Folks,
I love my glass LB ranger as I’ve always used him as a sniper or single target support in a zerg. Still, let’s be honest though, if a thief or warrior get in close and you make one mistake, it’s pretty much over. Course, that’s the way it should be if your dishing out that amount of DPS.
Anyways, my hope was to change that around a bit and bring down the massive burst for enough survival (armor) that I could take more of a beating and still get away. With that, can you all look over this build and let me know if it it’s worth changing out the DPS to buff the defense? It’s running with LB/GS now but I often change over to sword/axe too.
I tested a glass build a moment ago in PvP and it was a crap-load of fun. For those who are wondering, a crap-load is just slightly less than a butt-load. Just reference there…
Anyways, I’m a WvW play and will only do PvE when I’m crazy bored. In WvW, I tend to run solo or with 1-2 friends so I think the glass may be the best way for me to go.
@Eggyokeo,
I’ve been looking at the other combo’s too and think I may test them out some more. I just love the look of my GS (it’s the blue flame one) so that’s why it’s hard to part ways with it.
Hello folks!
I’ve been away from GW2 for awhile and recently came back with the desire to dust off my old ranger. She’s a typical GS/LB build with 6/5/3/0/0 as the setup. I’m trying to make a “sniper” but not be a total glass cannon at the same time. With that in mind, I was toying around with knights armor (P/T/P) and then mostly zerker everything else. The base armor was right around 2.6K and 59% crit with 2.8K power. The armor looks low which is why I was wondering if I should change out some of the zerker for more knights gear.
The other idea I have goes against the plan completely and that’s to just go all out zerker + assassin gear.
My old D/D was my favorite class in this game about a year ago but since then, he’s not see much play time in GW2. I’m trying to bring him back now that I have a full set of celestial gear but I’m not sure what runes I should put in those. I’ve heard that holebrak or travelers were the best to go with these days.
Any suggestions?
@ Brienson,
Thanks for the detailed answer to my question and for the link to your build. The one thing I have had to learn about the Necro class (unlike other classes that focus on conditions) is that your power builds are so much more versatile. You’ve given me a great deal to think about as I build my new toy.
Thanks!
In both builds, tanky armor is prudent.
So you would go with the normal Toughness, Precision, Condi or the Toughness Vitality, Condi?
Thanks Roe! Just wondering, are those “minionmancer” builds viable? I’ve seen a few on my thief and they are worse than a mesmer when trying to target the right enemy.
Folks, I could really use some help and was hoping you all might be able to give me some suggestions…
I have always been impressed with the Necro class but to be honest, I’ve never really played one much before so I don’t know a great deal about them. Well, other than the QQ I see on the forums. I’m really looking for a build that I can use to run with a zerg and provide as much AoE pressure as possible while not being a complete glass cannon. Also, I hear that Necro’s have terrible mobility and so I was wondering, is there a build that does what I’m hoping to find that also has some decent mobility, perhaps, even roaming capability?
Any help or links to some builds would be great!
Thanks.
I will leave this here.Thank me later

That’s a great video explaining the new changes to the class. I would think that everyone should see this.
I see Rangers rising like beacons of light while Thieves are the fallen angels of darkness.
Um, excuse me but I main a thief and I almost always where white. :p
It’s true, we have brought this curse upon ourselves! For years we have mocked them because of their low DPS and seemingly brainless pets but not anymore!
The RISE OF THE BEARBOW has come!!!
On a more serious note, this Machinima video by Flatypus Films is hysterically funny about the latest changes to Rangers. You all should get a good laugh from this one…
I play a celestial P/D hybrid and I find it works very well in roaming or small teams. It is pretty much useless in a zerg though.
Folks,
With the changes to the class, I have been playing around with the idea of changing from my glass cannon GS/H warrior over to a regen/tank concept that uses lots of healing + stuns. However, I’ve never played or built a warrior like this before and I’m not all that sure which way to go with it. Can you all please look at the build below and let me know what you think or where I should change things?
My goal is for regen/survivability first and damage second. I figured I would toss in enough zerker items just to keep a target honest.
Regen Tank <- CLICK HERE
Thanks!
Now… try it using a full condition build and the human racial elite. Oh, and for more fun, add in a full set of perplexity runes.
THAT is fun!
Of course, you can’t run from a zerg and LB rangers will eat you alive but other than that, not much will touch you.
This build is so far removed from the meta it’s not even worth starting a discussion here.
I can post a build with a little bit of video tomorrow, along with an explanation for a newbie wanting to make an impact as a Mesmer in a Zerg.
I would like to see this actually. I’ve not played my Mesmer much in months and would really like to see what they can do against another zerg these days.
Personally, I think you all really needed this buff. Rangers have been ignored for too long.
Folks, I play a celestial hybrid P/D thief and I ran into one of these rangers a few times last night. At first, he did “snipe” me down before I could do much to stop him. However, after I figured out what he was doing, he was amazingly easy to kill.
All I did was stealth up, close the distance, and burst him down. It’s an impressive build but like any so called “OP” build, they are easy targets if you know how to play against them.
After this latest path, a P/P thief has been completely ruined.
I use P/P for PvE and it’s still rather impressive. I use a set of celestial armor with traveler’s runes and then mostly zerker everything else. Combined with signet use, it’s a powerful DPS machine. Last night, my thief hit 51K on the unload chain. That was, of course, with around 17 stacks of might.
One point I should make is that I use the celestial armor for both my P/P and my P/D condi builds. I just change out the weapons and the accessories when I change builds.

I visited your website and was wondering, could you explain the RP story concept behind your guild? I didn’t see an “about us” section that went over this in detail.
I forgot to mention, I’m on TC
Hello folks!
As the title says, I’m currently looking for an active WvW/PvP guild to run with. I been playing GW2 since a few months after release and have 4 80’s that are all built for WvW/PvP. I’m generally online every evening between 8-10 EST (US) and have Mumble working.
My main goal is just to have an organized group to run with instead of always running solo. Most of my experience (and how my characters are built) centers around small group/havoc teams. I also don’t subscribe to the meta concept so all of my builds are fairly unique and designed to best support a small group.
If you have any questions or would like to chat, please reply here or catch me IG.
Thanks!
CURRENT 80’s:
Thief – P/D Celestial (New Main)
Ele – D/D Conditions
Warrior – GS/H Hybrid
Mesmer – PU Hybrid
Has anyone heard if there will be additional hairstyles released in the September patch? I’ve been somewhat out of things lately and haven’t kept up on the news as much as I should.
@FinalPatriot
Here’s what he posted in another thread:
Valk/zerker mix, HiS heal, infil signet + assassin’s signet + signet of shadows + BV.
Traits are:
DA: Mug/Dagger Training;
CS: Signets of Power, Signet Use, HK;
0
0
TR: ToTC
Thanks for taking the time to write that all out Mompen!
It was actually a human female using that “blue” armor set. Sorry, I can’t remember what it’s called atm.
If fought a GS + S/P shatter Mesmer today in WvW and she destroyed my innocent P/D thief 3 times in a row. This was probably the first time I’ve seen a shatter Mesmer running that weapon combo and to be honest, I was rather impressed. Typically, I don’t consider your class all that much of a threat on my Thief but from here on out, I’ll be much more cautious.
What made it worse was I ran into her again later and she was running tag-team with yet, another shatter Mesmer. I think at that point I just used the /cry emote and died.
By chance, can any of you link this shatter build I ran into?
DeceiverX,
That build site you linked is down right now. Can you post another link to your build? I’d really like to see your setup.
Thanks.
I kind of like the idea.
The only problem I see is that means I can only do an instant stomp once ever 12 players I kill…
Thanks Wanze! I really appreciate the help.
In the time I have been playing GW2, I have only found about 7 keys. Being as I don’t trust my luck to buy some, where would be a good place to possibly farm these keys?
Thanks!
For the last while I have been trying to come up with a build concept that would essentially allow me to use one set of ascended armor for both of my two primary builds. The first being a variant of the p/d condition build while the second (mainly WvW zergs & PvE) is my P/P burst build. The goal was to keep the main set of armor and then just change out the weapons, rings, accessories, etc. to get the desired effects. Using Aikijinx’s Life Absorb build as a template, I came up with the two builds listed below. Each of these builds are using gear I currently have though I am now working on the ascended celestial set. What I really like about the celestial build concept for WvW is that it provides enough direct damage that those anti-condi builds will have to think twice about fighting you. If desired, you can also change out sleight of hand for bewildering ambush to get the 5 stacks of confusion. I’ve found that many folks instantly burn their condi cleanse when they see confusion on them.
Anyways, as I’m still messing around with these, I’d love to see what you all think. My builds, as well as Aikijinx’s are listed below.
The video you posted shows of a different build than the one you posted – the build makes use of 6 pts in Acrobatics because you get swiftness, 2 stacks of might (one from trait, one from food) on dodge and regain some endurance via Feline Grace, and you gain initiative on weapon swap. You do have 6pts in Trickery because of Thrill of Crime, Bountiful Theft and Sleight of Hand. You also have 2pts in Deadly Arts for Mug.
TL;DR: the build being used in the video is 2 0 0 6 6 with III in Deadly Arts, II and XII in Acrobatics, and V, VII, XII in Trickery. Couldnt find out which other trait you used in Acrobatics.
Is that really the case? The build in the link is completely different than the one being used in the video?
Also, would this build work with ascended celestial armor/strength runes and zerker everything else?
Any thoughts on this concept? I’m just concerned about committing to making an ascended set unless I’m certain I’ll be able to stick with it.
Does anyone know of a site that shows the most common classes/builds used in tPvP? I have been thinking about making my warrior exclusively for tPvP but I’m not really sure what build to use. I also have a mesmer that I might drag back out of the closet.
Anyways, thanks for the help.
Hello folks!
This build is loosely based upon the celestial build that Yishis is currently using but before I go about crafting this set of armor (my first ascended set), I would like to know what you all think. My goal is to create 1 set of armor that I can have for my normal condition build but also have available for when I change over to my alternate D/D or the ever fun by useless P/P build. The intent was only to change the weapons and the rings/accessories.
With that as my goal, do you all think this will be effective?
(edited by FinalPatriot.8034)
What other rune options would work? Those runes of strength are really pricey right now.
Great video! Though I have never been much of a fan of playing a melee Ranger, it’s nice to see other people who excel at it.
I just play my thief naked to balance things out. /selfnerf
I have been asking in these forums for a ponytail for my human female thief for ages and though this isn’t exactly what I was hoping for, I’m satisfied none the less. As for the rest of the hairstyles, the Asura and Sylvari are great! The male Charr options are impressive as well. Not a fan of the Norn though.
I posted these in the other thread but figured I’d drop them here too: My new thief!
Does it move at all when you jump and run, or is it totally static?
It’s partially static. It doesn’t sway back and forth when you run all that much but about half of it will move up and down when you jump/fall. I wish it had a bit more animation but it’s still a much needed addition.
After years and years of pain and anguish, you all finally answered the most important request of your fans – A ponytail for my female human thief!
Thanks!

Can someone link an “80ish” build that uses S/P + P/P? I’m thinking about doing this for the new world content instead of my normal condi build.
I spoke to Ash a few days ago about his ban and he told me that he made some very critical comments about Anet and some issues with WvW season rewards. He still plays the game though as his YouTube channel was recently updated.
i took poison duration for more pressure, also balthazar runes are so good if you know to withdraw forward (also runes of grenth with chill)
Just skip the whole “withdraw forward” thing and use a costume brawl capable tonic to activate balthazar runes. If you are going to run an op build go all out.
Babylonian Assassin
OK, I don’t follow you here. What tonic are you talking about and how does this “activate” the runes?
And about the build being cheese, well, against a D/D Ele using diamond skin, condi thieves have a rough time.
Great video! I really like how that warrior runs past you right as you’re fighting the ranger.
Your best bet is dodging their CnD. A lot of condi thieves I find don’t use P/D 3 as muhc as they should. I simply dodge their CnD and it messes them all up.
This is the best way to kill one. I went up against a guy the other day that dodged me every time I tried to CnD. Needless to say, I got ownd, badly.
Howdy everyone!
While I play a hybrid condi build for my main there is sometimes the urge just to run around shooting everything in sight. In a group, it’s probably easy to just go with a build like this being as you’re fairly protected. Anyways, I tried to create a P/P build with enough survival skills so that you don’t get instantly crushed.
The base stats are -
2.8K armor
16K health
54% crit
1.8K power.
What do you all think?
- a ponytail for my human female thief.
As long as there are MMO’s, there will be people who will complain that one class or another is OP. It is sadly the nature of the genre. My theory is that every class, every build has a weakness that can be exploited. The trick is to find out what it is. As someone who also plays a P/D “stealth” thief, it’s pretty easy to kill me. A warrior friend of mine does it every time I see him… /sadface.
Oh, an engi friend of mines also owns me…
.. and this mesmer I know..
The thing about this class and someone who’s good at timing their stealth is that you can really troll a huge group of folks determined to kill the thief. It is sometimes sad how easy it is to draw half a zerg away. My goal isn’t to kill anyone in that group, just get them to waste time chasing me. In that case, my team wins.
(edited by FinalPatriot.8034)
That’s nothing… I got a BS on a bunny the other day for 124K. I’m sure it’s going to post here tomorrow about how thieves are OP… again.
