But isn’t the Necro considered the worst as a roaming class? I heard you have very limited mobility.
Also, thanks for the info on that build of yours. I know what to look out for now.
condition or power build?
also you say your a condi warrior as well, we can transfer whatever condi you put on us back you plus whatever we can stack.
That is pretty much what he did to me. I’m running a condition build with precision, toughness, condi and he pretty much just loaded me up with massive amounts of conditions. I’ve never died so fast in my life.
I’ll admit, I don’t know the first thing about your class but as a condition warrior with some fairly decent gear, I ran into a Neco today while roaming and he made me look like a complete fool! I know my class well enough that typically I don’t have too many problems with getting a complete thrashing by someone but this guy killed me in all of about 8 seconds. Really…
I never figured your class was all that impressive as a roaming class but the beating I took today was pretty darn humiliating! To be honest, I thought about rerolling my level 80 D/D ele into a Necro just to understand how I was able to be so completely defeated like that.
Are you all really that well skilled in WvW roaming?
0/10/0/30/30 WvW build http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=Vk;4BJVU015-NFZ0;9;59-TT;15;308A47A6V1;0N;0t_MTt_MT20kd1;2Fb-V0V80V1F2KZQ42uVI7330;9;9;9;9;9;9;0Tk3s
That’s the one I run with in an organised guild group, so as you start off I would reccomend starting with more P/V/T gear and gradually moving into that.
Thanks for posting this for me! Do you find this more effective than some of those condi builds that stack condi + healing?
Can one of ya’ll please show a link to the 0/10/0/30/30 build? I have a tanky D/D ele now that I never play but would like to find a way for her to do more damage w/o going into full zerker.
Thanks!
Why does everyone post essentially the meta s/s+lb build and try to claim they invented something new? It’s weird. You don’t see people posting Mace/Shield+GS builds acting like they just discovered the new world, but when it comes to this condition build people act like an angel appeared to them in the night and gave them some revealed wisdom.
Oh, I won’t take credit for this build at all! I’m still learning how to play this class and didn’t know it was the “meta” build for Conditions.
My warrior was always the rifle + GS and though the crits are fun, I hated it for roaming. This is been a ton of fun so far.
Well folks, as some of you know, I leveled up 4 characters to 80 and then pretty much quit the game. I recently came back to my Warrior which has been my favorite character even though I couldn’t find a way to make her a decent roamer. Anyways, I found this amazing S/S + LB condition build and thus far, it’s freaking amazing!
The main point is (like all condition builds) to simply stack the “DoTs” on the target and then watch them die. The nice trick with the warrior is that you’re still getting nice crit damage as well. Well, below is the build I’m using and found it to work rather well.
What do you all think of this?
Can you link your build please? That was a great video!
@FinalPatriot.8034
Do you remember which server this ele was from? (If it’s SoR – I can think of a few d/d ele players with said amount of skill… and most are still using 0/10/0/30/30).
Actually, she was from SoR! I wish I could have spoken to her about that spec. What is this version ur talking about because I was using the old “tank” spec and it wasn’t all that fun.
People say that this class/build is dead but I ran into a D/D ele today in WvW and she flat out destroyed me and 2 other players. This was on my Warrior, Thief and Mesmer. I was simply amazed on how skilled of a player she was.
After returning to GW2, I have been toying around with my original character and was wondering, does the following “tankish” build still work fairly well? I don’t have a lot of gold and so the gems are the best I’m able to get right now.
Can you please take look a this and tell me what you think?
I spend most of my time roaming and looking to cause trouble with blobs.
Thanks!
@Sceinna,
My main character (until recently) was a thief that I had been toying around with on the condition side. My largest problem was those blasted warriors and how quickly they could lock me down and kill me (which is why I rolled one). Anyways, how do you counter them and do you find this build effective against them? Is the lack of the SB ever a problem for you? Sorry for all the questions.
I love defending the flights of stairs just past water gate in Garrison. When I see a zerg stacking on the upper landing, I can’t stop myself from slotting Death from Above, Stomp, and Fear Me. Jump from the wall and watch the kittenroaches scatter.
You sir, get the awesome award for this! I actually lol’d when I read it.
I’ve never really given this build much thought or credit but considering what I saw in that video listed a few posts up, it’s pretty interesting. With the added bonus of getting most of the armor from karma, it could be a fun alternative to my normal zerker build.
I actually got myself feared off a cliff to my death. It was pretty darn funny because right before he got me, I was thinking, “crap, it would really suck if I got feared right now…”
Oh well, well played to the other guy.
Too squishy, should I change over to some more soldiers gear then? Those huge crits from the rifle have been pretty fun.
Let me first say that I’ve only been a level 80 now for a few days and so I’m going to initially assume that my problem is that I’m pretty much still a noob at my class. However, I’ve built my warrior as a full on zerker with a focus on the “sniper” side of the house using Rifle + GS with an Axe/Shield alternate.
My biggest problem so far in WvW are those darn Mesmers! If I can lock one down using bulls rush or something else, they die in seconds to 1k blades. Other than this, I tend to really struggle with them especially with those shatter builds. They just create so many clones that I have a hard time telling which one is the real Mesmer.
I don’t understand as when I played a Mesmer, Warriors would just eat me alive. Any suggestions on what I should be looking for?
Oh, my build and current gear is listed below:
I honestly had not really thought much about changing servers as from what I understand, TC is pretty much the main hub for RP these days and I’m not sure I’d like to walk away from them. I do apprecaite your response/invite here! I’ll go take a look at your website though and see what I think.
Thanks for responding!
I named my Norn Warrior, Alexandra Hawke. She’s the smallest build available as I try to RP that she’s only half-norn, half-human. I figured the name of “Hawke” would fit the Norn race while being ambiguous enough to still relate to her human side.
Who knows…
Hello folks!
I have recently returned to GW2 after being away for a good while and would really like to be part of a well organized WvW guild. I’m looking for a mature group of players that work well together, avoid drama, have a decent website, and can actually run a solid plan in WvW. If this sounds like your group, please send me a PM or post here?
For my background (briefly) -
I have played WoW for about 5 years, SWTOR, WAR, and several other MMO’s that all pretty much sucked. My focus has always been around PvP(WvW) and RP with a great deal of time leading such events. I currently have an 80 Thief, Mesmer, Ele, and a level 56 Warrior. This Warrior is what made me come back to GW2 as they are just so much fun to play!
If you would like to know more, please contact me anytime.
Thanks!
@Furajir,
Great video! It’s always nice to see more folks roaming around WvW than the normal zerg. On another note, I never attack Asura Warriors – they are just too darn cute…
Norn elite, go catch that warrior
Unless that warrior happens to be a Norn…
Oh wait! I play a Norn warrior…
Great video! I’m still learning to play the warrior but have never given much thought to using a mace instead of the axe. Looks like a great combo there with the GS.
Oh, that part where the thief killed you was priceless!
I played a D/D + P/P zerker thief as my main and warriors like you would just eat me alive. I could NEVER get away from them.
Here’s my warrior. If you’re on Sea of Sorrow, you can find me sitting in LA pretty often.
Vincent, your warrior looks amazing! What dye are you using and what rifle is that?
:) I appreciate a lot you like my movie !! When I see your reply I know why I do movie
This movie is what inspired me to start over and play as a warrior. I have a level 80 Ele, Thief, and Mesmer yet none have really been all that fun other than the roaming thief. Please keep making more of these!
Oh, I subscribed to your channel too.
Contiguous,
Do you recommend buying those exp boosters or just stick with normal food?
Hello everyone!
I’ve been away from the game for several months now and only started to come back a few days ago. Sadly enough, I really having to relearn the game again but I’m reminded now on why I believed GW2 is the best MMO I’ve ever played.
My question is that even though I have a level 80 thief, I would really like to try out the GS/Sniper Warrior for WvW. That just looks like a ton of fun! However, I really HATE leveling and was wondering, what are some good ways to level my character quickly so that I can start enjoying WvW again? I know crafting works well but I’ve heard that I should hold off on crafting too much until around level 30-40. Is leveling in WvW effective?
Any advice would be great!
This looks like so much fun to play! I have a level 39 Guardian that I’ve come to really dislike and am thinking about rerolling. Is this spec something I can use to level up with or should I go with something else to make leveling faster?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/Thiefsmer-Build-Video/first#post2802215
This is for P/P, Alot better than any P/D spec out there.
Thanks!
As the title says, I was wondering if you call could point me towards a solid condition build using P/D or something along those lines that is actually effective in WvW? I just came back to the game the other night and really don’t want to stick with my old D/D glass cannon.
Also, what sort of gear should I be using, full carrion?
Condi thief with venoms and a p/d into a p/p (Yes p/p loads out damage fast on top of your condis to get the extra burst to finish a guy if needed)
It’s sad but I’ve never really tried a condition thief before in WvW as I read awhile back that conditions were not all that effective. Unload is a ton of fun to mess with and being as I leveled up to 80 as a condition thief, I’d love to give it a shot. It sucks though because all my gear is centered on either zerker or valk for that “glass cannon” concept. What type of gear are you using and what build do you suggest?
30k hp, 3k toughness, soldier runes, shouts, dogged march, -40 con duration food, mobile strikes and you run inside enemy zerg laika big fat norn boss. You are probably last alive even if you push random buttons like i do.
I saw a video today of a warrior using GS + Rifle and he was pretty much killing people in a matter of moments. Granted he was using food and had some amazing great but it looked really fun and exciting to play. 19K kill shot? Um… wow!? I wish I had it in me to level another character though as I’d really like to try this some. I did get to play around with a warrior for a bit and liked ever moment of the class it’s just that another trip from 1-80 is costly and time consuming.
First, let me apologize for the forthcoming wall of text and give my thanks to those of you are willing to read through this and give me your guidance. I have been away from the game for several months now and only returned a few days ago. I always enjoyed GW2 but I never really settled on a class to play as. My end goal is to find a class that can be effective as a roamer (effective meaning that they can do decent damage while still being able to escape if necessary) and also being able to provide decent support/damage for the all so common zerg. Again, I apologize if any of the comments I make below are way off as I’ve forgotten much of how the game was in WvW.
After you read through my experience with these classes, can you please tell me where I’m wrong and give me some ideas on what I should try? Also, if you could please let me know what class best fits what I’m trying to do or where I can change things around to make it fit better that would be great! Thanks so much for your help!
THIEF (lvl 80 D/D + SB or P/P). I created this character because I got sick and tired of being completely destroyed by them and wanted to know how they worked. I typically go with D/D and then will change around the SB to pistols just because… well, they look good. I was using this character for roaming and while she does well at 1v1 or 1vX, I don’t feel like she has much of a place in the whole zerg concept as let’s face it, the SB is just boring as hell. Outside of small teams, I’m not sure what else I can do to help in WvW. /sadface.
ELEMENTALIST (lvl 80 D/D). This was my most favorite class to play because it was just so darn fast and never felt boring. With the changes made to RTL, it now feels slow and doesn’t really seem to be all that effective anymore. When I logged in last night, I only saw 1 D/D Ele and he really sucked! Is this spec just not viable anymore? When I played her, she was great at roaming and did a ton to help out the group. /another sadface.
MESMER (lvl 80 GS + S/S or S/P). Ok, I don’t have the gold to buy these new traveler armor upgrades so roaming in my Mesmer just flat out sucks! The GS is a ton of fun to play and appears to work great in a zerg but when I’m 1v1 or 1vX, I feel like I just die in seconds. I tried playing those shatter and condition builds and while they were very effective, they were so boring that I often found myself sniffing dry-erase markers just to stay entertained. It’s sad because she’s got some pretty amazing gear too. Perhaps I just suck as a DPS Mesmer? Oh, and this Mesmer is why I created a thief – they just eat me alive…
GUARDIAN (lvl 39 GS + Staff). I had planned to level this character as a full zerker Guardian but after leveling 3 characters to 80, I don’t think I could do it again. I’ve seen how well they help in zergs and have fought some insanely long battles against them while roaming. Sadly, it seems really easy to kite them and outside of a zerker build, I’ve never fought one on my Mesmer or Thief that would survive on it’s own. Still looks like a much needed class though.
I never really played any of the other classes beyond level 20 so I don’t know much about them to comment here. The Warrior looked pretty fun though but I’ve heard they don’t last long in WvW.
Anyways, these are my thoughts so far and if you could, please let me know what you think? I’d really like to get back into the game again but if I’m not having fun, then what’s the point? It’s too bad my old Ele just feels so gimpy now as I probably would never have left the game.

Hello everyone!
I’ve been away from GW2 now for about 3 months and only returned last night. When I left, I was running the common D/D + SB build for WvW with mostly zerker gear + a few orbs for the extra vitality. I have not kept up at all with gear/item changes and as such, I was wondering if you all could give me a few examples of what is currently the more effective builds? I always liked the D/D direct damage concept but had a ton of fun with a P/P build I was using as well. Seams like nobody expects a thief to use P/P and so they would often just eat the damage. Pretty sad really…
Anyways, what do you all suggest for roaming in WvW in both builds and gear?
Thanks!
$3000. For weapon skins. In a godkittened video game.
Ya know, maybe I’m just really poor, but seriously, what kind of person can afford to just blow off $3000 for something like this?
$3000 is nothing… I sold my kidney so I can get some legendary gear in the hopes that there might be yet, another “NERF TEEFS” thread…
I had a duel against a D/P thief the other night on my D/D thief and the OP is right on the money here! This duel went on for almost 10 minutes and was almost as boring as trying to fight a tanky guardian.
Most MMO’s out there has race changes by now, you should release the service aswell ArenaNet. I know for sure a lot of people want this feature badly, including me!
PS: Don’t tell me to make a new character to just change race, I’ve probably spent 500g overall on this character on soulbound items and have around 1000+ hours invested in just this character that I want to change race with.
This is pretty much how I feel as well and would be willing to pay for this option should it become available.
Yeah! The class that suppose to have the highest burst needs another burst nerf! BAKSTAB SO OP
Zacchary,
You promised NOT to post that shot of me ganking you! See, now all the folks too lazy to learn how to play/defeat a Thief are now here complaining about us!
I agree with the OP. I have tons of Karma that I never use because, well, there isn’t much of anything to actually use it on. Please make this possible?
Has anyone heard anything about Anet on this subject? It has been bouncing around the suggestion forums since the game began. I don’t understand why the wouldn’t make this option available as it could bring a good bit of money to them. I know I’d start playing another one of my characters if this was available.
I’m a big fan of D/D, it just feel right. I use D/P in sPvP though.
Can never let go of the pre cast CnD + Steal + BS combo <3
Can you explain this a bit for me? I’m not sure I follow…
The problem with D/P is the amount of initiative you burn in order to go steal and set up the BS. However, the defensive side is great if you’re close enough. With D/D, your CnD not only pulls you into stealth but does some really nice damage and causes vulnerability. It can be tricky out in the open though as w/o a close target, you have to use a secondary skill to gain stealth.
I personally have used both and I still can’t pick one to stick with.

Wish, can you talk more about this build/gear idea? I like the idea of the damage reduction and the lower cost for the runes (not going to pay 60+ gold for divinity). Does this work with the 10/30/30 build you listed earlier? Also, have you ever tried this with the D/P before?
I really like my current setup/build but the problem I have is a low base health and very little damage reduction. I know some argue that glass is the way to go but if they don’t get the drop on me, they’ve got no chance to survive.
Wish,
Do you have a video of this in action? I’d really like to see how you play it.
Overpowered mechanic? Play WoW or SWTOR where this type of class has real perma-stealth. The trick is just to learn how to use this against them.
I’d pay for this option as well. I have a Female Norn Mesmer that I’d like to make a male but just don’t like the looks of male Norn. This race change option would be nice to have.
The benefit is youd gain like 2% defense and 3% offense. For some people (like myself) being the most effective you can possibly be is important. If you’re not into that sort of thing and consider being less effective ok, this thread is not for you. But have you ever fought someone in WvW and just barely lost? like they had nothing left on their HP bar and you died? Have you ever tried to escape from a zerg and just barely took enough damage to get downed and then died? Well, min/maxing your gear would of let you win that fight and gotten away, and thats the whole purpose of this thread. To figure out the best possible gear set we could be using to increase our chances to win to the highest point we can.
Sorry if it came across that I was trying to argue a point or be sarcastic as that wasn’t my intent at all. I just like to know everything possible about my class and since I’ve only been a level 80 now for about 2 weeks, I’ve got a long way to go.
Considering I’m trying to save on the cost, are the beryl orbs effective for now or should I consider the scholar runes in order to save the coins? I have 4 exotic Soldier armor pieces with beryl orbs but I’ve never really used the set all that much.
For the weapons, do you think the Sigil of Air would be better than the Force for the main-hand weapon? I would think you would be missing out on a good bit of extra damage considering your crit%.
One last question… Do you run with a shortbow when you’re part of a zerg? I can see how Sword/Dagger is great for picking apart some classes though it would be really difficult for me to give up a ranged attack + mobility skill.
Even when I played D/D I never used DB. It just felt….useless.
I use it to get the gore off my daggers from killing condition thieves. It’s quite efficient and helps the environment by saving water.
gw1 armor skins
Agreed. Not sure why just about all medium armor sets have some sort of coat/cloak look to them. Not much variety…
Why not remove the thief completely? Problem solved
I agree. Why should others be expected to learn the skills of another class when it’s just simply easier to complain enough and have them removed? I mean, just because we leveled a thief in order to better understand how to defeat them doesn’t mean everyone else should…
/sigh
