k sorry just got too lazy to read the other comments. Just had a question though, when your roaming do you walk from one area to the next nearest location? I found roaming to me really frustrating until i started to recognize how to track enemy movements like when a sentry flips for example. When I do see a zerg because I use the backdoor passages, they tend to run by allowing me and usually 1-2 friends to simply target someone in the zergs backline and quick kill em:P Afterwards I really havent had an issue roaming well not yet.

I use to main an engineer i found myself getting zerged a lot so I switched to a theif but its actually sad how bad I am playing that class, i thought theives were all bout 2222spam apparently I couldnt even do that correctly and land a skill:S so I went crawling back to engineer except making sure to have stealth from elixir s toolbelt and a disengage being rocketboots.

I want damage i run zerker/knights n cavs trinkets scepter/dagger for blasts when it comes to roaming but I think many guilds/groups/commanders would prefer one using a staff, for its many supportive abilities mainly waterfields, and crowd control skills such as unsteady ground. I would pretty much stick to the backline while still having blasting staff, evasive arcana trait and whichever the traits are that remove a condition. Oh also access to stun break/stability. I do not think many commanders make use of aura sharing

rangers have access to a fair amount of evasions and 2 leaps if u have sword dagger as your second weapon set as well. If you are a crit heavy build, turn off autotargetting and keybind about face (to avoid backstabs) doesnt this suffice in being able to kill theives and mesmers?
When it comes to survival at least for my ranger when outnumbered I would utilize my long bow stealth ability on a target and deselect the target and use my leaps to high tail out of there.

@Phantom I feel like its far too difficult to organize groups in that kind of fashion. For starters to get the kind of reputation in which to be commander micromanaging other groups takes a lot of effort and a lot of time. Furthermore, a lot of players are really in world vs world for the karma, experience and loot hence will not be willing to volunteer to do extra tasks such as scouting or being a havoc squad.

You also mentioned having someone in a voice chat to steer the zerg in fights. I think thats unrealiable as well as unneccessary. .If your a deaf commander and you have a “quarterback” leading the charge wouldnt that person be in the awkward position of having to guess your movements? or would you tag off until the fight is over and have someone else take over until the fight is over?

At least to me successful open field zerg fights are pretty much the result of positioning and group composition (which should be decided even before you set out to raid). Although voice chat helps a lot with the positioning part, on the other hand when pug commanding you pretty much do not know the people you are raiding with how many of which classes you have, and half the group do not receive the neccessary boons such as stability due to not being in a party.

Really in a voice chat when pug commanding and a fight occurs I always hear the same pattern from commanders which actually got annoying:P The following: “on me on me-stack-k fire fields/empower-might-push through cc’s-statics/chills-and occasionally right after k their blob is too big pull out or my favourite we died cause of the pugs.”

None of these commands seem to be something you necessary even need to be in a voice chat for. Of course its a different story when micromanaging player skills/ cooldowns and everyone is on the same page not when half your group is on voice chat and the other half is not.

These are just my opinions, so yeah please correct me on any parts in which I am misunderstanding.

hey King xiuras.3615, I definitely agree with you although personally I’m a fan of voice chat in wvw, as it allows for quicker reaction times and coordinated fights. I think one possible solution for ArenaNet would be having access to preset commands this is something I utilize in Bf4.

Obviously that option is not available in gw2 at least not right now. However there is something you can do to compensate. I think this worked well for me, even though I run tagless so I hope its useful information to you as well.

Rather than being the primary commander, I seek to be a 2nd commander supporting the primary one. For example, one commander has the majority of the people in voice chat and what I would do is seek to form a secondary group in an empty borderlands. My approach is usually to take pressure of the primary commander by attacking the same server he/she does.

Basically will start by scouting all the borderlands by myself to determine which borderlands my servers forces are (may want to keep contact with that primary commander or someone following them), enemy numbers and lastly which structures are upgraded.
Then with like 1-2 friends and look to build momentum from there, mainly by attacking where I think the enemy will least likely be able or willing to reinforce. Secondly avoiding fights till you have a sufficient group to take on the enemy numbers.

There are several advantages you gain from being in this position.
1.You will still be able to command pugs because there is a high chance that the primary commander will have people stuck in que times therefore will come to join your group. As a result you can potentially have about 15-30 players following, though they will be inexperienced (probably upleveled) I feel like they will also be quite diligent rather than trolls.
2. As a 2nd supportive commander it becomes viable option to use /say thus avoiding message suppression.
3. It becomes easy to keep track of supply.
4. By starting small and commanding at consistent times and days it allows you to build a core group (people you can rely on even if they are inexperienced)
5. You pretty much do not get harrassed to get on voice chat
6. can form parties, if you find someone you dont recognize following just send em party invite or encourage people to be in parties

Disadvantages
1. you suddenly lose the ability to take out waypointed keeps for example unless you are able to judge the proper rush times (this becomes difficult without having a lot of people as the enemies can simply outnumber your forces to defend their territory, thus losing momentum)
2. Forced to switch maps often
3. still occasional harrassment but really not often at all
4. lack of good zerg fights you end up likely having to ninja structures rather than simply force your way through ( so pretty much have to avoid the enemy and have them find you rather than you finding them)
5. Can never pick up after another commander, I cannot really describe why it just has not seemed to work out well doing so and thats despite the fact that I run tagless.

I think overall by doing this, you will be able to lead pugs just like you wanted using say chat to avoid message suppression while simultaneously avoid being harrassed to be on voice chat. I think if anything I’ll be optimistic and say you may be able gain a reputation as being a commander of the pugs without using voice chat, thus gain a core group of players who will/can support you, regardless of the harassment.

I see that a lot of us are suffering with Error code: 7:11:3:191:101 just wanted to know how many of you are also getting another error code in addition to the one that constantly disconnects the client. When I log on and try to use the interface error there is an insane amount of lag for anything I try to do such as using contact list, lfg tool and guild list I then receive error code: 41:1000:9001:4137:101 which states that the client cant connect to the server although I’m still logged in.

Just wanted to add in, I tried playing another NCsoft game Aion Online for the past 2 days, and have received no severe lag spikes and no constant disconnects, so as of right now I’m convinced its not an issue on my end.

i had friends move to black gate just to finish wvw map completion… then they realized how populated it was and did not want to transfer back. One example is a friend who was new to world vs world had thought Maguuma’s performance during season 1 leagues was overall poor, because there was little to no commanders who ever tagged up. Roaming was a nightmare seeing as you can take one camp and a its a 30 man blob trying to track your roaming movements, while simultanously with another 30plus zerg in your home borderlands. Basically due to his lack of knowledge about world vs world he did not understand the mechanics of how to avoid zergs when roaming and furthermore could not understand at the time that the coverage of a server plays a huge factor.

1. as mentioned already rangers have sick em that does that already.
2. your longbow number 2 skill tracks players even when their in stealth
3. not to mention your longbow knock and your wolfs f2 skill can pull theives out of their shadow refuge
4. barrage can be used to aim at a theif when they shadow refuge and ur at range

oh wow I just seen this thread didnt realize so many others had it too, so now I know its not my end and can stop looking for google solutions:O There are two error codes one disconnects me everytime I try to make an action such as going to world vs world. Error code: 7:11:3:191:101 but theres also another one I get when I log on and try to use the interface error code: 41:1000:9001:4137:101, it states that the client cant connect to the server although I’m already on. This lag which my skills don’t activate, my guild, contact, lfg list and other commands don’t work.

For me this morning my game was fine. I think most people on my friends list are also fine but when I try to log in now the loading screen takes forever, it takes like 3mins before my chatbox displays a message from someone and as soon as i do something like try to take an asura gate my game crashes. Lastly, when i try to just log out my screen stayed black.
currently running laptop windows 7 64 bit operating system, 8gb of ram, Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz, graphics card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 460M 1.5 gb, in terms of computers i have no idea what any of this means, but my game was working fine just this morning and every other day, but since I do not know of anyone else with the issue I have no idea if its on my end or guild wars 2..

I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this, but in citadel of flame dungeon at least for path 1 which is all i ever do, one of the tasks is to:
Locate the Flame Legion Weapon
Find a way into Enkindling Chamber
Dodge the 5 rolling boulders while carrying a flame to light the 3 braziers on the end.
There is about a 15 second window to light all 3 braziers at the same time.

The problem here is that for a month now, I cannot see any of the 5 boulders but I still get killed by them. I do know I do know that I am not the only one who has this issue, but not everyone does so I was wondering if this is a game bug or if there is something I can do to fix this?

I have had this issue for months now, i use to be able to hear game sounds when i bought the game, then after amonth or so till now I have not been able to hear game sounds at all, (they are currently ondefault settings) however i can hear sounds on any other media app. I was wondering if there was anything I can do to fix this?

Answer to 1. Not concerned, we know which servers will rofl stomp us, i rather be in that position then be the one doing the stomping. Secondly, I will see it as an opportunity to do more roaming activities.

Answer to 2. Not concerned, i think que times will stay the way they are depending on the commander. Recognizable k train commanders will probably maintain the same numbers. Lag is also not a concern as I prefer to be in small groups or atleast organized groups avoiding those large scale k train zerg vs k trainzerg battles.

Answer to 3. Im indifferent to the implementation of leagues, It is great that we are given a schedule to know who we are going to fight and prepare in advance, I think that is one advantage to leagues. On the other hand, cannot expect to win, if the winner of leagues were determined differently then I would be excited about leagues. I am also dissappointed that we will not be able to fight fort aspenwood and stormbluffisle, as they are probably the servers with coverage and numbers similar to ours.

Answer to 4. I am also more or less indifferent to the bloodlust buff in general, pretty cool to have the capture points to fight for, in a smallgroup its usually our first target. I consider having 1 bloodlust stat as having an extra player. I guess I prefer the new stat changes over the old ones, either way the circumstance stands we will be rofl stomped in terms of numbers, coverage, points with or without it.

I just want to start by stating, this is the first time I played a game in which developers actually responded to player feedback and took initiatives such as this.
My three topics of interests for wvw are
1.incentives to defend structures
2. Wxp, masteries adjustments
3. match up rotations improvements
the following is simply the reasons for my topic selections:
reason for 1. selection-I understand that zergbattles and capturing territory is important and all but I feel like a lot of the times I simply run mindlessly, when a structure is under attack, I am often told let it flip its paper we can recap it for the wxp. It makes it even feel pointless to scout..

reason for 2. selection- This relates to my first reason as well, I dislike the handicap that wxp is soulbound, I do not even want to make new characters because if I make a new charc, I would then want to gain some necessary masteries which require me to follow pretty much mindlessly in a world vs world karma train in which the commander seeks to take easy objectives with little incentive to defend.

reason for 3. selection- Also relates to my other points, getting matched up with servers you cannot beat such as the super stacked t1 servers, really takes away incentive to compete to win and further encourages mindless karma, wxp trains.

Overall, my issues with world vs world relate to updates that have taken away the will of many players such as myself to take matchups seriously to try and win or even compete.

k I see a lot of complaints about warrior mobility, k I get it its true once a warrior decides they want out they are miles away, but then comes thieves they stealth and by the time they are unstealthed they are also miles away, I never really came across complaints about theif mobility just curious as to why? don’t forget the fact that there are still perma stealth builds that tease up to 15 players sometimes. I don’t want to shift the complaints to thieves but I couldn’t figure out why warrior mobility is so highly criticized and not thieves. On my engineer,Mesmer, and ranger I usually am able to escape zergs especially with the release of movement runes such as rune of the traveller. However, on all three classes if a warrior decides they want to hunt me down, they can catch up to me but then they are on cooldowns and ultimately I escape. However, if it is a theif I now have to play to make sure I am not hit by backstabs, which is not very realistic when you consider the fact that it may be more than one player chasing you(as if you stop or use about face keybind to avoid backstab other enemy players will close the distance to you). If warriors are overpowering, I do not think limiting their mobility is a necessary nerf.

I got through the que after about 30mins some other friends got through after an hour an 30mins my conclusion was that anet loved me:P anyway I think the long ques will b a temporary, it was reset night so it is very likely that many players joined in due to the excitement/hype of leagues as well as the achievements which can be done relatively quickly. And seriously wvw rank is not necessarily indicative of your wvw experience, lets say u take wvw seriously but you spend more time scouting then mindlessly following a commander tag, I’m pretty sure your rank wouldn’t be that high. On a last note, many players on the forums suggested reducing the wvw population cap to deal with lag, zergballs, and imbalanced server matchups, wouldn’t such an action lead to long que times just like what many of you are complaining now?

request denied! I like my healing turret the way it is thank u:) if theres a big bad boss out there u don’t have to put the turret beside the boss for it to aoe and destroy. I always thought turrets were about position placement and using cc and kiting abilities to keep bosses occupied. In other cases, turrets can serve as that sacrificial lamb. Not to mention they do amazing damage.

I very much like the pointsthat everyone has contributed so far just thought ill add my 2cents. I do not mind that the winner of a matchup can be determined by coverage. For example, my server seems to have a pretty competitive NA presence but very little oceanic, however the presence of one reputable commander increased our oceanic numbers significantly to the point in which we were able to hold on to upgraded structures. The issue I had in games I have played past was that crossserver events lasted for only a limited amount of time and then I would have to do pve. Ultimately this is why I rushed to buy gw2 as soon as I found out it lasted 24/7. I prefer tournament style matchups(variety) over static ones (same tiers). It is very exciting strategizing for reset night knowing you are getting new opponents, that excitement dissapears when your server cannot compete. Therefore although variety is a positive element it should not be prioritized if it means suffering blow out matches, players losing the will to compete and opportunistically letting enemies take structures then taking it back just for the wxp, karma. In other words, although I prefer the introduction of leagues, however I do not approve of servers being matched up against other servers that pretty much have a guaranteed victory without competition. For instance, any of the t1 servers Jadequarry, sanctum of rall, Blackgate should not be matched up against the other servers that cannot compete against them.

I have great optimism for SBI’s future, if there is anything SBI gained from this weeks amazing matchup it has to be a greater sense of community, most created from their common enemy being maguuma. Also they should have an accurate perspective of where they now stand. Best of luck to you guys in the upcoming leagues if you’re in gold league I definitely think you will pick up a lot from Tarnished Coast, as I think they closely resemble your server as they also depend on guild groups working together.

1. consistent wvw player base
2. server loyalty and pride
3. good and active guilds
This list of course is not exhaustive,
secondly, I was also curious on what you all have personally done to contribute to your servers success.

I’m not convinced that it is simply due to your servers overall consistency in winning, although the type of community and reputation

Thirdly, with the arrival of leagues, random matchups, and the ability to transfer to other servers for free or for a low cost, what are the factors keeping you in your server or motivating you to transfer from your server?

Increasing the effectiveness of certain seige weapons or increasing the effectiveness of structural upgrades such as reinforced gates and walls when servers are outnumbered. I would like to argue that if implemented this should not be applied to golems or rams due to flameram mastery being strong enough.

Unlike my last post I made sure my point was right at the beginning so anyone who doesn’t want to read the full thing simply read the first sentence:) The following will simply involve my reasoning behind this suggestion, feel free to criticize it as much as possible!!

My reasoning for suggesting this: in my experience, I receive the outnumbered buff while roaming in enemy borderlands usually after taking one high priority target, a large enemy force responds to defend and locate those who decided to initiate the attack as such my roaming group will stick to small targets and try to catch the enemyout of position. The second scenario in which I’m usually outmanned is trying to defend structures against a huge force that has control of the majority of the borderlands supply and orbs and therefore decide to go on a relentless offensive assault in which you cannot always spare the manpower to make an effective counter attack or even man all the seige. A lot of the times, the server that severely outnumbers the other can initiate double pronged attacks forcing the outmanned to alamo one of them or reduce man power further by having scouts in other high priority structures. I don’t want to go any further so ill be looking forward to your responses.

To any1 else who checks out this thread, these guys r legit! I’m impressed with your consistency in how many people you field, how often you raid, and how often you emerge victorious without any1 from your side downed.

@keiel, I understand your point, but there is one thing you misunderstood you stated “southern scout shouldn’t be alerting people to northern areas.” I want to clarify that this all happened on the northwest side of the borderlands (godslore,ascension bay-northgate,woodhaven tower). I should have added that along with my long wall of text:P Not to mention the run from citadel to woodhaven is short but still was too late.

binding roots is definitely not op, you are able to kill the roots itself, it literally takes my bunker build 2 auto attack hits to destroy the vines, and players get out of the roots on using stealth at least for my engineer it does.

Warrior mace/warhorn (recommended) or mace/sheild and greatsword, you can outrun whatever zerg out there so long as you turn of auto target make sure you have your leaps bulls charge and stability is a must have. I see guardians able to tank 5 players but do no damage and never can outrun a group chasing them. Whereas a warrior can potentially kill a player before they even react quite easily with mace stuns, and still outrun enemy zergs.

So today, I was keeping scouting the movement of an enemy guild approximately of twenty people, they skipped the sentry point towards godslore, and quickly captured the camp, as I continued to scout them i guessed that their next target would be the northern gate of ascension bay, the one towards the veteran worm. I quickly waypointed and checked that gate to find that they were no where in sight.

I also they have not even killed the veteran worm, therefore I guessed their target must have been our fully fortified walls/reinforced doors woodhaven tower. I waypointed to citadel and then I noticed the gate was below 50percent dropping fast with the use of 2 or 3 superior rams, without the players dpsing the gate.

At this point, the tower did not even show it was contested, I did relay the information on team/map chat instantaneously and we had responded right away. The problem was at this point the gate was already down by the time the tower even showed it was contested. The numbers we had at the time was not enough to hold them at the lords room. This paragraph is quite lengthy, but all this occurred within 30s before the tower even contested.

To make clear my point, the reinforced gate was already down before players were even alert that the tower was contested. Keep in mind that when I scouted them the reinforced gate was below 50percent and players online at the time had responded right away. The little time it took me to observe the situation (confirming the numbers, whats seige is being used, what defenses wehad in the tower, how much supply we have in the tower) —-takes like 10seconds tops and relay it to my teammates was all the time it took for the enemy player to destroy the gate.

To me this is definitely an issue, it really is hard to see the point in even upgrading structures knowing that they can be taken so easily. The gates are pretty much equivalent to being paper and not upgraded at all, considering that 2 or 3 superiors is enough to take down the gate before players are even aware. It takes away what I find to be a very rewarding aspect of world vs world (being able to defend while outnumbered, having enough time to respond to enemy attacks).

As it is currently, world vs world just does not seem very rewarding, it can potentially take an hour to upgrade fully upgrade structures only to lose it before you are aware it even happened seems a bit ridiculous to me. There are several ways to resolve this: changing the third ability of ram mastery, changing the ability of seige masteries that increase damage, increasing the effectiveness of reinforced doors or introducing fortified doors are examples. I posted this cause I wanted to see the opinions that other people had and if they have faced similar situations.

In all honesty, I’m pretty much losing interest in playing world vs world for the ppt(points per tick) or even for the competition to win,I mean it is one thing for a structure that is paper/unupgraded but once you spend an hour getting the upgrades then lose it in such a quick timeframe (before you have the ability to even react) it kind of takes away the point.

I dont understand the complaints about engineer downstate well i do get ours are not exactly the better among the other classes but the fact is once you are downed you are pretty much already finished and one stomp away. On one note there are times that an ele has vapor formed to safety because they died right beside a structure that belongs to their server or a warrior rallies after popping vengeance, but realluy how viable are those skills for even those classes. When a warrior pops veagance I simply make sure to get out of their range and let them die, and in the open field the ele can vapor form you know its coming just fake stomp force them to use their vapor form then chase in for the real stomp. Usually its guaranteed with elixir s or toss elixir s. When I die on engineer its simply my que to get a drink of water or something even if our down state was improved it will be just like the other classes once you are downed you are pretty much dead anyway unless you hav a group or allies with a strategy on our to win the rally game such as battlestandard, illusionof life or stealth rezzes from mesmer, theif or engineer. I just dont see how it is relevant to fix the downstate. In fact, I dont want to see another class with another annoying down state.

well i read a lot of the replies to this question and I decided to state the obvious in case it wasnt clear to you from the posts above avoid ranger for pvp, pve, wvw and any magical events to come in the near future. U will hear people saying theives are bad at pve, which is entirely false, theives are just as much as viable as other classes in pve and definitely prefferable to a ranger. If a theif goes full berserker then wonders why they get their kitten kicked to strong mobs in pve then thats the reason they added no toughness and probably expected to 22222 spam their way with heartseeker. If you are willing to consider sword/dagger sword/pistol even pistol pistol you wil find theives very enjoyable for pve. My main is a engineer and mesmer and considering retiring engineer for mesmer , but no doubt probably what u will love most about engineer is their versatility they can do a bit of everything when I run pve, wvw i tend to have a set group composition for example warrior for dps, ele for combofields/waterfield especially, mesmer for just that utility options such as mass invisibility. U will notice that an engineer can easily fill any of these roles in that group composition. I definitely recommend engineer for pve, wvw, pvp over the other two. But if there is one thing you should take away from this post is that avoid ranger!!! incase u didnt see it the first 2 times AVOID RANGER!

My issue is that I cannot play to win, players seem to be overly aggressive on earning their karma, world xp. When i first played wvw, I used it as a means to level my charc to 80 now that I am 80 I want to contribute to my server in achieving victory or at least competing that includes playing the defense game. But when the score is an absolute blow out, there is no motivation but let the winning server cap what they want, then just take it back. I personally enjoyed defense, upgrading structures to hold what you spent resources to capture and maintain. Probably the greatest demotivation currently is how it could take an hour to upgrade keeps/towers only to find at one point that an enemy server took less than a minute to break down reinforced gates and now are inside lords room with 2x ur numbers before the system displays that the upgraded structure you wished to defend is contested:(
