A game of "rate the classes"...

Floplag.4032

Now that we have had a little time to mess around post HoT im curious to see how the community would rate the classes PvP wise?

I don’t want this to degrade into a this class is OP discussion, just curious what people feel are good, bad or ugly.

I’ve been mostly rolling with my Ranger, and doing fairly well of late in the “pre-season” and plan to stick with it even though i’m told that’s a bad idea, but i’m stubborn and like a challenge.

So…. rate em up peeps, whats viable, what isnt… you know the drill.

Honestly this game is on the lighter side CC wise in PvP. After playing WoW and SWTOR this is a welcome respite from the constant CC wars.

my 2 cents, which likely isnt worth that much

Exactly, spending more time trying to find the fight, than being in the fight, is a very bad precedent.
The BL maps are FAR too large and add in multiple levels and its just the worst kind of grind.

WvW is at its core a PvP game mode…. i dont think anyone finds the real fun in WvW is random back capping or running around killing guards, maybe it is to some and that fine but for me that has zero appeal and id rather PvE and do meta events than that.

The most fun ive had in this is when we have large scale fights that involve tactics, strategy, cooperation, and all kinds of stuff that have nothing whatever to do with the maps themselves or the NPCs on them.

Ive never liked the EOTM map as they are far to complicated to get to the fights half the time trying to puzzle jump my way to the objectives or figure out which level of the maze they are on.. i just want to get to the fights.

For me the best thing they could do is give us a system that fosters those larges fights.
This would include:
Smaller BLs with high value objectives. encourage quick hit and run skirmishes to raw people away or make them make hard decisions but not make them a central focus.
Larger central maps that arent like playing Mario brothers where the primary objectives are that encourages actual fights, not PvD and invincible lords.

The goals should be fighting other squads… not NPCs, not doors, get the PvE out of the PvP modes and lets get down to fights that we cant get elsewhere.

true enough, i hate the whole melee centric nature of this game, its one thing i dont like. we dont all like melee

ive seen a lot of posts lately with Druid specs, all of them seem to be GS or other melee weapon, considering the range on the staff doesnt longbow make more sense?
Has anyone done any theorycrafting on the builds for that combination or are we just assuming longbow = bad?

Drones and rifles... disappointed

This seems to be an issue with many of the elites, very little synergy with existing or other specs.
i wish this had been considered more so that we could integrate more of the new features without being forced to change everything else if we didn’t want to.
I have no interest in the hammer personally anymore than im likely to dump the staff on my ele/necro

Drones and rifles... disappointed

It seems the drones were designed only with hammer in mind. Most of them have a range that is far less than the rifles can hit from forcing us to move closer if we wish to use any of them and there seemed to be very little synergy with rifle builds.
am i missing something on this? I dont really care for melee play so… meh
Thanks

But there will always be complaints unless they hit the magic area where everyone is relatively equal in its own way, and I’ve never seen any game achieve that goal.

Players always complain, we are an ungrateful group if we don’t get our way or have it how we want it for the most part.

There are 2 kinds of complaints, the “i got nerfed” or “they got buffed and are stronger now against me”. In this case we are seeing both. So if EVERYONE is complaining, then it means that either they mostly got it right, or completely buggared it and i don’t think the latter is the case.

How is it more gamebreaking than having 10-25 might stacks, perma invis, excessive dodge, or other such issues?
If this one is so bad, how are others so ok?

Look i agree its overkill and obviously not working as intended, but the uproar was funny in the face of other things that are accepted as fine. If this needs a nerf then don’t those too?

I think perhaps some of you missed my point or i might not have made it clear enough…

The point what that when you see complaining from both sides such as the meta classes complaining about Rangers and others complaining that some things were not nerfed enough, then the odds are good they got it right in general.

So your experience tells you that when people say something sucks then it is infact amazing? interesting experiences you have!

Well, lets see…. “sucks” is objective. You think it sucks, others including myself don’t. The point is that when the reality is in the middle then they probably did it right.

I personally do not think this sucks, i think it made a lot of sense, too many things were very obviously OP and others significantly under powered or unwelcome in groups.

Did they perhaps overtune a couple things, maybe, time will tell. I think its a little silly to be judging rangers on a possible gimmick build but thats me. Was the nerf to Eles and Mesmers 100% required, common sense answers that one.

So please tell me what “sucks” in this patch in a manner that isnt crying about not having easy mode kills anymore?

Do you even read what people write before you reply off on some rant?

Do you? the intent of his post seemed pretty clear. As was my reply. I even gave him a chance to clarify the “sucks” part.
Please enlighten me as to what i supposedly missed?

I’ll take that as a no

As will i then in your case, have a nice day

LOL…. new record in nerf intentions, on noes cant have rangers be relevant.
I agree that it clearly isnt working as intended but this has to be a new record in fix intent when others have had similar advantages for long periods of time (cough current meta cough)

Right or worn on your point, likely right, the funny part is that im seeing NOONE complain about that issue right now after the patch and a lot of tears about Rangers coming out of the cellar.

In my years of playing these games I’ve found that the more people complaining about a patch or balance adjustment usually means it was pretty spot on.

Let’s be real, we have a few classes that have been silly OP, and other that have been completely unwelcome in virtually all group content.

With this patch the OP were tuned down, some of the unwelcome were brought up, at the end of it it seems to me the gap is far less than it was, isn’t that the goal?

The best gameplay comes when the gap between meta and the basement is as small as possible, and this game badly needed some adjustment in that regard.

WvW roles for new profession specs...

Floplag.4032

This may have been covered in the past as each were released and i may not have found it in my searched, but I’m curious what roles some of you see for the new elite specs…
For example, will Gaurdians change much or will Dragonhunters be persona non grata?
Will Engis be welcome? if so only as melee with hammers?
Druids?
Crono… etc….
Thoughts?
Some seem obvious but as im still learning i thought id see what the experts think
Thanks

Tier/World for WvW in PST US

in WvW

Floplag.4032

I’m wondering about what worlds/tiers are more active in the PST US time zone.

I’m a relatively new player still and i didn’t know how the tiers worked when I first started playing. I ended up in Tier 4 and the world is good, nothing against it as it has some great play at times, but most of it seems to be earlier in the day for me.

We have some good players and such but many are Euro or East Coast and by the time i hit my prime gaming time there isn’t much left at least on my world as there is often one or no tags and the raids are winding down more than building up. Maybe its my world as some of the others in my tier seems to be more active later than my own, idk.

I was also looking to move up to T3 but I am worried there that its mostly GvG dominated and there wont be much WvW still and it wont be worth the cost to transfer. I like GvG but most of those guilds are well established and not really looking for noobs to take part in the 15 mans.

Anyway, any advice appreciated as im kinda stuck in limbo right now.

Thanks

Range, support, and competitive burst?

in PvP

Posted by: Floplag.4032

Floplag.4032

Im still learning so forgive what might be obvious to the vets.

OK, let me start off by saying that im not really a melee guy for various reasons. Ive been messing around with various classes and specs that appealed to me on the surface since joining a few weeks back but most of them are not cookie cutter or recognized top specs due to the reason above. I understand why melee range matters more, boon sharing etc… but its really just not my thing. I’m loving the game, but hate how its so melee centric, id love to see them extend the range of these things within parties but that’s another debate.

I’ve tried things such as staff ele for example and a couple others. Only meta class ive been running is a longbow ranger but they seem easily shut down by the powers that be so to speak. I have an ele thats almost 80 that i play mostly as staff, same with mesmer.

Most of the ones that appeal to me seem to be considered more of a “support” role, which is fine i guess in WvW but the minute I jump in sPVP or 1v1 in WvW im simply not seemingly effective enough, just not enough burst. Im still new so i not sure if its something im doing wrong, or if its literally just that the class isnt strong enough.

I know support/util roles arent supposed to be all that in a 1v1, but still, theres a difference between not being top dog and not being effective or viable at all.

I guess what im trying to get at is a better understand and perhaps suggestions about what classes that are more ranged in nature, have good utility, but can still actually be competitive in a spvp or 1v1… if there is s such a thing? If so links to builds would be great.

I feel like im missing something that should be obvious, but as a noob it isnt so i thought id put this out there and get some feedback. Is it really that support type classes are that weak or is it me?

Responses appreciated, thanks

ele/mes/rgr.. pros/cons in pvp?

I’m new to GW2, though i played GW1, recently have been playing SWTOR and WoW an just came back… and I’m having some issues deciding which class to push to end game first so i thought id get some opinions on the strengths and weaknesses of them and what to expect at end game.

I have now brought up an ele, a ranger, and a mes to about lvl 30, and i was hoping to get some pros/cons from the perspective on PVP and some PVE as well, though mainly i PVP a lot at end game.

I’m not really a FOTM/OP class player, i like to have some challenge, but be able to be effective and/or competitive.

Opinions appreciated.
