Didn’t Shadelang or someone get to the top 20 or so not using staff? Staff is definitely amazing in PvP, but it’s not your only option.

Birds at least almost made some sense back when boons were fairly rare. If you don’t have perma swiftness or a movement trait on any profession these days you’re a total noob.
Of course, you can do anything you want and still be at least reasonably effective in any mode.
Condi rangers are meta in PvE, LB rangers/druids are excellent in PvP and WvW, and there are a few dozen other builds for any mode that don’t use staff. Staff is sort of garbage for PvE unless you’re doing raids, even.
Staff is a great weapon for healing and building AF, so if you need those things, you take staff.
Hey man still not trying to be mean to you. And the guy you’re recommending this build to has argued vehemently on these forums that condi druid is unviable in WvW roaming.
Condi druid lacks in 1 area, pick one. You can do reasonable damage and lack mobility, or you can have mobility and lack reasonable damage. You probly shouldn’t solo roam on condi druid, but it’s totally fine if you have friends.
I’m not trying to rag on you, that’s just not a build you should even casually recommend; it’s not viable.
I’m sure a many of us can come up with a better condi build than that, it’s just totally awful.

- I tweaked your build a little bit to cover up/eliminate some of the weaker points:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQNAnYWjEqQLLWyC2sAVLWMEsm3VwqFwEAGdNA4s6XNtWi0PD-TVSFQBvU53K1EEJ1fG4TAYd7P0O9AwUJYCOBAA4QAEAABYmlZduzA/8n/8n/8n9zf+zf+zfWKgMXpB-w
You seem like you have some ranger knowledge, shadowpass, but this build is just complete and utter crap. I think you’re out of your expertise on this one. Have you actually played it? Even a necro could walk away from you in open field.
These videos always scare me since you know some complete moron is going to scream about how this is OP.
You’re required to have jump mushrooms and basic gliding masteries to complete some of the HoT personal story. I think this is just a warning to get you to train those masteries before you get to those story steps.
I also die a lot in larger mops but I feel that my solution to that problem is to use the appropriate skills to keep them in bay (or attack them) and use them FAST. Throw everything at them as soon as I approach the enemy. Have a good rotation and know it very well. To really, really know which skill does what. And to be FAST to avoid attacks.
A bad player in glass gear is tomorrow’s elite player. Any player in tanky gear is next year’s player in tanky gear…
Kit Harington swore up and down on a hundred talk shows he wasn’t doing the show anymore. Sometimes people just can’t (or don’t want to) talk about their roles.
However, if you mean “Heart of Maguuma”, as in the four Heart of Thorns (HoT) maps, then there’s no solution. Sadly, those areas are just too overpowering. ANet made some minor changes to correct this problem, but nowhere near enough. So, you have to work on perfecting your characters instead:
This passive aggressive complaining about anet is not useful. If you don’t have the experience in the game to offer advice, don’t give it. I have absolutely no trouble surviving in full glass on all 9 professions in HoT, as do tens of thousands of other players. Furthermore, if the OP (or you) wants, we can explain how to do it.
SotW is pretty mediocre. I don’t really mind it because it does a little bit of everything which makes it useful for a variety of builds, like if you need AF.
The other two signets are awesome. I’m constantly terrified they’re going to nerf SoR actually. Although bad PvPers on other professions tend to view SoS as a problem and not realize how effective SoR actually is, since it’s less visible.
Are you deadset on using a condi ele?
You’ve got a couple pretty standard choices. Obviously full berserker is the most optimal, especially if you use staff. You can obliterate just about any sized group doing that, and if you’re not comfortable with your own skills you can just as easily use it at long range. Glass gear actually makes it easier to survive in PvE because you kill things so quickly. You’d probably find the same thing with viper’s gear.
Another fairly common option would be celestial gear, or some sort of mix n’ match that accomplishes a similar stat spread. Cele eles dominated PvP for years as one of the toughest tanks in the game, yet still do reasonable damage.
You might try full glass for open world and maybe cele for new living world or expacs and so on, where you’re not quite sure what to expect.
Some people do that for newbies, were you asking for help in map chat or something? Either way, pretty weird for them to not send a note like “welcome to gw2” or something with it.
You don’t need to finish ALL the achievements to get the skin, just 20 of them.
I don’t have a source, but they’ve said it a bunch of times here and there. Probably official forums since I don’t like reddit.
Turret engi is a good way to make the game unbearably annoying, yes.
To have any sort of challenge you’re going to need to aggro every single enemy in sight and not using healing or dodging.
Using only equipment you find won’t make the game harder, it will make it more annoying. You’re not going to die in the open world. It just takes an ungodly long time to kill things.
Wooden Potatoes did a challenge where he wasn’t allowed to ever dodge, but I think that become a bit of a joke eventually since open world enemies hit so weakly. I’m not certain since I don’t particularly watch his stuff.
The devs have said that they have no plan to ever remove current events.
Yes I would love to know of a decent condition build too please, if there is anything viable?
The old s/t a/d build is absolutely viable. The only problem is mobility. AF generation is a piece of cake.
SB is pretty good these days too. I even went so far as to make an ascended short bow. :O
I think he means seed of life and have it pop after you’ve left CA.
i love this thread shadowpass!
Any advise for a condi build for wvw (it doesn’t need to be full condi) roaming with a decent AF generation?
??? You’ve spent years of your life roaring about how condi is garbage in WvW roaming.
1. What do you think are the priority teamfight focus targets? Any conditionals, like a DH that just blew his RF? Necro with low Shroud? Power Rev? Peel the Thief spiking your team? When would you target the Engi/Ele/Druid?
That’s the beauty of LB, you get to watch people from range and see who’s just used their heal or whatever and then hit them with CC and reasonable RF+pet burst. Call that target if you didn’t miss something and they’re going to die.
Only one I would pretty much never target is engi. They’er too way too hard to kill versus what they contribute. If their auto elixir pops then ya, hit them and get them out of the way.
My point of view anyway.
Get a grip people. Even as a roamer you’re not going to do zero things for 10 minutes. Go take a camp before you poop.
Dragonhunter. It’s not good at high levels, but it will get you back into the swing of things.
It might even be detrimental to your skill since it’s so easy to play, so if you want something a little more involved you might try any of the other professions. They’re
all fairly viable these days. Thief is highest skill cap/floor.
About face is one of the most important keybinds for every profession. I use X for it.
If you can’t find room for it, don’t forget you can use key combos like alt-x or whatever.
Thanks for your reply. Maybe I need to bind a few weapon skills on my mouse. I already have a somewhat decent bind, but I still can’t combo every weapon skill with it.
I made room by putting my utilities on alt or control of shift key combos. I don’t feel like it slows me down any because my little/ring finger or even thumb are often not doing much.
If I had a strong motivation like if I was paid for ESL or something, I’d probably relearn with ‘wasd’ moved over to ‘esdf’. Everything works as is, so there is no need for me to do that.
Don’t put sensitive keys on multi-key combos though. I’m not sure how to explain it, but you get less finesse with multi key combs. The timing can be off like 1/10th of a second or something and it’s awkward. So save it for skills like SotP where timing doesn’t matter.
I parked my character there and checked it out every now and then, it didn’t take long at all, the cathedral is going to be contested anytime a new map is made or on off hours when no one does the event.
You can also do it after a patch because your map is guaranteed to be new.

That is to say, I’m not great at dueling. However, reading this I’ll probably give it a try – I do like the shotgunning playstyle.
It’s presumptuous to say you’d win 100% of the time, but I’d win 100% of the time against this build. Traps are not good, its just a flawed concept. If anyone can duel me on trap ranger and win I’ll cut the skin off my entire body and mail it to them.
The one thing you can do with traps is play pretend DH and use them on mid, but that’s not a great idea with druid. You’ll kill people but die too easily.
One thing a lot of newbies don’t know is that the necro deathshroud gets a 50% damage reduction, so you have like… a LOT of health.
Not in a reasonable amount of time, no. We’re talking unreasonable amounts of time! Nearly everything in druid is an unreasonable amount of time.
I’m only skimming this thread but IMO its rarely ever NOT appropriate to use staff 2 on someone other than like a mesmer or necro. If you’re fighting a thief or warrior, put a dang autoheal bot on them. You have what, a staff auto to lose? Oh lord forbid you lose 400 damage@!!
I’ve beat many a staff + s/d druid using staff + lb using staff 2, and that’s a fight I’m supposed to lose.
You’re going have to be a bit more specific, but it’s decent in all 3 modes.
Are you working on HoT story and maps? If so GS is great for that.
Believe it or not, the best rangers who imo are even better mechanically than ESL players do not stream.
Shadowpass is really good, as well as Fluffball, or even Sevans.
I do alright, but no where near the best of the best though. I’m too elderly and decrepit to process the information that some of the younger guys on this forum do. Those boon and condi icons are tiny.
I don’t know if he still plays, but the best I’ve dueled against was ArrowSlanger. He also won the NA side of the ranger forum dueling competition I organized, beating even Euratien 3/3 if I remember right.
Glad gets some kitten; dude is competent and has never claimed to be good. He’s no where near top tier in PvP, I’d guess he’s about silver or gold rank without having seen his stream in a while. He’s not incompetent though and is a pretty solid roamer. Waay better at duels than PvP.
ROM, I’ve said this before, dude had the reflexes of a mongoose. I’ve watched a fair amount of pro leaguers and various other footage and NO ONE has reflexes like ROM. He’s faster wasted than I am sober. I’ve sparred with professional boxers that were slower than ROM.
I feel like everyone is forgetting that the first person to get the backpiece is the ONLY PERSON TO EVER GET IT.
This is a Black Friday sort of situation. Get it first or you ain’t never getting that backpiece.
None of the really top tier guys stream druid — and as a die hard ranger fan — I think it’s in large part because it’s not interesting to watch. I mean someone having awesome pet control is not exactly glamorous like hitting that perfect CR on a chrono.
Being good at druid is mostly about hitting your dodges and restraining yourself from using CA like a lunatic.
Edit: On the other hand there are a bunch of WvW druid streamers and people that post YT videos. WvW is so much more open as to what you can run. Melee druid is never boring.
It’s basically why I don’t stream regularly. I just feel like there is no demand in watching a druid play PvP, so whenever I could stream I decide not to because it’s too intricate and not flashy enough for twitch
If people want they can check the past broadcasts on my twitch or YouTube and if there actually is a demand for this sort of thing I can definitely stream more regularly
Yup, just flipped through your past videos, you’re playing druid properly by camping staff and keeping points neuted.
Maybe next expac we’ll get something flashy with teleports and time manipulation.
But like other lists it’s not for just “one” person. However, you could do one for “top commanders” but would be much more subjective.
There have been a kittenton of threads about this over the years and it always comes down to “NO ONE HAS HEARD OF YOUR COMMANDER OUTSIDE OF THE LIKE 50 PEOPLE THAT FOLLOW HIM IN HIS TIMEZONE AND POSSIBLY ABOUT 6 ENEMIES THAT READ THE UNOFFICIAL WVW FORUMS.”
No one knows enemy players on enemy servers because you can’t see their names, end of discussion.
Ele and ranger are support builds in PvP. What you’d need is a high mobility damage character, something like mesmer, revenant, or thief. I would strongly lean towards thief if the person playing it is pretty good with video games, thief can be difficult to master in PvP.
Dungeons are so easy that it’s irrelevant.

I believe they only drop from guards, so if you’re only fighting people and not taking objectives, you won’t get any. Yesterday I have a small stack of about 15 or so from a couple hours of play time.
I assume someone mentioned Barry?
LB is godly in support. I’m guessing he’s talking about matches where it’s a bunch of ahhwkw4rd (kitten filter picking up something weird) match ups like scrappers. Your thief delays the cap and then you hit the scrapper at the exactly wrong time with LB. So satisfying to kill those stupid things.
I was just referencing Glad because he plays ludicrously tanky builds and barely pays attention to what he’s doing.
Any newbie can slap on some dire armor and go fight a bunch of people at the same time.
I assume they’re just a way to give WvW players more income, since that’s always been a big complaint.
These things drop like candy, and 30 silver each time really adds up.
Unfortunately no one can be told what WvW is. You have to see it for yourself.
If you need an example, Gladomer streams daily on things like trailblazer necro or druid. He mostly talks to viewers while he 1v6s.
A lot of you are acting like you’ve never run into anyone using dire/apothecary/settler etc armor before. Does not matter what the build is, does not matter what the profession is, does not matter what the daily fish special at the local seafood bar is. You won’t be doing much damage to them, they’re going to outlast you. Eventually you’ll die or you’ll meander off in some random direction.
