I’m not as experienced with other professions as much as ranger, but I’m pretty sure rangers have way more condi removal than any other profession. SotF, EB and SoR are the most popular, but there are several other options. And almost all of them can be overlapped if you really needed it, which you don’t.

Also don’t forget about those glorious new sigils.

This has nothing to do with rangers, the dungeon meta builds are the ones with the highest damage.

Other professions that have variable dungeon builds do so because they overlap. Warrior banners for example. But all professions have a best ‘non-overlap’ build.

I might also point out that knowing dungeon paths will allow you to vary things up for the best possible degree of efficiency. Swapping utilities, traits, and weapons is practically a hobby for regular dungeon runners.

Check out the ongoing king of the hill thread, the current NA champ is running a LB beastmaster build that has beaten like half the ranger forum.

Not being able to change build reflects roaming and to some degree PvP queuing.

The current NA king is NOT a pure condi or power build, so feel free to use your 662, and if ItIsFinished is up the challlenge I think we are all curious if a full glass power ranger can claim the throne!

If someone can beat me while wearing no amulet I’m pretty much going to stop playing ranger and take up warrrior.

The rest I think are pretty reasonable. I think we should still leave some leeway up to the king, if he’s stressing himself out every fight, delay the handicaps for a couple fights. 5 or 7ish defenses.

I also wonder if handicaps solidified will get that kitteny kitten eurantien in here.

ItIsFinished on a RAMPAGE defense, I did some drunken duels with him tonight and he performed just as well.

Don’t forget once you get in the realm of about 5 or 7 consecutive defenses, consider dethroning yourself and coming back with a different build. This is up to the king, if every defense is a brutal struggle, you might stay, if you are slaughtering people, you might use the same build with a self imposed handicap.

Also I’d like to point out there has yet to be a MoC build in this.

The typical celestial weapon combo is a/d + s/t so you have a little bit of everything on both swaps. Offhand axe is amazing, but maybe you’ll be better off with dagger for some more general survival skills.

And ya, condi removal. Especially for PvP, SoR is like the most underrated skill in the entire game I think. It basically does everything and then does other things you didn’t think about doing.

Snow this is purely for fun (with a bit of learning and practice.) If you don’t want to play, don’t. If you do, please leave your e-moa behind.

As a FA player, I wouldn’t describe this as punishment at all. We still have our normal primetime where we go have some fun, and then we go to sleep. It’s punishment for you guys.

It’s an incredibly stupid matchup that could be more fun for your non-FA primetime guys, but we’re having fun because basically nothing has changed from our waking point of view.

Between SotF and RaO you don’t need the red moa. Drakehound is nice.

These threads are always weird since we haven’t heard of 99% of the commanders on other servers.

For zergs, ya GS is way better. He wants to roam with LB though. S/D is better in 1v1 or 1vX for WvW where there is plenty of room to play. I wouldn’t want to fight more than one person on a glass LB if you only have a GS on swap, it doesn’t have enough defense.

I do agree GS is way better for camps, too. I carry all the weapons in WvW so you can switch it up on the fly.

There are tons of good fights to be had once it gets back to being a 3-way instead of FA vs SoS 1v1. Neither of us has enough overwhelming numbers to make life miserable for a T3 server moving up. Whoever moves up is going to have a hell of a lot of fun I think.

LB can be viable for roaming, but you need condi removal as has been brought up with several different options. Also consider Sigil of Generosity, but it’s fairly expensive.

I recommend S/D; it’s better for WvW. S/D has 6 movement skills and GS has 1.

If you don’t take the SotF build, I’d also remove MoC and put some of your spare points in to any of the trait lines lower on the tree for some defense. Nature’s Protection for example. And you’ll want Primal Reflexes. Probably want Lightning Reflexes as well.

The SotF build will really eat in to your damage, and I don’t like being forced to use my utilities for cond removal, I want them for when I want them. So… if I were you I’d give SoR a go, perhaps in some duels. Yesterday I 2v1d a necro and mesmer using only SoR for condi removal, just use it with some thought.

When you said in the other thread you relied on your team for condi removals, I thought they would actually remove your condis. I didn’t watch the video straight through, but I fast forwarded looking for ranger play and you needlessly died to condis a lot. Why not just swap one of your signets for SoR? You lose basically nothing and gain a LOT.

Nope. Focus needs to be on players fighting players. If you want a funhouse, go to EotM.

I’m going to put my challenge in for about thursday depending on ItIsFinished schedule and his ability to continue to sit atop my throne. So few NA rangers!

Are people really CCing your pets that often? I mean I do rarerly, but I’m a ranger, and I only do it when I realize I’m about to get messed up by the pet.

Sidenote, when I dueled eggyokeo for the king of the hill thread, I actually immobilized his pet because I was low enough on health it would have killed me if he hit the F2.

No me gusta just from a numbers point of view. I see the benefit, but for me, intimidation training is more useful all the time — there is never a fight where it’s not useful. Stability for a pet comes in to play in a fight-changing manner… I wouldn’t even hazard a guess how often.

Edit: I don’t mean to discourage LB users or say anyone is kitteny for using this, it’s just way too one dimensional and risky to ever be meta.

I’m honestly surprised it goes for a mere 8 or 10 gold, energy is that good. It’s a little weaker on a LB build since you don’t switch weapons as often as other builds, but my goodness is it good.

Basic idea is you need to not go full glass. Try to layer your defenses so that if one thing fails you have several back up plans. You can check out my build in the ongoing king/queen of the hill thread (first NA king post.) It’s fairly similar to what I roamed with for over a year. Dog immobilize + muddy terrain will honestly kill like 80% of players who aren’t used to a not-full-GC ranger.

The player that beat me was actually using a LB build as well.

Edit: Eh, I have some time, I’ll expand. You won’t hit much of anything at range without read the wind, but you can probably work with PO if you were picturing this as a more close range fighter. I didn’t have RTW (it didn’t exist) for most of the time I was roaming with LB, so my goal was to knock off half their health if I didn’t outright kill them, then they close the gap and I slowly whittle them down with s/d, entangle, and occasionally swapping to LB for the #3 and #4. LB is a really cool melee range weapon.

I do have a sigil of ice on my LB just to add one more annoyance to getting towards me, but if I still used it much I would put sigil of generosity on it. IMO drakehound and wolf are the way to go, although I see the benefit of the spider. Drakehound needs to be used more actively, and spider is very much fire and forget. If you start your fight by sending in the drakehound from outside even LB range, you can really catch people off guard with a KD or howl. Play it by ear, if they’re paying attention they may dodge one or even both, in which case you can probably light them up with a MT and RF.

Also don’t forget if someone isn’t getting out of an immobilze, get behind them so they can’t attack you. For example, necros are weak at immobilize, but if you snare them and then stand in front of them you will melt in seconds. Stand behind them and they can’t do anything.

I will be reclaiming my NA throne this week if no one comes for you ItIsFinished.

Also this thread has really highlighted how like 95% of the ranger forum is EU.

So if 1 out of 100 players was a ranger before, we’re now looking at 1.8 rangers per 100. Sounds reasonable!

It’s been ages since I’ve used it on anything other than ambient wildlife to get my WH kills up (at 3k! Wooo!)

I think if it applied a condition, and I don’t even care which one, it might find a use. A blind makes sense, since the target is engulfed in birds and feathers, and blind would instantly make the skill useful.

Fair enough. Many people don’t like the SB so I figured I’d toss it out there.

SB still does a substantial amount of physical damage due to the attack speed, so it might be worth trying a couple games with your setup with celestial.

Do you like the SB? I think you might be better off with the typical a/d + s/t setup (or maybe warhorn for the blast.) More mobility, defense, and probably more condi damage since SB is pretty difficulty to get the bleed with. SB also has the same range as axe.

I was going to say it doesn’t look like you have consistent condi cleanse, but I see you already edited your post about that.

I would also use a celestial amulet to make use of that sweet sweet might stacking. That would also play well with RaO since you wanted to change that anyway.

SoS is instant cast, but your other skills can apparently be interrupted if the tooltip and wiki isn’t lying. So say, you cast signet of stone and use rapid fire immediately afterwards. People could interrupt it. You’d take 0 damage of course.

That also means signet of stone doesn’t really do much vs condi builds.

There are only a small handful of true invulnerability skills in the game. Many people, myself including, misuse the term to refer to the other 9000 skills in game that prevent damage.

That’s why I was saying SoS and PM are fairly well balanced. It’s basically do you want to prevent the immediate damage and get out (stunbreaker), possibly at the cost of your pet, or do you want to stand there and eat all the CC and condis. For sturdier melee, SoS is better IMO, for glass LB, PM is way better.

Longhorn? Someone is from Texas. I would go for energy myself. You can’t have two stacking sigils anyway.

Your personal opinion doesn’t matter for this one. :p

Also be careful having minis out if you rely on stealth, which LBs do, since the mini will run around after you. There is a slight delay on the mini and the LB stealth isn’t very long, but if you make a big direction switch for the confusion, the mini can ruin that.

The build posting by the current king is to encourage counter builds as well. If you see a glaring weakness in a build (the reason I picked a glass LB build when I put myself on top of the hill) by all means, exploit that weakness! You don’t necessarily need a fantastic dueling build, just spot weaknesses and make them pay!

No quick draw, no read the wind, no condi removal, worst healing skill, no protection, no CC, no vigor, no fire/air sigils, no stun breaker once you use QZ for the burst, no nope. Not a fan.

A lot of people will post their builds shortly, but the general idea to help you make your own is that might stacking works best with celestial builds. It also can be transferred to your pet via fortifying bond.

This is a very all or nothing build. You really need your team to be on board with this and if you get spiked every time the enemy sees you, it could be disastrous.

I agree with nagymbear, I think you can add a lot of survivability by switching just some minor things and barely lower your damage.

But variety is the spice of life I guess.

I was picturing you keep your build, and then upon your first victory and every victory after you can change those things. As always I’m open to editing the wording if everyone disagrees.

I know, it’s terrible that they didn’t buff the damage on a 3/4 second long massively telegraphed melee skill that only lands by being set up with a 1 and 1/4 second long randomly used AI skill with a massive tell. Oh well. Hopefully we’ll get some fixes next update.

Yes, 1v1ish is what I was thinking for PM on a LB. I don’t zerg with a glass LB and I think LB is a terrible choice for sPvP. I guess if you were zerging with a glass LB, SoS would be superior, but it’s irrelevant because if you’re getting hit with enough that your pet explodes, you’re going to explode too.

1v1 on a glass LB, PM is unquestioningly superior IMO. On the other hand, I wouldn’t be using either one of them these days.
