Where is the Fractal Update? Is the Ad Infinitum collection in?
How do I check to know my GPU is running GW64 and not my CPU? Dont know why my it feels like my CPU is chugging lately. i7 4790k and gtx980.
Memory leak has been a big issue, but due to it I reboot fairly often. I can leak 15.9gig (of 16gig total) in 1-3 days. Sometimes I’ll have issues around 9/16gig but I’ve heard leaked memory doesn’t always show on Task Manager>Performance.
What’s leaking memory, GW2? Never heard of it leaking memory like what you describe.
Where are dev posts on the issue. I thought it was a Win10/NVIDIA thing until I heard about it.
Manually configuring it should only apply to those with both an integrated and dedicated GPU, which is mainly laptops. The dedicated GPU only activates for certain applications and Gw2-64.exe is unknown, which is why some people saw very poor performance. You can simply rename Gw2-64.exe to Gw2.exe however, which also fixes/prevents some other minor problems.
Tried the rename and it feels smooth! I’ll run it all day and report back. Thanks so much.

Why would you even worry about that, your operating system will take care of all that.
I have a similar setup i7 and SLI GTX 580’s, I get anything from 50-120 fps depending where I am.
Memory leak, there’s a memory leak, never noticed it.
When the memory usage hits 15.9/16 everything locks up or goes 5fps.
TMK, GW2 doesn’t acknowledge SLI/CF.

A friend told me that you have to go into NVIDIA Control Center and set it to run the 64bit client or the CPU will run it.
Specifically, the Vale Guardian pillars and the Sabetha firefight are bringing my i7-4790k to its knees — even on lowest settings.
This would explain my recent issues with GW2:HOT and the 64bit client does not appear on the default list for the GPU, but when I select it, I don’t get any apply/save option.
Anyone else have the same issue?
I went from being able to play on ultra and record to having terrible chug CPU-esque FPS drop. If I run 32bit, then I’m getting crashes in HOT maps.
I care! dfghdfghdhdfgh
I’m curious how people would react if they designated 5 hotjoin servers for solo queue only.
Hotjoin isn’t TPvP. No tpvp wins, no big reward track rewards.
If anything, the problem is that ranked queue is off.
If you’re high MMR and you’re stuck in unranked, you get low MMR players on your team. —> Lose
If you’re low MMR and ranked queue is down, you get high MMR players on the opposing team. —> Lose
I made this observation after ~5 unranked matches, so it’s probably accurate.
Personally, after the crappy unranked conquest matches, I switched to stronghold and I farmed the hell out of it last night. Only losses are 4v5s and premades.
We should all be talking about the lack of a solo queue and the lack of temporary pvp bans for leavers. Dishonor in the game is not even noticeable. The 1% of players who are leavers ruin the game for the other 99% and they need to get shut down.
One d/c? 0-5 minute pvp lockout. Two d/c? 30-45 min lockout. Three d/c? 60-120 min lockout. A history of d/c? Double the lockout duration. If you don’t want to be there—don’t queue.
Can we get a title for having all 9 TPVP Champion titles?
I’m sure some people care.
Please add this for the December patch.
I beg of you~!
Raid-specific currency caps at 105. After a boss kill and some trash, you meet that cap rather quickly.
Therefore, after you’ve killed the bosses for yourself there is no incentive to help other groups with their own runs.
If we want to promote the player-friendly, helping culture we talk about, this should be rethought.
I want to help others on their boss kills, but I also want to be compensated for the many many hours that entails.
Raids have value BECAUSE they are challenging. If you dumb it down for the masses, they will turn into trash like dungeons.
I don’t see all the fuss.
It was public knowledge that DnT had tester status, but you’d also make some noise if you were on the team that cleared it on live too. I don’t think they’re honestly claiming a legit world first, but I don’t care to search out and read every post by every member like some of you.
Many of you take simple trash talk way too seriously and many of you are just looking for any reason to stab some people around here in the back at any opportunity. I guess I’m in the middle on the issue, but hating on some guild doesn’t bring you any closer to clearing Raids yourself. Worry about yourself.
The few DnT members I’ve played with have been nice to me in game, but I have seen some of the drama everyone likes to post about. You’re crazy if you expect anyone to be perfect online at all times, especially when you have a constant torrent of haters 24/7 on every step you take. If you harass someone, they’re probably going to spit fire back at you.
Timers are not good—they are GREAT.
Warning: Unpopular Opinion
I’m sorry if some people thought they could have everyone throw on tank gear and stand still spamming 1111 for 2 hours per boss while a heal bot tops everyone off.
That playstyle does not deserve dibs on the best loot in the game.
ANet vowed that raids will be hard—and “run on player tears”—and they will stand by it. This thread is quite the example. Groups (without testing headstarts) have already cleared it days after release and everyone who has not has hours of REWARDING content ahead of them.
If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.
(edited by Gav.1425)
and I dare to think people will not be prone to dps check the tank or healer
You can DPS while taking and/or healing. Everything counts. A lot.
Raids aren’t designed for PUG. You should be Raiding with people you want to invest your time in and develop as a team. I think this alone will reduce the DPS meter kick trend.
You will want to bring those people you know up to speed instead of kicking left and right—but you need to know the data to know when there’s a problem to fix it.
Just want to let you guys know, we haven’t forgotten about this issue. We’re investigating a fix and hope to have it out to you as soon as possible.
Stay tuned!
An official response is much appreciated.
Have you considered having an NPC trade in our unused FoTM skins for 20 pristine each, then we can rebuy weapon boxes?
Then find a way to make the game recheck/reset fractal skins in wardrobe upon opening specifically a fractal weapon box. Easier said than done, but it’s an idea.
I’m one of the many with a pre-HoT bank tab of stacks of spare fractal skins and 0/19 on the collection. This chance would also free me up some space.
Please, by the gods, don’t let this stall my Ad Infinitum! :O
Make it rewarding to be stuck in HoTM or redo HoTM for HoT (gliding, JPs, mushrooms, fun)
Or let us leave HoTM while queued. When Q pops, just have a dragonhunter trap graphic pop up and capture the character, making them invulnerable and force the queue.
Also, at least give me an individual sound volume slider for the “queue-pop” sound so I can hear it better if I’m AFK>
Maybe Anet heard us! We had 3 Daily Rec Fracs today! Rejoice!
I’m expecting a [Wolf] Raid vid within this upcoming week.
SPOILER.. kinda..
I hope they write a fractal featuring Rata Novus before the destruction and its fall.
#asura
The ratio of them screaming : to the actual dialogue is not in your favor.
And Tengu stuff. Those are all great ideas.
The point is, they already have so much rich lore available, the stories write themselves or are already written in so many cases.
I’m just one example. I only played vanilla GW1 and I’ll probably never be able to delve into that world, but many people are in my shoes.
Maybe you missed some GW2 events that will never come again. Here’s your shot.
FoTM 100 obviously should be some insane SAB mismatch level. All Mistlocks SAB-related.
HUUUUUUAAAAAHHHHH-aHHHH
UHHHHHHHHHH AHAHHHHHHHH
AHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHahHH
Please, by the gods change them. Remove them. Give me a separate volume slider for them. With all the improvements to character dialogue, for the first time I’m consistently running with voice dialog un-muted and Revenant voices are terrible.
Voice dialog is so good right now, and even critical in certain meta events, including of course the story. The problem is since your Revenant is closer than those NPCs, your Rev voices are twice as loud and oh so terrible. Terrible.
Glint sounds like an angry old grandmother coughing up a hairball. Shiro’s screams sound like he’s an “adult actor” mid-scene.
Whoever selected these sound files should try to play the game on surround sound with your friends/girlfriend in the room. Have fun explaining that one.
Immersion killer.
Everything else is pretty awesome. Bastion’s boon increase is still broken, but that’s a different story..
In light of the recent announcement of Fractal changes yesterday, I think we need to express ourselves while we have some attention.
We wanted new content, not new arbitrary level numbers on the same old maps, not a new color on old weapon skins without their particle effects.
Here are my proposed solutions.
New maps once or twice a year — New fights like Abaddon that tell some of that rich GW1 lore many of us GW2 players never experienced. Old fights that we’ll never get to see again like Scarlet fights, defense of LA, the one-time Karka fight, living story. Give us the old fights that took a lot of development but yielded less value because of exposure like LS3 final fight, Claw island, or the opportunity for a revamped Zhaitan fight. FoTM’s freedom from the timeline should give developers unlimited opportunities, but we’re not seeing it put into effect.
New mechanics on old maps — Bosses need more than 2 attacks.
Rethink Mistlocks — New Mistlocks are not new maps. Re-think a way these can add to the experience.
Improve the FoTM Mastery, AR, achievements, and infusions — The FoTM mastery was an unrelated, flavorless grind. Mastery should be more than merchant unlocks and a singularity that doesn’t really change my experience. Add more singularities and put agony resist into the mastery. Agony resist should be an account-unlock through achievements and mastery and available to all the characters on an account. Pumping AR into every slot on all items is clunky and only has value in FoTM. Unless you want to carry around a bunch of sets, you miss out on more creative infusions. Keep in mind that infusions will be expending with Raids and you don’t want to be missing out.
Rethink rewards — What if anything is valuable in a fractal encryption? The cat golem minis are all the same thing with a different color and appeal only to the mini-hoarders of Tyria. Give us new, exclusive minis like a mini Molten Berserker, mini Anomaly, mini Zhaitan, or give us rare, old minis on a high RNG like mini Molten Firestorm. You could bring back the molten jetpack on another high RNG. If encryptions are selling for 10-15s on the TP, the balance is off. Restore ascended drops to their old RNG or put them on the vendor for 50-100 pristine. Old rates weren’t crazy high. I ran a lot of FoTM and it took me 6 months to start filling a bank tab of chests and of that most were gloves and boots. It did not need a drop nerf.
Rethink weapon skins — If you ask anyone their favorite thing about the old skins, it will be the particle effect across the board. New skins lost that touch and are the old skins with a golden paint job—a color that is unpopular if you look around and won’t even match the legendary pack piece. Redo new skins in the old theme. Give us a rapier sword, a 2-handed scimitar, a melee staff, etc. They don’t have to all launch at the same time, but this is a much better option. Old skins were the staying factor for old FoTM and selling them on the vendor was a terrible idea.
Modify the time-gate — FoTM 100 and/or mastery should give me even more Daily Recommended Levels. If everyone gets 2 Daily Recs, a FoTM 100 player with mastery should get 4-5 to speed the flavorless time-gate and incentivise higher level FoTMs. Add a Daily Rec 50-75 and a Daily Rec 76-100. If people want to say the higher levels are too hard—don’t do them. Right now there is no incentive for higher level FoTM. Players who did 50,40,30 daily now just run a 8 and a 21 for the pages and call it a day.
Final thoughts — After HoT story and DS, you just can’t help but feel like our developers are capable of so much more than we’re seeing in FoTM right now. FoTM right now is the sloppy joe of GW2. Take the old meat, add some new sauce, slop it on a bun, and send it out. We’ll eat it, but we know it’s reheated left-overs.
I’d like to add that I feel my money was well spent on HoT—but that has absolutely nothing to do with FoTM in its current state.
(edited by Gav.1425)
Interesting concepts. I’m all about adding old limited time events into FOTM for players who missed them.
Scarlet’s final fight. That one-time Karka event.
Or other iconic fights like Claw Island.
Skins were the reason for the 3 year grind and they made the poor choice to give them out practically for free.
New skins look terrible and demand is almost non-existent. They removed the best part of the skins—the particle effect—and just gave us recolored dusty versions of the old stuff on a worse RNG. It seems like the smallest amount of effort possible was put into the biggest FoTM grind incentive.
I’m sure gold skins took a ton of work in reality, but to the player, it just looks like they just dropped a bucket of gold paint on the old stuff in MS paint and clicked save.
Holy kitten, you took an hour on 100.
Anyways, yeah the last fight was pretty difficult…to stay awake. I did it in a LFG PUG 4-man because no 5th on LFG was interested in coming to a scary Mai 100.
Didn’t know what to expect so I kept 3 Phantasmal Defenders up and spammed AoE Mantra heals for everyone. We were able to face tank her and the Mistlock the entire fight—full zerk. Poor boss mechanics/dps = no feeling of accomplishment. Tell someone you beat Mai100 and they grats you for staying awake, not for the success.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
At least, judging by what we’ve seen (not tested b/c bugged) in betas there will be more roles than DPS, regardless of 99% being DPS anyways. 1 extra slot for diversity. Way to go.
So you can’t DPS and support or DPS and CC? That’s impossible to you?
I didn’t know wearing zerk (or sin) made all of your boons, heals, and cc ineffective.
I see. Originally thought to just use my Finite Result for a random alt, but I guess that works too.
Yeah, we wish we were getting 4 ascended backpieces out of this.
Winners, losers, and speculation! TL/DR in bold.
Fractals – They created incentive to do low level fractals while removing any incentive to do higher level fractals (after the achievement).
Mechanics – New mistlocks are less challenging and more of an annoyance to be honest. I won’t hit every single one, but I want to make a point. They made boon strip and condi clear more valuable which is good, but in general it just feels like a half-hearted attempt to throw a wrench into the zerker stack meta. Let’s all run condi builds and attack from range—is this what anyone wanted? Is this good for this game type? Cutting boss damage in half and doubling boss HP is the most boring thing anyone could have done to FoTM. Now the only skill required is the skill to stay awake.
Mastery - having maxed mastery does give you more options, but it could be much better. There is no journey, no flavor, just a grind and some point allocation. Why doesn’t FoTM give viable FoTM-mastery exp? It just feels like completely unrelated grind-gate and the final rewards lack flavor. Merchants? Okay. The singularities are more interesting, but they could and should do so much more with this. There’s no depth here. Okay, go grind out some exp and let us know when you can run high level FoTM with us again—just hope we’re not done with the achievements because then we have no more reason to run them again.
Rewards - Initially I made good money TPing everything before the market realized that encryptions are crap and +1s drop like rain in a storm. I understand the value of gold sinks for inflation, but should my PvE grind be my gold sink? With the cost breakdown, you lose money or barely break even salvaging those 1000s of rings you saved for 2-3 years. I hope they increase demand on those stabilzers 100×. Ascended chests are a myth.
Golden skins – They removed the BEST part about the skins—the particle effect. They look so terrible. Gold isn’t even a popular color scheme if you take a look around. Much better options would be to keep the skin (and old particle effect) and add a color swap option or add new similar skins with the old color and old particle effects. IE a large 2-handed scimitar or katana GS to compare to our current “frosty bacon strip GS”. IE a rapier sword, a melee staff, a hammer that looks like a hammer.. etc.. These new skins don’t even have to launch all at once, but it looks lazy just slapping gold on old skins and adding dust while removing the effect. I’m almost relieved that I hate the new skins so I don’t have any more grind after I make the legend. New skins won’t even match the legendary backpiece… It’s the skins that kept people doing FoTM for years—they’re a HUGE deal. On that same note, selling old skins for 20 pristine is probably the nail in the coffin to kill any demand or prestige they once had.
Ad Infinitum – By the gods, it looks glorious. I must have it in my life. Even the lesser pieces look great. This is the first legendary I’ve cared about since you can sport the skin on all characters and you can’t outright buy it. Everyone wants to remark on how easy those collections are, but they forget that a precursor is only 1/4 of a legendary recipe and we could be in store for quite a hell of a time ahead of us. Although, the more horrible the final grind, the less people that will have it. There is more to earning an achievement or prestige item than time gates.
HOW TO FIX: Rethink mistlocks. Put something worth having in the encryptions like mini Molten Berserker or Molten Jet Pack or… anything.. maybe even ascended boxes. Rethink toughness scaling, boss HP, and boss damage. Make sure the legendary journey proves that the player wearing it earned that thing. Rethink the mastery track. Have higher level FoTM or higher level mastery unlock even more of those Daily Recommended levels so a FoTM100 guy with maxed mastery has 4-5 of those per day. Time gates are a lazy way to stretch out boring or insufficient content and no one is fooled.
Fractals summary – I think there’s a lot more to come. Mechanics are poor. Rewards are poor. The legendary looks amazing.
Dungeons – The nerf was unnecessary, but it had less of an impact than we expected. Dungeons are still run on LFG, but much less. I just don’t see the point of invalidating old content that people put hundreds of hours into. To funnel us into the new content? Maybe push more HoT purchases? People will buy HoT because HoT is great and not because non-HoT content gets gutted. If you want to control the economy and inflation, give me something worth buying with all that gold and I won’t have so much of it.
Raids – With what they have done with the final battle on Dragon Stand, I am so confident that they have the POTENTIAL to make raids a grand slam. Honestly, after BWE3 raiding, I was interested, but not very excited other than it just being new content. After doing the final battle of DS—that was the best PvE I’ve ever done—I hope Raids can follow suit.
Tell me what you think!
(edited by Gav.1425)
A classic legendary weapon recipe is: Precursor + Gift of [Legendary] + Gift of Fortune + Gift of Mastery.
(All assumptions)
Precursor – Unbound or salvaged from it
Gift of Fortune – $$$$$$$, maybe gold relics, ugh
Gift of Mastery – Maguuma mastery + Gift of ascention (FoTM NPC) + bloodstone shard (200 skill pt) + 250 Obsidian shards (since the NPC sells them for relics)
Gift of Ad Infinitum – ???
With what they showed they can do with the final DS battle, Raids should be a home run.
Everyone I’ve listened to so far has been laughing about how easy the collections are for Finite Result, Upper Bound, and Unbound.
1) We do not know if Unbound is even the precursor.
2) A precursor is 1/4 of a legendary recipe. There is no limit to the evil they have in front of us for the rest of this.
If you really think you’re going to farm level 21-50 challenges for that big shiny…
Bewaaaaaaare~!
PS. On the bright side, I really like all the various levels of the back piece. This is the first legendary I’ve actually cared about since it fits my scheme and I will use it on every single character.
Good points. I think much of the mastery stuff is bonus, ie. Adrenal mushrooms.
Now, if you’re on my team, I’d sure love you to have Itzel 6, but if you’re a good player—you’re still a good player.
I’d rather wait for finished content than rushed content on time (Zhaitan), but I’d love to hear some timelines all the same. :S
Divide your $50 by how many hours you have / will put into the new content and let the math speak for you.
I doubt anyone put less than 10 hours into the new content considering everything they added. That would be $5 per hour of entertainment for you. Many are probably already closer to 100 hours on the new content bringing your cost closer to $0.50 per hour.
I don’t know anywhere else we’d find interactive content for such value.
No. Raids were possibly available within a month. Maybe. Depending on how they test out.
They’re also going to be massively gated by Jungle Masteries, so odds are good you still have some prep work to do while you’re waiting
.
Masteries were a speed bump.
Had a ton of fun, but pretty much done with everything. Time for Raids!
Jungle masteries and requiring ascended armor and weapons. Which most people probably don’t have.
Unless you plan on Raiding off the LFG tab, I’m not worried about what gear most people run. I can find 9 others off my friends tab with the pink stuff and a big golden number by their heads.
Time for Raids!
Patches come on Tuesdays.. Raids were supposed to be 2 weeks post HoT-launch, right?
WRU Raids~!
i like these suggestions
Can confirm, using a shield skill does not extend the boon duration of my existing boons.
From what I remember, this is the way the trait has been since it was introduced though. Of course, I could be wrong.
I tested swiftness stacking with and without shield, with and without F2 facet and it worked. I could stack about a minute of swiftness. Now I’m stuck at 7-11s.
In play, I could stack so much fury that I could use the use ability and turn fury back on way before my boon would run out.
Herald grandmaster trait Soothing Bastion now reads:
Activate Crystal Hibernation (shield 5) when struck when you are below the health threshold. Using a shield skill increases boon duration.
Number of targets: 5.
Duration increase: 2 seconds.
Radius: 600.
IIRC in BWE3 you only had to equip a shield for the bonus. Now we have to be using a shield skill? Keep in mind our shield skill cool downs aren’t something we can be spamming.
Also, I’ve tried testingthis but I don’t understand the AOE aspect of this skill. This benefit is supposed to hit my party? Hence number of targets and radius. No one around me gets any +2 seconds boon duration buff or effect I can detect.
This trait was probably the main reason to run shield for me. Looks like the only Herald GM winner right now is Elder’s Force (+2% damage per boon).
Please undo this change.
Edit: With further testing, I don’t even think the boon duration is working at all. I tried spamming shield skills and watching swiftness duration from the facet. I’ve also tried counting might stacks with shield, shield skills, and without shield.
(The crystal hibernation part does work..)

The new pull is so terrible. Please fix! Focus is still relevant!
This is an MMO, not a single player game. While I enjoy my share of solo-able content, right now you’re fighting a dragon and its entire army. Did you think you were going to solo it?
This isn’t Zhaitan (yet).
I won’t lie. Salvaging my 1000 fractal rings was definitely on my lost of things I was excited for in HoT. Now with the huge gold sink and without a clear use for the drops, has anyone found a reason to do so?
TL/DR: Salvaging rings costs too much. Does anyone have good uses for the materials? Maybe the backpiece..
Does anyone know if the bat effect will remain if you’re wearing an outfit? Does anyone know of amulet infusion effects (queenbee, poly colors) work if you’re wearing an outfit?
I need me some bats! https://youtu.be/3m2o0shlt-c

Seems to be a bit greedy and a punch in the kitten to existing players who have been around for 3 years
I stopped reading this poorly written wall of text after this.
You played for 3 years and you’re crying about $50? Do you know that it costs money to make games? You know your money pays for development, right?
Be gone. Get a job and get off my lawn.
Where is the dev response? :S
