There is definitelly a bug…. how come that I sometimes cannot stomp a revenant (1 on 1) no inteference from other players)? I let the animation finish, I wait for the little stomping ball of light to reach the ground, I wait till the cast bar is full and I wait a little bit more. But nothing happens. My character just stands there getting hit by the downed revenant and I have no other option than to cleave him down.

Quickness stomp bug

When you stomp someone in a busy team fight and you have quickness, the stomp usually will not go off.

Sometimes you finish the animation and the stomp itself is late. Sometimes you can stomp them 3 times in quickness and still get nothing.

It also appears to break with slow as well (ie. revenant downstate).

When will they fix this?

I tried boon stripping on a chrono, the amount utility you need to keep boons relatively low means no wells. Even with 3 disenchanters active, null field and arcane thievery the boons went up to 3+ all too often so I really doubt it’s worth it. Better just ignore boons, get the lvls once for the achievements and then do other lvls imo.

I ran Disenchanters and Null Field and had no issues when spamming sword auto.

Every DG in GW2 has unique weapons and armor sets. What about FOTM ? I think that Fractals DESERVE to have unique armor sets. In the end, the point is that everyone want to earn something proving that he is good at.

I’d run fractal armor if it looked great.

Just be patient man, you’ve only been waiting since Fractured OK? Give it a couple more years and a few more false alarms and you might have something along the lines of a leaderboard, alright?

On the more serious side, hopefully it will be within a month or two at the most.

Ideally it would have been now while most of us are on breaks from work/school and have time to do some massive grinding.

I was one of many waiting for the last Fractal Update patch like a kid coming down the stairs on Christmas morning — but no beans! No mention of Ad Infinitum, Gift of Fractals, Gift of Infinity!

Have we had any sort of update or mention of this legendary since the pre-HoT fractal post on the main page?

This was one of my top features for Heart of Thorns and it’s quite absent.

Winter’s Presence shoulder item JP requirement? I can try my best to do the other achievements, but the JP is just not going to happen for people that have medical issues with their hands. People that suffer from carpal tunnel or arthritis are pretty much SOL when it comes to doing the JP puzzle once, let alone 3 times. Please consider removing the requirement for the JP ANET!

I did VG with 660 ping once. I also did the trash run too. Had to climb up the right side of the log for the jump glide height.

Wouldn’t want to do Gor or Sabe like that tho.

I don’t use any and I’d much much prefer an in-game method, but I’d Anet has given the green light anywhere, I might just go that route myself.

Has anyone noticed that gw2 seems to rely much more on the CPU than the GPU? Are you noticing a lack of multi-core utilization? Wish gw2 could run a bit better? There is an answer to these questions…

Too long has gw2 been confined to the ancient limitations of dx9. It is time to make your voice heard! If ANET were to rewrite gw2 in dx12, we would see massive performance gains! Why confine the game to a single core when we can use all the cores? Dx12 has massive gains over dx11, imagine what the gain over dx9 would be!
I want to see the marvelous world that ANET has sculpted better than ever before. I want to be able to use the full power of my system to make it sharp as it can be.

You know that you can’t just throw GW2 on DX12. They’d probably have to rewrite the game they’ve taken 3 years +5 years of pre-launch to create.

Would DX12 even touch any of the real performance issues?

I try to stay optimistic, but this post will swing back and forth. Here’s my thoughts from a 3 year PvXer having played all game types in a relatively tryhard fashion throughout..

PvE

FoTM - Starting here mainly because this is heralded as ‘the FoTM" patch. FoTM was close to my heart, earning all skins pre-HoT and daily runs, but I can’t say I’m optimistic that we’ll see a fix for the main issues here of (1) rewards, (2) mistlocks being uninteresting/un-fun, (3) replay-ability over 50+.

- Rewards: My speculation is that the reward increase will just bump a few more silver per encryption while reducing the drop-rate of encryptions and keys … for a net loss or net same per fractal run. You’ll see encryptions go up slightly on the TP for (1) the patch hype and (2) the reduction in supply. I do not forsee any added creativity to the rewards system (ie. new content, exclusive minis, etc).

- Toughness scaling: Great—now zerk is back on par with condi. Unfortunately, everyone that cared has already done the 50-100 achievos and with no incentive to go back and that is probably not changing any time soon. The only reason I could see making us go back would be for Ad Infinitum.

- Ad Infinitum: We are likely to not even get the completed recipe revealed this patch. I can only imagine the sheer amount of un-creative, un-inventive time-gating that will be in our future for this. Time-gate is not an achievement—it’s a stalling technique to prolong the life of poor content. The content is poor if you have to time-gate it to get anyone to want to do it. Since the PvP legendary will require 2 seasons, I’m unfortunately expecting quite the gate on this guy too.

- Fractal leaderboards: No one wants this. No one. There is a chance that it gates the Ad Infinitum which will only kitten of people even more. No one wants this.

- Solution? If you bump Fractal liquid rewards to near-dungeon levels, people will do FoTM for cash like old dungeon running. If you scale those liquid rewards appropriately with Frac level, then people will run those higher levels. Do not time-gate the kitten out of the legendary. A legendary should be achieved. Put some hard accomplishments on it. Ad infinitum should be a symbol of fractal pride. You want to see a player with Ad infinitum and think, “kitten , he completed x,y,z and earned that. wow.” not that he farmed a time gate for 250 fractal pages and then bought a ton of mats off the TP. No one wants Fractal leaderboards and it is/was a bad idea in the first place. Do not put Ad Infinitum requirements in RNG boxes. Don’t do it.

Dungeons - Just kidding.

Open World HoT / Story / New Elites - We could have had more maps and story could have been longer, but I had a great time. I played all elites through the maps and story and I enjoyed them all. I’m playing all elite specs through the new PvP seasons achieves and enjoying it 95% of the time. As predicted, that open world / story content lasted 1-2 months and the lull is here. Raids only delays that content lull for those of use who do it.

When is the next Story season and map scheduled? Doesn’t look like there has been much of anything new added to Wintersday—which is okay—so that team must be working on the next season.

Raids

Raids are almost perfect. They look amazing, the story has me wanting to follow through, and the fights are great. The trash fights are even engaging instead of a chore—you know you peed a little the first time when you panned behind you during the chase sequence. No cut scenes and no helpless NPCs for us to baby sit or bug either! The story moves with the action!

Bad players are punished for bad gear, bad builds, and most importantly, bad play. However, many many different builds and compositions work just fine. Strong teams of players can cruise through in around an hour or two—and it feels great. You bond pretty hard with a team you can count upon and those bonds are key in an MMO community. The struggle and the first kill you score is exactly the feeling these games aim to provide and the raid team nailed it. Turn your speakers down and go watch some of those first time kill videos around—every TS is ecstatic.

The drop rewards are pretty weak, however. I don’t expect a Ghostly infusion off every boss, but there should be some middle ground, but the currency system was a great idea and fixes a lot of problems. The problem is the fact that once you cap out your shards and boss kills for the week, there is no reason to help anyone else get their kills.

If you want a player-friendly, helpful culture, you need to incentivise it. If a team needs help, they’re probably not the strongest team and that means you can be there helping them for hours as they learn. If you’re burning good, expensive food to do it, that puts a helper in a pretty negative spot. I enjoy seeing anyone make their first boss kill, but that often costs hours.

Solution? Give shards or some bonus for multiple boss kills with players on the team that have not yet killed it that week. This combats farm teams do a degree.

PvP

I won’t talk about class balance. The meta is what it is and you either like it or don’t and adapt or don’t. Personally, I play everything so I could care less.

Leagues is such a great concept and if you ignore the pip system and a lack of a solo queue and think of all leagues is or could be and it’s great. The small problem is the metrics feel flawed (PUG vs premade on voice chat is straight garbage) and the MMR/pip system needs work.

Specifically, higher MMR players face other higher MMR players in games worth the same amount of pips as low vs low, thus both players will climb the ranks equally fast and a higher player can’t break out. Currently, the pip system reflects players who grind pips, not the better players so far. A great player who gets matched and wins a high MMR game should skyrocket into an appropriate league. If you can hang with ESL players, you shouldn’t have to grind through green when you can hang with reds and above. The league is still a week or two old and I’m sure in time things can flush out much better.

After leaving amber, Leagues has completely fixed my 4v5 problem. I recognize this is partially luck, but people not wanting to lose pips seems to make everyone’s internet connection a whole lot more stable.

Solution: High MMR game wins should be worth a whole lot more pips. Lack of solo queue is kitten. Pure kitten. Unless they want to add a voice comm system to PvP, then give us solo queue. Also, why are players who solo and players who team even in the same rating system? How is that not flawed. :S

WvW

In beta, we said the maps were too big and had too much PvE. Well, the maps are too big and have too much PvE. We also said changing the reset time to something more convenient for the A-net team while killing the most-important and strongest WvW night was a bad idea. While it feels like this is exactly what happened, does anyone have any stats on how bad all of this hurt WvW? Honestly, it feels like they’re so out of touch with what WvWers want and now WvWers feel like the old PvPers before the eSports push, not that PvPers ever had it great.

If you ask the WvW community what they want, they’ll tell you. They have told you for 3 years. Less PvE, more fights, more action, less lag, bug fixes.

GvG - Too little too late? No one cares about GvG anymore or I’m now too far away from the GvG community to even hear the noise.

Game Performance

The 64 bit client was a step in the right direction, but this engine has been hell for the players and the devs for all 3 years. Devs complain that the creativity they want to bring to the game is always limited by the game engine. Players complain because we have monster PC gaming computers that can choke on even small scale encounters. Memory leak and everything else.. I personally have a beast computer, but I can stutter in the Sabetha or Gor fights even on lowest graphics some days. My PC has crushed every singe other game it has ever touched.

The huge grind required to play the new professions?

I just cashed in my saved up bonus rank reward chests in EoTM and run around new HoT maps for hero challenges. This took a few hours the first time and then maybe an hour per char after that once I knew my way around and had a mastery or two.

It’s intimidating when you don’t know the system, but you ask in game, here, or reddit and you cruise on through.

If the new BLs were active, I’m sure I could have grinded it out in blob v blob with no problem. The grind is part of the psychology that keeps players attached to their characters, like it or not.

Awesome idea, but wouldn’t it not be legendary because there’s other variants of it? Shouldn’t legendary just be this one and only one specific item rather than a multitude of items sharing similar concepts?

Considering there are just under 10 guys AFK at the bank in LA with Twilights, I’m not sure how that argument holds.

Behold, Legendary weapon SETS.

Legendaries are great, but they do not match. Currently, if you want those best-in-slot skins, you only have one option (until new legendaries arrive) and you end up looking like some mix-match monster.

A legendary set example would to be putting the twilight scheme and particle effect on every weapon type. Did you love Twilight but you don’t use greatswords? There you go. Right now with only one legend per weapon (yes more to come) you don’t really have a unique way of expression. If legendaries were sets, you could make follow a scheme and do your own thing.

I imagine this would be less work in total for development to churn out more legendary options while using content already in the game, ie old legendary particles and 95% of the old recipes. All old Twilight materials + Zap = Twilight 1h sword. All old twilight mats + The Legend = Twilight staff. Etc. Same textures, same particles, same footsteps, same auras..

What about the new precursor collections? Let old pres work on different recipes as shown above and we won’t need new precursors or new collections. What if a player already made and used the one-time, account-bound precursor? They can go buy another one off the TP because we’re only talking about old legends for now (but doing this for the new skins is also an idea).

- Your Herald can’t use greatsword? Dual Twilight swords~!
- Love Bolt but only use Staff on your ele? Bolt staff!
- Too srs for The Dreamer? Incinerator short bow! Or whatever!
- Don’t think Quip/etc would be a good set candidate? Don’t make that one…

Partially rehashed old content that players would want — easier for devs, amazing for players.

I can see it now, a Twilight themed herald with a Ghastly shield. xD

This of course would be in addition to the new forthcoming legendaries.

Leagues - Intrinsic & Extrinsic Motivation

Common scenario: Someone (OP) posts a thread about unjustly losing a hard-earned pip. They claim they were a consistent PvPer, but now they are quitting PvP altogether!

That OP is right to feel upset, but this is what really happened.

Let’s say OP was a consistent PvPer playing 5-10 (or more) TPVP games per day. His motivation is intrinsic because he does it for the fun and we all know PvP in it’s current state is arguably unrewarding in any tangible sense (better with recent changes, but still).

Introduce Leagues: The concept of a reward system (the notoriety of an icon next to your name, leaderboards, and possibly golden angel wings) changes OP’s intrinsic motivation into extrinsic motivation — or reward driven motivation. Unfortunately, the reward system is arguably flawed and therefore the reward(s) are not valid. The removal of a perceived award nullifies OP’s motivation altogether.

Instead of playing the 5-10 TPVP games OP normally plays and shrugging off the flaws of a day-old system, they want to quit PvP totally.

OP is not wrong to feel this way; it’s human nature. My point is, we could all do better to understand how motivation works when you introduce rewards and try to remember this system is only hours old. Of course it needs work and it needs your help and constructive insight to be fixed.

A textbook psych 101 example would go like this. Let’s say the neighbor’s kid is very helpful and likes doing yard work in your yard and you let him for a period of time. You feel indebted and start to pay him for his services for a period of time. You run low on money and have to stop paying him for a period of time. The kid will stop mowing your lawn forever due to the introduction and removal of a reward.

I don’t disagree with OP, but this is the psychology of intrinsic and extrinsic rewarding.

Pre Leagues: Let’s say OP was always a moderate, consistent PvPer, playing 5-10 TPVP games a day. His motivation is intrinsic because he does it for his own fun and no real reward.

Post Leagues: Leagues introduces an extrinsic reward system, but the rewards are bunk ATM because it’s the first week of the system and the metric needs time to flush itself out or be re-evaluated. Adding a reward (or concept of rewards) and then removing this reward (or making it invalid) has changed OP’s motivation from intrinsic to extrinsic.

Instead of playing the 5-10 TPVP games per day he would normally play and just shrug off Leagues for the moment, he now wants to quit PVP.

This is a normal response of human psychology. I hope everyone can learn to recognize this, understand it, and be able to shrug off the kinks of the first days of implementation of an entirely new system.

Yes, we need to rework the pip system and its metrics. The house isn’t quite on fire just yet.
