Thanks, Geesus. We very well appreciate all the time that goes into all of this work on and off of the forums and especially the transparency in involving the players in feedback.
- Illusionary Avenger: Increased damage of this phantasm by 20%. Fixed a bug which prevented this skill from displaying the benefit from Empowered Illusions. Increased alacrity given to 2 seconds per hit. This phantasm no longer shoots a bouncing projectile but instead initiates a melee attack that slows enemies and gives alacrity to allies within a 240 radius around the target.
This may be great for stacking PvE encounters, but the 240 radius sounds quite small to make a mark on PvP and other more mobile encounters. Maybe 360 radius would fix it?
Also, does Illusionists Celerity (Reduce recharge on illusion-summoning skills, -20%) and Phantasmal Haste (Phantasms attack more often, +20%.) now work on Illusionary Avengers? Illusionists Celerity was definitely not working in BWE1, but I don’t recall testing it in BWE2. Most weren’t running the Illusions trait line so there wasn’t a lot of noise about it on the forums.
Death’s Charge
Many skills (Burning Speed Ele fire dagger 3, Heartseeker thief dagger 2, etc) can be shortened via use of the camera. Can we please reintroduce that into Death’s Charge (and Revenant staff FWIW)?
Many times the charge just over shoots the target and is clunky in melee. Can we not work it like Burning Speed to control our movement?
Champion Mistic (Mist theme… I tried)
Champion Cronacher
As a side note, is there any chance we can fit Stability into Herald? Stability in its post-nerfed state is not as strong as it used to be and the Dwarf “stability road” is clunky at best.
This transparency is so very appreciated. We all know you put a ton of time into the class itself and into your presence on the forum and how much time you spend on feedback.
All in all, there’s some great stuff here; however, we all scream to have either cooldowns or (more sensibly) energy costs removed on weapon skills, but you go and ADD cooldowns to utility skills?!!? What exactly is our class mechanic now?
I totally get spamming Jade Winds is possibly too strong, but you have to burn 100% energy to do so. We all know how long it takes to save up 100% that means no using skills while saving nor using skills after you burn it all. It’s quite risky. And other examples are similar. JW may be an exception where a CD is warranted, but adding CDs to so many skills just kicks our class mechanic in the face. Think of a thief with cool downs on weapon skills and initiative costs on utilities. Ugh.
The majority of the changes are favorable.
I am surprised so see Rolling Mists (Fury gives 40% crit instead of normal 20%) didn’t get any love, but with the Herald now pumping out fury, I suppose that may be the balance.
I’m sad to see the displacements removed. They were also class-defining and unique.
Devastation
In this specialization, I addressed an issue a lot of you brought up in feedback which I thought made a lot of sense. Basically you all said the profession stat buffs like empower are generally in master tier and ferocious strikes was just a weaker trait. So I went ahead and switched the position of both of these traits.
- Assassin’s Presence: This trait has been moved to master tier replacing the place of Ferocious Strikes.
- Ferocious Strikes: This trait has been moved to adept tier replacing the place of Assassin’s Presence.
I personally made a thread about this after BWE1 and it feels great to not only have my views heard, but taken into consideration. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one with this thought as well.
Can anyone ball park out 150 ferocity (Ferocious Strikes) on a zerk rev vs 10% attack speed (Rapid Lacerations) in terms of DPS? Does Rapid Laceration speed stack with quickness?
As a Rev who plans to spend a lot of time between Herald and Assassin stances with a mainhand sword, I’m very pleased I can provide my party-wide buff and still choose to have my assassin-defining mechanic of speed vs 150 personal ferocity.
Your work is much appreciated. I do hope you reconsider energy costs on weapon skills and cooldowns on utilities.

Can we get a title for having all profession champion titles?
Champion Unicum!
Fractal glider skin sounds awesome.
I’m also for a clear/invisible glider skin so it looks like my wings/jetpack work.
Development is like cooking chicken; it’s done when it’s done.
You can eat under cooked chicken, but it’s probably not going to go that well for you.

I had to delay this a day or two just to let my fanboy syndrome die down enough to make a valid review. I had a great time, of course.
West Verdant Brink:
- Trash mobs seem dumbed down since BWE1. People were getting wrecked by snipers and smoke scales in BWE1 and new trash isn’t even a comparison.
- Wyvren fight was great, but once you learn to avoid the aoes, there’s nothing to the fight. Reduce the time between the boss attacks. Much of the fight it’s just standing still.
- Break bars seemed a non issue. The bar was zerged down quickly and not much of an issue after that.
- That huge woman with the funny head seemed bugged. Didn’t attack.
- The Lord Faren chain was great, but we need more Tarzan. I’d love to see him develop over time, swing from vines and pick it up.
- Where are you jumping puzzle(s)?
- One mastery point wasn’t marked on map. I reported this in-game. Unless you have hidden points intentionally.. :o
- All in all, it had a lot of fun, but I was able to finish the entire west in one day-night cycle. I know we’re yet to see the biomes, but I’m concerned how much total content is on the table with 4 maps. I feel like they will have to add a few maps over time through the living story just to satisfy the hunger for content. Not everyone will want to wait around for raids when raids are a once-a-week item akin to missions.
Chrono – great class, alacrity seems a little on the low side, and I know they’re still balancing it along with slow. I hope they find the optimal ground. Mesmer has so many great traits spread so far across all lines. However, I thing Dom, Insp, Chrono will shine. I’ll miss you, triple mantra GM.
Revenant – feels great, however, I feel rev’s get a short end of the stick when compared to elementalists and engineers who are our comparable counterparts as far as class mechanics. Attunement swapping is seamless and kit swapping is even faster. Stance swapping has improved a ton, but is still lacking and we get stuck with only 2. If stances worked like attunements, revenants would still be balanced by energy costs—you can only do so much at a time while on paper it’s crazy. Energy costs on weapon skills need to go. I find myself spamming a lot of autos because my energy is tied up with utilities. Remove weapon CDs or energy costs.
Herald – is exactly what Revenant was missing. I would like to see protection replaced by stability on the elite skill. Stability is so nerfed right now in this current state and using the elite signet costs all your energy pips so you can’t do anything else. Stability road is too slow for active combat like WvW. I only found it useful on stomping people. Or put that aoe stability on the Dwarf elite skill. Throw protection on the heal signet and up the cost a bit. Regen is a joke in many cases.
Herald shield – Long cooldowns, slow reactions. The heal was nice, but on a what 30s CD? A little weak for my tastes and 2s protection isn’t all that exciting. The invuln is alright but has such a long CD and NEEDS to cast faster so you can use it as a reaction. I found myself using shield mainly to boost my boon duration, honestly. And it’s nice to finally run shield on something, though I thought and hoped we were using focus.
Reaper – felt great.
Daredevil – Great concept, needs a little work for playability. See all the other DD posts.
Bers war – didn’t really speak to my soul. Torch didn’t fit in well for me, even though it had a ton of damage on that skill, I found in general, other options worked better. Bers should have gotten dual wielding daggers so he can do with fast attacks and just pillage kitten up.
I’m optimistic and I know it will be worth it to me, but I’d like to see HOT as a great success so the community will support their new expansion-centered model.
About myself: PvXer, WvW, GvG, TPvP, FoTM, 8×80, etc
(edited by Gav.1425)
In no particular order:
WvW – new map, new mechanics. New map honestly looks like it can create a lot of new types of battles.
GvG – guild hall set up streamlines GvG and no longer limits you to fighting guilds only in your WvW match-up, nor is your guild only limited to those on your server. If it’s instance like PvP you can swap gear without any grind or expense.
PvP – PvP leagues is exactly what PvP needed. New F2P will boost PvP through the roof. Stronghold is actually fairly fun when you get a little team work going. Legendary PvP backpieces! And the map completion-esque name star for league rank. Can’t wait to have a piece of wood by my name for wood-league.
PvE – Masteries! Guild halls. Raids. FotM100 and the legendary frac backpiece. Gliding.
Characters – I’m a mesmer main who is doing to play him and the Rev, what could I not love about HoT when I’m going to get Chrono and Herald? Reaper was amazing fun as well, I just don’t know if/when I’d run him.
Yeah, so, I listed like 90% of the content, but that’s because this expansion is going to be awesome and that’s the benefit of being a PvX player. You get to enjoy it all. GW2 is like 3 games in one… 4 if you like playing the TP.
Dude, you’re going into the jungles of Mordremoth himself and you want to fight a dragon and his minions alone?
Did you not see what he did to the pact fleet? This isn’t a “hey, hold my beer” kind of moment.
With HOT on the way, it’s a good time to address the char screen.
If you have more than 6 chars, which many many players do, you have to use the annoying scroll system. Can we expand the number of chars on the screen to scale with resolution? Or make 2 (or more) rows. You can have up to 67 characters, but scrolling through it all is madness.
Also, maybe it’s time for a new HOT-themed backdrop? Eh? Ehh…!
Does the first door need to be open to port up to the first button?
ooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Is the only thing you have to do to unlock the elite spec is have the hero points? No quest chain thing? How are we earning our elite spec skins (new wepaon skins, rev armor, etc)?
I got to level 4 and 3 last BWE. If I have time, I’m sure I can get to 6 if I felt like grinding.
The only limiting factor is the lack of exp in Verdant Brink (as compared to dungeon running exp bonuses).
Use food, utility, fireworks, banners, boosters..
They have added and removed recipes before. Without notice.
This recipe was only added when players freaked out about ascended stats getting a slight boost even though all other stats (ie exotic) also received that boost… when stats were removed from trait lines and put into armor.
They could very well say that we’ve had plenty of time to adjust and then remove it.
Players get bored with content when they have no more goals left to complete. Give us good goals, challenging content, etc..
Imma test that new stuff. Daredevil, Reaper GS buffs, Herald…. new map…
New achievos! Masteries!
Sleep? What is sleep?
When HOT goes live, will this mystic forge recipe be removed? Would we get any heads-up notification if that was the case?
I have a bunch of chests waiting to see what stat sets I’ll need, and I’d be pretty crushed if the recipe vanished at launch. I know a lot of others in the same situation.
sinister is now viable

Originally, I thought rangers would lose their pet if they went druid and their F-skills would be shape shifting, but now I think Druid would work well with kit, like an engineer.
Smooth swapping through shape shifts with a feel like current kit engis enjoy now. New skills for each shift. All they have to do is change the name of Kits to Shifts and there are no runes for kits now anyways, so no issues with itemization.
It would add another high skill cap class with fast game play. The kind of stuff they’ve been moving towards since lunch (except for necros).
Could be nice if they allowed you to get a stacking bonus for continuing inside of fractals. From 51 onwards you only have 1 daily,, they could add in that you get an extra 5% of the base reward for a fractal shard if you continue on without returning to dessa’s lab. Then you’d have a reason to do a 95,96,etc.. and run a set of shards instead of 1-3 and done after 30mins.
People will just run a script so they don’t auto-log out and they can camp their fractal foreverz!
3/10 for the troll.
That said, you absolutely have the option to play a crappy build, but if you think your team should suffer through it, you’re foolish and selfish.
Ranging everything down is fine for newer players to learn the ropes, but I don’t see how anyone can enjoy sitting back and auto attacking content.
Challenge yourself, people. You might improve at the game you’re pumping hours into every night.
Does anyone have a comprehensive list/video of all mesmer blink/portal skips?
You can’t keep pulling the Sylvari-card every time some NPC offends you.
A TL/DR would be valuable here, but if you want the same rewards as people who do more difficult content, I think you’re flawed.
Content should span a broad range of difficulties, but rewards should reflect that range.
It took you 2 years and you don’t think it’s special? No one is saying that skins are skill-gated. They’re gated through effort and RNG. If it wasn’t intended to be that way, they would not have implemented it as such.
Considering there are almost no skill-gated rewards in this game, work-gated fractal skins is close to all you have.
You can argue for Champion and pvp-exclusive titles, llama mini pets, and tournament-earned finishers (ie. ToL), but those are probably going to be on sale in the gem store soon enough (tournament finishers already were) or available for some sort of token.
Skill isn’t incentivized as much as grind is here, and now they’re gutting the grind-based rewards at that.
Prestige sells in capitalism. Why do you think a lot of people trade 100s of currency to gems to trade for gold to buy legendaries with it? Or some super expensive Apple Watch in real life. The whole luxury good industry just works on the principle that people want things other people cannot have.
It is a psycholigical thing.
In GW2’s case everyone can grind or try to beat the RNG, but not everyone can be the most skilled person ever. And since Anet wants GW2 to be casual friendly we have to live with this kind of prestige.
I spent 200 bucks on gem store to get the remaining dreamthistle weapons I was missing BECAUSE I LIKE THEM, I LIKE HOW THEY LOOK. I LIKE WHEN MY CHARACTER LOOKS GOOD.
How hard is it for you to understand that not everyone is as petty as you, deriving enjoyment just from seeing things denied to others.
Capitalism isn’t about what others can’t have. You have a really twisted idea of human motivation and hierarchy.
Calm down with all the ad hominem personal attacks.
The point isn’t petty. These people have worked hard (3 years of grind) to obtain a reward. How do you not see giving that award away for 4 days of fractals per skin as a fair move?
I don’t know what you’re proud of in game, but I guarantee if it was given away for free, you’d have something to say about it. Giving me the dreamthistle collection for pristine relics isn’t nearly the same comparison and you’re right about it not making your DT weapons look any less thisly, but you’d be right to be kittened off.
Nothing about this is denying rewards to others. You’re just holding the line against making this a themepark MMO where everything can be bought with easy to obtain tokens, and making everyone do the same work the pioneers got to get it.
I’m going to ask an interesting question here – what if the expansion comes with mobs like the SW and DT ones – the kind that don’t really drop loot. What good is MF then?
I’m curious as to what you guys think because I don’t know if I should keep increasing it or give up.
Great point. Honestly, I wish they’d just let all mobs drop loot, but that leads to players farming mobs and ignore the objectives.
I’d say the compromise is finding another way to keep MF relevant, which they try to do through chest farm trains and those map buffs. Personally, I spend a lot of time in FOTM and WvW so I feel my MF (if it works at all
) has a fair bang for my buck.
Honestly, I still don’t understand how MF affects PvP. Better loot from the bags/chests? Eh??
Is say pushing players into using optimal food is the next logical progression of coaxing players into playing better.
For example, the difference between a party with no food and dps food/tuility is quite substantial.
The increased luck cap gives players with disposable income a money sink and drives the economy significantly, IMO.
The investment is so high and the return is so small, lower tier players won’t notice or complain about it, but it leaves a lengthy achievement possible for those who do care.
If i recall, it was 30k luck per 1% up to 300%. The grind to 400 could be 40k, 450 be 45k, and 500 be 50k per 1%.
As for those who say it’s wasteful, it’s our resources to waste, and if you have a really big need for dust, the luck is practically free.
The first magic find overhaul was a great move, but it was incomplete! Magic find was removed from gear to eliminate players who selfishly ran magic find over important stats to the detriment of their allies. It should be removed from food and infusions for the same reason—to incentivise players to use a better, less selfish option.
- Increase the magic find cap from luck in HOT from 300% to at least 500%.
- Add an achievement for progression through luck, and a title (“Lucky kitten!”)
- Let us craft legendary purple luck (500) out of the exotic orange luck (200).
My bank is so full of tacks of exotics, I can only imagine the clicking ahead of me when the cap is finally bumped up.
Many players have been sitting at the cap for quite a while and there are few things in game that truly feel like you gain a permanent long term boost from your investment. Luck is one of those things.
Thanks!
Illusionist’s Celerity doesn’t work with Echo of Memory (chrono shield 4 phantasm).
Can’t tell if Phantasmal Haste works either but it seems it does (further testing needed).
And I’m aware of the old bug that doesn’t show a reduced CD on phantasms until you use it for, but this is not the case.
Continuing the science!
^ I agree about the Shiro heal. You get away with it in PVE, but in PVP/WVW, you’ll get mauled. I say add 3-3.5k to the heal or, even better, reduce the cooldown to 20s ish and improve the effect so you have a chance to out heal a bit of the damage you’ll take.
A lower cooldown will synergize with fury-on-heal traiting as well with matches with fury enhancement with of course benefits all of our traited ferocity… This is the synergies you guys wanted and touted so much in the POI talks.
Great stuff so far.
Can we talk about energy management? Energy and cool downs on weapons still needs to change.
This trait needs to make Fury total 50% crit chance total (trait+fury) to be strong enough for a grand master.
Ie, with the trait, if you have 50% crit chance, fury should take you to 100%.
Rage is better. Revenant gets +10% crit rate and +7% damage from traits under fury, plus the normal 20% from the boon and 7% from the rune. 25 might is easier to achieve and mantain, expecially in pve and wvw, so you’re comparing a 5% with a 42% damage increase (factoring only 100% crit damage).
It’s math.Price doesn’t really matter, since Revenant is the first class that gets so much boost from fury.
Also in group play both are outshadowed by scholar runes.
First, trait is +30% crit rate (not +10%). (20% from Fury + 30% additional from GM trait). I’m not sure if did math or just did the napkin version and compared Fury/Ferocity against Might/Power only without other boons and total boon uptime.
I’d like it if there was an actual Rune alternative.
As confirmed by Roy, the trait gives 50% of the usual + 20%, so it’s 30% total (20+10). He also sait it may be buffed. Description is misleading
Yeah, I’m looking at buffing it because 10% crit for a GM trait is a bit weak. Might try making fury 100% better so it’d give 20% extra crit.
Revenants may get some access to swiftness.
When it’s ready™
Unless this was changed since the last rev beta, I tested it and I had 40% crit chance and after trait + fury, it went to 90% (aka +50%). So I took that as Fury 20% + trait 30%.
I don’t get how people are saying the trait gives 10%?
Missed mine cuz reasons and now I want yours! Please invite! Will even use voice coms and mesmer things.
Ty!
Giving pvp dragon rank to everyone completely spit in the face of every player who did the pvp grind past 50.
There was a time when a shark or phoenix finisher gathered a crowd. No one even had dragon yet… and now dragon is a trash can finisher available to anyone who PvPs for over a month.
They completely made PvP ranks worthless and caused many avid PvPers to feel jaded and many of them left the game over this.
How about we don’t do that with fractals?
I caught the first few min of MMO INKS on one of Teapot’s long-kitten videos and he said you could buy skins with 20 pristine in HOT. I don’t know if anyone can verify his or any source on this, but it brings up the discussion on how many pristines should a skin be worth?
Honestly, if it’s anything less than 100 pristine, I will flip my kitten and I know many players who feel the same way. If you disagree, think about how cool your weapon will be when every one has them all across Tyria. If you don’t get your desired weapon in the time you can farm 100 or 250 pristine, sure, buy it off the NPC, but don’t devalue the achievement of having our skins like this.
So, how many pristines should a skin be worth?
Personally, I say anything less than 100 is spitting in the face of all those who busted kitten to complete the set. just because content has been out for a while doesn’t mean you should give it out for free to anyone who runs a few dailies.
There was a time when PvP ranks weren’t worthless and seeing a shark or phoenix finisher would gather a crowd. It felt awesome to stomp a bunch of people in WvW and have pages of tells asking me how I got a shark or phoenix finisher. No one even had a dragon at the time. Now dragon finishers are trash and anyone who PvPs for over a month has it. That small change had many turn their backs on GW2 achievements and even the game all together. Don’t Obama all your good content.
I say 250.
In closing, don’t give me some crap about how normal frac skins could be for the casual fractal majority and how we should go chase the ghetto rap star golden re-skinned ones if we want to be extreme. If they add at least primary color options on the new skins, then we’ll talk (ie. New gold skin + blue token = Blue fractal skin in MF).
@OP, or you could just get better at the game.
