Since when did GW2 become a Hardcore MMO?

Glass Hand.7306

I’m not a hard core player. While I play a good number of hours per week, I’m also a senior citizen and the days when I had the reflexes for twitch gaming are in the past.

I find Fractals to be a lot more ‘hard core’ than HoT. I’ve played all the new metas successfully including TD. I would not nerf it one bit.

Raids though – I know that ArenaNet is trying to expand the market for the game. I’m not sure this is going to work. It may end up creating two incompatible groups of players in the game causing the community to become less friendly.

Triple Trouble Is Incredibly Frustrating

I don’t think this event is a problem. The guilds have worked out the details and do a good job of supplying the expertise on how to defeat the worm.

It is true however that you have no chance without this organization. I don’t think that’s a bad thing though. It is a social game after all.

Chak Gerant just takes this to a bit higher level. But the fact is that people are beating it.

It’s a big rush when you beat something like Chak Gerant. I’d hate for it to get nerfed and lose that feeling of accomplishment.

Went to do an Adventure in Auric Basin. Went to ‘The Floor is Lava’. Told that I have to participate in the defense of Tarir, so I did that. When the defense was done I spent some time collecting loot.

Then the map closed due to lack of population, I presume. Went back to ‘The Floor is Lava’. Told I had to participate in the defense of Tarir.

Um this is unreasonable behavior. When a map closes on you, you should not lose whatever status needed to continue.

What's up with rep requirements?

I think a lot of guilds with 100% repping requirements are doing it out of sheer inertia. Over time the practice will die out.

so how do you farm silverwaste shovels?

No, the shovels are not rare. Doing the Silverwastes meta should net you 5 at least. Plus you will get a lot of exp for Masteries.

[Suggestion] Make Scribing Guild Bound

Glass Hand.7306

Yes please. The idea of the guild scribe deciding to change guilds, leave the guild or even leave the game could be a big issue. I could even see a highly leveled scribe start to try to extort the rest of the guild.

The leveling rank should be a guild property. The experience though should belong to the scribe – they are doing the actual work so they should get some benefit too.

Triple Trouble Achievment Question

Glass Hand.7306

In the Triple Trouble Achievement panel the master achievement states that you get 50 AP and a MP for completing ten subtasks in the panel.

However I’ve completed 7 of these tasks and the tracker says I’m only 60% done.

Something here is kinda bugged.

Quartz Crystals Price hike

Glass Hand.7306

One thing that is unusual about these nodes is that they can only be harvested once per day per ACCOUNT which is unlike most other standard nodes. Plus the one rich node is behind an event gate. When I really need something I typically send multiple alts after it. For example I rotate through 5-6 alts at the flax farm.

Nope, that doesn’t work with Quartz.

Removing that restriction would help a lot.

Do you regret pre-purchasing HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Glass Hand.7306

I’m enjoying the new content quite a bit, and feel there is enough new stuff to explore for quite a while. So I’m not regretting my purchase at all.

Having said that I think there are balance issues. Hopefully that will get sorted.

All this complaint about gating and grind – my opinion is some of that is in the nature of MMOs. The question is again what is the amount that will work best for the most people. Already Anet has nerfed the HP requirement for elites, so it’s obvious they are paying attention to feedback.

So what IS the point of precursor crafting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Glass Hand.7306

Glass Hand.7306

It seems to me that the major attraction of Legendaries is the skins. For example that purple color you get when you paste the weapon name into Guild chat to awe your friends is really a text skin, or the elaborate animation in-game is a graphical skin.

The rest isn’t that big a deal. Yes ascended weapons are not easy to craft, but it is certainly doable to have more than one. And to be honest it’s preferable because you can have different upgrades and weapon types which give you a bigger selection of behaviors than a single Legendary with swappable stats does.

You need charged quartz for a lot more than just celestial gear. The (arbitrary, unexplained) time gate is, IMO, a problem.

re: Enchanted Map Scraps – These are not governed by RNG. You get the same one from the same type of chest. Loot chests from different regions.(even open world chests drop them) The wiki is your friend:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Enchanted_Treasure_Map

It says right in the Wiki article you pointed to:

“Scraps randomly drop from open world and jumping puzzle chests, with those in specific regions being more likely to drop certain scraps”

How you think something is going to drop randomly without RNG involvement is beyond me.

I believe Elden means that the TYPE of scrap a chest can give is fixed rather than random.

Possibly the original respondent meant that. However that’s not what the wiki article he cited as support for his idea says.

Once again, with different emphasis:

“Scraps randomly drop from open world and jumping puzzle chests, with those in specific regions being more likely to drop certain scraps”

More likely in this sentence clearly means that one should expect a random process with probabilities weighted to favor a certain scrap type with the weight of a scrap type depending on location. In other words you could get any scrap in any location, with it being more likely that it would be the type listed in the table. Not certainly.

More likely is a clear indication that this is a probabilistic process, which would generally involve some sort of random number generation.

Otherwise there is no reason than just plain error on the part of the wiki author to include the more likely in the description.

If RNG was not a factor in this process the description should read something like this:

“Scraps drop from open world and jumping puzzle chests, with those in specific regions dropping certain scraps”

In other words no reference to ’likelihood" or “randomly”.

The thing is that it’s predictable, unlike a lot of things that are governed by the RNG, so you can plan for it.

If you were complaining about something that was RNG governed I’d be a lot more sympathetic. For example the Enchanted Map scraps. I’ve gotten 3 of them, all number 2. In a year and a half of playing. As far as I can tell I will never ever be able to complete this map.

Likewise the stuff in Black Lion Chests. I just don’t buy keys any more. I will never get the 5 ticket scraps I need for a nice skin.

Etc.

I get everything but 2. What chests are you opening for them?

The one I had recently was Reaper’s Corridor in Diessa Plateau. The others were a while back so I don’t remember.

The Going for Gold Achievement in SW that rewards a Mastery point is also bugged. Collected the 30 lost gold badges but only got credit for 8. Drat! I wanted that mastery point! lol

I’ve noticed this as well. I have been working on this achievement off and on for a while, When I went back into it after HOT I noticed I no longer have credit for some of the badges I previously completed.

Seriously along with the recent problem with Runes you folks should take a really close look at this. The integrity of the items database is really crucial to the game.

lets talk: Inventory

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I am pretty happy with my inventory. It would be nice if the tab upgrades were less expensive, but in the end I have plenty of space in my characters.

The recent changes to make some things like bandit crests part of the wallet was a huge help.

What I don’t think is as adaquate is the the bank tab limit. You have people doing all sorts of things to get around that.

If anything I’d like to see some more slots in the materials section of the bank. It’s kittened that lots of materials used for crafting in the game don’t have slots.

About the hero Points.....

Glass Hand.7306

Since the point total required was nerfed from 400 to 250 the answer to than is no. The only thing that’s a little bit of a hurdle is that a lot of the HPs in HoT are not soloable. but do it when there are people around and it’s not particularly hard to get to 250.

WvW will also generate HP if you play that. Theoretically those are soulbound but it you don’t open the chests until they are in the inventory of the character you want to upgrade you can get them where you want them to be.

She was 6’2" and weighed 230 lb. Set the US record in the shotput at age 15. Benched more than anyone on the men’s football team in college.

When I met he she had already been a two time member of the US Track and Field Olympic Team. She ended up doing that twice more.

Yes women on average are weaker than men. But there are always people that are not average.

So you please keep your kittened stereotypes to yourself.

I don’t really have a problem with this. There are multiple sources of quartz crystal in the game, TP, Dry Top and a node for your home. If you decide that you want this armor and get all kittened about the time gating, well it’s going to take a while to accumulate the rest of the mats anyway.

I have noticed the price of crystals going up recently. Possibly because of Guild Halls.

What I am annoyed with is the difficulty of getting Mastery Points in Tyria. But that’s a different posting…

I like old Lion’s Arch much better personally. Problem with new Lion’s Arch is it’s too sterile with too many smooth clean lines and lots of white whereas old Lion’s Arch had lots of wood, dirt streets

Yes I agree with this. It feels too much like Southsun which is the map I like least in the game.

central Tyria mastery points (non-HOT)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Glass Hand.7306

Glass Hand.7306

I agree with this sentiment. When I logged into GW2 for the first time after the update I had 27 mastery points. Enough to do the Pact Commander track and a few left over for the low level Fractal and Legendary tracks.

So I looked at ways to get the last 22. You know what? Except for TT there wasn’t a single one that I was interested in doing. Collections of spoons? Completing rare collections? I mean I’ve been playing a lot and I still only have two of the map fragments for the Treasures Collection. The amazingly tedious Golden Badges (really 30 jumping puzzles from easy to really hard) for ONE Mastery Point? Come on now. Some of those Badges should give a Mastery Point on their own.

Simply there is a tremendous disparity between the amount of work to get these Mastery Points in Tyria and in HoT. In HoT you get Mastery Points from completing events. They practically fall into your lap just from completing events. In many cases all you have to do is go to a certain location.

Ultimately GW2 is billed as ‘play it your way’. I think the way Mastery Points are structured in Central Tyria could use some work.

How is 3/5 people to kick still in the game?

Glass Hand.7306

Like Xetu I find 2/5 to be a problem. Many times I’ve taxied in folks and then gotten kicked out of the party I created as a reward. Very annoying when that happens. 3/5 would really reduce the rate of that occurring.

Why do some wings come without glider skin?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Glass Hand.7306

Glass Hand.7306

Well people in wing suits glide, so the GW2 wings are plenty large enough to give some gliding motion. What is not exactly realistic is the speed and angle of attack.

Of course this is a magical realm where other physics are pretty weird too, like the ability to change direction mid-jump without doing something like firing off a hand rocket mid-air, so I think GW2 wings are actually much more realistic than some of the other things that happen in this game.

No impact on frame rate either. Loading seems smoother also. I haven’t timed it but there seems to be less disk activity.

Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Glass Hand.7306

Glass Hand.7306

I consider myself a higher end casual player. Maybe 10 – 15 hours per week on GW2. Have been playing on and off since the game was released. Took a long break after Southsun because I was so disappointed with the content of that release. Came back about 6 months ago. I do WvW for about 3 hours a week to get dailies. Fractals rarely and PVP never. 80% of the time I’m in PvE.

Like many others I really like the expansion. Mastery was really well done and having it account wide works very well. The new maps are great. Gliding is a lot of fun. Yes the new maps are challenging, but I don’t have a problem with that. There is lots of other content that is less so and a game should have areas that are challenging.

However there is one aspect that like a lot of people has me disappointed. That is the Elite Specializations. For someone who is not a total GW addict the requirement of 400 HP per character plus the structure of the new HP is totally outrageous.

I have a character for each profession. One has world completion, three others are level 80, and the rest are mostly just crafters or bagholders. I would like to have all my level 80s get Elite specializations so I can play all of their aspects which is after all what I paid for when I bought the expansion. I don’t NOT see how that is going to happen in any reasonable period of time. Even the character with world completion is a good way short from completing his Elite Specialization. Furthermore do so is quite difficult because the hero points in Maguuma are either gated or impossible to solo. Getting together a group to take on a HP is utterly impractical.

Seriously I think a character with World Completion should NOT have to grind for HP in the new maps. For WC you already have had to grind in a major way.

Taking multiple characters through the grind to get Elite Specialization the way it is structured now is totally unreasonable for someone who has to work for a living. I view it as a barrier high enough that if it isn’t changed it is an incentive for me to look at other games.

Something needs to be changed with HP requirements for Elite Specializations. Nerfing the Champs behind HP in the new maps. Some other prolific source of HP. Reducing the requirements so that old fashioned World Completion is enough.

Come on Anet. Use your imagination. This process should be fun and draw players in, like masteries does. A Long March repeating content many times across multiple characters is not fun. It becomes a chore that drives people away.

Mordrem Invasion Update: 11 September 12:30 PM

Glass Hand.7306

To me the biggest complaint is simply the disconnects. I don’t have much in the way of lag problems, and well the event design has flaws but I’ve seen worse. There was a rewards bug but you have made a commitment to correct that problem.

The disconnects (I have had 4 today) are the worst. It speaks of something that simply has not undergone an adequate software QC process. Something you just cannot have in a limited time event like this. It is absolutely enraging to have a good stack disappear and when logging back in find yourself in a sparsely populated overflow instance knowing you either have to work twice as hard to recover the loss.

Four disconnects in one day equals the total disconnects I’ve had in the previous play I’ve had in this game, some 1500 hours or so. It is really that bad.

The thing that makes it REALLY annoying is the instability of the event. I’ve lost several runs because of game crashes/disconnects which I don’t get in normal content. Add in the fact that the design of the event is so kittened that it’s all or nothing. Leave the map for any reason and you don’t get any credit for your progress.

You may think you have a chance at 450, but the disconnects make the idea of taking that road very discouraging.

Vinewrath Tracking Debuff Lasts Too Long?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Glass Hand.7306

Glass Hand.7306

My understanding is that the VW debuff is supposed to prevent you from changing lanes during the VW event and fighting again after you defeat one of the champions.

It seems to do that ok.

However there seems to be an unintended consequence in the following situation that I’ve experienced a few of times now playing from the south lane.

1. First battle vs Beekeeper ends in success.
2. Middle path fails vs Thrasher
3. North then succeeds.

Recycle back to south. The siege machine breaks open the path to the VW. I try to run in and OOPS I still have 1 min and 20 seconds left on my debuff and get bounced out. By the time the debuff expires too late, the wall is back up. I can also see half a dozen other players hanging around the wall obviously in the same situation.

This DOESN’T seem like reasonable behavior to me.
