Yes, it is a fair amount of work to support name changes in something like this. For example just consider the error handling and vetting – making sure that the new name is not pornographic. Who gets to change the name? Do we need a renaming privilege? Of course the new proposed name has to be validated as ‘unique’. Does unique include upper and lower case variants? What happens if there is a type? Supposed there is a dc during the process. Is the name stored in multiple persistent systems? Suppose two people are trying to change the name at the same time? Once the name is changed when does the old name become available for others to use?
And so on and on.
The previous project manager? Um clearly I would not want to work for a person like this. Totally unrealistic over-simplistic view of what a software change entails in something the scale of an MMO with millions of accounts.
How do you turn off the logging of receiving harvested items? it’s completely flooding my chat window making it useless.
Looks like a rollback occurred. I lost WVW progress and some loot.
Oh, get this: today, there are two empty slots in the Gem Store.
While they are adding the Pass how much more difficult would it be to add the Permanent Bank Access Express to the other slot?
Considering the Permanent Bank Access Express has never been sold though the gem store directly (it’s only ever come from Black Lion Chests) and is currently selling for about 3,000 gold on the TP I think that would be extremely controversial.
They’d have to make it insanely expensive to match the gold price and the approximate cost of getting one from a chest, which would anger a lot of people who want one. But if they made it cheaper it’d anger all the people who bought one or got one to sell it.
It certainly doesn’t need to match the current gold price which is clearly the result of market manipulation and extreme rarity, that is when the shared slot was purchased within minutes the TP was stripped all 22 of BAEs available by speculators who are re-offering it at unreasonable prices. Breaking that insane price is one clear reason to introduce this as a Gem Store item.
Another option would be to significantly increase the BLC drop rate so that the supply will drive the price down. It might also stimulate sale of BLC keys.
In any case it is absolutely ridiculous to have 22 of these available in a system that supports millions of users many of whom have shared inventory slots.
Supposedly part of the work on this game is to balance the economy. BAEs are a very clear example of something that is completely out of balance. The price is nowhere near any realistic assessment of the value of this item.

There is no way posting in any forum should be a job requirement for a developer. That’s the job of the marketing department or management.
I am a developer. If I was working for Anet and allowed to post if I wanted to I’d post on Reddit. This forum is lousy from several points of view. Including the hostility here. Reddit is a different kind of community that is historically friendly to developers. It is also community moderated meaning blatantly off-topic rants like the early WVW tirade in this thread get modded by the community to oblivion.
Reddit is friendly to developers. This forum is not. If people here want developers to post here they need to treat developers better.
It won’t happen. So get used to reading Reddit.
Or just buy the rare weapons which have a 100% salvage rate. Most are going for 7.5 gold. Considering that you get an ascended weapon in the end, it’s not a big deal.
Ascended? I thought these were Exotic?
Yes, it would be nice for Anet to give partial refund to all players in this situation, like getting something back for selling a used printer on eBay. But from a business perspective, they are certainly not obliged to do so.
Interesting point. When you buy a printer or similar item you have a physical thing that you can resell or gift when you are done. The account bound nature of these Gem Strore items precludes that. Here you are buying stuff that has zero resale potential.
Something to keep in mind when evaluating potential future purchases. The apparently perpetual utility can turn out to be an illusion.
HoT is filled with carnival mini-games called adventures, that are not optional content due to Mastery Points, Achievements and Collections being dependent on them.
This is my number one pet peeve with the expansion, by a wide margin. My intent when purchasing HoT was to get an upgrade of an MMORPG, not a collection of mini-games with themes reminiscent of 20th century console games.
These are not possible to play as a group. They have no relationship whatsoever with the rest of the Tyria story, they are gated through in long event cycles making access a pain in the neck, and they gate Mastery, Achievement and Collection content that is a major part of the expansion content.
Absolutely HORRIBLE.
The effort that went into these should have been spent on the rest of the game. Maybe another map. Or fixing up WVW. Or more new legendaries.
The stuff gated by these Adventures needs to be moved elsewhere.
Revanent sword and hammer-2 are getting nerfed so I’d be skeptical that it is as good a choice as warrior.
Avoiding the TP would have likely resulted in you getting scammed with no recourse to support at all.
Other cases of things like this are generally resolved if you are persistent enough. I would recommend writing clear calm (not the angry tone so often seen here) letters to support. Persistence is the key word.
What should have happened is at least that you got your slivers back after losing the gold.
There were plenty of actions that could have been taken against the buyer up to and including outright banning.
(edited by Glass Hand.7306)
I bought this thinking it was a bag and not just one slot. I am such a fool for spending an ungoldy amount for one measly slot. This is by far the biggest scam I have fallen for in this game.
How do you get the idea it is a bag slot from the description “Each character is allowed to share one non-bag item”? Unless of course you didn’t actually read the description.
It may be overpriced, but clearly it is not a scam.
This sounds like a lot of fun.
Hope they add a sprinkling of Tyria Mastery points to this, say about 4 like Triple Trouble has.
This type of item increases in value to the user with the number of character slots they have, and how often they play various characters. I have 11 slots so it’s pretty obvious that I’d be a prime customer. Even more compelling is that I don’t have a lot of duplicate luxury items. Three copper fed salvagers is it. So even at 700 gems a pop this represents a significant QOL improvement over what was available for the money a couple of days ago. Of course it would be even better if it was less expensive, but for me this is a sweet deal.
What this also does is drastically increase the value of additional items like the airship pass (which I will likely buy when I get around to it). Prior to the introduction of this I was not considering something like this.
I hope that Anet realizes that this also makes purchase of the permanent bank access a lot more attractive and offers these through the gem store. The current Black Lion Chest supply of these is ridiculously thin, and not worth going for by purchase of BLC keys or the trading post.
If Anet is smart they will take advantage of the opportunity they created and offer the Permanent Bank Access through the gem store. It’s pretty obvious it would sell like hotcakes if the price was similar to other luxury items. It would also have IMHO a desirable effect in crashing out some speculators obviously using inside information to make a profit.
I would like to see GW2 get rid of locking mastery and legendary progression behind Adventures. One should be able to complete this stuff from PVE and Fractals. Adventures are a miserable experience and not are not part of the MMO meme.
There should be a way to use fractal currencies in lieu of Dungeon tokens. It is getting pretty difficult to get dungeon groups together, and many Legendaries require dungeon tokens.
lets say i am too. say they have a map or set of arrays or something similar. it was designed with a certain set of items w/in it. such as, open, destroy, sell on tp, whatever else.
what they didn’t include in that structure was an item for consume all. so, rather than rebuild that structure, they are hardcoding the specific ones that need it.
whats my basis? consume all didn’t exists for 3 years on any items, not that i can recall, and the ones that have it now seem pretty specific and it seems missing from some items that could easily use it
There are a whole lot of different ways to design something like this. What you describe is one of the possible scenarios. I would hope a professional programmer would know several and pick one that he had good experience with in a past project.
Now suppose their engineer hacked the menu code in the manner you suggest. I use the word ‘hack’ intentionally because it is a hack for the 3-4 items involved. However there is nothing that would prevent the same engineer from removing that hack and extending the original framework to provide a service that would work in a general fashion for the applicable items.
There is no need to go in and write code for each and every item. OR to have a gosh darn vendor for each type of item like snowflakes.
MAYBE you would need some code for each item TYPE to define what Consume All actually does, but that’s it. That process of adding supported item types could be gradual too. Start with snowflakes and slivers, and then go on to stacks of bags, then other items as time permits.
This is not a major project and it would make the game noticeably more friendly to users.
And yes after this fix the kittening idea of having to do hundreds of Mystic Fountain iterations. My guildmates have been complaining about this in our guild chat. This kind of stuff is thoughtless. It really makes the game actually physically punishing to play.
(edited by Glass Hand.7306)
chances are they just didn’t think it thru enough when they 1st created the structure of items and how they will be used/double clicked.
since they didn’t include it from the beginning, they have to go in and add the functionality to every item that needs consume all, 1 by 1.
I am a software engineer. What you are claiming is that EVERY STINKING ITEM in the game has its own menu generation code. I think the likelihood of that is slightly less than my chances of winning the Powerball lottery.
A token to roll back spent Mastery Points. Some of the masteries have a fairly weak benefit and like many I’d rather have spent my points on something else. And I’d much rather not have to mess with things like Adventures to get the masteries that I’d rather have.
I have a bit of carpal tunnel syndrome or arthritis in my wrists (not sure which) so that I have to be careful how much repetitive use I get with video games.
One of the things I noticed with GW2 is the addition of Consume All for Essence of Luck items.
This simple QOL addition was much appreciated. My wrists thank you!
However I’d like to see this menu choice availability become more widely available, in particular with all the items that start out with tiny bits that have to be agglomerated into larger bits – tiny snowflakes, Mordrem and Evergreen slivers etc.
Going through stacks of hundreds of these to refine them is actually physically painful to me.
A little thought about the ergonomics of these design decisions would make this game more playable for people with issues like mine.
Player “asked” for the leather change. Especially from players playing mage class.
Players keep complaining why leather is so cheap and silk is so expensive.
1. There is no mage class unless it is in some version of GW2 not sold where I live. Maybe you are thinking of Mesmer? By the way did you know there was actually a guy named Mesmer (a con man by the name of Franz Mesmer)?
2. Yes we asked for a change in thick leather because the price was too low, and a reduction in the price of silk because it was too high.
The adjustment in silk price worked well in my opinion. The adjustment in thick leather was totally botched. Instead of just the price of thick leather going up we ended up with a sharp rise in ALL leather prices and a huge increase in the cost of ascended crafting because not only did the price increase but we also need twice as much. Given the mechanic of how leather is harvested in this game it’s complete bullkitten. It needs to be fixed.
(edited by Glass Hand.7306)
In my mind the main problem is the DRASTIC increase in leather requirements from the change from Damask to Damask Patches in insignia. This led to a more than DOUBLING of leather requirements over the set of 18 ascended armor pieces. AND it’s even worse than that because the bump in demand for leather has caused prices to increase as well, meaning the cost of leather for armor has more than doubled in HoT.
FURTHERMORE lower level leather is the one thing that is very difficult for a lvl 80 char to obtain. There are no nodes, racks or piles. This makes the supply very inelastic – a price increase doesn’t result in much of a supply increase.
This really needs to be changed. It has really completely unbalanced this aspect of the game.
I’ve had great luck with EVOS led TT events. About an 80% success rate let me get all the TT achievements including the 4 masteries and Great Jungle Wurm Slayer.
I wish we had more content like that rather than the kittening adventures and 2 hour event chains in HoT.
Anyway thanks EVOS. You have an awesome Guild.
Game lacks a lot,and that proves 4.900.000 players lose since release.
Game had 8 mil subs at the release(at least they said so,but i am sure they lied)
Game has 3,1 mil players now.
In 3 years,losing 5 mil players,clearly yells TIME FOR A CHANGE.
Guild Wars 2 had ZERO subs at release. It isn’t a subscription based game.
As far as 8 million sales on launch, I don’t see how that is possible since ArenaNet recently announced they had 7 million accounts in 2015 pre HOT. That 7 million is the number of players who logged in at least once since accounts are not deleted. Since that includes f2p it’s obvious that total sales over the life of the game (or at launch) is far less than 8 million.

It would be interesting to see what retention in other games have 3 years after release before we start moaning that the game is dying.
Level up a Guild Hall
The amazing Toxic Bacon HP
Your idea is pretty good, it would bring GW2 back closer to the play it the way you want idea.
(edited by Glass Hand.7306)
I’d much rather ANET fix their economy.
Sounds great. I’d love that too. And while I’m waiting (and while you’re waiting) for them to do something that makes the mats you want drop when you want or for them to remove the mats they recently added to damask, I’ll be opening up containers on my level60 and salvaging and selling those mats to you, and making pretty good gold too. [/quote]
Is that really what you enjoy in game play?
They are, you open the TP and buy them,
This really comes back around to the supply and demand, the demand is higher at the moment due to the raids changing the armor etc, once the hype dies down the demand will die down with it, and the prices will drop.
Don’t be facetious. I am complaining about the process of buying these mats off the TP being broken because the supply and demand balance isn’t working properly.
An economist would tell tell you that the supply should increase to counter the effect of the increased demand increasing the prices. Unfortunately the supply in GW2 appears inelastic – increasing price is not leading to increasing supply at a reasonable rate because of the game mechanic of making it basically impossible for a 80 char to obtain this stuff. People rightly resist workarounds like buying char slots, creating weak, slow and ugly low level chars and playing them on a routine basis to collect low level mats in simplistic low level zones when they have climbed the long hill to level to Scrappers, Heralds and Chronomancers with attractive gear and interesting play.
The addition of Raids may be one part of the problem, and it may decline with time as people gear for it. Personally I doubt that it’s the main issue. Other mats haven’t exploded in price the way leather has. Armor can be changed pretty cheaply without using much in mats.
The addition of Damask Patches has more than doubled the amount of leather in a full set of armor (18 pieces). That is not going to ameliorate with time unless ANET makes a change. This doubling of the quantity of leather needed combined with an explosion in the price of leather is obviously an issue.
The situation with leather is much worse than that of soft wood planks which were recently adjust to require 2 logs instead of 3. Any level char can harvest soft wood, and the amount of soft wood needed for ascended gear wasn’t increased the way leather was.
Yes. An char of the right level is a work around. However it’s also useful to have a spare char to act as a storage mule. For 800 gems and buying the bags you get up to 100 storage slots for items you don’t use on a daily basis, which is a better deal than buying a 30 slot bank tab. Park it at a jumping puzzle for a daily harvest and jump to pvp or wvw once daily and you have storage and access to the level mats you want.
I’d much rather ANET fix their economy.
I was afraid that these were the choices available.
Seriously this is a huge annoyance.
ANET, please go back to using just Damask for things like insignia. At least I can buy a cloth rack and covert karma to linen to relieve some of the pressure here.
For lower tier leather there are simply no reasonable ways to take the pressure off. It is really a serious issue with the balance of the game.
The price has gotten obscene. Nearly 7s. And you need 600 scraps for an ascended insignia.
I think the introduction of Damask patches was the one of the worst things for players with the HoT expansion.
Any hints on how to acquire this stuff without swiping a credit card?
We need more stuff like the Orphan event. Possible to do in a reasonable period of time and results in a permanent positive impact to your account’s cash flow.
You have to complete all the pre-meta events for the lane that you want achievement for. Then stay in the map, defend that lane and kill the gerent for that lane. Best start right after a meta completes.
Are you speaking from experience post-patch or quoting another source?
(I wouldn’t be surprised if you were right though, I believe there’s an achieve for defending a post in VB that you have to be there the whole night cycle for. I haven’t done that one, nor do I plan on it. I also don’t plan on sitting in TD for two hours for each lane achieve.)
I have done all four lane defender achievements to grub for the mastery points. It is true that you have to participate and be successful for each of the sub events to get the cheevo. Fortunately you don’t have to do each of the sub events on the same meta cycle. If you miss one you only have to go back for that one.
Mostly I go to this extent to avoid the kittening Adventures as much as possible. I hate those things. Bleech.
No it is not fixed. I got dumped out of a DS instance that I had been in since opening just this morning. We were running in the North Tower and boom loading screen and new instance. No warning, no few player dialog. Lost over an hour of work.
Man you should have seen the bad words in the map chat.
So I am in the middle of the Dragon Stand meta, one hour and ten minutes precisely running in a circle in the North tower.
BOOM loading screen and I’m on a different, completely unpopulated map with no progress.
Um this is extremely aggravating. All the progress on the map gone. No chance at the map progress, completion rewards and of course no chance at the pods afterwards.
This is an atrocious bug and needs to be fixed ASAP. The people caught up in this should be compensated too.
At least give us a way to convert currencies. These days getting something like Gift of Ascalon is close to impossible.
WVW tokens for Tears for example.
Adventures will have been designed to offer some challenge but still be doable by a large portion of the player base – you might just be in the bottom % and so will struggle (you could improve with practice though).
Never assume that because something is challenging for you that it will be automaticly be challenging for others, the game needs to contain challenges to be engaging for the majority of the player base.
I have no problem with challenging content. However this is sophomoric challenging content irrelevant to the rest of the game story that gates important meta content.
Bad idea. Never should have been put into the game. Should be ripped out ASAP.
Adventures are a TERRIBLE thing to gate so much content behind. Masteries? Collections? HORRIBLE.
Plus the Adventures themselves are gated by the map event cycle so you may get kicked out trying to do them. OH THE INSANITY.
I tried a couple of them and they were laughable quality. If I want something like that I’ll fire up one of my old consoles. At least the games there are playable at any time.
Currently my plan is to avoid them like the plague. Many of the end masteries are not worth much if anything anyway, and certainly not worth the pain of playing these two-bit games. I suppose if I decide there is some collection I really really want I might try one. But I doubt it.
The developer time that went into these should have been spent elsewhere. These are NOT what I bought HoT for.
WORST PART OF THE EXPANSION, in my opinion. Should be refactored out and the effort put into some other part of the game, say WVW which can be really fun.
The HoT masteries are even worse. Itzel Leadership gives you access to a fight and chest(once a day) that was apparently designed to demonstrate how to completely screw up the effort to reward ratio. I expect Exalted Purification and Nuhoch Proving to the be same. 3 worthless masteries gating slightly more useful ones.
I was shocked how pathetic the Exalted Purification chest was. I’m putting the last two Itzel track masteries at the bottom of my to-do list.
How is Nuhoch Alchemy? Worthwhile?
The one I’ve had is two people join a taxi I create, and then kick me stealing the party I created. That is unbelievably rude.
In general it seems to me that the Tyria mastery points are harder than the HoT ones. I don’t think that makes sense because this is supposed to be the lower level part of the game.
Queen Skrit isn’t too bad because there is a big demand for her shiny loot for upgrading Guild Halls. Most Dry Top sandstorms are getting pushed to T4 these days. I’m even farming that event cycle. The cycle is on a clock so just set an alarm and pop in when it’s time for her to open the door 10 minutes after the sandstorm starts.
The Golden Badges though are one of the most PITA accomplishments in the game. HATE YOU ARENANET for this one.
I’ve been able to collect enough points to finish the Pact Commander for autoloot and get the other two lines to the last mastery so at least I can fill all the experience bars. When I’ll have the points to activate them I have no idea as I’m mostly focusing on HoT content now.
(edited by Glass Hand.7306)
One of the biggest problems I have with the game right now is the dead dungeons. There are a lot of small things like tokens that are needed for legendaries and there is a Mastery Point tied to dungeons.
Anet has stated that they are discouraging people from doing dungeons by nerfing liquid rewards. I don’t have a problem with that. What I do have a problem with is that by doing this it makes certain kinds of progressions very difficult if you don’t also decouple these progression tracks from dungeons when you de-emphasize them. For example how the kitten are people supposed to get Gift of Ascalon now???
You can’t have it both ways. This seriously needs to be fixed.
A big concern I have with the legendary crafting process is the economics. It is simply more effective for a player to ignore the whole thing, and accumulate gold via other avenues in the game and then buy the item on the TP. Seriously the economics of the Legendary Crafting process are out of whack and need to be adjusted. Otherwise this very desirable feature will be a failure.
I got Mawdrey and Princess to eat up an excess of bloodstone and dragonite, respectively, and I’m hoping to get the star for the same reason – but the scavenger hunts for these things are pretty fun too.
Get Herta for Bloodstone, it eats an entire stack in one gulp and returns Aurillium.
Herta?? There’s a new critter to get?!? My pokemon-ocd just kicked in!
Oh yeah. There is a nice scavenger hunt to get it.

There is a thread on reddit discussing this issue that has a developer response to the effect that they are removing requirements for failed events in these collection progressions.
Take heart, ANET agrees with you.
I did a quick research, couldn’t find it. Can you link?
Here is the link:
With the new longer event cycle the one hour forced reset for patches is occasionally causing me to have to abandon maps that I have a time investment in.
Could the patch reset timer be lengthened to take into account the new content cycle time?
The flaw with the character progression idea is that nobody in their right mind would go to WVW for character progression. It’s a place full of expert players armed to the teeth who will insta-kill somebody who isn’t an experienced level 80 armed to the gills. With the new maps it’s a LONG run back to where you died.
PVE is the place for character development. There you have a choice of what level you play at.
With the various change issues about the only good things about WVW now are that it’s good for dailies and building bonds with guildies. It USED to be attractive as a way to pick up hero points for secondary characters in your stable as well but that has been taken away.
People with both mature and developing characters don’t want to be spending a lot of time on leveling if they have fully mature characters too. Once you have a level 80 ascended armor dude with elite specs this is where the gold for your account is going to come from. This is what you want to be playing. Lower level characters are mostly good for log chopping and digging out iron or turning karma into linen while you accumulate tomes and mats for more ascended armor.
ANET needs to think more like a player. Players are looking at their play from the view of what benefits the account overall, not so much about an individual character. It’s ACCOUNT progression that matters.

Wings wings but no Guild wings, which is the one wing I want.
Also what is the deal with Norns flying? Clearly that is not a physical possibility. That’s even less likely than pigs flying.
