Axe 2 ground targeted cleave 2014
I see. I’ve been doing a lot of WvW and working on finishing my Frostfang. I considered achievement hunting, like puzzles and exploration, etc. I have no desire to level another character.
I’m patiently waiting for EQN as well.
For a while I was kidding myself that the game was keeping me engaged, and the two week updates were just something extra. Now that there are no updates, and I’m done the two living world contents (after 2 days), I find myself completely at a loss for things to do.
If you’re still playing the game through the holiday break, what are you up to?
I’m sorry if I missed this but I was just skimming the thread, and one of the major things I find lacking in this game’s story is purpose. In GW1, you did all these things for a reason – you became max Lightbringer and there was a story behind it, you ranked up the EotN titles and there was a reason for doing it. I don’t feel that with this game. It’s like, great, I’m in the order of Whispers. So what?
Bleeding stack cap has been reduced to 3
Reviving downed allies takes away HP instead of restoring it. This feature is Necro exclusive.
Sometimes I feel like I’d give up all other racial options just to have REAL Guild Wars lore back. That’s what’s making them abandon it. Guild Wars lore is based so heavily on the human gods that the addition of new races are making them rebuild an entire universe. It’s unfortunate.
Yeah those are lost sorry buddy
Necromancer
Death Nova – punt bone minions at foe
Stopped reading at “We”
I run Necro in a small squad on Sorrow’s Furnace (3rd rank Bronze lol) and I wouldn;t trade it for the world. Those who say Necro isn’t good for small scale havoc are out of their minds.
Play what you want though.
Try Sand
I would just like the physics department to add some weight behind player characters’ attacks.
It’s so simple – implement a vendor that provides rewards for an event-specific currency, similar to dungeons.
Pristine Clockwork Gear
Scale of Tequatl
Fire Elemental Spark
Glob of Coagulated Ectoplasm
Icy Fang
etc
The list can go on. Of course this won’t happen considering any new rewards will be in gem store. One can dream, though.
The only way to achieve this at this point seems to be to nerf material prices and make craftable items equal price as drops.
I don’t think you understand how this economy operates.
If you’re strictly doing dailies, it will take you ages to accumulate enough Karma. The idea is, they want you to experience a lot of the game for your weapon (most notable in Gift of Mastery).
WvW is a great source – just spend the day with the zerg, you’ll get tens of thousands in a few hours. Also, participate in world events. There is a champion event train that runs through Queensdale almost nonstop.
Ranger is probably the most common profession on Sorrow’s Furnace, if not in the top 3.
Thanks for the summary Romo. And yes, with the ability to convert Pristine Relics into regular relics, I would guess we aren’t getting any useful way to spend those any time soon
“I can’t flee!”
That’s probably a Necro quote somewhere
I had about 10 mins gem lag the other day, but planned on making a large purchase soon – should I wait until the lag is addressed, if it hasn’t been by the time someone reads this?
Thanks!
If we could siphon in DS, siphon numbers wouldn’t be so insulting.
Hi Nike,
I’ve been reading your posts and you certainly know your stuff – subclasses worked in GW1 for a variety of reasons, and for all of those reasons it would fail in GW2.
TL;DR
Designing new builds/traits/weapons before addressing fundamental PvE design flaws is a waste of time.
______________________________
My thoughts on subclasses, or any changes to the existing trait/skill system is that no matter what they decide to do, hypothetically or otherwise, it can’t come before addressing the viability of any build outside of raw damage in PvE.
We all know frontloading damage via berserker gear is king, and at this point, with current game mechanics, no matter what was introduced, it won’t be as efficient as doing so. Certainly there are groups that play whatever builds they want ( I main Necromancer so I know how far the spectrum stretches), but to put any effort into designing new builds that simply won’t be efficient is a waste.
My problem is that they are pushing diversity and territory of player role to the point where the content is so trivial, that every build is essentially the same – do damage, dodge 1 shot boss mechanics. Designing all classes to have an impact on content is fantastic and I think it should be promoted to no end; however, reskinning the same content ad nauseum should not be.
Build diversity is the largest misconception that GW2 has to offer.
I do about 0 PvP, but I frequent their forums to get an idea of where the balance is headed. There are a lot of threads about compensation for rank lost (or something of the sort, with this new addition of gold – like I said I’m not too keen on what’s going on over there) and it sounds a lot like what happened to us that were over 30.
Only thing is, I would bet that they are going to receive the compensation they are asking for, because you know, PvP and all. Can’t wait for the kittenstorm.
Frostfang
Have:
– Gift of Frostfang
– Gift of Mastery
– Gift of Magic
– 1/3 Gift of might
– 77 Clovers
– 250 Ecto
Need
– 2/3 Gift of Might
– Tooth of Frostfang
Spoj <3
That’s fair. Great idea though.
I was always hoping for something similar to Tainted Flesh but with bleed and Torment stacks.
Forums!
Who the hell is resing all of these kitten posts lol
With all due respect, how was this not considered before the announcement of a leader board?
Could you use total-accumulated fractal relics?
Lily I often agree with your posts and ideas but Verata’s Aura is brilliant. With a reworking of the Death line, it could be such an attractive attrition skill, and give out opponents huge decisions to make as they start wearing us down. Very good. Although the only problem i can see is how OP death nova would become
Is it possible for us to get an idea from you, Chris, of the concepts you think stand out and may have an impact on the future of progression? Right now it’s a lot of you repeating our ideas optimistically, but not a lot of context (with all due respect).
I have been building a proposal on behalf of everyone. I am still seeing how the discussion plays out on other ideas. I will continue to update the proposal. This is how I am approaching the ideation discussion. I think I have called out the idea that are interesting however I don’t understadn what you mean by ‘Not a lot of context’.
If you are looking for definitive promises on work actions then I am afraid that is something I won’t be doing. If you are looking for thoughts on direction moving forward then you can find this all over the thread and there will be a summary in this regard upon conclusion of the Vertical discussion before centering of the Horizintal discussion.
Hope this helps?
Chris
Thanks, Chris.
I’m certainly not looking for promises or confirmations. I guess it’s just difficult to absorb a lot of this information as I try to read it all at once and pick out progressive posts from the ones that are taking this CDI way off track (can’t imagine how you’re doing it!).
I will wait for the summaries of today, as it’s been a great day in this thread so far. Thanks again for the response. I didn’t mean
I’m not sure if you’ve seen my previous post about rolling up the gear types into a few different sets, and having each ascended armor have 3 selectable stat archetypes.
It seems like that idea and some others that have suggested similar methods caught some positive attention for a few pages.

designed more with PvE in mind
You must be new here
Craftable “inscriptions” that can be put on top of the existing stat set would be interesting, similar to how inscriptions worked in GW1.
“berserker insignia: +power, precision, +crit% – replaces current insignia”
players can craft these for materials that are relatively easy to come by, and stockpile them in their inventory for access whenever you need to change stats.
That is a very situational ability, and the exceptions to the rule shouldn’t be sued as an example to attempt disproving a point.
The most common conversation in regards to healing v DPS is the fact that there are very little medium-length encounters. I think a lot of the time you’re either fighting packs of trash for a few seconds or a boss for 1-3 mins (depending on your group), that’s going to one shot you anyway unless you dodge. There is very little room, or opportunity, to use the type of heals that cleric Guardians think they are running.
I think there should be more ways of acquisition that is based around working towards a goal, rather than RNG or material farming. It should be something that you WILL get if you complete the goals. I understand that crafting offers that to an extent but there are still materials that you have to farm for. I want to be able to put dungeon tokens toward building the gear, or pristine fractal relics that were basically admitted to be useless on the last patch.
Every time these RNG modes of acquiring gear come about, I just think about that PAX interview where a developer stated how passionate the team was about making sure you can get anything you really want by playing the game normally. It really makes me think, “what does the GW2 team consider ‘normal play’”?
I think before talking about these interesting yet complicated “synergy” abilities, we should have a meaningful discussion about the effectiveness of the current combo system.
I’m not switching, I don’t care. I’ve even made a ton of threads in other forums that have said that I am switching, and asking for advice, but every time I play another class, it’s never what I want.
Granted, Necro isn’t exactly in a state that I or most others where would consider desirable, especially for PvE where the changes that are made are often overlooked, but you can’t chalk up PvE problems to the Necromancer before you question the design of PvE in regards to the roles we fill, and every good Necro knows that.
I keep playing Necro because I know that PvE design is trying to shift – I saw it with TA Aetherpath and with every new instance that I find myself more and more useful in (relatively speaking, of course). I can’t see them changing existing content to fit more roles, but I do think that future content will allow us to see some more viability.
Another thing is, I’ve also played GW1 for 6 years, primarily on Necromancer, and necromancer only had two very situational roles in PvE until late in the game’s life (MM and SS). Once content was changed, Necro was a staple in most of the Elite zones. Now I know that these are vastly different games, and Necro in GW2 seems to be a vastly different concept, but I still have a dim hope because I absolutely love this class. Perhaps our attrition exists in our patience
nec·ro·phil·i·a (nkr-fl-) also nec·rophi·lism (n-krf-lzm, n-)
n.
1. Obsessive fascination with death and corpses.
2. Erotic attraction to or sexual contact with corpses.
On topic:
You’re a Necro, do whatever you want no one cares
I run hybrid and use my Necro in fractals and open world stuff. When I do dungeons, though, I usually bring my zerk thief.
Necro is my favorite, but I know my place :p
The thing to understand is that rolling a DPS build does not mean you won’t use your support skills. Guardian can pull some great numbers, and the bottom line is this -
your “healing” is never going to compare to what classes will already be doing for themselves.
You want tobe a support Guardian, roll Sword/Focus and GS or hammer and run the aegis/blind trains. Also see obal’s guide in the Guardian forum.
I’ve been using Nemesis’ Hybrid build for PvE for a while now, with few variations – Traveler runes, Rabid Earrings and necklace, with Berserker back piece and rings.
I was wondering if there are any other variations that are found more viable since the last few patches?
I was considering dropping the corruption sigil for a bursting sigil (+6% cond. dmg) and replacing sigil of Force on the focus with perception stacking. Will this be overkill in the crit% department?
What armor is that lol
good ol’ Red Resign
GW2 completion is nowhere near as tedious as GW1 map completion. You explore zones in large swatches rather than step by step. Also, I would be very cautious in using 3rd party software in this game, as ANet has always been very anti-mods.
I think the only reason the let TexMod slip by is because they new how ridiculous cartography was.
Celestial accessories comes from either crafting exotic versions or trading laurels for ascended versions. All celestial armor/accessories are account bound, so you will be unable to buy them from the TP
Blackgate and TC are two of the most active servers. If you’re looking to get into WvW seriously, these servers can be very competitive and the queue times to get into WvW matches are sometimes outrageous. On reset days, you can be waiting hours to play WvW.
They are great servers for world content however (meta bosses, temple events (which you’ll learn about later) and the like).
I’m in a guild on Sorrow’s Furnace, a medium -high pop server with friendly people and pretty casual playstyles, but there is a group of us that is always running something, and soon we will be putting emphasis on world bosses and open world content. There are no hardcore requirements and we have some new people as well that you could find things to do with.
Some of our veteran players are also always willing to give a hand, be it with content or advice/direction. Add me in game or shoot me a PM/mail if you’re interested, or if you have any question about the game in general.
After Frosty and Howler, i plan on going for Kraitkin.
That’s a great suggestion/addition to my idea, jsduke. Maybe the merchant can collect ascended materials for the transaction, as well as some silver, so that the materials would never fall out of use.
Making the gear available account wide via ach panel method doesn’t really solve the alt problem – you’d still have to craft every piece of gear that you’d want your alts to use. If you craft a berserker heavy set and your alt is a condition necro, it’s no use
