January Update Speculation

I’d be happy just with the long awaited BLTP armor/weapon preview option, gw2spidy.com works, but it ain’t fun.

Having said that, I wouldn’t mind another playable race (Kodan !) and more DE’s with more scope and better loots. Opening up more zones would be great, but I’m in no hurry, since I’m far from a 100% completion guy, so 400+ hours in there’s still areas I haven’t been to (with two 80’s and a third on the way).

Nah, they’d rather you spend the cash and teleport out. No way are they going to give you a free teleport option.

That’s bunk ofc, you ALWAYS have a free option: go into the mists, use the LA portal and carry on from there.

Glad to help out. ^^

This.

In fact, I rarely run instances, simply because I enjoy walking around in the world doing random stuff I feel like at a particular moment, it’s clear from the wall of LFG/LFM I see in LA that others need more incentive. The DE’s that are there are nice and all, but at this point they ARE starting to looking like placeholders for much, much better things.

Comparing the state of GW2 five months in to other MMO’s I’ve played, what’s already there is absolutely gorgeous. But it could be so, so much more, and I have no doubt we will see it this year.

I’d say save up the karma, and don’t forget doing your dailes. I just finished leveling my mesmer to 80, bought some green auction gear at 10-15 level intervals and dinged 80 with about 220000 karma, enough to buy 5 pieces of Armaggedon gear straight of the bat. Even with the money spent on gear during leveling I had about 20 gold ready for other nice gear and dyes (I don’t craft).

My Intel 550 120GB always loads busy-hour LA in less than 10 seconds, no matter the player load. Something like a 128GB Samsung 840 will set you back less than a hundred dollar/euro.

Plenty of peeps in Orr on Desolation, and my guild experience is the opposite of tigirus’, with more and more of our peeps (mostly ex-WoW) hanging out daily. Somehow, people always think their situation is typical (as he demonstrates with his post).

Just look up a nice med/full server, transfers are still free, don’t think Desolation is the only server with healthy player numbers.

I run into other players constantly on Desolation.

Even around 04:30 – 06:00 there’s usually people running DE’s. Some of the most challenging DE’s like Temple of Balthazar takes some more patience before a group’s on it good, but even that took me no more than a couple of attempts/hours over two days.

Just a quick note: make sure if you’re using .m3u playlists they have the proper format. For some effed up reason my Winamp (v5) turned out funky playlists, adding numbers (instead of a zero) to the #EXTINF lines, or omitting the #EXTINF line altogether, making GW2 resort to the default music.

VLC made .m3u files that played without a hitch.

Did some comparison, and it really is much improved.

I do think there’s a small performance hit, but some casual FPS tests didn’t show much if any real difference (maybe 32 FPS down from 35 FPS maxed out and with SweetFX on a GTX 660 Ti).

But even so, it’s totally worth it. Thanks….. this was much needed.

Now…how’s about that first-person view, pretty please ? =)

If Level scaling was gone would you feel motivated to visit lower level areas again?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Goettel.4389

@Josher: farming low level mats for crafting leveling, karma farming, running hearts for weapon/armor skins, world completion. Or just chillin’ and having some fun.

So: not pointless. Or at least no more pointless than any other gaming.

And feeling no danger is easily solved by adding mobs to the brawl, seeing how much you can juggle at the same time.

Level-scaling in GW2 isn’t going anywhere, but just for the sake of argument: no, I probably wouldn’t. Low levels offering nothing to a maxed out char was one of the prime reasons I quit WoW.

Are you doing all the dailies ? They’re quick to do, and there’s some sweet XP in finishing them all. I’m casual as hell too, one level 80 and two around 10-15 in over 250 hours played. Taking it slow has been the key for me to love GW2, I just log on and do what I want, without any focus on leveling, grinding mats or whatever. Just enjoying, you know, actually playing. Which might be puzzling in context of an MMO.

Sunday morning: Two hours in GW2

I have no trouble finding random peeps to do DE’s with, even at 4:00 – 6:00 in the morning. Champion fights might be tricky in the early hours, but weekends / evenings almost every champion spawn gets pounced on within minutes, and I’m sure my server (Desolation) isn’t the only one which has a lot of active players 24/7.

MMO's need a grind but not for fluff

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Goettel.4389

Goettel.4389

Feeling that, but…

I found all it takes is to relax into actually enjoying playing it. Somehow, MMO’s have separated themselves from other games, which people tend to play because, well., they actually want to have some fun ?

After getting past the no-carrot thing, I simply group up with some friends (or strangers) and do the daily (that’s sort of a carrot), going walk-about for DE’s/karma (looking for nicer skins, another carrot), or join in WvWvW. All for FUN.

GW2 has just started, there’s plenty of peeps all round the (my) server to join up with, and once players of other MMO’s get wind of it (somehow, many of them still seem oblivious of GW2’s existence), it will gain furter traction.

Where can I go for gw2 rehab?

WoW habit is like smoking cigs, i.e. it has to be done, but you’re not sure why anymore. GW2 habit is like smoking … a special cig, which I wouldn’t describe here until I get a better legal team, but let’s just call it ‘a hell of a lot more fun’.

I’ve been loving the endgame since level 1 and now I’m 80 will continue working on upping the habit-level with PvP (just did my first game and loved it), dungeons (did just one, loved it), finishing the personal story (at somewhere around level 50 now) and just walking around like a headless chicken and enjoying the dynamics.

Goettel.4389

I can’t get enough of the (warrior) combat in this game, so the fast respawns just add to my fun.

Especially Orr, which was designed to be run by small groups. I can imagine you might hate Orr if you’re just grinding crafting mats, but I can’t imagine why you would want to play a (this) game for that.

I never log in for longer than an hour...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Goettel.4389

Goettel.4389

When I’m playing I tend to log an hour or two, with occassional five to eight hour stretches – but not often. To compare, WoW was in the three to five hour per session range, with extremes between 10 and 15 in weekends. Oh dear …

A lot of the time in WoW was spent on raid-prep grinds, some 5-man, and a lot of AB/AV. And just standing in front of AH waiting on the queues.

My GW2 time is mostly spent on ‘going walkabout’ (rarely use WP’s anymore), just killing random stuff, joining random DE’s, mopping up vista’s and hearts I’ve skipped leveling (don’t care much for map completetion) and lending a hand if peeps ask.

Not going to claim quality (GW2) over quantity (WoW) of playtime, WoW was great times. But playing GW2 feels a lot more like having fun playing a game then leading a second life – which is both a good and a bad feeling, I do miss the level of escapism WoW offered. Hey, I’m sure rats consider their little threadmills as escape as well.

I’ve taken a long trajectory into the PvP, decided to level to 80 before starting it (just to serve my suspension of disbelief); just did my first bit of it and loved it, I’m sure there’s gonna be a bump in my play-time.

Has Guild Wars 2 been worth your $60.00?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Goettel.4389

Having clocked around 4500 hours over 4 years in a certain other brand MMO (name withheld for diplomatic reasons), at a combined cost of about 740 euro comes down to 6 hours of play per euro.

Almost 250 hours of GW2 over about 60 days, that’s about 4 hours of play per euro.

Compared to other “B2P” games, e.g. 120 hours on Skyrim and considering the lack of a sub means the GW2’s value will keep growing every hour I’m playing (and as it is, it looks like that will continue on for a long while) I’d have to say…

“HELL, YES!” =D

Player names in WvW! Your opinions?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Goettel.4389

Goettel.4389

Interesting, maybe we could have a system which literally allows you to ‘make a name for yourself’, starting you off nameless, then unlocking display of your name by your contributions (captures, revives etc.), then adding a formal title for certain achievements, (holding a keep for x time) next an adjective based on play-style (Fearless, Merciless, etc.) and finally a chosen title for players who distinguish themselves by number of kills, number of people following them into battle etc.

i.e. Ming
Emperor Ming
Emperor Ming the Merciless, Ruler of Mong

Apart from stroking the ego (which is what it is, and there’s nothing ‘wrong’ with it) it would help me to reckognize a lot about allies and enemies, just from seeing a name (or not): are they fresh meat, do they co-operate a lot, are they good 1-on-1, what is their intent..

I like.
