You don’t do a good job of explaining to your friends what makes GW2 a great game then.
[cue crickets]
kitten, for 15 chars.
My problem is that atm GW2 is not friendly to “hardcore” players just to casuals it slowly becoming this noobish casual MMO wihout any hard things because ppl could grind them and god forbid! thats a highest sin in GW2 if someone can get items and gold faster then a casual player so we all are stuck with laurel/daily system….
So play something else ?
It’s their game and your choice to play it, or not.
That’s really all there is to it.
GW didn’t have the requirement of having a lot of people in combat in the same zone.
While the ‘consume 25 foods’ daily is easily obtainable by purchasing cheap food on the TP, it seems completely out of whack.
Most foods give you a 30 minute buff minimum. 25 foods would equate to over 12 hours worth of buffs.
Why require the consumption of more than 2-3 foods? A ‘normal’ player just playing would not use much more than this if this amount. I don’t know anyone who plays and consumes 25 foods in a normal playing day.
I’m guessing they want to drive food prices up to get people to cook more, which seems sensible to me. The price of the cheapest foods on the TP on Desolation doubled today (from 2 to 4 cp), so it seems to be legit.
Much of it is down to working on your character’s look, which will give you plenty to do. I’m also alting it (3x 80, working on a fourth), since I love leveling in GW2, mix in some instances, explore for hidden content (there’s tons of it) etc. I doubt GW2 will satisfy any avid raider, since it has no raids. We could sure use some massive DE’s with scripted boss-fights requiring raid like numbers to get down. I’m sure they’re coming, too.
You do know it’s a selection you can choose from, right ?
And spending silver on doing the dailies is up to you too, you don’t need to.
Admittedly, if I don’t have a lot of time I sometimes find the new dailies a bit of drag. But then, I choose to just not do them that day – you gotta love choice !
Ah the daily manifest whine /thread.
If you don’t like doing something, don’t do it. Grind is in your head.
We had a couple of hours of login issues, but overal I felt it went smoothly. Communications on ongoing issues was good too.
Way to try to rationalise your preference as somehow applicable to others.
I disagree.
I found that Skyrim’s (your example) disparate gameplay elements didn’t gel together all that well, and went from being blown away by the atmosphere of the game to extreme meh in approximately 100 hours.
It’s been uninstalled ever since.
Gameplay elements in GW2 gel together so smoothly (to me) that even after nearly 600 hours of play I still have a growing feeling that the best is yet to come.
To each his or her own. No need to feel your (or my) taste is somehow relevant to others.
You, Sir, win he coveted Sourpuss of the Day award.
And thanks for contributing to the meme, I hadn’t heard of it, but now that I have, I’ll be doing my part !
I don’t love her, yet, but the casual stuff is good
My mesmer can add to the moa population, to the detriment of other species.
If I Moa Morph a moa, will the universe end ?
I think many people have favorite zones they like to hang out and e.g. do dailies in, mine is Kessex Hills. Sometimes it’s just about chillin’, ya know ?
“grinding” implies the need to do some activity over and over again against your will. GW2 doesn’t have a grind – unless reading forum posts from people who still don’t get this game after five months whining about grinding counts as grinding ?
Do not want….
I don’t cook, but for e.g. jeweler any masterwork item (identified by “master” after the name in the production tab) counts. Looking over the wiki it seems like there’s no ‘masterwork food’, though, mmhh…
Yeah, it isn’t like Anet to kitten up like this thou……. ahhh yes it is.
So every craft can complete the monthly but not a chef?
You’re welcome, I’m sure.
Next time, try looking stuff up yourself ?

One tip would be to level using shortbow as primary and dual daggers as seconday. Dual pistols is cool, but the shortbow gives added survivabilitywhich will make leveling a lot easier IMO.
You should rarely (if ever) need any other players to do hearts, and most events are soloable as well, including a lot of group events. Have you considered transfering to a high population server or guesting it ?
Learn to dodge and use evade kills.
Keep your gear upgraded every five levels.
You need to be level 30 before you can run the first ‘proper’ dungeon, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dungeon
..but you can start fractals from level 1 – although, if you’re having trouble doing hearts by yourself, I doubt you’d find fractals enjoyable at lv14. But trying is free ! (well, except the repair bill
For PvE, I saved all karma during leveling and just upgraded my gear in the TP every ten levels (five for mesmer). Including the collected daily karma, I had about 240000 karma when I dinged 80, which I spent on Orr exotics. Maybe because I hadn’t started crafting yet, I dinged 80 with more than 15 gold too, which I spent on exotic weapons and buffs. Now I’m working on getting my chars (three 80’s) some tier 3 cultural weapons, which takes me about ten days of casual play (one to two hour per day) to collect the karma, including dailies, per weapon.

Couldn’t find a thread on this, so: does killing mobs of a higher level give more and/or better loot i.e. improved loot tables ?

Thief hood forevah !
That right there is one of two things. Random thing developers put in as a signature, or it could be from Elona. There is a small chance of it being of Zhaishen orgin but highly unlikely
See the zhaishen order went under with Orr rising, so many have thought about where they could have gone. Some say Lions arc, others say they are now the npcs around and inside the WvW stuff.
I think its elonian because of the way the character on it is drawn. The curves and the use of the dot is a very common way of writing in Elonian dialect. Although the Elonian Dialect has yet to be translated, it doesn’t look like any characters currently known. But how knows, theres also a treasure room in lions arc by the frac portals. just a very small cave with a shovel/chest.
That would be epic to find, five months in.
I only play (EU) Desolation, and it’s a great, active realm.
A good profession to start on would be guardian stacking vitality and toughness.
skip to 1:32 and this time HEAR what he say, and i dont know. tell me! What is COF1 and FOTM?
They are elements in a much larger game that you evidently choose to run again and again, not because you’re having fun doing it, but because you’re chasing the gear dragon (no pun intended). The point you’re not getting is that it sounds pretty crazy to more rational folk that you would force yourself to spend time not having fun, then afterwards spend more time complaining about your choice.
Again, you weren’t lied too, and your argument is weak.
i have the right to say this guy ColinJohanson, I dont like him! why? well
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35BPhT-KI1E. i dont like to be lied. and thats my opinion. i keep attached to this game just for the nostargia i have from GW1, you guys should learn about those past game.
Nobody lied to you, get a grip dude.
You guys are building on a well solid game – I could name a lot of stuff I’d like to see differently, or stuff I’d like to see added, just as everybody else, but I consider myself very casual and I’m over 500 hours in. Nobody could seriously argue the quantity or quality on offer, more so for a subless MMO. You guys just keep piling on the awesome, andt they’ll come, and stay.
Also, Colin, posting in a thread like this is a gutsy move IMO, and something I wouldn’t expect and haven’t seen anywhere else. The hard work you guys do is printed all over this game, it’s just that lots of people seem to have been raised to expect everything to conform to their wishes, instantly, without any kitten clue how much work is involved (not aimed at TS BTW, your post was well put and argued).
I will pass the suggestion on to the design team.
Martin, while you’re at it, could you please, please ask for an option to get rid of the personal storyline tracker ?
I’m loving the new dailies – today I revisited Plains of Ashford and Wayfarer Foothills because of them, killed a champ and got something worthwhile (kitten loot, but 1/5 daily done) and a ding was paired with another 1/5 daily. If I’m short on time (e.g. playing around 5:00 AM before work), it’s great to be able to pick the ones requiring the least time. If I got more time I’ll just go out and play without picking dailies, and several will be finished before I realize, because of the variety each day – please keep adding to them !
And…how about adding “weeklies”, ANet ?
Go outside, get some air, then come back, it’s all going to be fine……jeez.
I want some “worst” (sausage, in Dutch) too while I enjoy the coming lock, /thread.
Opinions all over the place, which is good.
Level increases were the primary reason I eventually quit WoW. Every increase was basically a reset of all ‘accomplishments’ – not calling them “achievements”, to avoid confusion, e.g. at 70, all of the hours you put in at 60 were lost, since you had nothing to show for it at 70 -literally or figuratively. None of the gear, potions, pre-quests or whatever kept their value.
That felt like a betrayal of long-time players, every time. One of the reasons they implemented achievements is to off-set this, but that’s too far OT.
I love leveling in GW2 – hated it in WoW, so I’m not opposed to raising the cap, in principle. But ANet better not make the mistake of nullifying the work I put in at level 80.
I’d be a mesmer, sending one clone to work, one to compulsory social events and keeping a phantasm around to do the daily chores.
About fifty more animated emotes.
Even with four 80’s, I spent almost all my time in non-80 zones, simply because I enjoy doing the dailies all over the place. The diminished loot and lesser mats don’t matter much to me, since it’s not hard to get more than enough karma and gold to keep all my characters in exotics, and I don’t care about the tiny increases in stats I could obtain by ‘upping my game’, so to speak. And yes, I realize that playing mostly in lower level areas means those tiny differences become quite a lot bigger, making me less effective. But since this actually increases the challenge in low level areas, that’s fine with me !
I’d rather have an unidentified dye drop than any gear, to be honest, so that feeling of just farming and chillin’ is available everywhere in the gameworld.
I absolutely go back to low lv areas – from 1 to 80 – to do the daily events and clear up hearts for karma, not because I think the loot is rewarding, but because the game is rewarding to play to me. Which isn’t to say that loot tables shouldn’t be continuously looked at be ANet, as they are, and I hope the coming fix is going to help.

Wrong forum, but:
1. which race should i choose and why.
The one you like the look of most. Humans are good, Norns if you like your armor and weapon graphics to be as big as possible, Charr for their awesome quadrupedal animation, Asura for the even more awesome always-on-the-tip-of-falling-over animations and Sylvari… because, well, someone has to play them.
Charr and Norns have the most camera troubles for jumping puzzles, IMO, something to consider.
Base your decision on the racial skills if having as effective a character as possible is important to you.
2. which profession should i choose and why.
All IMO:
Guardian if you like to aid others, Mesmer for great fun and a ‘slippery’ style of play, Warrior for simplicity and all-round solid performance, Thief for crazy one-on-one damage, Engineer for the gadgets, Necromancer for awesome style and ‘pulling-back-from-the-brink’ playstyle, Ranger for company and Elementalist for crazy AoE damage and high utility if you like ‘stance-dancing’.
3. which server should i play on? i live in Sydney, Australia.
Dunno, my server (EU Desolation) is very active and a great server to be on, not sure how it would be for you ping-wise.
I healed raids for about four years in WoW and loved it, and found it hard to adjust to GW2’s system. I won’t say I don’t miss being a ‘real’ healer in GW2, I still do, but there’s a lot you can (and if you’re serious have) to offer to a party without being a pure healer: learn to anticipate the actions of others, then use skills/conditions/fields etc. which complement or strengthen theirs. If you really want to get into the role of supporting others over adding your own dps/conditions, try a guardian (or elementalist ? I haven’t seriously tried it yet).
The downside of healing (in WoW), for me, was that much of it boiled down to focussing 90% on the HP and debuffs of your assigned healing targets, while not standing in stuff. In GW2, I have to focus much more on the enemy while still keeping an eye on HP bars, conditions, positioning of others, ressing… it’s a lot of fun, after you get used to it, and I feel it’s definitely an evolutionary step in MMO gameplay, even though there’s plenty of room for improvement.
Not to be too harsh about it, but I feel GW’s hero system was there to compensate for the fact that it wasn’t really an MMO, but more of a co-op game with a MMO lobby.
Considering that the focus of GW2 is very much on tactile combat, I doubt ANet will ever add it.
You evidently don’t work in IT.
So just be a user, and be happy others are working their buds off so you can.
Well, fellow-stargazer, I doubt it is based on a real night sky, i.e. the night sky on Earth (which it obviously isn’t) or that of a different planet, which would seem to be pretty pointless as we wouldn’t recognize it as such . So it’s fictional, and was probably randomly generated, which is a shame, but I doubt many people look at the GW2 night sky often, since most never seem to look at the real one, or even really notice it.
Nothing positive to contribute except: good luck, I hope ANet helps you out of this mess.
Welcome back !!
Not reading this tower of text, sorry, but it’s good to see it up, from a distance.
IRL has a much, much bigger gem store, player housing, tech stuff like Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle to back up its dynamic events, more pixels and shaders, an essentially infinite number of audio channels, cold beers and warm girls (and boys). It has a sub though, I’m missing some basic options and a character select screen. Also, the cashgrind feels much longer, possibilities for respeccing are extremely deep but very time consuming and there’s no attaching yummy cake to emails – yet.
All things considered: don’t want.
Some good suggestions on your list, but as I’m sure you realise, this isn’t going to happen.
My heart said “nooooo!” – but why not ?
GW2 is about to lose alot of people to lack of content.
Says you.
