Alright, first things first; no, I do not deem Power Rangers OP… Yes? Then let’s go;

The previous couple of weeks, I have been going YoloQing Ranked, because to hell with some maps, and I have the weirdest experience, leading to me being utterly frustrated…

I have been playing off and on with names I recognize, for those on the EU, these are teams like Exaltion, Pizza with Nutella, ASDF and I am fairly certain I got nuked by some players from 55…
I am not the best player, let me clear this out, and me being teamed up or against them can literally lead to tragic games (for instance, I have one where I kept being farmed, since they realized I was a weak link)

But for the love of the 6 Gods why, why is it that I also get teamed up with and against people who die to Svanir? With people who like to play Daily vs Daily, and now this best bloody thing; A match with 6(!) Rangers!

No, the fun stops… I want to play PvP, a gamemode that is challenging and fun to do, since you can try to get your combat experience higher and higher (Because, what else is there to do in PvP?), but having these matches who can be best described as a random mess filled with aggrovating events, I can honestly say that my enjoyment just drains away…

Make fun of me, make fun of my MMR, say what you bloody need to say, but this is not fun at all! The differene between me going Solo and me teaming up with guildies is huge – where you actually see matches played, and not some heroes who want their daily APs


Of course, there would need to be a bottom line;

  • Get rid of those kitten ed dailies, they screw with your system more than you realize (or make it so that you can only get them in Hotjoin or w/e)
  • Get your MMR straight – it is no fun telling the guys from your team that you are not as good, and realizing that they pretty much babysit you as you get stalked by hungry top players realizing they got an easy prey… As the flipside; it is no fun either to explain every single match that you should skip Svanir rather than dying to it

Minor note; I do sometimes play in unranked with either half a group or with my Girlfriend – I am not going into detail with those since I really don’t care much about it (sorry to those who like unranked)

I have no need to feel as if I need to once more point out the flaws you make in your reasoning, I have said what needs to be said, and you “countered” them with arguements which make not up for what has been said…

However; you post this on the forum, for what reason? Usually, I want to educate people with the knowledge I have gained, but all you seem to do is promote a build that is subpar and without a role…

Read my comment again, and instead of replying, let them sink into you… Play to be an asset – which is more than a damage dealer… Which, whether you deny it or not, is the only thing your build aims for… You can hardly call Spinal Shivers (your only boon removal) an asset to your team with a 1.25s cast time and an animation so obvious that Ray Charles could see it

Again, sorry for sounding harsh, but if I were to put it in terms of other classes; you are trying to make Sword/Mace+Axe/Axe Warrior, Flamethrower Engineer and Healing/Support Thief work for no reason other than you feel that it works – you give no information as to what the role is (there is none aside from damage) and you give no relation as to how it compares to other builds
So sorry bro, but try again…

Also, I meant that Immobilize is Brokenly Strong – and that does not mean you exploit it, it means you are being an asset to your team for running it (Some other examples being Slick Shoes)

Sorry for sounding harsh, I get that you sometimes want to run a build that is not the meta. Which is fine, I do the same; however, you need to understand that you still want to be an asset to your team – Running a Flamethrower Engineer because it is fun is not a good reason why you glossed over Cele Rifle and deemed it unworthy to you. Get a Meta Build, learn why it exists, and adjust it to your playstyle, but don’t try to reinvent the Wheel, because there is absolutely no reason for it.
Ditch the Scepter, pick up a Staff – it does more “Troll Conditions” than your puny Scepter, and makes kiting more favourable (Chill>>>>Cripple), stop being stubborn and pick up an Energy Sigil, and please, learn that Utility is far more important than personal damage (Which is also a fact in PvE, which some people oftentimes forget)

Now, I didn’t want to actually discuss much within the forums, if at all, but your build seems the closest to a copy of mine that I needed to sit down and talk about some things…

Hollst already went over some stuff, and you disregarded them, however, there are several reasons you glossed over them too soon;


I don’t get ur point with the weapons really, like u said this build has more than enough lf regen, dagger or staff is thus useless.

- Dagger and Staff are never useless;
Staff is as much a utility weapon, as well as the only weapon which gives you the highest base damage in Deathshroud untraited. The reason why you would want a staff is because you are not running Axe Mastery, which means more damage is lost than you assume. Close to Death is not in either of the builds, though I covered it a tiny bit by using Staff, giving both superior ranged capabilities and damage.
Going over by the ranged capabilities, you mocked those who run dagger that they were not able to facetank in Melee, and that is why you picked a Axe and Scepter… Except, everyone in the Necromancer community already knows the importance of staying in range, and preferably as much away as possible – whilst your semi Ranged weapons do not suit either “Staying in Ranged” or “Kiting from Afar” at all.
Last but not least, Staff has a freaking fear! Why is this important you ask? Well, imagine you just did a wombo combo in DS, and now Doom is on Cooldown… You see someone getting ressed, or your teammate is about to get stomped… What are you gonna do? Not running into melee and using Banshee’s Wail I assume?

Dagger is by far the only weapon that makes power Necromancers somewhat worth it in coordinated teams… Think about it for a second…
Don’t know it yet? Yes, you already said it, it is the Immobilize – Immobilize is there for your team and not just for you. Mesmer in need of landing a Shatter combo? Guardian wants to use his WW+SoW+Smite combo? Warrior in need of landing his Hammer Stun?
Immobilize is broken – that is right, it is not just overpowered, it is broken. Literally anything you can do against it is cleansing it, or teleporting away – and if you are out of it, then say goodbye to your life.
Also, the Dagger at least provides good synergy with Warhorn, as both excel in close range (Locust Swarm is there for your lifeforce buddy, not just mobility)

As for the Lifeforce – you struggle with this when having a Warhorn and the Spectral Utilities? Man, I am sorry, but that is simply amazing or depressing… I’d say you would need to learn your own spec a bit better, because your build is probably one of the best builds out there to get Lifeforce Without using Mainhand weapons or a Staff


This build can survive fine without energy sigils, it loses a ton of damage and ability to spot stealthed targets if used, I know even terrormancers have been running them lately but, no offence to anyone who does use em, i find it too much of an easy option.

Easy option is not as much an excuse as to say YOLO everytime you dive into a fight. Necromancers get focussed hard, and not even staying in range is a suitible solution for it (As Mesmer/Thieves can ignore your positioning quite well)
Energy sigils are there to not make your team crippled for at least 60-100 seconds per match as you need to respawn, you might think you don’t need them , but frankly, any team that runs the Glorified Meta which you want to counter so badly, and understands their roles and capabilities will make your day the worst. That extra dodge is the difference between Life or Death, or are you just gonna facetank 3 CC’s after another, when you used both Stunbreaks and got no energy left?


Pack runes are a waste cos too much precision and swiftness, both redundant to this build.

Pack runes, once more, are not there for just you – they are there for your team. A Celestial Engineer getting Fury from his teammates, means he can likely proc IP, extra burning, extra damage. A DPS Guardian is quite slow, but give him the extra Swiftness in a fight, and he becomes a Mesmer’s worst Nightmare.


As for Countering the Meta as a whole

No Corrupt Boon, or Path of Corruption… What is your plan, widdle down enemies in 1v1’s until a teammate shows up? I can tell you that a Shoutbow Warrior is way more suited for that – your build has No burst and No Team utility, which means it is far from a “Meta Counter”…

Guardian Burn damage

I have no idea how to play d/d celestial ele, so yes, I just thought that screenshot was hilarious.

Aside from making me cry, facepalm, and make me feel afraid for the next generation of PVP’ers, what is the point of this thread?

The damage you saw was the cumulative damage taken before your death, and as some people have calculated, that was a fight over a minute (which is long in PvP terms), and you being subpar on a D/D Ele but still being able to tank a node for over a minute is more depressing than you dieing to the Guardian

The build is subpar, you are inexperienced – no need for a thread, or you could do this about literally every skill/condition in the game (Which has been done thousands of times already, because people always feel it is funny or unfair when they see big numbers)

Let me see;

The safest options to secure a win, high uptime of surviving on nodes and potential to score decaps, followed up by enough AoE to secure that resses (sometimes) don’t occur anymore because it might cost your life…

Yes, sure, the meta “is boring” and “takes no skill” – But can you blame the players for picking something safe and solid, rather than SD Flamethrower Engineers or Hexastance Warriors for an epic youtube montage?

And mind you, a good player stays a good player… The build can only “carry” to a certain extend, but you will see a noticable difference between those who went to Metabattle™ and copied a build, and those who mastered their class(es)

Bottom line; Yes, the meta is dropdead boring… I had a match against 3 Cele Eles, Cele Engi and Bunker Guard (Pug) and the fights went just on and on up until finally one opening was found… But you can’t blame people picking something that is optimal

My playstyle had to be adjusted a bit, but I find it more than decent…

Speaking of PvP youtube videos, it boggles my mind how ESL gives $400 weekly… Yet they don’t post there videos on the forums or to youtube, and if they do, its not very good advertising because I’m not and if I’m not than most people aren’t aware of it.

If some team became really good all of a sudden, it wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t know jack squat about the ESL tournaments. I was around when ESL was being hyped so that’s the only reason why I know of it.

Coverage of the ESL weeklies are found on these channels:

Digital Pro Sports for most of the NA stuff

UnityJebro for most of the EU stuff

Also, just because you turned a blind eye whenever they did promote their channels (which they quite frequently do in their respective threads) does not mean they do not advertise…

It is just a mix of the Forums not being attractive enough to actively promote youtube feeds (honestly, not everyone wants their pages to load slower because of youtube and twitch plugins on the forums; main pages are for that) and you being extremely negative and unwilling to even look further than as far as your hands can reach…

Not everything is served on a silver platter – if you truly want to be up to date, you could’ve been so multiple times…

January 27th Necromancer balance changes

Felt inclined to respond:

I get at least something good for my birthday (Might nerf sounds alright)… The Necromancer changes, meh, but some things did stand out;

Condi Necro gonna use Torment Sigil for sure

This is the first; if this is true, then I would imagine to see a lot more Rabid Necromancers’ – a thought to be dieing breed ever since most people who do not like to look into the class copy-paste Metabattle…

I am kinda 50/50 with it though… I will see, that’s all…

Runes of Scavenging in PvP seems something fun to test in my opinion – I was never a fan of Nightmare, and I would look into this when I can…

If I can, or want, I barely play due to my time and interest… it might return at the 27th if the changes are substantial enough, if not, I will likely not play much… like now…

Just logging in for this thread really…

I have to say, this is a lot of effort on pinpointing problems, all going to waste… This game is “casual” to it’s very core, where “hard decisions” are made redundant by “being too confusing”…

Depth and intricacy are missing, despite the solid combat system, and you nailed it right there with your post… Roles of the Classes are condensed into this “Master of all” thing, where some Classes are capable of nullifying certain aspects of the games’ combat…

This, however, goes back into a deeper discussion about Sigils and Runes being “Too Build Defining” – which I think was a discussion on the old Balance Thread as well… Well, this and of course the fact that we are looking at a single gamemode (Courtyard needs much work really)… There are literally no other roles “needed” since there are not more objectives…

This game is beautiful, but it lacks a deeper meaning to it – the updates don’t come as fast as you want them to be, which results in shallow and stale metas… Theorycrafting oftentimes results in the same stuff over and over again, and Role Diversity will never ever be created as long as there are no additional gamemodes in the near future…

Despite knowing your background in MiM very well, this game caters more to people like me – or just below me… It caters to those who like to play for like 3 times a week and have a laugh with it… Those in my league who are “somewhat competitive” can farm a nice rank on the Leaderboards and feel proud about their gear and Llamas…
It is rather clear that the intent is absolutely not in trying to actively achieve a healthy balance which opens up new roles for classes (and shaves down those who can have multiple) because the balance patches never came fast – so why should you try to keep up with it?

I have decided to listen to trees and make a leaf guys. Reason is not because I do not like the game, nor because I dislike a certain set of people, but mostly because most of the discussions on the forums have become stellar… Basically, too little is changing for me to keep interesting debates up, and I have grown bored of repeating myself in different threads

I know that some are actually quite happy to see me go, since I can be a major pain in the behind when it comes to discussing certain aspects, but I felt inclined to at least give my last notes here :P

It does not mean I will be gone from the forums, however, I will not give any input no more outside of this thread. I will keep this updated and answer questions when asked, or discuss things about the build within this thread. I will however not always respond within a day like I normally did… If the need is great, you can always add me in game and have a chat

My forum experience has been great however, and I got into nice discussions with some members, and some not so nice but that is how life works as well
I am still an avid fan of the Necromancer class, after all, playing it for so long in GW1 gets you hooked onto it. And despite Necromancer not being the main class I play within all aspects of the game, I seriously enjoy playing it, even if it’s counterpart from GW1 was so much magically better :P

I wish the best to you all and hope to see the class flourish and get some TLC the class deserves – Despite this though, I hope the same for my Warrior who is crying each time he’s holding a Longbow in PvP

So yes, thanks to you all, it has been quite fun and interesting debating about different aspects of the class, and a real interesting read as to what people’s opinions are, even if they differ a lot from mine

Leeto for being a champ and getting me to play the class again after a year of being into the game. If I did not came acros one of your posts on the Guildwars2Guru, I would’ve probably not touched upon this class until later on. Loving your WvWvW videos as they are really inspiring!

Flow for teaching me more about the Necromancer’s capability within somehwat of an hour of dueling than most in the field practice has done to me :P
To me a reliable source of information, and someone who I want to whisper when I am bored in LA – always friendly to reply, and really helpful when it comes to combat

Phenn for being a champ on the Guildwars2Guru. If not for him, I would’ve not gotten in some crazy thought-trains for builds and stuff. A passionate guy for the class, and a good source for information!

Spoj for trying to make the best out of the worst PvE class within the game. I know the game is harsh on the class you truly love, but your dedication and care seems to be never ending despite the hardships you and a lot of others must’ve had each update. Seriously hoping that the class will get in shape within PvE!

Bhawb though I do not see his face around much nowadays, another passionate guy for the class. Loves Minions more than I ever could, and has actually inspired me to sometimes troll around in WvWvW with such a build :P
Check out his podcasts if you like the class, they are extremely interesting!

Drarnor Kunoram who is so spot on with any kind of information about anything Necro, he will catch out anyone being mistaken about factual flaws
A wall when it comes to discussion, with little holes to break through since his wealth of information is a killer when it comes to discussions!

NeXed because he literally inspired me to make the build (even if he did not realize it). Has some nice thoughts about builds within PvP and is not shy to give his opinion either, which you always should listen to

Holl the most recent addition to a team that ensures to keep the spirit alive! A solid player with some innovating ideas. Whisper him for some duels, they are fun and challenging

Goodday everyone – Bear with me, this is a two parter with a build and an “important” message

Let’s get into it!


Build; GoogleBrandon’s Speed Necro

Anywhere you go, always dead last… Necromancer’s – notorious for being slow in any kind of situation. Whether you venture in WvWvW or in TPvP, you lag behind.
Now, the time has come for this to change, to achieve the maximum that is possible… It is time to run ahead and leave those behind who cannot keep up. Now is the time to get some speed!


The Build

Offering a power build that has never been seen before. Capable of bringing bunkers to their knees and being extremely survivable within small skirmishes. Nearly unlimited swiftness and decent fury uptime make this build a killer. The pressure does not stop if handled correctly, as you will be as potent within Deathshroud as outside of it…

In Build-editor Form

Amulet and Runes
Berserker Amulet
Runes of the Pack

With these two lovelies, you enable yourself to swiftly roam around the map, and do decent damage, while maintaining your own with weapons/utilities. The build is here to quickly turn the tide of a battle, but is fairly capable of holding a point.

Traits -2/6/0/0/6:

  • Spite 2: V or VI *
  • Curses 6: IV or V / VIII or X** / XIII
  • Death Magic 0:
  • Blood Magic 0 :
  • Soul Reaping 6: II / IV** or X / XII

*Depending on user preference

**Use this when you use Spectral Armor instead of Flesh Worm

Utilities:

Weapons and Sigils:

  • Dagger/Warhorn
  • Staff

Get a Sigil of Air + Sigil of Fire on your Staff and Sigil of Air + Sigil of Energy on your Dagger/Warhorn.
Reasoning behind this is that Staff hits harder within Deathshroud, so when you go into Deathshroud, you are capable of hitting like a truck when the sigils proc – while still maintaining some sustain outside of Deathshroud with a “Free dodge” on swap.
Energy Sigils are always needed(!) since Necromancers do not have acces to vigor that easy

Pros and Cons of the build

Pros:

  • Good small skirmish fighter (1v1, 2v2, 3v3)
  • Decent sustain for a power build (Capable of outlasting multiple opponents depending on their setup)
  • A nightmare to Elementalists, Warriors, Engineers and Guardians when facing head on
  • No direct class counter
  • Capable of defending points against small skirmishes

Cons:

  • Bad Teamfighter (4v4, 5v5)
  • Can be shut down easily by heavy burst focus (But still requires multiple enemies to do so)
  • Less power than the Traditional Power Necromancer
  • No AoE power in the form of Wells
  • No AoE Control in the form of Wells

Usability in WvWvW?

Well, I like to think it is, as I did and do use it. It is quite funny when your allied Thief has issues keeping up with you in sheer speed. The best part is that utilities and traits can be shifted easily before an encounter, so you are (most of the times) prepared as to what is thrown in your face.

It is, however, mostly a small roaming spec if you take it within WvWvW – Do not expect to zergbust, and do not expect to contribute much against large numbers. unfortunately there is no doubt that on average spvp players are better than gvg players.. and there is no reason why spvp players would ever need to learn from a 15v15+ fight as that kind of fight doesnt even come close to occurring

Despite not being part of the GvG community, I think your statement is so much full of bias, it is unbelievable…

There are literally hunderds or maybe more who have the talent and capabilities of being on par, if not better than most PvP’ers, but simply do not play because conquest isn’t their thing…

In fact, a lot of veteran GW1 guilds have not transfered to this game and settled within PvP, simply because of what a lackluster PvP is as compared to it’s counterparts in GW1… Those guilds have either stopped playing or are in fact doing WvWvW (usually splinter groups from their original guilds)

Err, let me just set one thing straight first, I main a Warrior, not a Necro :P

It was in GW1 where I mained Necro, which is impossible for me to do in GW2 since they differ too much… in GW2 I play nearly everything aside from Thief and Ranger


Uber, I am aware that there are burst builds exist, for a fact, I played both power and S/x Necromancer and Elementalist, maybe not on “Top Level” but hey ho, aside from Sheiishizo and Zombify, there are no Power Necromancers competing within it, and Scepter Elementalists have singled out to just Zoose (who also played D/D on GamesCon iirc)

Thing is, if these builds are so plastic fantastic, why is it that those are not utilized more?

You can argue about the power/time as to compared a Warrior maybe (Warrior’s burst aside from Evis is pretty bad and highly telegraphed) but it is quite a fact that almost no one ever runs these kinds of set-ups in a team, for well know reasons…

Also, saying “3 Sec Death Combo” is cool and all, but I always wonder – What are they using? Because if you are running BiP, WoS and SoS and use a D/F on Necromancer, you can easily get someone down quickly but you are running a build with literally no sustain…

Indeed, it will vary from playstyle to playstyle. As I’ve described above I use Axe as a part of my burst rotation. It’s roughly jumping out of DS one chain, UH and Claws, then back to Shroud or Dagger. In a period of 2-3 seconds I will get much better pressure from Axe than from Staff. I use NtD a lot, regular Power builds do not.

Of course the longer you remain in Axe weaponset, the worse and Staff has that advantage.

But based on my specific playstyle (mind me that I skipped that part, sorry), I just find Axe better for 1v1s. I also simply don’t 1v1 bunkers like Fire Field Warriors where Staff is better, my build plays very Mesmer-like and I focus on quick support and engagements.

I am fully aware of Axe’s capability, but the whole “Does more damage” or “is better” is in my humblest opinion so debatable…
The thing for me is that despite me trying to like Axe, I cannot utilize it… I miss the utility Staff provides, despite liking the insane burst Focus #4 followed by Axe #2 can have… Staff works better for me, and thus I “do more damage” with it…

That being said, I never said Axe was bad or does bad damage – I just stated why people prefer certain things over one another… I know a multitude of Necromancers who utilize Axe rather well…

Brandon, Axe does more damage 1v1 indeed, at least when playing with NtD and not camping it. I’m now talking about 1v1s against non-bunkers.

Axe is always better for bursting Thieves and Mesmers for example.

I am inclined to believe the numbers on paper might show that it does, but if in practice these numbers cannot reach, then Staff very much does more damage…

I mean literally, you can stand 1200 units away from one another, and I bet you that Staff hits more

When playing competitively “Does more damage” is simply wonky… It is not as solid as in PvE because there are tons of factors that can decide whether it does or not – which is my point within this thread…

but in a roaming situation…There is no way it can keep up with the Axe. You can still keep CoD if you want, for slightly less damage (which in a 1v1 will still be more than staff).

Only in your experience can Staff not keep up…
One of my favourite Necromancer who frequently roams uses Staff and is hella succesful with it As you can see here

If you feel that Axe suits your style better, so be it, but don’t make things up from your own experience…

Also, no, the damage is not comparable between Staff and Axe, so saying things in a sense of “Axe does more damage in a 1v1” is simply false… It is your own experience that makes you think that way – it is not a fact, and I can assure you that there are as many imaginary 1v1’s in which a Staff is better than an Axe…

All in all, save your breath when you try to inform people about things – Especially when the question is Why Staff is frequently taken over Axe/x and not what is better

Also the cripple is better IMO. Dagger’s is clunky and scepter’s needs to be targeted.

Unless you meant Unholy Feast, both the Auto-attack, as well as Ghastly Claws need a target… That is 2/3 that need it – which is the same as Scepter

Agreed. Not sure why people say Axe is the weakest weapon. Axe is dominant and I take it 100% of the time over staff. Staff is for condies…I believe you are a power necro (Don’t use a condi weapon). I chuckle inside when someone tells me they are a powermancer and they are holding a staff. Brb while I go hit someone for 10k+ with Axe 2. 15k Axe2 against glass cannons and some of you tell him to use staff because you have a little more ranged reach. Lol please. Use the axe ….you won’t be disappointed.

You loose valuable traits by using Axe mastery?? LOL? You are a powermancer…you want damage…. Axe mastery also carries into DS and Lich if you had your Axe equipped before going in. That is a TON of extra damage in both those modes.

I am glad you are taking your liking into Axe, but you can at least show some less bias towards those who utilize staff within a power build…

I gave reasons why Staff is more commonly used than Axe – if you disagree, fine, but there is no reason to throw a tantrum and act like a kid because I am dissing your favourite weapon…

Two times I got courtyard today – once because we had the choice between Courtyard, Skyhammer and Spirit Watch, and apparently people hate the latter more than Courtyard, and the second time because 4 of the enemy team voted for the map…

It was on both occasions where my team (first four and a pug, second time a whole team) managed to overtake the enemy with pure coordination…

The first time was a complete stomp from our side – granted, we are not shy of doing small scaled WvWvW roaming, so even with a pug, just four people coordinating on a minor level helps a lot…

The second time was actually really close, as we were about to be shut down… Luckily,
some kiting and well coordinated skirmishes led to our victory at the end of an enjoyable experience

From what I can tell though, the rules can use a bit of a rework (respawn timers etc) and it needs to be bigger… There needs to be more room for the teams to leave their spawn, because it is really to be overtaken one by one…

The que pop up time is awesome unfortunatelly the quality of the match is not. Give ANet Time they are in BETA with the new Matchmaking system.

They do not have a beta server so they have to test it on the live servers.

Yep this, and this is also why the new LB is going to be postponed to the 16th… So far, I am happy to see the devs quickly reacting to the many negatives, despite of how it is formulated within the forums

Two Necromancers here out of thirteen characters (over eight classes)

I would personally keep the gear you got currently on your Necro and get a casual group to do CoE daily – get some gear again, gold for runes and weapons, you should be done not too long…
Thing is, Zerk gear is also fine for some small group/solo roaming in WvWvW – so don’t get rid of it yet

Yes and no…

SoloQ, as in the button, has indeed disappeared… However, the thought behind this was introducing something that is called “Unranked Que” which enables people to “practice in a 5v5 setting without the hassle of finding a team and getting teamstomped”…

The way I personally see it is that “Unranked” replaced Solo Que and “Ranked” replaced Team Que… Difference in “Unranked” is taht it is possible for teams, or 2-4 people to sign up for it…

Now before you freak out about it, I did test it yesterday, though my experience was brief since I had limited time…

I played 3 matches…
One of which I got teamed up with 3 Shatter Mesmers, one Minion Master Necromancer and myself, a Meditation Hammer Guardian… Now I realized that the class system and matchmaking is currently being worked on, so I took no offense in it – though I lost since there was no room for us to freely cap and hold two points…

The other two however were balanced in termms of classes for both the enemy and me (One of which I had two DPS Rangers and two Thieves, which I still considered better than three Mesmers) – and we managed to win those matches…

Overal W/L Ratio is 2/3 – Which is a rough estimate as to what I had in SoloQ…


In short, yes SoloQ is gone, but they are working on it to make the experience the same within the current format they have… As it stands, Unranked gives the same reward progression SoloQ did, and as to my experience the same matchmaking now as well (despite it being wonky)

  • Match 1: Skyhammer, Courtyard and Khylo
  • Match 2: Forrest, Temple, Spirit Watch
  • Match 3: Forrest, Legacy, Courtyard

Hmm… I am no stranger to having no Lifeforce at the start and can live with it (strange lags tend to screw you over so sometimes I do not gamble), however I do think the complaints are somewhat justified…

You can builld around getting more lifeforce during battle, heck, my current test build for power has huge lifeforce gain, but the issue is Deathshroud being the only defensive mechanic they have (sides some conditions)… In turn, they sacrificed a lot, which was “alright” considering you could have acces to it most of the time…
However, now at match start, you do not have this luxury – and especially a traditional Condition Necromancer can suffer from it a lot… Where you could safely defend yourself in first engagements on the point, youa re now being force away since you need to build up your defensive mechanic to a safe level to actually peform on par as to how you did previously… And for some comps, this can very well cost you the encounter or point…

All in all though, I think this goes back to a much larger discussion about the Necromancer’s sustain, the attrition design core and how this corrolates and falls apart thanks to Deathshroud… Do I have a solution? Not really…

There’s an achievement for ever class – win 200 games in any format. Then there are champ titles: win 150 games in rated. And now you can just get the rated titles from unranked. Makes no sense, they are basically the same thing now.

No, you did not… the ease of getting those titles remove any prestige, so whether it is logical for them having it in unranked matters not since there is no worth to a true PvP’er to those titles anyway…

Again, if there were new titles with a higher difficulty of obtainability, then by all means make them ranked exclusive, but these measily 150 wins mean literally nothing…

Mind you, asking for this is quite a stretch since there are multiple classes who can fit multiple roles i.e. Elementalist with D/D or S/F (Sustain and Spike damage) – this is the reason why the LFG tool has been implemented rather than a Team Builder tool (I think)

What can be done is promoting the LFG tool better when you open the PvP tab for instance… Show a little border with “Write your LFG now!” and “Open LFGs” – Both opening the LFG tab… I have been told that there is a multitude of people who do not even realize that TPvP was even within the LFG Tool, and I guess it is because it is mostly underutilized…

Or, give it time to settle, let the Devs handle the complications that existed because of something that has drasticly changed and give proper feedback for them to do so… Work things out together with them – they are humans, and quite capable of listening despite of what most people think…

Honestly, people are overreacting… New patches were rarely to never perfect, and something that completely overhauled most things people were familiar with does need some time to be perfected amongst the majority of the players… Algorithms need to be resolved, metas need to be adjusted, bug fixes, match ups…

If you have issues (such as staying in HotM and it being boring) then adress those, give proper feedback as to why you want them to see change some things within the format they laid out on everyone this patch – don’t start threads like these which are just silly complaints which only says “Everything was better in the past Q.Q”
