So.. can we just face E Bay for like..idk the rest of our lives?
If DB is serious about wanting to see us more often, you’ll have to send us some of that overnight crew of yours to help keep the PPT competitive. Otherwise we’re only ever going to meet each other on a particularly lucky RNG roll.
Reckless Bravery [rB] havin a blast in SoS BL great fights guys.
Yep, good times. We (VS) were quite impressed with rB tonight.
I will be gentle.
I won’t be, I will be rough, and you will end up in tears and possibly reroll a new profession or make a nerf thread (what the last YB guy did).
Hey EBay. How did this guy’s head fit through your servers front door?
It’s not bragging if you can back it up. And I assure you, Cookies can back it up.
They should offer discounts for transfers to low ranking servers based on how many WvW achievement points the player has. Say, 10 x WvW points off the gem cost or something.
Arenanet, you have no idea how badly you just messed up.
Patience, my young padawan. Wait for this week’s patch to randomise the matchups a bit and you might get to change colours which will make reaching certain areas easier than from wherever you are currently.
No skill lag in my tier. Perhaps you should transfer down?
The reason Glicko doesn’t work is because the ratings don’t naturally gravitate back to 1500 over time like they should. Instead the top tiers just get higher and the low end gets lower. I’m in T5 and there are 350+ points between T4 and T6, so unless things change, my server is stuck here forever.
The solution should be something like this: every week, take 1% of points from T1, 0.75% from T2, 0.5% from T3 and 0.25% from T4. Add them up and redistribute 10% of that total to T5, 20% to T6, 30% to T7 and 40% to T8.
Some of us come from real pvp games where you don’t know theres an enemy nearby till you take an arrow in the knee. And its a lot more fun for the enemy.
FYP.
This change balances nothing. It’s yet another incentive to just zerg up and karma train around the map. As if that wasn’t happening enough already. >_<
As a lone oceanic playing on a largely NA server, I used to have plenty of fun trying to defend camps when I saw them contested on the map. I’d get some great little fights out of it, me + remaining NPCs vs say 3 guys. Sometimes I’d win, sometimes I’d lose, sometimes I wouldn’t get there in time anyway.
The 30 second delay on contested crossed swords however, now makes map-based camp defense literally impossible. Since the patch, I have not yet been able to save a single camp by watching the map, as I’m just too late every time. Sure there are other indicators like disappearing yaks/sentries, but they’re easy to avoid by any attackers with a clue.
Now as a defender, my only options are to tail the enemy group and report their movements (ineffective due to empty maps due to timezone), backcap (boring as hell) or park myself at a camp and wait (even more boring). Whatever happened to Arenanet asking the question “is this fun” of any change they make?
I can live with a 30 second delay on keeps and towers, but applying it to camps just makes it unreasonably difficult for defenders to try and hold them. They were easy enough to capture before the change, now they’re just a free flip for whoever wants them. Because more WXP/karma training is just what WvW needs. :\
TLDR: keep the 30 second contested delay on keeps and towers, but remove it from camps.
Also google around for the various server forums and see what you make of the community from that angle as well.
I’d suggest Ehmry Bay, but I might be biased. We only really have queues on reset night, and even then they’re rarely more than 15 minutes at a time.
This 30-second change is a buff for offense. It makes it easier to take objectives by giving you a 30-second headstart. Arguably, this buff was/is needed during primetime, because if the defenders can arrive in any sort of numbers objectives are incredibly hard to take. But during off-peak…… this is devastating.
Bolded the important part. As an oceanic on a server with no real oceanic presence, there is practically no point in me trying to defend anything any more.
As someone who enjoyed the challenge of late night camp defense, this 30 second delay on crossed swords has just completely destroyed my entire WvW experience.
Hard to see myself playing much anymore.
Terrible change. Stuff is challenging enough to defend without giving the attackers a 30 second head start on it.
kittening karma trains. >_<
Impressive showing, SF. Looking forward to seeing you in T5 someday soon.
Yes but they often stayed up late enough to count as oceanics. And I’m oceanic.
I miss SM. But not enough to transfer, sorry. :P
I will never understand why anyone in their right mind would actually want to transfer to a higher tier.
OP should transfer to a lower tier.
If we can’t have separate reset times for NA/EU servers, then there’s little point in having NA/EU servers to begin with.
I’d be OK with the 100g purchase price as long as you had to earn 50 WvW achievement points first (not WXP, that’s just a terrible grind that made everybody forget how to defend).

Just curious what the best realm with the most population on for pvp / pve is?
I’m still installing the game so I thought I’d best ask before I jump on!
Cheers
Why does the best have to be the biggest?
If you’re at all interested in WvW, you might not find the queues in the upper tiers to your liking.
I have a guildmate who doesn’t WvW either; I took him to EBG tonight and he got his 50 kills from a single fight outside Durios. vOv
Just transfer to a lower tier. I get next to no skill lag here in T5. vOv
I’m on T1 and there is no small group action.
I found your problem.
To the DR ele and mesmer who killed me below Foghaven… epic fight.
Translation: we’re not changing a kitten thing, we’re just putting the decision in the players’ hands. Either annoying culling and occasional lag, or no culling and crippling lag.
Thank you for the details, everyone!
We believe we’ve identified the root cause behind this, and the good news is that it’s not related to your hardware, ISP, or account. Unfortunately, we’ve also determined that this is going to be an ongoing project on our end, so we don’t have an estimate on when it will be completely fixed.
Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
Any update on this? I haven’t been able to play for 2-3 weeks now; it would be a lot easier to have patience if I had any understanding of the issue at all. :P
Why DON’T people play WVW?
Now that’s a question!
Because I don’t benefit in any way. “Fun” is never a good enough motivator.
It is for me.
11 days of crappy GW2 connection and counting.
Here is my experience with tech support when dealing with this. First, they asked me to run the GW2 diagnostic tool. Then, they asked me to run ping plotter. After that, they told me that my ISP was to blame since they connection route they took was faulty. I emailed them with the data, and apparently there is nothing wrong on there side. To test this out, I used the ping plotter on other IPs similar to GW2 (takes the same route) and found that they were able to connect 100% of the time. So…I emailed the results asking why this is occurring, and still tech support says my ISP is to blame.
STOP BLAMING MY ISP!
This has been pretty much my experience over the last few days as well. The funny part was when I was told my ping should be 50-150ms, not 250ms; this despite me having already told them I’m in NZ, from here 250ms to the US is actually not too bad.
It does seem rather odd that practically all the data I gave them showed nothing more than a token amount of packet loss, while in game my skills regularly take upwards of 5 seconds to activate, I’m rubberbanding all the time and disconnecting as often as once an hour.
There really should be a latency indicator of some kind in-game like there is in GW1.
Been regularly disconnecting these last few days here as well (New Zealand), same error code as everyone else. Also the client has occasionally frozen completely, requiring a hard reset to fix.
Weak, Arenanet. Weak.
Free transfers cannot end soon enough.
1. End free transfers.
2. Make the outmanned buff useful.
3. Limit breakouts to 1 per hour.
Did Yak give up this Morn or wut?
They certainly weren’t giving up tonight. Mother of god, those were some numbers.
EBay has a decent server forum community, though it’s not strictly WvW-focused of course. It’s taken a long long time to get many EBay guilds agreeing to share voice comms though, and many individuals are still terrified at the prospect mainly because they got yelled at in a past life or something.
When you look past the egos and the whiners there’s a good core here. But personally I don’t expect us to survive in Tier 4 long term as we just don’t have the 24h coverage you need to stay there.
34 and loving it, despite the WvW issues.
The point of WvW for me is just the sheer fun of it. Yes it has issues, but they affect everyone equally so I don’t really feel cheated unless there’s some exploiting going on.
It helps that I have two 80s now and can swap between the different playstyles as I like. Working on a third 80 on the side as well, which means more variety to look forward to down the line.
I like the mechanic in a general sense, although some individual professions’ downed skills could use a bit of work.
This week is won by GOM and at this point there is nothing to bicker about. It’s true that Ehmry Bay has had a couple loses lately and its also true that we have had hacks and exploits used against us during those loses, BUT that did not ultimately lead to our defeat. It was a contributing factor, but NOT what is keeping us from a win.
Actually I’d say it was our dominant win over whoever it was like 3 weeks ago, which catapulted us too far up the ladder into a spot where we in turn got dominated for 2 weeks.
I think we’re in the right bracket now and we did at least manage 2nd this week. If we fell another bracket we’d just dominate again and in doing so set ourselves up for another couple weeks of failure afterwards.
When GOM and SF are forming 5 man groups to pick off reinforcements; instead of Ehmry forming in 5 man+ groups to meet with our larger force, people trickle in one at a time to be slaughtered, or folks are running for the hills because it’s a 5 v 4 or 5 v 3.
I agree with you on this though. It’s amazing that even now there are so many people who don’t realise there are three exits from every spawn.
Rage transfers aren’t the answer though; nobody likes a coat-tail rider. People just need to learn not to directly associate the match score with how much fun they can have. And if you understand that, then step up and educate those who don’t.
Remember, every server will lose 2 out of 3 times on average. It’s how you deal with your losses and what you can learn from them that counts.
I WvW for fun. Sorry if that’s not enough for the OP, but it is for me. vOv
Completely agree with the OP. For the sake of encouraging losing servers to not just give up for an entire match (which is happening a lot already), the orb and outmanned bonuses should be swapped around.
Currently the plan for server costs – when Anet are ready to introduce them – is a simple 3-tier concept based on server population; low = a little, medium = a bit more, high = a lot.
I think this can be improved with a view to addressing the problem of WvW queues and one-sided matches:
$transfer_cost = abs($existing_plan + (($wvw_ranking – 1000) * 2))
This further increases the transfer cost to servers who are both high pop and high rank, while reducing the cost down to potentially nothing for servers who are struggling on both counts, providing a more direct incentive for the WvW-inclined to take up the challenge of playing for a lesser server.
Thoughts?
