Instead of trying to fix the imbalance which there is no viable solution for we need an adequate handicap for the servers which have a lesser population.
There’s no such thing.
The only real solution is reduced map caps coupled with free transfers to encourage guilds to spread out more. But that will never happen either because Anet values people’s $ over people’s enjoyment of their game.
Transfer down, problem solved.
Because as a PPT defender, my role is now impossible to play.
I don’t want to backcap, I want to prevent my opponent from capping in the first place.
There’s a simpler idea: bring back white swords.
T7 NA.
I haven’t played WvW since the change as I predicted in advance what a horrible change this would be for PPT defenders like me. And going by the feedback I read here, I see I was quite correct.
Oh well, back to Elite Dangerous.
As a PPT defender on a low tier server, this change isn’t just a game breaker, it’s a game ender.
The reason ebay bl rarely gets solo roamers is because you all have such a reputation for siege humping. At best I’ll get a couple fights before y’all start building sup ac’s and bali’s in upgraded camps or avoiding me all together to back cap.
It is just more fun to hit the other bl when faced up against you.
Mission accomplished.
Transfer down or you’re doing it wrong.
Words cannot sufficiently express just how mindbogglingly, pants-on-head kittened this is. There is literally no reason for this change other than Anet hates its own game.
Oh well, I needed a break from WvW anyway.
The complaint isn’t about the match itself in terms of fights, the complaint is about the fact that we just keep getting the same servers over and over with nothing to bring any variety to WvW.
That’s just a symptom of the larger server population imbalance issue. We all could have varied AND competitive matches each week if Anet actually had the stones to make it happen.
(edited by Grav.3568)
Removing white swords from objectives to give defenders a stronger role in alerting their team as well as giving attackers more of a chance to get through having their siege disabled.
So instead of making defending more fun, you’re simply going to require that there be more defenders?
How is it that you cannot see that this destroys lower tier servers all over again?
Whenever Anet describes WvW matchups in a single word, I can’t help but add “ly imbalanced” to the end of that word.
"Unique"ly imbalanced
"Exciting"ly imbalanced
"Intense"ly imbalanced
"Special"ly imbalanced
"New"ly imbalanced
So many threads popping up about the same frustration. This can’t outrage go unnoticed and if it does… shame shame.
It can and it does.
I have so little faith in Anet to actually do anything positive about WvW anymore that I can’t even be bothered reposting my ideas (again).
Someone important should just read my posting history and apply everything I’ve already suggested in the past. Warning: you might have to go back a year or so to get past all the cynicism. :P
As an oceanic who always thought the idea of an oceanic server was stupid to begin with, I’d just like to say that this thread warms my heart.
If you cheat, your account is headed on a one-way trip to Termination Territory.
If that’s true, then why is the person I reported a few weeks ago still playing the game as of yesterday?
Don’t feel bad. Anet doesn’t like/understand WvW either.
See you in-game,
I play WvW, so you probably won’t. :P
Anet have had almost 2 years to fix the issue of population imbalance in WvW and done precisely nothing about it during that time.
It’s clear to me they don’t give a toss about competitive large-scale PvP and would rather just sit back and collect transfer fees instead.
Free transfers – particularly to higher tier servers – is where it started.
For all the noise Anet were making about no pay2win in GW2, they sure did a great job of implementing it in WvW right from the very beginning.
Your world association is not determined based on the sheer amount of time you’ve spent fighting for a world, but rather the things you’ve achieved during your time fighting with that world.
How it should have been:
Your world association is not determined based on the sheer amount of time you’ve spent fighting for a world, but rather the lowest ranked world you’ve transferred to/from.
Transfer down, problem solved.
For Ehmry Bay: [CoS], [CoT], [EBAY], [oG]. [SM] are inactive, [Fall] and [Halo] transferred a while back and [VII] is a PvE guild.
Don’t try to force the higher tiers to become the medium tiers. Plenty of people want to blob. Hell, that is why they transferred up most the time (for the fights…you know…the large scale fights).
People don’t transfer up for the fights, they transfer up for the wins.
I’ve been in favour of the idea of lowering the map cap since forever, though I wouldn’t overdo it. You don’t want to lower it to a point where people are still queuing even if the population did actually spread out across servers like we want it to.
I’d start by lowering it to 100 per server, and add other incentives not to blob when in WvW; for example players can’t directly damage gates anymore, proximity debuffs that kick in whenever orange swords are triggered, etc.
Just as soon as they nerf permastealth thieves, nascar warriors and anything else that can disengage from a fight at will.
We will need a “server” chat channel, so people on the same home server can hide /map to avoid the trolls from other servers, but still be able to chat to each other in peace.
No queues in my tier.
vOv
Ehmry Bay has lost 2 guilds (Halo, ASG) while a third (TEW) has split with its WvWers moving and PvErs staying, and another (SM) has gone inactive.
Doesn’t sound like much, but in our current state it doesn’t leave us with much either.
Since free transfers kicked in EBay has lost 2 more guilds and another has disbanded.
Free transfers will only work for T8 servers when they’re the only options that are free.
The feature patch cannot destroy WvW.
WvW was already destroyed by months of free transfers, WXP grind, tradeable siege and EotM.
EBay lost most of its WvW presence weeks ago, it’s only taken Glicko this long to figure that out.
They won’t do anything because it will create a precedent. What if another server suffers a exodus not quite on the scale of SoR just before the next tournament? Where do they draw the line?
If you’re oceanic and you want to be carried by other oceanics, then Ehmry Bay doesn’t want you anyway.
SF seems to be on some sort of powered upswing (I have no idea as to why)
Two weeks in a row vs Ehmry Bay will make anyone’s Glicko look good.
Q: How to achieve WvW Server Balance?
A: Make people spread out evenly across all servers.
Q: How to accomplish this?
A: Halve map capacity across the board.
FYP.
I wish the developers would stop pairing us up with GoM. I found out that the players are on nearly 24 hrs nonstop. When are we able to turn the tide with those kind of figures. Stop pairing us up with them. Start pairing them up with DR and EB instead of us (Eredon Terrace Boarderlands).
Yes because clearly Ehmry Bay is a match for Gates of BLOBLOBLOBLOBLOBLOBLOBLOB
Finish last vs #20 and #23, get matched against #19 and #21 <- Anet logic.
Last night I got rolled by about 8-10 enemies after they got the wall down at NE tower. But they didn’t seem very well organised, so I immediately ran back from citadel to see if I could make it back inside before they flipped it, and got back in just in time. I laid a portal and dropped down the cliff a bit, they ALL came down after me, I portalled back inside and just left them down there. They never came back, free tower for me. \o/
CD has lost guilds but you know what? We are in the same exact position we were in months ago right at the start of season 1 even after losing over half a dozen guilds.
Yes, but if your competitors are also bleeding guilds to T1/T2 – and I’m fairly sure that applies to pretty much everyone south of Dragonbrand these days – then that’s not really saying much.
Tournaments such as these highlight not only how critical the issue of WvW population imbalance has become, but how woefully lacking Anet’s response to the issue has been to date.
In an ideal world we wouldn’t even need leagues, but Anet has enabled, nurtured and even encouraged the precise opposite instead. Good job, guys. >_>
You know nothing about what a dead server is until you play on Ehmry Bay at night.
Nothing.
No one in Tier 2 is going to beat anyone in Tier 1 unless backdoor arrangements (not in the spirit of the game) are made,
Making backdoor arrangements is exactly what the spirit of the game should be about.
The whole premise of 3-way server PvP is to allow for two smaller servers to stand up to the dominant one. Normally it never happens because normally there is no incentive to do so, but tournaments such as these can provide that incentive.
You want proof? Look no further than to week 47 last year when Yaks helped EBay sneak into second over SBI, in order to keep SBI below Yaks in the overall league standings.
You think you have it bad?
Since July last year, Aurora Glade has won 6 WvW matches.
In that same time period, Ehmry Bay has won 1.
Easy. More $$ for Anet.
