Clearly there’s nothing wrong with the precursor market. If there was Anet would be doing something.

Thing is, in capitalism there are always big winners and big losers. We just aren’t on the winning side. Go search for a way to exploit the system and make your fortune. That’s how it’s done in capitalism and that’s how it’s gotta be done in GW2.

The thing is that Anet has said that they are doing something about it. There is a thread that is/was stickied about the precursor availability issue. They increased the forge rate and gave out tons from the Karka event.

They are working on a nonRNG non market way of acquiring them in game.

Clearly there IS a issue with the precursor market, the real question is when the issue will be resolved

Little over 2 months ago I set a goal for myself, Craft a Legendary Great Sword before Christmas. Depending on the precursor that dropped I would make the corresponding sword.

It just passed 12:00 here and its December 26th now

I still haven’t got my precursor from Mr. Stingy Genie and I have a few of both Charged and Onyx lodestones.

Feel kinda disappointed since I was grinding my butt off, but it wasn’t meant to be =)

Anyone else have Christmas set as their date to get X by? Did you make it or did you miss it?

I firmly believe that the exotic forge rate is probably ~1% for a precursor. Sorry you didn’t win big at the House of Zomorro! =(

I wish i was smart enough to control a item on the TP… unfortunately I am the mouse who chases the cheese around the maze. I finally found a decent farming group and a good spot to make a decent amount of Gold/hour.

Wish I had the smarts to make money that easy, but most of my attempts either lose me gold or so time consuming that its just easier to farm.

I wish the rate was close to 10% to get a precursor from exotics

Based on a 10% chance to get a precursor, lets say I forge 20 times. Lets also assume that the cost of each Exotic great sword is 2.5G

the first attempt requires 4 exotic great swords =10g
each attempt there after would cost us 7.5g

10+(19*7.5)= 152.5 G

Now while Going 0 for 20 isn’t crazy going 0 for 50 (which would cost 377.5G) would be considered fairly rare based on a 10% chance.

Even if you were wildly unlucky, throwing Exotics in the forge would be cheaper then buying a Dawn or Dusk*.

Throwing exotics in the forge might have a higher then 1% chance but It can’t likely be over 2.5% imho.

Lets think about 2.5% chance. Our 1 out of 50 tries would be nearer the usual rate for that . Which means that you could make a reliable profit over the long term based on current market prices by throwing in Exotics and reselling precursors. If the rate is higher then 2.5 then some rich person could be making a killing off doing this, so much so that I don’t think the rate is near that high because we would probably have a greater supply if that was the case which has lead me to believe that 1% is closer to the true % for exotic forges.

BUT I am not a statistics major and maybe my math is just wrong.

• Why do I assume you are throwing great swords in? because there are few other precursors that come close to the price of Dawn or Dusk so you prob should be throwing Great swords in even if you want a different precursor because you would make a profit on any Great sword. The Lover ~200 Gold < 345G BUY order

If i have a sigil of lightening (30% chance on crit to strike with lightening) on both my MH and OH weapon, Does that make the chance on crit higher then 30% or is the extra sigil a waste?

What about sigil of blood and or might stacks?

What if I have 1 of blood and one of lightening?

I don’t know if level has much to do with this since if its a anti bot measure bots would just level the toons* in order to farm higher end mats.

*The investment of getting a bot to 80 via crafting so he could farm higher level mats might be worth it.

Easiest way to “fix” this is to create a guild with you 2 in it, build the Bank and have him deposit it so you can pick it up.

Like I said I never heard of this, but on release I don’t think many people were mailing 100’s of gold

I have noticed that people seem to claim that they got it first try or that they have put in thousands of gold to no avail.

Both are most likely false. Based on the cost of the precursors, It would seem to me that you should be looking at saving up to buy one. Why? Given the information I have seen I estimate that Rares have a close to .015% chance for a precursor and Exotics are closer to 1%.

Rares are easier to craft and they exotics they make can be used to help fund further crafting of rares. 4 Exotics are too costly for the most part. Dungeon token purchased ones may be the exception since if you cant use them they are only going to net you less the 1 G in ecto on average. Run alot of dungeons? You might try exotics.

back when bloods and totems were 25s a piece turning tier 5 into 6 was a gain as long as you got over 6 i think… now you almost need to get double digits for there to be profit.

I think the simple truth is that the grind of farming 2 specific lodestones (Charged, Onyx) is similar to the time it would take to farm the other lodestones assuming the sparks/ earth eles were availible 100% of the time.

Due to lower demand for the other cores and lodestones their price remains stable, while these 2 have high demand AND difficult to farm supply.

The issue alot of us have is that even if the rate of time was .66 LS/hour in dungeon tokens (I think running all 3 AC paths in about 1 hour = they would be 300 tokens per lode stone) we would feel like we have a tangible way of achieving them and wouldn’t feel like we will have to grind for who knows how long to get them.

I actually think the best way to handle this would actually be to require MORE lodestones for legendary gifts, but increase the drop rate at LEAST 3 fold. Farming sparks for 2 hours until my eyes hurt from the bright attacks they make and having no lode stones to show for it is very disheartening

I thought I would ask those who have successfully completed one Legendary how they maintained their motivation? While its mainly directed at those that have completed one, everyone is welcome to post their opinion

(below is just some rambling thoughts that you are welcome to skip if you just want to start the discussion)

A few months back I decided I would begin work on my Legendary short bow. I saw that it required 0 Lodestones and was a reasonable precursor. Since then I realized that I don’t use a short bow near often enough and that I don’t really like rainbow unicorn bows enough. Fractals came out and I made a quiver for one of my mains, but after that I began the work of building a different Legendary. [ I didn’t waste any effort since I always knew that there was a chance I might go for a different one, so I started with generic prereqs] I began my work on a Great Sword for my main which a i use all the time.

Now here I am. I have my Mastery gift, a gift of metal, all the mats for either gift of Sunrise or twilight except the Lodestones, all the ecto and mystic clovers and most of the rest of the gift of futune. Also need a precursor.

So here I am. I feel like I have been working hard on my goal but still feel miles away. How do I keep myself going? Should I take a break?

Bolt is only 100 charged lodestones + everything else. I have everything else pretty much.

Wow I came to post the exact same thing!

I just finished “farming” sparks in Malchor’s deep for over an hour with 0 charged lodestones to show for it. I don’t mind that they are hard to get since they are a major time/gold sink in the game. What I do mind is that there is no way I as a regular player have a chance of getting a legendary within six months of 1 hour a day farming sparks If I had to rely on this current drop rate and couldn’t get them off the tp.

I didn’t rush a legendary like the most hard core gamers, but I am what most would call a no lifer. I play more then I should =) Its discouraging to feel like I have to do X amount of dungeon runs to buy lodestones because farming them is completely out of the question.

I don’t want them to be cheap or common. That’s the point of the cosmetic skins. But I do want them to at least be close to on par with the other lodestones and I think thats what the OP was saying.

With out knowing the drop rate info, I would assume that the price is so high due to demand. With charged LS being used in many recipes and in large quantities is tough to think that there are LS that are even close to the same price so maybe we are all wrong.

All I want is to be able to make 1 <———- ONE skin w/o spending over 300 hours farming the same area for 1 piece of the item. god forbid I wanted to make multiple!

Preface this by saying I love the Bolt and I am working on it zealously. I love the way the sword looks and the effects of it are awesome in my opinion. I also really like the Thor god of thunder type Guardian.

I really cant see me ever getting a GS legendary so Bolt is a good goal instead.

• My question is
  A). What focus should I get to go with Bolt? I was thinking maybe courage or chalice of the gods. The chains look like they might be cool too. Not sure which matches the rest of the idea best though

• B). What build is best for PvE and WvW that uses 1h sword? I run Altruistic healing and i like it well enough, but the off sword/off hand doesnt complement AH like most of the 2h weapons do so what build would you guys suggest?

Actually by posting this in a Gw2 forum and even the bet was regarding a gw2 holiday item, it would make sense that it was gw2 gold.

The devils in the details. You posted this on a GW2 forum with a bet of 100 gold. You claim that by not setting out certain terms that you maintain the right to return the “gold” in an alternate form of currency. The other person in this bet is a Gw2 player who may or may not have access to gw1, dioblo 3, or even 100 gold real life. Thus the only currency that can have the bet paid out on would be Gw2 gold.

212 powerful venom sacks
125-150 Gold for precursor and 1 other recipe

I have about 15G on hand currently that i can use to invest or buy mats
I have everything else other then that. How much longer should that take to get? Any helpful hints are things I can do that might make it easier? How fast could YOU do it?

So I have been kicking around the idea of trying to get my precursor via the mystic forge and based on the prices I see on the TP I feel comfortable assuming a 1% chance if all 4 items are Exotic weapons.

That may be incorrect and if anyone had more solid number I would love to know!

But based on a 1% chance and a Price of 2G per exotic great sword wouldn’t the cost of 100 attempts be 8g+ (6g * 99) = 602G

Based on that, It seems a much better investment to just save up for them and buy them off the TP at their current price.

For rares I am working on a assumed .1% chance. lets also assume you can buy Rare Great swords at 30S. then 100 attampts would look something like this
1.2G +(.90G *99) = 90.3g which is clearly way too low a cost. So the actual % is probably closer to .025% maybe?

I would join something like this. I have no problem giving someone all my Gossamer since I don’t need it And there are other mats that someone else needs that I have.

Imho it should be a fair exchange (E.G. I have 10 Gossamer sold at 3s for one glob of ecto for 30S) This removes the 15% fee for buying and selling and well help everyone in the guild get their Legendary at least 15% faster.

If the guild leader already had his legendary and stood to gain “nothing” people would be less skeptical. When people work with one another the most positive results can be made.

I like your idea, but I am tethered to one server so I wouldn’t always be able to help those in need. Although I have no problem helping pretty much anyone who asks =)

Yes I will be able to afford to repay everyone within 6 months based on current projections. and yes I would be willing to repay 25% on a loan in order to get my legendary sooner. For me my legendary isn’t the ultimate goal. Its a big one, but not the end of my enjoyment of Gw2. I enjoy farming as i said and have just started touching fractals. I enjoy WvW but want to get more organized and feel like I have accomplished my biggest farming goal before I spend too much time in it.

Anyway, this was just a thought. If it doesn’t work out, so be it =). Is it crazy? Yep. But so are alot of kickstarter ideas! Sometimes people see them and want to make a small donation and sometimes people see them and think that the person is crazy and there is no way in kitten that i would donate 1 copper.

FYI for those who do invest Gold in the TP they can tell you that what I am offering in return is a very small amount. 25% of 100 gold in 6 months would be a terrible rate of return for most people who play the TP. If you are interested in making more gold faster there are a number of good threads in the black lion trading post sub forum

I am Norn, because Norn is the best race. (is that racist?) I think I am going to keep working towards Sunrise. Its been my goal from day 1 and I think it fits the gaurdian perfectly. Thanks for the input guys!

I am at a cross roads.

On one hand I really want to make Sunrise for my Gaurdian. I have everything but the gold to buy the precursor and everything else I need so I need to be saving up.

On the other hand I could spend the 100+ gold I have been saving up on some cultural armor or the like.

I have full exotic gear and enjoy farming dungeons, CS, and light WvW. Unfortunately when i look at how much further I have to go for my Legendary it feels like I better not spend 1 copper because its going to take me forever anyway to farm those mats.

What should I do?

If halloween is an indication you should be fine… They do scale for some instances much like WvW if need be

As many of you already know, getting all your mats for a Legendary can be a huge task and If you pursue it too heavily then you might get burnt out. If you are like me, you saw the legendary as a awesome reward that you just had to work towards!

So I did! Started with the dungeons and crafting I would need. Then the world exploration. Then WvW badges. Got My 250 obsidian shards. Next I made 77 Mystic clovers. I was feeling really really close to my Legendary! So I sat down and did some quick math to see how much Gold I would need since I am only a few skill points away from the 200 I need for a Bloodstone shard. T6 mats sure are pricey but I have a few of them already. Oh and my precursor! After a quick ten minutes passed I realized that I was only 1100 Gold away from my very own legendary!

A quick look over my finances showed me just how far I actually had to go. I farm roughly 10G a day and don’t mess with the TP very much. 1100/10= 110 days= 1 million years in gamer time

So I came up with a plan!
You may be familiar with kickstarter Its a website were people state a goal for money (and what they plan on using it for) and then people donate. But if the persons Goal isn’t reached in donations by the end of the time frame no money exchanges hands and people can donate to some other cool idea.

So my idea is this: I will leave this post up for 1 week and If you would like to donate post below, but if we don’t reach our goal of 1100 gold then you don’t have to send me any gold (unless you just wanted too.

But I don’t just want your gold! I will be paying back my donors as I farm the gold starting with the highest doners first!

Much like kickstarter I have rewards for my doners

1g to 5g -110% of your gold will be returned to you within 6 months
5g1c to 20g – 120% of your gold will be returned to you within 6 months
20g1c and up- 125% of your gold will be returned to you within 6 months

The first doner will get to choose my color scheme for my armor until all the gold is returned to the donors!

The Largest doner will get to determine what North American server I will call home. As well as an extra guild member should they desire a person with 3 level 80s and entirely too much free time.

As I come up with more rewards I may add them! Feel free to suggest some that you might like to see.

Would you like to Donate mats instead of gold? Mats are actually better because their price doesn’t flux. I will note the current buy Price of when I get the mats and count that as your donation amount!

I can Rush a 80 in 4 days, but I have large enough resource pools to craft 3-4 prof to max. Other then that dont worry about map completion and Jump in a Speed AC dungeon run when you can quickly (The XP is too good for the short amount of time since you cant run Cof p1 yet)

Lets Say I really like the look if the cultural tier 2 armour for my guy but he is only level 14. Can I use transmutation stones to put the look on a piece of Low end armour that my guy can wear?

I tried to search the forums for an answer but I didn’t find anything.

Is their some way I can get the Tier 2 Cultural armour look with out being level 60?

ya a good dungeon group can run one in 20-30 minutes but the time sink of finding that group has to be considered as well

I have a max level 80 that has fully explored everything! But I am 60 skill points shy of my bloodstone for my legendary. So Where is the best place to use my time?

Orr Dynamic events? Dungeons? Fractals?

I have an Eldritch scroll that I got on my necro a long time ago and was wondering what I should make with it that will pay the most for the 50 skill points in mats… then i got to wondering what is the best way to make gold with your skill points?

Anyone have any experiance with this? What should i use that scroll for?

When I make a new character I think about if I want to make it a cool character or some lame one. When I choose cool, I choose Norn.
