I agree that doing what you suggest would result in a fun class however this would require much work tweaking then just removing the energy cost from weaponskills which I also think would work. The main issue right now is just energy in general and the amount of energy used per ability. Starting off with 50 energy is just silly first of all considering we have skills that cost that much so we could literally enter the fight with 0 energy if we so chose to use one of those said skills. Current energy regen is far too low as well we can’t react to crap in combat unless we’ve been using AA the whole time just waiting for something to happen. Having weapon skills cost energy makes the problem worse. No other class has to sacrifice their damage to use a utility. Utilities are essentially your “Oh kitten” buttons and the fact that we as Revs could literally remove our ability to hit said button just because we chose to do damage and participate in a game about combat puts us at a huge disadvantage from every other class. Rev is most like Thief when compared to the other classes. Not only can a Thief attack more then us with their initiative ,but they can also use their utilities at the cost of a simple cd and without sacrificing their ability to deal damage. If we can’t match that level of effectiveness we will never be viable.
The very word UPKEEP destroys your logic if they weren’t meant to be used over a long period then they should of just called them “toggle on then immediately toggle back off” gg….
I think the best solution here is to remove the energy cost on weapon skills. As it stands right now you currently can’t do anything but auto attack with an upkeep skill running anyway.
But instead of talking about energy costs and things like aftercast on Upkeeps you want to remove energy from Weapons to make the Rev a Faceroll Warrior 2.0 with a simple rotation?
Upkeeps arent intened to be up for a long time – their use is to create a huge benefit for a short time period or a sigthly longer time if you dont use anything else beside AA
there is stuff where energy needs to be reduced (mostly utilities) but not removed (aside from healing skills – im ok if the energy is removed on them)
Rev has shorter CDs on its skills because of the energy usage the whole class plays around the energy management.
The Revenant could never be as faceroll as a Warrior because at the end of the day the Warrior does not have to manage a resource at all. We would still need to manage energy yet we would actually have some of it to manage unlike now where we get to use 1 utility a fight if we still want to do some damage. "their use is to create a huge benefit for a short time period. " Oh really I was unaware that Vengeful Hammers provided a “huge” benefit over a short period of time.
There is still plenty of skill of needed to play a Rev without the weaponskills costing energy and having to micro manage that with weapon swaps and legend swaps. Just look at Sword 3 use it at the wrong time and you don’t land a single hit or get killed during the animation.
Oh and shorter cooldowns like what?! A Medi DPS Guard’s entire GS combo is on a shorter cd then Rev’s.
(edited by Griffith.7238)
Also I think adding some energy generation to auto attack would make huge improvements and not disrupt balance. Essentially the only upkeep that you could say really grants any sort of value you for toggling it on and off quickly is the Mallyx elite and maybe Impossible Odds to get a quick stomp ,but for the most part upkeeps are designed to give you maximum benefit over a longer period of time. I see nothing wrong with being able to keep them up infinitely at the cost of not being able to really use any other utilities as that would be the trade off. Upkeep vs. Fire and Forget Utilities that should be the choice to make as a Rev.
Man thank you for this I love when people take the time to present irrefutable evidence (Math OP). Although I didn’t take the time to run the numbers myself I can see this clear as day when testing out TTK’s using my other classes burst combo’s. None of them could touch the combo I use on my Rev. I honestly don’t see how other people can even complain the sword while buggy at times does incredible amounts of damage when it works.
I think the best solution here is to remove the energy cost on weapon skills. As it stands right now you currently can’t do anything but auto attack with an upkeep skill running anyway. I think the player should be given the option to A. Marginally increase their combat effectiveness via an upkeep skill that can assist their energy free weaponskills or B. Save the energy that would be used on upkeep for the higher costing utilities and ultimates to have a more immediate effect on your combat abilities when and where you want it. Essentially upkeep skills give you a slight and more sustained boost to your combat abilities where as everything else is more “bursty” (and not just in terms of damage but bursty support, control, etc. ). Right now energy or rather the abilities energy cost is so insane that you can barely use any utilities or god forbid and ultimate and still have something left to use those weapon skills that are coming off cd. The cd on the weaponskills is more then enough to balance them they don’t need to take us away from our ability to utilize the legends.
Oh let me add yet another amazing thing about Revs. Infinite swiftness out of combat. Pop Impossible Odds wait until right before you run out of energy and then switch Legends immediately switch back to Shiro at 50 energy and pop IO again. Your welcome.
Yeah, I already asked that in another thread and Roy said it won’t be possible in the next BW. You’re welcome xD
LOL RIP =(

As for Shiro heal that idea with lifesteal was…not so good. It should heal 6,5k, daggers can stay to deal damage tho.
I wouldn’t bother using Shiro heal for anything other then damage.
but almost nobody is really caring about damage anymore. What revenant lacks is survivability, bugfixes and no cd on healing daggers tics.
I agree there are some serious bugfixes that need to happen (Vengeful Hammers getting cut off when it hits an object, Unrelenting Assault just stopping for no reason, and many more) ,but there is absolutely nothing wrong with Rev survivability. We get two heals all of which are just as effective as the one that every other class gets. We get a 50 energy ultimate that reduces all damage taken for us and nearby allies by 50%. We have what seems to be the most health return on hit of any class in the game. Traits that give us protection when disabled. Stability on dodge roll and Jalis’s Inspiring Reinforcement (which btw is infinite stability provided you do nothing but auto inbetween using it). Where are you getting this logic from?
Draxynnic you seem to have the right mindset about the class in general and have noticed many of the solid combinations they have access too. I personally find that Shiro does wonders for every single weapon set Revs have access too. Impossible Odds is just down right disgusting.
I am currently running Sword/Axe/Hammer with Shiro/Jalis for PvE and Shiro/Mallyx for PvP. As far as PvE goes I admit I rarely weapon swap to Hammer ,but that is not because the weapon isn’t good or doesn’t synergize with Sword/Axe just that I prefer melee and until I’m presented with a need to switch I won’t. I find it silly that people think you can’t melee in Verdant Brink. If in a single target fight I have a combo that has not a single time failed to kill a basic mob by the time it is finished. Starts with Enchanted Daggers (Shiro’s Heal) —> Frigid Blitz (Axe 1, btw this is not a kitten Condi weapon Frigid Blitz hits hard as hell with power builds) —> Temporal Rift (Axe 2) —> Unrelenting Assault (Sword 3) and this combo is only on a 30 sec cd. Out of all the classes I play (Warrior, Thief, Guardian, Ranger) none can match this level of burst with any build exluding trap Guards ,but then again that requires help from the enemy to work as they actually have to walk into them. I can kill Chieftan before he lands a single attack on me with this combo (though it does take more then just this combo to kill him ,but it provides a large portion of the damage). If the fight will require AoE I simply switch to Jalis throw up Vengeful Hammers wade in and use Temporal Rift, Precision Strike, and Sword auto until everything falls over. With the amount of Siphon you get from traits and various abilities I am always able to use Shiro’s Heal offensively and
often rarely have to use Jalis heal at all. Everyone keeps complaining about getting cc’d which is a joke we get freaking stability on dodge rolls and have a near infinite stability with Jalis.
For PvP I would swap Jalis for Mallyx to control those condi builds and benefit from resistance as well as stopping enemy reviving/stomping outright by using Unyielding Anguish on the downed player. The single target or 1v1 aspect of the build
utilizes the same combo as in PvE it positively melts players. In the case of PvE the Hammer becomes my primary AoE weapon combining it with Shiro’s Impossible Odds to get those slow attacks off faster.
Those people complaining about the effectiveness of this class probably didn’t even bother to get out of that Celestial gear they spawned in with. I could see the gripe with condi builds on this class ,but when it comes to Power and Support builds this class is incredible. So much ulility (literally) and so much versatility.
I’ll give some of you a bit of slack because we haven’t had much time with the profession although it personally only took me a few hours, but if you think this class is weak in any facet you need to take a harder look at their kit. Those of you that think this class doesn’t put out much damage couldn’t be more wrong. I have extensive experience with Warrior, Thief, Guardian, and Ranger and I can say with 100% certainty that none of those classes can match the burst potential of the Revenant. I have 1 particular combo that does such much damage it couldn’t possibly be replicated on any of those 4 classes. Those of you saying that the weapon sets were tailored for specific legends also couldn’t be more wrong. The Hammer was introduced with Jalis ,but go ahead and use it with Shiro and watch the magic happen. The Hammer does a tremendous amount of damage ,but the attacks are quite slow so throw on Impossible Odds and then use them and watch your targets get completely blown away.
You might have been able to say this class was weak and lacked viability pre weapon swap and Shiro ,but now that could not be further from the case. Being the only class that can swap utilities in combat, use two back to back heals, have ultimates with no cooldowns of which they get two, and now can weapon swap revs are easily one of if not the most versatile class in the game.
I know it was a long post, but perhaps you should read it again.
I can’t as it looks like your post was deleted. Perhaps it was for attacking and belittling another person that posted in this thread. That doesn’t speak well for the pro dueling argument when you do so.
Argument of the day: I don’t want something added because even if implemented in a way that I would never have see it or experience it it would still effect me.
I know you do not share these views, but there are those that do. Perhaps you should go troll them instead of me.
I know it was a long post, but perhaps you should read it again.

Funny because everyone else has been insulting each other all day, but thats ok I could simply copy and paste it right back in with a few alterations. If you think that guy didn’t need to be called out for his behavior then I guess you weren’t reading his posts. I also wasn’t “attacking” anyone I simply posted about an observation I made while reading through the thread. You acting like my one post brings some negative light to duelers when the anti dueling community has been way more irrational throughout this whole ordeal is hilarious.
You people need to learn compromise this game is not your baby.
Many people in this thread and others on this topic have offered ideas as a compromise toward PvE dueling. But you, like the many others in the pro dueling crowd have once again chosen to ignore that and act as if those against dueling are just naysayers.
There are just as many people that have offered no compromise as there are that have. This comment was directed as those people. Also you should note I didn’t voice an opinion on how dueling should be implemented (aka don’t tell me I advocate “PvE Dueling”) I just simply said I’m for dueling. I know it was a long post, but perhaps you should read it again.
I don’t mean that “slightly” reducing the effectiveness of stealth would break Thieves. I meant that removing it from the game kitten many of these mentally unstable people seem to want would most certainly break Thieves.
don’t insult people on the forums, please.
Pure invisibility is hard to balance and it really shows. As a thief some people see you non stop, because they were still channeling skills when you went stealthed and for other people it’s completely not fair because they have no way to catch you, block you, avoid you or unstealth you.
Out of all the games that even adopted the stealth mechanic, WoW did it best – if rogues are close enough to you, they’re see trough but visible.
But overall I would like to see the mechanic gone from gaming. It simply does not bode well with player versus player and it’s too hard to balance fairly. Heck even single player RPGs (Elder Scrolls) shied away from it, because it could make majority of the content moot and easy to pretty much cheat.
The game is as it is. They won’t change mechanics to do with the class and won’t realistically rebalance it well. But if they instead took mechanic out and replaced it with something else, PvP might be better off.
Also bare in mind that this is not the only mechanic in game that I take issue to and that I’m well aware that the game won’t get drastic changes. So I express my opinion here in a purely theorethical way. However I would like not to be called mentally unstable for it.
Well I’m not sure what to call it when someone thinks that Thieves are even in the same league as WoW Rogues or that stealth in WoW is less OP then stealth in GW2. First off WoW Rogues can be super survivable with recup and defensives secondly you get perma stealth in WoW with several easy restealths always available. You get the same restealths in GW2 with the exception that Thieves don’t have even a quarter of the defensive capabilities of a WoW Rogue.
You people don’t seem to understand overall balance. You can’t nerf something without buffing something in return. Like Zero pointed out with WoW Rogues. They have a decent amount of survivability outside of stealth. This is not the case with GW2 Thieves. They are like literally the squishiest class in the game. If you take away stealth from Thieves without buffing their natural defenses they will be utter garbage. And as someone else mentioned you should focus on kitten like kittened faceroll engies before you even think about trying to change stealth.
Like I wouldn’t even really have an issue with what the OP is suggesting, but the whole way you guys are going about this argument is just kittened. All the stealth haters don’t get that the Thief is one of the hardest classes in this game to play and that without stealth they would get crushed in every fight with ease. Hell just get any class that does made AoE dmg and Thieves get blown up going anywhere near them.
First of all you can nerf without buffing, Anet has done this too many times to count (e.g Flanking strike nerf didnt mean an increase in FS damage or longer evade duration and the latest Might nerf didnt mean a global increase in might duration) If Backstab was hitting 15k without vuln and might stacking, it would be nerfed period, armour wouldnt be simultaneously increased.
Secondly this idea thieves have that if you arent in stealth death is imminent, this sort of thinking is the reason for too many bad thieves I am a Dragon that has been using the thief class in pvp only for the past 4 months, and since day one my build has been an evade style one. I have never used shadow refuge, neither do i spam black powder/heartseeker or cloak and dagger, I also do not run shortbow. Lack of shortbow mobility should mean i should emphasize stealth right? wrong, this is a misconception that has gone on for long enough.
To emphasize my point, i should say again that i mained necro since 2012 so an evade thief is nothing like a necro. I say all this because making stealth slightly less effective absolutely does not mean thieves would be helpless.
I still think active stealth tracking only abilites for engis and stealthless classes should be enough. Even if you can detect where an invisible player is, you cannot target so you can only follow or try to ground target aoe and any thief worth anything can still get away. The only thing is backstab might be a little more difficult (not impossible) to get off which is fair considering the damage it does and that thieves have immobilizes all over the place.
Perhaps I worded some things poorly. I don’t mean that “slightly” reducing the effectiveness of stealth would break Thieves. I meant that removing it from the game kitten many of these mentally unstable people seem to want would most certainly break Thieves. Hence why I said I have no issues with what the OP suggested.
Just because you choose not to use stealth and your build just so happens to be viable doesn’t mean stealth needs to be removed or receive a hard nerf. The type of playstyle that the Thief represents is one where the player can pick and choose their battles. Sure this may seem OP, but it comes at the cost of lack of utility and general tankiness. If they were to add stealth tracking in any form or fashion it would completely ruin stealth and they might as well just take it out of the game at that point. This type of playstyle will always exist in every MMO and I can’t believe people haven’t gotten over this by now. From the outside looking in everything seems so OP and awesome on the Thief, but people don’t see that downside like having kitten Utility(which leads to being passed over for PvE content among other things), and being squishy as all hell. Thieves have arguably the highest skill cap out of all the classes, and I for one am a strong believer that if you master something not many people can it needs to be extremely rewarding. All these people crying for stealth nerfs just spit all over that ideology.
There are dozens of mechanics that allow people to simply flee combat. I’m ok with speed buffs and teleports, but the ability to just jump repeatedly and get away is total horse kitten. They need to make it much harder for people to just run away and wait for someone to be in a compromised position. Fights feel meaningless when half the time it ends with the person that was losing simply running away.
Consider it a victory if they run away.
Plus most of the time fighting/killing is a side objective…
But really, that’s a personal issue on how you view things.
Exactly people act like its Team Deathmatch. They aren’t satisfied with just getting an objective when that is the whole point anyway.
You people don’t seem to understand overall balance. You can’t nerf something without buffing something in return. Like Zero pointed out with WoW Rogues. They have a decent amount of survivability outside of stealth. This is not the case with GW2 Thieves. They are like literally the squishiest class in the game. I’m the farthest thing from a casual player. I clear all paths of Arah on a daily basis, but even i can see the obvious flaws in some of the dungeon design just for Arah specifically. While i love the idea of locking out the wp zerg for boss fights as i feel that is skillless and stupid, I must admit some of the game mechanics are truly f*ed up. I find it hilarious that the trash mobs in Arah are harder then almost every single boss. I have a lot of gripes with Lupi specifically. I am fine with no trinity provided they give individual classes the tools they need to survive, but I am not ok with no defined aggro system. Lupi likes to focus someone like crazy and if that person isnt say a thief it is only a matter of time before they run out of evades and other skills before they are inevitably downed. Which is ok in most fights as its not that hard to get someone back up. For lupi however, it can be quite difficult especially if he is standing right on top of the downed player. Again i love the challenge of fighting Lupi daily but the dungeons in this game need a metric kitten ton of polish before they really meet my standards.
Arent the Omnomberry pies broken though as they do not have an internal cooldown and thus making them extremely OP?
You give up defensive stats for precision to make then work, i disagree.
What does this even mean? Do you even know what Omnomberry pie does? You get a 66% chance to steal life on a critical strike. With no internal cooldown that means the less defensive stats you have the better. The more crits you are doing the better off you are defensively as you are going to be healing like crazy.
for those of you who never gamed BEFORE damage meters were out? you measure your success the same way we used to:
1) is your group killing the bad guy?
2) is your group living?if these two things are answered yes? you’re doing it right. that’s all that matters.
This couldn’t be more wrong. Just because you killed a boss doesn’t really mean you did anything right if you struggled like crazy through the whole thing with snail like damage being done to the boss and certain group members going down every two seconds. MMOs and games in general are made to cater to a multitude of people. Thats what makes them profitable. People can do what they want and play how they want. It is insanely selfish that people flame others for wanting more features in the game when features are optional and even if they added them the haters wouldnt have to use them. The more i read the more i wonder if half of the people that respond in the forums even think about the nonsense they spew or if they even read the posts before theirs to try and understand another persons point of view. Min/Maxing has always been a very attractive part of MMOs people like myself enjoy analyzing our builds to the T and spending a ton of time figuring out how to gear ourselves just so that we may be more effective in a group or even a solo environtment. Damage meters would make this process that much more enjoyable as we can actually see tangible results of our work in the form of hard data. Again damage meters dont just refer to damage but to healing, damage taken, revives, etc. Everyone keeps talking about elitists, but no one seems to actually read other peoples posts. Elitist are already here and they will be in every mmo and every game out there. People are getting turned down for groups because of their class. That has nothing to do with damage meters. I would love to see someone respond to my posts specifically with any form of a logical rebutle instead of just spewing out the same old bs about elitists. Yes, Damge Meters may put pressure on players to work on their builds and yes people may be insulted for their lack of “numbers” if they were added. But you dont always need damager meters to see when a player is performing poorly. And the most glorious thing about MMOs is that if you could care less about your group effectiveness then you don’t have to play with people that do care about your group effectiveness.
PS. Damage Meters didnt ruin anything in WoW, Gearscore did.
Now please prove me wrong i dare you.
Arent the Omnomberry pies broken though as they do not have an internal cooldown and thus making them extremely OP?
I find everyone’s logic on why damage meters would be a bad thing to be down right silly … “Oh I’m not going to revive this player cause it will drop my MAD DEEPS” … Like really? Anet put a lot of work into making this game a cohesive team building experience and damage meters arent going to change that. At the end of the day you are trying to get kitten done and not reviving a player when you can easily do so just to keep your damage up is highly inefficient. Why would any player opt to not revive an ally when doing so might very well end in the whole group wiping. Less people in the fight means less people to absorb some of the damage and could end with everyone dying. Also sure the name “Damage Meter” implies only one thing but for anyone that knows what a legitimate damage meter is then they would know it doenst track just damage, but healing, damage taken, etc. Yes they did away with the Trinity but all these roles still exist in a diminshed form. You can still make builds that focus on high group or even single target healing. You can still make a build thats primary focus is to soak up damage dealt to you and your group. OH! and you can still make a build thats primary focus is to deal massive damage. What people need to realize is the only real way to see how effective these different builds are is some form of meters. With the near limitless amount of builds for each class you cant judge how effective your own build is based on how well any single group you are involved in does. You could be getting carried by someone with a great build or if the group does bad it may not have anything to do with you but you will never know for sure without any kind of meter.
As for all the people talking about how everyone that goes full glass cannon build may be less useful to a group, well that is very true and anyone that has played a game that relies heavily on damage meters such as WoW would know that pure damage does you no good even on the meter if you cant stay alive. So only a noob would go full gc just to top meters when up time on a boss will give you more productivity then just being able to do a ton of dmg before you get put on your kitten
Damage meters would not change this game one bit for the worse. Wake up people there are still elitists everywhere. Go use gw2lfg to find a group for Arah. Damage meters wont bring the elitists because they are already here and they arent ever going to go away regardless of the measures that Anet or any other company takes to ensure they have the best community out there. What meters will do is help hardcore players ensure that they are being the most productive for their group as they can be. I’m with you Domino.
Take that back the chart only seems to be accurate in a few zones … specifically ones with snow where there arent many textures intense textures
The chart on Toms at 1920×1080 is accurate for standard zones at least it appears to be i haven’t gone to that many zones. The fps in major cities however is far off. In Lions Arch at 4am not even peak hours I am getting 30 fps standing still and moving .. well .. lower then that.
According to the chart it is running around the frame rate it should be but again the chart does not specify what settings the chart was gathered using, It just says “average” frame rate. I do do not feel that I am running at the frame rate i should be given the quality of my rig. Also its now confirmed dropping the settings to Medium does almost nothing as well.
So I am currently running…
- AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB
- AMD FX-8150 8 Core CPU at 4.2 ghz
I am getting a steady 60 FPS on High settings (not max) in most typical zones and about 30-40 FPS in major cities and player hubs. I just built this rig a few days ago and i’m still in the process of updating windows fully ( graphics drivers fully updated ) which may or may not affect my performance in-game.
According to the chart posted here:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/bill-freist-talks-optimization-and-performance/
I am around the fps i should be though I’m not sure if the chart is for high settings or what. However, my friend who is using a 560 TI which is listed as having lower fps then my card is claiming to have 80 FPS in major cities on High settings. So unless my friend is lying to me something just isn’t adding up here. So thanks for reading any input would be much appreciated.
Also overlocking seems to have little to no effect

yeah i honestly don’t get it i mean my account hasnt even been compromised but my friends has and i’m upset over how they are handling things … like is their support team a bunch of 12 year olds in diapers .. they are going to start losing money the longer they drag this out .. and all of this could have been avoided if they had a call center .. sure its expensive but is required in this industry .. your account gets hacked in wow sure you ma;y be on hold for 2 hours but as soon as someone answers you have your account back 5 mins later .. this is just insane
but again Superior runes of Divinity/Dywana cannot be made from what i am seeing therefore can only be found in the world at random .. which i find a little lame
ah yes i rephrase that not unobtainable i have to buy them from the TP =(
Well if gw2db is at all accurate i can see that you are atleast partially correct however neither of the 2 professions that make runes (Armorsmithing and Tailoring) offer the runes i want. Not to mention if this truly is their system its absolutely horrid. How can you not tell me what I’m going to be able to make and instead force me to spend an insane amount of mats to get to 400 only to find out i can’t make at all what i wanted to be able to. This is truly upsetting considering you need runes and sigils to make any sort of legitimate build and the 2 i want are seemingly unobtainable.
Aside from the trainer himself telling me i can craft runes, I have seen in several other information outlets that i can craft runes as an Armorsmith. I am now 400 Armorsmithing and cant craft a single rune. I don’t know if this is a bug or if I’m just missing some well hidden karma vendor stocked full of recipes, but any feedback on this issue would be great.

yeah i’m not gonna do this then. i like being able to play
So as much as i love you guys this is getting a little insane. Not only am i due like 15 first place tourney rewards. But my friend and member of my tourney team has now had his account hacked and the email on his account changed and thus cannot even play. I understand that there must be a massive volume of issues that you are dealing with but first of all why in the name of everything holy do you guys not have a call center?! these hacked account issues could be resolved in under 30mins if everyone didn’t have to contact you through email. Not only that but if you are not going to attend to my friends issue (who by the way cannot even post on these forums as he doesn’t have access to his account… gg on that one) then you should at least update him on the status of his ticket instead of leaving him in the dark. I apologize for my demeaning tone but to be honest i expected better and i suggest you start offering authenticators asap to avoid these issues.
Thank you,
Griffith
