TBut to do a 180 from what you’ve been advertising for years as your core philosophy is something I am not used to. In that sense Anet have reached a new level of dishonesty that I simply haven’t seen.
New low. That’s a new one to my bullkitten list regarding gaming companies. Definitely.
You know it would be brilliant if it was confined within the fractals aka giant hamster wheel. But it’s not. WvW will suck more and more from this day and it will eventually be pay 2 win or grind your kitten off to win. Hopefully they were just testing reaction and will change directions, but i doubt it. This week is my last hope. I’ll be insisting on a refund either by agreement or action until then, but my 600+ hours invested and anticipation are gone for good.
(edited by Harbard.5738)
Heck I used to like ALL the content, especially WvW and dungeons. The new stuff is also brilliant, i loved the new dungeon. You see, it’s not hurting only your playstyle. It’s reaching just about EVERYONE who read those blog posts and thought “hey, finally a DIFFERENT mmo” in fact they were like “hey you’re gonna love it even if you hate mmos”. I mean geez, i just played all events and couldn’t have much fun anymore… all i see is how much potential wasted to this, erm “change of vision”.
RESPECT arenanet, RESPECT!
Cut them some slack, people. Everyone is acting so entitled demanding everything to be nice and perfect when it’s the first times they’re doing this kinda stuff!
Too bad the ridiculous circumstances in this patch overshadowed the event. Thought the event itself, I didn’t think it was a failure. It was less successful than halloween, technically, but it worked despite the lag and all. I really dig stuff that gives a sense of change and real-time happening to the world. It’s brilliant. I enjoyed this one and I enjoy the fact they’re doing this kinda thing on their game. It’s really sad they are going to come with bullkitten ascended stuff now every time they add fun stuff to do, but i think the events have been awesome and i’m sure they are gonna iron out the difficulties or design the new ones around technical limitations. In fact, it’s probably the only thing that will bring me back to see what’s going on in tyria every once in a while.
Thinking zergs, ideally. Otherwise, i’m good with the mindless zergs. Everything is more fun in a zerg and out in the open, even mining a resource node. Think about it! :P
And I do dig the minimalistic instanced group. I used to really like dungeons before they ruined the game for me. But yeah, if you manage to do whatever the hamsters did to this game, you’ll get them to change the game to whatever you want.
Yeah the dragons are pretty much breaindead and pushovers, but I really liked the event fight. I’m pretty sure you’re liking it a lot better because of the shinnies, but whatever. The fight was really good, despite of the lag and the other issues. In fact i think the whole new content is brilliant. Emphasis to CONTENT.
Take this into the math btw. Way higher:
http://www.gw2db.com/items/71382-lunaria-circle-of-the-moon-infused
At any rate the point of this topic is not how higher the stats, but the mandatory grind and it will keep coming according to them: Gear grind is gear grind, it was not the expectations they set. They tell you something and do something else, you buy something and get something else. This is disrespectful. Being left in the dark is also disrespectful (not to mention it makes it look like they don’t know what they’re doing).
(edited by Harbard.5738)
Let’s see how long it lasts.
“At the core of Guild Wars 2 is this simple concept. Respect for the player’s intelligence, respect for the player’s time, respect for the player’s investment, and respect, even reverence, for the genre.”
http://www.realmofgaming.com/reviews/pc/guildwars2/838.html
Respect for your intelligence: They tell you ascended is there to “fill the ‘gap’ between exotics and legendary”. Uhuh, right, all the sudden there’s a gap to be filled, folks! Then their initial response says a lot but gives no hard information on the future of the game. Don’t you find the double talk disrespectful?
Respect for your time: You follow the game for years, keep reading all that awesome “no grind” “is it fun?” “game we’d like to play” talk. It launches, it’s great, you invest 600+ hours into it thinking you’ll be playing an awesome game for years and BAM they bail on the game’s core ‘design philosophies’.
Respect for the player investment: Fully supportive players who have pre-purchased it after reading all the pretty blog posts can’t get a refund now they have decided to change the game.

“Respect the player
We respect you—as a player, as a human being. This game we’re making may end up competing with your real life. It might fight for your free time alongside your friends, your family, your work, and whatever else you might be doing. Because of that, we want to give you a meaningful experience, not one that is a vapid waste of your time. Whatever your reasons for spending time in Tyria, we don’t want to waste it by doing stuff that isn’t fun.
Purpose: To keep us honest"
If we can’t have the game that was sold, I think they should at least show us some respect in the coming communication.
(edited by Harbard.5738)
They said I can’t get a refund because I pre-purchased it in April because i’m a total idiot. My 600+ hours invested into this game are gone anyway. Sucks to feel like this. I mean, I was ready to feel like an idiot for being over-hyped or whatever, but this? Never saw this coming. At least not so soon and in such way. Better luck everyone else who’s trying.
I couldn’t get a refund because, guess what, I was suckered into pre-purchasing.

-Wardrobe/Armory to collect tons of different statted gear (of the same exotic level) for each occasion/build (armor that will last forever, mind you)
-Wardrobe for different looks
-Something to spend my skillpoints on, like slots to save builds, etc, not bullkitten 250 material mystic forge recipes
- New areas
-New story
- New PvP maps
- New WvW stuff for claimed keeps
- New REAL content
- Keep the events coming, you’ll never hear crap from me due to bugs, stuff not working as intended every now and then
- The whole “we want to make tyria a living breathing world” thing
- New events and stuff to do in ALL zones
- More events that change landscape, etc, that expand on current dynamic events
- Evolution of the world
- Stuff to do with alts (you know i used to have a long term goal to level all classes to 80, but now they screwed that too)
- Other fun activities like minigames
- More skills
- More weapon types
- Classes 100% working and balanced
They can take their time, i’m not in a hurry
They were delivering on everything, the game was doing great except that all of sudden they have decided to take a dump on everything they were doing.
Anything but this gimmicky desperate cutthroat bullkitten. i’d even keep playing without any of the above if they hadn’t done what they did.

Refund requested.
Farmers are so sad. C’mon guys it’s a game! Go farm RL for real $$, it’s a lot more profitable! I’m sure your time would be much better invested in business ventures or in the financial market.
*Exactly* what i was thinking. ToA was brilliant content but attached to a LOT of GEAR GRIND to the point it took ages to be ready for RvR. That, among other things, totally ruined the game. *To the point they had to make CLASSIC SERVERS where ToA wasn’t active.*
Take this kitten OUT:
http://www.gw2db.com/items/71383-solaria-circle-of-the-sun-infused
Stop adding new CRAP to get and add new REAL CONTENT (which they are). The new dungeon is brilliant so far. Too bad it seems to serve a kitteny design philosphy.
I’m not out yet, but I hardly see this going anywhere good, but there’s a little hope... pff
"What do you GW1 guys want from the game then? How are to keep a MMO fresh without introducing new content and gear? I’m just so confused by this"
If THAT is the kind of player paying for mmos then we better wait until we can crowdsource a real online GAME and not an online item dispenser with an attached hamster wheel. When we’re.. what, 70? lol
About to give up GW2. Just have to see how this kitten is going to play through. Little hope here.
Check this ring:

K, I see why we all have to panic now.
ONE ring to rule them all

Seriously now,
I think the worst is the "there’s a lot of room for item progression" talk.... i mean it’s either unfortunate communications or they really did push the ’kitten it’ button on their whole "core" philosophy for the game.
(edited by Harbard.5738)
For now the only thing we know is that ANet doesn’t have the best communication ever. No wonder the way things were worded would cause this reaction. Now let’s wait for the facts, to see if it’s actually that bad. But it definitely doesn’t bode well. A little hope here, though.
"This is just the beginning. In November, we’re only adding the first level of Infusions and Ascended Rings and Back slots, so that leaves us a lot of room to build upon these levels of Item progression in future content."
kitten me...
NO
Not excited at all. They better stop this "please everyone" crap and stick to their freakin manifesto.
Looking for a guild dedicated to ONLY running dungeons. From AC to Arah on a daily basis on any EU server. Heck even US servers will do. Can’t stand the LFG drill anymore.
sPvP feels WAY self-contained, it doesn’t even feel you’re playing the same character. I also feel it would be fun to have it as a way to make progress with your character (levels/karma etc) instead of feeding cows in PvE or forced into zerging in a very unbalanced gear-based WvW.
Also, why not make the cosmetic rewards you receive transmutable into PvE gear? Would make them skins way more valuable and even get you guys extra micro transactions.
Anything that connects sPvP more to your character and the rest f the game would be very welcome.
Hell! I’d even have a dolyak that runs SLOWER! Just because it’s FUN
Apparently we can’t have FUN can’t we?
Stop the crap about waypoints and swiftness already. This is not about speed.
2x Guardian and Elementalist no speed boosts
BUT I eat candy corn for the final jump
Hardest part is dealing with the horrible camera clipping, the bug booting you for no reason and the huge kitten norns blocking the view in the beginning.
We don’t want easier dungeons, we don’t want less "work" to get stuff! We just want VARIETY, we want FUN (that’s what you pay game companies for, by the way, some MMOers don’t seem to grasp that concept). We also want to be able to play with our friends or pug faster and not endlessly shout LFG [insert specific boring kitten farm dungeon here]. You know do something different, challenging for the stuff we want.
I suggested that instead of a locker or npc, it’s integrated in the UI and easy to switch to, like town clothing is. Also you could unlock more "storage space" or equipment set tabs by spending skill points.
Amazing how there are people willing to pay for a game then pay 3x times what they paid to have nothing left to do at it.
Hah I just opened a thread on this.
That’s pretty much what I had suggested. I suppose many people would like this, if you do, support us.
That’s not what I suggested. I suggested we could switch whole sets of gear and the moe skill points you invest the more "stored" gear you could have to switch to. Some sort of an armory that can be expanded infinitely with skill points.
It’s all about gear sets for different roles/builds or even just looks.
I think we need a system in which we could switch whole sets of gear and the more skill points you invest the more "stored" gear you could have to switch to. Some sort of an armory that can be expanded infinitely with skill points.
You could unlock an equipment tab with X skill points, be able to name it and pick it up from a drop down list on your hero panel. Armor/weapon sets and jewelry could have their own separate set of tabs.
This way you could collect armor weapons and jewelry and make sets for different purposes and switch between them without having to do it manually all the time (it’s clunky, messy and takes ridiculous storage space). I’m sure a save/load system for builds is definitely coming and it would work great with this system I’m suggesting.
So, your dungeon team needs you to be "tanky"? Switch to your toughness gear you named "Juggenaut" or whatever then load your "tanky" build. Isn’t it cool?
It adds flexibility to your char and it gives you a reason to keep playing your char past 80, progressing horizontally instead of vertically, without the ridiculous stat inflation of traditional mmos.
What does everyone think?
(edited by Harbard.5738)
Yeah, i think they went for this system as opposed of one similar to LOTRO’s wardrobe in the hopes to boost microtransactions. But I’d say having buyable tabs for cosmetic overlays like in lotro could be more lucrative and liked by the player base, because it’s a permanent improvement that can be be bought ad infinitum, and gives a sense of horizontal progression as you diversify your looks. It’s a win/win imo.
Another option would be a way to automatically swap gear, like equipment tabs. So you’re not only swapping looks, but you’re swapping your gear for different situations. You can even make it look like the archetype you’re building with those stats, by using the current transmutation system. You could unlock those tabs with skill points, which would give you increased flexibility as you level past 80, more horizontal progression to you char. That would work very well with saved builds. I’ll have to make a separate post about this suggestion someday.
MF is a downright kitten attribute. Simple as that. It’s great as a food buff maybe but it doesn’t work for gear, period. The result of it is that you’re always teaming up with greedy kitten people (80% of the mmo playerbase i’d guess) packed up with with MF while lacking important stats. Just please take it out of gear already.
I’d gladly ride a dolyak with my norn and look completely in-character. Also what’s so bad about flying? Flying is awesome, flying is fun, why not? I say even add mounted combat!
Just keep the mounts exclusively PvE and blocked in cities and other hubs. But if there ever is mounted combat, that could be another layer of fun to WvW.
*Robert, please consider this:*
As far as heavy armor goes, being recognized for beating Arah several times, to me, means wearing a makeshift halloween costume. Seriously, aesthetics are not measurable and shouldn’t be linked to a single dungeon. That’s also a bad argument for keeping multiple currencies. Just give us a badge or title we can wear next to our names if we want. Like the star people get for world completion.
As for people flocking to easiest runs, it will be a good indicative they need a difficult boost/ balance while the deserted ones need a nerf/rebalance/fun mechanics. Sure it means more balancing work for ANet, but it also means better dungeons overall.
You also seem to assume people are only attracted to easy runs, but you seem to disregard that there are people going for FUN mechanics or harder runs as well. Let the stupid farmers bore themselves to death over faster *cosmetic* returns! And let us choose the dungeon we like best, even because it’s more challenging or more fun! What if i like Arah bc its fun/challenging but I think its set is hideous, while I love how AC set looks but hate the dungeon?
The way it is currently you just can’t play dungeons the way you want with who you want, because different friends have different gear goals. All of that so people can show off they finished a dungeon several times, even if they think the armors or weapons are ugly, and to artificially spread the dungeon-running population across all dungeons (which i’m not even sure is happening atm).
If you cant go with what I’m saying, you can certainly listen to Grumwulf, he has great ideas and logic arguments:
Just want to add to my above post: if you could only buy armor once you had the achievement for the whole dungeon, but these cost a universal token earned from any dungeon, but defeating a wing the very first time gave double or triple to usual reward, then what you will have is a system where people will be have a varied experience while at the same time being free to play with their friends. Simply by getting Dungeon Master you might be able to buy a whole set of your choice with weapons. Wouldn’t that be more epic than farming the same easiest wing over and over?
(edited by Harbard.5738)
All arguments about "making friends" hold no water. Especially considering the separate currencies also separate friends, forcing them to run different dungeons. When your friends are not online, you’re stuck with an EQ1 method to find dungeons and that’s just bad, period. If not fully automated, at least some sort of smart listing feature should be in place. Spamming chat or convincing your friends to run a dungeon with you (for nothing they would want) IF they’re all online is not an option.
Single currency for all dungeons/ current system discourages fun and varied gameplay with friends
Posted by: Harbard.5738
If the playerbase moves to a single dungeon/run it’s not the reward’s system fault, it’s because all other runs are boring or this specific run/dungeon is too short or too easy.
Moreover, if most of the player base buy games to have *fun* like I believe that’s GW2 selling point and the kind of player that the game attracts the most, they will play the dungeons they like best, the most fun, if not all, just for variety’s sake.
If it results in some dungeons/runs being less played, that will just show the devs which dungeons perhaps need work to be more fun/engaging.
On top of that, with the diminished returns system, variety in runs will actually be encouraged.
So, in the end, what is best? To have a restrictive system that forces you to repeat content or have a system where you play what you want and choose your rewards and are free to play with your friends the way you want without having to figure "ok A needs X runs here, then B needs Y runs there"?

All gear has exotic stats, they’re all equal in power to each other. Aesthetic value is not measurable and varies from person to person. I, for instance, think the heavy Arah gear looks like a makeshift halloween costume, even though it’s the last 80 dungeon, to me it’s probably the worst-looking armor in the entire game. So there’s no need to have a conversion rate in place other than 1 to 1.
And if people want to farm the "easiest" path in the "easiest" dungeon over and over let them play like zombies. It’s not like they’re gaining any unfair advantage over others.
Just a little positive feedback to brighten things in this section of the forums. =)
We just want to thank whoever came up with the reference in the last boss in Sorrow’s Embrance story mode. We all burst in laughter on TS the second we saw how the boss died!!
I encourage everyone to give their positive feedback on dungeons here.

It’s not grindy to get top stat gear, i fully agree and this post has nothing to do with it, if you don’t have the time/attention span to read a post to the end, don’t bother posting a reply.
The point of this post is that it’s extremely unrewarding to play the dungeons you want to play opposed to grinding the same dungeon over and over AND it keeps you from playing with your friends if you have different gear goals.

I think you are missing a core part of the OP’s argument.
Say there are friends A, B, C, D, and E. They’re played MMOs together in the past and want to run dungeons together. However, being human, they all have different preferences in what dungeon set look they like. A likes the Ascalonian, B likes Caud, C likes the Twilight set, etc.
However much grind it takes to get a set, they’ll have to do it 5 times over, each getting a full set of tokens for 4 dungeons they don’t want sets from. The only alternative is for the friends not to run the dungeons together – but its what they like to do. So, likely, they move on to another game.
Thank you for actually reading the post to the end and paying attention to its title.

Since kids have short attention span, here’s the short version:
The point of this post is that dungeon rewards, with multiple and specific currencies, reward boring and repetitive gameplay better. If you prefer varied and fresh dungeon runs over repeating the same 3 paths in the same dungeon over and over, as any sane human being, you end up with a bunch different tokens and never get to finish a set. it forces you to play in dungeons you don’t like as well, which is made much worse if you’re playing with friends with different gear goals, making "dungeon crawling" with them a very repetitive grinding experience, which diverges from the whole advertised ’philosophy’ behind the game.
------------
How it becomes limited and grindy:
So, if I want to get a full set of Ascalon Catacombs armor, two axes and a greatsword for my warrior I’ll need to run it.
Armor: 180+160+260+180+240+180 = 1020 1020/60 = 17 runs
Weapons: 300 x 2 + 390 = 990 990/60 = 17 runs
Now let’s say each of my friends want different sets. So make that 170 runs, in only 5 of all dungeons.
You’re asking my friends, who want other sets from other dungeons and don’t like AC to run AC this many times, and you’re asking of me to run their dungeons as well over and over 37 times each. What if we all want to run dungeons that don’t give stuff we want? Like we really like Twilight Arbor and I don’t wanna look like a freaking cabbage head? Why can’t we play the dungeons we want and choose our rewards?
Right now it’s like oh kitten, my friend wants a ghastly axe but AC is so boring so i’ll just tell him to get a pug and not actually play with him or suffer through the dungeon run that was forced on me to play with my friends.
What if we want to run each dungeon’s path once, what do I get in the end with those different tokens? A disjointed-looking set and no weapon at all? Diminished rewards for taking the less repetitive more enjoyable approach to dungeons? oO
SOLUTION TO MAKE THE SYSTEM FLEXIBLE AND FREE PEOPLE TO CHOOSE WHICH DUNGEONS THEY WANT TO PLAY:
A possible solution to make it not grindy, flexible and make playing with friends FUN is to make an unified dungeon currency, or make them tradeable at a1 to 1 rate. That way we can run all dungeons without repeating them too many times and still get a full set of something while not being restricted to a single endless grind in the same dungeon, playing wherever we want to play instead. Isn’t that a LOT more fun and spontaneous? Doesn’t it encourage people to beat all dungeons? Doesn’t it make sense that the more diversified gameplay also results in the same rewards of the repetitive and boring gameplay?
Single dungeon currency, please!!!!
