A QoL change to Daily Achievements

Heta.8629

True achievement hunters put in the effort to get all the achievements. This change would be neutral to anyone who isn’t top if the leaderboards. Capping achievement point gain will hurt those who want that 500 point chest sooner. Anet resources to change and test these effect on the overall game and economy will be better spent on content that will affect more players. Giving more achievement points for less will make them worth less. More dailies help players play the way they want to and still get achievement points. Occam’s razor says easiest path is best and this would make dailies more complicated. Current daily system works fine.

Let’s make fractals unnecessary because it’s the only way to get an ascended back piece. If ascended armor is only available in crafting for this patch then some QQ is acceptable but I almost guarantee it won’t remain the only way forever. As other posters have said you have to do certain parts of the game to get certain rewards. I’m sure some WvW players want Arah armor by doing WvW but they would need to PvE to get that reward

So instead of everyone grinding for ascended they need to grind for legendaries since they have the highest stats? This would be a bigger uproar than ascended currently is. Ascended takes a couple weeks for most players if they try and legendaries are many months even for major grinders. Also just FYI ascended was introduced because the devs have said exotics were supposed to be that hard to acquire. It’s caused a big commotion because it was introduced after the game launched but that is how hard the BiS items are supposed to be to acquire.

New skills good. Acquisition Bad

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Heta.8629

Ok so here is why I created this thread. People don’t like the rewards the game is currently giving. Look at the backlash from the WvW season 1 reward chest. People were disappointed with the rewards for their work and coeicedently they also wxp, luck, ascended mats, skillpoints, and greens/rares/blues/exotics. This is from the WvW perspective. On my poll i’ve got 973 responses. 78% of the voters rated the reward factor of the nightmare within story below 3 on a scale from 1-5 (1 being the lowest). 32% voted 3, 28% voted 2, 18% voted 1. It is obvious that people are not liking the rewards.

That is why they need to add more depth to these concrete things that don’t just involve current currencies or they need to start introducing some drains to these things so that they mean something when people gain them. Putting a gate behind skills that requires you to perform something not only makes it more interesting, but it offers more opportunities for Anet to offer more meaningful rewards. Along with unique skins and what not. I mean what if they make it so you need something similar to signent of capture to gain a skill and you need to buy this each time to gain the skill, similar to guild wars 1. This will offer a drain for the skillpoints, but it can also be offered to WvWers for rewards in season chest. Maybe like 5 of them and they each cost 30 skill points or something.

No matter what, the fact of the matter is that players are not satisfied with current rewards.

Players will only be satisfied with the rewards if they get 2 exotics for completing the story instance. Anet have tried offering a multitude of different rewards for completing content but no single reward will satisfy everyone. Some people also don’t want a cool way to unlock the new skills and would rather just use skill points for them so they can start using it. On the 10th I don’t want to find out how to unlock my new heal skill then go do some dynamic event or find some NPC to unlock it. I want to buy it, make my new build and try it out. You can go do some dynamic events or make your own story and don’t unlock the skill until you’ve done it but let us who just want the skill use our skill points we earned playing the game to unlock the skill and play the game

no and no again. because then u force everyone that doesnt like pve to go pve for their wvw skills. its not ok that id have to go pve to get my new skills. im already having a hard time to get my 3rd ascended. i hate gathering stuff. its boring! im fine with using skillpoints and i dont want to go hunting for some stupid monsters!

Thats why WvW should have their own method.

say requiring a certain WvW rank, and specific conditions to make a wvw trainer appear. then you can buy it from them for skillpoints
Say trainer appears in dif locations depending on whats going on in WvW.

Id make two types of occurences trigger them
personal goals.
like kill X without being killed,
Defend X times without leaving map
etc
server goals.
own stonemist
own 3 keeps in a BL
own all towers on a map
win 2 weeks in a row

etc.

I think WvW also needs goals, yall should be able to fight to achieve things you want as well.

If you are a roamer and just go kill small groups or your server is doing bad and can’t reach those server goals than WvW players will feel they have to go to PvE in order to unlock these skills easier or at all. I also don’t see the alure of adding an extra step to acquire the skills when you use skill points anyways. Being a certain WvW rank would be a non factor to most WvW players and feel like a chore to those who are new or far below that rank

They don’t even need to do what I said. I’d be content with anything other than open up hero panel, push unlock on skill. That is sooo borrring.

I dont craft. Never liked it nor felt the need to. Never wanted to get my legendary. I don’t need skillpoint at all. I don’t think im the only one either. So assuming they release skills at a constant rate of 25skill points they would need to release 13 skills before I run out of skill points, and that is assuming I dont earn any in between the skills. I would love if I could use those skill points for something that benefits me even though I’m not a crafter.

I mean, most of the people in this thread defending keeping the skill system at its current rate; what do you do(PvE dungeons, PvE open world, etc)? What do you use your current skill points for? How many do you have?

I would much rather have a different thing to do in game aside from what is current an option to us. Lets assume that they keep on the same trend they are now. Living story arcs every 2 weeks, repopulating an old zone. Maybe a new zone if we’re lucky. Come back to this thread in one year and tell me if it was a bad idea to put in some way of getting skills instead of just buying them via the skillpoint menu. If it was a bad idea to give some more endgame content to the game.

Certain dungeons are locked to encourage people to do the events that are in the game and make those more challenging. Those dungeons are also hostile territory so it makes sense you would need to do something to get in. There are sites like the one described above to know which servers have it open or you could get your group together to get it open. Makes sense these dungeons locked by dynamic events from a lore perspective so if you want it unlocked do it yourself with your group or guest to a server it’s open on

That said, I do really enjoy the game
I just do not like the fact LS has taken up the expansion.

We could have had a Cantha or new map to explore by now… but nope we have rehash “Winter’s Day” content over 4 week “Tower” content.

Most people would be really bored if we didn’t have new content every two weeks while waiting on an expansion. There are different teams working on different content. Except your ignoring the fact that this living story arc is about Scarlet, it has been for almost a year. She is the main antagonist. Can you be anymore captain obvious.

You can’t really blame him when they try and make every new LS sound like a new and unique threat despite the fact that we all know it’s Scarlet again. I distinctly remember the teaser page for the tower of nightmares being unnecessarily vague about who was behind it despite the fact that anyone who’s played in the past year could guess it was another scarlet-based enemy mashup from the get-go.

The living story arcs can still be unique even though Scarlet is behind it all. The molten alliance is nothing like the toxic alliance. They both have unique looks and mechanics plus completely different stories.

#1)New Armor Skins

Heta.8629

The problem with armor skins is that they have to design 6 versions and they are much more intricate and difficult to design than weapons. Also if they put these in random dynamic events without telling people, players could go months without finding it. They will likely make new skins correspond with the living story because players will be doing those events and more likely to earn the skins. They currently put them in the gem store to make money but I think it would be great to make them available in game events

Counting this upcoming release they will have 1 universal heal and 1 for each profession so that’s a lot more than 2. New traits have been introduced like cleansing ire, dhuumfire, and one with air. Many more traits are getting a total revamp like diamond skin.

Edge of the Mists - really good idea?

in WvW

Posted by: Heta.8629

Heta.8629

Edge of the Mists is the single best update they have made to date, let me give you an example:

Blackgate vs Sanctum of Rall vs Maguuma

SoR/Mag know they can’t compete with BG for overall PPT so they won’t even try. Their entire playerbases will move into Edge of the Mists. SoR outnumbers Mag so SoR will occupy EotM 1-4 while Mag occupies EotM 1-2.

So you will have this situation:

EotM 1-2 – 40v40v40
EotM 3-4 – 40v40v0
EotM 5-10 and 4 regular maps – Blackgate vs Nobody

There’s no way to queue directly into different overflows of the mist. So it’s not like Blackgate players will be able to queue for EotM 1-4. They will have their choice of playing on 4 empty regular maps or an empty EotM map.

Literally 80% of Blackgate’s playerbase will not even have 1 enemy player to fight against. Their maps will be completely devoid of enemy players. They will have to transfer if they want to fight against other players again.

It’s a great kittening update.

Predict the future more please. It is still in the early testing phases so no one knows what it will actually be like. This kind of QQ happens for everything Anet says they will release. If it sucks when it’s implemented then is the time to complain.

A new blogpost today confirmed that new healing skills would be available on the dec 10th update. Since most wars use heal signet what would need to be with the new heals in order for them to replace that heal for you? I personally use a healing shouts build so any kind of shout heal would at least be worth a try for me but also brings the trouble of being uninterruptible, 20% reduction and an extra 1700 heal so I don’t think it would be great because it could be OP. Regardless of the heal you use now what would you like to see in the new heal skills?

I find your point does not strongly prove that gw2 is p2w(cosmetic). But I read a interesting thread somewhere else and it sounds right to me. I will just drop the link and op here.

“(Since almost all no-sub mmo removed, or does not even have, over-powered cash items, the P2W in my point of view has became how a cash player could save a great amount of time over a free player.)
Am I the only one who is thinking about this? For instance, with the newly introduced sellable agony resistence and increasing rate for gem to gold, a cash player could easily obtain almost all available pve gears(any stats) instantly. There are also many other ways to spend you real money in gw2 to gain a time lead. Due to the low gold-reward rate with the punishment from DR, free players need to spend so long on either grinding dungeons or farming gold in order to achieve the same.
Although I already got what I wanted after excessively and repetitively doing some contents, I really feel bad about the situation that new players will face.”

Pay to save time != pay to win. Pay to win has a concrete definition so it does not change with each persons discretion. If you were to argue the cash shop is pay to save time then I would agree but we are arguing if it is pay for a statistical advantage only obtainable through the use of real money. Even if GW2 did offer +5 power on the gem store it isn’t technically pay to win because it can be obtained through in game money as well by converting to gems. Make another thread if you wish to discuss pay to look good or pay to save time but this is discussing pay to win which the game clearly is not.
Side note: the devs stated long ago that they purposefully added gem to gold conversion for people who have more money than time so pay to save time is working as intended

Twerk is in oxford dictionary, that word you use for homosexual does not mean happy anymore, and I don’t know whether we should revise definition of p2w or not.

Don’t need to change pay to win if pay for convenience describes it better. There are games that are truly pay to win and lumping GW2 in with those games will turn off lots of players. Call it what it is instead of forcing it into the pay to win definition.

No. Everything was temporary. They even botched their awesome new dungeons into short fractals!

Even the Tower of Nightmares, with its unique, new, open-world dungeon mechanics, is being removed. WHY!?

And the ONE reeeeally cool area they added, the Zephyrite Sanctum, was also removed…. With Champion Farming, this zone would have been amazing! Yet…. It was removed…

No, this is not an expansion worth of content. Outside the Fractals of the Mists and ascneded weapons, we’re kinda back to square one.

I went on vacation to Jamaica once but I lost the souvenirs. Am I back to square one? The journey was fun. Like the living story we mostly just have memory of what happened but also the rewards and it builds on what will happen in the future.

And so do you. Pretending that you expect or deserve specific results from a process clearly indicated to be random is pointless.

Oh it’s not pretending, I genuinely believe that people who throw hundreds of gold into the forge should get a precursor. Or people that have farmed since the game was released. “Random” to me suggests that there’s an equal chance of all the items in the table dropping. But it’s far from an equal chance, in fact it’s absurdley unbalanced, and I think it should be changed.

Your definition of random isn’t wrong and being called a random number generator might be a bit misleading. My understanding is that there are 100 different items on the loot table but each has a different rate if dropping. A barb has 1/5 chance of dropping while a green has a 1/30 chance of dropping. The RNG rolls for the items on the table and you get the items that hit a 1. No one knows exactly how the loot system in the game works specifically but having blues and exotics having an equal chance of dropping would be a terrible design. Rare items are rare because they drop less often than common items

Just because most of the living story isn’t available right now doesn’t mean it’s bad. Limited time content makes it feel special and that the world really is moving forward. As was already said just because we get 2 week updates doesn’t mean we miss out on new skills and classes because different teams are working on them. Most people breeze through an expansion in 2 months and be bored for the other 10 while the living story encourages people to log in at least twice a month. Living story hasn’t been out a year yet and I personally like the living story better than I think I would an expansion.

As much as I think it will be cool I don’t think that the alliances will turn on Scarlet. The molten alliance seems to have dissolved right after flame and frost ended and is likely they won’t work with each other again. The aetherblades seem to have lots of fear/respect of Scarlet for an unknown reason. The toxic alliance will also likely crumble once the tower falls due to the krait being tricked and now the know it. I could possibly see the aetherblades turning on her but there are no signs right now and don’t think the other alliances will get together just for revenge on her. Another thing is that from the wiki Scarlet just approached the dredge with an offer from the flame legion. No evidence she forced them to work together and I suspect she did the same with the krait and nightmare court. It seems that the alliances are more angry with each other than with Scarlet. I would be interested to know why the aetherblades are scared of Scarlet

How is that pay to win? I think he’s asking for a template so he can readily switch build without respecing every time.

When something is sold in the shop which is not a purely cosmetic item, but effects game play, it is considered a pay-to-win item.

So if I can instantly switch my d/d stealth thief to something else (say with pistols) instantly within wvw, anytime I want without any real repercussions, and the other guy can’t, then I have the advantage. Paying real money for an advantage, forcing others to do the same to keep up, is pay-to-win. Really bad way to go, would be huge criticism for anet.

The other guy also can without real money due to gold to gem exchange. I don’t think p2w can really exist in this game because you don’t need real money to buy things in the gem store. When the one time trait change was introduced no one cried p2w and this would just be a multiple use version of it

But i can’t do anything against normal current meta warrior, guardian etc. When guardians, zoo necros or rangers just unkillable for example, warriors can survive, stun, hit you with aoe skill for full health / apply over 9k conditions and run away.

Even when i go invis, they just smash air around with point blank skills and bring tons of damage to me. While i can’t do anything. It is not funny.

Says WvW not a good source. Talks about himself in WvW. What sources are good and where are your credentials? Screenshot for me earthshaker hitting for your full health. Say a warrior has 100 tick bleeds. He would need 90 stacks for 9k condition damage. Both of these are both not possible but also not even close in the same build as they do completely different types of damage. Since when does going invisible render you unable to do anything? I find the misconceptions in this post funny

Remember ride the lightning for Eles?

Ride the lightning was OP because it was unaffected by conditions, really long range, low cool down and a knockdown. Name a warrior skill that does all that then I will agree it should be nerfed. Don’t forget now it halves the cool down when it hits so not a nerf when used to fight

There are many different ways to build your playstyle in GW2.

Step#1 – Choose Weapons/Utilities that fits Your Playstyle
Step#2 – Choose (Traits) to build upon and Enhance Your Playstyle
Step#3 – Choose Armor/Stats to Balance Your Playstyle.

GW2 Combat System is based on: Damage/Control/Support
Refer to my Video above for that information.

Lots of different playstyles can be build upon in GW2.

There aren’t weapons/utilities/traits/stats that fit many people’s play styles is the issue

The problem isn’t the weapons/utilities/traits/stats.

The problem is people come from games like WoW and think it should play like WoW.

Then you got another crowed from GW1 and expect the builds to work the same way as GW2… This is a different game after all.

The problem for those of us who are longtime GW veterans is we were promised GW but with an Open World. What we got was the kitten step-child of GW and (insert MMO here)

I don’t remember any promises like that. I also bought GW2 being a GW vet but you have to recognize they were built as totally separate games and Anet deemed GW combat was suited for the new game.
