This has to be a complete joke. The skill is exclusively good against players with virtually no condi clense. The vast majority of the time even relatively new players know to save ONE clense. Try countering supply crate with one condi clense. See how that works.
Krait runes are way barely a problem on p/d thief. Not on condi ranger. They proc on cast not hit and I don’t believe they’re dodgable. That said for a 6 piece bonus they’re mediocre at best especially considering the rest of the set is terrible even on short bow which only sees damage gains to bleed in increments of 33% duration increase..
Hoping this was a troll…. doubting it though…
The irony is, no one “has issues” with them. I haven’t seen a single post of someone saying they have issues with them. It’s EVERYONE else who has issues with them. Seriously, every person who complains says it’s not for them, it’s just for other people… It’s starting to look like either a lot of people have something to hide or they’re really not a problem.
Also this is a team game. They’re good at 1v1 versus a handful of specs and have a long list of huge hindrances. I’m not going to agree with you that an entire spec needs nerfed because it’s not fair to some hypothetical noobs, that no one will claim to actually be, has an issue 1v1ing it in low-mid tier gameplay. That’s not how builds work, that’s not how balance works, and that certainly doesn’t help figure out the issue when everyone seems to be sticking up for someone who doesn’t seem to exist…
Lots of people claim to have issues. There’s a new thread on it nearly daily. I play a scepter focus ele and can swirling winds the projectiles or magnetic wave them if I need more time to condi the engie to death or dragon tooth and phoenix the turrets. My build is what carries that and if it weren’t for swirling winds I probably wouldn’t bother.
I’ve been seeing a lot more scepter focus eles lately but it’s definitely not meta. The “hypothetical noobs” are “literally” on the forum every day. Again, please stop trying to belittle the arguments with this ridiculous “no one’s mad that’s why I’ve come here to point out that all the people making threads need to shut up” concept. Address why the grievances are inaccurate. This approach only serves to give me the impression that you don’t have strong enough arguments to make your case. So far as I’m aware they still don’t exist.
It’s almost painful to hear the argument spewed that because one spec doesn’t want to learn to play everyone else needs to “l2p”. This to be followed by the always hilarious “just avoid them” like that’s even any resemblance of an argument for their balance. If just avoid them or 2v1 them are two of your best options let’s reiterate that that’s an argument for nerfing not against. I don’t understand who is making these arguments without realizing the circular nature of the “logic”.
It’s nice that there are very low skill cap builds however they shouldn’t easily defeat builds requiring significantly higher skill. People want to feel like they can improve their game in a pvp setting. You dont feel that way when an essentially playerless build wrecks in mid level. That’s when people leave.
Lastly the use of the term “vocal minority” is a sad attempt to discredit the fact that far far more people are asking for a change than aren’t. It’s not clever verbage. It doesn’t convince anyone that you’ve done any actual research, it’s just a ridiculous way of attempting to silence/ignore your opposition rather than address their points and convince them to change their minds. The approach is demeaning and cowardly.
Personally I don’t have much trouble with them because most of my builds have decent counters to the turrets which I’m aware is not the norm. I just found this thread a bit ridiculous.

Before the patch:
d/d cele ele
rifle nade cele engi
shoutbow cele warriorAfter the patch:
d/d cele ele
rifle nade cele engi
shoutbow cele warriorYes, balance at it’s finest. lol @ the balance team and anyone on the forums who thought might stacking was the issue. Hint: it is the cele amulet.
Also, if you see fewer d/d cele eles, it is because of a few of them are trying staff cele ele. Notice the cele part.
I don’t think it’s the amulet, eng’s are just like 5 classes combined into 1. Has there ever been a meta where ENG’s weren’t the best class in the entire game?
This doesn’t explain cele ele or cele shoutbow.
Also, saying engi’s have always been OP is not correct. Certain specs in all classes are OP at times. It is just that engi has 2 really great PvP specs right now: cele rifle nade spammer, and turret engi (for pug matches)
Ok…… 25 stacks of might still offers 750 power and 750 condition damage…. without that cele ele puts out very little damage. The class stacks might easily and are able to use all their skills effectively with cele. 750 condi to a class that has long burns is going to hit hard and going from power in the 1500s to 2ks is a ridiculous thing.
Warriors have consistently had a place in the meta because they start with high health and armor which is a huge base advantage. They have absurd healing for a bruiser class comboed with easy access to burning. Oh and it’s fairly simple to learn.
turret engies have always and will always be an excuse to play pvp without actually playing. Anet probably won’t nerf because they like the idea that anyone can step in and be highly competitive which is ironic because it pushes out people that want skill based rewards so they feel that they can improve. The community has been consistent in its feelings with regards to this and if it hasn’t changed yet it probably won’t.
Cele engie has absurd damage with grenade spam which combines with a slippery cc low counter build. The problem is that it does more damage and tanks better than most b rate builds. It can therefore fit in most situations and can still use that ridiculous supply crate.
None of this really matters though as they balance semi annually and barely when they do, so just don’t expect it to change. Hold hope that specializations will allow for easier balancing.
Stronghold was advertised to not only require different roles and builds than Conquest, but also to attract different types of players.
If both game modes are in the same queue, we will most likely end up with matches where all players who do not end up in their desired game mode will leave the match immediately. And I couldn’t even blame them for that.
yup they’ll pay for a week and quit when the rotation of paying the game you want every once in a while gets old. so all the time put into stronghold will serve nothing. The effort of mixing moba with spvp will be a waste because anet would rather kill their player base then risk letting them separate.
These topics shouldn’t have been merged.. but if you do it, merge it by the topic of the discussion and don’t try to hide the shared que concerns behind this title.
Seriously this topic instantly trumped turret engie hate threads and then wound up 5 tabs deep on a forum that does not in any way focus on the discussion…. great play!
It’s to keep Conquest from completely dying.
Maybe they could give a small bonus for players who queue any game type. But people who queue just for one game mode should get what they want.
That is a great idea!
For those complaining about it using the same queue as conquest you can get your 5 votes and have a 50% chance or more to get the map.
You would need to always be a full team and also you wouldn’t always get the option to play Stronghold,
Strange you just suggested people to get 20 players in an organized custom arena but you can’t get 5 guys to vote in 1 map? Get 5 to vote together looks easier than what you suggested.
#KeepTheSameQueue
Well that’s a ridiculous argument…. if I really really want to play stronghold me and 4 friends can sit around waiting for it to maybe appear in selection then have a solid 50% chance of paying it. We could do that. Or we could play a game where we can just play what we want the whole hour.
Hahahahaha then stronghold was a complete waste of everyone’s time. Thanks for coming out. ohhhhh anet.
was it confirmed to be in the standard queue?
I think the reason you are seeing a lot now is because of the $10 sale gw2 recently had. Before no one would really risk a $40 account with blatantly hacking in spvp….now….it’s definitely more common. They will be banned soon though and you won’t see it as much. Until another sale happens, of course.
Tbh every major game has working hacks that exist. There really isn’t too much anet or any other company can do. Yeah they can put in “detection” methods that will auto ban players (which I am 90% sure gw2 already has some of) but in reality the guys writing these hacks are often professional software engineers who work in the IT field. Can’t really do much when they are constantly evolving their software.
And yet some people insist that turning it into f2p would be good for the game. Just the simple fact of the game becoming cheaper during a sale was already enough to a major increase in the number of hacks that we are seeing. Imagine if it was f2p. People would hack any place and just make hundreds of accounts.
Honestly those movement hackers have been prevalent for a very long time, and they don’t appear to be going anywhere. It gives me the strong impression that there aren’t auto checks in place to ban abusive accounts and associated ip addresses. Anet has never given a proactive impression. They may respond on the forums with vague hints, but its like the balance patches…. every handful of months there are a couple quarter second adjustments that don’t fix the gaping holes.
You can claim bugs all you want but I don’t believe it for a second. I’ve seen guardians with access to multiple heal skills (at least litany of wrath and shelter), I’ve seen people cross the entire map in a split second, and people who have permanent stability without the boon… It’s not bugs. The by far easiest and most likely answer is that people hack the game.
Video?
I love that comment! like it invalidates anything I’ve seen because I don’t record every game. I refuse to believe I’m the only one experiencing these people and there are plenty of videos out there.

I would strongly prefer to play deathmatch, but absolutely not in a 5v5 environment. My problem with it is that it’s just too dependent on the team comp, like what laraley said. If you’re soloing you don’t have control over that aspect which works out better in conquest since you’re naturally more spread out. In arena having the right mix of players seems to matter more than anything else, and having one player who runs off by himself can be a death sentence for the entire team. It’s just not enjoyable to be so dependent on random people.
I used to only play ranked but since the latest matchmaking changes I’ve been consistently tossed against a premade 5 high rank group. I hate that experience every single time. It’s not remotely worth playing when 4 out of five of my matches are going to be 10 minutes of waiting for it to end with a dozen outnumbered 10 second fights in between. I can find a game when i have fun for more than 10 minutes out of every hour.
We’re aware of the community desire for these sort of arenas, but at this time we do not want to fragment the player base by having more than two arenas at a time.
That’s borderline unbelievable. On so many levels I am baffled.
Pugs vs premades is an absolutely zero sum no enjoyment experience. It is why most people quit pvp. You’re playing against a team on teamspeak that seems to be everywhere 2-5v1 the entire game because they’re coordinated and there’s no in game voice chat for your pug.
The more players you toss in generally speaking the more coordination you’ll need until you get to a zerg level at which point its not like there’s much of any skill involved anyway.
The game was sold as casual. As such it’s drawing in more of a casual oriented player base. Coordinating 5 peoples schedules to be online at the same time whenever you want to have a good game is not casual. Casual is playing with friends when you’re on at the same time, and having the option to do your own thing otherwise.
You may not want to “fragment” your low population but the truth is by providing a poor experience that people don’t enjoy you’re just lowering that population anyway. Don’t “fragment”. Expand. Provide people with the game types you apparently have the infrastructure to set up easily(unless i’m misreading your later post) and maybe they’ll keep playing.
Why is this tossed in with all the other maps? All night this map is getting 1 or 2 votes and selected. It’s ridiculous. It’s terrible. It’s such a waste of time. Even when I win I’m just waiting for the trash to end the entire time, because it’s not competitive.
It should not be tossed in with conquest just because there’s only one of it. If people want to play the terrible map they should be welcome too, but it’s infuriating to get it tossed in with regular considering how imbalanced it’s left the classes. It would be tons of fun if it were 2v2 or 3v3, but it’s not. Half the time my game connection freezes up just because there’s 20 turrets and 100 condis.
There is no reason for this to be tossed in with all the conquest maps. It shouldn’t be 5v5. I don’t understand why it took so long to get a map without circles to sit on, and really don’t understand why it can’t get a separate button, or have variable group sizes.
Lol holidays are for college kids, most adults worked. People who need breaks from work don’t really love what they do. “When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breath then you will be succesful”.
My employer is very generous when it comes to paid holiday leave. I’ll also remind you that it’s a Sunday and I’m here looking at data and answering questions.
Given that I’ve had insanely terrible not even remotely enjoyable games lately your work is still appreciated! The problem is way more likely a lack of sizable player base than anything and most adults get paid time off. Let them come back refreshed.
Additionally there are competitions for these kinds of machine learning problems that areneanet could host to find good algorithms for determining close games as opposed to relying so heavily on MMR.
it’s not really overpowered so much as certain builds are too good at a rock paper scissors development of the game which is fun for no one. 25 stacks of might is 1750 extra stat points…. think about that
Classes that focus on direct or condi can put all their Stat points on their attacks celestial works well because it works against the rock paper scissors approach of does my build beat theirs or vice versa. Where’s the skill in that? By bringing a good range of damage you can shift your play to your opponents weaknesses.. use strategy.. get better. There is very little skill in slamming one burst without mistake or successfully timing 1 dodge… and running around waiting for a 4 second fight is fun for no one. Toughness is great but has diminishing returns which is hilarious considering two classes start with massive toughness bonuses and same for health bonuses… a fight with a dd ele isn’t very intimidating if you can knock off their might stacking/boons.. the lightening whip cancel exploit will most likely get fixed bringing down the healing. I don’t see the game going esport as long as its conquest based or the new 5v5 zerging explosion. Good 1v1 or 2v1 fights are fun to watch. 5v5 is too chaotic to follow…
It would be great if people could play spvp free in a move towards esports. Also great advertising for pve!
These matches are so bad!!!! I don’t understand what happened but someone did a terrible god awful job implementing this. Every other match has a 300 point landslide with 5 pre-made dragons versus 5 solo rabbits…. This is the dumbest most enraging state of sPVP I’ve seen since launch. It’s borderline unbelievable.
Yeah I never understood the meta mentality… In order for a build to be meta it has to be played by a large number of people…. so if a build is difficult to play it won’t make meta until it is significantly over powered.
I joined a level 50 fractal the other day and was kicked out after being told “the meta is the meta for a reason” before we even began. All I could think after that is why do people feel elite playing a build they put no thought in to that nearly anyone can learn to play with relative ease? The meta is the meta because it’s for the most part simplistic enough that it can be explained and understood with little to no effort.
Are you.. seriously helping people who are violating the code of conduct to take action against players who are trying to prevent match manipulation? The community officially reached a new level.
It was custom server (probably bought with IRL money) with custom rules. These guys joined, and started to ruining game process for everyone else. If it will be a custom duel server and same guild will join on it to grief, you will support this too?
I never farmed a single rank on such servers (btw its pretty uneffective way to farm ranks), I don’t like them, but I keep my opinions to myself. If someone want to do something on his custom server – it’s his server, his game and his fun. Griefing must be punished, and punished harshly.
Couldn’t agree more! I have no interest joining in rank farm servers. They’re slower than solo or team queue but if it’s important enough to them honestly I can’t see how it makes a difference. If it diminishes the perceived value of your dragon rank because other people have it that’s just sad. The games meant to have fun not annoy other players and attempt to waste their money.
It’d probably be possible to weight wins with players of low rank more heavily… It shouldn’t take long to tack players to see how wins are on average distributed based on rank differences.
Thanks guys that’s very helpful
I was just curious what actually triggers this skill I’ve been having trouble picking out what’s procing the passive effect last night when I was playing with this skill. I was under the impression each step of a chained skill would heal so that stone shards would heal 3 times and arc lightening 10(possibly 3 if one per stage)? Is that correct? If anyone could help me understand how the signet procs with those skills it would be greatly appreciated.
yup got scammed with this tonight! how awesome!
^^ sheer lunacy
The “meta” team composition is just a barrier to entry for the majority of players. The idea of having a group that can play well together because individuals can fill the gaps their team is missing makes it more fun for everyone and a lot more accessible. It’s really not fun to be in a long version of rock paper scissors… my class can’t beat your class regardless of player skill or vice versa.
It’s ridiculous to call it op because certain classes benefit from everything. If all the damage from a character is condi or physical they will receive a massive boost to every skill by focusing vs mild boosts if their skills are split. That would just force people into playing with half their skills and sitting in specific roles the entire game spectating a large amount of time… Take all the action out of the game? Celestial classes don’t seem too op you probably just want different game types where you’re encouraged to be in different group sizes, or more realistically an I win auto attack.
Base stats should have the same amount. If it’s ok for warrior to have more base hp/toughness, an elementalist maybe should have more base healing/power or condi/boon duration for example. Just make all the classes have the same global amount of base stats and we can talk about amu balance.
^^That…. too freaking true
No, the route of the problem has to do with two classes having almost 80% additional base health over thief ele and guard. The idea that aegis once per 50 seconds makes up for the loss is insane and will remain a primary reason the Guardian doesn’t get played as much. Group effects are also difficult to value in a gamestyle where your team of five is attempting to control 3 simultanious points with extra objectives. To make up for that all other classes are going to need massive def./offense skills as compared to warrior or necro. This is in no way the case.
Some classes utilize all traits while others primarily deal physical or condi. So for celestial build all skills hit with slight boost, but for focused classes 80/90% of skills hit for massive bonuses. In terms of healing power the gains are significantly different for each healing skill making it difficult to value and not overly significant to offset other factors. Additionally healing in no way compensates for bonus health pool at the base of the issue. Extra toughness is a ridiculous argument for removing celestial as it has diminishing returns and you can go up against a class with 80% bonus health and max base toughness among classes. It’s not as valuable to tack toughness on to the heavies because they already have it….
The classes that benefit from the celestial are the ones that hurt from not being able to focus on a damage type. Sorry a warrior with 80% bonus starting life heavy armor and great healing signet can’t just blast auto attack to win. No one would play the game if they had to work crazy hard paying attention to a million details to get destroyed by someone pressing 1 button. Every class should have a high skill option with high reward. Celestial is in no way the problem; massive underlying imbalances make it impossible to balance.
Maybe if the classes weren’t ridiculously imbalanced people would enjoy the game and keep playing.
Couldn’t agree more unless the full team is just awful you stand no realistic chance and after fighting like crazy for a few minutes realize your whole team is sitting waiting for the game to end…. It’s terrible and happens all the time… It’s ruining my entire pvp experience.
Yeah it might be tough to implement but if they built a system where u determine what skills are used when it would be a lot easier. Not to mention if you could take control of the mercs and switch which characters are currently on ai a lot of fun would be had.
An example would be use a certain skill chain when all involved skills are ready… mash the shorter cd spells till longest cd is ready. Not terribly hard to program that either just a series of nested if else statements based on ur set up.
They could give a series of situations and u pick the reactions.
No not exactly and yeah sure it would suck if it sucked… Just like everything else.. Not really sure what else to say about that.
It would be really nice if we could use our alts as ai party members. This could make a lot more of the content assessable to players. People complain a lot about group world events being unplayable if someone else doesn’t happen by and it would be really nice if you could play all your characters at once when you don’t have a ton of time to play. It’d also add a level of customization I find lacking at the moment.
You can boot them on full servers and handle loot however you please it would just be a nice addition.
This has to be the worst content I have ever played in a game possibly ever. The challenge is excessively stupid. There’s nothing you can do to make up for a team that doesn’t work together. If you get one bad player you will spend hours getting virtually no where no matter how much you walk them through it. Sure we could all start being elitists and kick everyone out of the games, or we could just quit the game entirely.
Hours and hours of wasted time. This was a terrible experience. Thanks Anet!!
I couldn’t agree more with O.P. Anet is passing up on a huge opportunity by not providing more solo content. Most of the leveling is done solo which means the majority of people who like the game enough to go for max level at least enjoy playing by themselves. When you get to the end game though there aren’t a lot of options for people who don’t want to coordinate.
It’s incredibly frustrating to be so reliant on a group of strangers who never want to admit they’re confused probably because other people get tired of explaining ridiculous dungeon puzzles over and over. Even if you get a legendary weapon, all ascended accessories, and play perfect it really doesn’t make much of a difference if your group doesn’t happen to all know what’s going on. The nice thing about leveling was if people showed up where you were it was great, but if they didn’t you could play through. This is not the case in end game.
P.S. Who thought it was a good idea to take max level characters and have them chase ooze around for hours getting no where?
I always found the best parts of these games was to build a powerful character that could run around and smash things to bits. If you get to the end of the game collect all the best weapons even though they offer very little over normal weapons you’ll still get your face smashed in by freaking ooze, and what is the reward if you do kill him? A couple blue items no one would use ever.
