No one is going to return to the game for this change.
On the contrary, many might start thinking of saying goodbye with this change.
I am one of them.
It contradicts with the concept of the Dynamic Event design that you can join and leave at your will. Then don’t even have an LFG UI yet. I enjoy playing with my alts rather than running dungeons with my level 80s (usually people expect you to join them as a level 80 nowadays if you have a level 80), and I believe that playing with my alts help contributing to the already underpopulated low level zones but now they want you to stop doing that? Ridiculous.
Well, congratulation to dungeon lovers. You can complete a monthly in a few hours as part of your daily activities.
Monthly are supposed to be long term objectives. The current two objectives is something that you can either complete in a few hours, or something that you can never complete, or take a lot of pains to complete. Does not make sense.
If you enter a department store, no one expects you to buy something from each floor. Playing an MMORPG does not mean you must play all its contents. I don’t likeve PvP so I completely ignore sPvP or only obliged to do a little bit of WvW for last month achievements (which was pain for me). The PvE contents without dungeons is really good enough for me to play the game alone but this monthly achievement changes is telling you that you MUST run their dungeons. WTH, it sounds so arrogant.

It is character based. You can run it with all your alts to get the chest multiple times everyday. If you don’t have alts, just create them and join the zerg.
Gave up after 3 tries, realize that this CT is never my game.
I also hate the time limit. I want to start my challenge at my comfortable timing, take a few minutes rest after I failed a few times, then retry. Currently I feel like being pushed down from a bangee jump. If you jump at your own timing, it is fine, but if someone push you down, it is worst.
I think it should be divided into a few stages, even with a little bit more components, but would let you finish one by one, and take your time to rest between the stages. Also let you start from 2nd stage if you have finished stage 1. Then it will be worth challenging for many more.

Thanks for the info. I am really surprised that I have never seen that before. I have completed QD like 10 times (including WBE) and I don’t remember I have done that before. Perhaps the occurrence rate was extremely low and they have adjusted it.
I think the “Catch Rabbits that eat water-melon” event in Queensdale is new. Never saw that before. At first I thought it was a part of Halloween. It is fun and should stay after Halloween.
If you access the forum from two computers, you have to log in again frequently.
You can read, but it will ask for login when you try to post after you wrote your response, then lose everything you wrote, don’t even remember what subforum you were in.
So many times I have to rewrite everything or just gave up when this happened. Please fix this.
Many DEs in low level zones are still not balanced for solo or few players, and a high level player is always very useful.
When I play with my level 80s, I help them.
When I play with my lowbies, they help me.
OP is only looking at one side of the matter. Be more positive and things would be better.
Unless you insist on soloing everything all on your own.
BTW when I play my level 80s, I would always try to save the percentage for any lowbies around me so they still get the kills and loots.
It is about considerate or not. An inconsiderate player, level 80 or not, still cause you trouble. He can just do a small part of the DE, making it scale to a 2 player difficulty and leave quickly, leaving you alone to collect 10 items or face groups of 6 for the remains of an escort.

Titles are for self-satisfaction.
If you can’t even see your own nameplate, that makes it sound pointless.
I am supposed to have a star on myself for 100% map completion but I never saw it and I have even forgotten that I have a star sticking on myself nowadays.
So, why can’t we see our own nameplates? What’s the reason behind this ArenaNet’s concept of “You don’t want to see your nameplate”. Anyone knows?
Or let us buy karma with skill points.
TBH I have absolutely no interest in legendary so skill points is sort of useless to me. However I would love to have more karma so at least I can still spare them to buy some faction rare skins.
If you spend some time in Mad King Labyrinth, most likely your bag will be full within 30 minutes even if you salvage some of the cheap white items. There is no merchant in MKL. You have a few options:
(1) Exit to LA, sell them and go back to MKL, rinse and repeat
(2) Don’t loot … because I am rich!?
(3) Call a BL Merchant. That costs at least 20s for a one time use. Not worth it.
(4) Put all of them on Trade Post. Yes!! Destroy the TP with all your junks!! You only lose like 5% to withdraw them.
Now what do you do?
You know, ANet has a good business chance but they fail to make use of it.
If you make BL Merchant Express like the Banker Express in the Deluxe Digital Version, that you can summon anytime but only within a few days, A LOT OF US would probably buy them. Instead, I doubt how many would use the current BLME. The current BLME is probably only used if you are very rich, or you are very kind to make it available to many others but losing 20s yourself each time.
Please sell the right gem item. Current BLME is not something people would want to buy. Why do you want to use an item that last 5 minutes although you probably need them for less than 1 minute? No one wants to pay for that useless 4 minutes.

I am having a serious problem with my Juvenile Bear. I command her to attack while I stay far away doing nothing, but the mob ignores her and ran straight to me. Other pets like wolf do not have this problem, and my level is usually one or two level above the mob, also the two pets have exactly the same precision.
Looks like the bear is imposing negative aggro thus the mob would run to me because I can’t have any aggro for just commanding to attack.
Well, it is like: D3 but Nightmare Mode Only.
Your only choice is complete it or fail, like you either have a legendary or nothing.
They should add normal mode, hard mode to the current nightmare mode, rewards 1-3 chests respectively, then more people would be happy.
I think they are both fine but the reward in HH is much better. You have a chance to get a rare mount which is pretty cool, and the epic gear is pretty good if your alts are not geared yet (which is quite common because alts don’t get a lot of chance to run instance/raid). They are BOP so you don’t farm them for gold.
While most players in GW2 farm MKD for the exotic to sell, meaning farming for gold. In HH, you don’t farm gold, you farm rare things for yourself.
MKD should have rewarded rare/exotic trinkets (either Soulbound on Acquire or on Use) because everyone can equip them and they are much more costly to obtain, while provide less additional stats (which mean many may don’t want to spend many golds for a small stats upgrade). This would also be extremely attractive to leveling players because it is almost impossible to get any rare trinkets.
Some additional notes to Doggie’s map which might help.
From Stormbluff Isle WP – move along east (near the cliff) and swim to Heart at Merchantman’s Strait
Swim Southwest underwater, follow the neutral mobs.
Grab WP at Grand Barrier Isle.
Go Direct South (keep to the west) and get on shore (southwest of Dredgehat Isle), follow a path up a slope to reach the heart, then directly south to the WP → Into Sparkfly Den.
You can reach the portal into Sparkfly Den without seeing an aggressive mob, unless there is an event on, which you will have to wait till it is over.
After entering Sparkfly Den, there are a few melee mobs near the first WP which you need to avoid. Either use speed boost or wait till they start attacking a neutral boar, then run east to the sea, swim over (avoid a single shark in the north) and you will be able to find a stair up, following it to the WP and from there, follow some high levels who would kill mobs instead of creating mob train. You may die because of quick respawn but you can always retry from the WP just outside the dungeon.
I have done this level 45+ part with all my level 15-20 toons (5 of them) without a single death. In fact, the level 35+ part is much harder.
(edited by Hologramx.6402)
That’s a lot of work and I do appreciate it. A great job for all this.
However, I also think they should spare more time into improving the regular game content and fixing bugs. Those are dissatisfaction that accumulates day by day, while these events may manage to bring people back for a while, I doubt that will last long. At least let us know if they are working on it. SWTOR gave us a fully customizable GUI after two months of release while in GW2, I can’t even customize different key assignment on character base. My warrior uses swap weapon frequently but never needs professional skill 2-4, while my Elementalist hardly needs swap weapon but uses profession skill 2-4 every moment. Why should they share the same key assignment? These kinds of things are all around in the game that it takes years to list them up. More priority should be placed on them.
The previous system does not work well with a cancel (It will have already crafted a lot more even though you cancel in the middle) and they fixed it. It Is nice.
However, they didn’t have to change the UI to make it like this. If I have to craft 2 each of few components (like 2 daggers, 2 rings, 2 earrings), which you do frequently for your alts, I have to use keyboard to type 2, then enter every time now, instead of just one click like previously. I also prefer the old UI (only the UI part).
Isn’t it on the News and Announcemount Forum?
Anyway I like this and I hope it stay in the game, not just beta.
It is the same FOV that I used for every MMO I played and the vista view is wonderful with this FoV. Thanks for the implementation.
Definitely not worth waking up from the very middle of a long night sleep just to watch that 5 second long clip. I expect to receive something more special to be on the spot at that specific time.
Don’t we have 8 professions?
I have 8 characters but I can only have 7 of them displayed on my character selection screen. Someone is always missing and I would have to scroll to bring him up. It can be my main who is missing.
Can we have 8 slots shown? Should not be a problem. Or give us an option to show more character slots in CS screen please.
Actually I did Act 1 and Act 2 with all my 8 toons, ranged from level 13 to level 80 (5 of them were around level 20), all soloed. I only got help after I arrived at the dungeons near the npc, following others into there, also with a lot of helps of the spy kits from RH. It is not about doable or not, it is about fun or not.
Act 1 was fun because the external factors are minimum.
Act 2, would have been fun instead of frustrated if they considered all those external factors affecting your challenge. Just like the clock tower challenge. You can plan an optimal route, clearing the least mobs with your level 80, switch to your low level and run through it if everything goes as planned. However, most people are running through with a mob train and your plan get screwed up easily, over and over, and mob respawning in insane interval, sometimes 0 second, sometimes 10 seconds, just unpredictable. A mob train can virtually extend the aggro range to an extremely wide area. It is also unpleasant to see so many people producing massive mob trains.
In fact, the two books in the level 45+ zones are much easier because I finally found a route that you need only to avoid just a few melee mobs, whereas the first book in the Harathi Hinterlands had two serious bottlenecks that are really annoying. If they would have added a few friendly Seraph NPCs near the bandit’s area, and make the respawn interval of those stealthing skelks more reliable, things would have been much better and the challenge would be fun. Then it won’t take hours to wait and rely much less on luck.
Worst thing is the achievement does not give you any detail so you don’t even know if you are missing something or it is bugged. How can you not be informed on what you have done and what else you need to do for an achievement system? It is the same for the daily achievement for killing different types of mobs, which is always the last one remained and you have no idea how they categorized mobs.
I think 21:00 GMT would be a better time if they do consider players from Australia and East Asia. It maybe a bit late for East Europe but should be acceptable because it is much easier for you stay late for 1-2 hours. For Australia and East Asia, 3am or 4am is far too early. 5am or 6am would be acceptable for the majority.
I am not complaining about its too hard, I am complaining on some of its inconsiderate part that hurts the objective of the event. It is supposed to be fun, and apparently it wants low level to be able to do it because the back only takes level 1 gem into its slot. However, the actual experience of the majority of the low level alts would be lots of frustration due to the reasons I gave.
You don’t want to die if you are playing it right. However, choosing the right path and taking all precautions would still get you killed so easily due to those train and quick respawn factors that you can do nothing with. Not to mention that this game does not give you a prompt alert when some mobs aggro on you, and there are many ranged mobs on the path too. It is always too late when you realize some mobs are already on your back the moment you figured it out.
I could do all these in WoW without any death of my low levels, but in this game, looks like you always have to die even you tried your best, just like some of the story quests that provide unavoidable deaths. I wonder, do they really want us to think that “Oh these devs love to kill your character so much…”?
They officially said that this part of the event is for all levels.
Things would be exciting, challenging and fun if the mob won’t aggro at you from a distance you can barely see them, or mob won’t switch aggro on a train, or there is a secure path if you tried your best, but unfortunately these are simply not the case.
I thought it would be challenging for low level alts to do the part 2 of the event, then find it impossible due to some basic design which does not consider the case of a low level crossing a high level zone. I scouted with my level 80 and thought I figured out a probably safe path to get all books, but looks like I was wrong. A lot of corpses on the way to the Ruins of Holy Demetra due to the bandits and many other aggresive mobs. There are many serious bottlenecks that would block you from proceeding. It just won’t work on a low level unless someone babysits you through the journey.
(1) Mobs aggro from incredible long range, probably at least twice as long as normal aggro range.
(2) Mobs respawning too fast. I killed them with my level 80 on the spot, switch to my alt instantly and the mob is already there. WTF.
(3) Running with other groups might be helpful in restricted narrow zone but not in a open field because high level people just run through and you know what would happen if you follow them. Aggro in this game does not stick to the one who started the train.
There are many likewise event related things like this in WoW and I always love the challenge. But the above-mentioned mechanics in this game (they don’t have so much influence in WoW) are blocking the challenge severely. You guys at ANet might think you have made something likewise, but unfortunately there is a huge difference. These mechanics in GW2 are hurting the game already, and it have just become extremely frustrating in this occasion when you try to do Act 2 with your low level alts.
It reminds me of all those failed story quests. Probably tested with level 80s only?
The reward does not mean anything with my level 80, so it is not an issue if my level 80 can do it or not. It is the issue that whether my low level alts can do it or not. Then the rewards serve as a real reward for a challenge. But it you need someone to babysit you in order to complete it, then it really sucks. This is not something that you should always have to rely on someone else.
I have leveled all classes to level 20 or above and I hardly die in PvE except a few falling deaths. Was dying a lot with my first character in story quest but after I realize how to treat them, hardly die now.
You might want to be aware of some of the rules which is specifically useful in GW2.
(1) Update your gear every 6 levels starting from level 14 with masterwork gears. Then it is 20, 26/27, 32/33, … depends on your profession and builds. There is a severe problem with the current side-kicking system. If you don’t update your gear, you can become weaker and weaker when you gain level if you keep using the same gear. The multiplier applied to your downscaled stats at level 14 with level 14 gear is 14/14, but become 14/19 at level 19 (You are weakest at level 19 until you get the new gear set at level 20 to bring it back to 20/20 or that multiplier would be 14/20 which is 0.7, meaning you lose 30% more of every stats after downscaling).
(2) With the exception of some events that you cannot let a specific npc die, usually you want to let the npc ‘tank’ a while for you (unless you are a guardian/warrior and you are confident that you can take the hit). Let the npc die while you deal as much damage as you can, then finish the mobs, revive the npc. This is also useful in many cases in story quest. Run immediately when an encounter starts suddenly, then come back to participate is always a good option in this game.
(3) Traits priority should be always on Toughness and Vitality in low level because that +100 toughness/vitality means A LOT when your level is low, and become much less significant at high level. So, level 80 builds are not always a good choice for low level. You will get them reset twice at higher level after all.
It’s not the difficulty that matters, it’s the reward.
Unless there is at least a chest, you only want to do a champion’s event provided there are enough people to do it smoothly and quickly. Otherwise the reward is just the same as the one that needs you to beat an easy veteran.
In the first few weeks, people were still doing them for some new fresh experience, but now, people all realize that it is pointless to waste time on beating them. They would respawn sooner or later after all. A Champion without a chest is more likely just a road block.
(edited by Hologramx.6402)
I did it with all my 8 toons, 3 of them are level 13-15. Although a lot of deaths trying to bring them to get the book VI (you get one-shot by traps and mobs), it was fun and exciting. You need to be careful and move like a rogue. I only hope that Act 2 and following acts still allow them to complete as low levels, wouldn’t mind a bit of challenge.
Level 80s, Haunted Door Campings, Lower-level farming, and problems with level scaling
Posted by: Hologramx.6402
It’s not the scaling problem, it’s probably because most level 80s are wearing full exotic gears which make the differences.
Personally I think they should make killing those mobs possible only with a specific seasonal weapon that does not scale with anything. These weapons would do fix damage (with some AoEs) and need to be acquired through some quests.
I am a Japanese and we use romaji for guild chat because the client does not allow us to use Japanese Kanji. The problem is, current filtering system is littering our guild chats with **** because some of the filter words, such as ‘f’ ‘u’ ‘k’, is frequently used in Japanese conversation. For example, ‘f’ ‘u’ ’k’ai means deep, ‘f’ ‘u’ ’k’katsu mean revive, and many other commonly-used words are being censored by the filtering system.
Unlike map chat or global channel, I don’t think filtering guild chat is a ‘must’. At least give us an option to disable it please. Being unable to chat in Japanese is already a pain and such redundant filter system is not anything that we want.
After the patch, trying to craft multiple items (other than maximum) would not work anymore. Changing the number on the left of the craft button then hit craft would always only craft just 1 item for you. You can only craft 1 or maximum, or hit craft multiple times. This is fatal if you need to craft multiple components to craft the final products because you don’t want to use up all your mats for that components.
It’s a good start but I wonder how the rewards would vary from this. Currently only some champions at specific events drop a chest, while most champions give you nothing (not even something to loot) even though they are much harder than killing a veteran. I hope they take care of this kind of disparity. Anything harder deserves better reward, or you may end up somebody trying to solo a boss before letting others joining him (to make things much more difficult).
The Vista at Human’s Lament in Plains of Ashford is a typical example of how absurd they set their respawn rates. This is a starter zone so I don’t assume it is a mistake of tuning. 3 Veterans + tons of trashes on the way with rather close distance. Their assumptions are:
(1) You can always find a group easily to do this (worked only for 1st month)
(2) You are a warrior or guardian so you won’t get other veterans involved
(3) You can kill them very quickly because everyone has full exotics.
I don’t think any new player would like this.
I think the current legendary design is okay.
However, it is like you can only have either a bicycle (exotic) or a Ferrari (legendary). You can’t have any normal car like Toyota or Ford regarding glow/particle effects. That’s why I hardly play with my level 80s because if I gave up (which almost everyone does) on the legendary, you have no objective to achieve.
They should add something in middle, some with weak glow, some with stronger, but none can be comparable with the legendary.
Nerf the percentage to 1/5 of current stats but make it “Increase Magic Find for you and your party members”. Then at least they contribute to the group.
Bought some gems and tried to expand my bank tab. Surprised to know that I cannot expand to more than 8 bank tabs … I already have 8 characters and I am supposed to have only 1 tab for each of them?
There are many crafting mats and components that you want to keep in stock constantly and they don’t fit into the collection tabs. And there are also many mats that exceed the 250 limits in the collection tab that you have to keep them in the normal bank tabs. Then you also have many character bound gears that you probably want to keep at least until they are level 80. Maximum of 8 tabs is just too few.
I played in WoW for 3 years and I never have this problem because you can keep things in mailbox and you also have a lot more options to keep things, such as personal guild bank. I don’t think I can stand with this “Your bank is full” for long if I have to waste a lot of time managing them everyday. Oh yeah and it will headaches everyday.
Please let us have more bank tabs. And it will be best if we can name each bank tab (especially for soulbound items so you know which one is for which character).
After spending a lot of time writing a rather longer post, then when I posted it, sometimes it will redirect me to a login screen and … I lost everything I wrote after I logged in successfully. Back button in browser does not return what you wrote and the forum doesn’t even remember the sub forum you were in. And this “You need to login again” thing is almost happening everyday!
Please consider improving this seriously.
ANet should do something to that Free Transfer Button.
Don’t just sit there !
Heard someone talking like this in game?
Get to shore from the north east side of the vista, then you can approach from North and your level will be 71 against level 69 mobs.
Not sure if this is a bug or intended. It will be hard but still possible to approach from south if you know that when you run through that area, your level will be back to the appropriate level 71 near the vista. Losing and gaining 8 levels within a few meters in a blink is weird though.
I think this DR system is simply BROKEN. I was only leveling my alts to complete Renown Hearts and doing DEs on the way, then I got this DR start ticking on me. Okay I gave up and went to bed. 12 hours later I logged in again, did 2 events and the DR is still ticking and giving me less and less karma. WTH are they insisting you stop leveling and stop playing the game?
I was leveling my alt (level 28) in Diessa Plateau while completing the map. I have done this zone 3 times already so I know how to finish Renown Hearts quickly. I only repeated 2 or 3 events each once (most events are just abandoned and hardly anyone joining me) and after 6 hours or so in this zone (only 30 minutes for a break), I find myself hitting DR when I still have a few hearts left. And all these DRs (3 events in a row) came from event I have not yet done today.
The DR algorithm needs to be reworked because this is just insane. Leveling + Map Complete without a single thought of farming or repeating any event (simply did them when I had to pass the same location again), and actually I have skipped a few events which is hard to solo, then I got this DR punishment.
Leveling = Farming = Bot?
The current DR system is hurting many innocent players seriously.
(edited by Hologramx.6402)
Just did Level 16 “Accusation” and another WTF. 7-8 mobs hitting on you and your only choice is to die or leave the story instance.
So what’s the intention of this design? Make sure you always die? Make sure you get the frustration? Make sure that if you want to stop some sort of violence, you always get punished? It is like you get a fist on you from a shopkeeper the moment you enter a shop. Nightmare mode for everyone … sure you get a very decent response from your customer.
How about an option to fit both, those who needs and those who don’t.
Option: Only Display Commanders in your guild or friend list on map in PvE.
Ignore mob not in combat when you are in combat might be better.
You can always click target if you really want more not-in-combat mobs to join your fight. After all, currently the auto target system is always trying to add irrelevant mobs to your fight even though there are already a few right in front of you hitting on you.
How about an account bound monthly waypoint ticket that will let you use waypoint for free which lasts 30 days, for all your toons? I won’t mind paying 1000 gems for this every month and I assume many others would pay for it as well. I don’t mind a monthly subscription but I hate a system that make you feeling so bad every time you need to use a waypoint, to replace a subscription fee. It makes traveling in the game troublesome and most of all, it hurts your fun every time you use a waypoint because of the cost.
Why do I need to pay so much for just a few waypoint distance because there is a stuck or crazy event that blocks my way? Using waypoint is supposed to be fun and convenient but if “No monthly subscription” only causes frustration instead, I would rather pay for it.
Since I can’t see my own nameplate, I don’t even feel I already had it.
I can only assume others see it.
Now they can even see it through the wall.
OMG, what have I done?
Server transfers are hurting our server community (Jade Quarry - LONG)
in WvW
Posted by: Hologramx.6402
This “You can transfer for free every 24 hours” thing is absurd from the very beginning.
It’s like you can change your spouse everyday.
Absolutely no responsibility for the choice you made.
It’s ok for at most one week, not for this long.
Community and disciplines would be ruined before anything gets settled down.
There are many champion mobs out there that are very hard to kill and take a long time to kill, yet no chest and maybe drop a fine or masterwork piece. Same karma and silver reward as normal event. Those are pretty pointless other than the challenge, so I guess most people only wanna do them just ONCE, or only jump in when there are already a lot of people doing it and become easy to get reward for a few hits.
Even when I am soloing an event that needs you to defend two entrances or both sides of the bridge, groups of mob just keep spawning endlessly from both sides, immediately after the prior group is killed.
I guess their programmers need to be reminded that there is always API called sleep() or wait() in any system.
