Wow, I thought the staff would be mediocre in damage but I was wrong. It’s probably does the highest damage from any other weaponset. From that 5 k plus (3 hits) whirl damage 7 k Leap not to mention our awesome auto-attacks. Staff is like a combo GOD with the new physical skills. I’m truly impressed.

I just realized we all know the perfect words to describe Daredevil.
“Can’t Touch This”
Here’s exclusive footage of how Daredevil works:

Dodge BARRY Dodge!

Maybe they only get 1 character slot. I would be fine with that.
Einstein
I just wondering if the trait Unhindered Combat also increase your evade frame.
Unhindered Combat – Your dodge ability changes to Dash, which removes cripple and chill effects from you and increases the distance you dodge. Range 360.
Really curious about that 60 range does it give me .90 seconds of evade instead of .75 seconds as well. If that’s correct it means 5 dodge rolls is equivalent to 6 regular dodges.
Einstein
Honestly feel we’ve got the best spec out of all the other profession(maybe chronomancer comes close). Sure it isn’t something new. The irony is that the spec looks like it will work better with any other weapon that isn’t the Staff or Shortbow because you don’t have a blinding field to combo stealth. If you really wanted, you can swap weapons and do that, though the staff does brings something new that thief hasn’t had an ample supply of, and that is weakness.
Einstein
I do have to agree with some of what they are saying. It does seem like the "Daredevil’ traits are elite version of traits that could be in Acrobatics, Critical Strikes, and Deadly Arts. Almost like its an Elite Specialization or something.
Einstein
Can you imagine an AOE knockback/interrupt on the staff combined with initiative mechanic? Enter the stone age in PvP, where the ninjas and snipers don’t even exist. Can you say BAM! ?
Einstein
Daredevil fits perfectly. It’s a well thought out name, and frankly, I don’t see the fuss with name they are better than typical name such as “Berserker” , “Druid”. “Forge” is very original, So is “Tempest”, but let’s get down to the dictionary. the New Oxford Dictionary:
Thief : a person who steals another person’s property, especially by stealth and without using force or violence.
The Thief in GW2 does exactly what the dictionary says. Not using excessing force or violence, but rather excessing stealth.
Daredevil : a reckless person who enjoys doing dangerous things.
If we follow the same logic, the Daredevil is only the natural succession of the Thief. Except this time, the Thief turns increasingly reckless and actually enjoys doing crazy things.
Now what those crazy things are, we leave it to Arenanet to decide. Nevertheless the wording is undeniably accurate and well thought out.
Better than Assassin, or Rogue. Also stop talking about a American superhero character who shares the same name… Not everybody is into superheros and it doesn’t mean anything if they share the name…
Well put! I completely agree with you. Sometimes I am surprised by logical thinking on these forums. YOU HAVE NO PLACE HERE FOOL!

Hello,
I had a noob question regarding black lion skins. Do I unlock the skin if I use it on a weapon or do I need to store it in my Wardrobe? Also, can the skin be salvaged again of a weapon once I’ve used it?
Einstein
I ranked it on the difficulty I have facing professions on my thief and guardian (Most to least difficult to face in pvp).
1. Mesmer – Kills you and you don’t see it coming (little time to react). Can stall for help by removing conditions or you’re just killing yourself.
2. Elementalist – You see it coming, but there is nothing you can do about it(you get out of their way or you burn to death).
3. Guardian – If you don’t have multiple condition removal, don’t even bother fighting them. They burn you to death.
4. Necromancer – Either kills you really fast or tanks for days while their teammates kill you.
5. Warrior – Stuck somewhere in the middle. If you can outlast rampage, you can win the fight.
6. Ranger – See’s you coming from far away whittles your hp bar down as you come closer (If he doesn’t you just kill him). Sends pet to hunt you down. Pet has 80% chance to intercept shadow shot. Forces you to dodge roll out of the pets way to use shadow shot (making you a perfect target for rapid fire). If you don’t waste most of your skills getting close to him you have a decent chance to kill him.
7. Thief – 50/50 as a thief depends on who hits who first. I started playing as guardian honestly they really don’t give you any trouble mid and low tier.
8. Engineer – Remove the cc and just kill them.
Einstein
I thought Mug was changed to do the damage before Hidden Thief stealth is used. These two traits have gone back and forth in the order that they trigger in a lot though so maybe not. If it’s not because of Mug then Heartseeker must be hitting them after Hidden Thief stealths you when you steal. You don’t need to Black Powder -> Heartseeker when you are stealing with Hidden Thief to gain stealth anyway.
You’re right. I completely missed the hidden thief trait he mentioned.
Einstein
After you Heartseeker from Black Powder press backstab (make sure your steal is in range of your opponent at this time) then press steal right after it(within .25-.5 seconds of when you cast backstab). I know you might accidentally hit him from the front but this way the damage from backstab hits before you are revealed along with mug.

Need mods to close this thread. This is getting quite toxic. There’s too much hate for too many silly reasons. Name calling someone over their preference in a “fantasy” game is fatuous. Someone inform the mods! THE RED CAPES ARE COMING! THE RED CAPES ARE COMING!

I’m really hoping for the melee staff to be our weapon. Hopefully it can combo chain cc or remove it. That would make for a great secondary set.

f) use some actually good looking skin
That goes under option e) but thank you for your input.
Einstein
I just unlocked my 3rd Zenith weapon skin rewards. So far I have pistol and dagger unlocked.
Should I :
a) wait for thief weapon reveal
b) get staff skin anyway
c) get a Greatsword delete thief and make a mesmer
d) None of the above. Go with option e.
e) Other, recommendation.
I need a sign please. Getting very restless waiting for the thief weapon/spec reveal for the past couple of months.

Maybe they will reward us with a chance to get precursor to the main precursors’ once HoT expansion releases. This way we can build up to the main precursor and then legendary.
Example of implementation:
Choose a precursor reward track: sword/greatsword/staff/dagger/etc… (Passive track – can only be filled by wins, you should be able to do other reward tracks )
50 ranked wins = tier 1 precursor
100 ranked wins = tier 2 precursor
200 ranked wins = tier 3 precursor
400 ranked wins = tier 4 precursor
These should also have the option to be upgraded with mats to the next tier.
This will make pvp alot more rewarding and probably give people more incentive to pvp not just a particular group with high mmr. Just an idea I had.
Einstein
I’m really having trouble surviving the burns. I remove the conditions but guardian and elementalist just stack up more. If I disengage the fight they get their heal rotation up again.
Profession: Thief
I usually go DA, CS and TRICKERY
17.3K HP
Any elementalist/guardian/thief willing to let me know which skill/animation I need to dodge/interrupt will be greatly helpful against Guardians and Elementalist.

I hope you find your inspiration. This is my little thief. Love this nightmare set.

Hi,
I’ve picked up pvp again after 6 months and I’m doing a little bit of soloque. I’m having trouble dealing with spirit rangers and bunker/(spirit hammer) guardians when trying to cap points. I usually run D/P and D/S as a thief(main). Any advice would be helpful thank you. Is there a specific build or way to approach these two builds?

I really like the idea of Legendary Weapons earned Tpvp. Gaining glory is nice, but isn’t very meaningful as a glory farmer walking with a Legendary would reduce its’ value. Maybe after ranking(rating) single/duo que is added gaining certain achievements in ranked tournament play could add to the progress of gaining a Legendary Weapon in pvp.
Einstein
Every class can do this.
If you have an instant cast teleport ability of any kind, you can use it in the middle of any other channeled ability or cast.
Yes….but other classes can’t do 15k damage in 1-2seconds, nor can they tp directly to a target while channeling other skills and also dealing considerable damage with the no animation leap.
They need a cool down for all invs skills, and stealing as with any other tp skills needs to have a visual effect so other players are able to use dodge skill.
Something like this is already in place. It is called revealed. If you attack from stealth you cannot re-stealth again for 3 seconds.
Einstein
Thief have 2 way of being. glass canon or less glass canon.
The point is.. Thief without super burst have no way on winning a skilled player.Coming from a thief who has not played a “glass cannon build” for a long time, You’re dead wrong. Thief isn’t only super burst damage, that’s just the easy, and when I say easy I mean EASY build for killing people. There is other builds….1 Example – Venom hp leaching build, you can hold your own in pretty much any situation.
Think outside the instagib burst damage box.
Leeching build isn’t all that great. The trait allows you get back around 382 health back per hit with a venom skill applied(after patch). That is 1910 health is you go through spider venom. The build scales on power(tested with a little over 3k power). Venom skills are very limiting as the number of strikes are too few to give to enough sustain to be effective. If you fill all utilities with venom skill it will do more harm than good(no condition removal(shadow step), no blinding powder etc…).
Einstein
Uhm where is stealth fix, or i just dont know how to read???
Read the Anet Post above about the Culling bug fix. Stealth got fixed. Your welcome.
Einstein
people say it took GW1 years for these other PVP game types to come out…buuuttt…this is GW2…why would we have to wait forever again for new PVP game types that they (the ANet PVP Team) should already be experienced with and should not have a hard time making in GW2 since they have years of experience with GW1.
Just an observation.
it’s because GW1 and GW2 are only similar in setting. This is a whole new game with lots of new things to it that a lot of MMOs have never tried before. I understand if they’re a little weary and taking it slowly.
Look at class balance now. Imagine how bad it would be across multiple game modes.
Also to address the OP. I’m pretty sure it’s called guild wars for lore reasons, not because player guilds can fight each other.
1) Honestly the only thing “new” in this game are the “dynamic” quests and having them non-instanced. Clever little implementation. Non-instanced environment however, are features that should be standard in 2012, I am not impressed at all. Other than that, GW2 smells like every other game on the market.
GW1 til this date has the most revolutionary/in depth skill/spell system in my opinion. It’s a fun game, GW2’s auto-pilot attacking is not.
2) “Guild Wars” is just lore? Are you kidding me? Is this a loltroll? You’re saying Anet totally dropped the core bread and butter of what they’re known for only to release a “F2P PvE WoW”? I’m sick and tired of hearing “F2P” used as some excuse/rationale, you honestly can’t even pay me to play this boring game.
I played GW1 6+ years since DAY 1, it was F2P and NEVER felt like I should “leave and come back months later”. Anet dropped the ball here, it’s plain and clear for everyone to see.
You should play Thief in Guild Wars 2 sPvP. It’s a stress reliever especially in sPvP. Have some tea in breaks, I find it very calming and relaxing. I enjoy GW2 sPvP, and I agree it can be greatly improved. Most importantly take it easy, its no reason to pop a vein over something you don’t enjoy. Take a break from it if you must. It won’t hurt it’s F2P.
Einstein
right gws 1 we had GvG, HA, TA, RA, JQ, FA, AB
now we only get stuck with AB the LEAST popular and LEAST competitive of all of the pvp types in gws1
I believe they will be adding some of the other pvp archetypes later on. Best thing about GW2 is that it’s f2p after initial cost. So you can drop it and pick it up again when your desired features are added. I do miss those features of GW1 in that I agree with you. Hopefully we get these features before the next expansion that way, the games pvp aspects(E-sports) are boosted in popularity with an influx of players provided by other expansions.
Einstein
Add a duel block an it will be fine (on by defualt) I hate walking around and only ever seeing “You are challenged to a duel” by the same guy every 2 seconds, cause declining him once obviously doesn’t mean that I don’t want to duel.
Or even have “Mr xX Love Kitens Xx is trying to duel you:
1 accept
2 decline
3 block all duels (this setting is changeable in the options menu)”
Yes, I like the idea of a duel. Maybe right click character select duel with a accept or decline option from the other character. With a option in the menu saying (check box) accept all duels or decline all duels.

competitive tpvpers = minority.
If you don’t fix something that is causing disdain with the majority of your playerbase you end up with a dead game.
just a thought.
p.s. they have already stated they are adjusting thief burst.
I think the 8v8 format should be brought to 5v5 in sPvP. Also, by your logic thieves should get whatever they want because they are the majority of sPvP….
Einstein
Ghostly spiders and shadow fiends are not spawning. Also event quest is not activating.

DD hard counters Zergs in sPvP. Spread apart a little more.

I believe this to be the thief. Why?
-Widest Skill Cap in game (Low to High skill required to play class well in PvP)
-Best Survivability in game (Stealth).
-Best Mobility in game
-Highest Burst DPS in game
-AoE second to none (Shortbow)
- Initiative
This reminds me of the Terran’s in Starcraft. Nerf them every patch and they will always find a build that vastly easier to play or flat out lasts their competition. Their mechanic’s have been put so well together(initiative & stealth) that you have to punish them for being good at what they do to balance them. Do I know how to balance them? Nope. Can I make suggestion? Yes. Should other classes get buff? Some.
What do you think is the most versatile profession? And Why?
Einstein
(edited by IDICERI.4268)
No only in duration, but theives need to take a hit to their speed or someone else needs a buff to theres, they cant be the fastest only class with that many escapes.
You can remove Signet of Shadows from the game it won’t affect thieves 1 bit. A good thief will always bring these 2/3 utilities aside from heal. 1 Shadow Step. 2 Blinding powder or shadow refuge. The third utility is of players choosing but the 1st 2 is a must. It is not that SoS is a bad choice, its just that there are so many better choices than that skill. Also a thief gets his mobility from the Shortbow not from SoS.
Einstein
Cool so it still a waste of a skill slot good to know.
Einstein
So my next question is does it stack with swiftness?
Einstein
I thought signet of shadows passive only worked out of combat? Can anyone confirm?
Einstein
I have loved playing thief since beta, but I see inevitable changes coming for the thief.
My prediction:
Trait
Mug: Damage reduced by 20%
Executioner: Damage reduced to 10%
Skill:
Assassins’ Signet: Now apply 120% damage on next attack instead of 150%. Cooldown reduced to 20 seconds
Heart-seeker: When evaded it cost 150% more initiative. (Or you can always change functionality and give D/X a parry)
Einstein
GankSinatra calm down buddy, I was just reporting a bug.
Einstein
When I combo Cloak and Dagger with Shadow Step I do not appear to be in stealth(half way through CnD animation you shadow-step to target foe and CnD lands). However, I do still get the icon that I am in stealth as my first skill changes to be back-stab, but I am still visible.
Einstein
(edited by IDICERI.4268)
@Burrid You need to hit assassin’s signet after you use cloak and dagger so it will go something like this Steal>Cloak and Dagger>Assassins Signet>Backstab
Einstein
I cant understand or how to survive against Thief, ANet try to nerf it, but doesn’t work…
http://imageshack.us/a/img823/6254/gw040v.jpg (Damage)
http://imageshack.us/a/img411/7370/gw041kp.jpg (My Stats)Really Toughness do something? or is a useless stat?
Dancing Daggers bounce of nearby allies and hit you again. In your case you are an engineer and probably had turrets up and the thief threw a dancing dagger at you. It bounced of you hit your turret and hit you again.
13263/5 = 2653 so if you were to spread out a little more you would have most likely taken 5305 which is still a lot but not something that would kill you and the thief would run out of initiative.
As a full glass cannon thief you do a little over 3k damage with dancing dagger on 1 hit on base armor of 900. So you toughness brought damage down by about 700-800 damage. So your toughness cut about 4000 damage from 5 hits. Is toughness worth it you decide.

I am not sure but the thieves down spike is mostly to blame. Every time I am spiked by a thief in tpvp I get bugged on loading screen.
Einstein
If this doesn’t open your eyes nothing will. Add 2 capture points(which doesn’t give you points) in sPvP where you pull a Sword from the ground. Symmetrically placed closer to each of the bases. You do not get points from pulling the Sword out. Once the Sword is activated F6 you can call down thunder at a location within your mini map which grants Sight Beyond Sight.
Sight beyond Sight: For next 30seconds: stealth foes are revealed. All illusions and clones are shattered. Casting retaliation grants caster a 15% death penalty. Necromancers are mummified for going into Deathshroud or Lich Form but do not take damage. Warriors are now allowed to kill people who aren’t scrubs. Rangers can now use Greatsword in their weapon set……..hmm. Elementalist can’t block but can now use iniative and require less skill to play for a higher reward. Engineers bombs now do as much damage to themselves as their opponents when they are in its range.(2 minute cool-down 2000 diameter range)
Balance changes done purely by reading poster opinion on forums with my own little touch. No in game experience testing needed.
Am I missing something? Please list down below XD
