Agreed, spvp is just 4 map rotation and personally I dont undertsanding the thinking behind wvw just a massive zerg and lots of walking.
Im amazed at the effort devs have put into hallowen when there is such little pvp content.
You could knock up another 4 maps with a different game mode in about a week if you wanted.
I dont get it.
Anet wants gw2 to be an esport because it = more money. With more maps they think people wont be able to catch on as quickly / will not know whats going on in commentaries, so they stick to 4 maps.
Try ele bunker build, its pretty fun with a staff and amazing with d/d
Agreed, needs more stuff to do in pvp. I thought this was supposed to predominantly be a pvp game. Yet all I see are dev’s responding to pve issues and discussions.
I love the mechanics of this game but have got so bored that I am literally rotating classes..
I disagree with second poster saying ANet don’t know what they’re doing though. I think that they are just slow with the pvp side of it, since they concentrate too much on pve. WvW isn’t pvp either.
Well theyre okay on balance and stuff like that, but as far as the pvp in general… We only have 1 pvp game type because anet wants the game to be an esport so they can make more money. They think people wont catch on with more than one game type because it will get too confusing (they think we’re kitten . Thats also the same reason why boons and conditions are so simplified. In gw1 it was so much better with multiple enchantments, hexes and conditions. Another thing theyve done is decreased the total amount of skills so people can handle and understand what everyone is doing… All of this so they can make gw2 an esport and make money, and its not even an esport, lol.
Oh and no hot join 5v5 yet? Yeah, anets heads are up their keysters on that one.
For the most part imo anet doesnt have a clue what theyre doing as far as pvp goes. Ide suggest to get rid of the entire pvp department over there and get a new one if my opinion mattered, because theyre too obsessed with this esport nonsense. If its going to be an esport, then it will be… you cant force it.
Elementalists have 4 different attunements… 20 different weapon skills. Thats why their cooldowns are more significant.
Also, its does much much more damage against burning than an autoattack… unless your auto attacks hit for 5k.
@livewire
Im not going to change my chat channels and review every single thing that killed me every time i die. I just want to see the big things in a clear menu.
Less worthless traits that nobody would ever pick… seriously theres like 20 of them.
Paid tournament/free tournament tokens. You get the best skins in the game within a few hours, no leveling required.
However, the less effort something takes to get equates to the less value you hold to it.
I have a creeping suspicion that this thread will be locked in the near future…
It gives fury and swiftness when you use an aura, but the times vary. With frost aura it gives much less time than with shocking aura… I dont know about the others though.
When we die, we need more statistics. Total damage done, total damage taken, total damage healed are all musts. Could go deeper like total condition dmg etc but we need to know more.
well you are assuming that ever player that isnt a bunker is pure glass cannon, and its not like that at all.
Now that downed state has been buffed to allow a vapor form every time you are downed, it has caused another problem. You cant see what has killed you when you mist form… it just gives you a blank sheet after you get out of mist form…
I really wish i knew what was killing me, so its either use mist form and deal with not knowing, or “give up” when i get downed just so i can see whats doing damage to me.
Please fix soon… like right after you fix ride the lightning.
Ya i have not played in 2 weeks the lack of rewards vs effort is just not worth it.
Yet you are still roaming the forums? I think you still want to play the game, you just feel obliged to not play it because of false thoughts made as an excuse…
Anyways, you can look at this from 2 ways –
1. The average joe in hot-join spvp. Hes not very good at the game, and hes just trying to have fun. How do you think he feels when he presses “play now” and gets put into a game where a full guild team stomps the crap out of him?
2. The guild player wanting an option to play with his friends on the same team. Thats totally understandable and there should be a way to do it.
Which one does anet favor? The average joe, obviously.
Well its anets fault so the only thing i’m going to do is curse at anet…
Or they could create a new tournament style, called something like random, where there is no premades whatsoever. 5 random people on each team with 2 minutes before the match to strategize. I think that would be quite fun..
That or they could just make some of the 200 unused pvp servers into 10 player cap servers…
Anet wants gw2 to be an esport, and thats why they are making buffs/conditions simpler than their gw1 counterparts, and thats also the reason why we only have one mode and only a few maps. They want everyone to be able to understand it and get into it.
Thats stupid because it comes at the expense of the people that actually play the game, and dont spectate it. And its not like theyve done a good job making gw2 into an esport, because its not even close to esport status… I think they need to give up on this whole esport thing overall and just make the game fun.

Im Too Godlike
Remove the rabbit/dolyak finisher tokens all together and just make the finishing animation based on rank… I dont know why the system isnt like this but it should be.
Oh and if you dont change it to that, then make finishers stack in duration…
After the recent patch i get the same error when i try to join an spvp match, “the current world you are trying to join is full”. Before the patch i the error would pop up once and then i would be able to join a match that i wanted, but now the error keeps popping up. The only way i can get into a match is to press play now, and its kind of annoying because i always get put into matches with 1 or 2 people in them.
Only half your team got the patch…?
Idk about fixing most of the elementalists problems, i think theyve fixed about 25% of the elementalists problems in that patch… Still a long way to go.
Just give a small amnt of points for healing a specific amount as well as a point every few seconds for defending, it really isnt a hard fix.
This game lost alot when it decided to go without secondary professions.

This game is okay and all, i love the pvp combat. However, I dont see myself still playing this game in a month or so because i’m already getting bored. Why? It’s because there is only like 3 viable builds you can run on each profession (max) and once u run all them and get tired of them… then what?
A huge part of the fun in gw1 in pvp was choosing a secondary that would work well with your build, like monks using warrior secondary for defensive stances and warriors using assassin secondary for dagger attacks. It kept me amused for more than 5 years, and 6,000+ hours of gameplay.
Why did they off secondaries? Well, its because they figured it would be too hard to balance all the cross profession combinations. And they were right. It would be hard, but finding that op combo just makes the game that much better. I think the game lost a lot of potential when they decided to cancel plans for a secondary, and i think it would be great for them to release secondary professions in a DLC (although that is highly unlikely)
And for the record they did balance gw1 pretty well. Nothing got too far out of hand, so i dont see why it would be that much of a problem here.
New games are coming… Making a thread to cry about it isnt going to make them come any faster tho.
@TGSlasher, with staff ele spam aoes on the point / on yourself when theyre melee and things will die and you will get points.
AoEs arent for skirmish 1v1s, theyre for putting on a point and watching people explode. The best way to use them in skirmish 1v1s are either place them on yourself vs a melee or immobilize and place on them if they are ranged.
A lot of professions have some way of stomping in a 1v2 situation, usually with invuln + stability. Thief can stealth-stomp easily, mist form works for eles, invuln + stability for basically every other class.
Why hasnt anet fixed spvps problems? Were almost 2 months in now and theres still huge gamebreaking problems imo, just to name a few big ones
-No hot join 5v5? like what the hell? 8v8 is just a massive zerg fest and when i want to play an ACTUAL pvp game i have to do a tournament against much better people running premades… Its a joke. Its not like making half the servers 10 player cap would be hard…
-Elementalist downed state – STILL ridiculously underpowered. I dont have to comment on this one.
-The point system? Rewards selfish play, and doesnt reward defending or supporting. Makes everyone in hot join run glass cannon builds and the whole thing becomes a zerg fest. I recommend gw1 points system, where glory is done by team.
-We have to PAY to have a server? On a game we already bought? That’s just stupid. I dont know the details on this and i dont want to know, because having a server for just you and your friends should never cost anything.
-Raid of Capricorn is the worst map ever created in any game. Ever. Still waiting on an option to not play it that doesnt cost money, like owning a private server.
-No ranking system? I dont know if this will be implemented soon or ever, but it needs to come for this is be a competitive game.
-I heard they’re putting in k/d ratio? I hope thats a joke on a game like this.
These are just some of the problems i can think of off the top of my head. I’m sure there’s many more. The balance is pretty good though, i suggest anet takes a step back from balancing (after ele downed state gets reworked) and focuses on some other problems.
Dear gifted native speaker,
You have posted this in the wrong section.
Spvp bunker ele says hi… one of the most op builds in the game atm.
I was so hyped about this game. A year ago i was checking guildwars2.com every day, waiting for more info. But now that its here… I dont want to play it. Maybe its because i already knew about everything in it before i even played it, or whatever, but i havent even logged 200 hours on this game.
Pve got too tedious and i stopped at level 30 because it wasnt fun for me, at all. PvP is better but not by much… I can only play 2 or 3 games before i have to stop playing and play other game.
So why dont i like this game? Is it just not for me or what?
>surviving 5v1 with bunker ele build
lay aoes and stand in them, thief will have no chance if he is melee. if he is pistols use magnetic aura as much as u can and immobilize him in your aoes, remove conditions asap as well.
Im going to go ahead and make a prediction that your prediction is wrong.
I thought it cost 5 tournament tickets per team or per person, i might be wrong.
And im sure anet has thought out any possible economic flaws with this…
Why do you care how much they have? If they are good enough to win 300 tournaments then why cant they have some tourney tickets?
shard or sliver? because slivers are very rare and i think you can only get from gold boxes.
I guess by that logic you can only get shards from silver+ boxes? I’m not sure about any of this tho.
Aww poor kids arent satisfied with being able to 2 shot every single class =[ som1 please buff this immediately, a temporary invulnerability available continously isnt good enough.
- What would you pay to rent a private server? It’s an important question because this is the point where free-to-play can go away. To be a serious sPvP you’ll have to have one of these just as much as you’ll have to have a vent or mumble server. The difference is voice chat servers have become free of charge. IMO the award of GEMS for pay tournaments is probably a setup to justify the upcoming cost of the rental, but to what end? What would you pay? 800 GEMS ($10 USD) 1600 GEMS ($20 USD)? What do you think is a fair monthly price to rent an Arena for your team?
I’m not going to pay a penny to host a private server ; I already bought the game, why should i have to pay more for a feature thats free in virtually every other game? I really hope ANet is joking about renting servers costing something. That’s just ridiculous.
I use it as a combo finisher and spiker. lay this down and switch to fire with lava font for some solid damage (provided u have some sort of cc)
Uh, no ‘sizeable buff’ was promised at all. And it only enhances a single weapon which doesn’t exactly help the elementalists that aren’t specced for close quarter combat with daggers at all.
And while a down state rework is very much needed, it only solves 1 out of many things that actually need to be done.
I think you will be surprised when u see how much qq goes away when our downed state gets buffed. When people lose a fight and go into downed state, they feel like kitten already and the inability for them to interrupt their stomper makes them feel even more powerless. 80% of the qqers about elementalists are coming straight from a death in spvp.
it’s perfectly fine to play elementalist if you’re not into TPvP. personally, i have roughly a kdr of 3 in hot joins, while playing thief and spamming heartseeker only gets me a kdr of ~2. if you’re getting crushed, it’s either you’re playing ele like you would any other class, or you’re using staff.
Staff eles are actually very powerful. Anet is looking into nerfing them (more specifically the heals in water attunement)
And a downed state rework for eles is in the works. Been announced by an anet staff member.
Its been stated that the mainhand dagger is getting a sizeable buff soon as well as a downed state rework. That should solve a lot of problems.
Saying guardians are the best at point defense, thieves are best at roaming, and mesmers are best at 1v1 is really ridiculous. I couldnt find a more false statement on this forum if i tried. Pvp depends on skill. A guardian with a burst setup can be just as good of a roamer as a thief (often better). In short, a skilled roamer/pt defender/1v1er is better than an unskilled one, classes make no difference.
You can’t roam on a guardian he may have some good burst with a greatsword it won’t be merely as good as a thief who can get from point A to B a hell of a lot faster because of his 5 skill on shortbow as well as 25% passive movement speed, and will down the opponent faster than a guardian ever could. Roaming classes can’t have too much ramp up time on their damage (like a guardian) so they can spend as little time as possible in combat, and be able to move on.
Asking a thief to bunker down a point is alsokitten even if he somehow can actually stay alive vs multiple opponents when he’s the sole focus target he has no way of actually staying on the point, no way to get them off the point (ie no knockbacks) outside of actually killing them, and some of the main defensives of a thief make him go into stealth which doesn’t let you contest nodes meaning they can get a neutralize if you decide to shadow refuge to remove conditions.
Guardians on point defense can stay alive for an extremely long time through tanking and cooldown rotation on top of that their knockback abilities allow to get some breathing room, and make even neutralizing the point much more difficult.
Even classes that CAN do both (which require extremely different trait allocation, and itemzation for either role) will still have their strengths and weaknesses such as bomb Engineers being better at bunkering outer points such as waterfall because their bombs are a lot more likely to hit targets trying to capture the point, but guardians being much better in graveyard on Foefire since it’s an extremely large node, and bombs are actually very easy to avoid while contesting it, but guardians cooldowns will still be just as effective.
TL;DR
Clearly you’ve never seen a burst guardian that knows how to leap of faith dash. You use leap of faith, cancel it at last moment so it gets sent on a 3 second cooldown, and repeat. You can stay even with a thief using a shortbow. And as for saying they cant down someone as fast? What a joke. Greatsword number 3 hits 5k+ dmg and sword 3 hits for 5k+ dmg as well. Thats just 2 skills. Dont believe me? Godly Guardian, ill show you.
Yeah i think this stupid, if you stealth they arent going to be able to land the rest of their spell on you. But thats just how it is i guess.
Nothing he said about class balance is untrue (except Warriors’ downed state being op, imo). It doesn’t have to do with the class he’s playing, either. Mesmer, Thief, and Guardian currently fulfill their respective roles better than any other classes in the game.
No class is better than Thief at roaming. No class is better at 1v1 and trebuchet defense than Mesmer. No class is better at group support and point defense than Guardian. There’s a reason that every competitive 5v5 team runs at least one of each of these classes. That’s obviously a problem.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that those classes need to be nerfed, it just means that other classes need to be equally desirable in a competitive environment. That might mean buffs for them, nerfs for the others, or a combination of the two.
Saying guardians are the best at point defense, thieves are best at roaming, and mesmers are best at 1v1 is really ridiculous. I couldnt find a more false statement on this forum if i tried. 8v8 is 100% meaningless. You lose half the games, people leave, I leave, I make a new char and join an be a complete noob etc etc. The only point of 8v8 is to see how your abilities work and relax a bit.
Go 5v5 solo queue. I’ve won tourneys with random teams and most of the time we make it to the second match. Occasionally you get crushed but at least you get to play some good 1v1s.
There is no rank and nothing to lose from going 5v5 tourney solo, only to gain.
Well its not like hot join, i cant play as selfishly as i want to get as much glory (well i can but my team wouldnt be happy) and the 5 minute timer before each game? i end up getting half the play time as i would just hotjoining, and that playtime is valuable glory booster time.
How can you two be so cold… guess thats just the average barely pubescent teenage boy.
Op brings some nice points and he has valid reason to feel the way he does. The game isnt polished at all, tons of tool tips are wrong and skills are buggy. And typos? lol. The balance is pretty awful to me as well but i guess other people playing those op profs and builds would probably say its completely balanced.
