RoyHarmon: Those are probably items that, too will actually be account bound in next week’s patch instead of just saying they are. Probably good reasons for it.
Voice comm required to run a 5 man casual MMO? If that’s working as intended, this game is going to be a laughing stock. I successfully raided endgame everquest and vanilla/BC WoW before voice com was ubiquitous. A game should be playable with the tools that it provides. To require more technology than a game provides you to achieve success in any content, let alone a meaningless 5 man dungeon that provides nothing but cosmetic upgrades, is outrageous.
Basically what you’re all defending is Anet putting a stopgag on dungeon PvE. There is no endgame in this game, there’s no raids, there’s nothing. It was a bad idea from the start to design a game so that there would be no raiding endgame, that’s what MMOs have always been and always will be about as the endgame. There’s literally nothing else to do if you don’t want to WvW or sPvP or do jumping puzzles like a twelve-year old girl.
I agree with the earlier poster than Anet only took a month to slit its own throat.
I actually never dungeon run with voice chat, and I clear all routes of Arah, CoE, CoF every day. I run CM exp in my spare time with guildies or pugs I am interested in recruiting because they show competence every day, that dungeon is seriously easy with just a few basic tactics.
This.
Endgame in GW2 is cosmetic or additive armor sets for different builds. GW has always differed from the gear grind of other games, and still mostly is. There’s also multiple endgame content you could focus on, such as (Cosmetic or different sets/profs) gear, wvwvw, sPvP, achievements, dungeons for fun and perfecting them, minipets, dyes, etc. Besides, the word is soon new endgame content will be released.
I’m baffled by the amount of people that don’t understand that gw2 was only recently released. Look at Rift, when that game was released you couldn’t even level past 20 because the content wasn’t done yet. GW2 has a VERY VERY VERY respectable launch amount of content, as well as the bugs being minor (with the exception of skill point bugs in the recent days, and the dungeon party bugs a few weeks ago).
Compare this with (I don’t want to do this) WoW, and it’s already going better than the most played and best known MMO ever.

So it’s no longer possible to run dungeons with ppl from another worlds/realms?
I still do this even today. Seems to be local.
To be honest 5 warriors would be one of the few professions that could actually finish dungeons due to the sheer amount of knocks they have at their disposal, as well as shouts and flags and ability to take hits.
Actually, the only profession that could probably not make this happen would be Necro. But I might be wrong there, it’s the profession I least understand.
Alright, that might be the case, but anyway, I feel like the game requires a level of theorycrafting that I’ve never encountered in WoW as a non-hardcore player. I won’t complain, nor will I try and compare Guild Wars 2 and WoW, but after so many MMOs, I simply don’t have the energy to learn every little detail of the game anymore in order to do dungeons. Therefore, I will simply stop playing the game, while still being grateful for the opportunity of exploring the great world that is Tyria.
You personally don’t have to. Join a dungeon guild. It’s really quite rewarding and void of requiring energy when you get it right, which shouldn’t take long at all provided you found someone that knows how to do it correctly. I personally devise and find all the tactics for my guild, the rest only has to follow. That’s how I recruit too, all hand picked, dungeons are fun and rewarding if I do them with people I know will and can do their jobs as well as hold their own in combat. The more I play with them, the less I have to explain, even if its a totally new thing. It’s really more a learning curve and different way of thinking than anything.
Did all three paths just now, no problems anywhere.
People are saying you need a wide variety of utilities from different professions to complete dungeons. But how about their promise that you could actually do a dungeon with 5 warriors if you so chose? Right now, that’s pretty much impossible. They said they wanted to move away from the WoW-raid system because that way only a select few would see content (which isn’t even true anymore, because of the implementation of LFR), but what did they come to? Well, they’ve created dungeons where even story modes make you grind your teeth in frustration. And if you aren’t doing dungeons what else is there to do? Farm mindlessly in Orr? No thank you. I’m done with the game and I’m not going to say I didn’t get my money’s worth because I did. The leveling and exploring Tyria were interesting, but I simply have run out of things to do.

I don’t understand why people are punished for clearing dungeons in a timely manner. If it’s not from some bug or skipping content I don’t see a reason to punish people for using teamwork and ability to speed through your dungeon.
I’m not going to explain this in every thread posted about it..
And what reference material do you have to show Arenanet is in fact doing a bad job? You’ve shown no knowledge of programming or you would understand how hard it is to fix bugs, you’ve shown no prior experience with game launches (Google some wow release reviews, the game was virtually unplayable for three months).
Perhaps it is you who needs to be beaten with a virtual stick!
There’s truth in this, and there’s also the fact that the game is new with ALOT of new features and philosophies on MMO’s. Patience, man.
Imo this dungeon or any other is no longer worth doing at all. While i do like the skins of some of the armor and weapons it’s just not worth the headache to get. Your basically telling me to buy a ferrari with the same performance specs as a volvo. This is just a desperate and game killing attempt Anet pulled to stop exploiters when all they really needed to do was tweak the dungeons to fix the exploits and put a lockout timer on it. So well done Anet you have finally slit your own throats and it’s no wonder your losing players to Borderlands 2 which is a console game for crying out loud. Now how about you reverse this patch, fix the exploits in a way that doesn’t screw over EVERYONE and actually get some decent programming staff that can finally fix thesekittenbugs that have been around since headstart.
My my, aren’t we hostile? Arena net has been doing a MUCH BETTER job fixing bugs than any other MMO launch I’ve ever experienced. I’m perfectly fine with diminishing returns on speedclearing, because exploits are EXPECTED at this stage of an MMO. The new limit is a soft one, one most people won’t even hit. Unfortunately it’s bugged, and I’m hoping on a hotfix for that or I’ll be leveling a couple new 80’s this week.
Geez, 30 minutes for a run is very acceptable and defeats the purpose of exploiting quite neatly until the exploits are found and fixed.
Like the 4th thread on the issue. Please check existing topics first.
I actually finished CM story mode with pugs, one of which was level 22 and thus permanently down and not participating. 4 people against all those things, and we pulled through just fine, because everything is kiteable and focussable. The only thing that annoyed me alot was the pack hounds chain fearing us, get hit by one and you’re feared forever.
Lol MMO where you can’t find a pick-up group? That’s comical. Good luck Anet.
You can find pick-up groups for just about everything in this game. However, PUG’s were never intended to do explorable mode dungeons. Although they can be done, but with usually a lot of frustration, they were never designed with PUG groups in mind. Anet has said this time and time again.
Though you can easily do it with PUGs, given you explain the tactics to them and allow them to take a couple tries to get it down (some faster than others)
That’s very true. ANet said that explorable modes were meant for a coordinated group of individuals. Generally that means a group of friends talking over vent, or something similar, who pay attention to the game.
I’ve been in several groups where I would mark a target and still be the only person fighting it as everyone else picked a different mob. If people actually focus down 1 target at a time the places become a joke, some things are still hard like the airship portion where you’re trying to nuke the dragon spawn but adds just keep spawning. Oddly enough, even though I entered down state a huge number of times, my repair bill at the end was only 1.5s which I made with 1 item drop.
How To: Dungeon Win! –
1. Do NOT go in with a glass cannon spec and/or gear. Make sure you have some survivability. Get some Knight Armor, masterwork will run you 10-20s for a full set and has Power/Pre/Toughness, and pop some Soldier runes in for added toughness/vitality/power. If you are going in with Berserker Armor and a spec with no defensive utilities/traits then expect to die, over and over and over and over and over again and DO NOT come to the forums complaining about how hard the dungeon is!2. Mark targets! Use CTRL + T to mark a target that everyone should focus on. Generally you want to take Ranged out first as they can’t be kited. Use Snares/Stuns to keep melee at bay. If everyone is focusing on an individual mob then fights are going to take FOREVER and you are going to have countless deaths.
3. Revive people that are in downed state asap but do NOT revive people that are dead, unless all the mobs are down. If you see someone drop and you can save them then do so! If there is a huge AoE around them then do NOT attempt to revive them until it is gone. You don’t want to kill yourself trying to save someone else.
4. If you die on a boss do NOT bumrush him by zerging over and over again from a waypoint. If he is almost dead and you can make it in time then, by all means, feel free to do it but if it looks like it’s going to be a wipe try to avoid rez zerging. Regroup, figure out what you did wrong, and start from the beginning.
Those are the 4 basic things you need to know to clear a dungeon with as little pain as possible. If you don’t want to follow those simple tips then I don’t want to see you on the forums, or in game chat, complaining about how hard it is and how many times you died. There are, of course, going to be bugs that need to be reported and tuning changes that need to be done but the majority of the reasons a dungeon is hard is because people want to run in with no survivability and whack anything and everything they see as if no one else was there.
Last one is pretty important, you can waste alot of time if the boss isn’t kitable until everyone is back. Again, there’s always a solution. +1 to you.
I’m becoming more and more sure that the problem is not a product of just this patch. The symptoms are too random, I think it’s a product of multiple restrictions placed on rewards not completely removed or something from previous patches, since everyone gets DR’d differently. So, people like me who’ve seen all the patches and played dungeons on all of them don’t even get the first full reward.
Just guessing though, obviously.
No.
The fact is they dont even know what rewards we’re supposed to be getting.
Two threads about borked rewards and the devs in each one give different answers.
“Oh thats out Diminishing Returns system at work.”
“This may be bugged. Please tell us your dungeon, how long it took, and how long ago your last dungeon run was… also what dungeon was that and how long it took.”
How are we supposed to know what we should be getting if no one is telling us? I can cut them slack on bugs and things going wonky on a new game this size, but the lack of clarity on this is incredibly grating.
WTB “RULES OF DUNGEON RUNNING REWARDS” sticky thread posted by a dev.
There’s a sticky without too much detail, but basicly the idea is you should always be getting 60 tokens on your first run on every route. Which is not the case for almost all of us, even if we switch dungeons + characters. Plus the fact that we don’t even get the full reward on the very first route and dungeon we do for the day, and party members that have run together from the start get different rewards for an unknown reason.
From what I understand story mode is not supposed to require vent and a guild team, or is this wrong? I’d like to be able to see content in PuG teams since I can’t always find a guild group or have 4 friends willing to do a run at any given time.
Also there is a difference between a fun, challenging fight (due to mechanics, not untelegraphed oneshots) and trying to kill 6 mobs with a billion HP each that can 2 shot you while chain knocking you around. That’s just irritating.
You know those mobs? Your party can use their skills to make even this fight easy. If everyone does their job well, they’re all keeping busy being effective and important, and everyone is happy. If you still hate being targeted, play dps ranger and just sit back and shoot.
In fact, with a guardian, mesmer/ele and necro, the rest of your party can just sit back and dps just like people are used to from other mmos.

I for one am happy they reward you at the end. the only two boss Arah runs were annoying the hell out of me, not just because of repetativeness, but because the unwillingness to get past the third boss, which can easily be cleared with some leadership.
I must say that it is a rather effective way to counter exploiters until exploits have all been fixed. I myself perfectly understand these measures, only if they were working properly and not limiting every run, that’d be great.
1) You mentioned that “They also act as a deterrent to prolong the life of the game” which might be the most wrong statement in the history of statements. It is, in fact, the exact opposite.
Complaining isn’t a bad thing in itself. How else would a developer know about our feelings on the game unless everyone only ever had positive things to say? Nothing can be fixed if nobody ever complains.
These dungeons aren’t challenging, they are hard. They are hard because the only element in them that isn’t easy is that every enemy and their grandmothers have a lot of hp and can 1-hit kill you. I never feel like a proper strategy will help because the only strategy for any of these fights is to throw everything I have at them and try and not get hit too much.
On another note: I don’t appreciate having content in a game that I might not be able to complete due to straight up skill. If this was the real life and I hadn’t paid for this game, I’d just say “Oh well… guess I’m just not good enough to do that” but as I have paid for this product, it is a giant slap in the face when the developer says “l2p nub”. There is no content in this game that can prepare you for their absurd dungeon runs and even the first dungeon you do is stupid hard with no learning aspect except beating your head against the enemies until they die.
If you are getting 1 hit killed by bosses in dungeons, you are doing it wrong. Which means it is challenging, not hard, as the rest of us don’t die in 1 hit.
This is what I’m saying. Basically, people are just doing it wrong and they need to learn how to play instead of QQing. Explorable dungeons aren’t the only thing available to do in the game. Not even by a stretch. You can still 100% all the maps, PvP, WvWvW, complete meta events, so on and so forth. It’s not required to do explorable dungeons.
99% of the time, those 1 shot abilities are easy to avoid, reflect, dodge, block or revive. So, make it part of your tactics to deal with it.
I do say that the game could really benefit from some pubs being in closer contact with the dev team, to report exploits as such. I myself have been sending bug reports for the CM exploits for example, but I’m willing to bet 99% of the people are either to lazy, ignorant of the fact that it is an exploit, or selfish to report it. Thats why you get some testers!
It’s come to my attention that perhaps this bug is because of pre patch runs done this day before the patch, that the penalty applying then somehow was translated to today.
Could be, but I haven’t run CoF (Magg path) since Sunday afternoon. I ran it today for the first time and only received 45 tokens. It took us under 30 minutes to complete the dungeon (food buffs were still up). The 2nd attempt took us over 45 minutes, and I was rewarded with 10 tokens.
I ran CM myself and didn’t get the proper tokens for AC. I’m thinking this might not be it though, as I’ve heard of people that haven’t even done a single dungeon in a week getting this problem.

Our runs were atleast about 40 minutes apart (finish time), with the first run (The second of the day counting the story mode CM I did around 2am) netting me 45. The second one netting me 30 while the entirety of the rest of my party got 60 on both. So no speed clears, first time on every route, pretty much first run of the day too.
Why so carebear? Go back to wow if you want to faceroll dungeons..
How the hell is CM undoable for most parties? That’s probably on my top 3 easiest dungeons..I love people assuming everyone played or likes wow.
So shut the kitten up, open your eyes, and read a whole forum complaining about CoF/Arah (ones I personally tried); about CM is what I’ve heard from guildies/friends, didn’t run it.
And a whole forum who apparently need to get the holy trinity out of their brains because this Arah is perfectly possible with ANY setup, given you don’t take triples of a single profession and balance out your trait distribution. If I’ve done it, you can sure as hell bet yourkitten on it that anyone else can do it.
COF is impossible to do with this moment. Protecting Magg while he is applying the bomb is impossible to do. Suicide attempts doesn’t work, and killing the mobs is downright impossible.
I’ll have to try this when the rewards are fixed, because getting 2 tokens per clear is kind of useless to me. But I doubt it’s impossible, given you take the right abilities with you.
Well 1st CoF path, you need a specific group set-up, not what we ‘ve been promised at this game. We ’ve tried with full flame legion dmg set-up, and still our dmg wasnt close to enough to kill the last boss. 2nd path, took us about 10-20s repairs each to protect magg while planting explosives. Couldn’t find the courage to try the 3rd after 4hours of fail, trying everything possible in 1st path.
I’ll try it for the sake of arguement.

I love that you have to move to close a hole. Makes perfect sense. Stabbing and slashing the same area won’t fill it with sand.
My group clears each route in about 30 minutes.. We pretty much do every dungeon on every route once a day already. With the new rewards, this is a joyous occasion for us.
Like mentioned, you either stand in the middle of the aoe to dodge all damage, or you evade after 1.5 second of red circleness if you have the endurance. This boss is actually the most fun and easy thing about the dungeon.

Team up with people you befriended from succesful earlier runs. I actually made a guild for people I enjoyed running with, because my friendlist became so full! Running with randoms is at your own risk I guess.
Oh hey more QQ about things you just have to get used to to run without error. Good luck and may tactical insight be with you.
I have this exact same problem. I got 45 on my first run, and 30 on my second, while my entire party got 60. Feels bad to be missing out on 45 tokens this way!
