[Suggestion] Remove time-gated crafting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Inoki.6048

Inoki.6048

I get the whole idea of planning ahead, but think of those who have limited time to access the game for various reasons and in those cases it can prove very difficult to get a simple armour with celestial stats e.g. for weeks, maybe months, depending how often those folks can log.

Then there are a lot of people who don’t plan ahead because they treat the game like a game – they are busy to plan other things, not keeping excel sheets for mats – not everyone is willing to go there and be “hardcore” and they never will because they don’t want to be. I keep notes for groceries and important stuff, gaming is leisure. I don’t know what will I need in the near future, I don’t know whether I’ll decide to play an Elementalist e.g. and what armour it should be wearing, weapons, trinkets…; will I need another celestial armour in the future, since even meta changes, everything changes.

Do you get the point now? Nobody can tell the future.

In such scenarios ANet are counting on people to buy gems / convert to gold / buy mats / real money involved since they don’t have the time to grind. But even that is pointless in my example.

A gentle reminder, that a game should be fun, not a second job, which is often a problem with MMOs, everyone knows that, but GW2 was promoted from the beginning as a casual MMO, catering to those folks with limited time to game, remember?

Now, I’m not suggesting to add more stuff to the gem store and make the game P2W. I’m simply hinting to the fact, that there are things, simple crafting items that are time-gated and it doesn’t make any sense for them to be.

And the nonsense about “it would ruin the economy”… bull-sized grapes it would…

I don’t think I’ve ever met with this pattern in any other game where you have to wait to craft something just because there’s a timer. Then again I know I haven’t played that many MMOs, so maybe I’m wrong. Usually it was because one needed a specific amount of mats to proceed, which is the natural order of doing things.

It’s like they are giving us a choice – either this, or they put us to gather triple the amount of mats, which would be the same as in any other MMO turning this one into a mundane grind.

My point being, irc the game was supposed to be a unique casual MMO with as few grinding involved as possible, which is why many liked it for from the start. Then there was HoT… and everyone knows the story since then.

To conclude, it would be nice of them to reconsider what does make somewhat sense to be gated, but take into account the stuff (like this), that makes little to no sense.

I’ve been meaning to propose this for a long time, particularly now that I’m about to craft my second celestial armour and to think that I again have to wait days/weeks to be able to convert quartz crystals into a charged crystal is an unnecessary drag.

Anybody feeling the same way? If I have the ingredients now, why should I wait to get my armour? What’s the point?

It’s just stretching the process unnecessarily.

Thus I vote to have this completely removed and be able to craft e.g. celestial the same way as any other = you have the ingredients, you craft now, not in days, weeks, a month.

That’s because most, if not all of NC’s games, are plagued by bots, scripts, RMTs and cheats and they actually bring in more revenue because by paradox those who are responsible for the game’s demise are the ones to sustain it.

I would want it to be like with Zenith and other special skins from the large achievement chests, or like with outfits – applicable any time anywhere, on any character without any transmutation charges, since we already paid for them.

The purpose of EOTM, other than farming karma, somehow eludes me. Everyone keeps complaining about this game mode, so why is it even there, why not remove it all together if everyone dislikes it, or idk.

Someone enlighten me.

I spent a great deal of time there since it’s more casual I guess except for when some elitists arrive trying to make a career there yelling at people when they do smth wrong and that’s when I politely remind them to keep it cool…

Back on topic, I don’t get what would you want to claim there. It’s a smaller map with fewer objectives. It would need an expansion. imo it’s pointless. It would mean creating more mess.

No. I would say fix WvW, focus on WvW so it’s more enjoyable. These polls and everything…… they’ve proven useless. I think what WvW needs is people who know what they are doing.

A few things that come into mind atm. could resolve some issues:

- offering server transfers to entire guilds once in a while free of charge to prevent abuse
- but mainly, coding a proper algorithm to match people based on active (online) numbers
- eliminate the possibility to constantly hop from server to server, sort of you transfer now, you cannot for at least 3 months, or even more. sounds insane? sometimes you have to take drastic measures if you want to achieve something.

This could go on the whole day, just as fights with some of these ppl that last at least half an hour with all that condi “removal”.

I recall this case from 2 days ago in EOTM – fought a warrior again that hardly did weapon swap, mostly went GS, didn’t use signets at all and I watched his bar – among the hero banners and power foods there wasn’t resistance popping yet condis totally ineffective, so what would you make of that… his health constantly full. Am tired of this kitten.

While some believe only their own versions of things I believe everything can be bypassed.

Lately I learned to simply withdraw from these kinds of “fights” because it’s not interesting or fun to fight someone for half an hour, round after round the same – you drop condis, he cleanses, “fight” goes on…

I honestly can’t tell if you two are trolling or not.

In case you’re not here’s a little reading for you.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Resistance

Irrelevant post, because this is not about Resistance. Everyone knows about it. I’m talking about the opponents I faced did NOT have resistance on them. You can’t miss the green glow when all you do is stare at your opponent watching their every move in combat, so you should read before you troll. I even specifically mentioned I’m aware of Warrior Stances (one of which gives resistance for about 10s).

What saerni mentioned about extreme minus condi durations, from what I quickly researched via builds, runes with food can give you up to -45% condi duration, not more afaik. Guys I’m talking about – you hit them with scepter / staff, condi ticks, it’s gone, ticks again, gone, you hit them with everything you got, all removed instantly – no stances used and you too use runes / food to prolong condi duration, damage etc., so this is really sort of suspicious, when no matter what you do nothing works. Your build becomes obsolete the moment you realize the power you wield has no effect. Dropping at least 3 offensive condis on your opponent with more than 2.2k condi power should at least scratch them imo. (I am talking about some of the deadliest conditions – Torment, Confusion – heck, these two are overkill yet to a warrior they seem like a pillow fight). Well it does not. You deal 0 dmg so while some complain how strong condis are, either they became terribly easy to remove or there’s a new “method” out there.

It’s hard to tell because some classes, if you build for it, can be completely immune to conditions.

It is always possible someone figured out how to hack the system…but I’d start with the assumption that they built themselves to counter conditions. Was this 1v1?

most of the times yer, 1v1. But with every single hit in that very instance the condi is gone? Hard to believe. I know they have stances but this was instant removal, every single time, the condi didn’t even tick once properly. they were bulletproof.

Hackers?

Correct me if I’m wrong, I know some classes have good condi cleanse, but some people are just IMMUNE to condi. Literally every cast you make is cleansed instantly on each tick. Now, I don’t know whether I’m doing something wrong, or if a third party tool is involved, but sometimes I think running condi is completely futile.

I ran into several such folks in WvW with my Mesmer and literally every hit (torment, confusion) was cleansed instantly on warrior classes mostly. These folks didn’t lose health at all with my condi values above 2.2k.

Can someone explain? Or there is nothing to explain and they are probably using something.

Note: what I’m talking about is landing a condition and watching it immediately go away. With every hit.

Nice input Edgar, only I was thinking of smth like a gun-like kit, similar to the Elixir gun, but this would be some sort of frost beam or laser – or ray of frost if you will – and other of its skills could be inspired by those of the flamethrower, only different, like freeze the ground, or shoot a giant, concentrated frost ball that would explode and shoot frozen shrapnels that could bleed targets around, create an impassable wall of frost, or trap a target inside of a small Iglu (?) (not sure how Eskimo’s houses are called )…

Speaking of explosions, we already have the mortar, that shoots a chilling shell, but I consider it somewhat lacking.

Off-topic: I main condi-Engi and fighting against multiple DH/Guards with constant block/reflect/cleanse is a pain. They are beatable, but it’s often a never-ending story. It’s like the rest got a fraction of everything and one class is an AIO.

With the addition of the latest chapter it hit me while playing – why not give the engi some sort of chill gun kit or something. Doesn’t have to do damage at all, or if, then some DOT would be nice, like DOT Bleed, or actually Burn, but what’s more important would be the fact that one could freeze solid their opponent for a few seconds. Sounds tactical, given what some other classes have.

Off-topic: Seems to me someone at ANet favours guards far too much describing them as well-balanced, while I dare to disagree. (remembers block, block… block? heal, cleanse, block, block… knock knock anyone?)

Sure you do. We just talked about in your other thread.

Nobody ever authorised you to speak on other’s behalf. Who are you to judge what they are or are not aware of.

When I say I am not aware of that I am not. Just because I mention Deso and play Deso I have to be aware of everything that happens / has happened in the past on Deso, right?

I have a life, I don’t keep track of every foot that ever stepped into the arena, or how one server was underpopulated in the past. If it happened, bad for them, they should have spoken up. I know we are not the only ones who’re left solo. I am speaking up because I believe this is not right.

That’s not complaining, that’s stating a fact. Or would you prefer if people just keep their mouth shut, leave it be and don’t enjoy the game at all. To some it matters, I’m one of those people. If nobody brought that up before, not really my issue, but not being able to enjoy an aspect of the game for more than a month is not something anybody paid for.

Having gone through the thread of the world linking this was no mere coincidence or a bug, but they intentionally screwed certain servers up. So now it should be OK for us to be constantly outnumbered for however long.

If they wanted to bring more people into WvW this was the worst way they could have thought of, because people are more disconnecting than connecting from what I observed, disgruntled from being outnumbered.

There is too much healing in this game

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Inoki.6048

Inoki.6048

What I think could be done is to reduce the recovery and elusive (spam block/invul) abilities of all classes to make healing classes more viable since they have been introduced to the game, e.g. Druid’s staff heal (1st ability) could heal a lot more than just 160 points on average with a full classic Cleric build and healing above 1.4k. 160 – 200 points per hit won’t save anyone from dying.

The same with the Engineers Med Kit. That’s obviously a joke, right, and I haven’t seen anyone in the game ever use it.

I don’t see the point of playing a healing build since most classes can very easily sustain themselves. Some literally, like others already described, from 0 – full health in seconds, seen this mostly on Revenants and Elementalists – ridiculously strong heals.

Druids should be able to target allies with their healing abilities, not just enemies so allies get healed in the crossfire. Their targeted heals are absurd since most people move like crazed monkeys during a fight. Healing abilities should be auto-target, not manual ground-targeted.

It is evident, that some classes have greater advantages compared to others mainly after HoT was introduced, but even before and to mention every single example of imbalance is redundant since smart people figure out things for themselves.

It’s true that the imbalance is very strong. Speaking of Druids/Rangers, Guards and Warriors for instance make better archers than Rangers ever have even on lower range. When I compare their abilities with those of the Ranger the Ranger is deplorable.

Ranger and Thief classes should be equally lethal with the difference of one specialising on distance and one on melee range. Every game I played archers, mages and thieves were always amongst the most respected. Here you see a Ranger and think “oh what an easy PK point”. They’re laughable even with Lead the Wind enabled because their arrows can easily be eluded.

Their damage and the damage of their pets is ridiculously low compared to what it could be (a full zerk glass build hits for up to 3k per hit tops/average, but mostly around 2k depending on armour of the opponent and they have no access to any lethal strikes of any kind, like being able to hit the opponent into a vital spot to take out at least half of their HP instantly ignoring defence completely) but some would argue that their damage has been nerfed due to the fact that they employ pets in combat, but those pets and their AI are a fail; they can’t even be sent to engage targets on longer distances so the Ranger remains far, which is his primary defence and the further they are the more damage they deal, not to mention one doesn’t even have full control over the pet to stow it when needed and the CD on pet switching… just ridiculous.

I have very mixed feelings about a lot of aspects and mechanics of this game. Too much to mention, hence I picked the Ranger that I played but found pointless to play.

Thief needs work- possible suggestions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Inoki.6048

Inoki.6048

All of what you suggested is obsolete and would make the thief even more powerful than it already is!

Before you suggest anything take a step back and try to see everything from the bigger picture and employ a little bit of thinking.

The staff was never meant (nor is it in real life) to be a weapon for fast kill. In most cases knocking out your opponent involves a series of moves. It is not a sharp weapon, and usually it’s larger than a knife, thus not so agile (sacrificing manoeuvrability) as with a knife which is small, light and very sharp – this is all common sense! You don’t get to do things with a staff the same way you do with a knife. That is why you have different martial arts that involve handling of different weapon types, because you don’t handle a knife the same way you handle a staff, blunt, or sword.

Passive stealth? Are you completely out of your mind? Don’t you have enough stealth already? You seem to me like another one of those who just 1) don’t know when to have enough, 2) don’t know how to play the class.

Lastly, Thief is definitely NOT one of those classes that need manoeuvrability improved. They are very agile, move the fastest of all, move in the shadows, they are perfect in this regard. If you fail it’s your own doing, not the character’s. Learn to play it and you won’t be seen complaining on the forums.

A reasonable player would actually suggest nerfing to the thief because they would see it’s already far too strong. A strong player wants challenge, not more power than they already have. It’s achieving more with less.

You need to give thiefs more vitality.

@OP: stop crying. Thieves are overpowered as they are. A good thief can counter any situation and kill in almost one hit. Not to mention they are constantly invisible and teleport better than mages.

If you want more vitality then I want their blink/shadow step completely removed and stealth greatly nerfed.

The low vitality and relatively fragile nature are signs that you need to learn manoeuvrability to be very fluid on the battlefield. If you want something more resilient go with a Warrior or a Guardian like most people here. Those classes, especially the guard, are far too strong.

Complaining like you do only signals one thing – you don’t know how to play the thief.

Some classes use more profession skills (Engi e.g.) and some less (Thief, Necro). Some may like to use different key bindings for each character they play.

The suggestion would be to implement a feature that would allow key bindings to be saved and loaded depending on which character is being played in form of a simple drop down menu in settings, or directly saved with a character.

This reddit post got me thinking........
