Profanity/hateful speech reaching new peaks

There is a filter for a reason. Use it. While I’m not condoning vulgar language, it will come up. Expecially in pvp. Swinging the ban hammer for language will get a lot of people banned, myself included, very fast.

And whose fault will that be?

Block and report.

Good luck.

What he said. Block, and if you think it’s THAT bad report, and set your filter if you can’t handle some words. My guild would be perma-banned if Anet was as harsh as you want them to be lol…

That button seems to be out of order. I have never heard of a single instance when someone got punished for their behaviour.

If people don’t know how to behave, then it’s time for them to learn. Some are old enough to know what it means to keep their frustration at bay.

Or is this game only for bullies without jobs?

People being abusive in games isn’t something new, but should be a thing of the past. The time when ANet started to pay more attention to this issue was yesterday. The level of abusive behaviour in the game has reached greater magnitudes as I’ve witnessed in the last few days, especially in PVP, obviously because people think they can get away with whatever vulgar attitude.

As a paying customer I did not pay for a hostile (in-game) environment, often crowded with immature individuals.

While there is a profanity filter option in settings, many have it disabled simply because they don’t mind the occasional f* words, but the level of cussing some people demonstrate is getting out of control and requires heavy moderation.

What I propose:

1st violation: written warning
2nd violation: complete suspension of the account (based on proof)

Harsh? Not compared to how some treat others. It’s time to teach people some manners, and what better way than having them pay for their behaviour.

Accuracy sigils

Inoki.6048

Currently playing an Engineer and was thinking of boosting my condition damage with the help of the sigil (since I use the trait that grants condition damage based on precision). Naturally when it did that I expected to see the value of precision go up as well (makes sense), but it doesn’t, so the sigil increases crit. chance but not precision (the attribute directly connected to it), which doesn’t make any sense.

By definition, the 7% I just added to critical chance converts to 128.3 points of precision on my current level = 137 points should go to condition damage after basic conversion.

Or, does ANet try to tell us, that precision and critical hit chance aren’t the same? afaik when you increase precision your critical hit chance goes up, so why not the other way around?

The Healing Mist tool belt skill for the Elixer Gun will only remove a Condition if you have the Alchemical Tinctures trait selected.

Never used that.

Must’ve been a bug I didn’t even know about, but I know I could remove conditions with that ability.

The trait in the Inventions line called Cleansing Synergy will remove a condition when a healing skill is used. Maybe you don’t have this trait active?

That’s it! I use it, but when I use Healing Mist conditions aren’t removed!

they introduced us to an elite specialization that were supposed to offer an alternative usefulness than that we already had.

In this, they have failed dramatically.

The condition engineer is in fact the only usefulness we have in PvE for the time being, and that in itself is a depressing fact. Further on, the realization that being a scrapper AND a condition engineer just doesn’t work at all, makes it all so much worse.

Much like adding Druid to the Ranger = 0 synergy with the rest of the trait lines. I made a choice, I quit playing the Druid all together.

I don’t listen to other people saying what I should use, ever. I observe and learn that way, but do not copy. If you were meant to be like everyone else you would not have been given the power of thought, because to be like everyone else takes no thought at all.

I too play it because of its flexibility (a kit for every situation). I hardly use anything else but that’s because I don’t find anything else useful (not saying that it isn’t) mainly because of the terrible cool down system I could age on, and also because I’m used to mechanics of other games, where I don’t need to wait half a minute on average for a spell to become usable again.

Fast-paced gaming. ANet forces variety upon its players while their desired spell is being recharged. In reality, you should be able to use what you want, whenever you want, or as quick as you want (this begs the question: won’t a class be overpowered that way? Won’t the game suffer from the same as other games? Read on…)

There used to be masteries for that too (not in this game though). You might think I’d like to see the game turned into a fast-paced Korean Lineage 2 or smth clone. Yes and no, because this is MMORPG, mainly RPG, so if you switch places with your character having its powers you’d sometimes want to just spam one skill on your opponent until they are dead.

What I dislike about the game in general, and also when playing Engi, is the cool down. That’s why I use kits, so I can quickly switch and use something else until what I need again cools down. (They wanted to impose way too much “strategy”, made it only boring on many occasions.)

I consider it the most versatile class of all, adaptable to virtually any situation and if played right, coming out of every fight as a winner. It has something to offer to anyone, but even though one may play it in many various ways, it still has one main course outlined for it, and that’s condition damage.

They dont nerf only 2 hits, also nerf the damage!

And what do you expect now? For the Beastmaster trait to be obsolete?

It’s common sense, that a pet does more damage with that trait line on rather than off, that’s the way things should work.

If you don’t like it quit, but don’t ever expect it to be otherwise than designed.

Not sure what you’re on about, but they meant the base damage had been reduced.

More than anything was my impression from the screenshot the OP posted as if he was generally dissatisfied about the overall damage without the trait, which is normal.

I would never expect a pet do more damage without the trait as with it, that’s logic.

As far as the overall damage reduction, as I wrote in another post, I too think there was a huge gap between other pets and the Smokescale, rendering them obsolete. I thought it’s so powerful I almost felt sorry for my opponents, so I am not against the nerf.

A game should be fun and challenging a bit, I don’t want to complete every battle with my eyes closed. For that I don’t need to turn on my computer.

If you’re with a group and you attack to regain AF and the mob aggroes you it seems you do more damage than your comrades, which is a tad sad given that you might be in a party with several warriors

Also, how other than by attacking do you exactly expect to regain AF? Thin air?

On the other hand, I still think, that if they wanted to make a proper healer they should’ve modded the guardian to full healer instead. It would, of course, be a force to be reckoned with, but that’s how I see it, because now they added a Ranger trait that doesn’t synergize with the rest at all. I have to wear two armours and two sets of weapons and swap between them incl. traits, something I’d describe as an unholy mess.

But I agree with everything said about targeted healing.

Hello there, " Synmortalis" is based on Desolation, but with the Megaserver – everything is connected besides WvW.

It’s a newly created guild with several veteran players and we do all aspects of the game, so you’ll be sure to find something to do if you choose to! We are mostly GMT but we are online a lot so I don’t think it will be an issue.

We’ve also just got our guildhall unlocked in the Lost Precipice – so yeah if you want any more information feel free to message me here or ingame at: Alex.8230

But goodluck in-game regardless! <3

Hello and thank you so much for the info!

Unfortunately someone was faster and we got our invite.

Best of luck to you as well, we might bump into each other in-game somehow!

They could at least put a warning before enabling the tag that would say smth like the following:

The mentor tag is offered mainly to experienced players in order to help others navigate through the world of Tyria. It is strongly advised that you enable it only if you concur that you have:

  • 100% map completion.
  • Revealed all areas.
  • Completed all puzzles and mini-dungeons.
  • Completed story and all paths of any dungeon entered from that area.
  • Done all diving goggles.
  • Defeated all world bosses and meta-events with a related achievement in that area.

Guess I couldn’t be a mentor then in spite of playing since beta. Never finished the personal story.

I wonder why you also didn’t put in similar requirements for using a commander tag? All that requires from you right now is to whip out your wallet. Surely they should have to answer leadership questions first before tagging up.

Ok, let’s just put it, that only those who can cross-check at least 3 – 4 points from that list should even consider the mentor tag. Common sense.

You don’t have to take everything literally you know that.

Naw. I’ll just whip out my wallet. Buy a commander tag and gain everyone’s immediate unquestioning acceptance to my right to tag up.

Really, the way people are acting about this is strange, to say the least. No one questions the right for a person to wear a tag that you buy but they question a tag that you gain through gameplay.

A small whiff of hypocrisy is floating up from this thead.

While you mention it, in this regard I agree and think the Mentor tag is better – I don’t see why anybody should spend so much gold for a tag that alone doesn’t guarantee the person wearing it is reliable.

It all comes down to responsibility, which is not the strongest trait of many.

Anywhere a theif can teleport with their shortbow, you can also teleport to with any other blink like ability. You just have to know where those spots are and it depends on where your standing

Doesn’t apply to every case. Additionally, the amount of blinks a thief has compared to a Mesmer is absurd. Who’s the (real) mage in this case?

At some point game designers started to implement teleportation, aka. shadowstepping for assassin professions and they became the new hit, the new mages, while a more acceptable approach would be just to give them access in various ways to stealth and just greatly improve their agility – which brings it also closer to reality.

Anyway, my point was, that path finding (AI navigation) shouldn’t be what Mesmer’s teleport is based on simply because it breaks it = unless there is a valid walking path to your destination you cannot teleport, which is absurd, because a teleport – even in most films – allows you to shift at least where you can see (in most cases even where you cannot, good examples are Xmen, Star Trek, you name it), so if you’re standing on the edge of a cliff and you can see another one within a reasonable distance you should be able to move there.

I agree with everything the OP said. With GW2 being free to download and play it’s headed down the F2P model, which ruins every game. No surprise really, ANet has close ties to NCsoft, who are behind the fall of great titles like Lineage 2, which I played for 7 long years.

With F2P you have to pay for everything in the game. Games become infested with bots (RMT) and hackers and it all goes straight down to hell.

To think of it, they made it free to download and play, so we paid the same price as before for 3 maps, 5 pets, a few armours/weapons and one additional story.

Am I the only one who thinks this is wrong?

It’s not (just) about jumping puzzles. Thieves (at least from what I recall from before, and maybe it’s still valid) were able to blink in certain PVP maps from the ground to the roof of a building, or basically shadowstep from lower ground to higher ground, which I believe shouldn’t be possible, especially with greatly elevated areas, whereas a Mesmer cannot do what Thieves can with their shortbow e.g. YouTube contains numerous proofs to the claims.

By definition, a teleport should do exactly the opposite of the mentioned – it should be able to take you where you cannot walk. That’s common sense.

Mesmer teleport...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Inoki.6048

Ok, I’m gonna go a bit on a rant here because of the absurdly idiotic teleportation ability the mesmer has and the fact that it cannot be used to teleport when you need to get let’s say from one ledge to another just because there’s a gap, while comparing with the Thief, who is not even a magician but has much more blink abilities than a magician who, by definition, shouldn’t have any issues whatsoever with teleportation, especially one specializing in illusions/mind control.

If they thought that teleportation would render jumping puzzles obsolete than why bother adding it to the game. This way one can teleport from point A to point B but cannot use the ability where it could be particularly useful and its core functionality – overcoming any gaps with the power of the mind.

Just my few cents to the incredibly “creative” design teams behind the characters. Thumbs down.

You really can’t make a decision like this without kittening off somebody

The game offers a lot of variations through combos and people love those. Having control over the smoke cloud gives it a sense of more strategical thinking, especially for hardcore tacticians and perfectionists.

imo it is only a matter of time before they make the switch. One good enough reason for that is the fact people started bringing it up more and more and that signals, that something isn’t right.

When you think of it, having a tactical advantage with a well-executed smoke field makes the game a lot more interesting than another dull fast kill ability. Dull, because let’s be honest, it’s just a series of slashes to take down an enemy quick, nothing fancy, and personally – while at one hand I enjoy how fast my enemy goes down – on the other I actually feel sorry for them.

In other words, it’s way too easy to be fun.

What the pvp forums want, they get.

The last week has been hard proof of that.

I understand this, because if you run a game competitively with tournaments for prizes PVP has to be balanced, or close to it. They knew, that if they want to go down that road they will have to listen to players (more).

yeah ok, but usually nerfs are demanded by very casual players…so, shouldn’t they listen to people that reasonably discuss this or that skill or trait, instead that a bunch of people scraming “nerf this/that, it’s tooooooooooooo op!!!!!”

That’s what I meant by saying “sometimes it boggles the mind how decisions are made”. That being said, we may say what we believe to be wrong, but it’s up to them if they want to listen, thus if we want to persuade them to make right choices we have to push by means of constructive, polite and factual criticism and maybe we get to see stuff implemented.

I agree with you, that listening to immature comments makes them look bad for considering nonsense, but that’s how it sadly works sometimes.

We both along with many others may agree on the same thing, but who do you think represents the majority in the world?

Their task is to create something that is fun, but also balanced. They’d want to distance themselves from the community so that the passion of the players doesn’t influence their design decisions. It can be easy to give a class too much because it would be cool.

+1
While I’m not a fan of the word “impossible” it’s definitely not possible to indulge everyone.

I also agree with the OP. Honestly, not sure what to think of the whole matter, but what can you do.

There’s a lot of things that can always be improved, not just for Rangers. Fixes are always needed everywhere and as they say “God works in mysterious ways” (even though I’m no believer this fits) I am inclined to compare it to devs.

Sometimes it boggles the mind why some decisions have been made over others, but on the other hand I’m glad they listen to what we say to some extent (and I hope nothing’s going to change about that, although I have reasons to believe even that depends heavily on us).

Constructive criticism is the key and as long as we keep it in perspective we might achieve good results. I believe, that if we provide the right “why” and “how” they would listen. I mean, why trying to prove you’re almighty when you’re not and there are people with a point, so why not listen?

I have to say I knew games where developers just took one’s money. I really hope it won’t become the same here.

Stealth doesn’t need to last forever to be useful. Stealth + Super Speed for even 2sec will give you positioning and hide any obnoxious tells. The runeset will still be strong for people using just 2 traps.

Let’s be honest, 3 sec. were already low, I don’t see the need for a nerf there. I do see, however, the need to cripple thieves’ perma stealth abilities. Nobody seems to be bothered with that from what can be seen.

Finding balance is what I suggest, not to cripple them either.

I think it’s fine. Gives people something to shoot for. It reminds me of the UW spider. Also, I completed Dragon Stand the other night when I fell into a guild run map and I can see the event being completed on a regular basis soon enough.

It’s a nice special reward for rangers I think.

Saying it gives people something “to shoot for” assumes we all love this kind of content and will enjoy “shooting” for it.

A bit like saying that everyone should shoot to be a top footballer.

Not everyone even wants to be a footballer, let alone a top one.

At the end of the day, pets are Ranger’s class mechanic, so gating them behind these type of hurdles is not OK.

If they wanted to put a special, rare, rainbow tiger behind a limited time, event success related, jumping puzzle nightmare, then that would be different, I guess.

Although, I still wouldn’t recommend it, as people who don’t enjoy that kind of stuff would still be frustrated.

But, this is just a regular tiger and the only one available, so it should be available fairly easily.

Either that, or the pet mechanic should be usable on any other pet, at the very least.

If these pets are in hard to get to places fine , but locked behind meta events means any amount of mastery training becomes a tad pointless as these masteries could be used to access Hard to get to locations where these pets could be .

so instead of waiting for the meta events , you could Work on a few masteries and get to that hard location and find the pet in the players own time as not everyone has time to wait around for meta events to be finished.

Couldn’t agree more.

It’s not just the wyvern, a lot of planning for this game causes major headaches and is utterly pointless, like certain obstacles in order to reach something.

Having played my share of other MMOs, I find this entire discussion to be surreal. I can’t believe how spoiled the average gamer is these days! There’s no subscription fee for this game, so how is $50 an unfair price after they’ve supported a game with no mandated additional fees beyond the initial purchase price for three years? But you’re not happy that new players are getting a good deal even though that can only be a good thing for the continued health of the game? The whole train of thought is just unbelievable to me …

ArenaNet doesn’t owe existing players a darn thing! You bought the game, you got to play it up until now, but now it’s time to pay up again. End of story. Anyone who doesn’t like it can move on to something else. There are plenty of other games out there.

You are missing the whole point of those comments you are complaining about. I myself find myself in a difficult financial situation like those people “complaining” and to me 45€ for the standard version is a huge expense.

In my country unemployment benefit is 65€ on average, so think before you speak. (And do not ask, I will not disclose the details of my origin.)

A paid upgrade is fine, an expensive upgrade not so, it’s like paying for the game all over again and that is a bit too much to ask for, yes.

If the upgrade cost around 10€ I would be fine with it, because ANet would still earn a load of money from all the customers they have (several hundreds of thousands I presume). At this point it’s only about who is insatiable.

Game doesn't launch

I am able to launch the launcher, update, log in, but when I hit the play button the game doesn’t start. I tried this now for about 6 times. The same problem for another computer in our household.

The OSes are Win 8.1 x64 and Win 7 x64, I tried looking into running processes, nothing, the game stops running after launch.

Is anyone experiencing the same?

The game ran fine about 3 – 4 hours ago.

Ranger Pets Bugged [merged]

Just checked. Still broked.

You know, if it’s that big of an issue just give us perma-stow, then it’ll be a lot less of an issue

About that, I too don’t see why we shouldn’t be able to stow pets until we want them to be at our side.

I see no reason why having a pet should be mandatory.

No such foolish thing should ever happen. Of course rapid fire hits through stealth, because stealthed or not you are physically still in that position, so you naturally get hit.

Superior Rune of the Ranger and Mesmer

Do you even understand the difference between a companion and a minion? No, clones are no such things, neither are phantasms and definitely not summoned minions.

I don’t. Can you elaborate?

To what extent this would be bugged I’m unsure, but technically, if a Mesmer or a Necromancer could get the bonus for every active summon, let’s say 6*7% = we have a problem here, and a major one.

It’s clearly a problem of reading comprehension. Nowhere does it state “per each companion”.

If it could be bugged it could be on any level. While Rangers can only have one pet summoned other classes can use multiple pets, and that’s why technically, regarding the description, since initially it is meant in singular “an active companion”, with other classes this can have more severe consequences.

Just taking into consideration all possibilities.

i have a funny story for you darksyze

along side my ranger, i also play many other classes. like you, one of my favorite classes to play is my guardian(even after the stability nerf). my guardian is mainly used as a frontliner in wvw, and as such, i use a build that compliments this style of play – an AH shout build, gs/staff or ham/staff. i use soldier gear with hoelbrak runes, -condi food, and power utility.

on this guardian that is, by no means, built for damage – i can completely shut down any ranger(or, well, almost any class in the game actually) without even moving. yes, i have successfully beat rangers 1v1 without moving. if i make an effort to actively attack them, i can close the gap between me and them in 3 seconds, suffering no damage, and can kill them before they can even react.

guardian is, by no small margin, one of the absolutely strongest classes in wvw. against a ranger? guardian is a hard counter.

i implore that you study up on how to play before continuing your crusade against rangers

…and we are still talking about nerfing Rangers? Ok…

If he can do what he claims he can do (not sure what players he faced, but I get the idea), then the OP’s suggestion landed against the wrong class. Just sayin’…

They no longer work. The 7% damage bonus fails to apply now with clones/illusions up…

Never should have worked and people caught abusing it should be dealt with.

Is there a game where people don’t cheat somehow or get a proper punishment for doing so?

How is it an abuse or cheat?

(6): +7% damage while you have an active companion.

Mesmer illusions are mechanically ‘companions’ just as much as any other summoned ally (minions, golems, etc). The only difference is that ranger pets never despawn, even if dead (which is arguably a broken mechanic compared to other professions, which have no comparable advantage).

Do you even understand the difference between a companion and a minion? No, clones are no such things, neither are phantasms and definitely not summoned minions.

To what extent this would be bugged I’m unsure, but technically, if a Mesmer or a Necromancer could get the bonus for every active summon, let’s say 6*7% = we have a problem here, and a major one.

Ranger down state

This is not a bug. In reality a loyal pet would come to the rescue. I know, talking about reality here… but still, it’s not a bug, it’s designed that way. Take it that Rangers have an extra way of dealing with the downed state, just as the Lick Wounds ability for the pet to quickly help resurrect them.

Mesmers create clones, thieves go invisible, every class has something.

I hate when they place their marks far above where they can’t see, especially from down below.

Same with a guardian, I snipe at him from a rooftop and that phallus can still teleport to me high above. Ridiculous.

Anyway, nice manouvers.

DarkSyze you will achieve nothing.

Everything you have demonstrated exposes that you don’t understand how the game works at all. It means you don’t know how to play your class and, as a result of your frustration, want to shift the blame on everyone else.

Do yourself a favour and think about what you’re doing. Games like these aren’t designed for players to run them without thinking. If you can’t handle it, play something simpler.

It seems this game is not for you.
