Last night, my little brother shared me this “Wall of Hate” which he has accumulated over the years of diligent pugging. I’m not sure whether he would post the image himself at some points but I couldn’t resist

I want to add a bit of background information. This “little brother” I have always mentioned is a junior fellow countryman of mine who has helped me a great deal since my noobie days. He is a highly skilled player in all classes yet still a humble and avid student of the [Noob] mentoring program. In short, he is the kind of meta player with a casual experience. His LFG usually reads “80 experienced, DPS, meta or close to meta only”, which hilariously attracts all sorts of imaginable hostility. Plus, this guys is a bit of a tease with his explosive passive-aggressiveness. He never kicks anyone for being bad, but his speech may or may not have pushed them off the cliff

I want to dedicate this Wall of Hate to our dungeon community on this ThanksGiving occasion.

In my opinion, Precursor Crafting isn’t the same as the “Controversial Topics” in this list. I believe that 99% of player would support a way to obtain a precursor without the means of RNG or paying endlessly inflated price. However, the main ‘controversy’ is we are always in the dark about it. ANet only mentioned it once and never tells us how and when they plan to implement it. Everytime a thread is created, it only serves as a friendly (or passive-aggressive) reminder until everyone of us is tired of telling ourselves it is not gonna happen anytime soon. There is virtually no debate about that.

To OP: I think we have another controversial topic regarding Gemstore Release, on:
i. Whether new armor and weapon skins should be released in game instead of in gemstore or behind the BL key purchase. Or Pay-To-Look-Good.
ii. Gem store becomes the game focus.
iii. Outfit should be made of separate armor pieces.
iv. Selling gambling tickets for gems.
v. Gemstore exclusives influence certain trade markets, weapons, mini, dye, etc.

And maybe some other things that I have missed.

Dear OP,
Can we add some topics regarding the LFG like

  • Dungeon Selling
  • Achievement Point Requirement

Also, I’m not too sure if Stacking vs. AOE cap has been already discussed.

On topic of kicking people at last boss, I have a story to share. Last night, I pugged with my little brother and we started with COE p2. As always, me feeling fine for whatever and my bro wanted a bit of security with “DPS only” LFG. There we had two ele (one being my bro), two warriors and me as guard. Things started to go awry when we all went down at the second Subject Alpha except for my bro and a warrior. Then I notice that the war was using mace and shield !!! As Subject Alpha was killed, the warrior started bla-blaing non stop about his tanking nomad build has saved the day while the zerker ele was down (and self-rally) non-stop. Well, we all know who scored the kill so we didn’t bother bursting his bubble. Out of frustration, my brother asked in an aggressive tone why the warrior joined us a dps only group. This warrior promptly told my bro to shut up because his ele was noob and not giving him 25 stacks of might. Good old bickering, I guess. The best part is at the Husk boss where this warrior fought with the two ele over who controls the golem. Then he started kicking the other ele not my brother. We waited for him to withdraw the initiation, but nope, no explanation, nothing. So we whooped his annoying kitten out. The other ele went boohoo whiteknight on us for kicking Mr.Tanky. Even though I tried to explain to him that I was tolerating Mr. Tanky’s fraudulent activity, I wasn’t happy with him kicking people in my group so he was booted to protect the ele, Mr. Ele insisted on painting me and my brother as filthy elitists. As soon as I told him he could leave if he wasn’t happy, he took off right away. The irony is, as soon as thry are gone the rest of party three-manned Subject Alpha just fine even faster than with a full group.

Tl; dr: pug is weird. Not only they disrespect your lfg, do they gloat and disrespect the other members of the group. What is new is they take it personal if someone gets kicked because that person wanted to kick themselves.

Nat got over 40, Rumpo got over 40 as well. Nine is at 75+ and counting. Overall all of our members have gotten at least half a dozen each.

Even though I weirdly managed to pull out the hunter and the lover with 100g in the last two weeks, I remain at 11.500g loss.

Behavior in Dungeons

Iris Ng.9845

More bullying in the dungeon forums. I am going to report this one, in the hope that this is not actually wanted here.
And to the OP, as you can see here, bullying people in dungeons is something that seems to be in style with certain people. And just like bullying in real life, most others stay quiet and just hope they are not the one’s being bullied next. It is a real shame that this is acceptable behavior in our GW2 community now.

I will be the first step up and admit I was bullied in this forum. Irisng made me give her my lunch money or else she would fight me at 3pm at the flagpole. Out of fear and regard for personal safety I gave her the lunch money. Later in the cafeteria I was hungry, and I saw her drinking two chocolate milks. I cried inside.

Sorry, not sorry. It’s delicious.

Be proud. As you are qualified to be one of [SC]- the guild who has the best luck with precursors

During the last WvW season the guild i’m in got 13 or 14 precursors I was one of the lucky ones, some guy from JQ came up and handed me a Zap.

Oh Jerus, you jest. 13-14 is the number that Nat can single-handedly obtain in less than a season and I think he has no less than 40 by himself thus far. In fact, 8 or 9 were pulled from the forge by the guild in a single night, which prompts Swedish Sam to (temporarily) quit in _frustration_ (right?). The amount of luck accumulated in [SC] was so great that I could even fish out my Spark by leeching their guild mission.

They must have tempered their Fengshui or something.

Some think they are the kings of the dungeon forums and others rally around them to bully everyone into submission…
Besides, what you don’t realize is that ranged can be more rewarding than melee if the gameplay demands it. It is a pity that appearantly the gameplay in dungeons will never be adjusted again however.

As a casual player who does not speed run, please correct me if I am wrong but if you can pull a boss against a wall in less than a second you should still do it because ice bow and glyph of storms will have their area attacks concentrated to only half a circle, effectively increases the rng chance of more damage.(the strikes can’t target the wall spots)

Currently, there is a way to get all the damage of Icebow/Meteor Shower/etc landing on a fraction of its original area without pulling the boss to the wall. There is hardly any reason to stack onto the wall without FGS anymore (except a few).

Alright, since I was bored, I did some brainstorming. Please take these (humble) ideas of mine half-heartedly as it was conjured from my bored, intoxicated caffeinated brain. This is my proposal on How to Salvage the Current System to Allow More Variety of Game Play in PvE.

Objective: Change the current system as little as possible to avoid bugs, confusion, etc. Increase the potential of Condition, increase the usefulness of Crowd Control.

1. Make an overhaul of the current Defiant system:
Currently, Unshakeable grants stacks of Defiance, resistance against Blind (10% effective) and Vulnerability/Weakness. Defiance grants immunity against Crowd Control skills and is gained by CC.
Proposed change:

  • Defiance replenishes over time, 1 stack every 4 seconds until it reaches the maximum number equal to the number of attackers (similar to the current system).
  • Each stack of Defiance adds a certain amount of Armor to the boss, which reduces the incoming straight damage. For example, at 5 stacks of Defiance, incoming straight damage reduces 25%. At 20 stacks of Defiance, the boss receives 0 damage.
  • However, with each stack of Defiance, the boss becomes more susceptible to Condition Damage (increase 5%). It also receives an extra stack of condition on top of the maximum number. For example: 25+1 for Bleeding, 1+1 for Burning, etc, allowing more than one source of condition damage. However, conditions expire 5% faster with each stack Defiance. At 20 stacks of Defiance, all conditions cannot be applied.
  • Blind can only be applied when there is no Defiance (removed by CC skills).
  • Weakness reduces Defiance regeneration rate by 50%.

Predicted Result:

  • Skilled, organized zerker group is still able to burst the boss using the Frost Bow meta.
  • Average zerker group will need to pay attention to CC to keep the Defiance stacks low and their DPS reasonable. If they ignore the CC, they need to either be skilled OR wear more tanky gears to to survive the attrition.
  • Condi group can take advantage of Defiance for their damage boost. However, if going for max Defiance stack, they need to build for Condition Duration up keep as well. They will not have the mean to interrupt boss attack, so either dodge, use defensive skill, or become tankier.
  • A mixed group will probably have less efficiency than either coordinate group but will be easier for average players.
  • Bad glass groups will die.

Potential Hazards:

  • Too confusing for new players.
  • All the champion/world boss trains either cease to exist or become like a hive-mind crime syndicate.
  • Or World Bosses can become Legendary rank and this rule won’t apply.

2. Buff Retaliation
- Scale to both Attacker’s Power (small) and Retaliation’s Source (big)
- Let Elite mobs activate Retaliation when a condition is met.

Oh no, you misunderstand me. Most people here are trying to argue out about which weapon set S/D or S/F is better at Pre-stacking might. My stand is, if you can get 25 stacks of Might with a proper rotation, the rest isn’t much of an issue. You’ll have both upkeep at 18 stacks of might (assuming solo) or full stacks with allies’ blast.

On the other hand, if truly comparing the effectiveness of each weapon sets, S/D has better burst (including RtL) and S/F has better support and more CC. The issue about Churning Earth being slow and a DPS loss is the same as Comet being an unwarranted CC which messes up with thief/mesmer’s interruption.

i did some exploration and found out that before patch i got: staff, sword, torch, two shortbows, longbow, pistol, rifle, spear, harpoon gun and a hammer.

post patch: trident and shield.

have in mind that pre patch time lasted about little more then a year (i think the patch came around january, maybe february this year) and post patch till now, sooo… around 9-10 months.

you do the math how much drop rates changed.

the math is missing a very important piece of info.. your pre and post pristine counts

Are you talking about pristine relics? I am pretty sure the sole difference was that you could only get them on Fractals 10+ on even levels. I highly doubt anyone does such a low Fractal on a daily basis anyway.

yes but more generally im asking about how frequently hes been running. he said nothing about daily runs. just that he got like 10 weapons in a year and 2 weapons in the next 10 months. how am i supposed to know if he ran 50 times in the year and 10 times in the 10 months? cuz then the drop rate would be about the same, but his interest in running fractals dropped significantly.

I had about stack before the patch, no idea about the exact numbers and got all of the skins pre patch (including multiple Hammers and Shields). Only got 2 since the patch (Dagger and Trident).

I hate you. Go get kicked by Lupi or get zapped by a Risen Illusionnist.
I only play Fractals sporadically after Fractured patch. I’ve got Rifle, Sword, Mace, Long Bow, Spear, Torch, Axe in that order. Most of them were from Mai Trin.

Who did the calculations, you or someone else? I was refering to “Thief is no self might stacking class”. And I am pretty certain that thief has got the highest DPS in a relaxed boss fight. But curious to see something which explains the rankings =)

Edit: I’m getting 300 power with 10 stacks of might btw. Edit²: 350 actually.

Alright, first thing, first. The statement was claimed by Nike of [DnT] and are generally accepted by the speedrun community based on [DnT] extensive work on theorycrafting.

The claim was here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2ls4zd/dps_solo_ranking/

Their theorycrafting work can be found here; most notably some number crunching during pre-September patch http://www.dtguilds.com/forum/m/6563292/viewthread/13987449-dps-estimates-for-each-professions-in-30s-battles and http://www.dtguilds.com/forum/m/6563292/viewthread/13086970-who-picks-up-fgs

I never claim directly that “Thief is no self might stacking class” because every class can self-stack might at some degrees. However, thief suffers a lot of DPS to trait for Shadow Arts (please refer to my previous explanation post). For 350 Power bonus of 12 stacks of might, you are missing 500 Powers from trait points and Revealed Training, 7 stacks of Vuln in average (equally to 7% DPS increase) and the total damage modifier would be: 1.05*1.07*1.10*1.05=1.30. That is 30% more damage missing for extra 350 Power!!!

Considering Lupicus Giganticus is one long drawn and most relax boss fight ever known to most of us, the record time of the highest solo kill without exploited reflect is:

  • 3:36 for Staff Ele
  • 4:58 for Zerker Warrior (and faster with a condi build)
  • 5:3x for Zerker Thief. I couldn’t find the link, but the previous record is around 5:50 anyways

If you claim your Shadow Art build has the best DPS, you can post a video of your boss kill using the build. Then we’ll have someone post their version with the max DPS build to compare.

Just consider the roles.

Mobility:

  • Stealth is REALLY nice, not required though.
  • Swiftness uptime is a concern
  • What else do they have? leaps? Teleports? Blinks? FGS is great for covering distance.

Damage:

  • Might really really helps
  • Vuln is always nice as well
  • Fury is another thing
  • Are you comfortable running the professions rotations and damage setups?

Defense:

  • Projectile defense is very very impactful
  • Evades? Blocks? Aegis? What else do you have and need?
  • Healing scales poorly but with some synergy you can do a lot.

Just consider what things add. Warriors/Ele have decent Fury buffs for the group, Ele basically permanent. Ele>Engi>Guard/War for might stacking, warrior can phalanx but I wouldn’t even consider that an option in a duo, not worth the loss. Ele/Engi for Vuln… Ranger, Necro, and Warrior aren’t bad either but can’t match Ele/Engi.

For Mobility Warrior/Ele/Guard and well lots can provide swiftness. Then there’s the other stuff. Thief>Engi>Mesmer for Stealth.

Guard is the predominant defensive player, though Mesmer is solid as well and then a lot of others can fill in as needed.

If I were to make a duo I’d probably go Engi+ war/ele/guard ideally, depending on the situation, if it were just in general it’d be a tossup on war/ele probably lean towards Ele though it’s a tough profession to play. Maintaining full might & Fury as well as Vuln in a duo… nothing to complain about.

Blind is such a wonderful under appreciated thing.

The trait is the second last in the SA line. And since in a CnD BS spam situation I’m stealthed every other second another 2 stacks are coming in.

Alright, for 12 stacks of Might, you are missing out a lot of damage modifiers and +300 Power. Let’s take a look:

  • Sundering Strike: stack Vulnerability, a DPS increase
  • Dagger Training: +5% Damage with Backstab, etc
  • Exposed Weakness: +10% Damage if your target has a condition (good synergy with your Vuln uptime.)
  • Revealed Training: +200 Power when revealed. For a BS build, this is a DPS increase.

So a thief cannot have both optimal DPS build and might. It explains why it is not highly ranked in the solo DPS scale. I need to mention that this scale is based on the max (solo) DPS build of each class.

How’s about this rotation:

Pre-stacking might:
Scepter/Dagger: Fire 2 → Fire 4 → Fire 3 → Arcane Wave → Earth 4
Swap to Staff: Earth 2 → Fire 2 → Arcane Brilliance
Swap to Dagger/Focus: Fire 4 → Water 2, 5

Engagement: Ice Bow → Air, Lightning Storm → your normal DPS sequence.

Basically, when soloing…

  1. Ele
  2. Warrior
  3. Engineer
  4. Guardian
  5. Mesmer
  6. Thief
  7. Necromancer
  8. Ranger
The first group: self might-stacking, the second group: reflect + damage modifiers, the third group… roll eyes.
In that sense, a good PvE duo has a good (and sustainable) straight DPS and a good utility class (be it guardian, engineer, mesmer or thief and to a certain extent, ranger).

My thief is traited for might, he usually has got 12 stacks.

Interesting. May I ask for your build? Since the top 3 on this ranking do not have to compromise their maximum DPS for might stacking.

Bifrost is perfect as it is. Soft, elegant, pretty, graceful, delicate, quiet, glowing and tenderly. The fleeting rainbow mirage of Bifrost works as intended.

For boss fights where DPS is the most protracted, they are typically one target right? Do theives have most damage for that as well?

Thief do the most single target dmg in a full buff group.

Basically, when soloing…

  1. Ele
  2. Warrior
  3. Engineer
  4. Guardian
  5. Mesmer
  6. Thief

The Moot, The Juggernaut, or Frostfang?

Frostfang matches Howler and Kamohoali the best. Likewise, Rodgort matches Fused Axe, Incinerator and Firey Dragon Sword.

Well, as I said, “personally speaking”. I can’t stand the look of the Incinerator, Quip, Twilight OR Sunrise. Bifrost is OK, but it SO does not suit a dark, gothic Necromancer. (Which I have.) But everybody has their own taste, so I won’t judge people if they do pick up these Legendaries.

You think bifrost is ok? than you must be ok with a bow that is shooting rainbow horses.

Best looking legendaries are:
Juggernaut
Sunrise
Twilight
Eternity
Flameseeker
Bolt
Meteorlogicus

others are….ugly.

Personal taste. Bifrost, meteorlogicus, minstrel, incinerator are all equally good-looking. Personally, I love bifrost the most as I main ele and this one makes her extremely sparkling and dressy.

To OP: If neither of them looks good on your intended character then it’s better to save the cost and look for other skins.
