119 gold for 25 keys "on sale"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Iris Ng.9845

Iris Ng.9845

So far, I have bought about 50 keys by gems and gather enough tickets for two lovely Halloween weapon skins. I must say that I love the skins and I commit to buy it with real money because I barely have any time at all to farm golds. Farming keys by repeating the story multiple times is boring work. If, let’s say, Anet put the individual skin on sale, each skin would stagger around (10 scraps/25% drop rate) x (1680 gem/25 keys)= 2688 gems. I doubt any of us would be happy. Lower than that price, the weapon would not be as rare and less coveted.

Maybe I have payed more than for what it’s worth of the two weapons, I’m happy with all the extra thrown to me from the chests. The boosters are nice for alts, and occasional dungeon/fractals runs. The hair change packs ensure myself always up to date with any new hair styles and color. The dyes give me some gold and the minis are to collect or forge. No biggie. I enjoy them all.

If you think that 119 golds are too much for 25 keys for the purpose of obtaining a weapon skin then you are right. Each skin costs only about 75 golds on the TP. The extra golds are payed for the other extra from the chest as well, and depending on your luck, you can profit more.

TL,DR; people like me do pay for the convenient service they enjoy. Just because you don’t afford the service, you condemn Anet as greedy; I personally find it ridiculous.

My dyes have changed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Iris Ng.9845

Iris Ng.9845

I originally started typing up a big post about explanations and reasons and theories, but I think that they’d get in the way of the point I’m trying to make, so I’ll keep it as concise as I can.

What is:
Glow mask areas remove the shiny effect beneath them in the current system.

The armor glow and skin glow are two different systems. The only control currently possible is through the armor dye of that area.

What will be:
Textures: I’ll get the textures to work like they used to. By this, I mean they can go back to darker and have their gradients as much as I can while keeping the glow.

Dye Masks: I will get them to behave more like the old shapes, but you’ll still see some tweaks because of the glow. I see a couple folks mentioning dye masks being removed. This was unintentional and I’ll look into it.

Glow Shape: I can minimize some of the glow layer shape in the texture so it doesn’t affect the broadness of specular as much. You’ll get most of your shiny leaves back.

What I’m working on:
The glow isn’t as rich and saturated as one would predict. This wasn’t touched and is not a part of the texture or dye files, even though the dye shape is now controllable. There may be a way to get this changed on the shader, but it would only affect cultural armor and nightmare court stuff, not any clothing.

The glow can get to be more aligned to the color. If you dye the shape blood red, it will glow like a traffic light. If you dye it dark red, it’ll glow dark red. If you dye it pink, it will glow pink. If you dye it white, it will blow out so bright. …if you dye it black or dark dark dark, it’ll barely glow if at all.

By dying it dark, you can effectively artificially “mostly turn off” the glow. This is the biggest middle ground while still giving the people who love the glow their choice as well.

Thanks everyone for your feedback on this change. I tried my best to explain this system and what I’m working on, but there are technical elements and nuances that are fairly complex to describe. Note that any changes I could make will not get into the game the next build release. But they may get into the build after that. Now back to work for me. :}

Thanks, Kristen, for the awesome work. I actually have learnt a way about the new glow by changing the whole dye set. But your input about the future work is exciting. If it doesn’t cause much of your troubles, could you please look into the clipping problem by mixing different cultural pants with T3 medium boots? Again, your work is most appreciated. xxx

Note on the picture: I was able to hot fix some of the nuance on the boots by changing the dye. The cape still looks darker than before and the color less “blended”. I wish for more dye channel on the boots and the cape, since they only have two.

My only complaint would be the building lag which I feel recently during the crowded events. But nothing stops me playing from time to time.

I feel for OP. I spent a good 6 hours yesterday trying to complete both Master of Baubles and Secrets at the same time. When I finally finished the jumping and flute sequence to get the elite skill, I thought it would be over… But no, the last jump for the last bauble is even more difficult and frustrated the hell lot out of me. I was on a verge of tears because I kept trying desperately, refusing to give up my previous hard work (more than 4 hours already) while under pressure of time as it’s past my bedtime already. I finally got both achievements out of pure luck but both of them leaves such a bitter taste in my mouth. My rant was mostly on the numerous difficult jumps back to back of each other, combined with the very long run that if I failed one jump, I have to restart all over. Another issue is the requirement of a dodge-jump and an about-face-in-mid-air jump on a very tiny ledge that makes my character slip off the ledge most the time (or hit the wall and fall to doom). The last annoying bit is I have to figuratively glue myself to the computer for hours on end without break, because Masters of Baubles achievement requires me to discover every baubles in one full (long) run.
All in all, it really makes me hesitated in trying the next world. So much work…

I put my thumb on both key C (dodge) and Space so that the joint rests on the Space bar and the tip of my thumb lightly on the dodge key. When jumping, I time it like a normal jump with W as forward. I disagree with the OP’s statement. In my case, it probably takes me a whole afternoon to finish a TM zone. On the other hand, with practice, it only takes a couple of hours a day to get approximately 17 bauble bubbles from normal mode. In short, I can get a blue weapon skin easily after 3 days of casual playing. In my opinion, even if you have 28 green or yellow weapon skins, they are still highly valuable to people like me who probably ever get them after wasting a lot of time. Besides, I don’t have any problems with not getting ALL the weapon skin set. Ain’t hoard every shinies with the current limited bank space.

Jewelry and artificer are the next cheapest but still 4-5 times more expensive.

General gearing questions

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Iris Ng.9845

Iris Ng.9845

My easier suggestion:

  • Go to Heart of the Mist
  • Try different combinations of amulet (gearing) and weapon sets and traits, a.k.a. different builds. They are all free.
  • Go whack the training NPCs. I personally love the char warrior.
  • Whack more than 1 NPC at a time.
  • Find your favorite play style.
  • Now go to a PvP game and smack people.
  • If you like what you are doing, it’s good, you’re likely to find out your build.
  • If something seems missing, try doing a research in forum and re-adjust the build.
  • Now go back to PvE and find the pieces of armors and trinket that you want.

That pretty much sums up how my bf got 8 of his characters ready. He is a quick learner, currently a WvW farmer and a tPvP player

GuildWars Platinum? Edition for HoM Points...

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Iris Ng.9845

Iris Ng.9845

I just finished my 30/50 pts recently with a bare minimal wealth/effort needed. Here are what I found best for me:

  • Start with getting both Faction and NightFall campaign. It is so beneficial in skills and gold wise, and greatly reduces the grinding time.
  • Do make all 8 characters, even if you don’t use all them. In 1 year, they will give you 8 birthday minis.
  • Get a ritualist character in Faction. It is just too OP in PvE. If you and your wife can be both ritualists, consider vanquishing, hard mode stories and dungeons 99% done.
  • Complete quests and progress your Faction campaign until you get to Kaineng. Then, at level 10, unlock the path to NightFall and from there progress to Eye of the North so that you can get as much heroes as possible.
  • Your ultimate party will need: 2 ritualists (players or Xandra), 3 mesmers (Gwenx2, Norgu), 2 necromancers (Olias, Livia), and Koss (because he is such a tanky hottie!). I suggest you two become ritualists to save the pain of acquiring the ritualist heroes: Xandra during tournament of Eye of the North (hard), and Razah until almost endgame (hard and lengthy). It was extremely difficult for a solo player to get 3 mesmer heroes ( I paid for a mercenary one), but with two players it should be easy. Your team build should be this: http://gwpvx.gamepedia.com/Build:Team_-_Glint%27s_Heroway or variations of this build.
  • It is advisable to get your secondary profession necromancer and/or mesmer to unlock the elite skils for your heroes.
  • Eye of the North buffs your characters to level 20 and it has most of the necessary elite skills so you may want to finish it first, then Night Fall for Norgu, then Factions because it is short and gives a lot of gold rewards and access to Jade Quarry.
  • When your characters are level 20 and the above team build is finish, consider this order:
    • Finish the campaign Factions, Eye of the North, Night Fall, Prophecies (4 statues)
    • During it, remember to get the prestige pets Rainbow Phoenix and Black Moa while equiping a CHARM (ranger) skill (2 statues). You don’t have to be a ranger, have your hero a secondary ranger and micro it.
    • Get your first prestige armor, the earliest is Sunspear, at 60 plats (1 HoM point)
    • Do the Black Moa Chick quest, which gives you 1 HoM pt for unique pet
    • While doing the quest, finish Sorrow Furnace (1 statue). Your team build should cruise through this with no problem.
    • Get a Luxon/ Kurzick guild. Grind Jade quarry, donate the faction points to your guild (x2 progressing points), get your titles to tier 4, then switch to the opposing side (2 titles). Or gather enough amber and jade for at least 1 set of Kurzick/Luxon prestige armor (1 HoM point)
    • You will need to choose between 5 prestige armor sets or 5 prestige weapons. I lost count of which one is cheaper, but you don’t have to do both to get 30 points. The cheapest armor sets are Ancient, Norn, Vanguard and Asuran (40 plats each, since you don’t have to craft the head piece to get the statues)
    • Farm 10 Clothes of Brotherhood, 5 Stolen Sunspear armors and 5 ancient armor remnants to clothe 20 differents heroes. With the pets, it should give you at least 7/8 HoM points.
    • Do the War in Kryta chain events for at least 1 Oppressor weapon. Grind the dungeons to get mat for at least 1 Destroyer weapon. When the Wayfarer’s Reveries quest comes back in August, finish it for 1 Tormented weapon, don’t miss this yearly chance. You can buy two more from players.
  • As for minis, it will be difficult to get 20 of them as prices are currently inflated because of no supplies. Whenever possible, buy at least 1 purple and buy the rest white. Check map chat, some nice guys will offer them for free
  • If money is a problem, then slowly walk yourself down the road to get enough titles/statues for the Honor branch. They take longer time but you may like them more than I do. The less grinding statues are the ones for completing Elite Mission, hard but excellent rewards.

Again, Ritualist is ridiculously OP, ugh… I strongly advise new players to start with Ritualist and research both the SoS and Soul Twisting builds.

To OP: feel free to give me an in-game message (in GW2), I can help you with some extra materials

P.S.: Consider selling all Black and White dyes you get as drop. They are a good source of income.

P.S.2: Don’t forget to turn blind eyes away from those exclusive, shiny and pretty prestige skins (Chaos gloves, etc…)

P.S.3: Zaishen keys are ridiculously expensive. I’d rather sold them than buy them.

I would like to put into consideration fact that our characters are heroes, knights and wizards, that are supposed to do heroic stuff not go from fair to fair and gather candies.
Seriously, dragons are ravaging land, world is on brink of destruction and whats going on in meantime is festival after festival.

Living world looked promising when F&F story started to unfold, but it turned out to be achivement chasing, and smalltime drama. Those events are not world changing, they barely leave a trace. If you look at Wayferer hills after F&F was over there is nothing changed about that place. Yea some refuges got to LS etc. but you cant see or feel any impact it had on world.

Whole stroyline feels patched together with not much sense like its part of bigger story chain. Sadly it has come down to playing minigames for shiny skins, whole living world story is in shadow of new skins and minigames.
At least thats how I feel about it recently, I would really love to see some content that will shape Tyria and leave trace, not some holliday resort drama and new egzotic marketplace of thousand deaths by falling…

You fail to see that all the living stories so far has a perpetrator behind the scene who will surely come back with a BAM!!! Meanwhile the world is still living and enjoying their little happy daily lives.

Like things with Tybalt is not dark enough… the wars in the open world are not dark enough, centaur v.s. human, ghost v.s. charr. And the Halloween lore pretty much reminds me of Games of Thrones.

6 months from now, everyone will be a Commander

I may have the gold but I won’t waste my gold on a Commander icon. I’m not up for the task and I know its pressure. I’ve seen a lot of frustration when pugs don’t follow the commander. Yes, bad commanders will be blissfully ignored. Average commanders will be asked to turned off their icons as to concentrate the force on a map.

100 gold is what you pay for commitment, like when you pay for a driving license. Everyone can drive, but not all can drive a community/school bus.

Well, we Kaineng can always step back to let TC and FA settle your lovers’ quarrel. As much as I hate to be a third wheel, I look forward to great fights between three servers and a wonderful matchup thread ahead.

Hugs to both FA and TC,

Iris Ng.9845

Name: Iris Spellsinger

Approximate Age: 24

Affiliation: at one point, a hero of Shaemoor, then a friend of the Seraph, almost get recruited to the Shining Blade. Upon learning of her past, decide to join Order of Whisper

Race: Krytan, with a heritage of Canthan

Profession:
An elementalist per se, she has a 9-to-9 job as a medical practitioner of a prestigious guild. She often plays with the thought of quitting her current job to become an adventurer. Yes, she should have enrolled the Priory in the first place. The decision on the Order was, well, impulsive. She didn’t really advance her rank in the Order after all. Still, Iris never becomes an adventurer. Her guild needs her, and that is pretty much the reason of her life and her existence.

Appearance
A tall girl with pleasant features. Her hair is soft and black. Her eyes are round and lively. Her smile is comforting as she is a gentle person at heart. Once a noble, Iris used to wear exquisite gowns wit long train and intricate gems and details. Since she took her job, she pretty much transform her image with a plain cotton shirt, a belted pants and neatly tied work boots. Her noble childhood friends probably won’t recognize her but well, Iris wouldn’t be bothered. She still keeps her lovely gowns for special occasions, especially when she is invited to tea by the Queen.

History
Iris inherits a noble last name from her adoptive parents. They passed away not long before she became of age. She missed them dearly but was always weary of her true parentage. Later on, she discovered that her true parents were spies for the Queen, who eventually met their demise without any helps. Even though, Iris decided not to blame anyone for the incident, she still felt bitter towards her parents’ blind loyal to the Queen. She took the chance to leave Divinity Reach by joining the Order, on a spur of thought that the Order could bring her closer to her parents’ murderers. However, the Order’s objective was something bigger; they were after the Dragons. Disapproving the way The Pact fought the Dragons, especially after the loss of her precious mentor Tybalt, Iris lost interest and joined the Mist war. Here she found the place she truly belongs.

Family and Friends
Iris met her fiance when she joined the Mist War. They also ended up in a same guild afterward. Their bond stays strong through the turbulent time of peace and war. However, sometimes, Iris wishes that her fiance wouldn’t nag her so much about her busy job. After all, she is the one who patches him up after every single fight.

Quirks
People may notice that Iris is very attentive and tolerant. She always has her orange tabby cat named Will around and keeps his treat in her quaggan backpack. In fact, Will makes her calm and dissipates her annoyance.

7/10 The heavy makeup archetype somewhat conflicts with the elegant and relaxed aura that your character seems to portray.

Here’s mine. I aim for a combat-ready appearance with a casual attitude. This girl takes frills lightly, but would go distance to be perfect in battles. Her puffy eyes are to show many sleepless night she spent in WvW. A bit nerdy as a sidekick. How I wish Anet would change the townclothes glasses to armor skin!
