Hello,
I play thief, ele and guard for PvE, and I’ve recently noticed that the builds on metabattle are not identical with the ones in the GW2 forums. Namely Obal’s and DEKeyzToChaos’. To be more specific: sigils. To be even more specific: universal day-time sigils. (So NOT monster-slaying sigils but those that are viable for any daytime content.) Obal suggests accuracy, strength and fraility (depending on build/group setup/weapon/etc.) and DEKeyz suggests strength and bloodlust for D/F ele. While metabattle goes all the way with fraility sigils. So which is the correct information? (For slow-hitting weapons fraility sigils dont look so appealing to me. Maybe good for my thief though…)
There is no right or wrong here. The only matter is which one is the most efficient in your case. Frailty is cheap and vulnerability stacking is universally useful in any casual groups. Accuracy is helpful when you have to use build that deviates far from the Precision trait line. It is pretty much useless on classes that stack precision like mesmer or engi. Battle is good for builds that cannot self-stack might and strength for fast hitting weapon skills and a cheaper alternative. Bloodlust is good against waves of trashmobs. Other than that, just go with different slaying sigil. 2 silver or so per use.
Just had to mention, there’s still some room on Engi unless you’re grouping with a ranger, personally I rarely do that (not a choice thing just doesn’t happen /shrug). So I use accuracy on my general purpose rifle. I have a night/force exotic for most dungeons, force/accuracy ascended, and I was going to craft another ascended just for force/undead for arah, but then I kinda stopped playing for a while.
I would rated battle far better than accuracy based on my experience with horrible pugs. But again if you are in a decent group that has a certain thing covered, it’s only natural and logical to reach for the other options.
I myself also use frailty when I pug with guard, for the simple fact that I don’t trust pugs to know how to stack vuln and burst with lightning storm. Even worse, some would range the encounter the whole time. My POV is the same, adjust your build/equipment to your group’s need.

Do you have plans to improve mesmer?
and why:
in pvp
mesmer is weakest in 1vs1 .
in Dungeon
not strong nor as dps nor as support (Occasionally they throw you out for it that you want play mesmer but it is ok bigger problem in pvp)I enjoy just Mesmer so I wanted to know whether it will change or not.
I wanted to know because otherwise not worth for me to keep playing GW2
Not sure if serious. This mesmer guy is able to solo the full Thaumanova fractal level 50. The class is not weak in dungeons. It is fantastic with a “ridiculous amount of unique mechanics” (quoted from the epic mesmer guy)

Hello,
I’m Iris. As many may not be aware, I started this intiative Dungeon Mentor 11 months ago. Our mentors are working per appointments. However, most of our students are either too shy or too confused about our system to approach the mentors. During this holiday season, I’m running a daily tutorial on Caudecus’ Manor, Sorrow’s Embrace and Twilight Arbor and welcome all to join my group.
So, what to expect:
- This is a tutorial on how to run these short dungeons for maximal gold gain.
- We will perform stealth-skip when it is possible. Be prepared to follow the thief lead and educate yourself a bit on how Stealth works.
- Have some knowledge and experience in your class. Level 80s only.
- Meta builds are welcome; if not, bring your own DPS build that you are most comfortable with. Tanking and Healing are NOT expected.
- You are encouraged to bring all the weapons of your class. Some have their niche you and I’m excited to tell you about them.
- We adapt strategies from actual speed run records. We have different stealth spots, los spot, some open field fights instead of the old stacking strategy.
- We will do all paths, except TA Aetherpath and SE p2. Those two are only if I feel we have a decent group compatibility.
- Run starts around 20 pm EST (after I finish my daily fotm 50).
- If you have any questions, please do tell.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Guys,
Just a head up. I’m starting a quick beginner session for Caudecus’ Manor and a few easy dungeons if time permits. Run starts daily after reset and my fractal 50 (around 20 pm EST). PM me if you are interested and I’ll pm you when the run starts.
Love,

Hey Guys,
Just a lil bit of christmas magic from the guy known as “MLG Griefer kittenkicker Dungeon Frontier Justice Defender & Policeman of all the poor souls”…
So I’ve been in Snow Crows [SC], a guild that most of you know quite well, for close to a year as I joined in January 2014.
In this past year, I came to realize that all of them actually meant more to me than just gaming friends, or simple guildies. I consider them as my friends, with a special mention for a handful of them that supported me as I was going through huge real life problems, and I was being abandoned by people who were less of friends…So I decided to make a special memory, and amek that into an item that means a lot to me for this occasion. I’ve wanted a Zippo lighter for a few years, but never had something that meant enough to be written on it. But I just had to search a little closer to my friends, the ones that meant so much to me. I thus got this lighter made as a token of this past years spent with this incredible people.
Here it is : http://imgur.com/1KjEHQl,fW2qmHN
To my guildies (extended to people that left for other adventures, like Cheezy), I wish you a merry christmas and my best wishes for next year. To the rest of the forum community, you guys are awesome, don’t change any of it
Love and chocolate,
Sam.
I’m both glad and envious of you to have such nice guildies.

6/6/0/0/2 for bosses you’re able to backstab, 6/5/0/0/3 for non backstab bosses, 6/5/0/3/0 for solos and situations where you need extra dodges. 6/5/3/0/0 for long skips.
Shouldn’t it be like this (bolded part)? And I thought that Executioner is worth getting more than Revealed Training when you are not able to backstab. Thus, 5/6/0/0/3?

WETHOSPU (continued)
[Best Dungeon Initiative and Written Guide]
1. What was your motivation to start gw2dungeons.net?
- Idea was to give support for dungeons so more people could experience them. To avoid the current dungeon situation.
2. How long did you spend on it? Can you describe the volume of work involved?
- I haven’t listed time spent so it’s hard to say but I would say it’s pretty close to 1000 hours for the whole project. I have done like 90-95% so roughly 900 hours. Lots of time has been spent to fix incorrect decisions.
3. Since when did it evolve from a personal written guide to a community initiative?
- I’m still waiting for that evolution. Excluding haviz, all community involvement has required a quite strong push from me. But I had literally personal guide about 6 months before gw2dungeons on incgamers fan site.
4. What kinds of help and contribution has it received so far?
- Kcen helped me initially to create the site, without his help it would look really crap. Haviz has been big help writing significant sections for the guide. Some other people have helped a bit with the content but we are looking at a couple of lines. Lots of people have helped with profession specific stuff. Dulfy saved the project with hosting when I was about to give up. Additionally one person has made a donation. DPS tool from frifox has been useful to get health values.
5. Please comment about its completion status. Any plans to expand it in the future?
- It’s far from complete. Lots of enemy and encounter data are missing. Lots of dungeons would need rewriting and updates. Unfortunately I didn’t get the support from community which I initially hoped to reach this goal. Also the dungeon content is so stale and easy that there is not that much use for the guide. Since developers abandoned dungeons I don’t have that much motivation to spend additional 1000 hours to get everything on top shape.
6. Who is the target audience of gw2dungeons.net? Do you get any feedback from them?
- Guide was meant for every player, from casual first timers to hardcore soloers. Encounter info gives people a general idea what to do while enemy data allows people to research encounters more thoroughly. I hardly get any feedback. I have tried to ask what people would like to see but I rarely get anything. But text bugs/mistakes get pointed out pretty fast.
7. Please comment about other candidates of Best Written Guides.
- At some point I planned to add similar guides for my site. So I’m really happy to see those guides since they mean less work for me. They have been linked from gw2dungeons so they extend my site. I have to say they have done great job with their guides but let’s not forget gw2dungeons also has class specific stuff
[Community member of the Year]
1. How do you describe yourself as a community member?
- Hard question. I do lots of stuff based on pure self interest and then post results as it’s not a big effort. I don’t really like interacting with individual persons because that seems a waste of time for me but I try to help people when possible. I like to work on bigger scale trying to help and improve whole thing.
2. What do you think the fractal and dungeon community consists of?
- Everyone who is interested of the content, regardless of the skill level or time spent. So not just the hardcore speedrunners but neither people who want a trinity so they could enjoy dungeons.
3. What do you think about our image? How should we improve it to better communicate with ANet developers and the public crowd?
- I would say the image is pretty bad because people don’t communicate “nice enough”. Yes, I know that idiotic comments are annoying when they appear weekly but lots of people just don’t understand. If you immediately get on their face they get really defensive and will never accept your ideas, instead they think we are elitist pricks and disappear to bad mouth us. Lots of people are sensitive.
Public events (like tournaments) have been very nice, without drama of course. I think more like these could help people see how dungeons work. Noob initiative has been nice too but I think a very casual “play with elitists” event would work wonders (or be a complete disaster).

WETHOSPU (nominated for 4 categories)
[Best Solo Player of the Year]
1. Can you talk a bit about yourself and how you became a solo player?
- First of all, I don’t really like people. But really, I wanted to do “the impossible”. People considered Lupicus incredibly hard and impossible to melee. When I realized his infection can be dodged I figured I could also learn to beat his other phases. Then I naturally expanded and soloed various dungeons. Nowadays soloing is pretty boring because it’s so mainstream.
2. How did you join [rT]?
- I was one of the founders. I don’t recall exact events but people wanted a speed run guild but for political reasons my [SOLO] guild wasn’t suitable so new one was made. I actually didn’t really participate, just sat on my kitten looking pretty like nowadays.
3. Some people refer to you as the God of Warriors. In your opinion, what makes you stand out from the rest of solo players?
- I was first so average solos I did were considered “impossible”. Nowadays there are better players with more patience, time and perhaps skill too.
What do you think is the definition of skilled play?
- In my opinion truly skilled playing is to use widely available resources and do something “impossible”. For that you need to know your class, the encounter and have necessary physical ability to execute it. In my opinion just copying some tactic and execution and spamming for better RNG/time is not very skilled because it’s one-dimensional.
4. Which solo of yours represents yourself the most? And why?
- I would say the first Lupicus (solo) because that truly shows what I’m interested of doing, “the impossible”.
What were the challenges? How did you find out the strategy to overcome it?
- Biggest challenge was to figure out which weapon sets to use. I literally tried every possible option multiple times. Ranged weapon was natural phase 1 and phase 2 but I got wrecked on phase 3. So what do I do? Do I try with ranged and try to get through phase 3 or switch to full melee and try to survive phase 1/2? I carefully considered my options and figured phase 1/2 are actually pretty simple so full melee should work.
5. Do you have any other solos in plans?
- I do have some interesting plans but those encounters are pretty hard to reach so I can’t really bother with it.
6. Do you play any other classes?
- I don’t play much nowadays so not really. But I have mesmer and thief ready!
7. If you can give one advice to beginners, what is it?
- Plan what you are doing. If you want to figure stuff on your own just go to the enemy and look what it does and when. Instead of immediately trying to beat it think for a minute how to counter it’s attacks. Alternatively you can use resources like youtube or gw2dungeons.net. If you want to become a known soloer don’t bother posting average stuff, get clean kills which show your superiority. Also edit your videos properly to keep them short.

I’d second the suggestion of locus sig, but I would recommend using it for the passive. With a bit of bonus movement speed you can juke his melee attack and thus don’t need to worry about crippling or kiting.
[Example here] Sorry its on boring ele.
I will probably make a thief version but I wanted to give a clear example of the tequnique without steath mucking up his attack pattern.
It does remind me of Wethospu’s Spider Queen no dodge no damage solo. Very cool!
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
His reason wasn’t “I don’t use exploit”. It was “I don’t use ranged”. So I wonder what his proper method is. And it’s not like we’re N*** and not listening to him. And it’s also not likely he didn’t agree with exploit when we bugged the powder keg earlier and he said nothing. Double standard, much?
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Sometimes, I got hit by pugs this elitist.
My bro, I and two other ele pugs were 4-man CM p2. I noticed that while they do have DPS, the ele had no where enough experience to melee Turmaine (bad rotation, bad might stacking, abuse FGS, scepter/dagger camping). We made it to Turmaine. Feeling bad for the ele, I was like oh, well, let’s do it the easy way. And the conversation happened.
In the end, the rest of us three-man Turmaine. It seems that he was no longer bugged so we ended up with me kiting the Plague form while the group is trying to burst him when he’s vulnerable. I feel bad, I shouldn’t have said anything at all. I’ve hurt someone’s properness.

Hey everyone,
In continuation of our popularity contest, I would like to prepare a short interview with each finalists to help us better understand the person/the cause, their motivation and the monumental work behind their success (or downfall).
So as a person who is interested in this poll, please address your questions to the finalists here. I’m gonna select the best 6 (based on my bias) for the interview. There are a few restriction:
1. Please keep your question as specific as possible but avoid further detailed technical explanation which derails the topic.
- Good example: What sparked the idea of stacking 2 mesmers in SE p1 record? What is its challenge? – To Snow Crow.
- Bad example: What are your mesmer builds?
2. Please avoid flaming, disgracing, personal attacks and any sorts of drama. If you try to be funny, keep it lighthearted, please.
- Good example: We like your (SC) CM records but the dungeon is plain and boring. So, what is your motivation to make the records interesting?
- Bad example: How many times did Jerem **** up to Sandy to make Sandy care (a little) about CM?
That is all, have fun with throwing out the questions.
Have a nice day to all!

Whoa, thank you. Nike just submitted the name earlier and I have already corrected the survey.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Playing thief in an “experienced speedrun” pug is more difficult than we think. People reaching for guides like metabattle.com only care about their own build and rotation while having absolutely no knowledge of blasting stealth. They are dependent yet very picky on the thief.
Imagine that I have to use all Blinding Powder, Smoke Screen and Shadow Refuge for a simple run in CM and have to wait for CD to swap utilities for battle. It is annoying. Not to mention how people innocently run ahead of you, get revealed and drag an horde of aggro with them. I even devolved to a D/P build for more survivality. In my opinion, either trying to match the mediocrity of your pug group or bring a friend who knows how to blast.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Going to assume that you are making ascended for the purpose of PvE. If not, oh well.
You’re going to deeply regret not making your ascended set berserker if you plan to use it in PvE.
Just warning you in advance… ascended costs hundreds of gold to make and is the absolute highest tier you can get. Wasting all of that money on a suboptimal set would just be depressing.
I strongly advise strength runes because while scholar is the top-end rune for DPS in groups, it’s to be expected that while pugging / learning you’re probably going to struggle to maintain scholar bonus. Scholar is roughly 7% (from 10% – 5%?) superior DPS to strength runes assuming
100%50-70% uptime on the 10% damage modifier, so strength runes are all-around ideal in most cases unless you’re with a very well-organised group.Either way even if you’re pugging with really bad people, you’ll still not want to use anything in PvE besides berserker.
I concur. Not only it’s tough to maintain the Scholar bonus for longer than 50% the duration of the fight, it’s also more beneficial for you to have longer might duration in PUG. From my experience, average pug does not know how to blast your fire field for might and even fewer actively asks for fire field. Imagine the long drawn-out fight (fractals, Arah) where you have to juggle with the boss, might duration is important and often underrated.
Assumption made: imperfect might stacking rotation.

Oh my the twists and turns of this thread.
On topic,
Someone made a rather unlettered recommendation that having higher Vitality should increase dodges.
I’m down.
so long as we’re doing that, though, increased Power should lower weapon skill cooldowns. Increased precision should increase the damage of my attacks the closer I am to my target. Increased Ferocity should increase my attack speed.
Sounds fair to me. Let’s do it.
The vitality idea is not one I agree with, but you could only equate it with power, ferocity and precision if those stats only affected your weapon auto attack, and absolutely nothing else.
And the simplistic way the core of the game currently works, that would still be offering more than raising any other stat.
Sure way. I approve! Let the warrior meta resurrect!

No. I only see that trick in [SC]‘s latest CM p3 and the one who did it were Tobi and their war(or guard). It’s far more beneficial for the ele to chain Lightning Storm → Ice Bow → Meteor Shower right away. I have tried the trick myself and find position the “Ice Wall” isn’t easy with moving object. Nevertheless, the recent strategy of[SC] is to make use of burst potential of conjured weapons usingTempest Defence. Long fight like the one at the Clown Car in SE p3, 04550 will have better DPS.

blah blah blah blah blah
…..7- The skill level of most of these speed runners is going from bad to worse; the boss just steps out of the “safe heaven” corner for two seconds and everyone is dead.
Waaah… hold it right there. So you say speed runners require no skills at all. Let me give you an example.
Caudecus’ Manor p3
- An average, play-how-I-want group finished it in about 18 minutes. Not bad, right?
- A speedclear group competing in real-time streaming finished it in 4:15 minutes. Well, you may argue that they have a better group comp and potentially 4 times higher DPS. Is it even possible??? If it was true, then why would people want to bash the meta when it is 4 times more efficient?
But wait, we were talking about skills after all. - The current world record of this path completion is 2:37 minutes!!!. Yep, the whole path was finished in the time that most pug requires to take down the turrets.
It’s alright, I know you are shocked. But let’s take a deep breath and be honest. Speed clear requires skills. That is an undeniable fact.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Guess you never heard of Ghost Pepper Poppers. They are the true easy mode in this game, at least in nighttime instances.

Could have other mobs which reflect all non-damaging conditions back to the player, for example. But different mob, different approach. The point is to make sure that you cannot simply /melee-snooze every single mob, by interspersing mobs which are very very dangerous to that approach.
Got another one:
Assassin
Upon aggro, this mob stealthes, then moves towards a target player slowly but being invulnerable (you can in theory predict where they are but it doesn’t help you much), then dealing a single from-stealth attack which will down a berserker-geared player, just barely (is based on class, so it always downs a berserker player).
A small~medium amount of extra defense or Aegis will avoid it, and they take 10-15 seconds to be able to re-stealth.Ofc, these mobs could appear in packs, or add during a boss-fight or fight versus another group of mobs. If they come as a pack, they’ll always try to target different players.

Got a real non-anecdotal evidence for you. Bloody Victoria – No Feline/IP Dagger Thief Solo by rfdarko [DnT].
Have fun!
Edit to remind you that Bloody Victoria’s backstab can one-shot a zerk ele.
