Sometimes all you need in a group play is a bit of empathy. If you’re good enough to be elitist, hadn’t you better off solo or duo or running with your guildies/friends. I ran across this leet couple, who in the process of a mere Arah p1, kicked a total of 4 poor pugs. Reasons? Accidental pull trash, can’t skip, etc etc. These were some sneers my friend and I exchanged during the run. Not gonna censor anything. I wish I had screenshot my friend’s ragequit at the end. It was funny as hell.
By the ways, next time you make a mistake, please don’t hesitate to tell your group that Your fps drops/It’s too laggy/My skills bug, Anet fix please!/This game (boss/rng) is kitten. It’s totally not the matter of your poor play or misclick (screw you skillclickerz!). People will surely understand. Been there, done that! /sarcasm

- What is the first thing that comes to mind when you’re about to face a Mesmer?
- Track the position of the mesmer going in and out of stealth. What are his phantasms? If Duelists, kill asap. If Berserker, dodge when the mesmer raises his arm and prepare stability when gap closing. If Swordman, be prepared to cleanse or evade when the mesmer immobilize me.
- How do you feel about your odds of winning?
- 50:50. If it’s a condi mesmer on a capped node, I would ping for help before the fight gets worse.
- Strategies and tactics?
- Condi and Pressure. Keep the burning up. Keep the protection up. Use Ring of Earth and Magnetic Grasp before swapping out from earth. Spam Lightning Whip to heal when they go in stealth. Try to dodge in Fire and Air as often as possible. Try to predict and dodge his Boon strip. Stun break when he shatters. Use LoS often. Don’t get kited or CC’d too much.
- Which type of Ele build do you feel best fights Mesmer?
- I play d/d and staff, but never use staff in 1v1 against the mesmer.
- What Ele skills (weapon or utility) are most important to have in this fight?
- Save all cantrips as a last resort to disengage. Keeping up the might stacking rotation is also very important.
- How do you feel about Mesmer in general?
- They are a threat in group fight. They can hide behind bunkers to deal big damage and strip your boons. They should be focused, or covered if they’re on your side.

Thank you very much x)

So, I was thinking I should probably find a dungeon/fractal guild as I started playing a bit more often. Any suggestions? I’m not serious enough (or skilled enough yet
) to go for one of those big time guilds but looking for something a bit more casual, not PHIW casual but just casual casual.
I’m having fun in [ARES], they’re strong in dungeons but don’t have a lot of fractalers. They also have a pretty dedicated pvp crowd.
\o/
I see you joined…still need SE p2?
I did!
And no, hehe, I PUGed it the other day, it was an interesting experience, Water camping staff Ele, 2 thieves who didn’t stealth, good times
Got it done though. I am now a dungeon master!
And Iris, you know I’m down (and Minigrump too), though I’m not great, still learning all the tricks in fractals. I really wish some of the bosses were larger, so hard to see if mai trin is shooting or spinning, if anyone has tips on how to figure that out while she’s surrounded by fire/explosions?
This? x)
On the serious side, my trick is to always stay at her side or back, roughly within 600 range and… count for the CD. She will almost always spin after her pistol teleport shot. That or 2-3 sec later. I use speed signet to run out of the fire aoe so that i won’t waste my dodge.

1. This is what I have for my ascended medium set. It goes pretty well with my ranger sylvari, thief human and engi asura. Looks a bit edgy on everything else but engi as it’s more futuristic look. The glorious chest is actually the current engi pvp meta as well.
2. My engi actually prefers a bit of girly power here.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
You can swap between them like you can swap traits. Theres no reason to create 2 of the same class.
How many necros do you have?
I just want an excuse to finally have a male for my harem. And so that I don’t have to swap stat/build/gear too much in PvP x)
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
My third ele is a handsome dude named Fabianderkes.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
You have the trait that gives you one stack of might while swapping to Fire attunement as well.
Or that video was from before the patch.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Look at Zelyhn’s guide. It’s the best survival build without tanking the damage.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Human. Because their racial skill is really good in PvE. And Gods gave human Magic, wowza!
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Reaper of Grenth is really OP for ele, especially if you have a human one. Imagine some of the hardest bosses in the game. Grawl shaman? Chill him while he is in his bubble form and you can even solo the shield. Mai Trin? Chill and poison her so you can always backpedal and max melee attack her. (The kitten has increased walking speed, btw). Lupicus? A timely chill can put his annoying AoE spray on a longer CD, more breathing room for you, less dodge required.
I guess it’s too OP to use in PvP x) (It’s a joke, I know it’s a racial skill)

Tornado sees much lesser use than other elites but it’s not entirely useless.
When I duo Q with friends who experiment on squishy builds and when they do not ask for FGS, I take Tornado. It’s surprisingly good to deny enemy res, against decapping thief and as an emergency skill to quickly res your ally. The bonus stat/ HP is a blessing, but if I get spammed with condi, I’ll get down very fast. But it’s not a bad skill.
In the Aetherblade fractal, team usually stacks in a corner to cleave the vet and the golems. If the group doesn’t have enough stability, you are guaranteed to be pulled off the safe ledge and take damage from the low laser beam. I see a splendid use there with Tornado. Not only it gives you enough stability to stay safe, you can constantly CC the mobs into the corner so your group has an easy time to cleave them. What’s more? You can spam blind to them like crazy and nullify most of their confusion attack. Score! Last time I tried this out, not a single noob in my level 49 pug got down and that was a really pleasant surprise.

Hey, I can help you with the instance. When will you be available?
I’m thinking of trying again tomorrow after 1300 hrs PST. That’s a grand offer! Thanks much!
I find that the instance owner always takes the aggro of the boss and tanks all the CC. So, party members always have much easier time just to dodge the bomb blossom and the rock. I can always open the instance and help you through.
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
It isn’t griefing if they needed to replace the weakest link to finish the dungeon, you are just not good enough ( for level 8 ).
p.s. you should run at least a lv 10 to raise your personal level, 8 would do nothing for you.
Wow, dat irony doe. Can you be more condescending to say that someone is not good enough so that they deserve to be kicked at the last fractal but at the same time preach that they should do a higher level instead???
Is it some new way of victim blaming?

My group of friends always need 1 or 2 more for fractal 50, usually around reset time or a bit later
@deSade: Speculation says guard will have long bow and ele will have sword. One thing I’ve concerned about is once you go into specialization, you lose most of your original profession- based skills/traits (to earn the new one). That’s why I made two eles

Sylvari here. I’ve been using mostly humans up to this point but I’ve recently decided that they’re sort of boring and usually look fat in heavy armor. I sort of wish this anet that goes back on it’s word will also look into race changers so I can make my human necro a sylvari.
This is my planned look for my revenant (with more exciting colors of course) if I’m still playing when the expansion comes out and you can see why I’m starting to like Sylvari:
Very good looking character!
I would probably make a female charr Revenant. I play charr very little that I start to concern about it.

What’s about the effect on D/F? I’m a bit sad about the nerf in Burning Drake tho. It’s my ranger killing move :’(
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
@ Xialoh’s more sustain build… Retrait the 2 points of water into earth for stone splinters… is a perma +10% dmg buff since u’ll always be in melee range with D/X. The Water-trait isn’t always up^^
Yup yup, I originally wanted to use Stone Splinters for dmg modifiers but Healing Mist provides a good sustain against condi opponents like destroyers (burning), kraits (bleeding), hyleks (poison darts). Edit: Can always put in Water V if the mobs can crit you.
@OP: I used d/d for “funsie” during those times when I know I could kill mobs fast (with just muscle reflex), usually in sub 80 maps. D/D has good mobility and rapid CC against a group of mobs. Burning speed and might blasting is a big enough burst and Lightning Whip can give you sustainable dps against Veteran. You could use d/d in Silverwaste too, but you will have to be careful when picking the enemy and minding your position. I always resort to staff there because I’m lazy and I like my extra dodge and big numbers. An extra bonus of staff is its CC works really well against “jumpy” mobs like Mordrem Wolf, Tegariff and Hyena.

That’s the standard fractal hammer build, you should 100% keep your zerker gear. If you have difficulty, GS is not that necessary here. It won’t increase you dmg like with GS+Sw/F. Hammer is able to do good dmg by it self.
Since you don’t play with a guild, but with pugs, you could replace GS by Scepter/Focus for a bit more survivability. When kitten hit the fan at some harder boss like Archdiviner or May Trin, you can range them, rez the pugs, get back your hp, etc before you get back in melee. That’s give you a OMG option, when things don’t go as well. Take Skale Venom with you, they give Weakness to the boss to scale down a bit the incoming dmg. Work best when more than one in the team use it, but it will help. Something that will help even more, but not everybody want to do it, is using different slaying potion at different fractal. Not only it give you 10% dmg, but it decrease incoming dmg by 10% too. Like outlaw potion in Cliffside or Scarlet potion for Mai Trin.
You are absolutely right, but please don’t throw kitten at the fan
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
Remember that you can get an extra blast in your firefield by using earth 5 and cancel it right away (by moving left and right). Your earth 5 skill will only have a cooldown of a few seconds.
You get an “Aura Might” pop-up, but the blast itself doesn’t happen if you don’t finish the cast.
^ This.
