Gold sellers: New tactics?

If people are hacking accounts wouldn’t you think this is more of a security concern for the company? If the economy was balanced then sure keeping it in house makes perfect sense. But when new people joining the game needs to buy gems to turn to gold to remain competitive or get that look they want the only real way to do it is buy the gems or prepare for years of farming. It would just seem to me that Gold Sellers are really saying that if the system was balanced people wouldn’t need the services to begin with. We need to look at why people are using Gold Sellers to begin with not what it does after.

but the question you raised hasn’t anything to do with anets security policy or the balance of the economy. you asked for proof, they gave you proof. Now youre just deflecting the issue.

No, but the quartz crystal node does give those quartz crystals, which are essential for precursor crafting and a lot of armor insignia (celestial, etc.) My point was just that (as the OP stated), it would be nice if it would rely on map currency rather than gold and that Roundabout’s statement that it was dirt cheap isn’t necessarily true for all players.

Well I guess both are a means to an “Ascended” end. Just one that needs crafting, a time gate if you will… and one a currency gate.

The bloodstone gets you account bound best of stats/slot items that has the ability to be changed up, like a legendary, at very little cost.

Agreed.

From a balance perspective you also need to consider how the Quartz and Bloodstone nodes lead to the ascended items. Quartz/Celestial is still gated behind level 500 crafting and the Charged Quatrz, whereas Blood Rubies are a currency to directly buy the items… no other gates/restrictions imposed.

And seeing that the blood ruby items can have any ascended PvE stat, and can be stat swapped… it is a much more powerful currency that every other harvest node.

and this right here makes the point of uneccessary time gates on charged quartz items/recipes…. same can be said for mystic coins etc…. we have an easy source to obtain what they make… so why time gate them?

I don’t own a share in the amusement park every time I pay to go there … I pay for access to the rides. Same thing.

If you happen to pay for a ride, and then amusement park staff tell you that sorry, that ride got cancelled, they’d better return you the money for the ticket. Same thing.

That comparison is not relevant in this situation … you do NOT pay for access every time you log in to the game like you do the park.

your right… instead you bought a lifetime pass and then were told the rides you bought the pass to ride for, are no longer being used… totally not relevant….

Bags are unaffected by Magic find…. so all loot must now come in a bag so you dont actually get a better chance at what you want. they want to give you a sensation of progressing towards something while just giving you nothing. So no, bags are here to stay and will consume your time opening them, making that magic find even less effective.

just a quick question here, how do we determine if someone is sending us gold that was purchased from a gold sellers site? its not like we have a transactional history showing where his/her money came from. Of course we could just ask them… and they could just lie about it and say it wasn’t from a site? I do JP ports and AB map commands often, and regularly get tips for it. Does this mean that my account is in Jeopardy if someone sends me a tip with gold bought from a site?

There is plenty of reason to increase supply. 82 of them as someone mentioned earlier… I happen to believe its more then that as there are numerous food/consumable recipes that take these as well. The problem is that they tie in with legendaries. As i said before, these are obtainable at about the same rate of T6 mats droprates, so it doesnt make sense to keep them that rare.

The cost is not a good reason. Neither is the recipes they are used in. If people can’t get past the FACT that the TP is driven by supply and demand and make suggestions that are inline with that philosophy, you are wasting your time. Price reflects all that, so the idea that the price is ‘wrong’ and demand needs to change makes little sense. We also know Anet monitors all these things and will adjust if they think it needs to be.

but you cant farm it yourself. i cant sell laurels on the tp.

Thread isn’t about laurels so …

you misunderstand my post. I wasnt complaining about the cost on the tp, but rather the rarity of them being aquired. I completely understand supply/demand economics. but Anet has their hand on the throttle of how much of these enter the game. They dont need to be so tightly regulated as their value is directly tied to legendaries… which are hugely gated by T6 mats, which happened to be aquired in very similar amounts and timeframe as MC’s. Thats why I said they need to be less rare, as a timegate is already in place in the form of T6 mats.

So you think Anet should open the flow a little more because there is already a timegate in place for T6 mats on Legendaries? I have to disagree with that because if you just buy them on the TP, the timegate for both is zero. Again, the primary approach to getting these mats is not to earn them yourself, it’s to use the TP.

See the problem is that there is no inbalance … everyone gets coins but not everyone uses them. Some of those sell them at prices people are willing to pay and it is in sufficient quatity because their are always a reasonable amount on the TP to buy. If there was absolutely NO mystic coins on the TP, then people could have a reason to complain about the lack of coins.

But don’t you see? You can buy BOTH. Theres no need to have a gate when they are purchasable. We have seen an 800% increase in price simply due to anet increasing its use by 100% on one item. I understand the market and how it moves and changes, and I’m ok with the market naturally making those shifts. But this is different as its a direct artificial manipulation by anet.

For my understanding Primordus has never appeared before (correct me if I’m wrong so I can learn) Soooo we don’t even know if he is actually evil.

If he is the most powerful of the current active dragons, yet he decided to remain underground all this years, maybe he is trying to maintain the balance we are constantly destroying. Maybe we are harming the world, maybe we are the bad guys.

All the Dragons have appeared before in previous cycles. Primordus is probably the most well known if anything since it remains the only Dragon known about from the previous rise, due to his minions’ direct battle with the Dwarves. He has been underground all these years since that is his “domain”. He was encountered there in GW1 and that was where he went to rest thousands of years ago.

In GW1 it’s minions sought to destroy the World and awaken their master. I don’t think Primordus has good intentions in as far as the rest of the World is concerned.

Whether he is the most powerful is up for debate. Certainly he has been awake for longer so potentially has absorbed more magic.
Interestingly enough, unless the absorption of magic has radically increased his size, Primordus is a relatively small Elder Dragon based on his appearance in GW1.

Theres a big problem with that theory tho…. if primordus has indeed been awake and gathering more magic than any other that we have faced, why didn’t taimi’s map showing the magic concentrations blow up like the sun on primordus’s location?

I understand they want the map to be epic in scale and grandiose in its glorious fighting!!! we want that too, but the current state of DS is neither of those.

I happen to agree with the OP on this. While there may be other ways in which the Mystic coins drop, to me it just seems uneccessarily uncommon. I understand Anets stance and all that, but to me it seems they have made everything that involves these coins so stupidly rare/hard to make, that it just seems wrong. I mean, we have to loot t6 mats, 250 of each type. those are as hard to get as the mystic coins are in drop rates… I understand the need for things to be rare, but with ability to get the same amount of t6 as the mystic coins, it just seems like this is one thing they can ease up on is all. I mean, there are literally hundreds of items that require these in their recipe’s. I think doubling the current drop rate of these would make it so some of these things were a tad easier to obtain… not to mention it would promote the use of other mats needed in those recipes, removing overstocked items from the game.

I’m not doubting your truthfulness of the issue at hand. Please feel free to post those pictures as at the least, it will offer proof to the development team that there is indeed an issue that spans all players who own them. it would likely further help get it resolved as your images may prove that it might be an issue with individual player PC builds/cards i.e. nvidia cards have a problem where as radeon cards may not. Truly!
And what do you need for most of the achievements and collections? LOTS of GOLD!

“Most”? No, I have to disagree with that. I think “most” of them don’t require gold. Many rely simply on repetition, luck, or skill.

well, TBH, all the easy quick achievements that you can get don’t require much or any gold, but once the easily completed ones are done, it becomes a massive gold sink, unless you are willing to wait on RNGesus (been 4 years still haven’t come across some from looting) to drop all them exotics for example… you know the ones… the multiple 300g+ ones for 1 simple achievement? mhmm…..

The problem here is there is no middle level. You either knock them out fast and easy, or you have to wait months on end to get the remaining done. And spreading yourself across pvp wvw, raids, pve fractals is so time consuming as well. you hit a wall on achievements around 13-14k points. Meaning that once you hit around that level, all achievement gains are like 10-15 a day from then on out cuz they take so kitten long to get done at that point.

Money is easy here…
1 Do AB meta (salvage all, sell mats)
2 in-between do daily fracs (salvage all, sell ectos and encryption boxes etc)
3 repeat AB meta (salvage all, sell mats)
4 do more fracs till dailys done. (salvage all, sell ectos and encryption boxes etc)
5 do AB meta again (salvage all, sell mats)
6 in-between harvest rich nodes, sell all mats gained.
7 do AB meta again (salvage all, sell mats)
8 in-between craft ascended mats to sell.

if you do it right, in 6 hours(doesn’t have to be consecutive time) you can easily make 70-80 gold… after a month, you got enuff to buy any precursor/legendary (minus eternity of course) you want.

Current Events always fail

Another thing I see is the differences between the north and south flinnz/keadin events. What I mean by this is, when all 3 are together for the ley energy collection phase, in the southern event, flinnz is much much further away to the inquest scientist than Keadin is. yet people pull the coal towards keadin, which makes it pop more ley energy closer to the scientist, which inturn makes for a very difficult time in keeping the golems at bay.

Now exactly the opposite is true up north. Keadin is further away then flinnz. You need to runn the ley energy to the flinnz in the southern event and to keadin in the northern event. otherwise they fail, big group or small group. The further you take the ley energy from the inquest scientist, the better you can offset the golems and their efficiency. Ive seen a lot of commanders not grasp this concept and fight me on who to pull the energy to. at EVERY time that happens, we end up failing.

Doesn’t need a fix, since it’s not broken.
The reason it needs crystalline ore is to make it artificially rarer, so that not everyone is running around with it.

It really only needs one (successful) run of dragon’s stand to get the 40 crystalline ore though.

There’s 6 noxious pods per camp (when all events done successfully) times 6 camps which is at least 36 crystalline ore.

I will have to disagree, you can make things artificially rare without gating them behind a 2 hour map. And who says a guild item has to be RARE to begin with. Legendarys should be rare…. ascendeds should be rare… simple guild skins do not need to be RARE. You also need a hell of a lot more then 40 ore to get a full set of the skins. it takes 40 per piece…. x6 =240 crystalline ore per set. Also consider theres 3 sets so you need 720 crystalline ore for all 3 sets. Then theres each of the weapons… which have a shimmer and a tenebrous skin, so take all those times 2 and you can see you are gonna need to spend a few months in DS to get all the skins you want. that’s IF you have a solid 8-12 hours of play time per day….

edit: and if the events are successful…. we still get fail maps.

the dyes are still a waste for all of us who have every dye. even if we held off buying new dyes, if you have more then a few characters, then they become obsolete anyways. with a good majority of people having more then 5-10 toons, they have to know that this would cause issues again. They need to make these useable by allowing them to select future dyes, and still keep them account bound.

This may be a slight derail, but something strikes me on the “taking credit” argument. I have not seen a single complaint that Faren’s taking our credit for training with Bongo, even though all the dialogue is written as if he’s one-on-one with Bongo while the nobles cheer. Our zerg (or small handful) of PC’s is there to advance the mechanics of the fight but we are simply representing Faren’s actions.

I’m fine with this, I don’t mind being subsumed into the story as a mechanic so I can see it advance without being the hero. Which might be why I have never felt upstaged by Trahearne. I also appreciate calm rationality so he never felt unemotional to me, just cool and collected. I didn’t want him to die and it seemed obvious to me he was ended as he was to please the anti-Trahearne voices while letting him at least make the heroic choice to accept death rather than life at the cost of the world. But why do the people who vehemently feel Trahearne was a dull stick who got all the credit not kvetch about us turning into Faren’s fighting skill in Bongo’s Hideaway?

we dont vex him, cuz its one event lasting 5 minutes. its not a life long story occurrence as in the case with trehearne. everyone knows Faren is a Grandiose dork thats full of himself. He was also not in a position or command over us or the storyline.

It’s not like his death was anything to bark about as the Sylvari did commit treeson. Fortunately Mordremoth’s death was a releaf for everyone.

Not something to bark about? The marshal of the Pact was killed. And about the Sylvari committing “treeson,” did you miss the part about Mordremoth taking over their minds? The weak were vulnerable to his power; and you must remember that it wasn’t just Sylvari who heard his call. It was every race. And the final thing you must remember is that Trahearne, even in the end, had strength; could you have opened a path into the jungle dragon’s mind while it had its roots in your body and mind?

Trahearne was our Marshal, and he deserves that respect at least. I’m just miffed that even ANET didn’t give him honor in-game. We mourned for Eir, carved her a statue, which she thoroughly deserved. But Trahearne? The marshal got nothing, just a mention of his death.

There are parts of this i wont argue because they arent worth it, but this one… the fact that it all boils down to trehearne saving the day in the end is just complete and utter Bunk… Who found his kitten in the middle of all that kitten to begin with hmm? who was he gonna open that portal for? who went thru that entire story lookin for his kitten hmm? Was he gonna grab that sword and shove it in his own heart? could he have stopped mordys mind if WE hadnt shown up? cuz he sure as hell wasnt gonna walk his own kitten outa there….

You can love and adore him all you want, butthey guy was one total walking cluster kitten of a character. Yes he did a few things to make the story go, but he was in no way qualified to be a leader. He did what he was meant to do, and that was to die HELPING US kill mordy. Im not knocking his role, it had its place, but there is no way he was the reason for EVERYTHING being saved as people are making it out to look like.

snip…

No. It does mean something, because we just asume that we will do it (thats why it is a possibility).

I also highlighted several other possibilities, because the story can still go into another direction.

We don’t know where the story goes, thus calling us that way would make it a self fullfilling prophecy, if the reasoning is based upon us watching the egg/emerging dragon.

It would be nice, if you read further than just the things you need to proove your point and put them in the right context, since I clearly explained what was meant by that.

ok, yes in the most infintesmal literal way of things yes they do matter. but only for the sake of argument that anet could just write in whatever the heck they want without regard to the current storyline/plot. But thats like saying you are on a hill, and you drop a ball, and it wont roll down hill. maybe the story could go another way, but i would seriously doubt it (0.00002% chance maybe… if your lucky). I did read what you wrote and i understand it. What I dont understand is how you still think its a GoT name, but ive told you how our entire story revolves around dragons. As in EVERY single story leads to us killing dragons. they could have named this Dragon Wars 2 for cryin out loud. I just dont see how you can think there is no tie/connection to the name when our clear focus ofthe game is to kill dragons?!

Yea, anninke, as i mentioned earlier poor writing on Anets part is to blame here, I dont think they thought it through tbh, maybe they did and im just not seeing eye to eye with them on it, i dunno. But i think the scenario came down to this. They had 2 choices to invest in. Giving a good send off to T and cheapening the advancement of the plot, or advancing the story by continuing with E. There are just so many what ifs and maybe this way… that i think they just grabbed what sounded best at the time and ran with it. In the end, only Anet knows why they did what they did, all im sayin is I can see a pathway why. I did mention I felt it would be ok to do a memorial as long as it didnt take away from the resources invested in the LS3 content.

The only importance sylvari factors in, is that it is the weakest army of the races. made even less so when 2/3 of its forces suddenly swap sides. and the formation of the pact is prophecied by its leader, who also is under the influence of mordy.

I perceive trehearne as being weak by his inability to make decisions, his inability to fight his own fights, his inability to secure his own wyld hunt, his constant doomsaying, his inexperience in leading a multi national force, and while this may not have any real storyline consequences, his inability to move thru a story mission without me having to run back to either retrive him from some twig he is stuck on in the terrain, or rez him from a branch breaking his toe…. Its not just from a storyline perspective, its the overall problems in general that add to it.

yea it was alot of poor writing, but thats my point, and thats why alot of people dont like him, including myself. I dont knock people who do like him, everyones entitled to what they like or dislike, but when we have a community that largely finds him un popular, you gotta accept that people arent gonna cry over spilled milk with him. As it takes alot of resources to make these cutscenes and animations and story sidelines, its just not prudent for anet to invest alot of time into a character that is not going to give any positive return to the situation, or further the story line. As I have said before, Eir gets a pass as she has not been interjected into the story like T has. Also she has back story and ties with braham who has featured along side us just as long as T has, just in a more, less impossing and forced manner.

yet more proof certain accounts are “luckier” then others…. Well, if you have this “problem”….. you should save a few for salvaging for the new legendary armors and such that will be comming out in the near future.

I have gotten 0 from natural drops. I have made 2 in the mystic forge. I have purchased many after that from the BLTC, as after 4 years of playing this game, I know its faster to grind the money then to wait on a rigged RNG game that favors certain accounts.

How about Trahearne's memorial?

lol ok, flame if you must! yes there is a lot behind the story that is involved in leadership but consider that the vigil, whisperers, and priory and any other race already has generals in place to command their forces and resources. basically what trehearne is tenamount to is a U.N. strike force commander he helps facilitate communications between nations etc etc…

To me that’s like saying we will use 90% of Americas forces to ground and air combat a war, and call the victory for the U.N. yes the U.N. probly helped coordinate and centralize things, but they are by no means the cause of victory. troops of whatever country you send in are the victors, as are their respective commanders. they fought the fight and implemented all the strategy and resources.

But here you don’t have 90 % of one force, it’s more like equal thirds at the beginning at least, so the cooperation takes far more effort to actually work. Had there be 90 % Vigil forces, then Almorra would become leader and even a possibility of anyone else wouldn’t as much as cross her mind. And others would probably agree, although not happily.

And (beware, BIG THOUGHT coming…) if Trahearne were a strong, self-reliant leader or the Pact had someone else in that position, there would be no need of you, the second in command, the Pact Commander. You’re there to compensate for Trahearnes shorcomings. I dare say he does not show his doubts to anyone but the PC, so he’s probably not considered a weak leader by a majority of the Pact.

Let’s say Trahearne and the PC are much like Frodo and Sam (without it being clear which is which… hope it’s understandable, I’m not sure how to write it quite right). They need one another to get the job done. Or at least Trahearne needs you, which is definitely better than the other way around

Whether its equal thirds or 90% of one, the principle is no different. Sylvari made up less then 20% of the pact force, and even less after mordy decided to make it real.(i know the mordy thing had little impact as it was after the fact, but still…) I also disagree with having to make up for trehearnes shortcommings. It is not my responsibility to babysit a superior officer. not even third world countries would tolerate that.

I also think it wrong that trehearne being a strong leader would negate our need. quite the opposite is true, as said before, he is stuck in the office and still needs people to do important missions that he cannot do. the matter under discussion is respect at this point.

I do understand what you are trying to say about sam and frodo, but there is one component seriously lacking in that department… the fact those two loved each other as friends before they were burdened with the great journey. They werent forced on each other as strangers.

For the biggest majority of us, its not the fact that he was named leader and we weren’t. And as for the logistics side of things, yes, someone other then the character should be made leader. The biggest qualm about this is the fact he was a poorly written leader. He is perceived as being weak, unable to make decisions, and a worrisome bother in his vocal skills with his constant whinning of “this wont end well…”, not to mention our choice was forced on us to vote for him as the leader (there was literally no other option then to be railroaded in this direction). Leaders aren’t like trehearne. When it comes to this situation this is how it comes off to us… Some tree in a forrest had a vision one day of greatness for another of its tree folk. despite thousands of other qualified candidates that are well more respected, time tested, and proven capable, the entirty of tyria just said “hey, you know what? fug it, well go with that tree thing over there and hope for the best. who cares if we have entire multi national army with generals to pick from… we want that boy over there…yes.. the one with the pointy ears…with no combat experience… and ponty ears…. or leadership experience…. did we mention the ears? ok good… cuz that’s important to us!”

The problem of all the experienced generals was belonging to one of the orders. So Trahearne was probably not the best option strategically-wise but was the only one plausible for political reasons. Plus he had expert knowledge on Orr, good for the
Orders’ reps, because they don’t look so much as a bunch of kids unable to agree on anyone else… I won’t comment on pointy ears fetish, it’s unproven for all of the big heads involved.

“This won’t end well” – What if he’s just being a bit morbid (and enjoying it secretly), you know, a necromancer…

And yes, unsensitive railroading sucks big time.

Well, tbh, any member of destiny’s edge could have fulfilled that role as pact leader. We didnt have to make trehearne the leader just cuz of his knowledge of Orr. (I have a great knowledge of computers that has made me invaluable to several companies, but i am not in charge of those companies…) He could have fulfilled that role as an advisor. As mentioned above, we have done all of trehearnes heavy lifting to make him great. He needed to make more of an effort to fulfuill his wyld hunt, not rely on us to do it for him.

last but not least, i am tired of sylvari prominently featuring in my story. I wouldnt like it if it was constantly asura, norn, or charr or human either. There is enuff room to go around, lets spread things out shall we?

there has been no official word on, so we can only speculate. but I would assume since it is an instance based event, that it would be grandfathered in under the same rule. But this is purely speculation on my part.

It was in fractals…. unless you were breaking a rule or being abusive in chat, you could be reported for kicking people out of a fractal at the end just so your friends could come in for the chest… used to happen a lot actually.
