I actually think new stuff to spend dungeon tokens on would make a helluva difference.
they could tack on free legendaries at the end of a path and they’ll still be the same boring **** people have been doing the past 3 years.
Fundamentally, everything in PVE becomes stale after about a week. AI is limited and MMO game play just isn’t that engaging. The fun really comes from the social aspect and a sense of progression.
Tacking a new shiny on the end of outdated content won’t make it less boring. Maybe it if it was a reward for a special gambit or challenge (kill all optional bosses, no defeated players, etc.), but honestly that would just be a bandaid for the fact that we haven’t had any new instanced 5-man content for nearly a year and a half.
I actually think new stuff to spend dungeon tokens on would make a helluva difference. Maybe some dungeon themed back item skins and a chance for unique weapons to drop. Wouldn’t even need to be anything new. A straight-up recolour and some particle effects can go a long way.
The dungeon collection rewards a step in the right direction, but the trinkets should have offered a choice of the same stats of each dungeon’s gear.
Also, if GW2 took something that WoW does with dungeons by having random rare enemies show up that have a chance of dropping a particular collection item or something would also be nice.
This would be cool, especially if they randomly spawn like the AC troll, or wander the dungeon like the guild bounty champs.
Yeah, straight guy here. Also got a 50/50 mix in my characters as well.
When I roll alts, I’ve usually got a very specific character look in mind and I just go with that. This decision is sometimes influenced by which gender’s armour or outfits will work best with the look as well. Sometimes I switch things up when I get bored. E.g. I made a male Sylvari necro and later gave him a sex change because I liked the female light armours better. Purely cosmetic.
Sometimes when I’m goofing off in dungeons or PvP on one of my female alt I say stuff to people like ‘Oooh, love that hair girlfriend!’. Always a hoot.
Luck should never have been an item, the bar should just fill up automatically as we salvage.
Clearly there’s been some industry research that links mouse clicks with player satisfaction or something. That’s the most rational explanation for some of this game’s design (essences luck, excess junk to salvage, ‘nesting doll’ type chests).
The party kick cooldown is a terrible idea. Basically that would just cause players to accept members who aren’t a good fit, or continually break and reform their parties.
We suggested a filtered LFG before it was even implemented, back when you had to use a 3rd party website to PUG (and believe me, those were some good days). Either way – didn’t happen then, won’t happen now. Dungeons have decreased in popularity quite a lot, even if we did get filtering options it’d most likely result in a lot of empty search results.
Honestly, I’m with the OP on this. CC mobs are annoying as hell. None of them are even really a threat, and feel like much more of a nuisance than an enemy.
They’re easy enough to deal with, but not particularly fun.
I don’t want to dismiss this issue at all, and as one of the many unfortunates who’s never seen a precursor drop I’d love any excuse to get more consistent high-end loot, but I have one issue with this thread. Many people are arguing for the implementation of a token system, so that even if random drops don’t favor you, you can eventually trade tokens for that skin you’ve got your eye on. My question is, isn’t that more or less what gold is? We all earn currency by playing, and if we play enough we can use that currency to purchase the item we want from the TP.
The problem with skins and the BLTC in general is that the market is too volatile, and prices tend to increase over time. Reward tracks offer more stable progress towards goals.
I hope they will put in some kind of reward track in wvw….
I hope we get reward tracks for everything! Seriously, my best loot ever was from reward tracks and PvP rank up chests.
You know, I don’t even like the idea of comparing time. I don’t think rewards should look like that, ever – any system that benefits based on time investment just benefits a long-time player. I think rewards should scale with the content – somebody who does a level 50 Fractal should get much better rewards than someone who runs AC p123. But as it stands, there’s barely a nickel’s worth of difference between the two – because RNG is RNG and it’s so geared towards carebears that there’s literally not a single good reason to maximize your performance.
Incidentally, we do get quite a few time-based rewards from just logging in and the laurel vendor. Laurels are nothing more than a measure of the frequency of your game play.
Fractals, man….could not agree more about ’em.
You’ll see a few positive comments when we get new content. Pretty much everyone loved the Balthazar outfit, for example.
Beyond that most people come here for general discussion, suggestions and complaints. As a result, there’s a fair bit more negativity. It’s human nature. We get used to good things pretty easily and eventually barely notice them, while annoyances stay on our mental radar quite a bit longer or even become magnified over time.
Or in other words : Dungeon are no fun .. its only the reward.
Some things are conditional. Dungeons can be fun, but much more so if there’s a prize. In the same way that beer is more enjoyable when chilled.
Kill things, collect loot. It’s the cornerstone of the RPG experience.
Well, we’re not meant to earn rewards, they would prefer if we bought them from the gem store.
There was one occasion when the game did reward high skill, and regular players went bananas. Remember that fuss over the Liadri mini and title?
Pretty much every reward system is going to rustle someone’s jimmies, so Anet took the safe route and made it terrible for pretty much everyone. Lol.
Trying to reserve judgement until it goes live, but I have no interest whatsoever in re-learning the game or adapting to any changes to the trait or skill system. My bottom line is whether it’ll make stuff significantly more difficult to kill. Hoping this isn’t the case.
What exactly is the end game content, and how do all you find it fun? Because farming for gear when it’s acquisition won’t be noticeable in these large end game events really makes me think twice about finding gw2 exciting
There’s two main types of endgame goals – cosmetic progression and a grind for ascended. Legendary weapons are the one area of overlap between the two.
Cosmetics by far make up the bulk of endgame content. This includes hairstyles and faces, armour and weapon skins as well as titles. If you don’t enjoy this kind of thing, you’re going to have a bad time. Ascended gear is the more traditional sort of endgame grind, but it’s optional. Loads and loads of time and effort for a negligible stat increase. Only absolutely necessary for fractals.
And of course there’s a variety of activities to take part in while pursuing these goals:
- Dungeons, fractals, guild missions and open world farming in PvE.
- sPvP and WvW for the more competitive types.
It’s unfortunate that we’ve had so much effort go into producing temporary or once-and-done type story content rather than more traditional endgame stuff with greater replay value.
- New armour skins. New weapon skins that aren’t BLTC.
- New Dungeons (Branded and Fleshreaver/Demon themes would be cool) and appropriately themed gear.
- More Deathmatch maps for PvP.
- Build saving options for both traits and equipment (armour, weapons and trinkets).
- Suitably challenging content that rewards ascended gear, or at least a re-work of the chests so that we can choose stats as well.
(edited by Jahroots.6791)
So you’re telling me you want to remove a useful stat and replace it with a less useful one?
I’ve crafted 54 ascended weapons. I have no interest in crafting the armor as I don’t believe it’s worth it and I still feel that if I get one of the rarest drops in the game, it should be worth more to me than a one gold pearl exotic with stats I have no use for. At least I can salvage the exotic.
Exactly. I can do without the extra 5 – 10% stat increase that armour provides. Weapons offer a tangible increase in damage and are affordable to craft. I can think of far more interesting things to do with 300+ gold than craft an armour set.
It’s disappointing that one of the least common endgame drops can be essentially worthless. God knows there’s so little of value in loot tables as is. It is not unreasonable to expect a choice of item type and stats from the chest.
Yeah, the vast majority of ascended items I’ve gotten are functionally worthless for my characters.
We really ought to be able to choose the stats we want.
Another do-over of my Necro (v 3.02) and Ele (v 2.0)
Necro – PvP Glorious crown, Mantle of the Lich, Shadow garb and gloves, Carapace leggings and Primitive footwraps. Godskull weapons.
Ele – Storm eye, Orchid shoulders and boots, Nightmare Court vestments and gloves (hidden), Carapace leggings. Nightmare weapons.
Wait what? How is expense brought into it when you can farm all the mats for free….? You even get a free vision crystal from a few achievements, you also get ascended mats from the loyalty chest at the end of the month. There is Silverwastes where ascended mats drop like rain in Seattle, boss trains that do the same. There are so many avenues in game which you can actually play that provide free mats, but if just sounds like you don’t want to do them. :\
The only mats that can be farmed in a reasonable span of time are those required for the vision crystal. Everything else, especially the damask, will take several weeks of dedicated play to obtain through salvage and gathering. Most people just try to get enough gold to buy what they need, and it is somewhat expensive compared to the other endgame goals.
As always, the economic system is holding most of our rewards hostage. Everything worth having needs to be restricted either to prevent inflation (coin and material drops) or protect ANet’s profits (cosmetics and convenience items).
The PvP reward tracks are probably the best thing to happen to loot in this game in a long time. We definitely need more stuff like that.
If you can’t bother to watch a 10 minute guide on the dungeon run you’re about do to – I can’t bother to carry you through it.
This is my point, they may not even know a guide even exist. Giving a new player tips on game features and/or directing them to helpful sites/videos, is what builds community. Simply yelling “Noob”, isn’t.
His assertion is completely ridiculous, though. It’s great that we have the option to do that, but no one should ever feel like they need to do ‘homework’ before playing a video game.
Silverwastes is in a pretty good place right now. There are multiple instances, some for the chest train and others for VW/events. It isn’t too difficult to use the LFG system to find a map that is to your liking.
You’ve correctly identified the predictors of player behaviour though – If it’s lucrative enough it will be farmed, if it isn’t it will be largely ignored.
Devs have already stated that path selling doesn’t violate any rules (caveat emptor!), and unfortunately Arah is the least PUGable path. Your best bet is to grab some experienced guildies and have a go at it.
So is there any word on this? Anyone still experiencing problems.
I decided to add some minor upgrades to my system, so that my fps at least drops to something playable.
Right now I’m running on an AMD FX 2.81 Ghz , 8GB RAM, Radeon R7 250 1GB GDDR5
Getting between 20 – 50fps on high/med settings. Not ideal, but I can live with it.
Definitely Elementalist. The pros? High DPS and good support in dungeons. Excellent in PvP as well. The downside is that you can only equip one weapon set (so no swapping in combat) and it’s extremely squishy if you spec for DPS.
Necro is good in PvP and fairly mediocre in the rest of the game. Fun to play, but doesn’t pack as much punch as Ele and less desired (unwelcome, in some instances) for dungeons.

The races are in a pretty good place, we just need more options for customization. I would also like to see a few more practical looking hairstyles for humans, maybe some tattoos and battle scarring.
Norn males do have proper options for faces, but their proportions are just too grotesque and ape-like for my tastes. The women are perfect, though.
Ranger is the best all-round profession for open world PvE.
- Longbow does good damage and has the highest attack range. Ranger also has perhaps the greatest variety of weapon types and skills for single and multiple target damage.
- Pets allow you to take on most enemies solo. Hell, you can go afk and they’ll protect you. They’re also very good at reviving from the downed state.
- There’s a sigil for a permanent +25% swiftness as well as offhand Warhorn and an Elite skill that complement it well.
The map being square does not really affect my immersion or enjoyment of the game one way or another.
This.
You’ll hardly notice it while you’re exploring, apart from when you check the map. This approach to design makes map completion a lot simpler, imo.
I’ll take simple square maps over the topsy turvy, counter intuitive messes that are Dry Top and Silverwastes.
Your first solution would pretty much guarantee that if you lose a party member halfway through a run, you’d have a helluva time finding a replacement. Terible idea.
Instance splitting seems like it’d be impractical to implement, but pretty neat. That would only work if the reward remains as is (no scaling), because who’s going to waste time doing a dungeon they won’t get the daily chest from?
Gear and build templates are an excellent idea, we’ve discussed these at length and are holding out hope that this feature will be added …eventually.
I’m completely neutral on the leagues.
Dungeons, I disagree. Zerker is fine. We already have fractals for time consuming dungeon content. The drops are significantly better too. It sounds like you want a form of trinity back, most of us don’t.
For what its worth I actually like the idea of developing dungeons with specific builds in mind, but there’d have to be a significant reward to make them viable, or we’d end up with another Aetherpath on our hands.
TTT.
Bumping for great justice. Still getting FPS issues.
Killing trash sucks. Skipping isn’t particularly fun either. What is fun? Banter with friends. Dungeons are a backdrop for conversation with my friends. Let’s not try to dictate fun for others hmm?
This. The best runs are with lively and fun teams, whether we breeze through effortlessly or wipe during elite encounters.
I’ll take speed over a full clear any day though.
I’ve been having the same problem since the March 31 patch, getting about half my usual fps. Even at the lowest possible graphic settings there’s no improvement.
Ehh, not impressed.
My fps has gone to crap after this patch as well.
- Any build that isn’t based on DPS. I cringe a little when I run with people who’re proud of how ‘tanky’ they are.
- Staff anything other than Ele. Utterly useless on Necro and Mesmer, only marginally necessary for Guardians in a handful of instances.
- Players with static, non-adaptive builds. We all know em – they use ranged weapons in stacks, never swap skills to provide useful support or make skipping easier. Infuriating.
‘The English language is like a brick wall between me and you, and f*** is my chisel.’ – Tommy Tiernan
’There’s no such thing as bad language. I don’t believe that anymore. It’s ridiculous. They call it a debasing of the language. No! We are adults! These are the words that we use to express frustration, rage, anger . . . In order that we don’t pick up a tire iron and beat the s*** out of something!’ – Lewis Black
:D
As a side note…does the in-game swear filter turn cusses into ‘kitten’ like on the forums? Because that would be awesome.
Teen means as young as thirteen. If you wouldn’t walk up to a middle school class on a field trip at the mall and say what you are about to say, you shouldn’t be saying it in map chat, and you are responsible in game for the repercussions that come with that inappropriate behavior just as you would be in public in real life.
IRL, 13yr olds are usually among the worst offenders when it comes to vulgar language.
I can appreciate that some people don’t like this, but I’ll take free, offensive speech over heavy moderation any day.
Meh. It’s a teen rated game, and adolescents are generally pretty vulgar.
Foul and sexual language are okay in my books. We’re old enough to handle it, after all. It’s abuse that shouldn’t be tolerated. Harrassing someone without using indecent language is far worse than the trolls who hang around talking about getting wasted and so on.
Wouldn’t stop entirely, no. It depends on how consistent and varied the rewards are, and what you have to do to get them.
However, If I could hop into Silverwastes or Dry Top at any tier with a rag-tag bunch of fellow players and rake in a solid 1.5 gold plus rares, salvage fodder and RNG goodies, every fifteen to twenty minutes I’d definitely strike the less fun dungeons off my daily rotation. I’m pretty sure if the open world offered better rewards LFG activity would diminish by at least half, and there’d be no one but the occasional curious newbie and hardcore dungeoneers left.
“It’s only a grind if you mind.”
Reminds me of that South Park episode with PewDiePie. I’m a couple of generations removed from streaming, although I can understand the fascination
Makes me think back to the days when only one or two kids in the neighbourhood had a game system, and the others would all crowd around in their living room or at the windows to watch ’em wreck various 8-Bit monstrosities. If you were lucky, you could eve get a turn. Good times.
Direct me to these rewarding loot-pinatas in the open world, for I have never seen them and could do with some extra coin. Unless by ‘rewarding’ you mean to say that a cute little bouncing chest filled with absolute tripe pops up every ten minutes or so.
An hour’s worth of dungeon paths always beats the equivalent in open world farming. Hands down.
For what it’s worth, I take issue with neither casual and unskilled game play nor coordinated and tactical dungeon runs. There’s room for everyone here. The problem is the people who seem clueless about basic human behaviour and are unable to accept differing play styles.
-Clear out the trash mobs. Everyone just runs or bugs past them and they are pointless time sinks.
Trash mobs are mostly fine as they are. Some of them have a bit too much CC and are a pain in the kitten, but they’re a part of the challenge and we have a number of ways of dealing with them.
-Change some of the dynamics of boss fights. I know this is easier said then done, but are we really supposed to settle on stacking in the corner for half of the fights in the game?
Stacking is mostly outdated, PUGS just haven’t bothered to change up their tactics after the FGS nerf. Apart from that, changing boss dynamics would be interesting at first but ultimately have one of two outcomes – players either figure out a simple and efficient way to beat them, or the bosses become frustrating time sinks (the HotW troll is a fine example of this). For every person who wants a proper challenge, there’s ten who’d prefer to stack-n-whack then collect their gold coin and be done with it. I’m not in favour of anything that could discourage people from running dungeons, it’s often hard enough to get a proper group together as it is.
-I know this game is different and relies on movement over health to keep yourself alive, but maybe change some of the dmg output so you aren’t 1-2 shotted.
There’s ways around this. Soldier and Knight gear will enable you to take an extra hit or two. Use these as ‘training wheels’.
-Make the story mode soloable…please
Disagree with this. Dungeons should remain group content. There aren’t enough small-group oriented activities as is.
-Make the paths a little bit clearer…Arah comes to mind.
This is somewhat reasonable, but it’s really a matter of practice and familiarity. Run any path often enough and you’ll know it as well as your own neighbourhood.
The price of skins on TP isn’t set by A.Net, but by players.
At the most basic level this is true. However, ANet controls the accessibility of various items which in turn determines their value, and subsequently the value of gold and gems in general.
I think the possibility of these paths being skippable by running through mobs only leads to bad gameplay and puts a very bad impression on new players. I wonder if the community thinks this is actually an issue that needs to be looked upon in the expansion.
You want to know if the community thinks this is an issue? Friend, the community is the issue.
Please tell us more about how the gw2 dungeon community is such a toxic cesspool, what with all their easily accessible guides, teaching guilds and informative videos.
Yes, the community truly is terrible, just look at how they dare play in a manner which doesn’t please OP, and then fail to bend over when he tells them their way of playing is “bad” and leads to “bad impressions to new players”.
That’s not the meaning I intended to convey at all. The majority of the dungeon community has always valued speed and efficiency over everything else, so I find it amusing that the OP even asks this, when the answer is quite obvious. What he considers to be an issue is something most of us have put a lot of effort into achieving. Hence, the community is the ‘issue’.

God, yes. Way too long. I’ve been trying to farm enough relics to bling out my capacitor but I just haven’t got the stomach for ‘em. Even in good groups I start to get bored by the third. The ’random’ factor and usual time to completion are just too much. If we absolutely have to do four in a row I’d prefer to vote for each subsequent fractal after the first has been rolled. That, or two then the boss.
