That is a false statement Zach, dungeons right now generate the most gold/hour. SW generates the most materials/hour.
Not exactly.
Loads of conditions apply. Dungeons can generate a guaranteed amount of gold/r for skilled, pre-made groups. The average PUG will have some wait times and wipes to slow them down.
SW, if you time your map switching well, gives enough rares, salvage fodder and champ bags to exceed the gold earned by the average dungeon farmer.
Dungeon gold rewards are barely adequate as is. Any significant nerf to them is likely to be bad news. Basically, dungeons will be like PvP before the reward tracks, or worse.
Of course at this point we don’t have much of an idea of how these changes will affect our gameplay, but for a lot of us the daily dungeon tour is the highlight of this game, and we’re gonna miss it.
With no other incentives added, for 20-odd silvers? In a word, no. Even PvP wins have a better pay out, and that doesn’t even factor in the reward tracks.
COE might be fun now and again since there’s a decent chance of getting charged cores and lodestones, but the other dungeons would just seem pointless.

You’re not out money by getting in 3 years early. You’re far far ahead of new people just starting out.
I honestly don’t get these posts.
This. Honestly, the earlier you got into this game the better. By a long shot. Veterans have an overwhelming number of advantages over new players. We got to take advantage of affordable gold→ gem conversion, had easier access to loads of skins and titles (some of which are completely unattainable now), two seasons of Living Story. Beyond all that we had a couple years of decent entertainment. We got our money’s worth.
Mesmer – Mainhand Pistol or Dagger. Some kind of Spellblade/Arcane Thief type of character.
Ranger – Mainhand Dagger. Survivalist. This class could do with some decent melee attacks.
Necro – Sword or Mace mainhand. Would enable transformation into a Death Knight instead of shroud or Lich form.
19. No no no!
20. Luck as a physical item.
21. Contested dungeons
Dungeons and Fractals are in an ok place. What I would add are PvE reward tracks. You complete them by doing hearts and regular events in the open world. Have the mobs scale according to the number of players present (veteran→ elite→ champ and so on). Individual rewards would be determined by your contribution to the event completion.
To be fair, there’s always someone who joins a topic to complain about the complainers. It’s always a question of how many people agree with the info you’ve presented in the post. And of course lots of factors affect that; your use of language, tone, the general ‘mood’ of the forum.. Just happens that in this case the majority think the OP could have dealt with it without making a topic.
I’m neutral. Only ever used that service once, for Arah P4, in order to complete the ‘Dungeon Master’ title. It’s better to have this as an option than not, imo.
Don’t forget your bingo cards.
It’s rare enough to find a group using any food or potions at all, to be honest. Haven’t seen people do this consistently since COF P1 farming.
Most of us have felt or still feel this way. In the parlance of the forum’s white knights, it’s ‘working as intended’. The game is designed to induce us to spend real money, on gem store content or for conversion into gold.
Personally, I feel a little bad for people who value Legendary weapons. They’re hideously gaudy, imo. You can get loads of far better looking BL skins for the same amount of gold.
I don’t understand this post. ALL gem store items are available through in-game grinding…
Too many potentially negative ‘social impacts’ for this to ever see the light of day. But it would be a neat addition, useful for level headed and mature folks.
I’m in agreement with Miku on this. I give him props for showing that Necro is a viable class, but a too much of that video (I only watched the first few minutes) comes off as self-aggrandizing.
Yeah, his review was pretty convincing to be honest. A friend tried to get me into GW2 for a while but that Angry Joe review really sealed the deal. Didn’t quite live up to the hype but I’m glad I joined.
Best outfit ever. You guys have really outdone yourselves on this one.
Making gold fast is fun. Buying nice things is fun.
Replaying predictably scripted instances (even the loot tables are completely static) … not so much.
That’s all there is, really.
Yup. Open world rewards are still in-line with the state of the economy back at launch. Back then 1g was a small fortune. The actual events and so on are enjoyable enough, we just need some incentives to get out and do them.
The rest of the human gods would be neat.
Partial to the Dragonguard, White Mantle and Shining Blade costumes from GW1.
We can always use more variety. I don’t like that they made so many intentionally shoddy looking armour sets.
I’m strongly against any kind of limited edition rewards though. It’s frustrating to tool around in the wardrobe, experimenting with different combinations only to discover that the one piece that would really tie your look together is unavailable until further notice.
This thread pretty much sums up exactly why this guild wars 2 community is absolutely awful, you should all really read the troll responses you’ve all given, micro-analyzing every sentence and being politically correct about everything when all I suggested is that the gem price be lowered on bag slots.
Naw, this is just not something you’re going to get a lot of support for. Most people don’t care about the bag slot expansion at all. I’m kind of in your corner, as I think most of the gem store items are overpriced, but realistically the best you can hope for is that they go on sale sometime around the HoT launch.
I don’t understand the need for more character storage space. Most of my characters don’t even have 20 slot bags across all slots. What kind of junk is being carried around that is taking up so much space?
All of the loot I find ends up salvaged. Salvaged material can immediately go to the bank. That almost always keeps my bags mostly empty. In the off chance that after salvaging everything that I am still over-burdened, I just pop into WvW for a second to unload on the banks/merchants there and I’m right back to where I left off.
More bank storage space needed, definitely. But character storage space? I can’t imagine needing more.
Same here, to be honest. I’ve never bothered with anything higher than 18 slot bags, and a couple of my least played characters still have 15s. /shrugs.
then i gonna kick all other classes ^^
only rangers and necro welcome
I joined a ranger and necro only TA run a few months ago, it went surprisingly smoothly.
Haven’t done any dungeons recently due to sheer boredom, but in 2 years+ it was rare to see someone kicked solely due to their class or build. Back in 2013 when I’d just hit 80 I joined a group on ranger and was asked to ping my skills. Had no idea about the meta so I was a bit puzzled when they kicked me.
In the farmable dungeons and low level fractals being <80 or having low AP are the greatest ‘risk factors’ though. Usually if someone’s running a non meta profession at most they’re asked to switch, especially if the group missing a preferred class (Thief in CM for example). No idea how Arah and fractal 50 PUGs operate.
Grindfest? Really? Are you kidding me? What are you grinding? The only “grind” is for achievements or skins and are entirely optional.
Skins aren’t really optional here. They make up at least half of the entire game economy and reward system. There’s not a whole lot to play for apart from these.
I experienced most of what the OP is feeling when I was new to the game as well. The only thing that really makes the game worthwhile are cosmetics. And it is a helluva grind to get most of the good ones.
Don’t think this is feasible. Matches are relatively short as is, and you’d need at least 3 out of 5 votes to end one. It would also be practical to disallow a surrender vote until a specific time has passed. Usually when a match is truly hopeless people just afk or run around aimlessly until it’s over, which usually isn’t a very long time.
+1
Also, let’s have some dreadlocks for female human and norn characters too.
Looks awesome. Definitely going to make a Canthan revenant now.
I really want an option for unlimited transmutation charges and makeover kits. Make it cash-only for all I care, but these would be amazing.
Pretty much. For better or worse, dungeons are dead in the water. Been that way for a while too.
I suspect HoT is going to have some farmable content that will reduce the numbers of people running dungeons even further. Maybe then the noobs and lowbies will have their chance to reign over the LFG.
Whoah, I have never seen anyone get that mad outside of PvP. I’d ping him a packet of salt but that dude probably already has hypertension.
Meh, this topic title is misleading. You’re just having bad luck at gambling. Say this prayer to RNGesus beforehand the next time you use the forge.
Oh RNGesus, who art in the cloud.
Hallowed by thy dice.
Thy precursor come,
Thy rolls be done,
On earth as it is in the forums.
Give us this day our weekly drops
And forgive us our greed
as we forgive those getting exotics they already have
And lead us not into farming,
but deliver us from glitches.
For thine are the precursors,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever, (or “until the patch comes out”)
Amen.
Problem with GW2 is that there is no challenge, what you do at lvl 1 you do at lvl 80 in PvE.. and it’s sad. Don’t worry about casuals b****ing about something, because if you state, that’s how it’s going to be, and nothing else, you pretty much get them to adapt. They always adapt.
Naw, the problem with PvE is just rewards. MMO content is meant to be be repeatable, if the challenge is high enough then the incentive to play it will decline very quickly unless the rewards are crazy good. I think the threshold for what players are willing to adapt to is actually pretty low. It’s like dungeons – we used to get our kittens handed to us before we figured out how to beat ‘em. Now they’re mostly just farm fodder. Any PvE content that is consistently difficult will be ignored by the vast majority.
I’ll always be against challenging open world content because of performance issues. Those of us running mid-range or lower PCs with regular internet connections often experience horrible decreases in fps and performance during zergy content. World bosses are perfectly do-able at the moment, but making the event mechanics significantly more complex could put everyone at a real disadvantage. Pre-patch Tequatl is probably the limit to what is feasible in the open world.
Anf for the record, I think this stuff is far better suited to dungeons and fractals. Maybe even a raid.
Caledon Forest for me as well. It’s very well designed and accessible, probably the most immersive starter area.
Forum necro is OP
There are a lot of hair styles that should be available in theory that simple aren’t. For example, males can have dreadlocks while females cannot (and this has always annoyed me). We’re subject to the designers’ tastes . /shrugs
Yeah, in regular dungeons I can be pretty forgiving for that kind of thing and willing to give advice/laugh it off… but fractals? Naw, kitten that. They take long enough as is. I start a vote kick for anyone who’s uncooperative on purpose.
Agreed, had a blast this weekend. Interesting change in pace from Conquest for sure.
Pub stomped most teams in a few minutes to start, but it became very intense and competitive as soon as people got the hang of it.
Lol. Jeez OP, who took the jam outta your donut? Zee mesmers? This has gotta be a troll post. Sometimes I really can’t tell.
I guess PvP is pretty easy though. Or maybe I get carried a lot. A lot of the time I go on a rampage for no good reason at all. And I’m a skill clicker who plays with a regular kitten $10 mouse and keyboard combo.
PvP as an elite area would suck though. Queue times can be long enough as is, sorry mate.
Of course it’s not okay, but the point I’m making is that an LFG description isn’t ironclad and doesn’t necessarily represent the views of the entire group. Sometimes people change their minds, or the party gets hijacked, anything can happen between the posting and starting the path… PUGs are volatile.
People saying one thing and doing another has always been a major IRL problem, and it’s completely unrealistic to expect MMOs to be exempt. It sucks but there is a very simple solution: Don’t PUG until you can handle it.
(edited by Jahroots.6791)
Lol, let’s be realistic here….this is a grouping tool in a video game not a contract for service. The description just gives you an idea of what kind of group is being formed, but it would be foolish to expect it to be exactly as described.
PUGs are dynamic in nature. Everything depends on what the majority of the group is feeling at that particular point in time, and often the 5 players have very different attitudes and play styles. And of course, anyone in the group can edit the posting to say whatever they want.
Agreed. Norn women are much, much better looking than humans for sure.
Lmao, I called this after my first run with a Rev yesterday.
It is friendly, but in an ‘adventure time’ kind of way, not ‘dora the explorer’. Lol. If you don’t want to play by the community standards then just go with guilds, they are much more forgiving.
I suppose certain problems are unavoidable as a game ages. Newer players will be at a significant disadvantage because the majority of the experienced set just don’t have the patience . This is especially true in GW2 because of the pervasive economic model. It creates a lot of unsavoury real-world behaviour as no one really cares about anything other than their own gold per hour income.
Playing a dungeon at-level in a group that’s advertised ‘all welcome’ is bad behavior and toxic. Wow.
I think Anet made a pretty huge design flaw in regards to this. Dungeons are set at a particular level, but virtually all of the rewards are for level 80 characters. Naturally, the 80s are going to take over.
Beyond that, one can’t assume that an LFG posting will be exactly as advertised. Parties form, players come and go and most importantly anyone can edit the description. Sometimes casuals will take over a ’zerk posting and vice versa.
It really sounds like he went looking for problems to be honest, and found them. That type of player usually has bad experiences. Also seems a bit unskilled and inexperienced as well. Best to stick to guild runs, as was mentioned in the post. It’s not reasonable to expect to be welcomed in PUGs as a lowbie.
Depends a lot on the team comp, some really do have an obnoxious amount if CC and unfortunately we don’t get a ‘Defiant’ buff to save us.
It’s mostly a L2P issue though. Aside from developing basic PvP skills, with experience you’ll develop the ability to recognize which classes pose the greatest immediate threat and how to counter and/or avoid the worst of their attacks. Invulnerability, stability and timed dodges make a world of difference.
