Though the question would remains, why Fort Salma was attacked?
However the priory member said that they have several of these caravans on the move. Maybe there was another place there?

The Priory was collecting the Krait’s obelisk shards from the ruins of the Tower of Nightmares. They were holding them in Fort Salma before they could be moved to a safer location.

Hah, you are right, forgot that tidbit…

Well, somehow that debunks the whole “he has a plan” Theory.

Furthermore, Mordemoth is traveling along the Waypoints, because they resonate with a frequency he finds deliciuous. Something that Taimi is about to stop.
So right now he is nothing more like a plant, turning to the sun.

If he is like Zaithan, he wouldn`t actually care about mortals anyway. They are just in the way of his food reserves. Right now they even provide him with it and the Waypoints are like a nice Highway, with some restaurants on the way. Just imagine where he could stop next.
Some people theorize he goes down to the Crucible of Eternity for example.
Others believe he will go to the chrystal caverns.

However, it is still a giant Dragon and if Shadowrun has taught me one thing, it is: “Don`t mess with dragons”

Good point.

I expect ley lines will be used to join it all together ;-)

Hope we can still take it back afterwards… somebody got the receipt?

To be honest, in terms of combining the different lores so far you have to admit that the PS did a way better job.
Even after the initial race centred content we were using a lot of mythical items and magic, which were part of other races lore.
- priory evokes an Avatar of Balthazar to defend LA (I still want that power -_-)
- We use a searing cauldron to whipe out Zaithans army in Orr
- The spirits of the Norn, who were guiding a map/compass allowed us to find the tomb in Orr
- etc…

There was this little thing about the caravan having strong magical artefacts, that have been drained of energy in concordia…

What if it was just Mordremoth following the tasty magic there and the attack on concordia was just a coincidence?

Though the question would remains, why Fort Salma was attacked?
However the priory member said that they have several of these caravans on the move. Maybe there was another place there?

Regarding the vine.
We see the green orb crashing into the “pale tree” and then sprouting vines everywhere.
Maybe this is the “thorny vine” Scarlet has seen.

I like gritty Warhammer, but evon was in for the money.

Kiel was even more WarHammer dark justice.

She had everything planned, exploded a whole ship in the end and behaved like it was just a normal job. Cool and calculating.

Evon did not much so far as i am concerned. Or can you tell me one thing he did so far? Aside from corperate fluff? (BL deals do not count, it is still buisness)

However, we are getting offtopic, dont we?

Acording to Angel it makes sense: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/lore/lore/Interesting-things-in-Scarlet-s-Room-Spoilers/4193104

Since it was not the future, but a possible one, Scarlet could still have created them now.

Yeah, a bit wonky and feels like a retcon (even more, after we speculated this topic so much as we realized that Scarlet was using the watchworks, which work similiar to the steam creatures… ), but it makes sense to a certain agree and keeps the whole thing “simple”

On the other hand it something else we put in Scarlets greedy genius hands, but who counts at this point anyway?

I am already imagine my character sitting around the campfire, writing in his journal:

After cutting vine after vine, we have finally broken Mordremoths hold on us. As we are now ready to attack him directly, the Pale Tree asked me to visit him again for an important message.

The Pale Tree has shown me a vision, much clearer and, luckily, safer then the one I was able to experience with Omadds machine. What I saw, I did not really expect. The whole spheres, the suposed Eldar Dragons… they were nothing but…

And here the journal ends… wait for the conclusion next season…

Oh, one more thing! The ambient audio in Dry Top is amazing. The wind sounds, specifically. I know that’s a weird thing to comment on, but I love the wind sounds. I’ve got a decent pair of headphones (Sennheiser 558s) and catch myself just stopping and listening sometimes.

Glad you like it! I’ll relay your kind words to the team. I’m sure they’ll appreciate that you noticed their hard work.

Could you ask them to do a video as well?
She did one on how they create the fire sounds for example (or was it the visual effects?)
It was really interesting and I would love to see some more behind the szenes from the smaller (?) teams.

Nah, they deserve the praise, i am only joking (maybe ).

The writing has improved and even if they are going pretty fast right now, there are slip ups here and there, which are understandable.
I like the implementation of the old lore, even though it is a bit much at the moment, hinting to too many things to feel comforatable (Two Kourna references in one go, i apllaud you sir. Also the many Cantha ones… diabolical)

Still… Bobby… we need answers… anything… The topic popped up several times in several parts of this forum… if not you who else? (well Angel and the rest of your staff naturally )

They are teasing us a lot with the recent Episodes, though.

We have Majory`s family and some Zephyrites shown deliberatly with Canthan background, to the point we got Canthan festival clothing, Ninja outfits and the possibility to get an Katana in the future.

Please remember that ArenaNet just had a new child.

Its name is China.

Sure, but as much as they avoided going into these topics in the past (or if it was there, it was spread so thin, that it didn`t even matter that much), it is kinda interesting being bombarded by so many references now.

Like I said. Maybe it is just fan-service and nothing else.
Maybe it is just to apeal to their china audience (though the armor they released a few months back with the insect and rouge theme make a little bit more sense now… not enough to warrant their existence, but hey… armor, you know…).

We do not know and we have to see.

Since it is only the interpretation of our PC it might not be the truth, though it might be, if we think that what he has seen was indeed what he believed to see…

I guess it is just a case of: “It is different to waht we are used to”

Let us take a look at the rest of the geographical design of the world. We had no big claustrophobic areas so far.

Dry Top is designed to be akin to a big Canyon. We can go down, which is narrow, but we can also go on top, which is flat.

The area gets revealed step by step throughout the story and right now it is an asortment of Canyons we are able to traverse. The walls to high to climb and even even with aspects, we would not be able to get on top that easily.

I do expect the worldmap to open further, deeper into the wastes, but still. It is a big Canyon and it does deliver exactly that feeling.
A feeling that is a bit missing in the other parts of the game, thanks to scaling.
You can often see mountains in the back of other regions, but most of the time it is a rather “small” part of the map. A hindrance, which you can quickly run around.

The new map is not like that. Here a Mountainwall means you have nearly no way to bypass it. It is soemthing that blocks your progress.
That is great. You feel much more intimdated by this wall in drytop, then the big mountain in the middle of Lonars Pass.

Why? because you cannot go around it.
Claustrophobic, small, all of that. That is the feeling this map gives you and in my opinion it is refreshing.

On the other hand it feels “small”, but that is just because the world is so big allready.

Also on your open world problem: “We are just in Episode 2 and allready we see it reaching out into the world from Dry Top and beyond.”
It starts with small changes, but i bet (hope) there will be more int he future.
More desturction, more changes in enviroment, more danger.
Something is happening and it is not only Dry Top that will change

Thanks. I do not know how feasabkle it is, but if we can use objects belonging to persons to summon them, then ther ahs to be some kind of connection.
Furthermore my main in GW1 was a Assassin, but I do not like playing a Thief in GW2. Missing a Sylvari in my line up I had to become a little bit creative to get that conenction done…

Still have to figure out the trasition from Human to Norn though, since it appears they are not interbreedable (see thread), which makes my Guardian lore unfriendly, ugh….

Can someone please shine the “writers sign” into the cloudy nightsky?
We need some answers.

Seriously. I sometimes think they like to leave us argueing between ourselves like: “dance my monkeys dance”…

In all fairness, i know they have a lot to do and because they can even write something they have to go through the proper ways so it does not become a PR debacle (see last time, which isn`even over now… “malleable”)

Maybe this is just a problem of them being to close to the project or they are skipping parts of the narrative, to keep the story on track (which in my book is stupid. I still want a proper explanation ingame why i am suddenly called boss -_- and yes i wont stop saying that. It bothers me like an unreachable itch).

S2 so far is going fast. With two releases they have shown they are not going a casual walk, like they did with S1, but big long strides towards something important.

It is a good thing… however if things like this keeps popping up it might throw stick in the enjoyment of the whole story and we quickly tumble down backwards, loosing all the momentum that was build up…

To be fair, what did Evon really bring to the table at that point aside from a possible “abaddon”?

Evon
Evon was portrayed as a ruthless buisnessman. He was doing things for money and further his agenda (mostly).
Other then that, he was not written as a sympathetic character.
The promise of “seeing” abaddons end in person, even though we allready know the majority of it, might entice people to vote for that, however there is still the big point of: “we allready know the majority from the gods themselves.”

Even if we considered that there might be “more to tell” or seeing it in person will give us some new information, it would not be enough to beat the competition.

Kiel
Kiel, even though she was protrayed as someone who is just doing her own thing in the background, taking your “glory” with Canach for example (which is not even the case, she was just going a different route and did you just do the dirty work. She was using you for the greater good and i am totaly fine with that), is still someone who does the “right thing”.

She was not portrayed sympathetic, but someone who does what has to be done for justice and not for money.
She has a dept she feels to pay off to the people who took her in and is doing exactly that and nothing more.

Her offer of the Thaumanova reactor might seem to be Asuran lore, however it is conected to an ongoing mystery in GW2. Nobody knew what has happened there. We only knew it was the prototype for the Crucible of Eternity in some way and that thing was dabbling in eldar dragon magic.

Case in point, the Thaumanova reactor was more exciting because it would have been able to tell a “new” story, instead of bringing up something most people have seen, experienced and heard of before.

It did not really have anything to do with the race the lore is from, but what did really matter to the world right now.

Whose death was more impactful? Taimi’s.

If only she had died. Then again, that might be going too dark for their tastes.

i don’t think they’re even allowed to kill her, she’s a child. she can’t even be depicted in combat, which is why she gets stuck inside that golem during fights.

Really now?

They could always pull a Gory Discretion Shot by having vines snare the golem and crush it/make it explode with her inside, then have one of the others call out, but no answer…then, Rox and Braham try to force open the kittenpit and look inside… and have the horrified/ridiculous expression of their eyes bulging and their mouths left in a " " formation, all the while having the camera focus/zoom on them as they look on in the smoking/crushed control pit (which wouldn’t be shown to us, but we could infer what happened by the characters’ expressions upon seeing it)…

…Wow…..did I just suggest a way to have a progeny die without showing it? Maybe I am evil… Oh well, the chances of them pulling that are almost none anyways.

Yep, too many red flags

Also since she has a distaste for the Queen if i am not mistaken, or at least for the nobility (but it is a long time since i met her in the PS) and the powerfull human artifact was namedropped (the locket), i can only asume at some point that thing will go missing, as a weakend carawan stumbles into her or other bandits hands… hence we got to get it back from them, till we see who will be the new Queen, if Jenna will actually die (or not, it`s just a theory )

Spoiler : Women in Refrigerator Plotline

in Living World

Posted by: Jaken.6801

Jaken.6801

So pretty much a female character who pretty much had has no story development is killed for as a plot device in this LS. She is involved in only one mission, and then is sent to her death off screen in the next mission. Pretty much this character was created to die for the A-team to feel emotion, but for me I feel nothing because she has as much development as the thousands of npcs I kill everyday. This is unlike the mentor you get in your PS who you actually develop a relationship with, and then dies in a heroic way. Personally I do find this type of story extremely lazy and somewhat offensive.

OP has misunderstood the woman in refrigerator trope.

What makes the refrigerator trope harmful is how it uses a heroine’s death to further motivate and add emotional depth to a male protagonist, and perpetuating the trope of heroines being more helpless, more susceptible to brutalization in stories, as well as merely existing for the character development of a male character.

In Entanglement, all that happens is that JORY loses her sister. Belinda’s death suggests nothing about the brutalization of women, and the nature of her death is no different from all the other people (including men) you see strangled like Foreman Abe, random male civilian in Prosperity, Drooburt, etc.

Belinda died a brave warrior doing her job, and her death served as a harsh reminder of what kind of threat an Elder Dragon brings. Throughout the personal story Anet has made your character endure all sorts of deaths (from both sexes) in order for you to feel the pains of loss/sacrifice and all that jazz. Belinda’s death is no different.

I guess the gender aspect can be ignored since the same can happen to both.

Overall i am not really moved by Belindas dead myself. She was introduced as a means to an end, nothing more and since that has happend so often allready that it is just disgusting.

It was basicly:
- “here i am” at the end of S1 (she was apearently at the ToN, but too much in the Background), where she was nothing more then a 90-Comedy-Suprise-Guest/Hint-to-next-season
- Beginning of S2E1, for us to be reminded: Majory has a sister and they like each other etc. and she looks up to her and wants to help, etc. Just to give her some character
- Near the end of E2, where we only heard her and then she was dead…

She was a disposable character, only to get Majory taken out of the “leader” equation (She was more or less our rival there) and into the backseat, so others can thrive (which is pretty obvious).
- The PC can now lead
- Kasmeer can grow in self esteem/expand her new “gift”
- Taimi can go all out Asura/Scarlet Fangirl, till she takes one step too far
- Braham… can grow some balls and tell Rox to stuff it
- Rox… can do something? I mean, beside playing mother for Braham…
(Yes, i am exagareting here. However now the “only” competent character is away)

It was something needed, however i am very suprised how many people are applauding the writing here… We met her three times, she contributed nothing then exposition and was ended up as a tool to further another characters developement.

We never really interacted with her. Most of her lines were with Majory.
The only thing we can do here, is feeling sorry for Majory.
She lost a family member.

Death itself is a bad thing. I am not playing it down. However written like that, she is not feeling like a living character, but a means to an end.

Killing her off so early just shows how disposable she was for the story.
This was a bad dead. In my eyes it was disgusting.
Killing her offscreen did not help.

Skins for Play and Skins for Pay

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jaken.6801

Jaken.6801

I guess the problem is more in “where” and “what”

Weapon skins
We got some in mixed variety. Some through new content, some through gemstore, some through RNG and some through crafting.

In my book this diversity is fine, till you think about how many whole sets are hidden behind a RNG+Gem+Time Wall.
If we could aquire these highly rated items directly through money, they would be fine
If the RNG+Time would be the same all the time, it would be fine.

Right now it is “forcing” (and i am using the term loosely, since there is still the argument “you do not need these skins”) to invest Time+Money with no guaranteed outcome.
If you are unlucky, you open 10 chests, because you allready spend 20 bucks on keys and end up with not even one whole BLC-Ticket. (Right now i opened around 30 chests, one lucky ticket drop and 8 scraps, for around 40€, not a good track record)

Armor Skins
These are the big offenders in my book.
Up to this day, nearly two years in, we got only one Armor Set which is available ingame, without resulting to gems: The Ascended Armor

All other armor sets that have been introduced were gemshop only.

Things we got ingame otherwise were singular items. Some fitting, some weird and a lot of them were themed backpacks.

This is not a bad thing, however the game really needs some some new content you can aquire ingame. It has been two years and everything gemshop related is either spending real life money, or grinding for gold.

My Name now is:
- Comander Sheppard
- Isaac Clark
- Fayt Laingods
- etc.

But hey, we finally have something that was missing from S1:
A Character who has seen something special and thus is the only one who is maybe able to do something.
That was missing in S1, beacuse there, none of the NPCs had something like that in the long run.

Now our PC has something in his head, that can shift the coming events, beacuse he was there at the right time…

On his mental status? Well it can be several things. I mostly think he will be normal just a bit drowsy.
I guess that Scarlet build in some safety mechanism or bossted its capabilities, because from what i can get, our PC did not see much more then her and she improved on it after she entered the machine and had her vision

Jaken.6801

Ugh, tough question if you reduce it to these two… I would say Drooburt.

Belinda felt like a waste in retrospect, only to be there to be killed off.
Sure death is a sad thing, but how much time did we really spend with her?
We met her at the end of S1, again for a little bit in S2E1, just to have her killed the next time we meet her in S2E2.

I am sorry, but the one who has a history with her is Majory and not me.

Drooburt actually was just a background Character, but if you talked to him he asked for money, since he wanted somethign to drink. He was a stupid Quaggan in the dessert.
His whole existence was annoying (at least for me. I mean, there was a waterhole just a bit outside the village. If you are no alcoholic get your water there…)

Subsequently seeing him dead was rather, weird. I was thinking: “You stupid Quggan, why were you even here…”

stop calling me "boss"!

in Living World

Posted by: Jaken.6801

Jaken.6801

Okay, first of:
We were called “Boss” before by Majory in S2E1, as we were investigating the crash
In S2E2 Braham started to call us that as well and i guess Taimi later too.

So right now our stupid title for our role with the Biconics is: BOSS

Why is it stupid?
Well, does the title “Boss” feel natural in this High Fantasy setting? Do you expect a group of adventurers there to call their “leader” Boss?
While it makes complete sense in our time and understanding, the term “Boss” was never used in the discription of any other leading position.

Going through the Wiki, does not even show it as any designation a character in the world has.

Calling us Boss makes no sense in that regard and feels unfitting for the setting, it breaks immersion.

Additional
A theme with S2 so far is, that they a skipping ahead. We have the Mordremoth issue, in which the NPCs use the name, without it being in some way revealed in game and then there is the simple fact that:
“We were never asked/elected to be the leader of the biconics”

At the end of S1 we were simply their “friend” and comrade in arms against Scarlet.
We were “introduced” as their Leader in S2 by Ellen Kiel, because we “killed” Scarlet, for political reasons.

However, the group itself, in presence of the PC, never adressed the issue.
The writers skipped ahead and just made us their leader.

While it might be a minor nitpick, everyone else at least asked/elected/promoted us into our position. Be it Logan, the Orders or even Trahearn.

In S2E1 Kasmeer actually asks us the question, on which we answer that we have not comanded for some time.

This implies we are still associated with the pact, maybe even as comander, however we do not executing the position at the moment.

That the Pact was not really used in S1 is something that was debatted alot in the past allready, but S2 seems to pull the Pact back in, with mentions of Trahearn as well as the attack on Concordia, a Pact outpost.

am i guessing right that the Atlas is getting phased out?

There have been no updates since the aftermath and that was last “season”.

While i am one of the people who did not see the point of it in it`s current form (good idea, lackluster execution, etc…) i am suprised that it is not at least being held up to date. (well, they added dry top from S1E1 at least)

They could really expand on it, with account bound unlocks, augmented reality, better control, etc.
So it would be kind of a waste to see it go away.

Can we get some information here?

Nah, i rather think she saw the eternal alchemy. Was annoyed to suddenly have the Pale Tree jamming her signal and as she saw Mordremoth (the voice in her head) planning to take down the hindrance that held her back, she gave up the resitance and went on to help him get rid of Tree, while falling further down the way of insanity.

She killed Omadd, because she did not want to be a lab rat, now that she has seen something no Asura or mortal has seen before and feels subsequently much smarter and above everyone else.
However she knows that she alone is not strong enough, She realized the power of the eldar dragon, even calling it her master. Like a young apprentice she follows her leader, while trying to gain his respect by rebelling so far, as to tell the voice in her head, that everything that happened is all her doing.
She did not want to be controlled.

My problem with Eternal Alchemy

in Lore

Posted by: Jaken.6801

Jaken.6801

Sure, but we got people substituting their believe in a god/creator to science.

So the Asura believe in “science” aka “Eternal Alchemy” (because that is their equivalent in this world)

There is a great book by Terry Prachet in which he talks about these thoughts: “The Last Continent”
On the discworld there is no evolution in the normal sense. There is a force called narativum which, as the name implies, allows things to exist just because they fit the narrative structure of the world.
In the book the magicians of the world actually meet a lesser god of evolution, however even thought they are more or less the “scientists” of their world, they cannot accept the gods way of thinking.

I never say that the Asura know everything. They just substitute their believe in gods/myths with something they can better understand.

In that case they do not limit themselves to one explanation, but they are open to inlcude “everything”.
Though on the other hand, they are quick to dismiss if something makes no sense at first, like every other scientist does. You know, as long as it is not proven otherwise, my theory is right.

What else are beliefs/myths but theories about things we cannot grasp with our mind?
Things that are outside our capabilities.

Many say that religion is nothing else then grasping for some kind of “hope”. An answer to the old question: “Why are we here?”
Nobody knows what is real for sure. Is there a god? A creator? A Joke? Random? or something completly different.

Nobody knows. Even the Asura have not all the answers.
They are however on the right way, but the question is then: “is this a way we mortals shall travel?”

Jaken.6801

Pretty much on the lore side with my characters. Some are loose decendants or reincarnation of my GW1 characters of course, however thanks to class and race differences it might be not so easy:

Corvo Raven
Was my Main in GW1

GW1:
Corvo Raven was trained to be an Assassin in the monestary. Taking part in the fight against Shiro, he traveled the world, helping out wherever he can, while writing about his travels. He fought in Kourna and later in Kryta, where his live ended. His last whereabouts were in the Maguuma jungle, where a copy of his diary was found in a rotten state.

GW2:
That diary was left near the area, which later became the grove. Being absorbed mostly it took a lot of Corvos residual emotions and feeling into the magic flow. They say things that were important to a person usually carry a bit of it with them, so through some part of him appeared in the dream in front of a young Sylvari.
Inspired by his deeds he took on the name of this man he knows nothing about, but still feels so close.
Tracking down his way through Tyria to reconstruct the diary. Be it through copies or fragments in his mind.

Jaken Highwind
My new Main in GW2

GW1:
Jaken was a simple Mesmer who joined the evacuation of Acalon with Prince Rurik. After they reached Lions Arch however he sailed to Kourna, where he joined the Sunspears. Becoming a dilpomat after the fall of Abaddon he and his ancestors traveled back and fourth between the lands till the conection was lost through the rise of the eldar dragons.

GW2:
Having lost their social standing over the years, the young Jaken joined a gang of rouges. However he always looked back on his history, remembering how important and powerfull they were. How much he wanted to break out of the confined walls of Destinies Reach.
With the attack on Shamor his live changed. Climbing the ranks, sweettalking and deciving with his mesmer magic he joined the Order of Whispers and took part in the attack on Zaithan.
Realising that being part of an army is not what he has wanted, though, he left to travel the lands.
His vacation however was cut short, thanks to the troubles that Scarlet Briar brought upon the continent.
Trying to investigate he started to gather trophies from his victories. His most prized possession is a full light armor from the aetherblade pirates, including their revolver and one of their leaders Rapier….

My problem with Eternal Alchemy

in Lore

Jaken.6801

The Eternal Alchemy is the same as our Scientists who believe that there is a possibility that god exists.

The Eternal Alchemy is not dismissing the old information we had, it just rearanges the priority of some variables.

While the six human gods are indeed powerfull beings, they are nothing more then that. Just beings that hold a lot of power and are able to use more of the “eternal alchemy” then anyone else.

In the past we thought air was the breath of god that allowed us to live.
Now we know it is part of a biological cycle.

The parts did not change, it is just that we now have a greater understanding on how these parts fit together.

Things that were very important in the past, might not be so important, after we discover new connections.

It can be that something small can become something more sygnificant, if we are able to look at it from the right way.

That said, look at our own history once more. Who would have thought we would be close to Star Trek like we are now?
Smartphones, Sliding Doors, Space Stations, intelligent computers, augmented reality, lifelike CG, robots that can read emotions, etc…

Fiction and Myths become reality.

Of course there is always the downside. The magic vanishes. In the end it is just a “simple” formular…

Except we are led to believe there is at least one other sylvari mother tree (Malyck’s). There was only one Mana Tree. I don’t think the Pale Tree is as important as the Mana Tree. If the big circle does indeed represent the Pale Tree, I suspect it’s because we are seeing “Scarlet’s vision” and it’s framed from the perspective of a sylvari? That’s actually something I wonder about the vision, is it our PC’s unique interaction with the device or is it our PC’s experiencing a replay of Scarlet’s interaction (with the added benefit of the adjustments Scarlet made to it). What I did find interesting is that it was unsafe when Scarlet used it but our PCs used it fine (including sylvari PCs). Either Scarlet’s adjustments made a difference, the Entity is not around atm or the device was incidental to the Entity.

The vision in Omadd’s device could mean any numbers of things. Did anyone clearly hear what the voices were saying? I thought it might be Scarlet’s conversation with the Pale Tree when she accessed the device.

On the pale tree
The Mana Tree, depending on which game we are talking about, is not a singular being, but something that can sprout saplings.
In Secret of Mana for example it is the only remaining tree left.
So multiple Pale Tree with similiar function could still be the case if we use this analogy.

If we really entered from the Eternal Alchemy into part of the nearest Pale trees conciousness however, it can be asumed that it displayed what was coming or allready happening.

That the pale tree is only part (gear) of the eternal alchemy (or magical construct) of Tyria and the eldar dragons as well.
They are spun into motion or out control and now attacking the other parts. Either by design or by malfunction. We do not know yet.

All we know it seems like they are part of a system that in some way is connected.

On the machine
Okay, we know Scarlet entered the machine as Caera, so she was there with Omadd.
She took the name of Scarlet and then killed Omadd went crazy, etc.

However the machine the PC and Taimi enter is in some way different then the one Scarlet used, since she did some upgrading.

We know that Scarlet heared a voice and that she did not want to be controlled by it. While she was lead by Mordremoth, she had still her personality, which fought back a bit. She followed the orders, but she wanted to do it her way. She mentioned that it all was still “her work”.

So upgrading the system to get a closer look at the “eternal alchemy” is only logical.

Even more if we consider that she might be diverted to the pale tree instead. Her signal was jammed there.
It could be an extra insentive to follow Mordremoth, since the pale tree is in her way as well.

What i am confused about is, that i did not see the “red thorny vein” that Scarlet was supposed to see.
We allready guessed that it was symbolizing her, however we only saw green in our vision

Here is the link to the final cutscene. What do you think about the eternal alchemy?

Aside from getting a 2001 vibe and that I am not only the Boss, but i want to call myself now Comander Sheppard?

We see the Pale Tree shown with the symbol of “infinity” sourounded by a clockwork, which is often a representation on how the universe works.

We got six spheres sourounding it. Each obviously representing an elder dragon

While the mirror positions are still courious (They could easily soround the center, but they are aligned left and right, like two opposing forces), we see them light up one after the other.

Red → Primordus
Blue → DSD
Purple → Zaithan
Yellow → Kalkratorik

Then we got white and green, with the later pushing into our faces, growing and entering the Pale Tree, assimilating it.

The clockwork stops and all is green.

We also see the “dragons” orbiting the center like satelites, which could indicate that they are atracted by it (instead of gravity, i guess its magic power?)

Mhm… you are right
I mixed the two kingdoms history and mythology a bit.

Okay, seen the end i am a bit suprised. Now we do a Comander Sheppard, eh?

However what have we seen? We have seen the “eternal alchemy” or at least how Tyria is magical bound.
We have seen six orbs flying around a central body, which seems to be the pale tree.
Each of these orbs was obviously representing one of the eldar dragons and the one for Mordremoth was attacking the pale tree.

the tree itself seems to be something like a central source of energy. Given the symbolic nature of it beeing shown as “infinity” i can only presume that it has a much bigger influence then only “purifying”.

I can only see it work like the Mana Tree in the Seiken Densetsu Series.
A powerfull magical beeing filtering and protecting the magic of the world.

- Krytan locket? always shows the true heir? Kasmeer is the one, i call it :p (she has a gift that is about to awake? dun dun duuunnnn)

- Penelopee and bloomaloo are very fast travelers… nice that they have a home now

- Dead thirsty quaagan

- creating a new character just to kill it off… i am not really fine with that. Sure it is tragic, but we had enough. That is just for dramatic effect and feels wrong. Even if it pushes Kasmeer more into a possible leader role, beside the main (The locket…) character

Never.
I was confused as well.

Even if we consider the Inquest knowing its name, because they are using its minions and even if the pact has knowledge, this is a slip up.

I guess they are skipping some things, as they are further in their minds as in game at the moment.

I hope they get their act together

Morfremoths name was never mentioned before
For all people in Tyria the ED has just awoken. Nobody knew it would be a new dragon. Just that something has roared.

Players knew the name from looking at the attack names from the CoE jungle path, however it was only later confirmed by Colin in an interview.

The only people who have actually shown any knowledge of all dragons are indeed the inquest in CoE, as they gathered minions from all six elder dragons.

However to the rest of Tyria this is a new danger and they actually have no knowledge about it.

Majory and kasmeer calling the dragon by name is subsequently not fitting.

I can only asume the writers missed a step here

So, lets gather some observations:

- Since when did we knew Mordremoths name? Was it mentioned somwhere before? Was it mentioned last patch and i just missed it?

- Varesh Ossa and Kourna mentioned —> Nightfall? Abaddon? (i know he is gone, but real of torment anyone?)
- am officially “the Boss”
- Nicholas Sandfort…
- So magnetic field like thingy on the RoT Map is the pale tree for sure?
- Pact member is has kourna ancestors
- Even the NPCs refer Lions Arch as LA
- The incident with Aerin is widly known (you can ask a pact member about him)
- Skritt holes

Like the Joker, Scarlet was never meant to be a fighter. And in the Arkham games, he tends to avoid direct combat, and quite frankly, he’s not good at it. The scene in Arkham origins where you do beat up the Joker is a bit disturbing really, since physically the batman is so much stronger than the Joker.

I don’t think a straight up fight with Scarlet would have made much sense either. Like the Joker she was a thinker and a schemer, not a fighter. She had thugs to do the fighting for her.

I don’t think all MMO enemies have to be great at combat. It’s kind of sad for the genre if everything has to devolve into violence.

Okay, I rephrase it a bit:
1. Yes, Scarlet was never meant to be a fighter, but a puppetmaster

2. In her first encounter we “fought” her, but she litteraly shrugged it off godmode style and then vanished in the end.
Going with the Joker here, look at the Dark Knight. Here batman punched the Joker, physicaly beaten him, but was never the winner.
Scarlet was missing something like that.
When we attacked her, she just shrugged it off, like she just does not care. That implied she had something protecting her (magitech armor or something)

3. Till the end we never fought her. We never had the satisfaction of bringing her down.
The end-instance was just kicking her while she was already down.
The “fight” or her “defeat” was brought upon by dozens of players and a system overload by her hologram.

We had her only in “can`t touch this” mode, in the pavillion, the invasions and the tower of nightmares…

The next time we see her, she has already lost everything. No real defence, no godmode, nothing. We just went over to her and stumped on her dying body.

Again with the Joker. Batman had to take all his toys away first and had to outsmart/overpower him in the end to bring him down.

That is something we never really did. All we had was a system overload caused by dozens of heroes smashing the hologram, while she was ignoring us in the back.

So yeah. I am hoping for a more engaging and satisfying ending for the next part.
have us rip away the enemies defences. Destroy his armor, crush his confidence.
Give us an adversery that makes us mad by showing us our weakness and allow us to regain that self confidence by proving him otherwise.

So yeah. Scarlet was no Joker and we (or Majory) are no Batman.

On the biconics
Sure they are better then Destiny`s Edge, at least from the ingame perspective
Never read the books so far sadly.
However i can agree with the sentiment that the “friendship” angle can feel a bit forcefull and some of the jokes are getting a bit repetative at some points.
While we have no cookie cutters like angel says, we get some “useless” characters so far which i hope they redeem.
Right now the only active members are Majory, Taimi and to some extend Kasmeer.
The rest is just following along, which was even worse in S1.

I really hope we see some improvement there.

On text lenght
Voice or no Voice, that is the question.
However i agree to MQM that both should be done.
I also agree with the Idea that there could definitely be more written “side infos” on certain topics, which need no spoken words.
The writers know what we ask for, as the forum are full of questions.
It would be the perfect way to answer them.

For example:
- How are the other ED fronts? Is the Pact engaging there?
- How are Rythlok, Caithe, Zooja, Logan, Kiel..?
- etc…

I am still hoping for some class specific designes with some throwbacks to the GW1 fashion, just for nostalgia.
I mean we got some engineer stuff that could fit certain classes but these are very few or even worse, are for the wrong armor class. Like the alchemist/engineer outfit for the humans T1 light…

Ah, good old Nocturne… Sadly it always crashed for me…

However, while i admit that i am not so fond of the biconics after S1, i admited that i like them as characters and i am courious to see if they are better integrated in S2.
That however is my personal opinion.

What i put out to discussion was mearly the fact that the transition from “friend” or “comrade in battle against Scarlet” to “leader of the biconics”

I can understand Kiel calling me that, since I killed Scarlet and she need to introduce me in some way to the Master of peace. Political talk, etc.

However, as long as Majory`s comment was not a “snarky” remark, it would mean that the writers now go with the idea that we are accepted by all as the “leader”

The problem is, we were never asked to do so.
We never saw the question brought up in any way, since till now and in general, this is stil just a loose group of adventurerers (shown by the fact that are still going their merry ways most of the time and only seem to come together when called. By E for example)

The group does not have a name like Destiny`s Edge, nor are they registrated as a guild.

It is just a group of “friends” or people going into the same direction.

Our character is supposed to be a part of this group. He is supposed to experience stuff and evolve with them as they are with you. Subsequently we need to know if it was a decided by mutual consent of the group outside the parts we have seen, the writers skipping out on a few lines and we just have to accept our new position.
Or if if it was something else.

Right now I can only asume why am the leader, but I do not know how I got this position.
- Was everyone okay with it?
- Was there someone against it?
- How does each individual feel about me taking the “lead”?
- Was our character allowed to vote as well? (Which does not have to end in a branching storyline, or different ways. It could be some simple lines of dialog, which could help evolve our own character and give more insight into the others. Creating a benefit for both sides)
- When did it happen?

Again. If you are thinking I want big giant branching tree in the story, then you are mistaken.
I actually just want to know how our Character ended up in that position, which is not based on us players outside of the game asuming that we just are.
