Toggle Talk To NPC's During Combat Option

Please consider adding a player settings option to toggle talking to NPC’s during combat to either on or off.

The single most annoying aspect of playing GW2 for me is while in PVE combat, if I attempt to grab loot from foes I have downed, if an NPC is present, a NPC dialog box pops up obliterating the view of the still in progress combat. Instead of defending myself or allies, I have to pause and desperately try and click on the tiny close dialog box X, and hope my character or an ally does not die during the process.

Better yet, just set NPCS’s to not respond with a dialog if the player is in combat.

The often suggested solution to this is to spam the action key however, often you need to move slightly and retrieve more loot, so once again your combat view gets blocked by another NPC dialog.

I mean, doesn’t this annoy the developers as well as players?

It has been some time since my first response, and I have been experimenting with my offhand sigils quite a bit.

I run a mostly defensive/survivabilty build and use mace/torch and scepter/shield or scepter/focus.

After trying quite a few, I have found Sigil of Restoration very productive so I use it on all my offhand weapons.

It is very helpful when you engage multiple foes at once, as these are the situations where you are likely to take some damage, so as soon as you fell just one, you get a heal. It is limited to one heal every 90 seconds to keep it from being OP, but that still allows you to keep your other heals in reserve.

Damage output VS Survivability

While leveling to 80 my guardian has been a defensive build.
The only time I ever felt like I did not have enough damage were a few times I tried to solo a Veteran or Champion that had some sort of regeneration or fast healing buff such that my damage output alone would never kill them. I feel that in groups it is not an issue. Just about any group can take down any mob in GW2 as long as the group stays alive. The DPS glass cannon craze is a hold over from other classes that lack the survivability that guardians have. I don’t feel it is appropriate for guardians to worry about, I don’t.

This does not mean you should not take steps to increase your damage out put IF they do not take away from your survivability.

Shield vs. focus?

I leveled from 1-80 using mace/torch and scepter/focus.
I liked the focus offhand skills as they seemed to compliment the ranged style of the scepter, however now that I am in Orr and dungeons, I am going to try the shield. That heal looks very tasty, and I for sure could use the knockback.

Inner Fire trait and Zealot's Flame

It makes no sense why guardian has this particular trait, why is Guardian over other classes more likely to get hit with burning or for that matter why have any skill for any class that does this? It just makes no sense.

The obvious explanation is this was originally intended to proc when torch skill 4 was used, but some pvp balancing weener had a fit before release and demanded that it be nerfed. There was not time to create a new trait, so they just nerfed this one into oblivion.

How to start the flame and frost story?

It’s very deceptive calling this a living story, as if your actions make one wit of difference to a living world. This all just more instanced scripts, stuff that vanishes or resets the moment you complete it. It makes absolutely no difference to Tyria one way or the other. We have seen this all before, mobs take over outpost, timer clicks, outpost reverts back not being occupied. The fact that you liberated it once or a thousand times, is irrelevant. It’s all just tons of little compartmentalized instances that always reset. That or some spots are in infinite contention. You win it, go to sleep, it reverts, ad nauseum.

I have got to say whoever writes the talking points for this marketing effort has been working overtime. “Living Story” that’s rich. It’s as silly as continuing to refer to that rail ride of episodes after Treefern takes over as your “Personal Story.”

Guardian Bugs compilation.

The self combo of laying down Purging Flame and the finishing it with Protector’s Strike, seems to only display the successful combo icon for Burning Bolts if used with no foe present. If a foe is present, regardless of if they strike at the block or not, the combo Burning Bolts does not display. Since it is burning damage, there is also no record of it in the log.

Update 2-2-2013.
Silly me for assuming from the tooltip that Protector’s Strike would proc the combo when the skill is started. According to the wiki though it only proc the combo if you are not struck during the 3 second duration.

It should be noted that other similar working skills like “Shield of Wrath” that are also finishers, cause the combo to fire instantly when the skill is initiated.

It would make sense for Protector’s Strike to proc when the skill is initiated. As it is the situations where you might derive any benefit from this combo are ones where is it highly likely you will get struck.

Bah. No doubt this will be ignored or even ridiculed by Arenanet, before going back to work to insure that every patch includes at least one new skill, combo, or buff for Elementalists.

Scale Dungeon Rewards for Least-Run Paths

I guess you didn’t read that dev post a few days back discussing dungeons and how upping the rewards significantly was not on the table only very minor adjustments like you might get same level blues instead of blues under your level.

Ever since the bean counters took over a month or so ago, drop rates, and rewards in general have gone south. They are simply not going to do anything that will make buying gems to convert to gold a going concern for the TP.

The only way this suggestion will ever see the light of day is after the reward part is nerfed to oblivion or even set back, requiring more runs to get the same amount of loot value. Anet has been saying one thing while doing the opposite lately. They said they were going to improve the dungeons, and what do they do, make it harder for casuals.

This is a huge step that essentially says dungeons are not for casuals. So casuals will leave, the people left, the elite, with Voip and can play 24/7, will stay and crow about how pro they are. Anet will pat themselves on the back for ‘fixing’ dungeons by simply making them too hard for casuals to venture forth, so casuals won’t be around to QQ about it.

I think it is really really rich that the developer who designed the system such that waypoint rushing was possible, has the gaul to riducule players who simply took advantage of poor design. It is becoming obvious that the games coders have always really despised the ‘fun’ casual friendly ideas put forth in the manifesto, and they have had a bad case of elitism envy of a certain much more successful MMO’s that are built around elite raiding.

So one more of many to come bricks in the wall to keep casuals out and prevent them from sullying the game experience of the elite.

You can see it already in this thread, the elite bragging about how ‘easy’ the dungeons are and they never wipe, and how everyone just needs to learn to play or go away.

This waypoint change is going to make the colossus fractal practically impossible to complete for noob pugs. So many people fall off while learning the dungeon that having to backtrack to rez them is going to take forever. Maybe if you guys had added an express down elevator it would work but with this new change, noob PUGs won’t have a chance. Way to go from new player friendly to elitetism overnight. One more manifesto item out the window.

Duration of Burning Bolts

When a Guardian self initiates the whirling finisher “Burning Bolts” by laying down ‘Purging Flames’ followed by ‘Protectors Strike’ I assume since this is adding burning to existing burning it simply stacks duration, so what is the amount of the added duration?

Secondly, does condition duration buffs apply to the burn from Burning Bolts?

Is there any thought or movement concerning fixing clarifying the way Minor and Major Sigils work that extend condition duration for burning, bleeding or poison.

Unless one stacks condition duration on lower level characters, the minor and major sigils in these lines are worthless since their percent is not enough to earn an additional ‘tick’ for activation.

How about replacing the Minor and Major Sgils duration extension values with 1 and 2 seconds respectively?

It depends. Sigil of Accuracy does not stack if you have one on each weapon (main and offhand) so don’t waste a slot if you already use Accuracy on your main hand. 5% by itself is not going to be noticeable. It’s the same as saying it will add one crit for every 20 attacks. If you have traits and other gear that buff crit chance or precision, go for it, but otherwise, forget it.

Since my guardian usually runs two sets of main/offhand weapons (mace+torch and scepter+focus), I like sigils that proc on swap for the off hand weapon.

On swap, Sigil of Hydromancy gives you a freeze on your enemies, and Sigil of Geomancy lays a decent bleed on your foes. I put the Hyromancy on the ranged set, so it gives more time to kite away from the enemy, and I put the Geomancy on the melee set, just for the condition damage benefit.

Personally I think the Sigils that help with defense or crit are much weaker/less effective than the ones that help increase damage so I lean towards Sigils that add damage.

What do “AH + EM” refer to?

Has there ever been an official reason given for why enemies appear as ‘Server-name Invader’? Does this reflect a deliberate gameplay design decision, or a technical constraint?

Some of the reasons behind enemies appearing as ‘Server-name Invader’ where to avoid harassment issues, let other servers identify what server you are from, and to help establish server rivalry. The way your server name reads is something we would love to adjust, and I am hopeful that we will!

This is interesting as I can go play hot-join sPvP and hear about every insult and curse word I know of thrown at me. But maybe the rage would be worse in WvW with the JP camping and all.

There are plenty of MMO’s with large scale PVP like Perfect World where you can see the name and guild of each combatant.

Trash talking exists, but that is part of the dynamic and part of the fun.

Getting rid of anonymity is the best way to get rid of griefing. If you know who it was who did you or a friend wrong, you can track them down with friends for payback. Or you can report them. It actually adds to the whole war experience.

Same thing with K/D ratios. Knowing them allows the elite to seek their opposite number out for the best challenges. Again, I don’t see the kind of bad K/D behavior mentioned here taking place in Perfect World. If anything it handicaps those with a high ratio, as every new hot shot wanna be is going to be gunning for them.

I am almost tempted to resort to trotting out Ayn Rand show how silly and infantile these unfounded fears are of recognizing individual performance.

All the flimsy excuses thrown out for why it is the way it is, seems to be a cop out, to gloss over the fact that perhaps it was:

1- A mistake and
2- That it is hard coded deep in the code and would be expensive to revise.

Jumping Puzzle Equality

Will the new jumping puzzles treat player characters of different sizes equally? Have you evened out new jumping puzzles to have portions that favor tall characters to balance out those portions that are buggy/hard for tall characters and easy for short ones?

It is such an established meme that small characters have a distinct advantage in current JPs, it is unfair to players with tall characters.

I would like to see the tables turned for once, and see JP sections that give an advantage to tall players and put short ones at a disadvantage. So many players with short characters specifically rolled with JPs in mind now complain JPs are not hard enough.

Give them harder by introducing JP sections that challenge short players while giving tall ones an edge. It’s all about balance.

1. Either fix jumping so that max size characters can negotiate and view jumping sections just as easily as small characters, or take JP out of dungeons. I don’t consider it fun to have my view obliterated while trying to navigate a tricky section when it is a breeze for small characters. I like large as possible Norn toons, but I have no desire to stumble them through the key jumping puzzles of the FOTM. I have noticed that many times there will be single steps up on ledges rocks etc. that small characters breeze right up, but large characters have to try repeatedly untill they find the micro spot where their model can negotiate that step. I have a smallest possible female Asura and a max size male Norn, and they are NOT equal when jumping sections are involved.

2. Gating dungeon access by the lowest party member is bad and divides the player base. Change it to be choose-able based off the highest level reached by any team member.

3. Get rid of sections that rely heavily on randomization. I am thinking of the swamp.

Most people I play with, casual scrubs, hate the swamp FOTM. It is just too gimicky and depends too much on whether you get a good path, and if the swamp guy shows up and how the traps are placed randomly. Just dump this level entirely. Some people claim it is easy for them, but they must be in the minority.

4. Put melee back into dungeons. Just about every dungeon and boss has to be done ranged as much as possible. It is as though your devs have admitted they cannot within the restrictions of the ‘no tanks, no healers, no damage dealers’ produce anything except things the require ranged in order to survive. If that is the case you should change the name of the game to Ranged Wars.

5. Drastically lower the requirements for the dungeon gear sets. One run should net enough tokens to buy one piece of a set. We casuals have been there and done that (the grind) and moved on. The reward is just not compelling enough to make me want to run the same instance more than a handful of times. It is really easy to tell that no one does this given the rarity of seeing people running around LA in full dungeon sets. Also the designs are simply not attractive. Out of all the sets, I see only two pieces that appeal to me. The rewards need to be sweetened in terms of drops.

6. Make all dungeons open all the time. Talking about the dungeons that now get closed due to being in contested areas. As it now stands several planets have to align just right if you want to enter a few of these dungeons. Way too much aggravation, when there are so many good new games out there that don’t throw frustration after frustration at you.

7. Put a decent LFG module into the game. Sure your hard core 1% can always get groups or know how to use external tools, but don’t forsake the the great majority of scrubs that make up most of your player base. Begging in map chat, is not something that would look good as a bullet point on your retail box.

then there’s some who take some change, no matter how significant or not, as a personal afront. Throw their chair across their room, ram their fist through the drywall and unleash a declaration that they will spearhead the effort to bring about the demise of the A-Net company it’s self before slinging their computer through their window and screaming out the hole of shattered glass with murderous rage. So I think they kind of time these things as best they can in the interest of public safety.

That’s pretty strange way to react to simple criticism and assertive consumerism. GW2 is not perfect. If you can’t deal with individuals pointing out when the king is naked, you should probably not play as every game is going to have flaws, and with it people who are not helpless sheep employing their right to complain about it.

NPC's should revive Players

It is very immersion breaking when my character spends 15 minutes to a half an hour rescuing some outpost that has been over-run, killing and driving off the hostile mobs, reviving the NPCs, and single-handedly putting the outpost back on the map, only to get killed while valiantly turning back another attack only to see all the NPCS casually walk right over your body on the way to reviving one of their buddies. They already have the animations and basic code, you would think they would want to show some appreciation to the players who save their necks so often.

Please consider adding this, it would make playing in the mostly vacant zones so much more bearable.

Phantasmal Disenchanter Fails to Pop

So I have an enemy engaged and targeted, I have two illusions up, and I hit my skill button for Phantasmal Disenchanter, and I get the painfully long summon animation and then…. nothing. The phantasam does not appear. Completely worthless skill.

Maybe it will start working tomorrow. I have noticed that some skills are totally bugged the first time you equip them for the entire session untill you re-log.

When I first got he supply crate skill elite on my engineer, it would pop randomly. That did not go away until I re-logged.

Yea I know, you wont fix this, your too busy grinding out new content with more built in bugs that you will also never fix.

Yes please label whatever pleases you Anet, as that seems to be your standard response to bug reports.

This is still bugged on HOD. Did the harpies yesterday, and after the last cow is launched, nothing happens, no assistant, no assistant going to get more cows, just a frozen NPC who turns into a vendor that does not work either. The catapult never becomes interactive.

Engineer bugs compilation

My alt engineer just hit 30 and got his first elite skill Supply Crates.

It is great fun, but it seems to pop at random times, in addition to when I call it.

It seems to happen most often when I am swapping weapons or using my heal skill.

I have checked my skill key bindings and it is still set to 9, plus I rarely if ever use keys anywhere near 9, so I doubt is is fumble fingers etc.

It’s annoying and somewhat embarrassing when it pops when I am just standing around talking to people in town.

Please verify, and fix when you can.

Since one can heal a downed player in Fractals about as fast at the extended animation and cast time for this, I am not going to waste a slot on it any more.

I see now where I was mis-lead, it revives defeated friendly NPCs, which is very useful in personal stories, so I assumed it should work for players. Silly me.

So, one more mostly useless elite skill.

The Battle Standard does not revive fallen team members in the new Fractal dungeons.

Seems unfair as I have not heard of any other class having their elite skill nerfed in these new dungeons.

Dredge Fractal Boss Bugged

We know the drill, lure him under the molten buckets and they were supposed to make him vulnerable. Well after twenty on target bucket drops, 19 has 0 effect. The one that did work, allowed us to get his health down to 50%, however, he immediately healed up since none of our regular attacks did any appreciable damage. This was an experienced team that knew what they were doing. 0 damage in 20 minutes!
This has to have been the most bugged, broken and worst content release yet.
Everything in the lost shores event so far has been bugged. Scavenger hunt/investigation, one word Noll. The attacks south of spiral never appeared. Way to waste my time, Anet!

Issues with getting in dungeon instances

My first two Fractal experiences were as follows:

Fractal group 1: Half the part could not see the other half. Some players could not attack anything. Team wipe after a few minutes.

Fractal group 2: Got to the dredge boss, but he was bugged. Entire team could wail on him non-stop, 0 damage. After about twenty on target molten bucket drops, only one had any effect and boss health went down to 50% briefly. Despite whole team wailing away, he healed up and after 20 minutes with 0 damage, team decided it was completely A SNAFU and left.

Best dungeon ever… NOT, major FAIL.

The Dredge Boss was bugged last night. Out of twenty on target bucket drops on him, only one appeared to have the desired effect. 30 minutes wasted.

In fact apart from that one time, the rest of the time it took 0 damage. Totally bugged.

It would be nice if your glorified and gimmicky way to beat the boss actually worked as designed. Please fix.
Overall general buggyness. My first Fractal group was totally FUBAR. Half the team could not see the other half. Some could not attack at all. Big Fail. I know how to play, but the bugs make it impossible in these obviously untested free throwaway designs.

99% of the time, if I sort my items to sell within the TP window, about 1/3 fail when you try to sell them. If I leave them unsorted, they all sell just fine. I am talking about sorting them by price.

I think it is unfortunate that they design an event that puts you at a disadvantage based on choices you made during character creation.

Arenanet is showing its bias and bigotry against large characters, by putting in an event which results in large characters, (Norn and Char) becoming the targets of derision and scorn because the environment of the jumping puzzle puts them at a disadvantage and obscures the puzzle for others.

I am still waiting for the schill to come out claiming to be a max size Norn who aced the puzzle first try, right.

A good game designer would not design a dungeon that required you to be a certain height to shoot over an obstacle, but Arenanet seems to have no compunction telling Norn and Char tough luck when it comes to tight spaces and jumping puzzles. New players ought to be warned that the camera completely bugs out in tight spaces for large characters, and the large character models completely obscure the path in jumping puzzles.

As long as jumping puzzles are optional, that’s fine, but requiring one as they did with the Mad King fight crosses the line. If they are going to require jumping puzzles to complete regular content, then they should fix things so all players have an equal chance.

Arenanet may have destroyed specialization for the sake of the dramatic, GW2 is still played by people, who are wont to be jerks from time to time. The marketing may say ‘no grind’ but this whole 80s only thing is a symptom of people trying to avoid the grind involved in getting enough tokens to purchase the cool gear skins. They don’t want under 80s because they want to finish each run as fast as possible which is understandable when you realize just how many runs are required to get the number of tokens required.

Please don’t make jumping puzzles an integral part of any future dungeons or instances, unless you reverse the inherent disadvantage players with large Norn or Char characters face.

Given the size of some of the jumping puzzle areas/ledges etc. these puzzles penalize large characters. You should not design a game where legitimate character choices turn out to be major performance blockers.

If jumping puzzles cannot be fixed through better design and fixing various camera issues, then please keep jumping puzzles completely optional and provide alternate paths towards instance completion.

Can you imagine the QQ if Arenanet released a dungeon where short players could not complete it because the could not shoot over a strategically placed barrier?

Why do some people think the tallest Norn have a disadvantage in jumping puzzles?

The only thing I can think of is that your size, and the lack of a first person view, results in your view being obscured of any narrow, small ledge/area in a jumping puzzle, and those annoying camera problems you get in tight spaces.

But is that just me, is there someone out there who excels at jumping puzzles with a max size Norn?

In thinking it over, it seems as though most jumping puzzles were designed with Asura or small Humans as the target user. It’s not fair as I just don’t see anything significant that gives tall characters an advantage elsewhere in the game.

I personally don’t care for jumping puzzels, so when I rolled a Norn, it did not matter to me as at that point, jumping puzzles were optional.

Now that jumping puzzles are starting to be required to complete content like the Mad King instance, I am having second thoughts.

Combined with extra height causing problems with the camera in tight areas like tunnels and staircases, height seems to be a disadvantage. It’s bad game design, to allow players to size a character such that it does not work in parts of the game.

Pistol Sounds Way Too Loud

I like to listen to my own tracks, using the renamed playlist feature, however, I have to turn down the game sounds, but even when turned down so that every game sound is very low, for some reason pistol sounds are still at max volume and very irritating as well are broken.

Yea, I know, I have criticized you guys plenty, so perhaps you will ignore my issues, but I am sure this will annoy even the most devoted fan boy when they cant listen to Justin Bieber without ear damage from the pistol shots.

One feature I really enjoyed and drew inspiration from was the armor previews of the dungeon armor from dungeon armor vendors in Lions Arch.

Recently the previews stopped working, the icons and the previews all show generic armors, not the dungeon uniques.

I have provided a screen shot that shows the generic helmet being displayed in preview instead of the nobleman’s helmet with its distinctive wings.

DE NPC Hints

So many meta-events and dynamic events, especially in the 70+ zones, have very specific sometimes non-intuitive ways in which the objectives must be reached. For example, in Grenth, it will fail unless enough players take the special buff so they can kill the shades. I watched this event fail 3 times in a row last night despite there being more than enough players present. It failed because not enough players there knew about the buff. The NPC’s one ‘guards’ for this event spew lots of dialog, but none of it is usefull. It would help a great deal if they could actually mention the buff, how to get it etc.

This would help in several other meta-events like Lyssa. Like Grenth, it fails often even when there are more than enough players present because the players don’t know what to do (i.e. guard the seals.)

Please consider having the related NPC’s give out hints to these events.

Best Profession for DE Farming?

Elementalists seem to have the fastest tab target AOEs, hence takes the least effort.

Rangers require more fussy targeting and problematic pet behavior.
Melee classes (warrior, guardian etc.) – not – Longbow AOE is too slow, mobs are dead long before the animation completes.

Other melee AOEs requires your toon to move on top of the mobs, much slower than tab targeting.

The Elementalist is the mean around which the entire game has been designed.

It is the hardest class to mess up.

Seriously, roll one, run a few hearts in the human starter zone, you will see what a face roll class it is in 10 minutes or less.

Cursed Shore has been hosed up big time for the last few days 10-12-2012.

Trading Post in Caer Shadowfain does not work.

Anchorage Waypoint DE seems to be stuck in a permanent state of contention.

The burn bodies DE does not appear.

I can see one glitch, but it is going downhill pretty fast.

100 blades seems to miss more often after using skill 5 to rush right up to an enemy. If you are too close to an enemy, it loses effectiveness.

The trait that is supposed to auto fire Balanced Stance seems to do nothing.

I find that in Orr if you try and use GS skill 3 or GS skill 4 into a group of on rushing enemies in a Dynamic Event, you get a bunch of ‘invulnerable’ messages instead of damage messages. Makes it hard to earn your participation requirement when more than a couple of players are around.

It is not a bug, but a design decision that bothers me the most which is that although warriors are supposed be be highly skilled at many weapons and weapon swapping many of our traits are single weapon specific which means it it not optimal to switch weapons since it means you will have to take a significant damage reduction. It would make more sense if traits that increase damage should be applied to either all melee or all ranged weapons. The way it is now restricts you to making a trait decision and then have to stick with using just that weapon.

Whirlwind attack behaves illogically if you pop it when crippled or up against a wall. Even though it appears to look like you are hitting the close by mob many times, it often only registers as one hit. It appears to do more damage if you use in when your are not prevented from moving and you simply whirl through an enemy.

I sometimes think that all three zones in Orr were left to last and have the least refinement put into the dynamic events and general mob population. It plays like it was rushed out and that to make up for a lack of good dynamic events throughout the zone, the devs threw in the towel and just said lets up the respawn rates and the general mob density, job done. As a result most players stay in a few key areas while some areas like the extreame south east edge and the western edge are rarely visited and suicide to visit solo.

There area also quite a few defend X posts that if you try to defend them with less than 3 people you will be over run with a constant flow of mobs some of which spawn right behind you.

It can be a fun zone when the population is high enough, but when everyone is in WvW, not so much.

My first time in Cursed Shore the only DE’s that worked were the two Penitent path ones. I stayed in zone for 3 hours and nothing else happened. What a let down.
