Mordrem Invasion: Wrap-up 14 September 2015

Thank you for the update, Gaile! Many of us are still wondering if Developers plan to have more future events in which Blooms can be earned? If we should save our Blooms or spend them now because there is no point in holding onto them? Any official word yet? Thanks again!

A big disappointment from start to finish, i hope this wont be a taste for what’s coming with HoT :’x

The last Heart of Thorns beta was fantastic, and I can assure you it was nothing like the Mordrem Invasion. It feels like Silverwastes (encouraging teamwork & unity), but on a much larger scale with many more things to do.

As far as the Mordrem Invasion, it is my theory that A-Net is focusing most of its resources on getting ready for the Heart of Thorns launch next month, but still wanted to release the 4-day event that most likely wasn’t intended to be focused on tag & port game play.

Henchmen no, heroes yes

But we can all agree as amazing as customizing your heroes was, it destroyed the multiplayer aspect of GW1 real fast

Yes, I should have specified that I am including heroes when speaking of henchmen as well as both only being limited to dungeons & fractals.

Based on Anet’s responses it doesn’t sound like we’re going to see an event like this one again anytime soon.

I really don’t believe A-Net intended the Mordrem Invasion to be a Hit & Run stampede, but think the majority of their resources is focused on releasing Heart of Thrones next month as it should be.

Mordrem Invasion - 5 and proud

Jax.4903

I agree with everyone who feels that this event was the least fun in the history of GW2 because we were forced into a vicious cycle of killing an enemy or two and immediately way-pointing to the next battle to have any hope of earning 10 to 15 blooms per invasion.

The first day of the invasion, I did stay at each battle from start to finish, resurrecting as many players as possible, and was lucky when I earned 5 blooms. If I continued to play that way I would have never been able to afford buying a potion. In the end, the hit & run mechanics didn’t cause events to fail because there were always incoming players to finish a battle, but it really did hurt the spirit of teamwork, community, and enjoyment.

As others have said, don’t blame the (stressed) GW2 gamers who are playing in the most efficient way possible so they are not wasting their time, blame those who crafted the Mordrem Invasion.

On a positive note, the new HoT Beta area plays very much like Silverwastes which encourages comradery and teamwork. A-Net is doing a fantastic job there!

2 entire maps working like that. No one cares. (SW and DT)
4-day small event have this mechanic. 1000+ posts in forums. WTF?

You think people don’t see the maps that do this? Its seen. People don’t like it, unless they are the ones doing it. Why do you think there is so much irritation from it?

Kiteisa is exactly right! You will NEVER have a successful Breach & Vinewraith in Silverwaste without organization, teamwork, and commitment to each Fort & Lane.

I can’t be the only one who feels Mordrem Invasion battle system is backwards? Anyone who hopes to earn enough blooms for a decent reward in this short 3-day event is forced into an endless cycle of tagging an enemy and immediately waypointing to the next battle.

I don’t blame people for playing like this because A-Net has given us no other option if you consider the stacks needed to obtain an acceptable amount of blooms at the end of each invasion.

This is definitely not fun for new players, nor does it encourage teamwork among veterans. Countless times, I’ve been in Mordrem battles abandoned and lost because too many players waypoint. Instead players should have been rewarded with more stacks for committing to each battle and seeing it through from start to finish before leaving for the next.

Reward Distribution (from Dulfy)

You get 20 bonus Mordrem Blooms per day per map and a Vine-Covered Crate containing Memories of Scarlet Box or Arid Dusty Satchel. In addition, depending on your individual event completion, you can get some extras.

If you get 0-4 stacks of the Invasion Defender buff, you get 0 Mordrem Blooms
If you get 5-9 stacks of the Invasion Defender buff, you get 5 Mordrem Blooms
If you get 10-19 stacks of the Invasion Defender buff, you get 10 Mordrem Blooms
If you get 20-30+ stacks of the Invasion Defender buff, you get 15 Mordrem Blooms

This means that you can get 60 Mordrem Blooms from the daily for 3 maps and then anywhere from 0-15 Mordrem Blooms per map depending on how many Invasion Defender buff stacks you get.

Sadly, there’s still too many people who just avoid MMOs altogether because people can’t act like respectful human beings to each other as soon as they start communicating over the internet.

Internet manners weren’t as bad when online gaming first started, but now extremely rude behavior in games & forums seems to have become the accepted norm among many and it is only reinforced by the anonymity of the net. Is it because players forget their words & actions are impacting other people or because they don’t care?

Having said that, I have encountered many nice, helpful players in GW2 and feel it has a better community than many of the MMORPGs I have played since Ultima Online.

Anniversary Sales [End.]

I think this anniversary sale was a bit misleading as far as the “bringing back classic gem store items” angle. Everyone was hoping for some rare outfits & accessories, but instead we were offered white/black angel wings (on sale not long ago) and discounts on existing gem store outfits & items. If anything this sale was more focused on selling bag-bank-crafting slots etc.

Granted, I spent over $50 during this sale on necessity items for maintaining my nine characters, but I was really hoping for fun cosmetic options that we have not seen up for sale in a long time and extremely disappointed as far as sales event go.

thief or mesmer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Thief is awesome at PvP, but arguably worst at PvE because main focus is single-target damage. They do have shortbow that offers a few AOE attacks, but doesn’t do a lot of damage.

Mesmer is excellent at both ranged (Greatsword) and melee (Sword) with a great mix of single/AOE attacks.

I have mixed feelings about GW2 going Free-to-Play. From a business perspective, it would have been smarter for A-Net to do a level cap at 60 because it would have forced a purchase decision and questioned “Did you enjoy GW2 enough to purchase the full game?” As it stands now, many players will level a character of two to 80 and move onto greener free MMORPG pastures. Less chat options and inventory space are really not that restrictive to the casual, bypassing player

What is the max free 2 play account lvl in game – 60?

Everyone was assuming there was a level cap and 60 would have been the wise choice. It would have offered enough game play for potential buyers to make a purchase decision instead of giving the entire game away for free. Many players won’t be hindered by the restrictions. I could live with a smaller inventory and less chat options.

What is the key to staying stealthed in PvP?

As a brand new thief, I am constantly amazed by how long some can stealth even when not using a daggers as an offhand weapon for Cloak & Dagger. It seems like the most popular build since the skills/trait revision is Dagger/Pistol which enables some to be PvP ghosts, but not me.

I have already checked out Metabattle and played around with the suggested builds, but cannot stealth for more than a few seconds. What am I missing?

Can anyone offer some up-to-date tips, combos, and builds? Thanks in advance!

I recently paid full price for my wife’s account and she doesn’t use many of the features that are restricted to F2P players. So, yeah, some have a right to be a little upset.

A-Net should have made it an extended trial for new users like level 60 being the cap which would have forced a decision; those who really enjoy the trial and want to continue WILL purchase it.

Unlimited play excluding HoT (which we all have to pay for anyway) is a little bit of a slap to the face for those who have paid full price, but we’ll live. Hopefully, more people will buy GW2, but I doubt it when it is now being offered free. Most will probably level a character or two to level 80, and move onto greener free MMORPG pastures.

why are not more people wearing wings?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jax.4903

Jax.4903

Personally I don’t care for either because they look like paper wings to me.

Yes, the wings physics are all wrong. If they were stiffer, had some feather ripple, and a more pronounced wing movement, they would be great.

The reason I didn’t buy Black Wings is because I didn’t want my character to become lost is a generic sea of Black Wings. I always try to stand out by choosing character outfits not often seen.

Guild wars 2 anniversary sale [merged]

Jax.4903

I wish A-Net would release all the items at once, or at least leave them up for sale in the gem store during the entire event. Even knowing what is going to go on sale would help. It’s not like people are going to drop $10 on each new outfit or accessory that comes along in an economy with such high unemployment and the stock market taking a plunge. Money is tight for most people.

I already bought the Lich outfit and I would buy the White Wings and Balthazar’s Regalia too, BUT I don’t know what else is going up for sale. So, now I am passing on those items and if nothing else is released during this Anniversary Sale that suits my tastes, I buy nothing else. So, A-Net loses my purchases and I lose out on limited edition items. It’s a lose-lose for everyone in my case. Your millage may vary.

In other words, I’m still holding out for Bunny Ears & Butterfly/Dragonfly Wings… Hint-HINT

Does “old favorites” include bunny ears? I am in a guild with over 500 members and bunny ears have been a hot topic this past year by many who wish to buy them.

In fact, I don’t quite understand the concept of limited editions of GW2 digital gear. While some people may rush to purchase it, I think A-Net would have more sales overall if all items were left in the gem store once released.

Shiro will not fix Revenant

in Revenant

Jax.4903

The revenant feels weak at the moment. And I really had problems using all the skills with this rather complicated energy system. Then you want to use this skill, a second later it doesn’t work cuz you lack the mana you need etc. They really have to tweak something. Especially weapons skills: energy and cooldown?

This is exactly how I felt. The revenant requires too much micromanagement. Instead of having an kitten nal of tools to react to each unique situations, I felt like I was playing Clicker Heroes just for basic survival.

I guess I am just surprised at the current state of the revenant which feels more like an alpha than beta. In many betas I have played, classes are usually overpowered and need to be toned down, but the revenant needs a major DPS increase just to be on par with all other GW2 classes. Hopefully, the developers intend to use player feedback and data mine from this beta to shape and form the revenant which is currently in a very raw and ineffective state.

Wow, you people who are claiming the revenant is fine fine as is… have you even played one? Currently, they are by far the weakest DPS class in GW2 and no amount of utility is going to fix that. A level 80 sporting all exotic gear with the best runes/sigils SHOULD NOT struggle to beat a basic mob one-on-one. If you want that kind of challenge, play your level 80 character with level 5 gear, but don’t say a broken beta class is fine, dandy, and fun.

I agree what OP says in here. Revenant is not bringing anything new to the game.

In the Revenant’s current state, the only new thing they are bringing to the game is the first truly broken and ineffective class. Basic mob fights feel like trying to solo elites and revenants are nothing but cannon fodder & free kills in PvP.

I was so excited and couldn’t wait until this beta weekend. After playing the revenant for a few hours, I’m done and have experienced my biggest disappointment in video game history.

When a Revenant struggles to defeat a Crimson Moa or a Lashtail Devourer one-on-one, you know DPS is severely lacking and needs to be addressed. I was so excited to take the revenant into Silverwaste for a testspin until I found basic mob fights took too long and I lost too much health when within melee range. Being so underpowered gave me the impression that the revenant class is going to require a constant activation and rotation of skills just for basic survival versus using a specific skill when a certain situation arises. I am not a fan of the Clicker Heroes games, nor having to focus my attention on micromanaging my skills. Lastly, the stances I tried felt very similar; nothing to really differentiate and to define them.

I realize this is a beta, but one expects a heavy armor-wearing class to be capable of dealing decent damage. The DPS of the revenant needs a major increase. As it stands now, all a revenant has to offer is team support because they certainly aren’t effective at soloing PvE content.

Why do players get multiple portal drops?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jax.4903

Jax.4903

Whatever the case, the RNG system is flawed and needs to be fixed so everyone has an equal chance. If it was truly random, the majority of portal winners would not be repeatedly be getting multiple portals. No one is that lucky; it defies the odds and logic. Hopefully the developers will address this by reworking the system; however, if they know RNG doesn’t favor all players equally, they sure aren’t going to disclose that information to the player community.
