I think the proposed changes are great, would make scepter/focus a little less “clunky” on some skills.

I don’t particularly like the fresh-air and air2-changes, simply because of the black clouds: I think the game is already packed with way too many visual effects and those indicators and/or the wind-up time isn’t a huge deal, so I’d rather go with less clutter on the screen. ^^’

A ground-targeted tooth – even thinking about it makes me wanna jump with joy. ^^’

i get flamed at least 3 times per day because fresh air and lightning strike are both instacast with no animation, this would kinda solve that problem :P
the clouds wouldn’t even have to be too big.

I like some of these ideas. The invuln on scepter 5 doesn’t need a reduced CD imo, because it’s already really strong: the only invuln in the game that can somewhat compete with it is DIstorsion, and it’s on a 60s CD (or 45ish with 6 points in the last trait line), and you have to have 3 clones up and IP to reach 4s.The CD is already 50s on Obsidian Flesh. But the ground targeted dragon’s tooth is a must. I don’t play scepter elementalist that much because I always felt unnatural that this skill requires a target and phoenix doesn’t.

thanks for the feedback! the reason i wanted to reduce the cd of obsi flesh a bit was the fact that some classes get f skills recharge on 50% hp like:

“Recharge all of your shatter skills when your health drops below the threshold.
Health Threshold: 50%”

but i do know that the cd is already shorter than other invuls, so i only reduced it by 5 seconds. i guess of all the things i listed this would have the least priority anyway.

and @phanta, slicks shoes should change for engis, maybe a single stun for every target instead of multiple, or less “stun circles” on the ground, or after 1 stun and you dont move anymore you can’t get stunned another time.

you can’t compare the builds they run in na to eu, you can maybe run this stuff in na where the overall level is lower with only a handful of good teams, in eu you would simply get rekt.

i played in both regions and playing a non thief or guard dps role in eu is a lot harder.

I think especially the S/F-Ele would fit in the EU meta perfectly, because he offers tons of stuff that are direct counters to the meta while also offering tons of DPS and utility:

Swirling winds and magnetic wave are amazing against celestial engi and shoutbow and help out against thief and mesmer, certain builds more than others. It completely shuts down lich form and destroys powerranger (2 uncommon builds at the highest ranked team leagues, but a nice bonus).

The Lockdown/CC with Gale and Comet is also insane, because lots of builds use only one stunbreaker and/or stability, like shoutbow, celestial engi.

The lack of condi-removal isn’t too bad as well, because swirling winds and magnetic wave can deflect most commonly used conditions in this meta.

There are also almost no very high toughness builds out there atm., mostly celestial, which means that with the high sustained and burst dps that the ele has, he’ll melt down any target within seconds.

He has high mobility, very high utility in teamfights, has cleave, can even rez against cleave thanks to mist form and obsidian flesh, has safestomps, tons of blast-finishers and a fire-field etc.

The only downfall is that he’s not too good at 1v1’s against common 1v1 builds and is instakilled by thieves when his CD’s are down. But that’s why you’re not playing him as a roamer that searches for 1v1’s, but as a roamer that searches for teamfights.

It’s silly to compare the S/F-Ele to a DPS-guard or panic strike thief btw., bc. they offer vastly different things: it’s all about teamcomposition and knowing the exact role you have to play, but simply by looking at the meta, I can’t see why the S/F-Ele should be dismissed.

Also, 90% of the builds used in NA are the exact same as in EU and the best NA teams have been able to compete very well with EU teams, so why exactly won’t anything other than DPS-Guard or Thief as zerker DPS work?

problem is, even if it’s good against engi and warrior it’s still hard to kill them (on any berserker) but has too many counters in the dps section, power necro, thief, mesmer and dps guard kill it. it’s also not as easy against power rangers, imo around 50/50.

there are too many counters to be viable, even if the build itself is a counter to certain meta builds atm.

i would like a strong elite on a short cooldown for dps eles, like basilisk venom or entangle.

and a good heal like withdraw signet is all nice and stuff but a mitigation heal would be nice.

im talking about berserker amulet specs, so either static discharge or some strange hgh or flamethrower variations.

other classes like encro or ranger (to some extent) dont benefit as much of celestial amulets. what i hope is that they will make these amulets more viable for the profs that dont use them atm.

imo the perfect situation would be 1 viable condi, celes, berserker (maybe utility or support) build for every class. that’s not gonna happen though.

currently the berserk meta is dominated by thieves and guardians, guardian because it can keep thief in check.

mesmer is also tolerated as a berserk class but gets pushed out of the top tier by thieves. it can be viable because of the portal and utility it bring and is unlike thief not weak against medi guard.

if we rate Thief kitten and guard as A-S and mesmer A what are the other classes?

on B rank i would put ranger and necro, not really viable nut also not 100% unviable.

everything below this is rarely played and can even cripple your team.

fresh air is C
engi and warrior are D

they can’t survive on their own, need to heavily build around it, get pushed out by other classes etc etc.

hopefully with the expansion we will see more viable options for the lesser played dps classes, as in hammer engi, sword ele, whatever warrior.

what i wish for the classes that already have viable berserk specs is viable condi/celes/util builds. this is wishful thinking i guess and will not happen in the near future.

i played fresh air on and off for a long time, always going back to d/d celestial because nothing else is truly viable.

when i play fresh air i play it for a couple of days just to find out that i could simply play thief or guard (or even mesmer) and have it easier + i can do more for my team.
all that fresh air is is a 900 ranged, no boon removal shatter mesmer with laughable cooldowns and no portal/moa.

berserk balance is really bad atm, it’s either play guard or thief or go home (mesmer is okayish).

i made balance suggestions a couple of times but nothing was ever done (surprise) other than buffing water #2, the most useless skill of the weaponset, and the speed increase of earth #3.

what the build needs to be somewhat better is:

- overhaul of the auto attacks, they are slow, clunky and deal unreliable damage.
basically only air is good.

- dragon’s tooth should be a ground target cast.

- shatterstone should be replaced by something that is worth using.

- a good heal for a berserk build, signet is nice and stuff but it’s more of a HoT, bad for fast fights. other heals are crap too.

- a strong elite with a short cooldown, like basilisk venom

- cantrip mastery should make lightning flash 1200 range

- cd reductions on defensive skills would make it so much easier

- an immob please, water #2 maybe?

i dont think we will get another class after the revenant and tbh im fine with that.
with every coming expansion they will introduce 1 new specialisation for every class which is enough. if they release expansions every year or 1.5 year i don’t have any concerns regarding class and build diversity.

what this game needs is a better matchmaking and leaderboards with rewards, ingame tournaments (+ the esl and whatever else we have), more pvp exclusive and more frequent balance changes.

if sPvP was a standalone PvP it would be way more popular than it is now. i think pvp would really benefit if (pvp only) was made f2p for the vanilla classes and skills/traits.

we’re going in the right direction, gw2 pvp could be so much. now it’s up to anet (and a bit to the community).

Idea: Automated Tournaments

the problem i have with normal tournaments atm is that it takes ages to recieve the rewards and sometimes they even forget them… game generated tournaments would give you your rewards instantly without having to wait 2 weeks or more.

another thing is that many players don’t want to or don’t know how to register for such esl tournaments, ingame registration is easier and would lead to more teams participating.

i can see why you don’t like the 10g, so maybe if the tournaments would not be everyday a no fee could still work.

what we also need (if they ever implement such tournaments) is a rewatch option for players.

idk about the tiers, the question is if there are enough teams to even make such tiers.

the new guild leaderboards (or team leaerboards as most pvp teams are also guilds) could be used for this too.

overall it was an interesting system with certain flaws in it

what i suggest are ingame tournaments that take place on certain weekdays only at a specific time, for example on mondays and fridays at 8pm.
in a special menu a “participate” button will be availlable for a couple of minutes to sign up with your team.
every teammember will have to pay an entry fee of maybe 10g. a team must consist of 5 players.

8 teams will participate in a tournament and if one tournament is full, a second, third etc will be generated.

i don’t know what the gw2 engine can handle but if possible the semi/finals will be bo3 matches. if this is not possible all matches will be single elimination.

as reward the first second and third places will get glory, the old pvp currency but with a new purpose:

glory can be spent at a special glory vendor for various things:

the 3 currently unobtainable pvp sets
glorious hero armor
glorious hero weapons (needs to be made)
new titles
new finishers
trophies that can be sold for gold
gift of exploration (for a good amount of glory)

the entry fee would act as a gold sink, mmr would affect the team matchups and maybe there should be a pvp rank entry requirement (or something else) so that unexperienced players dont get farmed by stronger teams or alt accounts or when the mmr failed :P

feel free to point out concerns or add new ideas

in the early stages of the beta there was no revealed so you could do a backstab and insta go into stealth again. obviously this was op and got changed.

afaik mesmer scepter auto also applied confusion back then.

jalis #7 is ok, it helps you not getting stunned, revenant has no vigour and only 2 stun breaks of which one costs a lot of energy (ik its bugged right now) and the other one is a minor gm trait.

revenant also doesn’t have that much condi cleanse, the 30s elite, the traited legend swap and the traited immunity.

so what can you do? you wait until he 1) used his heal, then you immob him. 2) if he switches to mallyx to get rid of the immob you stun him.

jalis elite is bugged as stated above.

demon:

mallyx #9 just stand outside the field. condi revenants will be using maces, close range weapons. dodge the axe 5 pull and you will be fine.

more problematic is the mallyx skill that removes 2 boons and gives you 3 confusions. this skill should cost 35 energy instead of 20.

the mallyx elite is borderline, you can switch on/off it for the invul but you wont be able to use any other skills in the meantime so this one kinda needs testing.
could be solved with icd of the resistance trait and the runes.

hammer:

look at the hammer skills and how the #2’s highest damage is at range, it’s your own fault for trying to range them… go close into melee range and they won’t have much.
d/f ele already renders projectiles useless with the 3 skills it has and nobody has cried about it.
→#4 is fine.

hammer #5 is underpowered, you need to be blind to not see the animation with a 1,75s casting time which should even be reduced to 1 second or max 1.25. the range could be reduced to 900 though.

mace:

the fire field is narrow, you can step out of it and you get maybe 1s of burning.

revenant mace #3:

this skill acts as a leap (not as combo finisher but in the way it is executed) similar to heartseeker and burning speed.

by turning your camera above the character you can cut the leaping distance, but this skill is either just bugged or gets affected too much by the ground you stand on. it will turn you in a random direction mid-leap and you will not hit where you aimed for.

getting 6 might stacks out of your burning field is already tricky enough but this bug makes it more of a random thing..

a fix would be appreciated

tbh auto attack needs to be 3/4s cast time instead of 1 and drop the hammer needs to be 1.25 or even 1 instead of 1.75.

the hammer is big, it’s slow so if people manage to dodge 3/4s pindowns then it’s your own fault if you, you not in yourself but in general, can’t dodge that skill…

even dragon’s tooth (ok it’s 900 range) is 1s and i have yet to see a (decent) player to not dodge this.

lowering the casting time and lowering the range too would maybe be a good thing.

to give out big rewards the matchmaking and the leaderboards would have to be perfect, i guess the rewards are what they are because it’s still a test season.

having said that, i still feel like the rewards are a bit bad. at least give 1-5 full glorious hero armor, 6-10 5 pieces, 11-15 4 pieces, 16-20 3 pieces, 21-25 2 and 26-50 one piece.

Necros are quite strong, they just need a solid team around them.

Making PvP Necro Viable

necro is not weak at all. the problem is just that everybody will focus the necro because he can be fatal in teamfights, way more than a condi ranger or a condi engi.

necro’s combat mobility is not the greatest that’s true and this is also the reason why many necros play it with double teleport.

so i hope the necro specialisation will change things, maybe a leap, maybe some vigour and hopefully different than condi/power necro.

my ele focus burn doubles the damage after the first tick hitting 470 then 940.

edit: changed some runes and amulet and suddenly the burning damage went crazy ticking for random numbers lol.

port changes are a buff

been going through the maps now and rather than a nerf or a removal of teleport locations this update is a buff:

before when you failed your teleport (there were some rather tricky spots before) you were teleported infront of the location you wanted to teleport to, so you basically wasted your teleport. now it tells you that there is no valid path and you dont acidentally waste your teleport.

how experienced are you? for example i have 5600 played matches and 1750 on ele. ofc we dont expect the same amount but maybe half of it as engi to have the mechanics nailed down.

i don’t have a howler but i’m all for having it fixed, after all my incinerator was fixed too (and i still think flameseeker needs throw animations and footsteps).

maybe the problem is complicated and usually falls in priority for arenanet because effort/reward is not balanced.

forgive me my cheekyness but the looking for forum is just a mess so i’ll post this here:

hello we are team heavenly annoying from eu and we are looking for a highly skilled celestial rifle engineer.

we’re a group of very skilled individuals and each of us has thousands of matches in pvp and on the classes we play.

we already won certain tournaments or got to 2nd places (with different teamnames though) and have played in tog and tol.
the current teamcomp we’re aiming for is:

celestial d/d ele
celestial d/d / d/f ele
berserk meditation guard
berserk d/p thief
celestial rifle 2/3 kit engi

your role as engineer will be to roam and to dps, setup bursts and take out targets. if necessary you will have to defend a point from time to time when the eles are busy somewhere else. you will also be the preferred 2v2 partner for our eles and part of the dps trio of our comp.

what do we expect from you?

1. good knowledge about your class, you should know all the nifty things you can do as an engi.

2. know how to dps and be aggressive at the right moment.

3. know how to kite and retreat when you’re low. know the kiting rotations on different maps.

4. know how to relay a teammate when he is low. pull enemies, chill or immob them – keep them away from your teammates.

5. map awareness, watch the map, count enemies and make smart moves based on what you see.

6. willing to improve even when losing a match. you learn from mistakes so losing is not always bad.

7. be strong, wether if it’s 1v1, 2v2, tf or in communication. we don’t expect you to be the best engi in the world but we do have expectations on how good you should be.

8. be capable of speaking english. we are a multi-language team and we speak german and french but when we play we always speak english.

9. be able to play when the team plays. we play between 8pm and 11pm gmt almost every day.

10. we need you to be 18+ and from the eu because of arenanet’s rules.
