there is no immortal bunking. every support spec can lose in a 1v1 if you put the right thing against it. generally 1v1ing a support build on a decapped node is the biggest counter to it, if you’re not experienced enough in pvp to understand that, you have no right to complain about it.

When I see druids 3 vs 1 I have a right to complain about it. By the way… you don’t have the right to tell me I can’t complain about it.

guess what, those 3 people are simply bad. and yes, i do have the right to do that if you’re complaining about something that is completely balanced.

Remember glory days? Yeah, there was no real motivation for doing pvp besides… well doing pvp :P

I personally can’t wait till ranked are enabled again. I hate unranked due to 50/50 MM, skyhammer, spirit watch, no standard models etc.

getting and showing off phoenix/shark finishers (not farmed ones), walking around in cultural armor or high tier pvp armors in general was one of the biggest motivations ever. i got skins worth well over 3k gold just from what you’re calling “no real motivation”.

it’s not even about fun. june 23rd patch lowered the skill floor to such an extent that you don’t need any skill at all to achieve mediocre-good results.

i bet, if season 3 had no elite specs, and balance would be pre june 23rd (WTS2) with a couple of small buffs to:


ele plays d/d
war plays shoutbow
guard plays hammer medi or support
mesmer plays shatter
thief plays d/p and s/d
engi plays rifle celestial
necro plays condi (with some buffs because they were lacking back then)
ranger plays condi or power (also some buffs because they were lacking too, especially condi)

more than half of the players who got to legendary in season 2 would not make it that far anymore.

Fall Damage Traits

something i’d find interesting is on point/off point traits. take x% less damage while fighting on point for bunkers, deal x% more damage while fighting on point for dps, some uncreative examples that could be built on.

theoretically you could even encourage +1 playstyle with such traits. deal x% more damage damage every x seconds while fighting on a point but take x% more damage every x seconds. good for forcing a bunker off point in a 2v1, bad for holding points.

if they finally agree to split game modes we could have traits like those.

This goes against Anets philosophy for traits and effects. Take scrapper hammer for example. If it doesnt AA for 9nine9thousand, stun enemies into a coma, do your washing, walk your dog, and do all this from 1200 range, it’s got no place in the game.

Beef your trait idea up by 6 or 7 effects and you might be in the ballpark of where your trait needs to be.

and that’s exactly the main problem we currently face, appart from bad balance. weaponsets/traits do too much, have little weakness compared to release state of pvp and overall the gap between very good players and mediocre players has become quite narrow.

with this seasonal balance patch arenanet was able to overhaul the ranger’s sword auto, make axe 4 ground target and change warrior’s adrenal health.

that’s their capacity. what you suggest is something they might change when expansion 2 comes out, in a year or so.

people, don’t request stuff that takes too much work, because they will never add it.

best way to balance wvw is, add the pvp gear/runes/sigils system.

remove food buffs.

wvw is so terribly balanced with all those op runes and buffs that i can get bleeding to tick for 170 per stack or apply 8 confusion with 1 skill…

and then start splitting skills depending on the game mode. who cares if it’s confusing as long as it makes the game better….

P.S: From the looks of it staff thief could expect the next nerfbat. Someone that didn’t know dodge key existed complained about Vault’s damage.

to be fair, in theory vault deserves to be nerfed. not because it’s broken or too strong in the current game, but because compared to backstab it is easier to land, has more utility, is aoe and deals the same amount of damage. it’s just another source of power creep.

Imo lets not even talk about bruiser role when we take a look what rev is supposed to do.

I fail to see “bruiser” between lines. Causing chaos is far from bruiser with no damage. Working as intended, its tradeoff for lack of condi removal. Take survival from rev vs power specs and damage and rev will become a running joke. The only thing that keeps rev in meta is damage, without it you might as well play something else.

go and read all the other class descriptions, you will find out that about none of them are accurate….

talk as much as you want, fact is that rev has a) too much damage for its survivability, or b) too much survivability for its damage, and one of those has to change. and this is coming from a player who played rev competitively.

Exactly! Why would anyone take a rev if its DPS is reduced to bruiser level? Take a Scrapper/War instead.

rev has the highest mobility out of those and the best chase potential.

if you 1v1 an ele on a neutral node you already won the fight. you’re rendering the enemy’s support useless by forcing it into a 1v1.

if you try to kill it on a capped node then you’re the one to blame.

in teamfights ele can be focused easily. bait the invul, kill it afterwards.

scrapper is not supposed to kill an ele, your burst and pressure is usually too low.

necro can kill it, mesmer can kill it, revenant can.

d/f ele also doesn’t have much mobility. if he’s sitting on a capped node, ignore it. force a teamfight somewhere else. when the ele comes, outrotate him and decap the node.

not really a fan of the fact that you run with basically 0 condi cleanse… i can understand the thought behind taking elemental surge but tbh that trait is just garbage you you lose way too much by taking arcane instead of earth.

runes are also questionable.

and arcane wave is better than arcane blast for elemental surge. wave is aoe, surge is only single target. wave can’t be reflected and can hit people in stealth.

if you want to run an instagib build tempest is not the way to go, but s/d with lightning rod.

Arguably, but AOE CC shouldn’t be a thing in the first place.

i would say balance is at an all time low and diversity is basically nonexistent.

the reason why dragonhunter is unviable? because it’s too onedimensional and has been nerfed quite a lot. on release it was broken so they nerfed it. then it was nerfed because bad players kept crying, then it was nerfed because of wvw. the spec is good against player that don’t know what happens if you walk into a trap. if you play around the traps.. then.. well, dh is useless.

chronomancer needs to be nerfed the most
herald needs damage reduction
if tempest needs to be nerfed is debatable.. i feel like the spec has enough downsides to be balanced. yes it’s boring to play and play against, but not necessarily broken.

overall elite specs are still too strong, be it reaper or scrapper or whatever and i would like to see them nerfed even further.

on the other hand i would welcome buffs to other specs, even if they’re niche builds. we have many useless skills in this game that could benefit from a buff. ele glyphs, thief traps, to name a few.

what i dislike the most is that 90% of the time both teams run the same setup with the same builds and amulets… it’s disgusting.

I strongly agree that Arcance Shield cd should be reduced. It does too little for it’s 75s cd.

Blinding Ashes needs a buff, but I’m not sure what’s the right buff.

Make it a 5 second icd. That way it will synergize with burning precision.

tbh, running condi cleanse is a waste. no matter what you do, you won’t be able to kill a mercenary chronomancer or a berserker anyway. the only reason i take it is to have team utility.

lightning flash is a must have, fresh air scepter ele is a kiting build, no lightning flash no kiting. arcane shield is a double-edged sword, it provides instant defense + burst damage.

dps ele is just in a very sad state, you lack survivability and you lack damage.

i play this game since beta, seen all specs and all metas. i can clearly tell when a build is overperforming in a way that it makes bad players better than they are, and good players close to invincible. meta chronomancer is definitely overtuned, herald too but to a lesser degree.

it’s cute that people like you try to whiteknight the build but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s broken.

as a main ele i offered balance ideas to help balance d/d ele when it was broken. if you can’t do that then you understand nothing about what’s healthy for the scene and what’s not.

take warrior with 24 sec resistance and 880 health gain per second and than we talk…

can’t the Mesmer just strip the resistance in <2s and then just burst the warrior into oblivion? or are we talking a legendary tier warrior vs an amber Mesmer? If that’s the case then I give it a 50/50 chance.

not with the meta build. but you can just block and kite or go invul or moa or stun… it’s not like the mesmer can’t do anything when resistance is up.

problem with this is, they need to balance for 2v2s, they need to find a system which can’t abuse during a match.

what happens if you bring 2 cleric tempests?
you could say when the timer ends the team with the most damage dealt wins (like in blade and soul or gw1 GvG)

what if you bring 2 thieves that do 1 backstab for “most damage” and then hide for the rest of the match, stealthing each other?

while i’m not opposed to a “2v2 season” during conquest offseasons, i think there’s just too much that anet would have to invest.

and another problem is that courtyard is an awful map.

Don’t want to be that guy… today its 1 cleanse/shatter (not 1 cleanse/shattered illusion) … reducing that isn’t possible when you want to keep the cleanse
it’s nice that you want to bring forth ways to balance, but maybe you should invest time in the class you want to balance

it’s still the same issue, either cleanse or heal, because chrono + inspiration results in too much of both.
the only alternative would be to nerf the chrono traits that make restorative illusions that strong (illusionary reversion, chronophantasma) although they have already been nerved once. a nerf to restorative illusions would certainly balance the sustain, but it’s also a nerf to the core class.

echo of memory (shield 4) blocks once. always summons the phantasm when blocking an attack.
tides of time (shield 5) stuns on the outgoing wave and cripples (instead of stun) on the returning wave.

inspiration
restorative illusions (master trait) either remove the healing or the condi cleanse. if you want to keep them both then half the healing and reduce the cleanse per shatter.
this trait is the main offender: with the amount of shatters chronos can cast due to signet and chrono traits you get way too much healing and cleanse out of this trait.

disable continuum split for elites.

give moa a condi cleanse and a duration reduction to 6s. lower moa cooldown to 120.

-> chrono balanced

-Burning speed cast time becomes instant but takes the same amount of time it normally would for the blast to land, (so it can be used better for defensive purposes).

burning speed is instacast and i’ve always used it to dodge stuff if i needed to. that’s a problem on your side.

what you’re all forgetting is that warrior isn’t about condition convert. remember when warhorn converted conditions into boons? it was changed because it’s not in the warrior’s class design.

no to this change. this is not what warrior needs, what warrior needs is usefulness to the team.

Sorry, but surviving and killing the enemy “is” usefulness. Warrior shouldn’t be a utility class, this isn’t pve.

shoutbow and hambow were both picked because of their utility in the past. shoutbow for heal cleanse and res, hambow for stun combo setups.

all a berserker can do can be achieved by any other class more successfully.

every other class brings at least 1 more thing than just “kill and survive”.

ele – reflect + heal + cleanse
ranger – heal + shoutres
engi – heal + reflect + stealth
mesmer – portal + moa
rev – boons + boon removal with mallyx
thief – mobility + instastomp
necro – boon removal
guardian – aoe stability + cleanse + heal
warrior – ?

warrior needs a complete trait rework and shuffle.

the main problem with warrior right now is that you need more traits than you can take.

if you take berserker you need

a) defense for endure pain and rousing resilience

b) discipline for warrior’s sprint, versatile rage, fast hands and burst mastery

now you have a build that has some survivability, some damage but is basically a useless 1v1 build that doesn’t help your team in any way.

what you need is tactics but you can’t take it because you already have 3 traitlines.

another problem is headbutt. again, it’s a very selfish elite skill and your team would benefit way more if you took banner. but you can’t because you need the adrenaline for the berserker mode. or you take the signet and lose a utility skill.

oh and arms traitline is just useless.

What warrior need

fasthands should not be baseline. yes it would be useful but cdr on weaponswap is just not something that should be baseline… what warrior needs is more protection. if you compare all otger classes and elite specs to warrior, most of them get a lot of protection. yes warrior has more armor and high health, but with this power creep it doesn’t even make a big difference.

Where was the mass outcry about SoH during season 1? CS+Moa has been in the same state for the past four months but now it’s only talked about because people watch other people stream, take their word as absolute, and refuse to counter that class.

time warp (and even well) was just way better in s1 because it denied stomps and res with slow/quickness. even if you killed something with moa, it would just get ressed and your moa was gone.

It’s the simple age old argument of skill/reward.

The biggest most obvious skills in the game all belong to Ele: churning earth, dragon’s tooth, meteor shower, ice spike, eruption, lava font (it starts doing damage a full second after it appears on the ground).

and yet those skills are some of the worst and most unrewarding skills in the game.

Are you serious? You want to encourage people to take dagger/scepter over staff and yet proceed to buff the strongest autoattack of the strongest weapon by 17%?

While only giving scepter a miserly 33% increase to the water attunement auto and marginally reducing fire auto cast time?

And leaving dagger water and earth attunements the same?

A 7% buff to Churning Earth? Are you joking?

Churning Earth needs to function like Dragon Tooth. Drop and forget.

idk if you noticed, but what they did was just a undo to all the Elementalist nerfs to dagger, scepter, and staff fire 1.

In the past dagger was the meta and by undoing the most of the past nerfs and leaving the staff strong I believe you will see more type of weapons being used.

where is the unnerf to ride the lightning then.

You mean the one that does not allow ele to cast ride the lightning in mid air? does that count as a nerf when no other character can cast abilities in mid air?

Anyhow, I tried it and I like it more than what we had before.

no, im talking about the nerfs when they reduced the range from 1500 to 1200 and doubled the cooldown.

a reasonable moa nerf would be:

moa cooldown reduced to 120s

moa duration reduced to 6s

moa gives you 5 stacks of stability for 3s

screech (skill 4) cleanses 5 conditions, weakness removed, casting time from 1.25 to 0.75s.

flee (skill 5) range reduced by a small amount.

I like all of these except for the 5 stacks of stability and the screech condition cleanse. I do like the condition cleanse for screech, but 5 is too much. 1-3 is reasonable. The stability is too much and too passive, but maybe making skill 3 a stun break instead would work. Moa should punish players who panic in it, but allow those who keep cool to have strong chance of surviving.

stunbreak would work too. it was basically stun resistance for hald the moa duration, not the full one. conditions amount could be 3, everything is better than nothing.

Only if Moa could be dodged, blocked, or negated by blind…

I main mesmer and it’s not nearly as hard as people make it out to be. Mesmers have more than just Moa that needs to be dodged, stealth, and ways to CC you to land Moa.

If it was really that hard to land as everyone makes it out to be then it would never be used period.

I can tell by your amazing posts on the Mesmer forums…

SoH has a huge glowing effect that’s easy to tell when they’re casting. And it’s really easy to dodge SoH but the vast majority of people who complain are those who don’t dodge, and expect to press all buttons at once and expect to win.

it’s also not hard to force 2 dodges on mesmer or use immob + moa or shield stun + moa. landing moa is very easy. landing moa might have been “hard” 3 years ago, but certainly not nowadays.

I agree, mesmers are WAY overpowered right now. But it’s mostly because of the condition damage. Most mesmers could care less about moa

moa is only one of the problems. you can’t cleanse conditions during it, and the duration is way too long for the power creep that got added to the game.

it’s a combination of being extremely sustainable with staff/sw/sh, merc amulet and inspiration, having great utilities and elites on “half” their cooldown due to f5, combined with the ability to deal great damage and stunlocks with shield and double daze shatter.

there is basically no downside to that build.

The continuum shift doesn’t make that big of a difference. People act like continiuum shift puts Moa on a 30 second recharge. It doesn’t, it puts it on a 90 second recharge (normal for most elites), and is very difficult to time, so on average I think it puts moa on 120 second recharge. I have no idea why people are squabbling about moa. I think they recognize that Mesmer is overpowered, have never played the profession, see that they can turn people into birds, and then just blame that.

When in reality, the problem is Mesmer’s INSANE access to condition burst. Like, if you’ve ever played Mesmer, you know that you can put 6 stacks of confusion and 4 stacks of torment on someone in less than one second, and then stunlock them with a plethora of skills, including or not including moa. Gravity well is just as bad. In addition, Mesmer’s inspiration and chaos line give them up the wall access to stability and condition removal / resistance. This turns good ones into super warriors. Moa really doesn’t do much by itself.

I’m terrified that a lot of hatred is going to be spilled on CS/Moa in the next few weeks when people are getting stomped by chronomancers, it will be nerfed, but Mesmer will still dominate everything, and people will ask "but no birdie why am I lose "

as i said, moa, or f5+elites in general, is just part of the problem. for all i care, they could reduce the duration to 5s and lower the cooldown of moa, add a skill that removes conditions and moa is “balanced”.
