I just checked after the last update (1 Dec) and found exactly what you described. I now have the recipe on my Armorsmith. The Evergreen lodestone now appears in the list of crafting mats, Someone needs to update the wiki with the correct recipe.
Time to farm those Evergreen fragments… or resort to the TP <sigh>
(FYI… it takes 16 evergreen slivers for each lodestone you want to make)
(edited by Jimson.5168)
I just ran into the impossibility of discovering the recipe for the SR of the Rev and was told by support to post in the forum because devs read the forum, not bug reports… yeah.. that makes sense to me.
In any case, one of the components needed to craft the rune does not show up in the discovery mat selection (the necessary lodestone). It also is not available in the Mystic forge mat selection dialog.
You need an ingot of ore, a lodestone, and a scale to craft the (Minor/Major/Superior) Rune of the Revenant. If you can’t select the lodestone because it’s not there, then you can’t discover/craft the rune.
I checked all the lodestones I have and the only one that does not appear for a least one of my crafters is the Evergreen Lodestone. I was unable to check the Mordrem and Resonating Lodestones since I don’t have any. It appears new lodestones and lesser splinters and shards from HoT never made it into the crafting code.

In 5 hours I managed to solo finding 3 maps, get Druid training 60% complete, unlock basic gliding, get 2/3 of 1st mushroom jumping trained, and go slightly cross-eyed. It is possible to solo a lot of the area but you will be running to avoid combat (which slows down your Mastery training. I did manage to get one of the Champion hero challenges with the help of two other players who happened by.
A lot of area is blocked until you complete some of the lore training. I am having trouble getting to Hero Challenges due to needing better gliding skills and mushroom jumping,
Map completion, so, all of them.
Map completion doesn’t include WvW, Dry Top or Silverwastes hero points, so not necessarily.
Ah, but if you have played for a long time then WvW used to be required for map completion. I had to do it for my first character. That’s why none of my alts ever finished the last few challenges to make it to 214. Boy, was I happy when that requirement went away but now I wish I had ground those HP out now.
I think you get something like 398 for leveling… after unlocking all the skills and traits I had 214 left on my main. So that’s 612 max if I can still add in my head.
(edited by Jimson.5168)
192-214 across 5 characters. Max from Hero Challenges is 213 (214 if you have the Krait Obelisk Shard in your home instance). I think the ones in WvW are currently not accessible (undergoing maintenance… yeah). It took me 3 months to get just one character through the WvW skill points (not very good back then… or now ) so those are probably gone…

When it’s against the rules for me to not post in any thread I choose, I’ll stop.
However it’s not up to anyone but the mods to make that decision.
Don’t worry. This thread is so full of irrational arguments, invalid comparisons to other games, and just plain anger about something with no valid information to back up such a reaction, that I have no interest in reading it any longer. You all may talk amongst yourselves. Enjoy!

Dealers can sell at cost if they want. I don’t see how Anet could “force” them to sell at any fixed list price.
Did anyone mention cloning (I must watch the PoI video but I recall that word in the synopsis)? It seems more likely that old Moldy can take a Sylvari and make lots of little grafts on a compatible plant and grow lots of replacements. Plants tend to grow a bit faster than us fleshy types so we will have lots of targets to flame.
This might explain where all the seedless Sylvari bad guys will come from. Have no pity for them as they have no pits.
I was backseat driving on the modified event so I wasn’t playing close attention but I don’t remember even seeing the mentor. I played this event in just the last two weeks and haven’t done any research as to when it may have changed.
I said it was easier since I only died once (because of attacking a rather large mob recklessly) but the person I was helping who was not maxed out on armor or weapons never died at all. I used to think having to “restart at checkpoint” less than 3 times should have been an achievement.

And now for the obligatory question… Why is this thread still alive?
Because the price still seems high for what we seem to be getting.
I don’t know what all I will be getting. Bought it anyway. Everyone else can buy or not as they choose. You know the price… make your own decision. No one is holding a sword to your throat to buy it sight unseen. I doubt ANet will change their position at this late date no matter how many pages this thread generates. (Now where is that graphic of beating a dead horse I saw somewhere else in this forum…)

Seriously, fix the search function on this forum… please! I keep seeing the same questions asked over and over for the last 133 pages.
And now for the obligatory question… Why is this thread still alive?
I was helping someone running an alt through the PS and it seems that the two Claw Island events have been combined into one (much easier) event. Your mentor does not do a suicide attack to give you time to rally the troops and you no longer have to go out on the beach to rescue what’s-her-name (where I almost always died).
Not sure why this was done but I recall a thread (or five) where a lot of people were crying over their mentor getting killed and suddenly (for non-Sylvari characters) having Trahearne and his never-ending history lectures suddenly show up. Personally, I did not care for any of the mentors much more than Trahearne but I did miss the two separate events… it made the victory at Claw Island seem less of a milestone and less satisfying in the story.
It might be me since I just upgraded my net drivers but I have been experiencing screen freeze and delayed weapon response (sits there and flashes at me).
Also the first time I tried to zone I was dumped back down to downloading the update again. Since I already had the latest patch, I was able to log in right away but lag issues still remain.
Edit: Got DC’d 3 times in < 10mins. Game unplayable… resetting everything but not holding breath.
Edit2: (with apologies) the DC problem caused by latest HP net driver updates resetting WiFi and Enet settings back to default… Energy Efficient Ethernet setting was re-enabled which cause my connection to cycle on on off and WiFi security key was cleared. (Doh!)
The only remaining issue was the launcher coming up to load the update again the first time I tried to port to another zone.

Looking at the map, there appears to be a lot of space left to expand this game’s world. Why toss out everything when some serious attention to story development and to engine improvements could yet make GW2 shine. I fear the devs might be pushing burnout with getting HoT ready so I do not expect anything to happen for a least a year after HoT releases. GW2.5 might be a better goal than a totally new GW3.
This game may not appeal to what some people want to see in a game but I suspect there is a silent core of players who like this style of game. People who I play with (at least most of the people I play with) avoid these forums like it was a plague. If I find one or two interesting topics a day, I feel like I won $5 in the lottery… nice but not earth-shattering. I wonder if all the complaining I read here is generally felt by the majority of the community or just a very noisy minority. It would be interesting to see how an analysis of active posters versus average player logins would come out. But I stray off topic yet again…
Rework World bosses to do random unexpected actions such as:
Shatterer swishing his tail and knocking everyone halfway back to the WP who is auto-attacking while reading this forum from the (relatively) safe stacking spot.
Add more variations to Tequatl… even a slightly organized defense can win this event. The gold and loot is not enough incentive to make this event interesting enough to do every day.
Add random World Boss spawn points or have them move around the map so you have to chase them down to defeat them… yeah, a lot of work to make it work like this. At least people would be encouraged to create new “event too long…” or “event too hard…” threads here.
I guess all I’m asking is for some randomness for events. Some of these events I can do in my sleep. Some random variety would be nice and might be considered for the future when development slows down and more time can be devoted to maintenance and finally fixing a lot of long-standing event bugs.
The improvement was built in… it only lasts 4 days and then goes away (hopefully) forever.
A single Champion Teragriff wiped lane 1 today during VineWrath. After I picked my jaw up out of the sand, I WP’d back to Camp Resolve and ran back to help rez everyone, light the signal fire, and punch that terry’s lights out. This was one of the most satisfying VWs I’ve done in recent weeks. (we won even with a lane 2 fail)
Also went to Diessa to farm iron and softwood but the invasion was going on and it seemed every Gummo sapling was right under a Vinecrawler. Had to fight hoards of vet Mordrem… this was annoying but still more fun than whomping a critter out of my way so I could chop, chop, chop. And I got 20 blooms for just being there.
Yeah, bring on a few more vets and champs for spice… I was getting bored.

Only 4 maps??? Blergh…
Supposedly 4 maps (unconfirmed) with 3 levels each… do the math.
You have absolutely no way to know this OP. Have you even played the beta? It is not as static and limited as this (apparently biggest event they could make without bells and whistles or variety) event turned out. I’m disappointed with it as well but it not particularly representative of my experience in the HoT beta. BWE2 showed a lot of improvement and played better with fewer issues than BWE1. A lot of people complained about the same old tired issues that they dislike about the core game but I will play HoT while I have no interest in this event at all. I don’t want or need any of the rewards offered so I leave the area when the event arrives.
You cannot compare this event to HoT IMO.
fix bug, then either extend event or increase drop rate. Not playing just to play. Want my rewards or I’m going to play solitaire for some excitement.
Didn’t really read any of this thread full of speculations… just had a notion that all these theories won’t mean anything if the precursors from the Mastery line are account bound and can’t be sold at all. Has anyone given a thought to that?
Not sure if it’s the servers or the internet. I was playing yesterday helping with someone’s PS and I was freezing up with blinking skills and waiting for the usual DC in the middle of a story event. Both of us were in US just a few hundred miles apart and she had no issues while I could barely play.
Assassins’s Promise on my Ele made me happy… with a Discord Hero team, Sabway Team and a Paragon thrown in for 8 I did almost everything in HM but Shiro which uses a special build. (and people complain that builds in GW2 are OP… )
You spammed the celestial skill on your ele.
Of course, but you did need the correct build to solo it (with just one NPC in your party in etiher normal or hard mode). At least GW1 required you to think about how to spam a skill instead of mindlessly button mashing.

LOL. It’s been a long time (3yrs) since I rolled a new character in GW1. I only visit Arborstone to vanquish the area in HM for Kurzick faction. Still chasing that elusive GWAMM. 2.5 million more Kurzick will give me two more titles of the 3 I need.
I might have visited Pre-Searing Ascalon once in all that time and there were still GM hawking for GM service.
Just abandon the quest and move on. The only place I remember having to be in a group is in the beginning area in Ascalon where there was one “form a Party” quest and to get the gate open to go fight Charr in the north. Just work up to the level needed to trigger the NPC that lets you join the army and prepare to be “Seared”.
This gate you speak of is the problem. I shall try to give it a shot and work around it…. Cheers
You do not have to do any of the quests north of the gate to move on to the core game. I was too cheap to pay a gate monkey to open the gate and the only item you can get there worth anything is a Charr bag for storage. Not much else you can collect is worth taking with you and will be quickly replaced by better items.

(It’s nice to have a alternate character to stay in Pre-Searing Ascalon without moving on to the main part of the game. I actually made it to level 20 on a character there but only after they did away with the death-leveling method of leveling up.)

The build template save (#2) is the one option I really miss and would probably be the best option to have for the expansion. I run a general purpose build suitable for only one set of armor and weapon set. It allows me to wander about the core PvE zones without having to constantly tweak my settings for the local content. With the range of enemy skills we will encounter in HoT, I feel alternate weapon sets and trait settings will become more important.
Although there are a few spots you can safely stand for more than a few seconds in HoT zones (oh, no… a pun), it’s hard to find time to play build tweak/armor swap/weapon equip games before coming under some kind of attack. It might be more “real” to need time to rummage around in your magic (bigger on the inside) rucksack to pull out different armor, weapons, and trinkets as well as do some magical trait effect changes but this is a game after all… give us some unreality by letting us pick a preconfigured build from a saved list.
Spacebar is used to deploy glider wings in HoT. This might have something to do with it. I never really looked to see if there was any setting to change this keybinding. I find it difficult to get the wings to deploy exactly when I need them because of the multiple uses for the same key.
Hmmm.. I’m still trying to get up to 10mil Kurzick points in GW1. This is nothing.
Someone please define what exactly “winning” means in a game like this. To me, winning means the game is over and time to go buy a pizza and a drink and wait until the next game happens, I consider this game an “experience”, not something to “beat”. For video games that you can actually beat, I usually delete them and toss the install media in my (rather large) box of old games that I finished playing everything.
This game only seems to have a vague ending sometime in the future when all EDs are defeated and magic once again begins to return to Tyria. Then we wait for the next cycle when the dragons wake up and start consuming the magic and we see GW3 (not holding my breath on that!).
As long as there is some new content to look forward to, this game will have my attention. GW1 is only on my system now in case I ever manage to get those last 3 titles for my GWAMM but GW1 is mostly just taking up space on my HD. The endgame in GW1 was the end of new content… nothing to win, nothing to beat… just something I used to do.
Yes. There is a hotlink on the loading screen that will take you to where you can prepurchase to participate in this BWE. Just log in as one of your regular characters.
IDK but I expect people will go back to SW because it is easier to play than HoT (hope it seems easier by comparison to HoT). This is useful when you are a bit off your gameplay (I have days when I can’t seem to hit any key I need to). Crafters will still farm Elder and Ancient wood and Mithril and Ori nodes. Loot chests might get nerfed for whatever reason but I personally don’t do much of that… it just seems to take forever to clear inventory after an extended chest run and a couple of VW events. It will probably be like Orr is now… people still go there. As long as they don’t nerf the loot from VW, I’ll still go there.

These are messages from guildies. What can you do but hide once in a while just for some peace?
btw dont know why you hide your char every time when you play solo, you just farm or just want to putter around leisurely and smell the wildflowers.
Maybe it’s the stream of “Can you portal me up to the JP?” or “Can you take me into your home instance?” or “Can you help me with my PS?” or “Come do this event with me” (for the 100th time).
And if you are online but invisible, your friends and guildies should know that you currently don’t wish to be bothered. Perhaps “invisible” should be changed to “Do not disturb”.
—> thats still there called away
> so anet can delete the invisible mode
I use “away” for AFK. I use “invisible” if I’m playing solo or just farming or just want to putter around leisurely and smell the wildflowers. Your usage may differ…

One subtle giveaway is that your last logon time is set as soon as you go invisible. When you actually log off, the last logon time is reset again indicating that you were actually online and just logged off. This is hardly invisible to people who know how this works. You can set your status in the character select before selecting Play by typing “Y” or selecting the Contacts icon in the upper left corner of the screen.
I need less clutter on my UI than more. I don’t think it’s too onerous a burden to type one character or click one icon to see online status (which is how it is now).

Perhaps only a very noisy small group of people actually wanted them.
(Friendly request: Mr max size Norn with HUGE wings, please don’t go AFK for hours standing in front of the banker in Royal Terrace…)
I’ve had the opportunity to browse through the source code of a few games now since they went open source and yes, all of them are a horrible mishmash of cobbled together code and random workaround fixes that are a nightmare to follow. I was forced to take courses on software design by my employer since the company did write commercial business software that could not tolerate the mass of bugs we see in games.
I’ve often wondered what the result would come about if games were designed like business software using the techniques I had to learn… and I concluded that even with a tyrant lead programmer vigorously enforcing the code style rules, it would end up taking 3 to 5 times as long to produce the relatively bullet-proof code to make a game. There is always someone who would resist being told how to write “his” code and chaff at the restrictions needed to stay within the set of code assets available to use.
A bug report is more useful to devs than a rant… just saying…
Seems like you have a better chance of getting a key when you finish mapping a zone than you ever see as a random drop. Some of my guildies and I have speculated that it seems more likely on the lower level zones (under level 50) than the higher ones. The pattern (if there is one) is unclear. You are more likely to get a transmutation charge than a key on zone map completion. My last key drop was from a veteran reef rider in Southsun about 6 months ago.
srry, i think you misunderstood,… (snip)
LOL. of course I did. Read too fast and sometimes feel like I have a bulls-eye painted on any post I make. I shall now go back and search the nooks and crannies of the world for anything interesting. I hear there are some grape vines down is the south of Lornar’s Pass… I could use a snack.
Things I’ve done to combat the game getting stale:
Do a group event solo… it’s so good if you actually win.
Roll a new character and do an alternate path of the PS that you haven’t done before (requires correct answers when creating new char).
Run the entire length of Orr in your underwear without dying. (Goodness, I must be really bored)
Any silly thing you can’t remember ever doing… this one is hard. lol.
Revisit a JP and actually do it instead of just getting your friendly neighborhood spider-mesmer to port you up.
altho your thinking is clever and should be rewarded, it is not (but neither is anything really in this game). The simple truth for me, beyond doing things like JP just for the hell of it and exploration (as in things to do purely for fun and not the reward), is that i’d rather just play another game when it comes down to it, so i do. I LOVE the fighting system in this game but i feel like this game is a film ive watched 50 times already. Sure, the film is ace – but it aint changing and other films usually have had 5 sequels by now. idk…. metaphors.
I wasn’t trying to be clever… just saying what I do. I don’t expect anyone to agree with me and really don’t care. I’ve only put 2600 hours over 5 characters into playing this game in the last year and a half and haven’t done half the content there is to do (mostly because those parts don’t appeal to me or I lack the ability to do them).
For me, this game is easy enough in PvE that my limited physical abilities are enough to do most everything there. I can dabble in WvW and low end Fractals and avoid PvP and dungeons. I’ve learned how to get around well enough that I can actually start looking around at the scenery instead of constantly having to watch my back for the next thing trying to kill me… I’d like to be a tourist once in a while instead of a survivor… just climb a mountain or scale a cliff and just look at the view.
If there is another game like GW2 out there that I could actually play, I might consider it. But right now, GW2 is the only game in town for me.

You can select a different authentication method, eg the desktop one, and then cancel it. Hopefully they will stop reminding you once you’ve flagged as responding.
Does not work… still getting the reminder.
Wings are designed to block your view at crafting stations and vendors. I see no other use for them other than to annoy other players.
It might seem odd but I hated VB when running around with a group. I didn’t actually have fun and start enjoying myself until I created a mesmer just like my core game, GS wielding little Asura. Of course I only had exotics on the beta character so he was a bit underpowered. Once I mastered basic gliding, I was out soloing the area (as much as you can with so many people roaming about) having a ball. Yes, you die a lot but solo players deal with that all the time. Just learning how to move through the area with calculated running, jumping and gliding was the most fun I’ve had in a long time. I quickly learned what mobs I could handle, which to avoid, when to join in with others taking them down, and when to run away.
I’m hoping to do some mushroom lore next BWE. Gonna get higher…
