I think Read the Wind could be excellent, but I will have to wait and see.

Imagine every shot from Long Range Shot and Rapid Fire hitting 99% of the time. Instead of 50% as it sometimes feels.
It could also make the stealth from Hunter’s Shot and the knockback from Point Blank Shot hit every time.

So it might actually become a reliable weapon. Evade/Aegis/Block/Projectile Reflect/Projectile Block are still there of course, but that’s only fair.

I’m probably having my expectation way too high again, but I’ll give it a try to see how much difference it makes.

The only time where velocity is somewhat useful is above 900 units. Below that, they are harder to sidestep.

  1. - Long range shot – trait only useful at the longer range…
  2. - Rapid fire – is a loss of DPS in long range, and it hits at mid-range (hit=the ennemy can’t just A-D out of it)
  3. - Hunter’s shot – I usually use it at close range… not much point using it at max range
  4. - Point blank – once again, used at close range, so does not benefit much from the trait
  5. - Barrage – Really see not use for velocity in that.

Trait is only for how fast arrows go; not how fast they are launched;
and the only time velocity is really useful is for #1, at max range, so when people have eagle eye.
If people would dodge your shot, they are still going to dodge it.

I can see some roaming build use it, though I personally find Remorseless to be better (synergies with LB, applies to other weapons also…)

Why no excite for active build swap?

I’m just envisioning entire build swaps on the run.

I’m already swapping traits and gear on the run… not sure I would take the time to swap trees on the run, though… not until they allow templates
(start with weapons and traits on bar, then gear, then traits, when some time left)
not so hard to do…

What will be wonderfull will be to be able to jump on and off the bus and always have optimal build, instead of having one or the other build, and swapping some traits to have it work for the setting…
And even more, when I have to take the lead on a whim (eg, lead crashes), I will not have to run to the trait guy to change specs (totally can’t lead with my bus build, swapping gear is not enough for that :/)

So, yeah, really happy with that change

I totally agree that some boon stripping ability would be wonderful (and could be made as replacement of consolidated traits). Would also maybe give us more of a point in larger groups.

But I don’t see it in the big ranger picture… we bring things, but don’t take.
Something that has an effect according to the number of boons our foes have would be more in line, imho, for example, an increase in control durations according to the number of boons the ennemy have, an increase in power, or things like that…
This is my opinion, though… punshing the ennemy for having boons, without making the ranger a “taker”.

Not sure I’m clear… I personnaly love the boon removal idea, would be great in bus, but doesn’t seem to fit, conceptually…

Edit:
I do not have the impression the lack of WvW worth have been missed… Been mentionned quite a few times, but there’s no easy way out…

EB is useless in bus, given that the pet is almost always dead; I was also running bark skin, and was relying on Melandru Runes and allies to manage conditions.
Going in that line means an almost 50% uptime warhorn boost, and the 7% vita to power – which I couldn’t fit in my previous build.

I understand why they didn’t put it in EB (toughness/condition line). It makes sense to me for it to be in boons duration line.
And, though it’s not really the case here, I find it nice that they mix attack/defense in different lines…
As stated elsewhere, noone forces anyone to take the new traits / unlock them / change their builds…

I also think that the F2 responsiveness and additional source of condition removal are big stepping stones for the class in the upcoming patch, but that Power build are still going to be lacking.
Not so sure that boon removal is the solution, in a close future… reorganising the traits would be the main first step, imho….

But, well, it’s going to be some time before we see whatever they took from CDI really implemented in game.

My main impression, after CDI, is that they have no clear concept/design of the ranger, appart from it being “the pet class”. (by the fact that it moved from the original “archer” definition towards a “skirmisher” definition that unfortunately does not really fit in the current Meta…)(and is further highlighted by the variety and lack of focus of players suggestions)

I am on a “wait and see” point.
What needed to be said has been said, hopefully, they will get a more encompassing vision of the ranger, eventually

Well, I reserve my judgment until I know wether or not there is an ICD on Survival of the fittest for rangers…
I will finally be able to get rid of Melandryu runes, taking somthing more offensive.

not sure yet, but I see (WvW zerg player) a 20 (keen edge & spotter); (not sure about the other 20 yet, logically in the third line), and a 30 in nm for survival of the fittest.
I naturally play with LR, muddy terrain and entagle, which are all survival skills…
With the vitality to power, I won’t lose much compared with my actual build, and the master signet of the wild (stability at 25% life).
So, yeah, I look forward to that trait in WvW. (and I do fing it fits well in NM… nothing to do with shouts/heal in bus; nothing to do of pet-reliant condi cleanse…
I might lose in protection uptime, though, so this build idea really is just a draft, depending on runes/sigil changes…

Badges for Tomes of Knowledge?

in WvW

Jocksy.3415

What about 1 tome of knowledge per wxp rank you get?

Mmmm, my main has 735 ranks, my alts 20 something ranks… so 875 tomes, I can level-up over 10 alts!

On a more serious note, can’t really force the tomes on people who don’t need them…
There’s be lots of complaints on forum about how useless an update it is, how we need real loots, and not just something that is a scheme to sell characters spaces…

But badges for books? Overall what we can win in a hour of average play (meaning farmer would get them in half hour, most people in an hour and some in as long as a day…)

Seems fair to me…

Jocksy.3415

Kal Spiro, you are missing the entire point of my post. Yes all who are crit based are going to feel it, tell me though, whats a viable alternative to playing a RANGED ranger in WvW in zerg fights? One that has enough damage capabilities to keep up with other characters? I am choosing the play the class as it is CALLED ITS CALLED A kitten RANGER. My anger is based off of the fact that when we finally were able to begin to keep up with other classes in PvP/WvW situations, we are now being nerfed again. Yes its across the entire board, but other classes have better options to deal with this kind of damage nerf, we as rangers do not, for those who actually want to play the ranger as a RANGED character. And not be a condi bunker build.

You understand that the Range in Ranger has nothing even remotely to do with ranged weapons, right? To Range is to wander hither and yon. It means to go on extended excursions. A Ranger is a person who travels the wilds for a living, not a person who shoots a great distance. So, not sure what to tell you.

This!
Ranger is not a range-r…

Plus, Rangers are going to be the less affected by ferocity change because 30% of it’s base DPS is from the pet…
(Calculations been made over and over to show that rangers were the ones who’s zerk DPS would be the less affected when ferocity was first announced… don’t feel like going on in older posts, but should be easy to find somewhat in january, I think)

People who will be the most affected are the ones who min/maxed with a PVT armor and zerker trinkets… cause armor is pretty much the same, still but trinkets will be lowered, which should have been expected by any min/maxer noting crit damage on accessories was higher than crit damage ratio on other builds…

(PS: big numbers are not the only use a ranger has, I’d even say we have to give up too much for those big numbers, compared to DPS classes…
But, we have excellent CC, which are not affected by stability, which can definitively also help win a fight… think outside the box…
What are rangers naturally good at?
If you have to give up everything for numbers, our strength sure isn’t DPS…
We have good CCs on short CDs… use wisely!)

If we all go for the same, it will be nerfed…

New WvW Elite skills for each classs

in WvW

Posted by: Jocksy.3415

Jocksy.3415

The purpose of these skills is to add new specialized WvW Elite skills to the game that make all classes important in WvW combat.

Warrior: Spearhead Charge
Grant up to 5 allies around you stability, swiftness, and +300 toughness for 10 seconds. Allies affected by spearhead charge cannot be affected again for another 30 seconds.

Purpose: counter the hammertrain/cc meta during zerg v zerg charges.

would just make War more UP, not countering the zerg meta, but encouraging it… Stack Warrior, 1/3 on banner; 2/3 with that… unstoppable zerg

Guardian: Tower Defense
Creates a protective bubble for 9 seconds that nullifies damage done to allied players by siege weaponry.

Purpose: Counter arrow cart OPness.

9 seconds of null damage? Really? just get one bubble after the other, still demands lots of players, thus demands zergs, thus encourages zerg meta

Thief: Siege Swipe
Attempt to acquisition enemy siege equipment after a 3 second channel. Kicks the current operator off with a knockback if used on siege currently being manned by the enemy.

Purpose: Gives roaming/undetected thieves a good infiltrator ability that can turn the tide of a fight by stealing enemy siege and turning it on them.

lol… dead thief incoming! does anyone believe any thief can stay on a “stolen” siege for more than one hit?

Elementalist: Flaming Boulder
Conjures a slow rolling boulder that rolls towards the enemy, deals damage, burns and knocks down any targets hit (max targets 5).

Purpose: Creates a dangerous obstacle that forces enemies to break formation/split.

5 for an elite that is a very slow, very visible thing?

Mesmer: Null Zone
Creates a large 1200 circle that instantly nullifies all existing enemy combo fields in it and prevents future fields from being placed for 6 seconds.

Purpose: Counters combo field effect stacking.

most mesmers I see in bus (and this is a bus ability) are not looking for more “null effect”; They ask for aoe capacities to use in bus… an 1200 range with a 6 seconds denial? Right…

Ranger: Ambush
Place up to 5 allies in a 900m radius in stealth for 2 seconds. Players affected remain in stealth and can remain stealthed as long as they do not move after the 2 second mark. Players cannot use a mesmer portal for 12 seconds after the effects of ambush end.

Purpose: Allows the ranger to be integral in preparing deadly ambushes for small roaming groups. Think your alone in that camp? Holy S$$$$+! Added the portal effect because teleporting invisible roaming groups around the map would be broken as hell.

A 12 seconds debuff on a 2 seconds invisibility? 2 seconds invis would be too op because it would allow to port a small group all around the map? really? How does it help rangers in WvW or group settings? Mesmer have a way better invis as Elite…

Engineer: Barricade
Creates a large metal spiked barricade in front of the engineer that is stationary and cannot be passed by enemies unless destroyed. Bleeds any enemies that touch it.

Purpose: Creates obstacles that can slow down an enemy zerg, buy time my making a makeshift wall/door, or cause the enemy to break formation.

very situational

Comments in line
Now, I know I might sound harsh; these are creative ideas, but they solve no problems we have in WvW; they make OP classes more OP and unwanted classes more unwanted…
They do not answer the concerns of players that play the class… Do you really want to give war more access to stability, and make him harder to deal damage to? Do you really think that giving guard a protection elite answers the concerns of Guard players who complain thet their only wanted build is always support? That sige swipe is a role to give to thiefs? it does not solve any of their issues… Are Elems asking for yet another AoE? I think they mostly want their damage/survivability back… That a 2 seconds stealth as an elite for rangers would really be useful for that class? I think we’ll still be with Entangle, that it solves none of our issues of pets constantly dead, of undesirability in group/team settings, of damage/survivability ration, and so on. And, lastly, the Engie… Looks Pretty meh, for an engie, though I see the use… Though it would likely not have much more health than a turret or so, so, yeah… Big packs of ennemies would tear though it, but if they made it to hold some in front of blobs, it would be overpowered while roaming…

Overall, +1 for creativity, but -1 for well thougth out…

Ranger Pets Overpowered?

in WvW

Posted by: Jocksy.3415

Jocksy.3415

You guys should hop into the Ranger CDI and say this stuff. Most of the Rangers feel that pets are actually not very helpful. It’s interesting how the feedback differs so greatly between this thread and that one!

Our pets aren’t very helpful when they are dead within two to three seconds after being hit by most players – even the spider from distance doesn’t last long.

WvW needs the same power as PvE, not much less.

Our pets should be able to “grow up” and be the powerful beasts we took from the wild and be as powerful as their NPC counterparts.

Rangers can’t “Play like you want” – there are too few “builds” that don’t include a pet that can do what mesmers and thieves do to tear us a new one – and we can’t even win against warrior and guardians with their OP builds – two hits dead.

Rangers in WvW are hated and maligned – so give us the darn power to roam solo until WvW realizes our utility.

And if you don’t believe we are hated and not used to our potential that you haven’t been in WvW lately.

Overpowered – really? Tell my very dead pets that.

Oh, and the CDI thread that should still be open that you pointed us all to? Locked.

You’re quoting a post 12 days old and expect a CDI that lasted more than 2 weeks to be still open? Really?

Anet is doing some follow up on the commander CDI and you guys complain?
Yes, it is a low hanging fruit, but I’d rather have a few low hanging fruits more often than go hungry a year, waiting for the main issue to get worked on.

Imho, it will be a good change, as it would allow other than heavies to lead, at least in pugs (guild raid leader is pretty easy to spot – always the first to start).

People asked them more changes, more often, than big changes once in a while.
They do that, and I raise my hat to them, for getting to work on some issues.

I say, good thing to start with low hanging fruit before climbing the tree, instead of waiting for the higher fruits to fall…

Not so sure why you’d expect a devs answer about a support issue in the WvW subject thread… Instead of directly communicating with CS for your answer…
Now, to answer your question,
-Take screen captures
- Note the exact time of the event (eg: 8PM PST)
- Note the server/map
– Note any other relevant information
then send it all through support (tab right beside the “forum” one at the top of the page), then upper right corner “submit request”, then fill as needed.

They ask us not to report those kind of things in the forum to avoid “spreading the problem by making it known” and to avoid “name-calling”…

Even keeping CD in mind,
4 sigils on 1 weapon is still stronger than 2 sigils on 2 weapons

Only one class so far have the ability to half their swap cd….
So it’s a non argument… (5 can swap weapon once every 9/10 seconds, VS 1 every 5 VS 2 where it does not apply)

4 sigils on 1 weapon would be 4 possible effects on each hit, while for all the other profession, it would be only 2 possible effects per hit…

+ (not sure about this), but isn,t the damage coefficient of weapons for elem and egie taking into consideration the fact you do not have access to as many sigils as others?
I doubt it’s wouldn’t have been considered in design…

Jocksy.3415

This means if you cleanse the first application while inside the radius, you will get another one put on you within 1 second. Last time i checked, no profession in the game has a 1 sec CD condicleanse with zero special requirements.

Traps are also fields, so the more people who move through them, the more you tag. At most, Fire + poison field can tag 30 people in 6 seconds (theoretically, i’d say realistically its more like 15-20). That is quite a nice job for something with CD below 20 seconds when traited.

When fully traiting traps you get trap duration x2 + condition duration. Which means whatever the bottom value was, will be “hard buffed” to x2 duration. Then your condi duration is applied ontop before enemy (self) condi duration is substracted from the figure. Either way, your traps will do 5-800 damage pr tick, if you have around 1300-1500 condition damage.

if you cleanse the first application while inside the radius
Who, but noobs, stay in radius… + spike trap only pulse once (don’t listen to tooltip), so max one woould get is two tics… unless it’s a PvE mob…

the more you tag
Yeah, cause tagging is really a great contribution to group play…

Either way, your traps will do 5-800 damage pr tick, if you have around 1300-1500 condition damage
Which is not helping in Bus V Bus where condis are most of the time cleared faster than they are applied…

Imho:
Ranger is not in a good spot. It can be made to work, but needs an awful lot of work to still do less in most game mode than other profession.
It has no niche in which it excels.
It’s good at tagging, it’s good in solo play, that’s it…
If the profession was in a good spot, we would not have to work around it’s weaknesses, we would be able to build on it’s strength

ALL builds must change middle of WvW Tourney?

in WvW

Posted by: Jocksy.3415

Jocksy.3415

My problem is not about all builds having to change in the middle of the tournament… It’s all the problems that might arise with major updates, like not being able to go on a map, disconnects on map change, increased lag/latency, balancing/lineup issues (like one side greatly outnumbering the others, while the others are all in the line to get on the map)… Hopefully, none will happen, but since almost all major updates had repercussions on WvW…

I think it was with EoTM, we finally had access to the maps at like 5:30AM Fr time, and it looked like a reset… We weren’t even 5 online, while foes were 15+ on each map… and all the teleports/rollback we had the following week? not so funny to cap something and be sent to spawn with the structure back in foes’ hands…

New Mesmer trait ...seriously?

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Jocksy.3415

Jocksy.3415

Ranger traits acts as the final puzzle piece to make the build actually work instead of being a bonus like other profession traits.

It never ceases to amaze me to what extreme ends of mispresenting information forum posters go just to keep their point alive.

You realize that traits are needed for all classes? There’s no “bonus” with traits. There are sometimes individual slots, but good luck playing any class without the traits. And you know, half the threads on this forum are about warrior traits being too strong, so yeah, they’re definitely just a bonus. :P

I’m not yet 80 on all classes.
But, I do feel that, except for engie and rangers (and some extent thief), I can put pretty much anything in the skill bar that’s untraited, and they’d still be usefull, as they are. This is not something that I feel with rangers and engie.

I’ll just look at the skills 7-9…
Do you know why ranger’s shout “guard” has a cast-time? Because there is a GM trait that makes shout effect other things than just the pet. So, what it does is that this skill is the only one I have to tell my pet to go out of harm’s way; the cast time makes it so it is way less reactive than a pet placement skill should be…
Signets… most do not work on rangers, unless they have a GM trait… Untraited spirits… they’re meh, but well, in a situation where the plsyer is not moving much and where there’s not too much AoE’s, I guess they could be called ok untraited… Traps… are a joke untraited… Awful damage with no trait – not worth wasting an utility slot in pretty much all settings.
The only skills we can select that are good enough untraited are survival skills… (maybe because the only trait we have for those is a CD reduction… which is nice to have, but not mandatory).

Now, yes there are downsides to other professions utilities, yes, some are bugged, or whatnot, but i would be very curious to know which skills from other professions are “never to be used untraited”. War banner – great effect untraited… shouts; same, Guard, except for spirit weapons, all looke pretty useful untraited, mesmers… are any of the things they have are underpowered untraited? don’t think so… Necro… maybe some spectral can be called underwhelming untraited, though they look balanced on paper… Elem: ain’t tested arcane and glyphs, yet, but they don’t look like things I wouldn’t want on my skill bar untraited…

So… If anyone who has those professions as mains can tell me why their skills are not worth putting on the bar untraited, I’d love to know!

I do not think the intent of the person to whom you replied was to say that traits are useless… but that the problem is that med armours are given base utilities that are not so good, that they have to trait to have somewhat good, and heavily trait to make them as good as most other’s professions traited ones.

See, the difference is that let’s say profession A got a trait that makes a weapon 20% more efficient… the base damage of the weapon is made 10% less efficient to compensate.
Profession B, on the other side, has a trait that makes it 10% better…

Untraited Profession A hits for 90%, untraited profession B hits for 100%, both traited professions hit for 110%…
Now, add to it that, to justify A getting 20% from traits, they put it as GM trait, player A has to go 30 points in one branch to get it’s worth… Player B having it be only 10 % has the trait as Adept or master… which means a trait investment of 10 or 20 to make it’s weapon better, while player A needs 30 points to achieve the same results, and, failing to do it, has it’s untraited weapon being sub par…

Now, you see what we mean, when we say some professions need heavy trait investment to work, while other profession’s traits are bonus?

Rangers just... suck?

Why are rangers in zergs even being discussed. Tell me ONE guild worth a kitten that is recruiting rangers for serious WvW play and not just blobbing…. And traps ranger? Really? Any group that knows what they are doing is going to just a purge on guardian and you are now useless, Lets also not forget the utility of staff eles for cleansing with ease via large water fields which are going to be dropped halfway through a frontline push and be on a rotation. Focusing yourself on condis in a WvW situation is just going to equal cleansing and you doing zero damage until you burst condis again and again… Do zero damage because even the worst groups have gaurdians that can drop a purge and 2-3 staff eles that can say the two words “big water”.

Most controls used in zergs are countered by stability.
The control we can bring (cripple/immobilise) are not…
Some WvW guild do see it, though, we have to prove our worth more than members from most other class.

The only thing I really wait from the patch is pet responsiveness fix… For the rest (ranger-wise), I don’t even expect real good surprise…

(nota: all keep in mind that they had no time to consider ranger CDI in that patch… pretty much everything have sure been in devs test servers for some time, surely… they won’t mess with it, even if they had time, to incorporate ranger CDI ideas)

they said they were gonna fix Sword AA too. They werent sure it would make it to this patch (i think it was this patch they meant), but if dodging during sword AA, Pet F2 and LB hit rate is upped. Then atleast for power builds, rangers will be in a much better spot.

Working pet would be a quantum leap in terms of “viability” across all modes and builds.

Not putting my hopes on unnanounced fixes :p
I can only guess that if they made a pass for the pet, they also could make one for the sword (since it’s also a game-client communication issue)… but I don’t believe it’ll make it yet… they have to keep a greatly demanded change in each patch, to show rangers are not too left out

I’m used to the sword anyway… not a big deal (unless they break the jump by fixing the animation lock)… though it getting repaired would be one of those “nice surprise” I’m not really expecting

These fixes were announced, on these forums and in Ready UP podcasts. All posts were made by dev’s or game designers. So these fixes is, if nothing else, being worked on.
F2 is a certain one, i just hope it arrives sooner and not later (next balance patch prolly wont hit before christmas :| )

Didn,t made myself clear, apparently… unannounced as in “no date given”, as in “we are working on it, but no results, yet”, as in “we are getting somewhere, but are not yet there”…
So, not hoping for it unless I read a dev post stating “we finally worked it out for you guys!”

Joke traits for the joke classes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an MMO with class bias this obvious.

It’s never a joke when you run into a condi-evasion Ranger who knows what he’s doing.

And even if this Trait isn’t stellar, it isn’t the only GM trait Rangers are getting, and the trait re-organization and set of balance changes are also being ignored.

But I guess once bitter, always bitter.

Exactly this. People are letting emotion take over instead of common sense, and aren’t considering that there is alot of other things being reworked in this patch.

I don’t understand how the Longbow suddenly stopped being viable overnight just because of this trait? Then again, to some people the longbow will never be viable unless it deals more damage than any other ranged weapon in the game, because, Longbow, and Ranger, and because,…shut up! I said so!

People (mostly PvPers) have been complaining about how easy it was to just press A or D avoid LB arrows for quite some time, now… They were not as vocal as the “fix sword” community, but they’ve been there for a long time nonetheless.
Of all the possible fixes, this is the worst I can think about…

(Side note: isn’t guardians staff and scepter throwing tracking projectiles (which is why they miss less)? Always had that impression… )

Are condition trap rangers viable? I keep coming across them in WvW and they absolutely murdered me. Granted I don’t have a lot of experience playing against that build but the condition pressure they can apply melt’s you very quickly, even when cleansing.

These players have been few and far between and they are definitely very skilled with their profession. After fighting the ones I did, it made me want to roll a ranger to see how much fun it would be BUT, I really don’t like condition builds because they seem…broken

Answered your own question…
They are viable in roaming, ans long as they stay out of harms way.
Get out of their traps as soon as you pop one, you won’t eat too much condis

As for all condis build, it’s viable for roaming; not much for bigger setting

After fighting the ones I did, it made me want to roll a ranger to see how much fun it would be BUT, I really don’t like condition builds because they seem…broken
Then don’t…
Or get power build.

I personally find ranger is the most fun char to play, because it’s very situational… others find it boring because it’s a lot of “spam 1, with the occasional other skill” (eg : shortbow : 1 = main attack; 2 = poison (to use when the other is healing); 3=escape/kite; 4, I usually use over a field, as soon as is off CD (helps kiting), and 5, for interrupt…
All skills deal same base damage, except #2, which deals slightly more at melee range…
So yep, very situational… if that’s the kind of gameplay you like, you’ll have fun with ranger… If you prefer “real” burst rotation… not a class for you.

There are a few nice one shot builds with norn characters though… more for the trolling than for real gameplay, but funny nevertheless…

Don’t hold your breath. For all we know this will be the new GM Skirmishing trait.

They all have the same attack range. Yep dagger range = sword range = greatsword range. Why is that?

Not putting my hopes on unnanounced fixes :p
I can only guess that if they made a pass for the pet, they also could make one for the sword (since it’s also a game-client communication issue)… but I don’t believe it’ll make it yet… they have to keep a greatly demanded change in each patch, to show rangers are not too left out

I’m used to the sword anyway… not a big deal (unless they break the jump by fixing the animation lock)… though it getting repaired would be one of those “nice surprise” I’m not really expecting

New Mesmer trait ...seriously?

in Profession Balance

Jocksy.3415

I’d like to raise a valid question. Projectile speed being increased would mean that target would be able to dodge double the amount of shots in a single dodge roll? From what I’ve seen dodge acts like the evade mechanics that a variety of weapons have. As in you don’t just dodge the first attack but every subsequent attack while the dodge animation is rolling. So if projectiles travel twice as fast and you pop rapid fire… well, you see where I’m getting.

To make it simple…
(fake numbers coming)
if
today we can launch 1 arrow per second that takes 0.5 seconds to reach the target,
the trait will make it so we would
still launch 1 arrow per second, but it would only take 0.25 seconds to reach the target…
that’s the only change…
it will not be two arrows per second
Attack speed (rate of fire) is not going to be faster with this trait, only the arrow will fly faster (travel speed)…

So “would mean that target would be able to dodge double the amount of shots in a single dodge roll?”
Answer is no. Not if only that trait is used…

well letting all your structures get taken means you have no ppt anyway. It would lessen the run away points spread some. If your the weaker server in the match up it gives incentive for the 2 stronger servers to fight each other. Rather than stomping the weaker server.

PPT, you can do on another map, while the foe is on yours…

Sometimes, we try to defend out of spite, knowing we will not hold the position, but defending it out of respect for fellow players who upgraded the structures during daytime…
We lose PPT while defending upped structures (loosing the paper ones)
We would get even more PPT not defending at all, and having incitations to not defend (as a way to deny points to foes)…

EDIT: to be clear, this isn’t a thread “picking on” mesmers. This is a thread criticising Anet’s ability to balance and introduce fair traits given the sheer volumes of feedback they’ve been getting.

Doubling the enemy’s cooldowns on interrupt? I…I just can’t.

It hasn’t even been implemented yet and everyone can already see it’s going to be overpowered. Mesmers don’t NEED such an unnecessarily powerful buff – they’re one of the top classes right now with the utility, sheer amount of stealth and frankly frustrating amount of clones they have making them one of the worst professions to 1v1 with. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying they are overpowered as things currently stand.

But it’s not just the mesmer trait either…. Guardians getting THREE THOUSAND more HP at level 80?

What do Rangers get? 2x faster arrows. Something so simple that should be implemented as standard, and not brought in as a Grandmaster trait. I know these are just 1 of several new traits, but it just goes to show Rangers are on the verge of being shafted once again. It also shows that little attention has been paid to the discussion of Ranger bows in the CDI.

2x faster arrows is technically doubling their auto attack damage, are you on crack?
You can’t judge a trait that hasn’t even been tested yet, they will not care about your post on this forum.

projectile speed is increased, not attack speed. It will still shoot once a second.

I second this… we will not shoot more arrows in the same timeframe, they’ll just get to their target faster, making them harder to side step… wouldn’t be complaining if it also increased attack speed…
As is, it should be adept, imho…

Way many people asked for faster arrows because players can just sidestep to avoid them… Not because it is not something you are looking forward to for your gameplay does not mean it’s a useless trait…
I’m more questioning making a gm trait out of something that just make LB arrows more likely to hit than the need of that feature

But on another trait? LB traits are already too many, why can’t they just simply increase the base speed?

Here, I bolded something for you…
Though English is not my language, so maybe I didn’t say it properly?
I meant This is underpowered for a GM trait, and it is not something we should have to trait to get… arrows flying faster should be a base LB thing…

Sorry, I have to lol…
If it would somehow make us shoot faster, or reducing CD or something, it might be, but all that it does is make LB arrows fly faster so that foe will not just have to sidestep to avoid them… LB should have an integrated way of making sure people can’t just WASD to avoid damage… not through a GM trait…

I remain optimistic, as should you! Because negativity is just bleh.

Lack of Collaboration in Ranger CDI

Also, I know the balance patch had been delayed until summer, but it will be at least October by the time the profession CDI are done so don’t expect anything meaningful to come to fruition until 2015.

I have not heard about the balance patch being delayed, link?

Also, I wasn’t asking for changes now, I know it takes time. And with Anet devoting everything to LW over the rest of the game, non LW changes take years. But, I was talking about making the CDI actually collaborative, like the other topics received. Beyond that one summary post, we got nothing from Allie.

It’s not knowing, it’s just assumptions, based on the fact devs once stated they didn’t want to put major changes in the game in the middle of a WvW season.
Since tournaments start (next week?) and end in May, people don’t expect anything before then…

What do you mean there is nothing?

I have been on a break since the swift retribution to the Eagle Eye bug. Waiting around until this patch because Ranger balance was announced to be worked on and to be released in March.

Correction:
Changes were announced for the balance patch following the LS, but no devs stated it would be on march 18th – that patch, they called a maintenance patch.

Players assumed it would be the balance patch, but Anet never stated it would be so, and even posted it wouldn’t be the one…

Can Rangers tank in PvE like Necromancers?

in Ranger

Posted by: Jocksy.3415

Jocksy.3415

Thanks for the answers so far, y’all.

Norjena, I suppose a better way to put it would be that I’d just like to be able to use Greatsword + Sword/Dagger in PvE/dungeon content. I figure that a focus on survivability is the only way to make that work given that you’re always in melee range, but if there’s a different approach, I’d be grateful for info.

In PvE/Dungeaon, the most important thing is to know when big attacks are coming and dodge them… The better one is at it, the more one can lean towards being zerk.

Both sword and GS have evades. Though mastering sword is challenging, after one did that, it’s a great weapon.
The point with melee, is not about tanking, but about timing the evades (and invuls, if applicable)… at least in PvE.

Unfortunately, that only says more about your ranger skills vs your skill with alts then the profession itself. That, or the people you hang out with aren’t as nice as you think.
Sorry, but personal experience =/= general performance.

May I say again? I’m in four guilds, none of them have ever said “rangers aren’t welcome”. One guild leader said they like playing their ranger, though they main a warrior; they say one is more useful overall, one is more fun though.

I’ve never been told outright to stay out of WvW as a ranger, I’ve been told instead to learn how to counter certain things and to be a team player more.

Trap ranger kit

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Jocksy.3415

Jocksy.3415

@Seras

@Jocksy
I dont see why your changes are more respectful while my changes mean I should be changing proffs lol. That being said, added traits for traps would help, though imo if they are going to add a stunbreak and cond cleanse for rangers it should be one that’s on demand, not tied into tripping another ability (we have too much reliance on passive proc’s imo). As far as the invis aspect, yea i know what you mean, but its really only helpful the first time. After that a melee opponent knows where they are (under your feet probly) and a ranged will see you coming at them and kite. Atm, all we usually get is 1 tick of the trap anyway, (barring invulnerabilities, immunities , evasions, in which case we may get none lol and with so much ionvested into trap damage we are then in big trouble)

Not saying these are changes I would like to see, just that I read about them and find them more in line with what the ranger is about, according to the devs phylosophy…
A skirmisher prepares the terrain to get the best out of whatever situation.
In this case, placing the traps in advance (eg:spike/fire/another) means the foe that you lure into this spot, is going to stay there at least one tick. If you played wisely, your traps are off cd, so you can again throw spike, then fire… few classes have enough cleanse to get rid of everything at once.
after that, I admit, for someone playing melee, against a melee players, traps invis doesn’t do much…
But in any melee vs ranged situation, if they were visible, they would be totally useless…

Now about my saying that adding effects to traps would be more _ respectful of what ranger is about_ is because we are not engies nor necros. Taking things from one class to give to another is not keeping in the ways the later works.
I’m not against novelties, but they have to be mindful of what we are in ourselves, not about picking what we like about other classes…
When I see suggestions that are not about “well, but that other class haz it, why can’t I have it”, the only reasonnable answer is that we are not the other class, and that if it is a mechanic that the person likes, well… nothing ties him/her to ranger.
I do not want rangers to become a sub-any class that takes from all, but does not better in anything. I do not feel that it is anything that would solve any real problems…

Rangers need to stay unique, linked with nature, and I do not think that taking things out of its backpack is in line with the concept…
