I think its nice theres options. And all the achievement ARE optional. I can get lucky with my fellow players and do all LS achieves in a day or two, or I must spend some days trying, or maybe not getting them all. Its life.
A lot of people like to do things in a group, solving stuff in cooperation, demanding they have to do it solo isnt an option in my eyes.
Besides, some of the raging I’ve seen in chat isnt excactly asking nice for help.
Not true at all, I spent a few good hours a few times on different days trying to farm these the way I thought was intended and got maybe what, 5 total (each time) for all my effort put in. Now I’m making 5 gold an hour after finding my new method of getting them and doing my best to help supply the market with them. But you carry on with your idea that playing the game the way it’s meant to be played is the best way. But I will say again, their drop system is flawed.
The fact is roaming around killing mobs that are spread out hoping for that drop can NOT compare to endless spawning mobs via an event due to it being blocked from completion. They seriously need to look at all of this.
Well, I rarely farm for hours for one specific item/thing. I gather a little of most almost all the time as I enjoy the world, not trying to speed or thinkin about cost and effiency. Before everybody got obsessed with linen, I used to start at one end of the sone and then chain event me through it, earning silvers, karma and xp and with a lot of linen, other mats and salvages, at least 2 dyes (7 once), and a rare or two.
I am sure this isnt the fastest way of doing it, but it isnt boring and I can do it at my own pace. And Im ready for whatever pricespike that comes my way.
But I agree the droprate should be a little better, but I think the idea is to push people to buy gems for real money, so it wont change for quite some time, if ever.
I still loose target, with auto-target off. As I said, I’ve tried every possible setting in target option menu, and standing still, with the mob in front of me I still loose target and stop attacking from time to time.
Its most annoying when I have to deal with a group of enemies, it can be hard to see if I am attacking or not, so I keep auto-targeting on so I dont stop, but that means I attack all at the same time, and dont take them down one by one. And the group is often a result of not staring at the targets healthbar so I dont see when the target switch and I pull mobs from all over.
About the positioning, Im not sure how that works anymore, because it doesnt always help standing behind the target. This is something I have noticed before, but the last month or so its almost no point trying to avoid, I get hit no matter where I stand.
I do think it has something with lag/connection to do, as framerate is going down and loadingscreens take longer and longer. It could be on my end, but only gw2 has changed, everything else I do on my pc/internet seems the same.
There really isnt a “ridicoulus” cost to level crafting if you can spend some time gathering mats instead of buying them. Wich I guess you already know.
And by farming t6 mats, you got alot of t5 mats you can sell. You will probably get your 5 gold back on the way.
Also, I think it is smart to farm some ori and t6 foodstuff anyway, as jeweling and cooking is supposed to get to 500 soon.
Or maybe they will only need carrots and copper.
You’ll never know..
Leeching - Why is nothing being done?

I wish there was a way to make a system that could handle it, but I think its close to impossible. Anet has said that you should report anything you find suspicious, making it easier to make such reports will result in an endless stream of reports, wich in turn will make a lot of work for Anet. As mentioned above.
In different posts around the forum, it does seems that some people really like to take upon themselves to “fix” such things, by reporting, pulling mobs to kill players that dont “play as intended” and so on.
Lets say you have to go afk for a sec, some noble player comes by, hah an afk’er-report!, and moves on. You come back, continue with whatever youre doing, change zone and you have to answer the phone. Another noble comes by, and.. hah an afk’er-report!
No-one has done anything wrong, still you are at risk to get a few reports against you, wich, I assume, will maybe make Anet to not put a lot of effort in study your behaviour. After all, several people have made notes about you.
Not to mention organized afk hunting. Theres already people who find joy in trolling with the tools we have today, why should it be any different with more tools?
“You can be as bad and don’t give a kitten as you want when you play alone. But what kitten people off is when you go at massive event or dungeon and act like a lazy person, don’t give a crap if the event fail and then complain that the event is hard or that people were mean to you. I’m not a good soccer player, but when i play with my friend i don’t look at the sky, ignoring the game and chatting with a girl during the game. My friend will say to me to get the kitten off, or course. If i want to be part of group activity, I’m suppose to do a minimal effort to be helpful. I have player in my guild that are bad, don’t have a good build, etc. I don’t mind. I will run most thing with them, but what i can’t stand is a bad attitude of : I will play how I want if you don’t like that get the hell out. Keep that attitude to yourself when you play alone not in group event. And to be fair, that also include people that kick a ranger or someone with low AP without any question, that kitten me off as much. Both of these attitude are selfish and usually ignorant.”
I agree, and if we are talkin about an attitude-problem on some players, I dont mind at all. Cause its true. Whatever end of the scale it is.
The key word is “some”. But it isnt the word thats chosen. Its “people” are lazy, and then theres a whole lot of things that make you one of the “lazy” ones, that no-one wants and perhaps you should go find a single-player game.
It is wrong, because the truth isnt a yes/no.
Yes I agree that there is people/players you could call lazy or careless or whatever, and I understand it can be unfair and frustrating, but you cant go ahead and name them all lazy. Or leecher. Because you dont know. And that makes it a lie.
I was luckier with my start as a musician, my brother dragged me along and let me play with his friends. I am still grateful for that, music is such a big part of me today.
In many ways it was as you say about your guild, wich is a nice thing. and how new players should be met in this game, not capslocked out of LA. Because I know at least one new player who just looked at the map chat and meh.. Im off.
“You are not the type of player the OP is talking about.
The OP is talking about the players that force themselves into groups and do not pull their weight. Since you are a solo player and play for other reasons, the OP is not calling you lazy."
Perhaps. I dont think its that specific, but English isnt my first language so maybe. If I want to go to LA, however, it seems its ment for me too, no?
Im mostly just against throwing the lazyword around, because to me it seems that either you master the game or you are lazy.
Aimed at me or not.
“True. I’ll continue my guitar analogy. If you bring you guitar to a party and play it with your friend. And then someone also with a guitar come next to you are said, hey man if you do that or put your finger like that it will be easier to reach the cords and you’ll sound better. Or maybe he will be able to teach you a new songs. What will be your reaction?”
Hard to say, its really about who or how. Drunk? Bothered my sister in the past? Mr. know-it-all? Mark Knopfler?
Sometimes Im glad if someone else join in and possibly take over, if I want to party more than playing. Other times it is great fun to play, alone or with some stranger. There isnt a thing as “the answer” to that.
And I never think “oh God, why cant people make an effort and try to master some singing? Lazy Bstrds they are.”, because thats not why Im there for.
I do however think that when we practise, and everybody know wich songs we agreed to play.
“When you play the game, you eventually become better at it; succeeding is what delivers the pleasure, mastering is what makes you feel good (just like the guitar analogy from Thaddeus). If you’re playing the game at mental level 1 continuously and do not evolve, I don’t think it’s okay; you may either go and play a single-player game then, or rather start smoking or drinking alcohol as these hobbies are just as relaxing and challenging. I might be exaggerating here, but I think you get the idea.”
And thats what its all about, what you think is okay or not? I am a decent guitarplayer, I know a lot about playing keyboard, I have played in a band for years. I dont play drums, and as it is an important part of a band, I shouldnt be so lazy and evolve away on the drums?
If Im off to some party and just having some relaxing time with my friends, I dont drag all my stuff with me, I take a guitar and play songs from the top of my head. Even play something I dont know if people ask, because it isnt about beeing the best there is, it is about relaxing and having fun.
I dont know if I am a bad player or not, mostly I wander about alone, exploring, jumping puzzles, gathering and doing events in all zones, mostly soloing them. I love the music and the sights, it is a great world. I dont wvw or pvp, and dont like dungeons that much. Im probably lazy in some eyes, but I can live with that. I dont need to hammer down a knight or something to feel “accomplished”.
Lot of people have other goals and are happy with it. Lot of people dont need to “succeed” in a game to have fun. It is a game.
Play however you want, demand whatever you want, complain about whatever you want, but going on about how everybody that dont share your goals or agree with you are lazy is simply not true.
“This thread, despite the title, is not supposed to be inflammatory. It actually states the evident – a lot of players are too lazy to learn the basics of the game, including but not limited to:”
I think you’re wrong. I dont think “lazyness” is the answer to why so many dont play as you wish. It is about choices. I dont remember exactly all anet said when I buyed (bought?) this game, but I remember the “jump in and play” and “if you see someone fighting, go ahead and join, you are helping.”
And then it appears there is alot of mechanics, there is a lot of armor and weapons, even proffesions, that isnt good enough, and there is a lot of people who demand you to research guides, builds and tactics, go on youtube to be “prepared” for dungeons and most of all, understand all these fgj, gs, wp, hambows and whatnot.
Not to mention combo fields, what they do, how they work and wich one to use in different situations and with different players.
Not everybody, but a big lot looks at this and think “heck, this isnt supposed to be a second life or a job or something, this is about me playing a game for fun a couple of hours some afternoons. Dont need that, dont even want to need that”
Because a lot of people dont take this very serious, and why should they? It is a game after all. So they choose not to invest the time and/or effort to be good, and demanding anything else will just make them walk away.
For the dodging, it is tricky sometimes. Im not a good dodger, so I set out to train. how hard could it be?
It is very hard. Cause what I see isnt what happens. Some mobs have very slow attacks, like arctodus. I see they raise on two legs, run out of harms way and get hit. I run behind them, and get hit. So basically, wherever Im standing/positioned, with this “mobile combat” system, if Im close enough I need to dodge.
For the wurms, I know when they are throwing rocks. So I start moving to one side just before. When they release the rock, I go the other way, and they miss. Usually. But even when I see the rock miss with a mile to the left, BAM, I walk into a pile of ice and is hit. Or I can see the rock change direction in the air after turning, so I change direction again, and though I can see the rock miss to my right, BAM, I get hit because the rock didnt change direction after all, just on my screen.
The worst I have encountered so far for dodging, is that swamp with all those hammer risens. Dont remember if it sparkfly or bloodtide. I still try sometimes, but have yet to dodge even one. They knock me out of middle air. And though I manage some perfectly good dodges as far as I can see, BAM, knocked to the ground though I have dodged away and they havent moved.
So it isnt always as super easy as a lot of people say.
Btw, I make an extra effort to rez guildies, else I rez if I can. I think we should. Though private “rez please” tells is somewhat annoying. I would rez you if I could.
Targeting flickers. I’ve tried every setting in options about targeting, and it flickers or reset or something. Even if I dont move when attacking, I sometimes loose my target. And when tab’ing to find target again, it find mobs all over, behind walls, in a cave under me and so on. It is annyoing.
Maybe its something to do with lag, cause sometimes when I attack/run to a mob, we will run past eachother couple of times before my pc and the server agree on where we are and we can start bashing.
I agree with OP. Not that Im against tp or people making money, its the huge gap in speed/effiency between tp and any other way to make money. And Im not that interested in money either, but you need money to buy stuff.
I like to explore and gather in the beautiful world we have, and then use my gathered mats to craft my armor, weapons, food and so on. But the amounts of mats I need is mindblowing. Just to get crafting maxed is a pain, unless of course, bying stuff with gold. It is a warning sign that no-one tells you where to farm and how to do it, just how much it costs.
My goal was equipping all my alts with selfmade stuff, thats a big part of what I do in games like this. That one I have scaled down.
A legendary was a goal, until I discovered the droprate in this game. that, and that Anet suddenly changed the requirement to get it blew it away for me.
I am enjoying the game, I think its a wonderful place to be and I really like much of the music, the sights and all those little stories I find around the world. But without long term goals I lost a bit of the purpose to log in.
But who knows, things might change.
I think it would have helped with longer descripitions for what teams search for, most new (and a lot of not-so-new) players dont understand the “codes”.
This wouldnt help against people who dont care, but maybe against some of the kicks people dont understand.
A lot of people dont ask in forum/chat because they are afraid of beeing silly, and some responses is L2P noob lololol, so they just read, goes out and gets zerker gear without knowing the point of it.
It is sad that everything is about damage and how fast you can run through stuff, but I guess that how it is.
I would like the orders to come more in play. In LA there could have been some quests for every order, priory study the miasma, wishper scouting or vigil escort/evacuate missions, just to name a few possibilites.
Just a thought here.. pondering the dialog between Evon Gnashblade and Jirtta, the Asura Lionguard soldier. Did it ever occur to anyone that under the direction of Ellen Kiel, the Lionguard stole the Black Lion Trading Company from Evon?
Evon was the one who warned the Lionguard of Scarlett’s imminent attack.
Through history (the real one) such things have happened a lot. During war and war-like times theres always those that through actions of the greater good somehow comes out of it on top.
Its the winner who decides whats part of the history and whats not.
I would like it, and I would gladly pay a small/reasonable monthly fee for things like that. I dont have a lot of grand arguments for why it would be better, it just suits me and would make my days somewhat easier.
It must be so I can pay for half a year or a year in advance, so I can pay and forget about it for a while. I tend to forget buying tools on the chars I use (Im an altoholic..) and often find myself in the middle of nowhere without tools.
But that’s just me, and it isnt a big thing
The respawn rate is ridicilous in certain places. I am all for beeing on your guard and always check behind you and so on, but the idea of if you cant instakill whatever crosses you, the spawnrate is gonna get you is silly. And even if you instakill everything, more then likely you have to kill all the mobs again on your way back. Not so much dangerous as annyoing. Very annoying.
And is isnt always an event, an event quite often has a limited number of mobs you have to tear through, and you’re done. The casual camp with a poi or a skillpoint and speedspawn isnt dangerous or hard, just meh..
On a skillpoint, I had to kill a veteran who was guarding it. I killed it, and it respawned and attacked me before I had finished “communicating” with the kitten point..
Headache after farming in LA under attack
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: JoeytheHutt.1742
I too get headaches in LA from time to time, not everytime and it doesnt matter if its many runs or just one or two.
There are spots around all of Kryta wich give me headache, where suddenly all is a bit sluggish, the coulours gets kinda fluffy and its really hurts my eyes. These are spots with very clear borders, they are there always, no matter time of the day or if I’m alone or not and they dont move.
On the top of my head I remember a few in southsun, some in frostgorge and I’ve encountered a couple in ascalonia.
If Anet have a problem with afk’ers, let them deal with it. Giving the option to report or vote for kicking others, no no no.
There are lots and lots of reasons why some dont participate or help YOU Reach whatever goal you have, some legit and some not so legit, it isnt up to you to decide.
I dont go for rescuing in every cycle, I need lots of blades and I try to gather some heirlooms as well. Am I supposed to ask other players if its ok? Ask if its ok if I just stay here for a while, answering the phone, checking up a guide?
Yes it sucks if you really want the 1,2k rescued, and I could have helped you, though in all my rounds in LA I have seen only once People try to organise and ask the rest of the players to go for rescuing while we waited for LA to open. It almost worked and it was great fun to scatter around in small groups, beeing the rescue heroes. But, I could say I sacrified my goal to try to help others with theirs, where is my reward?
Dont get me wrong, I do dedicate some cycles to rescuing, it is fun and I like small groups rather than zergs.
There is a certain part of the playerbase who wants everything instanced, so they can control who they are playing with. Though I understand the reasoning, I dont want that. One of the big things about this game, for me, is that you dont know what to expect. Implementing some kind of “player-police” to control open world event?
Thats even worse that instancing.
People are what People is, it will never be different. Try not to let that bother you, it is after all you who decide if it gets to you or not.
I hope you get your reward.
There is no point in arguing about who deserves what, unfair or not and what/wich requirements one should expect to get their hands on a legendary. As long as the only requirement really is gold, it is pretty obvious what Anet thinks about it all.
It is after all a way to avoid grinding, as Anet said we would..
So, if everybody just can wvw, Anet can slow Down on the content, as we all make Our own battles and fun, everybody is happy and Anet makes Money.
a win-win, no?
..or more like an idea maybe.
Im not sure this is even possible, but I got this idea to perhaps make an encounter for everybody. I have looked and searched, but didnt find anything similar, but sorry if its already out there. Im kinda surprised if it isnt.
Here goes:
It is much like Marionette. Several lanes/gates, where we have to fight to Clear With a raidforce of several People. Those gates/lanes need to be held open, as they are attacked like Marionette, but continiously. Lots of People need to stay to defend it through the entire raid.
When the gates/lanes are open, we can send in a “taskforce” or whatever we like to Call it, a smaller Group of specialists, to take Down something, solve something or whatnot. And you cant do the one without the other.
To hold the gates we need strength in numbers, to do the inside we need strenght in skills. And everything have to be done to get the reward, wich everybody gets.
The taskforce is something you need to voulenteer for, as it should be possible for everybody to get in. But it cant be totally free, as I imagine most People will want to be in. So a system of some kind, map exploration, kills, pvp kills, fractallvl or something. I dont know excactly.
As the raid goes on, there should be updates, maybe voicemessages “base one green” or something, so all can feel as a part wherever they are.
Maybe we could do this in Orr, like we need to take and hold several temples to open a special Dungeon?
The Whole point is to try to combine Casuals and hardcores, maybe it is impossible.
Im sorry for my English, I feel Im lacking in vocalbury and grammar.
Thx for reading
First of all, Ceridwen, excellent post!
Yelling at people doesnt work. Simple as that. It may make you feel good for a little while, poor you if it does, but it does not help the slightest.
You can however make someone feel unwanted, in fact I know it has, and make people stop coming. Victory eh?
I was yelled at once. I still dont know why, as I didnt die, nobody else died around me, and the champion was sent to the mist pretty quick. Still some hardcore serious top notch gamer felt the need for some yelling. Well done sir.
I see there is some talk about dodging, or the lack of it, here and elsewhere. I must confess I am very bad at dodging. I am trying to be better at it, but the problem is that you really dont need dodging until end game, and if you stick to open world pve, you maybe dont need it at all.
I have completed all pve maps on 3 chars, and except for a couple of skillpoints in orr, all soloed. Obviuosly there is luck involved, and a lot of dying, but perhaps you should be “forced” to use Dodge from quite early, before you learn to ignore it.
Just a thought.
