We were stuck with a scrub-friendly (there’s a difference between casual friendly and scrub-friendly) content for 3 years. We were sick n’ tired of it.

wow
Someone forced you to stay among all these scrubs for 3 years??
Why didnt any of you call the police?

I never stayed. I was taking huge breaks over time out of boredom and/or playing other better MMOs / Single player games.
So did a huge part of the population. In fact many people just logged in once every other week to do their 1 hour worth of Living Story episode and logged off.
This is where GW2 population was heading if they continued releasing content for 8year old kids.

I consider myself a casual player. Not a scrub who just wants to #1111 his way to the end while watching Netflix.

Sick n’tired over beeing stucked with scrubs while you where playing other and better games. And now that you become 11 you want this game to be a bit harder.
Makes kinda sense I guess.
Well, good luck and merry Christmas.

I just skimmed through the thread, so sorry if this is already mentioned.
Your armor. You play a really squishy class, and berserker gear makes you to what is known as a glass cannon. The idea behind berserker, or zerker as many call it, is to max your damage on the cost of protection. You have to use your dodges, utilities, weapon skills and so on, known as active defenses, because with zerker gear it doesnt take that many hits to kill you. So you dont want to get hit at all.
Gear with toughness, vitality, traits that adds to this and so on, is passive defense. You can take more damage, more hits, but you dont do max damage. But you dont do any damage at all laying around on the floor either.
This isnt easy, it is a lot to take in and getting used to, and you have taken one of the hardest way to learn it, with an ele in zerker gear. And then trying to learn dungeons, where you kinda have to learn about what other classes can do too, what buffs to give and when, all this with strangers and youre not saying anything.
This is just my opinion, I dont try to be rude or anything, but why dont you try to take one step at the time? I think you have chosen one kitten of a job.
Good luck and I really hope you pull it off.
Maybe try some other prof so you dont get too tired with your ele?
I would

It isnt hard to make gold in this game. But lots of people seems to find it hard to make it in what they consider a decent speed. I am not disagreeing with you, just an observation. Personally I dont think to much about gold, though I try to catch spikes, as my bank tend to fill up before I remember to sell.

Since when did GW2 become a Hardcore MMO?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

JoeytheHutt.1742

Im not sure that many think gw2 has become hardcore. Some, yes, but my feeling is that this is more about people beeing afraid/sceptical to where gw2 is going.
Is this raiding and more challenging sones the future, or maybe just an experiment? No-one knows, maybe even Anet dont know just now, I think they are waiting and checking numbers. HoT isnt really that bad, but a lot of little things point in a direction where a lot of players who like to relax with a nicelooking “easymode” fantasygame doesnt want to go.

People can not hide behind it’s just my opinion in every argument, of course we know it’s opinion, can you imagine if everyone just use it’s just my/your opinion in every conversation? Then human conversation would not exist .

On another note, I agree with OP completely, forum always tries to make things look worse than it actually is. If you just read forum and not play the game you would think GW2 is one of the worst game of all time.

So, basically, you have an opinion too?
Without opinions there wouldnt be much need for communication, I mean, what would we talk about?
-“We have weather today”
-“yes”
What OP is about IS pure opinion, it is about what HE thinks, what HE find reasonable and what HE thinks maybe is a bit hard. And he even has an opinion about other peoples opinion. Basically that they should keep it to themselves. In a massiv multiplayer online role-playing game….

1. It would be nice if I could buy crafting materials from the master crafter in the crafting window. So many times I am in the middle of crafting, scrolling through all the different recipes and suddenly are out of gossamer thread or something. Close window, buy thread and start all over again.
I am after all standing in the shop, with the owner right there, he/she should be able to hand me some spools while I have everything else laid out ready.
Or is this option there already and I have missed it?

2. The collection stuff that drops. Do they have to be in an exotic chest? It is already somewhat annoying that those openers for grawl and hylek collections drop in a chest that makes me go “wohoo, nice drop” and then be disappointed. I have almost never had exotic drops, now its several times a day and its just a couple of silvers each time, nothing very exotic about it.
Make some new chest or use the wooden one. Please?

Will Anet nerf silverwaste?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

JoeytheHutt.1742

Now I’m NOT saying Anet has gone all crazy but it seems like they are soft pushing players into spending real money for gold by having all the gold “fix” like dungeons etc. Suppose they are to do this again will silverwaste get hit? I hope not

You know, the whole idea with this game, as any other game, is for Anet to make money. They dont have a sub, their only guaranteed money they get from players is when they buy the game. Or was, as there now is a free play option. Still, there wouldnt have been a free to play option if Anet didnt think it would generate more money. It could mean that Anet trust their gemshop more than selling copies of the game, but it could also mean they hope the freeplayers eventually buy gw2.
Nothing wrong with that, it is what it is, its Anets game and they do what they want with it. Some of the recent changes could hint at Anet not making enough money, though its Anet who decides what enough is. It would be pure speculation anyway, as only Anet knows.
The gemshop remainders have been there all the time, likewise the nerfing of farms (against botting. ye right), and the race for gold (gold will get you most of the stuff you need). It is all a part of a game with a gemshop.
You probably know all this, but sometimes I wonder if people forget, or dont see.

JoeytheHutt.1742

If you don’t get my answer that’s your problem. Most stuff with HoT is aimed towards people giving up after a while and reaching for their wallet. Gated items, gated progression is what my post was about, all for one and one reason only.

All the gems in the world cant help you fail an event.

You can spam everyone that does the event with expensive gemstore gifts (or legendary weapons), so that they can’t help but look at them

Saying that this is what Anet intended goes a bit far, though…

still, some gems can get you enough gold to buy most of what you want directly from the tp without doing any event at all, wich I think was the point.

GW2 population after HoT

JoeytheHutt.1742

One guy in my guild told me this week that he was in an empty zone in VB. That no one else was in the whole zone.

So I popped a tag at a champ and in a very very short amount of time, there were 20 people there. The zone wasn’t empty. It was perceived as empty.

Now there wasn’t just one champ on this map. It was nighttime and five champs were all up.

If there were 20 people at each of those, that’s 100 people on the map. We didn’t see 100 people though, only the people who were on my tag.

To add to that, there were probably also people flax farming, or just trying to get hero points, or just trying to unlock waypoints that weren’t at any of the boss locations.

Maps can’t close if there aren’t enough people to create them in the first place.

So it could also mean that there was only 20 people in the map? Or maybe just 10, and 10 players popped in, saw your tag and thought “wow. People”
I do think the megaserver need some tuning, but the “change map” spam I get sometimes, especially in “old” Tyria, make me think on a different question.
How many overflows are there in total?
Imagine the world boss train. Just to take a number, like 400, are doing that. Lets say thats enough to open 3 new instances. They kill the boss, and move on, as trains do, leaving 2-3 empty maps, wich causes me to get the notification to change map 1 – 2 or sometimes 3 times If I happen to be there.
It would appear there are lots of players to create all these overflows, though it could be the same train, the same one group of players, that go around and create most of those overflows.
It would be interesting to know.

Serious question

A few times things I pick up from the bank, mostly guild bank, it wont show up in my inventory. Zoneing doesnt help, I have to log to make them visible again.

JoeytheHutt.1742

I think the biggest issue with some people is how hard the new areas are. Silver wastes was similliar but not quite as bad. Honesty tho it’s a l2p issue. If you’re really having issues then go with a defensive set up until you can learn your class well enough to run around in zerker.

I dont think its “just” a l2p issue. It is probably a part of it, out of the comfortzone and all that, but for it to be true, people would have want to l2p in the first place. And I dont think it is like that.
I dont find hot to be very hard, just very very annoying. Like some of the ls2 instances, fast paced, you had to keep an eye on the surroundings, on your feet and staying alive while figuring out what you needed to do. Lots of people love such things, I dont. And though I usually made them on first try, on my zerker, it was more like a necessary job I “had” to do then a fun little half an hour in my free time where I like to relax and dont think to much about work and life generally.
As I said, the comfortzone probably has something to do with it, but not all. The title of another post, “gw2 isnt a refugee anymore” (or something like that) nails it pretty much in my mind.
It doesnt matter how good or skilled I am, if I dont find it fun. And it isnt really the posters Anet should keep an eye on. They are still here, like me. Its those who dont post, but just logs off and dont look back they should be counting.

Forums Filled With Complaining

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: JoeytheHutt.1742

JoeytheHutt.1742

every patch is/has been followed by complaining, sometimes a lot, sometimes not but always complaints. As I remember it anyway. And a lot of those threads ends up in whiners vs knights battles.
The old saying that happy players isnt on the forum but playing the game has a lot of truth to it, as I see it. And of course, there is also the fact that a complain that concerns you is a valid one, the ones you dont care about is just whining
I dont think complaining on the forum has a lot of value, in itself, apart for the venting. Though one never should underestimate the power of a good venting, I dont really think Anet cares a lot. As I understand it, they can make statisitics out of pretty much anything in game, and those numbers/answers is what decides Anets actions. Of course, if the numbers shows that no-one is doing the meta in hot, Anet probably search the forum for clues, but the numbers is what matters.
Me thinks.

True. In Norway common afternames like Hansen, Olsen and Jensen is originally son of Hans, Ole and Jens.

This. Do you expect people in real life to alter their last name if the gender of the child doesn’t fit the last name? Names like Janssen (Jan’s son) are very common in The Netherlands and yet you see plenty of female Janssen’s around without anyone being bothered by it.

No, I dont expect anything. The only thing that matters with names is what the owner think of it. Im not “bothered” about it, just curious.
Are there any -daughter names in The Netherlands?

All of my names are based on Finnish words. Usually based on a description, like Lyhyt Insinööri meaning ‘short engineer’ for my asura engineer. Right now I am leveling a necro who would be Jory if she were an asura, so have named her ‘Tutkija Helmi’ (investigator pearl, as pearl is the derivation of the name Marjorie). My norn warrior is dressed in blue and white (yes, that includes the white wings) and is Valtava Soturi.

Since some Finns were vikings it fits to have a norn’s name based that way. Although it was a happy accident as it is the naming convention I use for all my characters.

Finnish is as difficult as, well, finnish
As a kid I believed the finnish kids was the slowest to learn talking, simply because finnish is so hard to learn.

One thing to also consider is that many names of this style have come to be used as normal surnames over time, without any regard to what they originally meant. One example would be Swedish actress Greta Garbo, born as a Gustafsson. She was neither a son, nor was her father named Gustaf.
So if we bring modern naming conventions into play, those names aren’t even neccessarily false.

True. In Norway common afternames like Hansen, Olsen and Jensen is originally son of Hans, Ole and Jens. But I dont remember any names that could come from daughter of. Too bad.
I think they still use the “old” names in Iceland, I remember they had a female (worlds first?) prime minister Vigdis Finnbogadottir (or something like that) some decades ago.

Lots of people have made norn chars with made up old nordic names. But I have noticed several names wich is incorrect. Or as incorrect anything can be in a fantasy setting of course.
A correct name is Braham Eirsson. Because he is Braham, son of Eir. But there are several with names like Charles Victoriadottir, wich means Charles, daughter of Victoria. Wich dont make sense.
So, I wonder, are these people simply not aware of what the name means, Or do they know but just like the sound of it?
Or are there something else about it?
Just curious.

"Suggestion" GW2 Dueling updated

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JoeytheHutt.1742

JoeytheHutt.1742

If implemented with an opt-out option under settings there should be no complaints from the anti dueling crowd, any complaints afterwards is just for the sake of argument.

You know, for this to really work you have to sign up for duels or not when you log in, and all the yes-people would have to be blocked from the no-people and vice versa. No tells, whispers, chat, emotes and so on can be seen by the other group. And still Im not sure that someone wouldnt find a way to “u scared?”

Anyway, tells usually isnt a big problem for me, because I dont hang around much in cities where duels tend to take place, but it is a problem for some. Or many. And I wouldnt take upon myself to decide whats a problem for other people and whats not.
I like this game without duels and I will prefer it to stay that way. I’ve had my share of 12-years old mapchat, of people fighting all around when Im trying to shop or talk to a npc , fighting in the middle of an event, and so on.
Maybe dueling in gw2 wouldnt be anything like other games but I really doubt it, and I wouldnt bet on it. As suggested a million times before, make a sone, arena, whatever for duels, with instatravel and pubs and whatnot.

Ls too hard

JoeytheHutt.1742

anyway,,,what I am wondering, is not whether people like the encounter or didn’t find it challenging, I’m wondering if there others who felt it’s too hard…that anet has starting to push to offering “challenging” encounters for those asking for it, but isn’t thinking about those who haven’t.

Well, I would call it annoying more than anything else, and not much fun. And though I am looking forward to an expansion, I do have second thoughts about it, if this is Anets way of “moar challenges”.
I have my hours of playing gw2, I have soloed through LS with different classes in zerker gear. I’ve had some struggles but mostly its been pretty straight forward, very rarely fun, but very often felt like a waste of time. Wich maybe just is another way to say the story isnt good enough to bother with the hassle for me.
Ive been more excited about reaching the end of some of the JP’s than several of the LS boss fights.
Maybe the “hard” part is because you really dont want to play this way? I know myself it certainly doesnt help to feel like that, in RL as in games, nothing is easy when you start to hate.

Leveling crafting doesnt have to be expencive, all you need is time. It doesnt take years to farm what you need, it just seems that way.
Theres alot of nice events in the middle and lower maps with lot of mobs to loot, wich give you most of the mats you need, at least to bring you up to around 300 in crafting.
What you dont need you can sell, or promote for use later.
If you are going for fully ascended chars later on, then you probably have to craft it anyway, so you kinda have to start with it at some point.
Good luck

You guys havent gotten it yet. Its all part of the story. Obviously sylvari cant be trusted after this, and it will probably ruin the pact and the united fight against the dragon. Though the other leaders understand that the sylvari from the pale tree is innocent, they still want the sylvari out of the pact and away, to keep the focus on the dragon(s).
The solution to keep both the peace with the sylvari and the fight against Mordremoth going, is as simple as it is brilliant.
The new maps (hopefully) we get with the exspansion (evenmorehopefully) will be for sylvari only.

But they are so clunky to play to me. And the “darwinism”, the whole “I can gut you, therefor I am right” is a bit over the top for me.
And why would a cat, 2,5 – 3 meters and I dunno, 200-250 (?) kg’s of muscle with horns, teeth and claw need a weapon?

I suggested using retaking Lion’s Arch TODAY, 1327AE – not back in Edair’s time.

To take this somewhat seriously, this would not be a very wise move, in my opinion.
a) A lot of work has been (and still is) put into the effort to make peace with the charr. The peace agreement is by no way stable and solid, with rebels on both side still fighting for their cause. Any excuse they can use to turn the masses with them, would be welcomed with open arms.4
We need peace between the races to stand United against the dragons. A little conquering on the side by any race would maybe not shatter the pact, but no race would dare turn their backs to any other or leave any border weak.
The pact, and therefor the fight against the dragons, would suffer.

b) The orders. We have 3 orders whos goal is to defeat the dragons. Anything that has a risk to delay or hinder or even stop this would probably make one or more of the orders to react. They can team up against a common foe, we’ve seen this with the dragons. I think the 3 orders can be a tough one if they decide to team up against the humans.

what do you mean- better rewards for doing nothing?

log in rewards do not require anything but to log in.

yes, but are they “better”?
Havent really studied it, but wasnt it supposed to be more or less the same?

You got ap points then a random ‘gift’ each time you finished 5 daily things. Now you get something for logging in, something for each thing you do and 10 ap after doing 3. In my case I got between 5 and 7 ap a day so it is ‘better’ and I still get the same laurels (possibly more) spread over 28 days.

From my point of view, Anet has steadily chipped stuff away from the game I started playing 2 years ago. The megaservers was a big hit, before that I could choose if I wanted exploring all by my self or going to well populated maps.
As for the new dailies, now I have to do them. Before most came just by playing as I usually do, now I have to spesifically do dailies. And though they are fast and easy, they still feels like they take more time to do now.
Whats really nagging me, I have started to feel that Anet has lost its vision. Its more about metrics and cost than working towards a grand future.
Perhaps its just me, set in my ways and all that, though I dont think gw2 is an old game. It should be settled in about now, and start the real voyage through the rest of Tyria.

Out of curiosity, why do you feel like you have to do them? What would happen if you didn’t do them?

Bad wording perhaps. I dont “have” to do anything. As I said, before the change, dailies kinda happened while I was doing something else. Now, if I want to do the dailies, I have to spesifically do the dailies.
Running around in queensdale looking for events or checking what time certain worldbosses spawn isnt things I usually do.

How do you find the “easy” part?
I’ve tried 2 times for the bell choir, only option was for southeast arena, nortwest arena or something like that, no Iower or upper, and the notes came fast (for me) and a lot of them.
If thats for beginners I probably never get the daily

Point blank shot is a lifesaver when youre on your own. Used with care, it can be a lifesaver elsewhere too. Mostly for the interrupt.
Its a common belief that rangers are able to predict the future, as a ranger should be aware that someone with a leap attack is running up from behind you, and just as you use your point blank shot to stop the mob youre fighting from rushing you, you ruin the other players impressive leap. On purpose, no doubt about it.
Still, seeing the impressive leaper later, on the ground with a mob gnawing off his right leg and only use autoattack to try to save him, oh Im so sorry, didnt manage to kill it fast enough to save you. Could of course used my knockback, but I thought you didnt like that. WP please, youre scaling

We’re not talking about screwing up leap attacks. It’s more a case of players are already in melee range, until point blank shot comes out, whereupon the group’s damage output drops by at least 50% in trade for the ranger doing 25% more damage. Gloryhunter much?

Not sure what a gloryhunter is.
I know what “we” are talking about, and I agree with most of it. Rangers have pushed mobs away from me to. It is annoying, sometimes its probably trolling, but most of the time I think its not. I also agree that dungeons can be a nasty surprise for ppl who have ranged away behind their pet to lvl 80.
BUT, some people have a thing about blaming the ranger, almost like some hate the zerker meta, or dungeonselling. And, as I tried to point out with my true story, the blaming isnt always justified. It is a part of the package though, and something newcomers should be aware of.

Is anyone happy anymore?

Am I happy?

Yes and no.
The big thing about gw2, the absolute top point for me, its the world Tyria. It is a fantastic and beautiful world. I will probably wander about in it long after I lost all interest in the game. The graphic and the music I still find wonderful, and the world is full of little snippets of conversation between npc’s, little stories and small dramas.
It really makes me smile every now and then.
The drawback with gw2 is its wonderful world. The living story kinda dont live up to it. In this world, arguing about the price of comm tags doesnt fit. I dont know if I can explain it better.
The lack of a “grand plan” from Anet is disheartening. For some time now its almost as a bunch of random people have had turns of steering this ship, with no set direction. At the same time, Anet is slowly but steadily chipping away at stuff I found fun. For me and my playstyle anyway, cant talk for anyone else.
The Lore isnt so fascinating anymore, what point to learn something when its changed later?
But again, what a world Tyria is!

Leveling slow & weak? Discourage new Players?

I have lvled a couple of alts in this new system, didnt really notice any big difference, but knowing where to go, what to do and how to gear up possibly made up for missing traits.

I leveld 4 80s in the old system starting with the very fist beginning and i can asure you there is a big difference.

If you need to “make up” for something you just said yourself its worse now, cause if you did everything right before you would be faster.

A big no no is how it feels to have no traits and how this stalled your gameplay and greaved diversity.

But good to hear they actually once see they made a mistake.

I didnt need to make up for it, I ment it could be the reason why I didnt really notice a big difference.
But I dont count levels, or xp for that matter, because this game is throwing xp around as no other game I tried. If anything, it would be nice to have the option to turn off xp, so you can keep yourself underlvled for sones you really like.
Anarchy online had this, you could stop lvling and saved up xp into a pool, if you wanted to lvl again you got it back on top of the usual xp, making lvling much faster.
But I am with you on the diversity matter, lots of ppl like playing around with builds and try stuff. But I guess anet finds this too confusing for new players.

Traits got delayed to later levels. Which makes you feel totally noob and weak if you were used to the old system.

New players isnt “used to the old system”, so it wont matter in that way. Still, even before the change there was quite a lot of “omg lvling in this game is sloow” in mapchat, and still is.

I miss my days of exploring on a low pop server. Soloing events in remote locations, helping out hylek, quaggans, even some grawls, saving settlements from kraits and bandits and so on. That felt like beeing a real Hero of Tyria. It felt like MY story.
It actually mattered what you did in boss events, all hands on deck to beat the timer, sometimes with just seconds to go.
It was a lot more fun.

Could it be from a personal story?
I have not tried them all, but somehow it feels like I’ve read about those bags before somewhere, mentioned along with a personal story chapter.

Skritt are everywhere. I dont spesifically recall any hostile lvl 15-25 skritt, or maybe there isnt, but look outside maguma. Maybe there is maps without skritt, but there is skritt in ascalon, shiverpeaks and tyria too.
Good Luck
