Did you actually take the time to read the entire thing or did you snip it?

I read it. I even think I understood it. I dont know about making stuff up, this is an example from another game:
“Yeah? Your Nvidia is better than mine? Are you man enough to back up your words and duel me?”
Believe it or not, this is real. I have no clue about age, but I really hope its a 12-year old. Dont you?
Now, Im not saying this is how its gonna be. But your post WAS about duelling to “shut him up”, or rather, that people like me are not skilled enough to do so. Implying that I have a secret dream of beeing able to.
Making up stuff and so on..
As I said, no offence intended, just different mindset.

In that case they don’t want to be bothered because they don’t have the ability to shut the supposed 12 year old up in a duel, ..

No offence, but statements like this is a prime example of what I rather not have in mapchat.

If Im gonna play a new game after Gw2, I will start lookin for subbing games. Im not sure I would sub gw2 if the choice comes up in the future, as Im not a big fan of some of the changes that has been done lately. But who knows.
I didnt buy gw2 because it was a “free” game, I bought it because I found it interesting and I wanted to try it. A sub back then wouldnt made any difference.

Trust me the sub games aren’t as developed or as good as GW2 cough ESO cough. If one game developer that uses the sub business model, they need to put out as much content and patches as A.Net does for a B2P game. Many sub games have gone F2P with CS or Freemium – SWTOR, TERA, RIFT, TSW, etc.

Many have said there will not be any really good games anymore, because the money isnt there any longer. Too many half-decent games spreads the playerbase, and companies like to start earning money at once rather than investing another year in development.
I guess we just have to wait and see.
Subbing to get rid of the impact a gemsshop has is a major point for me. Sometimes gw2 makes me think of a beautiful old city, with interesting history, stunning views and generally a place I want to spend time in, learning and experiencing, get to know.
But instead of paying for the trip and a place to stay while Im there, there is this guy following 5 mtrs behind me, everywhere with offers, special deals and “you DID bring your credit card, right?”

Dont want it.
Make some easily accessable arenas, make some remote area without hearts, vista, poi, events etc into a clearly marked duelling sone or whatever, but dueling around in Kryta?
No, dont want it.
It isnt, as many have pointed out, the duelling in itself that bothers me, its the drama around it. I dont want mapchat filled with endless accusations about hacks, exploits, fear, moms etc. etc.
There is already trolling in this game, why give trollers/harrasers more tools?

Last week I killed Teq every day. One fail since 15th patch. We did it one time with only one commander, though usually there is 3-4.
I dont know if its pugs or not, its at least not the same coms every time, and not the same people around me. There is usually some organising though, in english, german and some french, and it seems people listen.
Im not exactly sure how megaserver works ( i dont think any is, including Anet), but to me the trick is to be there at least one hour before, usually Im 1hr 30mins before.
When I do my farm round while waiting, and see “ostkannonen aufpasser 3/5” or something like that, I know theres a chest waiting for me.

I think its the wrong way to look at it.
Trains/zergs are the easiest way to farm almost anything, you got some gold, karma, loot, rares and the chance of valuables. And its fast.
I dont think it is about enjoying or having fun so much, zerging is a tool, not a goal.
Of course there are ppl who finds this fun too, I do occasionally. Besides, finding something challenging thats not zerged is almost impossible in the open world.
Its not a player-problem, its a game mechanics problem. Zergs arent destroying the game, Anet is.

Sounds like you have never tried taking on world bosses in a small group. Because if you had you would know that a lot of the times you actually have to use your skills in a timely manner, pulling off heals without being interrupted, make use of combo fields and finishers, corrdinate rezzing each other. In general, you actually had to have a decent build + decent skills to win. Which was far better than the spam fest with a 100 players in one location that is plaguing the game in it’s current state.

Not sure how I “sound” what you think. Im from one of the lowest pop servers, Teq was very rarely done, Jormag occasionally. Even Shatterer was hard to get enough ppl for regular kills.
I know how beeing few against world bosses is. Its even easier/faster for some of them.
Those days are gone, now most everything is done with lots of ppl. And you cant choose not to. Before the15th I could.
It was way more fun to make it in the last minute, not as it is now when we are not even close to fail. It was also more fun to explore maps when there wasnt anybody to res you, or you had to clear out a skill point alone. And I could run around with max settings.
But those days are gone.
I wish they wasnt.

There is some confusion because the screen may have shown 2/4, but after intensive research we have found no evidence to suggest that anyone did not get everything to which he or she was entitled to in terms of daily and monthly laurels.

Just for clarification, Im not sure I understand the “entitled” part. I couldnt do dailies for some days, because they didnt reset. Is this simply just showing in your research as “didnt do his dailies”?

only way to avoid it is to go “best perfomance” option on graphic for me. After fiddling a bit with the settings, I only need this for Teq. Other bosses keeps a fps at 8-10.
Havent tried in WvW yet, but I imagine I need minimum settings, wich make wvw unplayable as I only see a handful of ppl in a big zerg.
It started this year, after some LS patch, where game started to freeze, black screen while the music continued. Had to reboot.
After the feature patch, game just crashes, the “send report” pops up and to desktop. I can log in again right away, without any difficulties.

Just out of curiosity, were you guesting on the server where the bounty was kicked off from?

We found last week that off-server guildies who partied up with and rightclick-joined our “natives” for a bounty did not get commendations. However, when we re-did the bounty with the off-server folks guesting first and then rightclick-joining, they were able to get commendations. The first glitchy run they did enough damage to the targets to qualify for gold-level rewards, but it seems guesting is still required for the game to recognize where they are (megaservers or not). Sorry, hope that made sense!

No didnt guest, was on mine and the guild home server like always.
I did have the reset bug after patch, couldnt do dailies, asc crafting or get daily boss chest for a while, might be related to that, but I dont know.

It may not be a big deal for anybody else, but it is starting to be annoying to me.
Just a yes/no if theres a point in doing guild mission tomorrow, if its possible.

It IS nice to see more people around, I’ve done more temples than before. I also done a few champs I didnt know existed, so there is that.
Still, gw2 have now become somewhat more boring. The days of challenging a vet a lvl or two above you to get that skill point is over. The days of beeing a bit short on people and still try a boss/event is gone.
Bumping into guildies around the world seeems to be gone too. That was fun. I think I see more commanders than guildies now.
Before the patch, I could run with max setting, only struggling when two big zergs met in wvw. Now most world bosses and events with lots of people force me to go down to be sure to not crash and miss loot.
Party is a joke. I teamed up with someone to help him with jp’s. Megaserver split us up when soning.
Every. Single. Time.
I see a lot of people are happy with megaserver, and Im happy for them. I really is.
But it need a lot of fixing, tuning, adjustments, whatever, before the game feels as good as before megaserver for me.

Why is zerging so encouraged in this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JoeytheHutt.1742

JoeytheHutt.1742

It’s simply a by-product.

In this game you don’t go for specific items but you grind gold to buy your items. This is related to them wanting to sell gems.
See: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Please-rethink-the-whole-reward-system/first#post3953185
and:  https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/A-focus-on-micro-transactions/first

So if you don’t need to go do specific content or to a specific place to get the item you need but you need gold (or another currency) then the way to get it is by getting as much (pretty good) loot as possible so you can sell that for gold. Then zerging is one of the more likely ways to get that.

it is Good for the game as a whole, and it is great for people on low Population servers.

The game doesn’t revolve around my a**.

Or " The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."

I dont agree. Beeing on a lowpop server we are thrown around at whatever map that isnt full. Even with guildies it seems totally random where you end up.
And now, with this default idiotic “fix”, Im still running around in my own little bubble of one. Oh yes, I can see some others but they dont say anything.
Doing a world boss event, or any event for that matter, with 50+ other people without a word is downright creepy.
Seriously, try it while it lasts, its weird as a young cat.

For me, having lots of different languages in mapchat makes it harder to follow the english comments I look for, when organising or following an event. Maybe Im not used to it, that it will be easier with time, I dont know.
I have nothing against other languages or people who speak them, as I am a “foreigner” too. English isnt my first language.
As for courtesy or rules, I find it very rude to use language not all understand in partychat. As in real life, for me it is normal to use a language all around a table can understand, excuse myself if I need to talk my language for some reason, and explain what was said afterwards.
I understand that not all can or like to speak english, theres a lot of things I find hard to explain in english. That someone want to ask/clarify something in their native tounge is natural. But a long conversasion would for me best be taken in privat. Wich of course is impossible when there is whole communities sharing chat.

Though it is nice to see people around, some of the fun of actually playing is gone. I explored Timberline on an alt, and it was more or less crawling with people. Events was over almost before they started, and 4-6 players at every skill-point made the exploring a breeze. So nice, but kinda boring.
A lot of events/bosses are now just a zerg/lagfest, removing the little challenge and fun that was.
What is not nice at all, is when you try to do things with your guild. This is a serious issue for me. We tried everything we could think of, but it was impossible to gather all at one place/instance. Even guildies who where teamed didnt make it.
I would really like some sort of answer or something from Anet on those issues, if this is how its gonna be or if there will be some changes.
As it is now, it is a gamebreaker for me. Theres no point in playing and having fun with friends and guildies if its only the guildchat we share the same instance on..

As long a Anet “owns” the economy, and have their intention with it, can you really compare real life economic with gw2’s?
I obviuosly dont know, but surely Anet would look upon the TP as a tool to help making money for them as everything else in the game is supposed to do?
As in keeping prises relatively high compared to most players ingame income, to “nudge” so many players as possible to buying gems?

well, by your logic absolutely everything could be an offence, even radio, if you choosed to “understand” it kitten. No matter what is/was the intent. So it cant just be the receiver’s judgement who decides whats offencive or not. Because “reasonable” isnt always easy to agree on.

And by your logic nothing is offensive, as the speaker will simply choose to ‘intend’ it inoffensively. No. The interpretation is always in how the statement is understood, as only the person offended will know whether they’ve been offended. The Code of Conduct exists to protect the gaming environment, and people in the gaming environment. It’s not there to protect your ‘freedom of speech’ (in fact, it strongly infringes upon it. Quite legally, too.). ‘Reasonableness’ – an objective standard – simple means that calling someone a radio wouldn’t be offensive, because, as I stated earlier, even if it carried a perjorative meaning, it otherwise only refers to an inanimate object. If radio commonly meant ‘homosexual’ and you were using it to mean ‘bad’, then yes, that would be offensive.

You proves my point, if everybody changed gay to radio, it would be offencive because its intention is offencive.
In my part of my country, there was once a guy who called a policeman a certain part of a horse. He got away with it, because the judge found that particular word to be an everyday word in that region, used in a lot of situations, expressing amasement as much as anything else, kinda like “what?”.
In the opposite end of my country, a guy got fined quite heavily for the same word, as it was very offensive to a policeman.
Intent.
Innocent until proven otherwise is there for reason. I certainly want the chance to explain I ment no harm and that I am sorry for it, rather than to be at the mercy of your feelings about a word I couldnt possibly know you had feelings about.
It is not “my” freedom of speech, I have no problems with what Im allowed to say or not ingame, freedom of speech doesnt give you the right to say whatever you like anyway. And people should think about their wording, in game as everywhere else.
The point about laws is that Anet cant ignore them, whatever you say. Anet can make restrictions, but they cant allow you to do something that is illegal. Anet would be in big trouble if ingame chat was used to sell and buy drugs, if Anet knew it and didnt do anything about it.

You shouldn’t be playing this game if that’s what you really believe. You agreed with their terms, which clearly contradict your views. There’s no “freedom of speech” in GW2 when it’s hate/offensive speech. So no, it’s not the “real world” as you put it, and by playing, you are agreeing to these terms.

Of course one should learn to ignore jerks, but that’s far from saying that jerks should be jerks in the first place. I report them as they come, but have been lucky in that I haven’t seen that many cases of bigotry in GW2’s chat. I would have reported many of those people in the images shown on the first page.

I should not be playing.. ..?
I dont think you understand. No matter how much this game is Anet’s property and whatever we agree on, Anet can’t ignore real world laws. There are laws about how they sell gems, there are laws about what they are allowed to let us do and so on. Not spesifically about freedom of Speech (a consept a lot of people dont understand), but in a lot of things.
No moderation at all would make this game illegal in many countries, and also give Anet lots of trouble pr-vise. So they dont do that, as in real worlds mechanics decides whats in and what can be done in this virtually world the game is. The game isnt a stand alone thing of its own with its own laws.
Totally agree about jerks. But if we want to get rid of jerks, we need to stop them from beeing jerks, not give them a list of words theyre not supposed to use. But as we probably cant manage that, we need moderation and report options.

I think it was Oscar Wilde who once said:
-“The good thing about democracy is freedom of speech. The bad thing is its used so often.”
Or something along the lines of that.

A word is never racist or homophobic or anything, its the intent that is. It is what you mean by saying it. Like if you dont want to swear in front of your kids and you start to use the word “radio”. You are still swearing, and after a while the kids will learn what you mean when saying “radio”.
As you would, if everybody started to use “radio” instead of gay. Would it still hurt?
By now everybody knows “kitten” mean emphazising something. Is it better to say “kitten you”, than something else?
It is all about context, intent and situations.
Something I had to learn as a kid, was that it was often MY choice to let someone ruin my day or not. I am me, and the only one that is me, why would I let some random idiot make me feel bad? Even more so if its just some who tries to sound cool because they think they have to? Poor them.

Incorrect. It’s not the intent behind a statement, it’s how that statement is understood. Either subjectively or from the perspective of the proverbial reasonable person.

Now, your example misses the point. It’s not saying ‘X thing is gay’ that is offensive to LGBT people. It’s the implication that gay means bad. If people started saying ‘X thing is radio’ instead, that would be offensive to… radios. Which are inanimate objects, rather than people, so we really don’t care. For a better example, see my post above about ‘Jewish.’

As for choice to let someone ruin your day: this is a game, not the real world. What that means is there is no such thing as freedom of speech/expression – Anet can moderate anything at will. That’s why we can report people, because Anet wants their game environment not to be offensive to anyone. As such, if players are routinely using offensive language, those offended by the language have a valid concern, which isn’t going to be solved by people saying “Just get over it. It’s your own fault you let it get to you.”

well, by your logic absolutely everything could be an offence, even radio, if you choosed to “understand” it kitten. No matter what is/was the intent. So it cant just be the receiver’s judgement who decides whats offencive or not. Because “reasonable” isnt always easy to agree on.
And about this not beeing the real world, that is somewhat stretched, because its real people, in real time saying real words. And Anet is very fond of peoples real money in this game. I am not saying theres no difference between real world and games, and yes Anet is the “god” on Tyria and can do/not do lots of stuff, but they are not above the real world laws and need to stay within limits. Virtual world or not.
Choosing to feel bad or not worked for me. If it dont work for others, well Im sorry.

As Malchor leap has changed a lot lately (for me at least), I find that it takes a lot longer to gather stuff there. If I wp to the last known location and it isnt there, I “have” to wp again because I think its easier to start the search in an end of a map. Not a big thing, but maybe I already have wp’ed twice to get there when they have broken the map.
But as it seems champ/worldboss farming is taking a hit, theres maybe more people around gathering, wich can hold maps open forever and nodes never change. Depends on how this we-dont-have-population-issues-so-we-dont-need-server-merge actually works.

The prophet Doc Holiday arrives, no-one knows exactly where or when. Disturbing reports from different located outposts about cult-like gatherings, even some of the heroes from Lions Arch are suspected to participate.
The Prophet are almost impossible to hunt hown, he (we believe its a he) arent easily spotted, as he often walks amongs others in same clothes as everybody else. Though some claim to know that he usually wears cleric armor.
It is indeed possible that this isnt just one person, it could be some sort of Secret order, but so far most reports suggest it is just this Doc Holiday.
Excactly what is going on or what purpose is still unknown, but some claim that they are training in healing and taunting eachother.
As noone understands the reasoning behind such behaviour, it is strongly recommended you report anything suspicious, and preferably stay away from him or any of his followers.

I honestly dont get why so many have this champtrainhate. If you dont like it, dont do it? A few times I have seen some drama about the zerg think they “own” the champs, when someone (haters?) go around killing outside the train, but nothing serious. I’ve seen way more drama elsewhere.
And if champtrains is a problem, nerfing champs will not solve the problem, just move it on to something else.
Higher droprates overall, slightly better loot on vets than standard mobs, better rewards on de’s, sonespesific armor/weapon drops are things I believe would make more people wandering about.
But as long as farming gold to buy stuff is seen as easier and more effective than farming the stuff directly, (and it probably has to be this way because Anet depends on people buying gold), zergs/champtrains will always be there in some form.

I’d be happy if they moved it out of a starter zone. It’s a terrible introduction to the game for people just starting out, and some of those minor incidents you’re referring to can really put new players off.

I agree somewhat, and I know of people that didnt dare to join the train because they thought it was only for high end people. Shame on the Train. But then again it is very nice to see a lvl 80 tag up, giving wp’s, offering to run by foot with those who hasnt been there yet, explaing how it works and so on. It is how every train should be, in my eyes. But people are people, and will always be people.
In the end I do think its good that high lvl’s have something to do in the startersone, perhaps there are better ways than champs. Though I still remember my first behe and the very nice high lvl who ressed me and told me what to do

Thank you, ANet

No Holy Trinity = Boring?

Watching people that know what they are doing is always fun, be with trinity or not. Watching a master tank at work when things get hairy is simply amazing. As with really good healers. Or if you lack the masters, a team that have to distribute aggro, communicate, decide and act in syncronity, where the survival of the team is what matters, because its the only way to win.
Though without the trinity, there is plenty of teamwork in gw2, and its just as fun to see good teams in action, though failure in gw2 rarerly matters that much. A mild annoyance mostly, not several days of xp wasted.
If theres gonna be “interesting” boss mechanics, and condition and cc is to become as viable as dps, its hard to see how Anet can avoid roles. As in spesific proffesions for spesific bosses/dungeons.

I was actually a bit surprised first time I unlocked weapon-swapping that it didnt include utilities as well.
I would like to have hotswaps of setup, one for solo and one for group.
So +1 from me.

Will the dye market recover do you think?

It depends of a lot of things, and I think its hard to guesstimate what will happen. A lot of people maxed out their palette, more duplicated as much as possible and lot of people are speculating.
Though you get a new unid for every duplicate, there will still be less dyes than before, as 1000 duplicates needs 2000 dyes and you get 1000 in return. The dye market will already be somewhat drained when the supply almost stop. How big/small the new supply will be, no-one knows.
There is still a lot of people who is missing colours because the price spiked, they will probably buy when all the new unid/id are available after patch, at a lower price then now. How big this drain is, impossible to say. And of course, some new players will buy up over time. And speculators.
The biggest factor in all this, is the supply.
I believe dyes will be more expencive, and climb as time passes. How fast or much I have no idea.

What do you mean with infocontrol?
If it’d be announced 2 weeks before, we would just see tp react 2 weeks before.
Wouldnt it?

If the “unid dye” portion of the blog was never mentioned until release it would have avoided much of the current market turmoil.

The only reason common dyes are so expensive right now is because players grabbed them to get free unid dyes after the patch goes live.

Without people duplicating, we would face a patch where dyes suddenly were removed from loot-tables. Wich probably mean unid dyes would spike after patch.
No sensible person would pop all their “free” unids at once, as no-one knows how big the drop in supply is.
Im not sure there is a “good” way to do this (apart from keeping it drop), I believe the prices would raise anyway. I will not be surprised if unid becomes way more expencive 4-5 months from now on, as Anet want us to spend gems for stuff rather than play for stuff.
At least those who are workin on the gift got a warning.
Maybe the price of commons wouldnt change so much, but it would go up, as people would speculate, buy for forging or just get them in fear of future prices.

Dye Changes Feedback/Questions

Yeah, I will miss dye drops. Though I can craft them in the future, gather 100 of this and 100 of that for a guaranteed dye, it just isnt the same.

What is going on with Harvesting Nodes?

Node locations have changed more often lately, now its at least once every 24 hr. Earlier it used to stay the same for a week or two. Malchor Leap change for every character, and finding the nodes for every run is somewhat time-consuming.
The coming changes to dyes will make these runs even more boring for me. Finding a new colour every once in a while was a nice thing.

-“When have we, gamers, let efficiency take priority over having fun whilst playing a game?”

I dont think its just gamers, its people in general. We, all of us, “know” more of the world around us today than we used to, and as we are human beeings, we kinda get stuck on what we dont have rather than what we have.
I’ve been in games where you can pay someone else to lvl your char for you. It is somewhat understandable if its you 13th char, though I wonder whats the point to start a new on in the first place. But I’ve seen people do it with their first one, and thats basically pay to not play, and I dont get it at all.
Still, people are different, so..
In this game, I think the speedclaring is something that a lot of people feel forced to do, because its so much easier to farm gold and buy whatever you need, than go around farming what you need to craft stuff or trusting rng for some lucky drops. The difference in time is HUGE. So, since for a lot of people it isnt fun, but something you “need” to do, lets get it over with as fast as possible.
Instead of zerker/non-zerker, I think a lot could be done if Anet looked more into why people “need” to speedclear, but I could be wrong. Obviously.
But this game is about Anet making money, or support as they like to say, every decision will be related to that.

Gift of blades, I just wasted 5 gold

Also, IMO 5g is not that big of a deal. I bought that recipe then realized to make the light version of the backpack I’d need about 100g (crafting most of the stuff myself). So here I am, dumping all my money on a backpack when I could be spending it somewhere else…..

There is no “light version of the backpack”. All the 3 gift recipes produce exactly the same end result, so, regardless on which character the backpack is going to end on, there’s no reason not to use the cheapest option.

But if you are a tailor, the “light” recipe is the one you can make.
Or?
