game-breaking bug vs. desire to play

Had this bug for weeks after the megapatch. Fixed when I started a new char, though I dont know for sure if it was connected. No explanation from Anet.
In mapchat it seems someone mention this bug it every week.
Good luck

random disconnects are increasing. Earlier I mostly dc’ed in boss fights like op, or when zerg meets zerg in wvw. This was solved through lower graphical settings, for me at least.
Now dc’es happen when wp’ing, sorting bank and so on. Lately I got an error code wich I dont remember right now, but the forum explained it as banned ip’s.
Dc, wait a bit, and log in again. Annyoing.
I dont know if its related, but I loose target more often now than before, and I wonder if that too are little hiccups, like almost dc’ing.

Farming in Orr

I usually dont mind those farms, but lately the use of caps and name-calling in chat is too much. There is a number of reason why ppl want the event to succed, and “trolling” is just one of them. (btw, does anybody else find it hilarious that succeding an event is “trolling”?)
If only the farmers could be polite about it, accept a few less bags once in a while and move on, there wouldnt be any problems. As it is now, with reports of abuse and harrasment, Anet will most likely nerf it, and everybody loose.

It would be nice if companies, like Anet, would be open about what they not are working on. Way too often game developers knows that certain things isnt gonna make it into the game, but they prefer to leave as many doors as possible open, to keep players hanging in there in the hope of maybe.
I think it would be nice with some kind of “what we want this year”-post, it would be even nicer with “sorry, was to difficult, too high cost, change of plan”-post, rather then hope ppl forget about it.
Anet is not alone in this kind of hyping/half-promises, and though everybody understands that plans and hopes can change, I dont understand why it seems it must be secret.
Granted, I have not read everything Anet has posted. Maybe they have locked some doors without my knowing, I mostly read forums, wich isnt the only place Anet communicate. Funnily enough..
Anets “problem”, as many other gamedevelopers, they have said too much in the past. And now its quite easy to jump to the conclusion that it was deliberatly, to make people buy the game and to make them stay.
I dont think anyone has lied. I just dont think that everybody have been completely honest.
Wich, sadly, happens all the time.
Everywhere.

  • The art district of Divnitiy’s Reach is destroyed without explanation. The architecture of said district was canthan design. (Divnity’s Reach – 6 districts – 6 human origins but that needs to get determined)

Wasnt there something about the Canthan arcitechture was/is a mixmatch of different asian designs/culture, and because of gw2 release in China Anet was afraid of offending the chinese players?
If this is true, it will also make a canthan expansion more unlikely.
Not sure where and when I read it though.

Aggression to players in teams unique to GW2?

I can assure you this isn’t the case, otherwise I wouldn’t have made the thread.

For example, I played Anarchy Online for 7 years. Despite it’s age, it has THE most complicated gearing system I have ever seen; Almost all the gear is skill required and those skills can be buffed in multiple ways. In addition, the content is still very difficult with raids from single team (6 people) to zones that require upwards 12 teams. to complete. Despite the wide variation and raids and difficulty (It’s actually easy to fail a raid there, even to this day) never once playing that game did someone tell me “Oh, your build isn’t correct” or kick someone for not having the right gear. Gear was a non factor in completion and was a significant portion in your overall stats (at least 50%).

So you can understand for me to go from that, to here and read all this ‘play this way’ stuff, astounds me.

Different experiences. Certain proffesions could be kicked if they had wrong weapons, docs and enfos mostly. On the other hand, a decreasing population ment you didnt had a lot to choose from, so you kinda had to work with what you got. Beeing a part of a working guild was more important than in gw2.
After the inspect came, some ppl wouldnt team you if you had it off. Lots of ppl demanded you turned the social gear off, to see what armor you got, preferably alien armor, if they didnt inspect.
The twinking aspect of Anarchy online was really great. What the best twinkers was able to do was mind-boggeling. I have seen ppl use “get my twink” in gw2..

Your choice, really.
Anet would love it if you buy gems, transfer to gold and buy all mats. This is the reason farming is generally the slowest method of aquiring almost anyhting in this game.
I believe most people farm gold in whatever way they find bearable and then buy the mats they need.
Some simply give up

It is possible to buy mats and lvl up on crafting. I dont know how many lvls you get, but its gonna cost you alot.
Look for crafting guides to get an estimate of how much gold you need to lvl each craft before you start spending your gems, just an idea.

Precursors price

JoeytheHutt.1742

If Anet put precursors in the gem store for 4000 gems ($50) they’d sell hundreds of thousands of them in a week. And a month later, hundreds of thousands of players would quit the game because they are bored and have nothing to work towards.

This one Im not sure I understand. There is nothing stopping you from buy a precursor with real money (through gems) today, from the tp?
You can even flat out buy a legendary, (remember you can always buy gems and transfer to gold, Anet says hi), wich makes any arguments about whos supposed to own a legendary and whos not somewhat ridiculous.
I think youre right about a lot of players quit if they got their legendary. I have given up on it, and it is one less reason to log in. Dont know if I would log in at all if I suddenly had one.
But there is also players who dont log in anymore, because the legendary was all there was left for them, and all the needed mats and the price/rng for the precursor seemed hopeless.

Gemstore Pickaxes Becoming Unfair?

You’ve clearly stated what you’ve gained from it, those spinal blades are very expensive, and yet you have them on all your characters because of this pickaxe. Of course you wouldn’t want this stripped from you, but how would you feel if you weren’t the one benefitting? I’ll tell you right now, most players aren’t in your situation. I don’t blame you for enjoying what you have going, but once again, I too own one of these pickaxes, mine doesn’t help me in anyway shape or form. To me they should be equal, but clearly as you’ve shown, that one generates a lot of usefulness.

As to sending a support ticket, Arena Net isn’t obligated in satisfying me. I can’t return an item I’ve had for a very long time and have gotten good usage out of. I’d be totally down for trading it, but currently, that’s not a possibility as far as I’m aware of.

I think it needs to be stated to that just because a particular person is benefitting doesn’t make it fair. There’s a theoretical 1/3 chance anyone bought the watch work pickaxe… so there’s a lot of unsatisfied people, particularly since it’s the most recent. When I got mine, there wasn’t another option.

I know the blade shards are expencive, the pickaxe costed me gems. I dont know how many shards I would have gotten by transfering gems to gold and then bought sprockets to make shards, but I suspect it would be less. Wich would have been an advantage for those that had the sprocket node longer than me. Not to mention that without the pickaxe, sprockets would have been way more expencive. And I probably wouldnt have tried to get the backpack for my alts.
Wich is ok, what I never had I probably wouldnt miss.
But Your “unfair” Im not to sure about. The pickaxe have been possible to get twice as far as I know, and at least the last time, most people was aware of the sprockets and the advantages. If its unfair that some people cant afford the pickaxe, then all the unbreakable harvesting tools are unfair, as they save Inventory space and generally make life easier in Tyria. Wich is why I bought mine, the sprockets was a surprise. I have several sets with unbreakable tools, the watchwork pickaxe was just to complete a set on an alt.
If you mean its unfair that its just the one tool that give the bonus, I agree, it is a a bit unfair. It would also be a bit unfair to me, if they suddenly take away the bonus now, as I have planned with it in mind. And lol at Anet, I havent bought any tools after the pickaxe, because, as we seen, there is probably a better one later.

Edit: wrong wording

I’d actually love to see the other infinite tools get some sort of unique bonus. Some ideas:

- Molten Pick has a chance to drop extra gems, including Azurite. It can potentially mine Azurite Orbs from Orichalcum nodes.

- Consortium Sickle has a chance to drop Passionflowers.

- Jack-in-the-Box Sickle has a chance to drop random Halloween ingredients, including Candy Corn, Nougat, Chattering Skulls etc.

- Frost Wasp Axe has a chance to drop Snowflakes. The tier of Snowflake depends on the tier of the tree being logged.

I’m having trouble thinking of what extra drops the Aetherblade Axe, Bone Pick and Thresher Golem could give though.

Now, the downside to this move is that it would make the infinite tools unquestionably better than the generic tools sold by merchants. This could raise the spectre of “p2w” by new players.

I still think the safest move would be to remove the extra Sprocket chance from the Watchwork Picks, although to be honest, it would be a big blow to my income. My playstyle means I harvest a LOT; I’ve already earned enough extra Sprockets to pay for my first Watchwork Pick, and am well on my way to paying for the 2nd.

I agree the watchwork pickaxe is debatable, but I really hope they do nothing about it. I use it to make the spinal backpack for all my chars, and having some alts, the pick is a way to get blade shards.
Another way to “solve” this could be to make a way to farm them, as dry top, where there is some crystal nodes. We could stumble upon Scarlets workshop, or where the steamcreatures made copies of themselves. They surely needed to get sprockets from somewhere?
Your idea with other harvesting tools to have a chanse at different mats is interesting, but as Anet hasnt done it by now, I think they dont want to. Or dare to.
But then again, Anet change their minds pretty often..

The TP, a "philosophical" question.

in Black Lion Trading Co

JoeytheHutt.1742

I’ve come to think about this when Mr. John Smith mentioned in another topic, that there are measurements in economics for how much a child is being loved by its parents. Sad but true.

I think this is wrong. It isnt about the “amount” of love, it is about behaviour patterns, statistics and years of research in human psykology.
There is no way to predict with 100% certainty how a single human reacts to whatever, though it is much easier/closer with crowds.

I think alot of the economical/tp discussions overlook one important point. An economy isnt a stand-alone thing, it is a tool. And as every tool it has a purpose. And in gw2 its Anet that decides what purpose the ingame economy has.
There are often posts that compare economies, with other games, with countries and so on, and though some basics are the same you cant really compare a economy based on cathing fish with an economy based on selling cars. Add in different political goals and whats right in the first can be very wrong in the other.

I dont think the tp “fits” with the game, but any other way would make it less accessible and/or timeconsuming.
I think it is a flaw that the tp can give higher rewards than running around playing the game, but Anet obviuosly think its ok, so there.
After all, we are not here to play a game, we are here to generate money.

TP-flipping, the bane of Guild Wars 2?

in Black Lion Trading Co

JoeytheHutt.1742

I dont think the flipping in itself will be the “bane” of gw2. I think it have something to do with the fact that it is so easy and/or rewarding. Or it is believed to be so.
Almost every “where to farm x” question is answered with “tp” when asked in game. And most of the time this is true.
I dont know much about flipping, I dont use the tp much. I do know however, that without the tp, things take a lot of time. And so far, I have the time. But I’ve seen people that dont have the time. Yes, I guess I can say they are impatient.
But I can also say that for a lot of people the game isnt fun enough for people to stick around long enough to get whatever they “need” without tp, dungeonrunning or buying gems.
For a lot of people, flipping isnt playing the game. This may be true or not. Its personal opinions, but doing unfunny things hardly feel like playing, whatever you do to entertain yourselfes. It is grinding.

This seems very complicated to fix something Im not sure needs fixing. Adding another currency will be something that needs explaining, and in my experience, there is already a lot of stuff new players need explained. Different currencies is already a big part of that.
It is also, as I see it, not fixing a problem, it is trying to fix a symptom. I believe the real problem is the race for gold, wich I believe we cant do much about, as this is a fundamental part of how Anet are making money of this game.
But if enough people think flipping is ruining the game, then it is something Anet need to take seriously, true or not.
Though I rather not add another currency or complicate things more, I do believe you have given this a lot of thought.
Just for the record, I dont use the tp much, and mostly for selling stuff. I dont think I would notice this change if I understand it correctly.

I think most ppl that are against it, have experience with it, whats so hard to understand about ppl beeing different with different opinions?
Make a zone for duels, with instatravel and hot dogs and a pub or whatever, but I would like to keep most of tyria without duels.

Untrue. Forging a tier giver as a result upgrade from the same tier, or one tier above (small chance). That upgrade can be a gem, mark/crest, or (rarely) a doubloon. You can’t get silver doubloons forging a high tier gems, nor can you get platinum forging pebbles.

Then there is a bug somewhere. I have once gotten a platinum from pebbles. And nuggets can give copper, silver, gold and platinum. Mostly silver, with gold occasionally, but copper and platinum does happen.
It is some time ago, so maybe its fixed. It would be nice if its like you say.

1. I tried this, but not much luck. I used only one char, and it was about 1-2 doubloons a month. Maybe just very bad luck, but I gave up on that one.
2. better than 1. Farming iron and silver in the right lvl maps gives you nuggets, wich have a chance of returning silver doubloons in the mf. Selling iron can make some gold to buy doubloons. If you have the watchwork pick you can make more gold.
3, Fastest in my experience.

There is also the option to farm bags, I had a doubloon every 50 or so bag. I havent tried to buy bags from tp, but some do that. I preferred the dredges, they seemed to drop more bags. Dont have numbers, could be wrong.
Every method needs lots of time, you have to see what suits you best. I mostly went with farming iron, as wandering about is what I tend to do anyway.

Just look at how often people use knockbacks at ridiculous moments when a melee train is trying to nail a mob. It’s common sense not to do that, it shouldn’t need a long old tutorial to realise that is for the main part an idiotic thing to do, and yet it happens time after time after time again.

I notice it when people are doing this at champions and world bosses events. You do realize some of them are doing it on purpose so that it screw over other people damage. Some of them aren’t in a party. It is a matter of “I am range and you are not.” It is a matter of "I am screwing up your damage so I have better chance at getting credit for this. " It is matter of conflict of interest.

Sometimes its unintended, at least I have pressed the wrong key from time to time. There is also pets with knockbacks, though the user should be aware of it.
Also, on some bosses knockback works as an interrupt, sometimes stun them, though you get the “immune” msg. At least they did, dont know if this is changed.

Heh, forgot to say who I was thinking of..

I just got somewhat fascinated with op’s idea that maybe the gods are lookin for a new pet-project. Perhaps the gods is part of the same cyklus as the dragons, and the gods will return in some form, maybe as the six, maybe as nature spirits, maybe as whatever the Tengu worship, or even the skritt. Or maybe not.
Its just some what if’s, the thought of an endless ongoing cyklus with dragons destruction followed by the gods rebuilding followed by dragons destruction and so on and so on, is fascinating to me.
I dont know if anybody knows how many times the dragons have rised, if its the third or the hundred, but IF the gods are preparing to come back, lookin for someone to “help”, I think the Tengu could be a choice.
And, speculating while writing this, the grawl do remind me of the jotun, that they too could be a former glory who has fallen. Maybe they had the gods favour before the jotun?
Probably a lot of flat out wrongs in this, but it is fun to try “what if”

Thats why they didnt lift a finger to help when Scarlet flattened LA, they are waiting for the world to be destroyed so they can be the next superior race on Tyria, and they believed Scarlet was the start of that.

I agree with your post, and your reasoning is probably why toyota ( I think) some years ago told how much money they would spend on researching greener engines at that time, though not spesicially what fuel or how big part of the total researchteam it was.
Numbers was big, but no-one knew if it was 10% or 90%, wich would have told more about the dedication.

Unless you have money in the business – they DON’T have to tell you anything (and even if you do, they still don’t have to tell you anything). It is more of the ‘I am ENTITLED’ to this information because I am a player. Sorry no.

So, you want to feel good about this game. Having this information gives you nothing towards that (see my ‘ENTITLED’ comment above).

I mean, GM, Ford, Toyota, etc. don’t tell you how many people are involved with the design and engineering of a new car. The same can be said for here.

Microsft doesn’t tell you how many people are involved with the production of the Xbox one. Why would you need to know to own one? Does it make you feel any better/

Not trolling, I just don’t see why this information is important for other than complaining?

Im not sure I understand. If I want to know how many in toyota whos working on making cars “greener”, and Im not satisfied with the answer, I dont buy a toyota.
What do entitlement have to do with it?

Because he said it would ‘ADD’ to his happiness in game – that is ENTITLEMENT pure and simple. Does that mean if he doesn’t get it he won’t be happy? No it means that HIS IDEA of how A.Net should be developing the game is right – that is the classic definition of entitlement.

Well, I still dont think I get it.
Lets stick with toyota, and lets say greener car in the future is really important to me. If I think toyota are the ones who put most resources into it, it would make me feel better driving around in one, though it technically has nothing to do with the actual car I bought.

And yes of course my idea of how a game should be and develop is right. For me.
How can it not?
We all look for a game thats more or less fits with our idea of how it should be, not how it fits with somebody elses idea. What would be the point of that?

Either a misunderstanding or something I did wrong then. Its a month or so ago anyway, I gave up on my tokens after posting in Gaile’s thread didnt result in anything.
I’ll wait a few days before I try your suggestion on my wvw-chest, as long as a “please rate our support” dont show up they are maybe working on it.

A silly question about support ticket

What does it mean when my request is updated?
Finished? Solved?
I had a ticket about missing guild mission rewards, wich got “flagged” and then “updated” and then nothing. No reward, no explanation, they just wanted me to rate the support.
Now I got my ticket about the wvw-chest “updated”. And no chest or explanation.
Am I supposed to do anything? I dont have any further information, nothing has changed, should I write “nope, still nothing” and send in?
As I said, probably a silly question, but I really am confused about this.

Finding a good Teq group

Funny…we need to join an elite guild to kill Teq. Anet really failed!

You dont need to join anything. Show up early, mine platinum and hard wood while you wait and follow the commands given in chat before/during the fight.
After a while you understand german and french orders too.
Easy.

I answered him(?) once, out of curiosity, and he is looking for a girl from one spesific town in Sweden. Wich make me believe hes looking for one spesific girl.
I obviously dont know, but if he needs to search for one particular girl this way, I really wonder why.
I find it somewhat creepy.
And for the record, Im not a girl and not from Sweden.

come to think of it, doesnt world bosses count towards events, champs and such?
If you have the waypoints its every 15 minutes.

Edit: And Orr. With a little luck there is a train in Orr.

Not ment as a pep talk or anything, but the lowlvl (not starter) maps usually have some ppl, and they call events/champs out in chat. Its not organised that I know of, but you get most events and such easily.

Gold sellers force me into Invisible status.

From the start, Anet should have just have “muted” the goldsellers. Then just a few players would have to block and report, the rest would never see them. The goldsellers wouldnt know and just happily spam away in silence, though Anet probably should have a way to let goldsellers spam eachother, so the sellers could check that the spamming worked.
This could even reduce the accounthacks, as the sellers would need fewer accounts to spam from.
It may even worked

Sticky Targeting

The issue is that you’re clicking all over the place.

Learn to play better instead of asking the devs to adapt gw2 to your lack of skills.

Bind a key to “target nearest enemy”, that might help.

This is bs.
Targets flickers no matter what I do. Some mechanics, like if the mob stealths, make me loose target. Evading and moving around the target will sometimes make me loose it.
But even standing still, just auto-attacking and not “clicking all over the place” I still loose targets.
Nearest enemy only helps you so far, as I and mobs are moving around. Trying to tab my enemy again is sometimes almost impossible, as I target enemies behind walls, in a cave beneath me, enemies I have no idea where is (maybe next zone?), and I kill the mob before I can target it again.
Sometimes it seems that if I have targeted a mob, loose it and try to target it again, its last on a list of all the mobs in the part of whatever map Im in.

Edit: Loosing target because mechanics, as stealth is ok. Loosing target because you face the wrong way while attacking is questionable, as some attacks are hard to stop/break/turn. Still, attack is and should be evadeable, so maybe not.
Loosing target for no reason is whats bother me.

Farewell GW2

I dont understand why ppl have a problem with goodbye posts. I understand why Anet dont want them, but other players?
In RL I always tell why when Im ending a contract or an agreement, its an honest thing to do. Its decent. Stop answering the phone or not respond to mails and basically try to just disappear is not.
Of course, mailing Anet to explain why could work too, but then again, this forum IS supposed to be the link between Anet and the players, as “they read everything and listen to the community”.
Besides, if you have lots of friends in game, it is easier to write a post on a forum saying why you dont play anymore, than to talk to each and every one. I have done that a couple of times.
But maybe thats just me.

Nerfed every farming idea without fail.

Anet wants everybody to make their gold through gems. Simple. If a large part/most of the players are able to get whatever stuff they want without buying gems, this game dies.
With that point of view, Anet benefit if just some of the players are able to accumulate enough gold to never have to buy a single gem. That minority act as a massive gold sink, both in doubling/tripling tp taxes on whatever they are flipping/speculating on, but also keeping the prices as high as possible.
This is just speculating from my side, Anet is the only one who knows for sure. I just find this somewhat logical, and as long as Anet seems happy with the tp I assume its working as intended.

Apart for the obvious drama potential your idea has, if I was Anet I wouldnt allow it. Though you probably wont do anything wrong or illegal as such, Anet needs to keep an eye on a lot of logs to make sure. They need to check that it isnt some white lvl 1 item changing hands for 100 gold. Every time.
But the drama potential alone would make me very sceptical.
Though it would be cool if you someday have your own stand in Lions Arch

Agreed….my thought is Anet will feel allowing this type of “service” is not worth the effort they will have to put out to “police” it. It may work fine under their radar but when the first support tickets surfaces, they may be put in a position that requires account closure(s) to resolve for good.

Just mentioning it as a possibility.

They’ve already decided how much effort they are putting towards fighting scams: none. the most they do is tell players “We make trading player to player non-conducive because we don’t want players doing that and getting scammed (use the TP instead). If you want to get around this, then you’re on your own and we will never intervene.” Every post I’ve seen on these forums about “This guy scammed me, what can I do?” ends with “file a support ticket if you want, but nothing will come of it”, and support always gives them a copypasta of how they can’t do anything about it. The only time I’ve seen them intervene is when the player’s account is compromised/lost to a hacker, and in that case Anet resets that account to how it was a few days before.

True. Anet have stated several times that the tp is the safe and preferred way to do trades. Outside of the tp you’re on your own.
Still, a disagreement/misunderstanding between the pawnshop and a customer could easily end up in reports of verbal abuse and so on, wich is something Anet would have to deal with. Or if LA chat gets filled with whining and accusations. The “toxic QD train” comes to mind.
Obviously, a “privat” disagreement doesnt have to end up in mapchat, but I’d like to see that.
But I believe the main issue for Anet will be how to be sure this isnt a goldseller activity. I am NOT saying it is or will ever be, but how can Anet know? I assume it isnt enough for the pawner just to promise it isnt.
