Yeah, we do not have enough shinies in this game, with these new dyes, you will melt into the particle effect overkill.

The “B” stands for “Berserker” as that is the only gear and therefore playstyle you will ever need.

In PvE, stealth is overrated by a mile.
Standing in the frontline, dishing out damage and being capable to take twice as much damage as a thief (AoE and that kind, where your stealth is useless as kitten) is not.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Warriors in PvE are for sure the class to go.
You could argue that they lack clones or stealth or pets maybe to put some “-” in there. ^^
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
If you are a beginner and like PvE, roll a warrior.
If you are an experienced player and like PvE, roll a warrior.
Warrior is so strong, that it makes little sense to play anything else, unless you do not like the playstyle. Superior damage, superior survivability, very little skill management for great results.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Currency overkill is always a sign of little organization in the DEV department. Some games get fixed at one point, when the amount of currencies reaches ridiculous numbers.
LotRO had the same problem. Then they added a wallet and then they just simplified the currencies.
GW2 already introduced the wallet, but there are way more currencies in a game this young than needed. It is an artificial gating to limit your options. Like every dungeon has its own currency. The currency is so limited that after a point, it becomes worthless.
GW2 will have a huge graveyard of currencies, if they keep up the inflation with new coins for this and that. Karma was a great idea, one currency for most things, but they messed that up badly.
I hope the DEVs will reach a point when they give us a few currencies with some value, instead of a lot just for the sake of it.

Swaping out the clones/phantasms as a mesmer is sort of difficult though.
The “pet” system has some problems in regards to big events for sure.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I have no idea, but how about making turrets for engineers and clones/phantasms for mesmers indestructible too.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Saw a thief running around with two legendary daggers, looked pretty cool… ^^
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I have opend some chests with the keys from leveling a char and a random key drop (my second one in a year).
I got one scrap, now that thing just takes up inventory space, to get 10 of them would require ridiculous amounts of keys…

This topic is still going? The answer is simple:
ANet considers fun, what makes the most people spend money on their online shop.
This includes players logging in, playing hours and all the stuff, but only the result of feedback from real money transactions will be relfecting, if players want to play this game.
So ANet considers an implementation to be fun or not in the amount of money they earnt with it.
They are a business after all. The ca$h $hop is their top priority, because if people aren’t buying the virtual-not-needed-to-play-the-game items. they’ll be going the way of Warhammer and City of Heroes.
True, and there was no judgement in my post. They have to measure fun that way as a business.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Which part of the playerbase you think was asking for new rewards?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
That is what you think, but hey, everyone thinks, and the others are always wrong.
It would have been enough for the hardcore players to seperate themselves from the casuals, that is all that was needed.
Simple and basic human psychology.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
But that doesn’t matter, it still makes this gear tier better. Therefore there is a motivation to get it.
Simply as that.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
No, you only see progress as a raise in stats, your view is fairly narrow.
And there is even a raise in a stat, agony resistance, and you still don’t see progression?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
You would have agony progress, you would have tier level progress? I don’t see your point.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
TL;DR: You’re not reading anything I’m typing, or have no counter-point.
Nah, you can just not give a reasonable point for why ascended gear needed better stats in game.
It helps noone anyway, maybe it is trivializing the content, and who wants that?Reasonable point for why it needed higher stats: power is the largest player motivator in video games.
“Why the hell would I grind for something that gives literally 0 benefit?” – majority of MMO players
versus
“OH SNAP, THAT THING GIVES +10 OVER MY CURRENT GEAR? MUST HAVE BIS.” -the same MMO players.
People did it for the looks of legendaries, people would have done it for the agony stat and slot. That would have been more than enough.
Your better stat argument is futile in this matter. Otherwise legendaries would never have been popular in the first place…

Why would people argue that there is no VP if we have VP?
We had VP before ascended items, but it was easy to go through all levels of VP and even the casuals had the highest tier.
Now we have a harder tier of VP that is more difficult to get. How can anyone deny that?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Just make ascended gear acquireable through the same methods as exotics. No time gating etc. Just at a slighlty higher cost. This way people can basically play the way they want. It is just that simple. At least to me it is.
No. “ascended gear is to be a bridge between exotic and Legendary”
How about there was no bridge stats wise between exotic and legendary gear. If it is just a time bridge, make them all the same stats again.
. It’s quite obvious that it wasn’t addressing a time to acquire gap.
How is it not obvious that that is exactly what they were addressing?
Addressing what? That people still got their legendaries? And paid ridiculous amounts of gold and gems just for the look? Nothing was wrong with that.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
the same people always complaining .
You got me wrong, exotics had the same stats as legendaries before ascended items. If you like stats, they still would be on the weapon.
People got their legendaries before ascended weapons, people like the skins, stats are not necessary.

Scarlet is such a waste of a supermind character in a game that does not need one.
Everyone wants to fight dragons, and not a girl on dynamite. The LS is comedical content at best. Nothing matters, Queen Jennah or any of the childish members of Destiny’s Edge won’t make a difference.
They act like headless chickens, even though we managed to kill a kitten elder dragon.
Sometimes I think the elder dragons are right to erase this stupidity.

Oh, thanks! ^^
Glad people like it. The nature of this guide is obviously, that there are more people just checking for information than leaving a comment.
The old threat had a ratio of 150 comments to 121363 views. And there was way more editing. This guide now simply is an essence, and there is very little discussion going on, as things have been discussed before.
Btw, people can find the leveling guide over here:
So I am not too worried about promoting the guide to the frontpage much.

Anyway, saying goodbye to this pointless, selfish, killjoy thread. And for those who enjoy Tequatl as much as I do…..see you in Sparkfly!!!
Honestly, you say no to scaling, tuning it down, and tell 99% of the playerbase that they should live with the fact, that they shouldn’t do a dragon encounter anymore. That this is what the 1% of raiders want and that nothing should change but the other encounters should become the same.
And then you tell these 99% that they are selfish and that this is a killjoy threat? People should listen to themselves sometimes.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I think there might be more pressing challenges that the teams at ANet have to solve than just some cosmetic gear, they cannot make any profit with.
It will be implemented as soon as a fair amount of players have reached the point it is worth spending dev time on it.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Of course they will. Taking away the dragons from the casual community is like telling them to leave. This are iconic events, it is what people like to see. They have been done every day before we got any free rare loot for them.
People are angry about just Tequatl, think about the outrage if they take away all three. This would be one of the most stupid moves in MMO history ever.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Yeah, make all the three dragon bosses deserted wastelands on the main servers all together. Sounds like a good idea to take away the open world prime content from the open world.
I see the joy in game and on the forums.

Ultimately most of this discussion is moot, even the OP’s otherwise worthwhile analysis. If people subjectively like having BiS equipment, and feel the effort to acquire Ascended items is an unnecessary and unwanted grind, then they will not be happy. They will feel like ArenaNet betrayed them, that most if not all of their promises and statements regarding this issue made in the past were lies. And they will feel especially violated if they played GW1 where the philosophy was very different and balanced.
Any comparison between Exotic and Ascended gear misses the point.
This guy hits the nail on the head right here.

Good you realized it. People feel betrayed. It is absolutely unimportant what you think people should think. You can tell them that 10% more damage is not much (ask your boss for 10% more money and tell him, it is not much and it doesn’t matter…), but for them it is more then just a cosmetical change.
People will feel betrayed by statements of the past.
The Manifesto and the interviews are haunting ANet, and it will not stop.

I kid you not, I once solo’d the old Tequatl. Took me over an hour, but I sort of enjoyed it more than Tequatl nowadays.

I am pretty convinced, that you can kill the Karka queen with 20 players.
That’s all I am asking for for Tequatl.

Epic areas that have less pew pew and more indiana jones.
Unfortunately they have chosen to make them more like Indiana Jones 4…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The Karka Queen is killed daily on my server. Tequatl is not.
Ms. Karka is a fair open world encounter where everyone can jump in and win on my own server. Tequatl for some reason is not.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The TTS will be futile as soon as the encounter is fixed.
All I see is the people participating in TTS in fear of losing their only reason to exist and argue against fixing the encounter, sorry.
As said before, one-trick-pony guilds exist for a failure in the system, something that can only work because they exist.
Tequatl is a failure in the system. It is an encounter so deserted, that you need to gather people from all servers of a region to do it on overflow.
It can not be intended, to destroy your own content, ANet knows that. TTS will be robbed it’s only purpose to exist, and people will leave as there is no necessity for a band-aid guild, as soon as we get a workable Tequatl.
I have faith in ANet, I even have enough faith to check the patch notes next tuesday and see some first steps into the right direction.

The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The encounter won’t get harder, the difficulty stays about the same, no matter how many people are there. That is proper scaling. It won’t be downscaled or upscaled in difficulty. The difficulty stays the same, the boss just adapts to the amount of players.
That is proper scaling. It doesn’t matter if you start out with 20 people and in the end there are 100 running around, the odds to beat the encounter are the same at any point.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
It is the challenge for ANet to provide proper scaling for Tequatl, before they redo the other world bosses.
Without scaling, every single redone encounter might become a deserted event on most servers, like it is right now with Tequatl.
They have it right before their eyes. We need more stuff to do in the open world, not less…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Build one: Deceptive Evasion in a phantasm build instead of taking Phantasmal Strength?
Build two: Deceptive Evasion in a phantasm build, but no Phantasmal Fury?
Just to point out the biggest flaws in them.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Don’t? These builds are very nice for dungeons and fractal (any lvl), and they shine when you play in an organised group.
Hide, before colesy sees this.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
With proper scaling, the encouter will at any time be as difficult for 20, 50, 100 or 150 people, and it will adjust to the amount of people at any time.
If your argument is, that ANet fails at scaling, we need better scaling.
And if you think ANet is satisfied with how few times Tequatl is done, why is the Boss Week back after such a short time in the dailies?
Noone goes there… The people who made the encounter are sad and play their trap card. But still noone goes there. Count the succesfull kills a day, and multiply them by 100. That’s how many people do the encounter successfully. And this is only true if they are always different ones.
The encounter needs to be scaled. Or it will be forgotten. All the dev time got wasted otherwise.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
(edited by Kaiyanwan.8521)
No don’t… ^^
What are those builds, they make no sense for open world or in dungeons…
You should choose between a shatter build (better for open world exploration in my opinion) and a proper phantasm build with reflects (better for dungeoneering), not something in between.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
(edited by Kaiyanwan.8521)
So much text for the simple reason that you do not understand the word “scaling”?
With proper scaling, the content will be as hard for 20 people as it is for 100 people right now. And it will be as difficult for 100 people like it is right now for 100 people.
Scaling.

Ascended weapons that are a joke to just grind out without doing anything real […]
Yes he does have a chance to drop something, but in that time it takes you to get a Sunless weapon, you will likely have farmed out multiple Ascended weapons via the mindless way.
Thank you for pointing out the mindless grind. Another topic but sort of relevant.
You want hard content, go dungeoneering. Open world content will get adjusted. What is the problem if the encounter gets scaled for 20 people. You can still do it with 100 with the same difficulty as it is right now.
If you think you need 100 people to have challenging encounters, than why do other games have 25 people raids as most challenging encounters?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium

They will change the PvE meta, when everyone has ascended zerker gear.
This will keep the gear farming alive and will give the hardcore people something to do… ^^

This thread is a testament to the laziness and entitlement of MMO players:
Read through it all. Its a list of everything players think they shouldn’t have to do. meanwhile theres a lot of people who are doing Tequatl daily and getting the rewards and having fun doing it. Tequatl is one of the most fun events to do atm.
If it was impossible and noone was doing it…I might agree with you people. But hundreds of people are doing it daily. Many people enjoy it and think its a fun event.
You have 10+ other easy mode world bosses……..you’re losing nothing by not doing Tequatl. Anything he could drop in terms of stats can be had anywhere else. So skip it and forget about it. Those of us willing to do it will continue to do so.
Its a sad topic on an MMO forum when it’s full of crying about having to interact with others in a coordinated effort. Especially when on the same page as this topic is one about Legendaries not being "legendary’ and some things should be challenging to get and make you earn them. Well guess what? We can’t have that kind of content and this topic illustrates why. Too many people cry about having to do anything more than the absolute bare minimum for reward. So you end up with Legendaries that can be bought, Ascended weapons that are a joke to just grind out without doing anything real and temporary content that amounts to fetch and kill missions because noone will do anything beyond the absolute least they have to. Sunless skins as a reward that shows you took the time to kill Tequatl probably many times? No…can’t have that, dumb it down so everyone can have those skins and in 2 months we can all complain about lame it is there’s nothing to earn. And Kaiyanwan – tequatl doesn’t provide a source for farming Ascended. Get your facts straight. Yes he does have a chance to drop something, but in that time it takes you to get a Sunless weapon, you will likely have farmed out multiple Ascended weapons via the mindless way. Saying Tequatl is the only major source of a 10% power jump is a joke and only shows you are grasping for a reason to hate Tequatl or don’t know how Ascended weapons work.
But this MMOs was promoted for people that do not like MMOs. Yet you list all the things that a classical MMO offers and tell people lazy, when they do not want to do it.
Are you serious? Calling people lazy? For what they were told to expect? Dear heavens.
