The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Running your daily circle for ori and wood. What is the purpose of running to those nodes. Because you are on the way to somewhere?
So you are telling me I am doing it wrong if I do not spend half an hour a day running around gathering stuff instead of playing the game?
Are you serious, you can not see the grind that is right in front of your eyes?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Grinding resources is still a grind. If it is time gated, even worse.
Now you have a time gated grind, welcome to the new world (that is the old one).
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Skill > Gear.
You can play all part of the game with exotic.
ANet got burned by players acquiring exotics too quickly
“ascended gear is to be a bridge between exotic and Legendary”
This logic is flawed.
Two players with the same skill -> better gear wins.
What is your point in defending this?
And what kitten gap between exotic and legendary, that gap did not exist before they introduced ascended items… (unless you talk of a time gap in getting your hand on a legendary, which was meaningless statwise…)
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
(edited by Kaiyanwan.8521)
Look, I am working in QA.
I see bullkitten, when I get it on the table. And bullkitten always comes with a kittenload of excuses. Like ascended items.
Then you start to ask simple questions, like:
Why does ascended gear needs better stats?
Why is it now necessary to introduce grind for the best stats, when the last game worked without?
Why would you make them BoA?
Why is the best gear only meant for the top 10%?
Why would you turn your game in a game that copies all the games you tried to differ from?
And I could go on and on. Sooo many flaws. On the long run this will not even gain them profit (educated guess).
No doubt, the excuses will flow. But at one point, they will realize: “Hey, that is all just totally against what we wanted. We are doing ourselves and the customer no favour. Back to the drawing board.”
ANet Devs are just especially resilient… ^^
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
(edited by Kaiyanwan.8521)
90% of the playerbase has around 3500 achievement points or less.
50% of the playerbase has around 770 achievement points or less.
This shows two things:
1. There are probably a lot of deserted accounts.
2. That is how popular the PvE stuff is. Kitten, I am fairly deep in the 90% and play casual. People do grind less than most expect on the forums.
Ascended weapons and probably armor is something for the elitists, no but or or.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
So GW 1 was stagnant over all those years?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Looks like 90% of their people don’t, at least if you check their achievement ranking.
So they start catering to the elite, while they promised a change in the fields of MMO?
Great. Welcome back to Everquest.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Why not give rares the best stats then, and make the rarer tiers just funky colours?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
To not implement it at all.
+1
Or hand it out for free, or by doing a personal quest chain.
Imagine that, we would get some awesome award for playing a awesome quest. A reward for having fun.
Why on earth is it so hard for ANet to implement something like that?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Did you have to grind for the best gear?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
You are welcome. I think I might add the lvl 60+ phantasm trait setup for leveling to my own guide though. ^^
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
It is not to hard for most people, but an MMO is not a platformer by nature.
If you cannot manage it by yourself, try find a mesmer friend to help you (which is sort of a bad game design I know).
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Seriously, you didn’t get the sarcasm, and btw, just read the rules, you too errebi, they are posted here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/rules
As an example:
“In addition, you agree not to do any of the following: […]“Stalk” or otherwise harass another member.”
You can report them in that case.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Discussing moderation is not allowed. This thread will be closed anyway.
Trying to dodge the infraction as block is on cooldown.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
It is a good move. The mods do right in banning people criticising their game. What the kitten do those people think they are doing anyway?
There will always be collateral damage, but in the end you just silence some more potential critics. So it is better for all. Let it be a lesson for everyone.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Getting the best gear in game is an aweful grind, who cares about minis? If fluff is connected to an aweful grind, that is 100% fine. Skins, minis, whatever.
But if the best gear is only craftable and BoA, needing megatons of resources, that is a reason to question the direction. And don’t even start with possible ascended drops in boxes as an alternative way to get those items…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
No, it is the graveyard of threads that are too serious to get deleted but too provokative to stay on the main discussion, sorry… ^^
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Obviously this:
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
No, he just realized that we have all been made one-dimensional in PvE, and that there are no roles, because the system is so shallow.
If everyone is doing the same, the game gets boring, and if the game gives you no choices, it will stay that way.
Players in RPGs like playing roles, this might come as a surprise.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Armor classes have absolutely no point in this game, besides splitting up the loot, so not everything is good for you (creating an economy and a broader (even though fake) crafting system).
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The top 50% mark is so low, that you would think, most people do not play the game…
Top 80% around 2000 points? Looks a bit like the game has only 20% active players… ^^
I am still in the 90% even though I mostly stopped caring for achievement points. Even if you play casually on a regular base, you should be in the top 20%…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The whole PvE system is set on only one pillar: Damage.
You can’t play as a tank, you can only choose to have more survivability for less damage. This won’t help the group.
You can’t play as a real healer, you can heal, but most time, the damage spikes are too random and you find yourself just spamming heals (sort of a healer, but it feels stupid as kitten).
You can’t focus on CC, because most bigger mobs don’t give a kitten about CC anyway.
You can just play as DD efficiently. So this game is a one trick pony. I don’t think ANet can fix this, or even the whole melee meta for stacking boons. It is more or less what we can expect for the future too.
Buffing conditions? Now you can do damage in two different ways, yay…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
But why run anything else in PvE than zerker gear? It just makes you less efficient.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
From time to time I wish too, that there was a bit more depth than just knowing when to dodge.
I hope at one point they can break the whole DPS meta for PvE (read everyone runs zerker gear).
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
This is a mechanism to prevent farming, working as intended.
Do some other stuff to gain your xp then.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
This is a known abuse of the fractal system (in the early days, no new players could join, which was what many people are asking for, but it was bad too in case someone left or had a dc).
Report it.
Imho, if all members are from the same guild, the guild should suffer a penalty if found guilty.
All players involved in kicking some player at the last fractal (or even the third) should get bans, no excuses, if found guilty of abuse.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I am just righ now running a Necro (me) and Guardian combo for leveling. It might not be the best combo, but is a lot of fun (good aoe, good buff stacking).
Best combo is probably Guardian/Warrior… ^^
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Honestly, people just use the GS because it is their best PvE choice outside of dungeons, as it is their most efficient tool there. If people do not run dungeons frequently, they will fall back on what they know to do.
But we had this discussion before.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Gotta retry my Go Go Power Ranger build again in zergs then.
Giving up reflections on focus sounds like a mediocre choice if you are going dungeoneering though.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The new Tequatl is a nice example for bad game design. It is supposed to be an open world event, but it does work like a closed raid encounter.
You can not mix those two qualities without kittening off most of the playerbase. The result, the more or less hardcore people get their stuff, then the event becomes deserted.
Some people will be there from time to time, but thanks to its setup, the encounter becomes unbeatalbe for those. In the end, noone will ever bother with it anymore…If it’s a bad design, why is it that I’ve been able to beat him numerous times, and max out my achievements? The players who get mad are the ones who don’t organize for the fight. Make friends, join guilds, and coordinate.
Because it is an open world event, which are made for everyone. If you want to setup a group, you have to gather people and you are most likely not able to do the event on your own server. You have to join a overflow server, which will result in too few people to get the event done on the home server.
If that is not bad game design, what is it?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Next they will argue, that dungeons are the only challenging content in the game, and that it doesn’t matter what you play in open world as it is “super easy” anyway.
Which will not diminish the fact that GS is your best choice outside of dungeons.
Personally, I think the dungeons in GW2 are boring as kitten and running them over and over is a sign of desperation. But that’s just my personal impression. ^^
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The hate only exists here on the forum, and you can count the people that hate the GS with a passion on one hand. It is just so, that those people post in every thread that the GS is a bad weapon, while it is probably your best choice anywhere outside of dungeons in PvE.
Run with a zerg? GS if you want to tag anything.
Run solo in open world? GS kills stuff before you get in melee range.
Leveling? See run solo in open world.
It is a great burst weapon for shatter, as you can preload your illusions and blow them up in a very short time.
Just in dungeons, the meta is melee for boon stacking, which is fine.
So don’t mix up the hate of a few with the reality in the game.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Your phantasms won’t do much more damage as there is only one Phantasm trait for damage. The only other thing that might be sort of phantasm is your signet, which is sort of a waste though. ^^
You could at least skip Deceptive Evasion in favour of Phantasmal Fury.
At 60 you should go 10/15/0/25/0
At 65 10/20/0/25/0
Like this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQBYk4MjovcSFUdJF4m3A traitwise
You could also trait pistol instead of sword, as it is your source of phantasm damage.
Alternatively:
At 60: 10/15/0/0/25
At 65: 10/20/0/0/25
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQBYkANDs7dSFUdJF4O3A
Which I would prefer due to faster phantasms.

I would be happy with 50% efficiency on most pugs. In fact I consider that a good pug. The problem is most pugs are way less than that, around 20% if anything. And GS-camping mesmers are part of that problem.
Don’t pug, problem solved. Save yourself that trouble, that risk. Just don’t pug.
And if you pug, don’t moan or complain. It was your own decision to do so, you knew that this might happen. Leave it, if you cannot handle it, but don’t complain.

I don’t know why they don’t make two versions of the tequatl:
- Enraged
- NormalNormal could scale to enraged, accordingly to amount of player, spawn time, certain conditions to spawn, etc etc…
Enraged would give the loot table it currently have.
Normal would be a easier version of tequatl, almost a harder version from the old tequatl, and without the newer drop list.
Why? Ask yourself, why split the loot?

Anyone who is praying 100% efficiency and complaining about pugs being not efficient needs a high-five, in the face, with a chair, made of steel, twice.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
People do this on purpose, don’t they. Read one of the many dungeon threads that already exist.
This is getting out of hand…
What are you talking about? I like it when people ask questions, and everyone takes some time to answer.
It creates this friendly atmosphere, you know, the one that colesy ruined. Hes turning a once beautiful place into a horrible community full of rage that accuses others for being useless because theyre too narrow minded to respect others with a different oppinion. Hes a TROLL
He is just angry because I always call him cosley. Angry cosley is angry.

If you look for an in-depth in-depth guide on leveling, check my signature.
Traiting inspiration is sort of a waste. Go for power. At 40 you should retrait and get Deception Evasion and Sharper Images at level 40. Both traits are too good to be ignored. And if you have Deceptive Evasion, you want to shatter anyway.
Problems with phantasm while leveling: Mobs just die too fast, so phantasms are more or less active only one attack sequence. So it is better to shatter them, after that anyway.
Just my 2 copper.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Why the kitten is this not stickied yet? Time they make me a mod…
Nah, that would be a dumb idea, but seriously, sticky please.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Btw, scepter is the worst of all clone generators for leveling. In the time it takes to get out your first scepter clone, you can cast Mirror Blade and Berserker on your GS and use Mind Wrack.
So, till you get your first clone out with scepter, the mob would probably be dead already.
Try it yourself, buy a scepter and a salvage kit. Equip scepter and test it. Use salvage kit on scepter.

Try the leveling guide in my signature. It will probably work.

OK, so staff for AoE and shatter in open world it is then, thx cosley for this great advise.
I am out of here, was off-topic anyway…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
(edited by Kaiyanwan.8521)
C’mon cosley, he wrote this in this thread:
Im playing a GS Mesmer, just playing casual PvE with her. No dungeons, no PvP, WvW, Fractals etc. And no intend to do either.
Would you suggest staff and S/S?
Would you? Would this be the result of your theoretical approach?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Look, I am not the greatest numbers fetishist, but I know the fundamentals. Theory crafting is all good and nice and it has its place.
I obviously didn’t participate in yet another dungeons topic for a reason. People know my POV. Play the way you can handle it.
If you cannot play melee (if you feel it is too hard) play ranged. If you do not like playing melee, play ranged.
If you do not like having ranged people in your group, get others.
Everything else is just a total waste of time arguing. More DPS, less DPS, all futile for the average John Doe.
But giving totally wrong advise to new players just for the sake of hate for GS is not acceptatble.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I wouldn’t ignore him. He talks in theoreticals (practical application obviously differs slightly) but he’s rarely wrong.
Have you read by any chance his theoretical nonsense I posted?
And that was written like a few days ago, not in ancient times…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I’d take 10/30/0/0/30 with staff + sword/sword for general PvE actually. Staff has faster clone CDs than GS and AOE tags better, and 4x Mantra makes your shatters hit extremely hard.
Lol, this is sooo wrong on so many levels, are you trolling?
With your trait setup, staff clones will be on a 8 sec cooldown and phantasm on 14.5 sec.
With mine, GS clones are on 4.8 sec cooldown and phantasm on 12 sec.GS has AoE on attack 1 (piercing), 2 (bouncing), 3 (area) , 4 (iZerker) and 5(frontal). Good luck with your mediocre bounces on Staff 1 and Chaos Storm on 35 sec cooldown.
Honestly, we know that you hate the GS, but don’t give wrong advice to people, that will make you look really bad and uninformed.
You know, Guanglai Kangyi tends to just write stuff. No matter how wrong it is.
Ever since the thingy above from another thread, I simply ignored him for spreading all this BS…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The answer is simple: Clipping.
The games engine is bad enough in regards of clipping. Just imagine having a GS on your back and a cloak. Or two swords on your side and a cloak. Puffy shoulders, hudge gloves and all that stuff would cause clipping too. It is a nightmare to program around that stuff.
ANet takes the easy way out, saving time and money. Simply no cloaks.
