With all due respect, fellow Commander of the Pact.
With Zhaitan gone, the Risen have become mindless creatures, without aim and orientation. They will not spread, and new undead will not be risen by Zhaitan. Their numbers are now limited, and without their mastermind, these creatures are no longer a thread outside of Orr. Orr can be kept contained by a small force.
We the Pact must move now, and strike the dragons while they are still hiding. Otherwise they will gain more power and might grow impossible to be defeated.
Our time is now.
Kaiyanwan, Commander of the Pact.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The big wheel keeps on turning…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Too bad Commander of the Pact is Trehearne, everyone hates him. If you are claiming that you are Trehearne…………you’re gonna have a bad time.
Trahearne is leader of the Pact, referring to himself as “Marshal”. I am his second in command, making me a Commander.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
(edited by Kaiyanwan.8521)
To the leaders of our nations.
It has been over a year since the allied forces of the Pact have defeated Zhaitan, an elder dragon.
But, instead of moving on, the Pact has now been rotting in Fort Trinity for several monthes, short a mission, wasting supplies. Orr is no longer a place for our forces to conquer, the risen armees will diminish over time with Zhaitan gone. Orr is cleansed, others will take it.
We should mobilze the Pact, moving to the deep north or south-east, where the corruption of two elder dragons is still spreading, endangering men, women and children everywhere.
Leave the minor threats like those lousy pirates to the Seraph or any other regional force. The Pact exists to defeat dragons, and we have already waited too long to fulfill our destiny.
We must face the elder dragons, and let them feel the power of our united forces.
Sincerely
Your Commander of the Pact.

Hey, if you want you can look at my leveling build. It uses GS and Sword/Focus.
Forget about the traveler runes, that is all 80 talk, and believe me, you want a speedboost for open world.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
It is the best with exception of all others.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
You call the living story and SAB garbage, I call legendaries garbage.
I’d rather have content to play than grindy skins to pursue.
Honestly, both are garbage. The weapons are a bad grind in a grind in a grind.
The living story is the worst storytelling or even story ever in a MMO.
I wonder why we have dragons as main plot if we have to fight a cheap version of adult Tiny Tina for monthes…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Your IP build makes little sense in two points.
Crippling Dissipation only works if clones are killed, not shattered.
Illusionary Elasticity only affects one pistol skill and this one only applies confusion.
You might want to replace those two if you want to run shatter.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Collateral? xD Best use of the word possible. :P Good job @OP
Thanks. ^^ Wasn’t quite sure if people would get the whole dimension though…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Game mechanics > You
If you got to learn it the hard way, learn it the hard way.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Yeah, normally would talk about a story tree, but this is more like a story mountain. The story is not evolving, it is focusing more the closer you get to the conclusion.
It stops to be personal when Trahearne shows up and choice is not even an illusion anymore…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
They are good xp. In the end, you should just create a Sylvari and play the personal story once.
All other races have sort of placeholder stories at the beginning, the Sylvari one is obviously the main plot.
After that, take a torch and burn Trahearne.

“According to Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things, by Lafcadio Hearn, a butterfly was seen in Japan as the personification of a person’s soul; whether they be living, dying, or already dead. One Japanese superstition says that if a butterfly enters your guestroom and perches behind the bamboo screen, the person whom you most love is coming to see you. However, large numbers of butterflies are viewed as bad omens. When Taira no Masakado was secretly preparing for his famous revolt, there appeared in Kyoto so vast a swarm of butterflies that the people were frightened — thinking the apparition to be a portent of coming evil.”
Just so you know, butterflies are awesome.

1. Make a survey
2. ???
3. Profit
Do it like some other companies with F2P titels where it is:
1. Make a survey
2. Add some gems (in game currency) as reward
2. Profit
You will get more feedback than you can handle. People are greedy, free stuff is what people want. This won’t ruin your economy, if you only hand out like let’s say 100 free gems. Still it looks like worth the time for players.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium

So it would be a good idea for GW2 DEV’s to connect the events to a quest chain maybe, at least you would not miss the stuff then (maybe a bit like the Books in LotRO).
Of course you can replay them, but at least you would realize there is new content…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
My first character and main is a Norn Mesmer.
Nothing wrong with pink butterflies. And I play shatter → I got lots of them…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
But most of this stuff is just poor implementation. If you think people read the patch notes, you are overestimating the passion of most players. Most don’t even know that the forums exist.
But the point of this topic is not what has been implemented how and if it worked or not, it is about the long term planning, the concept of the game. Like I said earlier, ANet must have a business plan, an outline that will last at least for one year in what direction the development goes.
While it is wise to not share the whole thing, it is not a sign of trust or faith, to hide it all. The last two things left to be implemented from the former preview are ascended armor, that will come sooner than later, and the first real horizontal progression in regards of new skills and traits. But what is beyond that?
What is the actual Manifesto, the guideline which is forming Guild Wars 2 as we see it today and will see it in the future?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Want me to remove my post, it sort of messes up your setup… ^^
Done. So how about Asheron’s Call 2, ever played that?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
(edited by Kaiyanwan.8521)
The skins are there to seperate the ascended elite from the exotic casuals.
+1 for elitism and optical gearscore.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Went to Tequatl early this day, noone there. he just flew off after 15 minutes and noone got hurt. Dragons are no threat to anyone as long as you leave them alone.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I will make it short. People are confused about where the game is going. Many of them have been citing the Manifesto, but as we were told, the Manifesto is mostly gone (well, play the game and you will see it, if you want to).
I do not say the new way is for the better or worse, in fact, I have no idea what the vision for Guild Wars 2 right now is supposed to be. Others feel like this too, so I guess a fair amount of your playerbase wants an answer why things are happening they way they do. Are some things just collateral damage or part or a bigger plan?
Sure we are asked to give constructive feedback, but how? Refering to the old manifesto, we are outdated and wrong and it will sound like a rant. If we just give feedback on single topics, we might miss the context and even though the ideas might be good, they will fail in the grand scheme.
Most of the things that have been setup as a roadmap have been implemented, but what is the aim for the future, what is down the road in a year or two. You must have a plan, some roadmap that you can at least share the direction we are heading to.
Share some information, knowledge will at least end the wild speculations and if you can, setup a new Manifesto, so the players can refer to that.
Thank you.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I know the damage is already done with the ascended crafting materials and raising the crafting level cap, but I feel like ascended armor should be a reward from a questline.
Expand further on the background story of ascension and how it relates to fractals. This is the perfect opportunity to give what most GW1 players want to see, a return of familiar lore and possibly enemies.+1.
no ascended armour pls ANET.
you don’t make grindy games. you leave that to others.
Seriously, what game are you playing? GW2 is worse a grind than WoW was in his first year.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
(edited by Kaiyanwan.8521)
Honestly, I killed Zhaitan a year ago and what is the result. Undeads are still everywhere. Orr is still Orr. Tequatl, Zhaitan’s champion grew 100 times stronger.
The best thing would be, leave the other dragons alone. Killing them only makes things worse…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Just blow them up. Don’t be shy, if you are leveling you probably get more profit out of shatter damage anyway. Later on, you can pick a build that supports more phantasm gameplay.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Hey, you don’t really think ANet would implement something new without some ridiculous grind?
Seriously, crafting professions will simply go up to 500 and than you need endless materials to craft items that are account bound…
You hate crafting? No stuff for you. You hate farming and grinding? No stuff for you.
Maybe you’ll get a 0.0001% chance to get it out of Tequatls box though…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I’d take 10/30/0/0/30 with staff + sword/sword for general PvE actually. Staff has faster clone CDs than GS and AOE tags better, and 4x Mantra makes your shatters hit extremely hard.
Lol, this is sooo wrong on so many levels, are you trolling?
With your trait setup, staff clones will be on a 8 sec cooldown and phantasm on 14.5 sec.
With mine, GS clones are on 4.8 sec cooldown and phantasm on 12 sec.
GS has AoE on attack 1 (piercing), 2 (bouncing), 3 (area) , 4 (iZerker) and 5(frontal). Good luck with your mediocre bounces on Staff 1 and Chaos Storm on 35 sec cooldown.
Honestly, we know that you hate the GS, but don’t give wrong advice to people, that will make you look really bad and uninformed.

Honestly? Take at least the 10 points in Chaos and put them into Illusions. Get Illusionist’s Celerity if you are already this far down the road…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Run Lazy Kai, it is in my signature. Bulletproof for open world PvE.
You are welcome.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The reality on my server:
Tequatl is about to start, go there. The area is full with players, looks good. The fight starts, about 10 people at Tequatl and most turrets down. About 100 blue skulls on the map as everyone here is afk. Futile try to fight the dragon with a hand full of people.
Five minutes before end, rezzing afk players so that they get killed, rinse, repeat, at least they will pay a bit for the annoyance they cause to everyone else.
This is flawed, fix it pls…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
(edited by Kaiyanwan.8521)
ANet expects all PvE players to craft Berserker gear if they want to get ascended armor.
No need for anything else right now anyways. So alt least for PvE, variety is not a problem.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
If you want to just click click and barely move or dodge, then you may have to choose one of the.. dare I say it.. easier classes.
Hey, I am there with you on the topic, but I wouldn’t call Mesmer one of the easier professions, at least not compared to a warrior, a ranger or a guardian (and a glass cannon guardian can be a fair challenge),
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
You had this manifesto you might have forgotten.
Now we have vertical progression and I don’t see any horizontal progression at all (new skills, traits, whatever, all just a promise for the future after one year).
Now we have grinds on every corner, be it dailies and monthlies (which before laures have been optional but now will give you the best gear) or farming for crafting materials (seeing the ridiculous amount of stuff you need for ascended items). Grinding dungeons for gold or whatever, grinding achievements, the game and therefore the Devs don’t even try to hide it anymore.
We have to press one, one and one again, as auto attack still has the most damage potential. Play as you want as long as you are running around in Berzerker in PvE or you are not needed in a group.
I could go on, but you probably see the picture. People getting mad over things you made them expect is just a logical reaction.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
They’d have to implement a new mechanic. I do not know of a skill like that existing in the game.
But I might be wrong, do turrets prefer the selected target as engineer, or is it random?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
They are to be cast on a single target. Ground targetging would be AoE targeting.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
October 15th…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
What I really want in general, is a range indicator on my cursor (be it a number or a colour), so I can just simply use fast ground targeting… That’s for all classes not just mesmers.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
It brings challenge in regards of things not being 100% predictable. It brings a player that wants to play a class the way he imagined it, having his share of joy. It will break the idea of being 100% effective is equal to having 100% fun for everyone.
Most classes can get around the same sustained dps in a group if traited for it. But most dungeons don’t need the amount of dps to kill let’s say lupi in 13 sec.
If you see the game as a speed challenge, a race, than you might have to ask yourself the question why should I do anything but x or y.
If you see the game at what it is, a game, you won’t.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
(edited by Kaiyanwan.8521)
Ground targeting iWarden as an idea is probably as old as this forum. Won’t happen though, would not be in line with how phantasms are meant to work.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Yeah, at least in crowded PvE places it is really difficult to see your phantasms (compared to your clones). Just three pink dots won’t tell me what they are (if I didn’t pay attention) or where. ^^
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I am thinking about writing a leveling guide and an open world build selection similar to my mesmer one. But I am not sure if there exists something like that I might have missed.
Anyway, I will wait till after the balance patch if I decide to do so.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Dyes are char bound. Very alt-unfriendly.
And try to keep more than one character up to date with all the new ascended stuff, good luck (and yeah, ascended armor is coming in a week)…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Back in the days, the only way to level quickly in Asheron’s Call 2 was to actually zerg stuff for hours. People like the easy idea of simply grouping up and killing stuff without any skills involved. Can’t blame them. As long as there is reward, it makes sort of sense (not for me though).
This is nothing new to GW2.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I speak Japanese fluently, I can check that for you.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Hey Chaos, even if I am low priority, I will take my chances.
My Testbuild Alpha: Random Pain gives me some unsatisfying results in PvE as to mobs slow attackspeed. Maybe you want to try it in other aspects of the game, I have no time for (PvP) with some adaption to condition removal.
Feel free to play around a bit with the Close Combatant build, never had feedback on that one either…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The precursor building (and corresponding additional legendary items) is the one highest at risk to not make it this year.
No problems Mister Colin Johanson!
So… my return to the game is at highest risk to not happen this year! ;D
Made me smile, well done.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Some people actually enjoy leveling. Even though I used a scroll and crafting for my last character (just one 400 though).
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
So the whole build is around getting some boons and share them whenever possible?
If you want to support people with boons, a guardian might be the better choice.
Your damage is abyssmal with this setup, no matter what you do. No crit, no condition dmg, no phantasm traits, no shatter traits, no weapon traits. I just don’t see the point of a dmg soaking sponge in PvE, that hits like a wet noodle, not even as support.
So my tip is, if you want to be a might sharing bot, forget the other boons, and make a build that involves supporting the group with you actually doing damage. And get some gear that has power/precision/crit or, if you want to go with scepter and staff (torch seriously is a no-go in PvE), than something with power/cond.dmg.
