Well Blade&Soul is the most succesful MMO this year for sure. Breaking all records in a matter of weeks. But most people just don’t look too far to the East, even though that is no excuse to fail to see the giant at the horizon.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Just do all the Living Story content they added the last 12 monthes. They added content every two weeks. Just imagine how much stuff that is. This should entertain you for a fairly long time.
.

Oh, wait…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The world is not dynamic any more since is started out at release. The LS does not know event chains, only success or failure. That’s partly why it is so boring: It is 100% predictable.
Effort is necessary for event chains, but with the tight schedule on the LS, being creative on events just seems to be impossible. Makes me a sad panda. :/
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Signet of the ether is by far the best heal in pve now. Since proper play in pve means that you really should almost never need to heal, you can make full use of the active ability, recharging your phantasms for maximum uptime and a full 3 damaging phantasms from the beginning of a fight.
This.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
@Rigel: I don’t think you even understood what the build was meant for…did you even read past the title? Hah.
Oh, I read the post but given I play WvW and not lalaland PvE, I simply stated what I saw as truth in WvW: If you want a real mesmerizing army, get 4-5 mesmer together and watch them wreck havoc.
WvW is even worse of a lalaland than PvE.
If you want to be efficient, follow the blue marker on the map and zerg everything to the ground. That’s to what it narrows down to. It is so easy and boring, that I can hardly stand it for longer than an hour.
Now you gonna tell me things about small groups and roaming, but hey, that is as rewarding as soloing champions in PvE.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Too many flaws. Too many misconceptions. If this is how you play shatter in PvE, you actually waste a lot of the potential it offers.
I am too tired and it is too late to write about all the flaws, but right now, 10/20/0/25/15 is sooo far superior to whatever shatter build can offer, that it would be a waste of time anyways.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Hmm, your phantasms will be fairly weak (which is pretty much the PvE meta right now with 10/20/0/25/15 or 0/30/0/25/15) and shatter is not really an option either.
With soldier gear things will just not die fast enough for this to be reasonable build, at least imho. I for one would not try to craft a build around signets right now. There are simply better skills for open world to choose (blink, decoy, veil, feedback even).
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Right now, it is not logging in.
Every single day.
For some reason the game makes me not want to play it. I don’t even know why…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Minor update to the leveling guide to include the patch changes.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The only thing I read out of this is:
“We want to do this content right, we cannot do that with a bi-weekly schedule. So this time, we take the time we need.
Afterwards, we will go back to the bi-weekly schedule, and the content will be buggy and fail again.”
Just get rid of the bi-weekly schedule already. Give us updates, when they are ready.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Without the use of any runes:
A full berserker exotic set gives [+999 pow, +695 pre, +62% crit]
A full berserker ascended set with all +5 pow in all infusion slots gives [1157 pow, 745 pre, 75% crit]A full soldier exotic set gives [999 pow, 695 tog, 695 vit]
A full soldier ascended set with full +5 pow in all infusion slots gives [1157 pow, 745 tog, +745 vit]So no, not a lot of difference. You don’t have to get them. It’s optional.
Not sure if /sarcasm.
I don’t know, it is close to 2.5% more critical chance and 13% more critical damage.
And saying that 158 extra power is not much is sort of brave.
Probably /sarcasm though.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Just let us stomp in DS in PvE.
I really don’t care for PvP balance and stuff. But with all that downed mobs in PvE lately, not being able to stomp is a major annoyance.
In fact, I changed my build to be not DS dependend at all because of that, which I find kind of sad.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
He would have a point, IF the game was based on horizontal progression. In such a game, if looks are the only “reward”, having all looks only available through the shop would be sort of P2W.
Luckily, GW2 is all about the grind for BiS items in a very vertical progression. Therefore, the whole argument of the OP is invalid.
Hail to the ascended grind, it saved us from grinding just for the looks. Can’t wait to tell my wife and kid to gtfo, so I have enough time to grind ascended armor.
Thank you vertical progression! At least I do not have to ask myself, what fun things I could do in GW2 anymore…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
To be honest, I try to avoid giving presents that might be causing side effects.
MMOs are addictive by nature and with an item shop, there is the possibility that the person you give it for free will spend way more money as intended on the game.
I do not want to be the reason for an addiction of a friend, for the loss of huge amount of time or money.
But that’s just my 2c.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Did not even try it yet.
More random fractals? I will have to go through stuff over a year old to maybe see the new stuff? More RNG (fractal RNG so to say) just to see the new content?
More Scarlet? I will just take a break for this update. The last time I did so, I didn’t come back for about half a year though…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
No, it is just a couple of people. The majority doesn’t use the forums, and the majority on the people on the forum doesn’t really seem to be on an anti-Scarlet crusade either.
They had the story ideas written before the voting was done, they even confirmed that.
What makes you think she would have been in the Abaddon Fractal if that one have won?
Maybe it just worked in their favor that they had the chance to use the Reactor Fractal in order to explain more of Scarlets backstory?
Do you have turned off your ingame chat? People hate Scarlet, but not in the way they hate an evil villain, more like some rotten shrimp in their kittentail.
Every single update, the chat is full with people complaining about the laughable villain that Scarlet is.
Oh look it is the hyperactive salad again.
Most people who actually care about the LS do not like her.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Every time I meet her lately, she seems to be a friend, as I cannot attack her.
So she must be a good character. I will try to put her on my friendlist.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
This build is random.
It is like there is a random build generator and this build was a product of it.
Why would you do this?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Give us a secondary profession for PvE. Then let us mix the weapons we can use and the weapon skills.
The game would gain over 9000% more variation!
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Legendaries – why on earth can you sell them on the trading post?
Why shouldn’t you ?
You put the time and effort into it, why shouldn’t you be able to sell it for a gold injection into your account as a monetary value of the time and effort spent?
So what is the logic behind account bound ascended weapons if crafted? Why are those not tradeable?
And yes I know, the logic behind that is to force players to grind for BiS items ond not just buy them.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
1. Living Story: It feels like an after-thought, it plays like an after-thought. It feels not consistent, giving very little motivation or curiousity about what’s going on. The different alliences are failures and Scarlet is the best villain only on opposite day.
2. The Zerg™: Creating stampedes that kill every challenge as part of the Living World makes the new content even worse. The Zerg™ is the one most horrible thing that could happen to GW2. It sucks any bit of fun out of the content. Unfortunately most new content is involving the Zerg™, and it kills the fun for new starters in Queensdale.
3. Ascended Gear: This will haunt the DEV’s forever. ANet has lost a lot of its credit for breaking the trust of many of its customers.
4. The Waypoint System: Way too many waypoints make the world feel tiny. It kills immersion.
5. The Currencies: A mistake made by many MMO’s over time. But GW2, after one year has so many currencies that it is getting ridiculous. Every event brings some new ones too. Short-sighted and bad at the same time, ANet creates inflation at so many different spots, that it gets impossible to control the side effects.

Step 2: Read the guide.
Step 3: Profit!
I will have to adapt it for the december trait changes later on, but for now, it will work.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The only thing legendary about legendary weapons is the amount of money or grind they need to be completed.
200g is just not enough anyway. Play the game, I would avoid the mystical toilet. You might just get nothing at all. Setting your hope in RNG might cause you to finally quit the game otherwise.
Good luck on your journey.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Everything that is born or created starts dying from the very first moment of existence, as it gets closer to its unevitable end.
Therefore, GW2 is dying. Just very slowly so to say.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The problem is the following:
In a game that was advertised as not item centric, everything is about farming items or gold to buy items.
In fact, getting rid of all items would free people. But I do not think that most players in Guild Wars 2 would be ready for this. The carrot, it has to be hunted.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Although, there was a helicopter, in beta I think? I wasn’t actually there.
It is still in the game.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Have fun hitting this toe, causing an infection he dies on…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
His name is Bubbles. Maybe ANet will add some letters so it sounds more dragon-style.
How about:
BUrzBuBoLiES
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I do not have enough characters for all the wings anyway. Leveled a Necro so I can actually use the Tequatl wings on a character where they fit.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Celestial for life <3
And tbh the only upcoming competition is Wildstar and it’s a sub/box/cash shop game, it may not appeal that much.
The Elder Scrolls Online….
Watching the videos, I am not sure if TESO is what I hoped for.
But it is first person, so I can live with the clunky combat.
I tell you something, a proper first person view in GW2 would be nice. It would solve jumping puzzles and immersion a bit. And then they should just burn all ascended gear in a big fire.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
It stands for the lie that this game is about a war against elder dragons. A concept abandoned since LS was introduced.
If you shuffle the letters of SCARLET around, you get:
TRACLES
Close enough to dragon for my taste.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
It’s a swan.
On fire.
Swimming in milk.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I want those two pistol phantasms with one cast, that kill 2 mobs first and then can be shattered on the third.
Seriously!
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Step 1: Stop trying to make GW2 some eSports, just get over it.
Step 2: Stop balancing everything around tPvP and ruining PvE and Wv3
Step 3: Profit! One of the few things you’ve said I actually agree with. lol
I think it is probably because we both like PvE more than PvP. My other statements are obviously nothing personal, perhaps the game has grown out of what I expected it to be, perhaps I did.
Not every game is made for everyone (but hey, I will still post my opinion). ^^
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Of all things, the story is the biggest let-down of GW2. Not just the Living Story, which is as entertaining as watching an ice cube melt, but the personal story too.
“This is my story!” And with my story, I mean the first few missions, before everyone becomes the pet of Trahearne.
But hey, I am sure, Scarlet is corrupted by Mordremoth. And one day, after countless more filler releases, whoever is left will see another dragon that will just be ignored.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
All the work, blood, sweat and tears to be where he wanted to be at 80, just goes to put if they increase to level cap.
You should have asked him, if he played a game.
Work? Blood? Sweat? Tears? Seriously? Sometimes I secretly hope for a level cap raise just for ANet having a chance to finally do horizontal progression right by neutralizing the playfield.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Ask Rangers what they think of the “hitting harder with a 2h weapon” when they use their GS.
The damage numbers on the weapon itself simply mean nothing at all without the context of skills.
2h weapons should have 2 slots.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
It is the old “it is bad in other games so it is OK to be bad in this game too”.
Zerg™ is the new bad, that GW2 sees at its own thing.
So we have a bad raid, for a hand full of people of all servers combined, a dungeon path that is not rewarding and as frequented as a butcher in a vegan community and the Zerg™, that is as braindead as Scarlet’s plans (does she have a plan at all or is she a bad copy of the Joker).
All together is for some reason acceptable? I think every single aspect is a crime in regards of game design. By the powers combined, it is just terribad.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
(edited by Kaiyanwan.8521)
The direction is where the Zerg™ runs at.
That is what you do at 80.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Let’s see, Tequatl was wasted effort, he is dead, even for a undead. Most of the tower will probably be gone in a few weeks and TA Aetherpath has as many fans as players that like Scarlet as a villain.
All that effort, wasted. Who would think that is a good excuse? We have done bad, but at least we spent a lot of time doing so!
And I know Vayne, you love it all. But some of the players are just used to more quality.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The question is, why can we play as a healer but not as a tank?
I love tanking, but no matter what you do in this game, if you want to tank, you are lost.
Other games have mechanics like:
- threat management (taunts)
- physical blocking of mobs (they can not walk through you)
- aggro as a mechanic in general
You cannot tank, because there is no way to control the mob as you would need to. I love the mechanic that blocks the mob, as it can not walk through player characters (like maybe AoC), it feels realistic. This way, aggro of the mob can be as random as it is, but you can force the mob to attack you.
But no, we have a unholy duality of DD and not needed healers. The evolution of MMOs I say.

They wasted way too much playfields for level-up zones. They should have made leveling faster and at least half the zones level 80. Without the kitten scaling, all zones could have been made challenging and not the mess, that scaling gives us now.
They could have these “endgame” zones to give the best rewards.
But now, the new players in Queensdale are run over by the Zerg™, killing every challenge there.
Honestly, I have a hard time to somehow see a way how to solve what this game has become…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
(edited by Kaiyanwan.8521)
They have means at their disposal to encourage us to play in whatever zones we want. I’ve detailed a few suggestions in the Collab Dev thread. They can build on that fundamental idea.
It CAN be done.
Too late, the damage to the game has been done. Too many new toys on the horizon, “Zerg or Die” let many players choose the latter….
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The life is where the Zerg is. The Zerg is at the current LS zone, Queensdale and Frostgorge. That is what the games living world has shrinked down to.
If you are lucky, you can find some other players in Orr, but outside of these zones, even meeting an other player is sort of a rare thing, and finding someone to do group events with is fairly futile.
Walking around the desolated maps with all the contested WPs and dead guards at overrun points, it looks like the dragons have already won.
Meanwhile, in a totally safe zone, Queensdale, heroes unite to defeat weaksauce champions for the best available loot and riches.
This game has some serious flaws.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Vayne, the personal story was a waste of Dev money. They stopped developing it for a reason.
There will be no more personal story they said. The Living Story is the replacement and it is the same for every single player. And it is beyond bad, which is a different story though.
The personal story was a mistake, no more development time goes in that. But I think I explained that before.
For every new race they introduce, they have to create a kittenload of quests for the first 30 levels, where people blow through anyways and do not care much if a random boring story is about this or that random boring event.
That is why we have not yet seen any new race. The personal story is just too little profit for the time invested. If you want a real story, play a single player rpg (at least that is what ANet’s telling me with the LS)…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Yeah, it was so obvious. It will be more of a suprise, if she actually does not get corrupted…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Because they had the experience from GW1.
They knew it would be easier to catch players with PvE content than with mostly PvP content.
But in the end, they planned this as a PvP game, WvW as compromise. How would you explain the lack of any idea what to do with PvE after the Zhaitan arc. How would you explain the orientationless introduction of the Living Story.
There was no plan for PvE for after release. Because they expected more people to switch to PvP until they would introduce an expasion some year later. This did not work, players left.
